I like this product except for the clock feature. Having a clock running on an item that is mostly for emergencies just means that the batteries are going to be less effective than I want them to be. Crank lever improvement in design but radio still to easy to turn on by accident.

The GPX WF308 isn't a top of the line AM/FM/NOAA Radio, that you can spend anywhere from $50-$100 on. However, in a pinch, this little radio will suffice. I tried this radio indoors when I received it first and it did pick up AM/FM stations. I didn't pick up any NOAA alerts (which is a good sign, of course), however, am a little skeptical of the reception without an antenna. I have tested this outdoors as well. Where I live is rather secluded (in the woods), and it was good that I received a signal indoors/outdoors. Nonetheless, having this and my Scorpion Emergency Radio in my bug out bags puts me a little closer to being at ease. On to the pro's and con's:

The Pro's:

Fairly Light (for what it offers).

Runs on C Batteries and Hand Cranking.

Picks up AM/FM frequencies.

Flashlight and Lantern (which are decent enough to help guide you in the dark).

Plastic casing doesn't seem too cheap, but I wouldn't get overly aggressive with it.

The Con's:

The clock simply drains the batteries as well as any juice that you've given it by cranking. The clock is the only real downfall to this product.

Very happy with this. It got me through hurricane Irene. No electricity for a week. Easy to figure out. Best of all, it doesn't need D batteries, which are hard to find when their is a storm coming.

We just purchased this for our office emergency use and had to use it last Thursday...it worked like a charm...

We like LED lights for camping and mini-emergencies. This lantern lights either four or seven LEDs in the flashlight and five in the handle floodlight. Both of these are bright. I also want better switching for dim energy saving lighting. The mono FM radio seems fine. No earphone jack. AM reception seems weak. It has a weather radio also.

There is a (small?) built in NiMH battery that is charged by the crank or charger. Also four C cells can be inserted after which the unit will not balance on its end where the flood light is most practical. It is not clear if rechargeable C cells will be charged by the crank or external (not included) 12VDC chargers. The unit is solidly made and might be very useful.

Oregon Scientific RRM902A Advanced Rainbow Clock

Needlessly complex. The "accessible" controls are touch and seem to work randomly. The description says the snooze is a touch button, there's not a button here, just a flat narrow surface which requires correct placement for 2 seconds.

All the other controls are tiny black buttons on a black background on the back of the clock.

The rainbow light is really neat, except it's too bright to leave on during sleep and very cumbersome to turn on & off.

The display is gorgeous at dusk, during the day it looks like an old gas-plasma computer screen and is hard to read. At night it's seeringly bright on the lowest setting.

The "soothing" sounds for me weren't soothing, 7 of them contain chirping birds dilluting the variety of some otherwise pleasant sounds. I found it challenging to change them too. Sometimes they would, sometimes they wouldn't.

The Atomic clock would not get a signal. Another atomic clock from the same manufacturer does in the same place.

Way too much $$$ for this. If it was 25 dollars I wouldn't expect so much.

My old clock gained about 3 minutes per week and had to be reset once a month. I guess that's better than loosing time and being late but what a pain. After careful research I decided this would fit my needs perfectly. I already have a Casio G-Shock atomic watch that resets itself and I love it. I thought why not for the bedroom. Several of the reviews Oregon Scientific clocks said negative things about "hard to set up" or "can't receive the time signal" but my research showed this was still the best choice out there. Well I could't be happier and here's why:

Pros:

1. Nice clean design. I have a lot of Apple products and I appreciate something that is nice to look at. This is kinda a work of art.

2. Picks up the time signal well. I unpacked this in my office which is semi-below ground with a concrete wall on the hill side of the office and only a window in the door. The signal was weak but as soon as I moved it to the bedroom with windows on two sides it picked up the signal within a couple of minutes and set itself to the correct time. I checked this with my Casio and the setting was right on-to the second. What else would you expect. I live in the mountains and the signal was still strong.

3. The rainbow lights. Well I like em' . I'm certain not everybody would agree, but for me I like a nightlight effect in the bedroom. Where we live there is no light outside except when the moon is out so it can be dark as a cave inside at certain times of the year. This provides plenty of light if I have to get up in the night, so I'm going to move the night light to another room.

4. I didn't test the dim feature for the display. For me the orange display is just right as it comes from the factory.

5. Nature sounds. This has 8 different sounds. This is the reason I picked this model. I like the "garden" but there are enough "soothing sounds" to please anybody. The volume control works well, you and go from "I can't hear it" to annoying.

6. Setup was easy, no problems there. The remote temp sensor doesn't come with a mounting screw but a quick trip to the junk drawer and I had one. I mounted the remote sensor on the outside of the window frame in the bedroom. I chose a location where it would get little direct sun. It seems no location is free from sun all day long however I choose a location that doesn't receive morning sun and no sunshine directly after 2 PM. I'm not in bed during the day so who cares about mid-day inaccuracies.

1. I have to tell you, we can't get any FM station where we live so I didn't test the radio.

Cons:

1. The battery for the remote sensor is cheap. Throw it away. Cheap batteries leak. I don't know how many devices I've had where you open them up when the battery dies and they are corroded. Since I read another comment about this a year ago I just toss the battery that comes from the factory. I replaced it with a Every-Ready lithium AA. Besides the manual says "replace battery with lithium if you are going to use the sensor in freezing conditions".

