Naxa NX-675 Detachable Stereo AM/FM Radio MP3/CD Player With ID3 Text Functio...

Naxa NX-675 Detachable Stereo AM/FM Radio MP3/CD Player With ID3 Text Functio...Installed mine--works as designed. It's the design I have issues with

1.) From USB or memory card, this radio can play thousands of MP3s. But it doesn't shuffle!

2.) It also fails to recognize folders. Put 15 albums on a USB drive, and there's no way to get to album 7 (unless you happen to remember that album 7 starts at the 67th song and you skip to that song)

3.) There are no AM or FM presets. All of your tuning will be manual.

4.) My last radio, a JVC, had a wiring harness that could connect to my car's wiring harness. Two harnesses plug into each other, no stripping or soldering. Not so here--you'll be stripping wires and connecting them if you want to install

5.) The FM antenna plug was on the other side of the radio than other aftermarkets I've bought (i.e., the plug is on the right hand side of the Naxa when you're looking at it from the rear). No big deal, just had to buy an FM antenna extension cord, but be aware of that.

This was a bargain unit which did exactly what it advertised, but it does not have the features I've come to take for granted on car radios in general.

Etón American Red Cross ARCFR600R Solarlink Digital AM/FM/SW/NOAA S.A.M.E. Weather Radio with Flash

Etón American Red Cross ARCFR600R Solarlink Digital AM/FM/SW/NOAA S.A.M.E. Weather Radio with Flashlight, Siren, Solar and CellPhone Charger
  • Digital tuner with AM (520-1700 KHz), FM (88-108 MHz), Shortwave (5800-12200 KHz), WB, and RBS display
  • NOAA weather with alert and S.A.M.E. Technology (location-based weather alerts)
  • Digital clock function: 12-hour clock with alarm function, and snooze
  • Emergency siren/flashing beacon
  • Powered via hand crank, 3 AA batteries (not included), AC via USB adapter (not included), or solar power

Pros:

Nice features great for camping. While outdoors in sunny weather can charge the ni-mh battery pack with solar while listening. You can also charge with a USB cable via your computer (you don't need to buy the AC adaptor).

Nice sound on the FM and AM bands short wave nice option for those really remote areas (but is there really anything on SW to listen too?). Digital tuning a real plus I never could tune a station properly with analog dials

This has a 'true' hand crank generator. Yes you can charge your cell phone or anything that charges via USB cable (i.e things you plug it into your computer to charge). Good only for emergency charging (too much cranking to fully charge a cell phone) but this is a real crank generator charger, unlike some other products I have purchased.

Cons:

Battery hog, (good thing you can recharge)

It is more rugged than most radios, but this is not really waterproof don't leave it out in the rain

Expensive in the end you get a mono radio, sure you get a crank generator but this thing 'aint cheep.

Solor only works in bright direct sunlight (no clouds).

Manual what manual?

Flashlight ok but SOS LED flasher and siren are worthless. Those are just marketing items to get you to buy the radio.

Weather alert -NOAA SAME code descrimiter is buggy and weather alerts go off (when my other SAME radio does not) randomly. Eton custom service don't know how to fix this issue, and I've even had replacement radios sent. If you buy this radio for NOAA alerts using S.A.M.E. this is a big problem. I did and a big reason why I am rating this radio low. For $80 a radio should work properly. IF you don't care about S.A.M.E. alerts, then this won't be an issue for you. For me I like to have an emergency radio SAME turned on all the time in case there is a emergency/storm etc that I need to know about. I don't care to hear about storms that are in other areas and that is what SAME does, is only give give you alers in your area.

UPDATE (April 2010) I've had this radio for about a year now, and while it is still a battery hog and I can't use it for my NOAA weather alerts (as it gives false alerts all the time), but I do like this radio. I'm glad I bought it, it's my main radio when we go camping, or I'm working outside but still think it's overpriced.

