Honeywell TN924W Weather Information Station, Black

Honeywell TN924W Weather Information Station, BlackI wanted to write my own review of the Honeywell TN924W after reading the reviews here. I agree with almost all of the statements here, both pro and con. But most of the complaints are subjective, and what kills the unit for some might be acceptable for others.

Although the unit can display lots of information, it can only display a few pieces of data at a time. The buttons to cycle through the different types of data are inconveniently located on the back of the unit. While not ideal, you will get used to the "touch and feel" system after awhile. However, this precludes mounting the unit on a wall using the included bracket. This is a rather bad oversight, in my opinion.

The station will drop the signal from the remote sensors, too. This is an annoyance, but an easy fix once you learn how to force the unit to search for signals (Just hold down the "down" button on the back for a few seconds). Unfortunately, the included manual is pretty bad and not much help in finding solutions for the quirks of the Honeywell. I downloaded an updated PDF version from the Honeywell website that is much better.

One reviewer stated that the backlight is too bright. The backlight can be turned on, off, or set on automatic. If you find it to be too bright, you can always turn it off.

The Honeywell TN924W is the only weather station I have ever owned or am familiar with, so I cannot compare it to anything else. While not perfect, I am very happy with mine. I recently received the Weather View 32 software for uploading my weather data to my personal website, Weather Underground, and CWOP. It took some figuring out, but everything is up and running wonderfully.

The Honeywell TN924W is an impressive little unit, with lots of features and tons of potential. But it is not without its quirks. Remember that it is a piece of technical scientific equipment. If you don't have the patience to learn the unit and work through a few minor issues, you could very well become frustrated. Don't expect it to work perfectly right out of the box. You need to go through a somewhat lengthy setup process, and you need to do some research (find your latitude, longitude, and elevation) to complete the setup.

This is the first complete weather station that offers the s.a.m.e noaa weather radio reports. This feature sounds fine and works once you set it up, but has some design flaws. You can not make the alarm part of the radio any softer although you can turn the alarm and voice off entirely if you wish to. However, they included a volume for the voice. The problem is that even the voice being set to the lowest level in my case is still too loud. The alarm also goes off whether you set it to voice mode or not so you either have to turn it off or keep them both on.

As far as th weather station goes it gives all the features of other weather stations minus the UV light. One other note is that they removed the remote that the previous version had and I am not sure what made them do this as all the buttons are in the back of the base unit so the remote would have made it easier to operate all the functions the weather station has to offer.

It took an hour or so to mount the outdoor instruments and they immeadiatly started communicating with the base unit and all seem accurate enough. I am however still wondering about the built in barometer as I have seen the barometer change too rapidly so I am not sure if this flaw exists in all the base units. Honeywell said that they are shipping another base unit so I will have to see if the same problem exists.

There are some other features like a sensor light that works well and the included simplistic software package for a USB connection to a computer so you can monitor the weather records.

It is still nice to see that the main selling point of this weather station being the weather radio in this case works if you can live with its flaws. Honeywell would have the perfect weather tool if they would redesign some things and fix other things with the weather station.

sorry to report that this product needs help...the buttons on the back are very inconvenient because they do not allow you to see the information on the front as you meander trying to reach the correct program...one mistake and you start all over and there are times you are attempting to receive information and before you realize it you have touched a button that has put you into a different setting. also the anometer range is only 100 feet at best while the site states 300 feet...regretfully it was returned...amazon is really great in this respect.

UPDATED REVIEW:

Unit stopped receiving signals from both the ANEMOMETER and outdoor TEMP/HUMIDITY; I would reset them and they would drop off again in a few days. As well weather radio stop functioning today. I no longer recommend this product to anyone. The unit worked OK for about 5 months then it just started flaking out. Sensors drop outs, screen glitches, and finally the weather radio just stopped working. It's obvious from all of the reviews this isn't a quality unit.

Don't waste your money on this piece of junk. The base station will not stay connected with the sensors even though the thermo-hygrometer sensor is less than 5 feet away. Technical support is worthless. Their support consists of asking if you have changed the batteries. They finally sent a new base unit which worked for about 5 days before losing contact. The back light on the display is too bright to have in a room where you might want to sleep. The buttons for programing and changing the display screen are on the back and very hard to use since you can't see them and the display at the same time.

Pac Audio Mazda Radio Replacement Interface With Navigation Outputs

Pac Audio Mazda Radio Replacement Interface With Navigation Outputs
  • Radio Replacement Interface With Built In Pre-Programmed Steering Wheel Control Retention and Navigation Outputs
  • Pre-programmed retention of Steering Wheels Controls (SWC)
  • Retains Bose digital and premium audio systems
  • In vehicle menu using the OE LCD and SWC
  • Allows the clock to be set without having to plug in the OE radio

I chose this interace over others because the Mazda CX-9 has a supposed issue with the A/C not working using other harnesses. I found details on it through multiple Mazda forums and people suggested this unit or another from a UK company called Connects2. I found mention that this one surpassed the others by not only interfacing with the volume, mode, & seek buttons on the steering wheel, but also the blue tooth phone controls. So far it has worked well with all but the voice control button on the steering wheel..