I usually don't write reviews but another reviewer had such a bad review that I almost didn't buy this. I just wanted to give you another opinion.

First off, I own about 5 temp / projection / auto clocks (this one doesn't have projection). I like this one. I can see how the light show thing wouldn't be for everyone, but my kids love it, and you can turn it off if you don't like it. What I like about this clock is that it is bright enough and big enough to be easy to read at night, even without my contacts, so I don't miss the projection feature. I also found that this clock sync'd right up with the temperature probe and time signal. We've had a bunch of clocks that always seem to struggle to sort out either the time signal or had some convoluted process to sync'ing with the temp probe. I don't use any of the sounds or the alarm, but visually this works for me.

LG 800G Prepaid Phone With Triple Minutes (Tracfone)

This is an excellent step-up from the flip-phones that those of us who rarely use a cell phone were stuck with if we wanted to pay low amounts for a cell phone and usage. There's also a similar Motorola model at Tracfone but it doesn't list under my zip code so I haven't compared the two phones.

I'll upgrade this report after I've become familiar with all the bells and whistles: for example, the specs call for a max. 8 GB micro SDHC card but supposedly the software will only handle 4 GB. The software has been upgraded (see "1" below) and I'm going to test the limits. Meanwhile, here are five key things you may not know about:

1) Software Version:

When you get your phone, make sure you have the improved software version (V10e as of this writing) and not the older, buggy one (V10d) that might be sitting on a seller's shelf for some months:

A) From the main screen press the square with 4 dots at the lower right.

B) On the next screen, press the "Settings" icon in the lower right.

C) On the next screen, press "Phone".

D) On the next screen, scroll down with your finger on the red bar to the very bottom, then press "Information".

E) On the next screen, press "Device Information".

F) At the very bottom, under "S/W Version" it should say "V10e" (or later). It must NOT say "V10d" V10d is the buggy version.

2) Screen Size: The 2.8" (diagonally measured) screen on the LG-800G is 2 5/16" vertically and 1 3/4" horizontally, held in the standard "portrait" position. For comparison, the view screen on my 2"x2"x4" camcorder is a typical 2 1/8" x 1 1/2", only 79% as much screen as the LG-800G.

3) Needed accessories not included with the phone or Tracfone's Universal Accessories Kit:

A) Micro SDHC card to provide extra memory: the specs say 8 GB max, users say 4 GB max: I'll update this after some testing with the latest software version (V10e). It's needed if you want to store a lot of apps, vids of your kids playing music, soccer, presenting their science project, etc. A 4 GB card is only $4+ with free shipping on Amazon as I write this. The "internal memory" built into the phone is 20.4 MB (0.0204 GB) of which 18.8 MB is free when the phone arrives. That is fine for some pics, messages, a couple of apps, etc. but not a lot more.

B) Cable for phone to computer USB connection ($2.34 with free shipping on Amazon as I write this): Since you can treat the phone's memory like a hard drive from the computer, you can use the internet service on a computer to download apps, etc. instead of using up cell phone minutes. You can also transfer photos, videos, etc. to and from the computer.

C) many recommend a screen protector: a thin transparent film that statically sticks to the screen. They're anywhere from $1-$6.

4) Comparison Shopping:

If you buy directly from Tracfone and pay the full price, you get an additional "Universal Accessory Kit." But there's not a lot of info as to what it contains so here it is:

It contains a car cigarette-lighter-receptacle charger (the AC charger comes with the phone itself), an earbud with mike for hands free use and adapters for any LG phone, and a clunky, cheap, but shirt pocket wearable pouch with a permanent belt loop attached to it -but whose weak closing strength I'd never trust on a belt loop: it does offer good protection of the display screen, though, in case something would rub against it or it fell our of a shirt pocket.

5) For Existing Tracfone Customers Transferring Phone No. & Minutes:

A) When you transfer phone number and minutes: your expiration date is transferred and 60 days added to it and your all your minutes, no matter if they come from the most recent minutes you bought or from rollovers, are transferred and 10 minutes added to them.

B) It may take an hour or more for the transfers to take place, so don't activate/deactivate the phones if you'll need your cell phone in the following couple of hours. They have a temporary number assignment workaround if you have to do it that way, but there's a charge. All that said, it only took about 10 minutes or so for my new phone to become activated after the old one was deactivated.

C) For those Tracfone customers who upgraded and say they didn't get their minutes transferred:

That INITIALLY happened to me: the phone number was transferred but not the minutes. A call to Tracfone several hours later required about 10 minutes time for them to verify I had had minutes left on my old (now inactive) Tracfone and transfer them. An excellent sales rep who corrected the problem for me said their system is buggy and sometimes cuts off the minutes when the phone number is transferred.

My husband and I have owned Tracfone's for 8 years. He's not a big cell phone guy therefore I haven't been able to talk him into phones like and Antroid Touch or an iphone, which I'd love. So I have to settle for what Tracfone has to offer. After losing my newest phone (LG 500g) I deceided to go with what I really wanted and that was a touch screen phone. This model has not disappointed me. I call it the "poor mans touch screen phone" because the size obviously doesn't compare to iphones or Androids but if your looking for a phone like that with extras such as web browsing, games (with game download capability), camera, video, and a few other things like an alarm setting ect. then this just might fill that need. The thing I like about it compared to a phone like the LG 500g is that it's a full screen and not a keyboard taking up half the available screen space. I downloaded the Facebook app and it's actually worth using the web browser to check Facebook & email. Texting it easy. Not any more difficult then trying to hit the right keys on the small LG 500g keyboard. I'm finding the screen very responsive to touch as well. I ordered a memory card as well because I needed to get some video of my son's piano sent to me from an iphone but my LG5 500g said there wasn't enough room to receive them AFTER it deducted my units for them:( Had problems with accidently hitting the browser button with my LG 500g and I lost a lot of units that way. Shouldn't be a problem with this phone. That was the deciding factor when choosing between this phone and the Samsung 404g. I hope this review helps. I would also recommend a phone cover because these phones are quite slippery, which is how I lost my last phone.