Bought this multi-use emergency radio for use during power outages and other emergencies. When I received the radio (loved the case and knobs) I cranked the generator for about 1-2 minutes and gave it a try. Volume was very good and dialing in the stations was quick and easy. I set all defaults then GONE battery died. I then cranked the generator for over 5 minutes and again set things up and played with everything for about 3 minutes and the battery died again. I then added 3 AA Energizer batteries, cranked the generator again for 3-5 minutes. I set the switch to the generator mode for the evening and set the alert system to monitor for a single county. In the morning, the unit was dead again and not only the built in battery was dead, the 3 new AA batteries were also dead. As a final test, I took the unit outside and placed the solar panel in direct sunlight. (even moved it during the day to track the sun). I turned it off that evening and did the same the next day. When I turned the unit on the FM radio it died in less than 30 minutes.

NOW, here is the biggie and I would caution anyone thinking about buying this product. I emailed Eton Customer service.

QUOTE -

Thanks for the email Mr. J. I need to know if you were trying to charge it through a window. The solar charger only charges with the radio in direct sunlight, not through a window or in shade, with the power selector switch in the solar position while charging.

Cranking for 90 seconds should allow the radio to play for about 5 minutes, at low volume.

The FR600 is a digital receiver with NOAA and S.A.M.E. technology. It is therefore harder on batteries than other radios.

When you're using AA batteries and have the radio in the ALERT position, the radio is still on, monitoring for alerts. We suggest that you use an AC adapter if you're using the ALERT position. An AC adapter can be purchased for $9.95+shipping by calling 1-800-793-6542.

END QUOTE

I answered their questions but IF USING THIS RADIO IN EMERGENCY WHEN NO POWER IS AVAILABLE Wouldn't that make the AC power adapter kind of usless????

Finally Quote from Eton CSR I agree Mr. J, something just doesn't seem correct. Your return authorization number is #####. We'll evaluate your unit and repair or replace it, at our discretion. Our process takes 4 to 6 weeks, or sooner. ENDQUOTE

This is a review of the Etón American Red Cross ARCFR600R Solarlink Digital AM/FM/SW/NOAA S.A.M.E. Weather Radio with Flashlight, Siren, Solar and Cell Phone Charger in Red.

My interest is usually in survival products, particularly in coolers and flashlights. In this case, I was looking for a emergency weather radio that had a NOAA feature and could be powered through various means. This product appeared to meet everything I could ask for in an emergency radio.

I actually just received the product yesterday and spent the entire evening trying out every feature at least two to three times. I did not bother reading the manual as I wanted to see how intuitive this radio is and if I could figure out how to use the features easily. Like a previous review noted, once you figure it out, it is easy to set up presets, time, and date. The display lights up with a bright, even, white backlit display. The only complaint I would have is about the backlight not staying on very long. But I understand that this helps conserve battery power.

From the appearance, this radio appears to be sturdy, having a rubberized covering that appears to be sealed well. The radio has some heft as well, and you can see deep-set screws along the body, that holds the radio together snug. The rest of the radio is made of plastic, including the knobs of the dials, which in my opinion is not a bad thing. The antenna fits in snug, which provides protection should the radio suffer from a fall. Even the solar panel is set in a little, which will protect the panel if the radio should drop. Bottom line is that Eton has taken measures to create a sturdy and practical design for this radio. I did not test this radio for water resistance due to the pricey $80 cost.

The date, clock, and digital tuner including the AM/FM, NOAA, and Short Wave features worked really well. I did not have to use the antenna much. The speaker works well and can handle the volume when it is pumped up, though the quality of sound including treble and bass is not that of my Sony ICF36 Portable Radio, which I rate as the top of speaker output for portable radios. I am not knowledgeable on S.A.M.E. system and did not know how to use that function. The siren, flashlight, and signal beacon worked fine. The solar power, crank, rechargeable battery, and regular batteries worked fine to power the radio. The radio does not come up with cell phone connections, so I was not able to test out the cell phone charger or hook up the radio to a USB port.