I recently got this LG800g Tracfone to replace an older LG225 flip phone, primarily because I wanted a cookie type phone that could also serve as an mp3 player. I purchased a data cable, 4 gb micro disk (the max for this particular phone), and silicone gel case from Amazon, so for under $70 I have everything I need to make this phone function for all my needs. When connected to a docking station, the sound is awesome--and welcome--since our local radio station decided Central California residents are no longer interested in classical music. Transferring my number and minutes over to the new phone was easy with Tracfone's customer service.

As for transferring music onto your Tracfone, just be sure you connect to "Mass Storage" so the device icon shows up in "My Computer". Then it's a snap to cut and paste or copy/paste from one drive to another.

If you are new to the LG800g, Google tutorials for an impressive list of tasks. I did this to create playlists for my phone so I can separate the classics from the Celtic and so forth.

With the triple minutes for life option, I will never run out of minutes. Neat!

For the last year I've been cell-less, one because I could no longer justify a $30/month bill for something I used maybe 30-40 minutes a month on, and two when I did purchase a prepaid phone it felt cheap and the sound quality wasn't that good. This is the prepaid phone of my dreams. I love the touch screen display, it's big enough for me to see what I'm doing and it looks and works like every other contract feature phone I've used. The sound quality is great it reminds me of a land line, no one can even tell I'm using a cellphone it's so clear.

I've never used a tracfone before but I'm overly impressed. This phone gives you triple minutes for life and if you're a person who doesn't talk much a 400 minute card tripled to 1200 minutes can last you a year for $100. I love I can use those minutes how ever I want whether on texting, internet browsing or calls. I forgot to mention that the same 400 minute card gives you 2400 minutes of web browsing or a whopping 3600 text, I was even able to use the phone to text my votes on american idol last week. It charges .30 minute to send and .30 minute to receive a confirmation of your vote. That's still less than calling and wasting a whole minute.

I live in an area that's prone to rolling blackouts during the summertime and now I'll be able to browse the web to find where the nearest cool zone will be without spending a arm & leg in data charges. That's something I can't do once the electricity is out and my wifi no longer works, plus this phone doubles as a well organized mp3 player. I'm set. I purchased this phone from HSN with 1500 minutes, a case and car charger for $100. Every now and then you can catch it as a TSV for that price. I also purchased a screen protector and 4 gb micro sdhc card to go with it. I literally feel like I won some kind of jackpot with this phone.

BTW this phone does not have a flashing light to tell you when you have missed a message. I just realized if you go into settings, then profiles, and select normal, outdoor, silent, etc, there is a secret menu where you can set a audible message reminder of once, or every 1-10 minutes. Make sure you get a good ringtone from the tracfone website and your set. I really love this phone!!!

If you buy this phone for other reasons than using it as a communication device then you should buy the 4gb Micro SD memory card and the LG Micro USB Data Cable. If you want to be able to upload your music or download your videos and pictures you must set up your External Memory. Here are some steps I went through:

1. Install the 4gb Micro SD card,

2. Connect the USB data cable,

3. The screen should say Connect to Mass Storage,

4. Choose yes.

5. I then made the choice to exit.

Something else you may have to do is:

1. Click the MENU icon.

2. Then select the Settings icon.

3. Then select the Phone icon.

4. Then select the Memory Info icon.

5. Then select the Primary Storage Settings icon.

6. If a check mark does not appear next to the External Memory icon,

click on the box to have it selected.

Now when you connect the cable to your computer and say Connect to Mass Storage, you should press Start and select My Computer. Now You should see a Removable Storage Icon. Click on this and your music, video, documents etc. folders should be there.

For a while I thought LG stood for Looking Grim but life's good when you can get things working your way.

I was looking for a replacement to my 8-year-old (annoying beep, beep) alarm clock. I also wanted to get speakers for my laptop. So, I thought, let's get an all-in-one. I was originally going to get the iHome IH9 Alarm Clock for iPod (Black), because of the iPod attachment. However, I chose this product over it because 1) you can put the speakers anywhere, 2) it has better sound (in my opinion), 3) you can also plug in a USB stick or other peripheral that has MP3 or WMA files. It's sound is good for something so small, and even has a built-in subwoofer for bass, and for added bass has "Dynamic Bass Boost" which has great response. Remote control works good, as does the iPod dock, and the USB drive. The FM tuner doesn't work that well for me, then again, I didn't buy it for that. Has an alarm and sleep function, both are handy. When the alarm goes off, the music turns on gradually to a max of 12, which is pretty loud. So if you're one of those people that, to wake up, one must also have to wake the dead, I recommend putting war sounds on your iPod for this purpose. Keeps track of time pretty well, a concern since one of the reviewers for the aforementioned product mentioned that on his review (of the iHome). Good sound, good looks, that's what you're looking at. If you can pay the price, this is a good 2.1 solution. I plan on keeping mine around for a long time. Thank you for checking this review. Overall, this is a nice system that works fairly well and sounds decent. It's operating limitations hold it back from being very good or great.

This system offers four "modes" of operation:

1. iPod docking/charging station with limited operation via the Philips remote.

2. FM Radio with digital tuning, and 20 presets.

3. MP3/WMA audo from a USB Mass Storage Device (USB drive).

4. Alarm Clock play audio from one of three sources (FM, iPod, MP3 on USB drive).

I suspect most people will be interested in this system for the iPod docking feature (at this price point). Philips supplies four different adapters [see note 1] that allow docking of all versions of iPod. Once docked, the system charges your iPod.

It offers only limited control of an iPod via the supplied remote; you CAN NOT traverse iPod menus using the remote. You can only play/skip/goto-start/goto-end a playlist (or play mode, such as playing everything by a certain artist), and that you must select from the iPod menus directly via the iPod controls.

This limitation is disappointing. It would be nice to be able to more fully control a docked iPod. But, for less than $100 (and with its other qualities) it is still a good product.

Sound quality is pretty good for such a small system. It has sufficient power to blast a medium-sized room, and the sound is pretty clean and crisp (I'm no audiophile though). Base is, oddly enough, its only weakness though not in the way you might expect. There are only two modes normal and Base Boost. In the normal (non Base Boost) play mode base is a little weak. In Base Boost, base is generally a little too pronounced for me when I'm right in front of the unit (especially since it is located in a shelving space that seems to amplify the base), but sounds very good when further away.

The FM radio is pretty decent, with good sensitivity and selectivity. It relies though on having an external antenna (75 Ohm coaxial connector on back, like many older TVs had). Though all initial product information, including that packaged with the system, indicates that a wire antenna is included IT ISN'T![note 1] For the last few weeks we've been able to get by using a simple twin-core wire antenna from a mini-stereo this system replaced (just wire that barely makes contact with the antenna connector).

We have not yet played MP3 or non-DRM WMA files from a USB drive, but this is one of the DC 199's features that helped me decide to purchase this system. As far as I know this is the only system that offers this. With unprotected MP3 music becoming more available via iTunes and other sources, this feature is one we are likely to use more and more.

The clock/alarm clock feature might be useful for some. We don't use it. As far as we can tell, it works as one would expect.

Pros:

iPod docking for every type (I think).

iPod play control using supplied IR remote.

Sound from satellite/sub-woofer design is generally rich and clear.

FM radio discrimination/selectivity and sensitivity is pretty good.

Playing MP3 files on USB disks is kinda nice.

Inexpensive as iPod docking/powered speaker systems go.

Cons:

Limitations on iPod play control using supplied IR remote.

On/off Base emphasis more gradual base emphasis would have been much better.

FM receiver not much use without external antenna, which isn't included.

My conclusion: For the money this system is a good deal if you want to be able to listen to both iPod playback AND FM radio, or if you download music onto your computer and want to listen to it somewhere else in the house (from a USB drive).

Notes:

[1] All information I could find on this system before Christmas, including the User's Manual obtained from Philips' web site, indicated that an external wire antenna and eight iPod adapters were included in the DC 199/37B package. There was no antenna and only four adapters in the box. The distributor and Philips customer support have been helpful trying to resolve this (it's Philips' problem, really), but the bottom line is that after several weeks we still do not have the right antenna for it. A Philips tech. support person told me just yesterday that the documentation he has does NOT indicated that an antenna is included with the unit, and that only four adapters are included (the documents seem to have been revised to match reality).

We were disappointed to find that this device would not charge the ipod nano 4th generation, although the manufacturer's web site indicated that it was compatible with the ipod nano with no specifics on which models. It would play the 4th generation fine with decent quality sound, but there was a warning on the ipod indicating that it was not charging. An older ipod model we have did charge fine. I called Apple and they confirmed that this device is not compatible with the 4th generation. We sent the Phillips speakers back to Amazon and promptly received a full refund. We purchased an iHome device that works well. We recommend contacting Apple to confirm compatibility before purchasing a speaker system to go with an ipod.

I actually purchased this product through a local retailer (not Amazon) and I'm very happy with my purchase. I purchased this primarily to play music off of my ipod touch (which it does not charge, but there is an available adaptor to make it charge while being docked). Not only does it play music off of my ipod, but I can use one of the adaptors that came with the system and plug my ipod in through the headphones jack and play Pandora radio (a self made radio station that creates a playlist for you based on your favorite artists, songs, or genres). Though several people complained about the usage of the remote for the commands, I'm ok with using the ipod screen for most of my info. As for charging while using, using the aux cable frees up the charging jack on the ipod so it can be plugged into a wall. I don't consider this a hassle but some might.

I bought this system after walking up and down the store with my ipod and a couple of songs ready to play and plugged them in to all of the docking stations and shelf systems. The price points started at 50.00 and went up. We tried them all...even ready to consider Altec Lansing, Harmon Kardon, or Bose for a good sounding docking station that would take up little space. So after plugging in and turning up about 15 systems, we were pleased to find the one we enjoyed the most (thanks to it not sounding very tinny compared to most of them) was at the lower end of the price point. The main unit is actually a mini-subwoofer with a small tube built in. The speakers are wired but if you wanted to extend you could splice in additional line (keep in mind sound quality goes down the longer you make the wiring).