Overall, the Etón American Red Cross ARCFR600R Digital Radio is a comprehensive package of features for disaster/emergency situations. All of the features that I was able to test worked well. The radio has a well thought out, sturdy design. I rate this radio a 4.5 out of 5.0 score. The score could be higher if the flashlight had a brighter and efficient CREE LED and speaker could put out a little better bass sound.

I found the Eton FR 600; on sale at my local Brookstone store for less than what I could buy online anywhere (Including Amazon). If you look at the reviews for the Eton FR 600 here at Amazon, the Eton got mixed reviews, when I was looking at this item (for example) 12 people had rated it with one star... So it seems that it was nice to actually try it out in the store before I bought it at the store [sorry Amazon] and the unit I bought worked well. Reception on all bands was good: AM, FM, NOAA. It also is supposed to receive short wave but I'm not really into SW so I can't really comment on how it does with that. I really like the digital tuner with the preset memory... many emergency radios out there are analog, which means you have to search for what you want every time... so 20th century.

The other cool thing about the Eton FR600 is this new S.A.M.E. feature which allows you to enter the code for the county you live in and the NOAA alarm will only go off if severe weather is headed toward your county (instead of 3 counties away). Real nice feature if you choose to set the radio to alert you in case of approaching severe weather; not so many "false" alarms. You have to go online to get your code and it's only for counties in the U.S. and Canada as of this writing. You can also enter multiple counties for this selective SAME feature (I guess in case you have loved ones elsewhere?).

I like being able to crank this thing for about 2 minutes and listen to the radio for about 10-15 minutes; not great but doable if you HAD to hear what was going on via radio; basically just crank it when the program "goes to commercial" and you won't miss anything important. Other reviewers have mentioned problems with solar charging through a window... It is a bit tricky, especially with the short days we have this time of year but I've had success with laying it on it's side or tilting it directly at the sun (and then moving it periodically to make sure it is still facing the sun). I have no doubt this thing would be great on a sunny day at the beach. The fact that this also uses "conventional" batteries for the back up to the rechargeable batteries is also nice. Multiple power sources means that, in an emergency, at least one of them will be working for you. The light on the side of the unit is nice as an additional feature; can't have too many lights in a power outage. It seems reasonably bright, just for kicks I shut the door to the bathroom and used only this unit's light to go through the morning routine ~ sufficient for that job.

I was disappointed that it did not come with an ac adapter (because it takes one, and a mini USB power input too) but I'll probably buy one from Eton soon. Agreeing with others who have posted here, I was disappointed with the manual, one of the many shortcomings is that it says nothing about specs to use the mini USB port to charge the unit and good luck trying to get more info off of Eton's website.

I guess my advice is to give this little radio a try, run it through it's paces. If you got a quality unit keep it. If not Amazon has a great return policy. Otherwise you could always check one out at your local purveyor of radios...

U P D A T E 1 / 31 / 2011 -

I called the Eton toll free number (1-800-872-2228) and asked for technical support. After a short wait on hold I spoke with one of their tech guys, Walter Hess. I called because I had just received my Eton ac adapter and both the manual and the unit say "5V" but the adapter they sent me said "6V" and when I tried it a RED light came on the unit (when I was used to a green light when I cranked it). So Walt told me that 5 to 6 volts was acceptable and that the red light is to indicate charging via ac. Then I told him what I thought of the manual. He said that they had just updated it and he emailed me a PDF of the new manual. If you want to email Walt yourself and ask for one here is his email: whess@etoncorp.com

U P D A T E 11/ 29 / 2011 -

One other tip for everyone. The unit takes 4 AA batteries but keep the batteries in a drawer nearby, not in the unit, until you need them. The batteries seem to be used if the "dynamo" batteries get low, even if you keep the setting on "dynamo."

I hope that helps. Take care everyone.

This radio is useless it only gets one or two FM stations while standing outside in the open air and I am in NJ which is only 50 miles from NYC, the radio capital of the world... Can't get any AM stations to speak of... Manual says that hand-crank needs to be cranked for 90 seconds but that this will only provide enough power for 1-2 emergency phone calls on your cell phone.. in an emergency, when the power goes out, the cell phones probably won't be working, so that will really help! Was unable to get ANY shortwave radio transmissions. I am returning this product.

Next Play Clock Radio with iPod Dock - NP105CR
  • Clock Radio
  • Digital AM/FM Tuner
  • Additional Functions: iPod Dock
  • Features Buzzer, Dual Wake
  • Operational Modes: Convenient Snooze Button

First of all, a word for those who have the latest gen iPods...

You will not be able to charge them on this clock without some sort of adapter (which will be an extra 25 bucks or so). It is not the fault of the manufacturers, it is Apple's who in their infinite wisdom decided to change how the electrical innards work. Adapters can be purchased to remedy this, and so now I can charge my 2G iPod touch and play music at the same time. This clock has been in the market for at least 2 years. The manufacturer had no way of knowing Apple would make their product not work with the clock.

NOW that that's out of the way the clock is adorable. The speakers are very good, and it does what it's supposed to do. I have a small night stand, so this fits perfectly. With that said, I do have some gripes -

Due to the flat surface of the buttons, it is very hard to figure out what you're actually pushing when lying down in the dark next to the clock. You can not see what you're pushing unless you're looking straight at the buttons. The alarm has a tendency to get louder and continue to get louder, and there's no way to actually prevent this from happening. Also, the clock's display is bright even on the lowest setting. I have it turned away from me when I sleep.

Overall, it's a nice clock and the latter doesn't really bother me that much (and it was also a gift from my boyfriend). If you have a pre September 2008 iPod, this will play and charge it. If you have a new iPod, you're gonna have to look into buying a 25 dollar adapter to charge it. Whether or not it's worth it is totally up to you. :)

It plays the ipod, obvious. The sound is surprisingly clear. bass though is a little weak, but that's because there's no subwofer. if you have a 3g nano, it doesn't do tv out, but you can you the speakers on the clock to watch your videos ;)

does its job as an alarm clock and charger

one problem though: the LCD is backlit entirely, so for those of you who need to sleep in the total dark, this clock is rather bright at night

I got this as a christmas present from my parents and I was unfortunately very disappointed with the quality of this dock. The speakers are not very loud and do not sound crisp and clear. The clock itself runs fast and I have to readjust it every other week to keep it in line with "real" time... it's off by 4 minutes sometimes!!!

I needed a dock with a radio for my desk at work. I wanted the iHome but I can't justify the price of that right now, so I settled for this. It gets decent reception on the radio, and it sounds pretty good, too, but the display is difficult to read. There is not enough contrast between the numbers and the background. Also, for some reason it takes twice as long to charge my iPod than the power cord. Weird.

I was hesitant about this unit before purchasing. I wasn't blown away by it's slightly dated look but I took the chance because so many of the other fancier-looking iPod radios are poorly reviewed. But this item was nice works great sounds good to.

thanks!

OK, I have been living with this thing for a couple months and I am ready to give it the full review top to

bottom! I'll cover the packaging, installation, initial impressions, what works well, what doesn't,

predicted reliability and any tips or tricks that I have learned.

Let's start with the packaging, nothing fancy and if I recall it comes with the metal sleeve, a

couple of 'keys' to remove the radio from the sleeve, a short metal strap to mount it and two wiring

harnesses that plug into the back of the radio. One harness is for power, ground, remote turn on, etc. and

the other is the speaker outputs. Directly connected to the back of the radio (no harness) are all the

inputs and outputs. It also has a manual, the exact same one you can get from the bossaudio web site. Upon

unboxing I looked over the radio and you can tell the Quality Control is not really A+. It works fine and was

not broken in any way but the back side of the screen had a smudge on it and the corner of the front bezel

still had plastic 'flashing' sticking out a little bit. Not a highly polished product that is for sure but I

am not going to be super picky at this price.