The controls may have been easier to use on other models, but the sound quality was the biggest factor in this purchase and I feel I got a very good product to fill this need.

This iPod Dock is great! It has great sound quality and some solid bass. It isn't just good for your iPod but is good for any AUX or USB device.

The only flaw is that the remote sometimes doesn't work. It is easily fixable by going onto the radio and switching stations, then going back to the iPod.

I am happy with all the functions of this unit except that when you put it in standby mode, which it has to be in for the alarm to work, the clock display goes dark. There is no way to see the time if you wake in the night. I called TEAC to ask if there was a way around this and the tech said "No we had so many complaints about the display being too bright that we disabled it completely". Nice way to improve a product. In the market for a table radio, I looked closely at models from Bose and Cambridge. Product reviews of those units led me to look at the Teac SR-L250iB. I'm glad I did. I was prepared to pay 3x the price I paid but I took a chance based on the previous recommendations and they were accurate! The unit is attractive, rugged and compact, the sound quality is excellent and there are more features than other models I reviewed. This radio is a great value for the money and I would recommend it to anyone.

This system has very good sound. I was going to get my daughter a Bose, but I liked the fact that this had alarm clock function. Good product for the value. Not cheaply made or junk at all.

Good radio, easy to install. The Pros: can change colors for display, however, display picture is the same (with Howard Stern looming in the background). Comes with remote, which can be handy, depending on where you install the radio. Easy to see display during the day and at night, even with polarized glasses (some reviewers stated that this is not so). For reference, The Xact one I had before this had a blue display which was close to impossible to see during the day, in particular with polarized sunglasses. The Cons: the FM transmitter is a lot weaker than the one from my previous radio (Xact). Activation: The legendary bad SIRIUS customer service sure was confirmed trying to activate this radio. I bought this as the replacement for my old radio which stopped working correctly. All I needed SIRIUS to do was deactivate my old radio and activate this one. It took about 1.5 hours to get this fairly straightforward task accomplished, mostly because I was put on hold several times for what felt forever. Best tip I can give: IF YOU BUY A NEW RADIO AND WANT TO REPLACE YOUR OLD ONE WITH IT, CHOOSE 'CANCEL SERVICE' WHEN YOU CALL SIRIUS. Otherwise, you will experience the same odyssey I went through (I chose "CHANGE SERVICE"): You first get transferred to Bangalore (I assume) where you are told that they CANNOT swap your two radios (i.e. cancel one, activate the other). They WILL tell you that you need to first activate your new one, which (of course) they are very happy to help you with. They will try to upsell you (no surprise) and tell you that you have to pay an activation fee. And since I had two radios, I got a discount(lasting for how long it takes to cancel the other radio). I explained in the beginning what I wanted to do, but of course they just go through their script. After the activation I requested to connect me to the 'department' to cancel my other radio. Of course I was put at the end of the waiting queue, after a few minutes my connection was lost, so I called again and chose the "CANCEL SERVICE" option. After about another 20 min of waiting, I was connected to the US service site and told the person that I needed to cancel service on a radio. After logging in to my account the person noticed that I had two radios, so I explained what I wanted to do. The good news is that the person got upset about how this was handled and talked to her supervisor (again I was put on hold). She then told my that my activation fee for the other radio would get reimbursed and that my old radio was cancelled. I hope that this radio will last a few years so I don't have to deal with their customer service any time soon...

UPDATE: as of today (12 Nov 2010) I still have not received my promised refund for the activation.

When I received the Sportster 5 I had already watched the install video from Sirius, read all the reviews on Amazon, so I was set to go. Turns out they were all right. The install was easier than I had feared. Sliding the wire behind the molding on the rear window of my Chrysler Sebring was quite easy, and the routing through the trunk was a breeze. However like one reviewer wrote, another five feet of wire would not break them. The Sebring is a mid size car, I could of easily used the extra wire so I didn't have to pull up the carpet, angle the wire and cut ahole in the carpet just so I could reach the receiver. I installed mine on my passenger vent in the center of the car, very easy to do. As someone else had brought up, at my viewing angle wearing my polarized sunglasses does distort the LCD screen. Now as far as the power connect goes,everyone hit that nail on the head, you will not be happy with this install. After going through the procedure of finding all my FM stations that were not being used I put my best five into the programming. One day it would come in clear, the next I would be looking for another preset, Very Annoying! I'm not all that good with cars, but I did have a manual on my car and found out how to remove the bezel around my radio so I could pull out the radio enough to access the antenna. I bought the FM adapter for $20 and was ready to install it when I realized the ends on this did not match my Chrysler radio. Off to a auto,stereo,mag wheel,customizing shop and $30 later I had the correct adapters. Now life is good. Sound and reception are great, love the music without the commercials, and its great having my favorite bands pop up on the display whenever they are being played, not to mention my sports ticker updates running on the bottom of the display. As long as the radio lasts, I couldn't be happier

Have been a satelitte radio owner since its inception. Currently use the sportster. Am a truck driver and not having to change channels every little while is great. The sportster is a nice dock style radio. Allows for multiple uses with optional docking kits. Highly recommended if you are looking for a satelite radio you can move from your house to car to deck or anywhere you have a docking station.

I've been a Sirius subscriber for about eight years. Got it initially for the NFL feed, but got hooked on the music and news stations. I only use it at home in a boombox system. Recently, my original unit (Orbiter version) died. Came to find that it had been discontinued. So time to upgrade...

So far, so good for the Sportster 5 I got this version because I could add the Best of XM package (O & A in the AM). I like the improved displays and the ability to change colors. Allows for a Sports Ticker within the display so scores can scroll (you control the teams). Remote is much less bulky than what I had (about 1" x 3") and, finally, allows you to control volume. This version also gives ability to save and rewind/replay about 60 minutes worth of programming.

Based on other reviews I've read, I'm concerned about the life expectancy of the receiver. People report issues after a year, so I'll reserve judgement. I've no intention of installing in my car, so not qualified to offer an opinion on that portion. Instructions to install are straight forward though.

Creative's Zen Stone line was meant to be the upgrade to the Zen nano, aka Muvo mini. Unfortunately, the 1GB Zen Stone had some quality issues. With the new 2GB Zen Stone Plus, Creative has tried to improve on previous models and compete with the smaller Sandisk Sansas.

I love the new Sandisk Sansa's. The Sansa Express has the advantage that you can plug it directly into your USB port without a cable. SanDisk Sansa Express 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) Still, the Creative Zen Stone feels nicer in the hand. It's not as sleek as the Sansa Express and doesn't have all the cool cache' of an iPod shuffle or iPod nano. But it is priced very attractively and has some NICE features. It's good for a starter, workout unit, or gift for a kid.

The Creative Zen Stone Plus is lighter than the competition, but is still larger than the new iPod Shuffle 2nd and 3rd generations. Unlike the shuffle, you can actually see your track names! The OLED screen is perfect for a player this size but does suck more power and shorten the battery life.

The controls are an improvement from the Zen nano days. While I didn't mind the toggle wheel, it has been replaced by intuitive buttons for the standard functions (select, up, down, play, pause, forward or reverse). There's a headphone jack, microphone hole, and a USB port.

Another change from the Zen nano days is the Lithium Ion battery, which gives you about 10 hours if your lucky. This is less versatile than the old battery operated unit, but more convenient.

What about sound? The sound is great, and it comes through in pure stereo. As usual, you will hear complaints about the earbuds. Most people replace their standard earbuds so I won't hold that against Creative.

The Zen Stone doesn't have larger storage options. For those needing more space, you will have to explore the Creative Zen, Sandisk Sansa or new iPod Nano. All of those units have higher price tags.

I just purchased this player and I already love it. I enjoy the stylish look and feel of the unit, but there's definitely more than meets the eye.

Sound: I recently sold my iPod Shuffle (2nd Gen) to buy this. Creative Labs seem to have figured out how to create better-sounding products. At any rate, I feel that this sounds richer and more clear.

Size/Storage: At 2 gb for $70, you can't go wrong. I have a running mix, and it fits easily on the Zen Stone Plus with plenty of room to spare. As for the size of the actual player, it's really tiny. I bought the keychain case for mine and just clip it through a belt loop or pocket. It's also extremely lightweight.

Durability: This is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. The iPod is a sturdier MP3 player. This is all plastic and feels somewhat cheaper. It can be easily scratched so spend the extra $12.99 to buy a case and you'll be alright.

Overall: All I can say is this is the perfect player for sports people. It gets about 9 hours of battery life, so 3 less than iPod shuffles, but it also has the OLED screen with stopwatch, radio, and voice recording features. The only one I really care about is the stopwatch, but they all work decently enough.

A great substitute for those looking for a little more for less money. Don't pay for some fancy name brand when you get just as good of quality at half the price. Not to mention you can simply use Windows Media Player, or drag-and-drop music into the folder without using any software. Creative makes it so simple!!!

This little unit is awesome. This is my third MP3 player and they keep getting smaller, cheaper and yet with more storage! This thing is so small and light I can slip it into my pocket and forget it's there. I use it primarily to listen to audio books as I work around the house and the battery charge lasts at least 5 hours (as much as I've listened to in one day.) Then I simply pause the story, plug it into my computer and it recharges in about an hour while I check email and such.

I highly recommend this player for audio books. I have not checked the sound quality for music files. The provided ear buds are suitable for my needs.

Don't really have much to say except that the Zen has worked exactly like it is supposed to. I've had no problems whatsoever and it is truly easy to use. I'm very content with this purchase. I only wish it came with a little clip-on. I know that you can purchase skins with clip-ons for it, but it would really have been nice if the item itself had it built in.

This was my first mp3, I bought it in white. For what you get for your money I think this is a good deal. Great size. Great deal for the money. But there is reason this is cheaper than the rest. I had trouble charging the zen-like many reveiwers do-but did eventually get it to charge so I was okay with it. In fact I loved this mp3 until I heard a friend's apple ipodthe sound quality was vastly superior to this! I do wish I had spent more to get and apple ipod just for the great difference in sound quality!

All in all, this is a great unit. It combines ipod docking station, radio with digital tuner and clock radio all together. Before I bought this, the potentially negative things I wish I had known are the following:

There are not a lot of buttons so it can be complicated to execute simple tasks. For example, to activate the alarm you have to scroll through all of the various alarm settings there is no simple on/off button for the alarm.

The remote control is really small. I worry that it will be lost or I'll fall asleep with it in bed and never find it in the sheets. It also takes a really tiny battery kind of a large watch battery. It's too new for me to comment on whether the battery life is good.

The remote snooze button is a really good feature if you don't want your docking station right next to your bed. Again, it has a small battery.