Next, installation was fairly easy with this unit. You can wire both wiring harnesses before you put

the radio in since they are modular, leave enough slack to plug them into the radio, plug in the RCAs then

you slide the radio into the sleeve in whatever opening you put it in. Perhaps this is me but there are two

stages of insertion of the radio into the sleeve. The first stage 'clicks' once you get it in a certain

amount. If you push it in really snug it will click into the two small holes right near the front of the

radio on the sides. I was not able to get it to click into the tighter set of holes and also get the

faceplate and trim frame onto the radio. I had to slide it in the first set of holes which leaves about a 1

to 2mm gap between the radio and the sleeve, which looks a little cheesy from the side if you look closely.

The silver metal sleeve really is noticable in that little gap. I painted my metal sleeve black since it

bothered me.

My impressions and observations about this unit have come over the last couple months. The features

that I have used have been AM and FM radio, front USB, SD Card, picture viewing, mp4 playback, DVD playback,

front RCA out, internal amp, and subwoofer out. I'll go over each one by one.

AM Radio: reception is pretty good and sound quality is nice. One problem that I have had is that

when I go over bumps sometimes the AM (FM also but not as bad) radio will sound like the reception is

dropping. I don't know if the electronics for the radio are in the detachable panel but if I shift the front

panel around and tap it lightly it tends to go away. It seems the worst on cold mornings. Not a big deal

now that I know what it is but if you don't know it almost sounds like you wired something incorrectly. I

wonder if the front panel is just a little flimsy which causes this problem. I would suggest not removing

the detachable front panel. I used to do it a lot when I first got it (paranoid I guess!) and I wonder if

that caused stress on the front panel.

FM Radio: again, reception is pretty good and the number of presets is nice (18). THe LOC function,

like just about every other radio I have ever had, doesn't seem to do a darn thing. What's nice about the

radio is that if you press "clock" you can read the time quite clearly. The same cannot be said in the other

modes.

Front USB: pretty much functions like the SD card. Plug it in and it will read your files and start

playing. If you leave it in the next time you turn it on it will start at the same place you left off which

is nice. SD card does the same thing.

Picture viewing: Not much to see here. Maybe a nice feature if you want to show someone something or

look at a slideshow. Just jpg I think is compatible. Big (3GB or more) pictures do take a while to render.

It would be nice if you could make a picture your wallpaper but I do not think you can.

MP4 playback. OK, I wish more info were published about this but I can say that you can't go wrong

if your video file is encoded with Xvid for video and mp3 as audio. The manual doesn't say what kind of .mp4

files work but I suspect only divx/xvid. I can say that I have not had a single .mp4/x264 video play. I

don't think it has the horsepower anyway. The framerate can be pretty much anything 25/30 fps but it did

start to choke on 50/60 fps video. Not sure the max bitrate but I used up to 2400kbps and it played fine.

Just make sure your largest dimension is at least 640 on the width or 480 on the height. You definitely

cannot throw an HD file at it. I hope this helps someone. I wish I had known.

DVD playback. In a word, nice. I did not try PAL DVD but they probably play fine as well which is

nice. The audio along with it is nice. I almost like watching DVDs in the car better because I have a

better dynamic range and frequency response in my car than in my house. Some 4 x 3 stuff is stretched to 16 x

9 which might bother some but I guess it's OK. YOu cannot resize the aspect ratio.

RCA out: Levels seem to be fine. The pre-amp outs didn't have quite enough juice and I had a little

bit of hiss at low volume when I cranked up the sensitivity on my equalizer. I backed that off and set the

gain on my amp instead so it seems to be pretty good now. The volume is certainly electronically controlled

and not analog as the volume goes up in 'steps' when starting at low volume. This is a little annoying and I

would prefer infinite gain but not a big deal breaker.

Internal amp: I ran this before I got my external amp hooked up and I'll be darned if it isn't half

bad. If you are on a budget (like me!) this really is not a bad amp. Not nearly as good as a component amp

but it sure isn't bad. If you are running the internal amp I highly recommend very good power cabling (at

least 8 AWG if not 4) and good speaker wire (minimum 14 AWG). I ran the factory wiring and the display would

dim pretty bad when I turned it up loud. I would bet that would go away with good cabling.