It's kind of hard to read the time on the display tougher than would be the case for a more traditional clock radio. And it's impossible if you (like me) have bought this unit because the remote snooze button allows you to keep the docking station in a more convenient place than beside the bed.

There are only 4 radio presets and I think you can scroll through the presets only with the remote control (not the main unit).

Sound quality is fine. Not as good as the Bose docking station but about what you would expect from a decent clock radio.

There are only three volume settings for the alarm low, medium and loud. I tried medium and it was quite loud so I've had to go with low. Fortunately, low is adquately loud, but you should know that there aren't a ton of volume choices to suit all tastes.

Although I really like having the features of this item, because of it is inconvenient to make on the fly changes to alarm settings and because of the difficulty reading the display I haven't got rid of my old clock radio (which I use just to read the time and if I want to set a one-off alarm).

Sorry for the long review, but this is the info I would have like to have known before making my purchase decision. I likely still would have picked this item, but with my eyes more open.

I also have the Logitech Pure-Fi Anytime Premium Alarm Clock, so I'll be comparing it with that. Although this speaker costs more, you get what you pay for. The sound is easily better in clarity, range, bass AND this alarm clock also has a lot more features.

First of all, I like how the AC is not a huge brick (I don't know what Logitech was thinking with their Pure-Fi!)

I also like that the radio antenna (it's the wired kind) can be removed from the speakers if you never plan on using it (for the Logitech, it's permanently attached. However, Logitech has AM radio that can be attached -but it's big and pretty ugly.)

If you plan on putting the speakers away from your bed, or fear hitting your iPod instead when waking up, the extra wireless snooze button will make a great addition.

However, the wireless snooze receiver must be attached on the back (it would have been nice if it was built-in). I thought the wireless snooze button was touch sensitive too, but it's actually just a plastic triggering the button on the bottom, so you'll need to have that on a flat surface (or press the button on the back).

* Actually displays the full date or the scrolling of song title.

* Button on the top is much more reasonably placed. (The Pure-Fi's button placement is a bit confusing)

* Save up to 4 favorite radio stations (only 3 with the Logitech, but you can select them through the speaker. The Altec requires the remote, so if you lose it, you're pretty much screwed.)

* Set two alarms and it will tell you exactly on the LCD.

* Wake up to the iPod, radio, or the clock alarm buzz (which can get really loud!)

If you set the sleep timer, the LCD displays "SWEET DREAMS... (and the minutes left until shutdown)". 5 minutes is the lowest that you can set it and up to 90 minutes. (to cancel the sleep timer, you have to power off and turn on again)

I think the "mood" feature, where you can choose from 17 different color backlight is pretty cool, but it would have been much cooler if it alternated by itself or flashed with the beat of the music!

I don't know what's the deal with all these alarm clock speakers, but it's not the most user-friendly to set the time, alarm, settings. You'll definitely have to sit down and read the manual and really get accustomed to it. To the set the time, it's actually a small button on the back of the speakers. For setting most of the options, you'll often have to be holding on to the button for a few seconds.

The buttons on the top are touch sensitive (or more like pressure sensitive), but that's another thing you have to get used to it. I think it could be a bit more sensitive to the touch. Sometimes you're holding down the button, but it's hard to tell if it's actually going to go through to the certain mode or not.

The remote could have used some tiny bumps or different feel on some buttons to be able to tell them apart in the dark.

Out of the Logitech Pure-Fi and iHome iH36, the Altec speakers definitely win in the amount of bass.

It's not too intuitive. Lots of holding buttons to set options. In other words, this clock is definitely not for your grandma (unless you want to constantly help her out on how to set things. Sometimes you'll have to refer back to the manual).

Need to point the remote directly at the remote sensor.

Generic remote.

Touch sensitive could be more sensitive.

Display will not be easy to read from across the room.

FM station presets only accessible through remote (no buttons on the actual speaker!)

No "mood" (light) button on the remote!

Can't set sleep timer/alarm through remote.

Nevertheless, this is a solid 4-star speaker. However, if sound is your priority then, you really should be looking for speakers that doesn't have all the fancy extra stuff like radio/alarm.

If you're really picky with sound, you're just not going to get that full surround sound depth with speakers that only have two drivers and only 5" or so apart. However, that being said, these speakers sound pretty good for what it is. I can say that it sounds better than Logitech's Pure-Fi Anytime Alarm speakers. I think the bass is pretty strong for its size.

As long as if you're not expecting 5.1 surround sound-like miracle, you'll be quite pleased with these speakers. If you're looking for an alarm clock for the iPod, these speakers are definitely worth checking out. Altec Lansing is a reputable speaker brand too.

This is a fine unit. It does everything advertised and does it well. The sound quality is fine, the production of the unit is sleek and attractive. The mood lighting works as advertised and has lots of colors. The remote works fine.

I guess I do have to point out the fact that there are other ipod clock radio's on amazon that are cheaper and better. Sony and iHome both have superb units that have better features and better sound that this one. If altec drops the price on this to below $99, then I would say its a much better bargain.

The mood lighting is surprisingly fun & my kids love it. The remote snooze however, seemed very over designed and I didn't even bother with it. I just don't know why I'd want a wireless snooze remote, isn't the point of an alarm to get your butt up in the morning? A wireless snooze seems, over kill, assuming most people will keep this bedside anyway?

I previously said this didn't work well with the iphone. Maybe I needed to restart the iphone but the next day and since then it has worked great with the iphone. The remote controls it nicely, but yes it is susceptible to cell phone noise but thats why its not rated for the iphone.

I was looking to purchase a speaker/docking station for my sister for Christmas but was having a hard time finding one that was compatible with the new 5th generation Nano. I purchased this from an alternate Warehouse Store and it is compatible with the Nano. The sound is great and is fairly easy to use from what I could tell. I'm mainly posting this to those doing the same search I am!

First, I'm always skeptical of reviewers that don't state whether they have a relationship with either the manufacturer or product being reviewed or a competing manufacturer. So, let me say I have no relationship with Altec Lansing, or any other manufacturer of any kind. I bought this ipod player/clock for my college-aged daughter for Christmas, after reading internet reviews. Unwrapping it today, I was not disappointed. My daughter, who had not seen it previously, thought it was "cool." The unit has plenty of volume and pleasant sound without distortion. Its not going to replace a home audio system, but its more than adequate for a dorm or bedroom application. The clock display is not the biggest in the ipod/clock market, but the display is plenty bright (and adjustable) even in bright light. The display is clearly readable from at least 15 ft. away. The operating "buttons" on the top of the unit are touch activated and work smoothly. The unit comes with a small remote that uses a lithium battery, and works well from at least 15 ft. The unit also comes with a wireless snooze remote that allows one to activate the normal snooze function found on clocks, as well as to pause the music or turn the unit off. There are 2 separate alarms that can be programed for everyday, weekdays, once, etc. It comes with four ipod adapters, but frankly I don't think they are necessary or really secure the ipod any better. I used ipod nanos gen 1 & 2 with no problems. An FM antenna that plugs into the back is included, and the stations in my area were easily located and sounded as good if not better than the ipod. The mood glow function, which allows for a selectable color to be displayed out the back of the unit, worked but was not terribly impressive. From a seated position, and viewing the unit head-on the color was nearly impossible to see because it is displayed on the rear-side of the unit. No big deal, I didn't buy the thing for the mood glow.

I was shopping for a projection clock for a while, reading reviews, etc. But then I got this one, which had no reviews. Why? It was twice cheaper, and I assumed it couldn't be twice worse.

So far I haven't been mistaken. For $12 you get 2 clocks and an alarm radio. Not bad.

Notes:

1. Like many other projection clocks out there, the projection clock is independent from the one on the unit display, so you need to set both. It seems ridiculous, but could be a feature, if for some reason you need two different times set.

2. The projection clock is more flexible in settings. You can have 12 or 24-hour style of time display and have it alternate between time and date, if you'd like. Personally, I find alternation flashing annoying, and I don't really need to be reminded of the date every 3 seconds or so. The main unit clock only shows time and only 12 am/pm style.

3. The projection image is a little weak, but good for full darkness. You can't see it, if you have a night lamp on. But then there's the main unit screen. On the plus side, the image is not disturbingly bright at night.

4. Maybe it's my locality, but AM reception is way more clear than FM. I could not get any reasonable reception from FM at all.

5. There's a battery back up, and the projector image stays on constantly (or could be switched off entirely).

6. The setting of the time(s) is not very intuitive. I had to look at the instructions.

I haven't tried alarm.

In summary, this is a great deal for the money.

I had wanted a projection clock for quite some time. I decided on this one after reading the reviews. I didn't need anything fancy; I only wanted to be able to look at the ceiling in the middle of the night to see the time. Admittedly, I missed the one important line the "technical details" section: "Projects time on wall at the touch of a button". The projection only works after hitting the snooze button, then it fades to off in 5 seconds. If I'm going to turn over to hit the snooze button to see the time on the wall/ceiling, it defeats the purpose of having the projection feature. Now we just have an extra clock/radio in the house.....I'm not paying shipping to return it.

I bought this so that I can tell the time when lying down in bed and look up at the ceiling. But for that purpose it does not do a good job. The projection light is very weak and the numbers do not show very well at more than 5 feet. There is a focus ring on the side for refocusing the beam but that did not help much.

And oh one more thing. You have to set the clock up two times. Once for the main clock and then again for the projection. They seem to be two different clocks which was kind of weird.

I purchased this to replace an Oregon Scientific projection alarm clock. My projection was losing digits, and generally becoming less and less useful.

I am sorry to have done so.

The clock I received was VERY clearly used, and used well. The case was scratched and gouged, and it even had the marks from a screwdriver where someone tried to open the case.

I was ticked about that, but determined to at least see if I liked it the replace or return conundrum. So, I plugged it in, and set the alarm... which I barely heard. I couldn't tune in a station very well, but that was my only hope for an audible alarm, and it failed.

I will allow that since mine was SO beat up, it could have been broken, but I was so fed up with the whole ordeal I just didn't care anymore. The saddest part, for me anyway, is that I purchased it from Amazon.comnot some other joker listing his, but Amazon itself. The only nice part is I got free shipping out, and I don't think I had to eat anything for the return trip.

All in all, steer clear on this monster.

I bought this for a Chinese Christmas gift and fortunately I got it. I have been wanting a projection clock. This is the perfect projection clock. I was afraid it might project too small on the ceiling or too bright. I had always had to raise up in bed to see over my husband to be able to see what time it was. Not anymore. I just look up at the ceiling and find out what time it is. I don't use the radio alarm clock so I can't speak about that but I absolutely love the projection clock.