Subwoofer out: Used this today for the first time. It's a mono out. I am not sure what the db/octave

is and the crossover frequency and I do not remember seeing it in the manual but if I had to guess I would

say 80Hz at maybe 18db / octave. That is a wild guess though. Seems to work fine. After testing many features

along with my observations about the radio dropping out over bumps I don't really predict this radio will last forever

but for now it works fine and it should keep on chugging for a few years.

Finally here are all the little niggles and observations I have about the radio. Yes the front panel

does feel a little sketchy and it is a little tough to pop in and out without feeling like you might break

it. It has been fine though. The volume knob is just doggone slippery and sometimes hard to turn up and

down with confidence. It is slightly annoying to have to always toggle through the "AV" (rear view camera) mode every time I

switch from radio to USB or SD Card, etc. I don't have anything hooked to the video in. The options/setup menu is pretty

nice and I accidentally set something that I shouldn't and the audio was really choppy. I changed some sort of setting for

dynamic range it went back to normal. Fit and finish are kinda bad. The clock is hard to read on the SD Card/USB screen

since it is bright green on top of fairly bright gray with lots of letters. Some people complain about the interface and

indeed it is bare bones and not very flashy but it gets the job done just fine and I am sure its simplicity (linux perhaps?)

probaby allows them to offer such a versatile product at such a great price. Also, some have complained about how bright

the display is. I don't really have a problem with it personally. I think I need to mention the fan in the back. It does not run when using the radio but if you use the memory card / DVD / USB it will spin up. I am guessing it is a CPU fan. Mine spins up pretty loud at first, especially when it is cold. If you are listening to music at a relatively low level the fan sound is kinda loud.

If you look back 10 or 20 years on what radios used to do this thing does a ton and does them well.

It's fairly unobtrusive / not a real looker (i.emight not be that interesting to potential thieves)

does a ton of stuff and rocks the house. I can't give it 5 stars because it isn't perfect but for the price

I have to give it 5 stars. Bluetooth would have been nice but oh well...

The sound is much better than expected very happy.

The screen is very clear and more than acceptable.

This stereo also had two additional Video-Outputs. I connected one to a dash mounted 7" Legacy Monitor and it looks great. Note the Video-Outputs DO NOT show output when in "Radio Mode". But do show output when a CD/MP3/DVD Movie are inserted.

Tested Terminator 2 in DVD Mode Looked and sounded great!

Camera Input which works as expected.

Tested a purchased DVD movie, three different Home-Made DVD Movies, DVD with MP3's, CD & CD with MP3's, ALL worked with NO Problem!

For the "Parking Break Safety Feature", just Ground the Green wire to any ground to bypass.

Note The reason for a "4-Star" rating and not 5 The Product Description makes it sound like a "Touch-Screen", it is NOT a Touchscreen, it is Touch "Controls" only. This is mostly my mistake, should have read the description closer and then contacted the seller, but would be nice if said something like "Touch-Controls Only, not a Touch-Screen".

I purchased this radio for my 1991 Ford Explorer. I will admit a was a little iffy about this radio but so far it has worked perfectly. The radio works fine its very easy to install and the cd/dvd player works great. To make the dvd player work you have to plug the parking brake green wire to the parking break system but if your like myself you have no idea what that is. I just went online and searched for a bypass for boss radio parking brake wire and it simply told me the answer, went outside and tried it worked great. :) So thankful for technology and blogs! Other then that one thing that bugged me is the when you turn up the radio there is a clicking noise which is quite loud. If you like myself I hate the clicking noise, but you get used to it. The screen for movies is very good quality! When you plug in the ipod through USB it syncs with the deck but the letters are very small, its a little difficult to read but if your like myself once again I just go through the folders not knowing whats going to play and just listen to what song comes on. Its kinda fun :) Overall radio works perfectly have had no problems and would definitely suggest this to anyone, you definitely get more for your money!

I purchased this unit for my wife's car. Its a decent unit with a nice sound that brought the factory speakers to life. The video is nice and clear. The downfalls with this unit is CD's take a while to read, the aux. port always says no signal, the usb doesn't work with anything (Ipod or cell phone) other then a flash drive and the bluetooth is very "iffy". It will sync and unsync at will and thats if it even syncs in the first place. Cell phones seem to sync better than Ipods. Also, there are no graphics while a CD or SD card plays music and the music shuffle feature doesn't do a good job of shuffling. But the unit isn't too bad for $150.00. After all, you get what you pay for.

After reading some of the reviews and seeing the sheer number of people who bought this stereo I decided to take a chance on it. My requirements are very basic, I just wanted a car stereo that can play from SD Card and USB. I decided on this one because I figured a high-res screen would make it easier to browse through all the folders of MP3s on the SD card. A lot of similarly inexpensive units have the basic 8-character display which I know from past experience is just not cutting it when you want to see the name of the song playing or the folder it's in, let alone being able to browse through folders effectively.

What I found after a week of using this product is that even with my basic expectations it just has too many fatal and disappointing flaws. One or two annoyances I could live with but after a week I was ready to return it, even given the hassle and expense. Unfortunately amazon has a 50% restocking fee for opened items on top of paying for return shipping. I would have maybe gotten $30 or $40 back which is pointless, I'm sure I could get more just selling it used. I am writing this review in the hopes that it will save other buyers the hassle, cost and disappointment that comes with this stereo.

Here are the main flaws that make what should have been a great stereo into a tragic waste of time and money:

* The display is next to useless. It has an incredible resolution for its size and price but all of those pixels are wasted because of poor software design. The text is white on light blue in an extremely tiny font, it can't be read at all unless you get your face right down to within a few inches of it. It is 100% impossible to read anything on the display while driving, I've even tried leaning down (very dangerously) and still wasn't able to read it.

* Even if you could see the text, all file and folder names are truncated to 6 characters so if you're listening to, for example, a song called "06 All That We Perceive.mp3" in a folder called "Thievery Corporation The Richest Man in Babylon", what you will see on screen is that your song is called "06 A~1" and the folder is called "THIEVE~1". Not that it really matters because the text is impossible to read while driving anyway.

* The display is blindingly bright at night. Not a little bit bright, REALLY REALLY BRIGHT. Bright enough that just trying to ignore it is not even an option. There is no way to turn it down. Your only option is to flip open the detachable face, which means that you can no longer adjust volume, skip a song, or use any other controls. I had no idea how often I tend to make little volume adjustments and skip songs until faced with this inconvenience.

* Just to make it that much worse, if you do try to flip the faceplate back into place to adjust the volume or hit skip, it takes a few seconds for the controls to become active. A few seconds may not sound like a long time but in this context it seems like an eternity. Forget ever being able to drive around and enjoy your music without having this thing testing your patience. Turning it on also takes a long time.

* As other reviews mentioned this stereo makes loud clicking noises in your speakers for no particular reason. I saw that other reviewers mentioned this and figured they must have installed it incorrectly and were getting alternator interference. Nope, this stereo just sends clicks down the wire and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

* The buttons do not respond unless pushed very hard. You pretty much have to be pushing the entire faceplate into the deck before a button responds. Again it sounds like a minor thing but its hugely annoying.

* I thought it was weird that other reviewers said the Random feature wasn't really random but after using it I see exactly what they mean. It tends to favor certain songs over others. I've had it play the same song twice with only 1 other song in between, and it's played that same song a disproportionately large number of times over the last week.

* As another viewer mentioned the "Aux" port (the small hole where you would typically plug in your iPod, cell phone or other device to play music through) only works if you are using an audio-video plug. It looks similar to the iPod plug but is different and thus you will only get music playing out of the left speaker if you try to connect an audio device through it.

Digital LED Light Weather Projection Clock with Alarm and Snooze Function

Digital LED Light Weather Projection Clock with Alarm and Snooze Function
  • Projection time function (1~5m projection distance).
  • Color display, Calendar display, LED Backlight, Temperature and humidity display and maximum temperature and humidity records.
  • Crescendo alarm with snooze function.
  • Dual Power Supply: 3 x AAA battery (NOT included)/ DC 4.5v input (PC USB port is available) (NOT included).
  • Size: 13.8 x 2 x 9 cm (LxWxH), Color: Silver and black.

The clock was due to arrive in the mail today so I went back to the page and looked at it again ... this time noticing the clock was projecting military time on the ceiling. I hoped there would be a way to change that and, after reading the instructions, there is a way to change it, sooooo, whew.

Reading further it seems that the clock does NOT come with an ac adapter (plug in.) That's right, it runs on THREE triple-A batteries (also not included.)

Reading further I find that the "projector" is not constantly on when running on battery power. (Note: I later found out that NOTHING on the clock looks like it is on when it's running on battery power.) You have to press a button on the clock and then the projector (and the regular display) comes on for eight seconds.

The projector IS constantly on if you use the AC adapter (where do you GET this adapter?) Nothing in the instructions or elsewhere clues me in. It's a 4.5 volt adapter ... that's all it tells you. I"m guessing an adapter isn't really like a charger so there probably aren't a lot of other factors involved so I hope to be able to find one of these at Radio Shack or something.

I haven't even fired up the clock yet but I wanted to write this review to alert people to things I missed by being in a rush.

When I put in the order, the company, "BrainyTrade USA," was out of them and they sent me an email letting me know that they'd have one in a couple of days and they wanted to know if that would be ok ... and if I allowed that then they would send me an "all-in-one" card reader. I told them that would be fine and they shipped the clock two days later (as promised) and included the card reader. I feel like I would buy something from them again.

------

Ok, I bought the adapter ($15.) I started setting the various options per the instructions but the instructions aren't perfectly clear about things. For example, it says "press 'mode and 'up' to set ... but it does not tell you to release the mode button when you start pressing the 'up' button. A couple of other things like that could be clearer but I figured it out with some trial and error.

This clock shows the humidity and temperature (as if I care.) Right now the humidity says "LL" and I have no idea what that means. Right now I'm in an air conditioned room and it's about 72 degrees. The temperature is showing 105.8 Fahrenheit ... that's 41 degrees centigrade/celsius. Perhaps the AC adapter is affecting its reading ... who knows ... I didn't buy a clock for the humidity and temperature. It also has some bars on it showing some +/info but I couldn't work up the interest to find out what they were.

I put batteries in the clock as well just to see if the batteries would take over in case of a power outage. Answer: Yes ... but, since the batteries start running the clock, the display is not lit ... so you have to press the "light button" to even see what time it is. UPDATE: about a week later the power went off but the batteries did NOT sustain the clock settings ... so I had to reset it.

On the bright side ... I really like the clock so far. The projector is bright enough to see the time (on the ceiling )even when the light in the room is on. With my other clock it has to be really dark before you can see the projector time on the ceiling. UPDATE: About two weeks later, the bright display on the clock is dim and unreadable in the light. However, the ceiling projector is still working fine.

CONCLUSION: After paying for the clock and the adapter I had about $30 in it ... and two-three weeks later it doesn't work properly. No, I would NOT buy it again.

This clock turns on with batteries, however it will not stay lit up unless it is plugged into the wall. The cord for this to happen does not come included. A waste of money.

The clock was a present for two sisters, however; both clocks were difficult to set up, so the gift was not what I expected and cosidering sending them back.

This clock looks great on your nightstand but don't try to stop the alarm or it will be on the floor. Poorly supported and it has a small button to light up the display and/or stop the alarm, hard to find when you're awaken from a sound sleep. Still haven't figured out what the colorful line display at the bottom is for. Got it because it also displays the humidity in addition to time, date and temp. Problem is the humidity doesn't display accurately until well after it changes. During a rainstorm recently it indicated the humidity as 27%. Not happy with the design and display functions but as I stated, it looks nice.

Projection only on when you press snooze button. I have no use for this clock because of lack of this function.