Wave® Radio III -Graphite Gray

Wave® Radio III -Graphite Gray
  • Lifelike sound from Bose® waveguide speaker technology
  • Plays a wealth of music sources: FM/AM radio-plus your iPod®, smartphone, computer, tablet or Bluetooth® device with optional accessories
  • Includes advanced FM/AM tuner; headphone jack; remote; clock
  • Now with: Touch-top on/off/snooze controls; dual independent alarms; displayed song/artist info

Pros----robust and very well built piece of equipment. Sonic quality is excellent. Very capable of producing that room filling sound that Bose loves to brag about. Several nice features such the automatically dimming display when it is lights out time. Also when one turns on the unit the volume will gradually increase to whatever the last level was. In other words one is not blasted away. AUX input. I use it quite often with a Sirius Stratus 6 Satellite radio/remote and the Sirius Home docking station. Excellent sound! Bose remote control easy to use but ,,,,,see below!

Cons--a bit pricey, weak FM reception by using the AC line cord as an antenna, cheap on Bose's part for NOT supplying a dipole antenna. C'mom BOSE!!! Maybe the AC linecord works great as an FM antenna in some areas but not out here in the county in KY!! The biggest con is the remote control. It controls everything with the the exception of touching the top to turn on/off, ALL functions are contained in the remote. No control panel on the unit itself. Keep a spare remote just in case. For these reasons I have to give it 3 stars. Bose went high tech on one end and cheaped it out on the other.

Addendum---the parents have one of the first Wave Radios that came out many years ago and it is still playing and performing admirably. Some engineering changes over the years as one would expect. The III is physically larger due to the re-engineering of the waveguides. And the old unit doesn't require a remote since all the controls are in a panel on top of the unit. The longevity is there!! Same scheisty FM reception necessitating an external antenna.

I got this radio for work. There is a lot of work noise and this radio cuts though it very well and no need to turn it up to loud to hear it. There is also no bass control to be turned up and distort the sound. A lot of radios have a hard time to get good reception in the building, this one works very well. I did get the external antenna but I do not think I needed it.

A bit pricey for a radio, good sound, but they really need to come down off the $$$. I guess if you like paying for a name then this is it.

We love this radio. It gives excellent sound quality and is very easy to setup. The sound projects beautifully through the room.

2 GB FLASH PLAYER

2 GB FLASH PLAYERThis MP3 player is quite neat and useful...but that only lasted for a month or 2 because it scratches way too easy. The interface is great and the sound is awesome. It does get slugish if too many songs are in its memory. All in all, mine worked for about 9 months before it decided to stop working. I sent it in to RCA 2 months ago and still am waiting for some type of response from them. So if you are looking for an MP3 player that will stay looking nice and have a long lifespan....then this one is not it (especially at over $100).

I used the CD player only half a dozen times and now the CD tray will no longer open\close via the function button. Futhermore, CDs no longer play even when you close the tray by hand. The sound from radio and Ipod is quite decent. The speaker cables are very loosely connected so that when you move the unit they come out. I value this unit at $50 and not a $100.

  • Digital AM/FM radio
  • Digital clock with 2 independent alarms and snooze/sleep timers, Wake up to your iPod, radio, or buzzer

There are some things I really like about this clock, and some things that really annoy me.

First the annoying things:

1) The *#&% scroll wheels. MESSAGE TO ALL MANUFACTURERS: Just because Apple has a scroll wheel doesn't mean you have to as well. They are not the be all and end all of UI devices. They work for the iPod because you hold it in your hand and you can navigate with your thumb. For an alarm clock this is not the case and (at least for me) they tend to be clunky and difficult to use. I would have gotten a clock without them, but I couldn't find one in my price range that also had good reviews.

2) The Backlight. I actually saw this issue in another review and bought the clock anyway. The problem is that the backlight is either on or it's off. Though there are ostensibly three dimmer modes, they do absolutely nothing that I can tell. When it's on, it's brighter than your desk lamp, and when it's off you can't see the screen in the dark. I keep it off, but then if I want to know what time it is in the middle of the night, I have to reach over to the clock and hit the dimmer switch.

3)The alarm volume is the same as the music volume. This is annoying if I want to listen to music as I go to sleep because when I'm trying to sleep I want the music quiet, but unless I somehow turn up the volume in my sleep, the alarm will be just as quiet in the morning. Pretty poor design, there.

Things I like:

1) There's a power button. I was really stoked when I saw this because my old iPod clock had absolutely no way to turn off the iPod/Radio/Aux Jack short of hitting the sleep button until the sleep timer hit zero.

2) With the volume up the alarm is loud. Really loud. I don't know if my neighbors appreciate that as much as I do, but at least it wakes me up in the morning. Most of the time.

3) There's a nap function. Enough said.

4) It does what it's supposed to and does it reasonably well. The sound is good, and I can hear it from across my apartment if I want to listen to podcasts while I do housework.

Overall, I'm happy with this iPod dock alarm clock. It works with a minimum of fuss, and for it's price it's a pretty good piece of equipment.

I saw another review of this clock that indicated the backlighting (neon blue) was too bright. I figured this was a small complaint I could live with -but I was wrong. Even with the dimmer option engaged the blue light is almost bright enough to use for reading -think 1970's disco light without the flashing. If you keep the clock away from the bed it is probably not such a problem. While interesting to see my wife in such light, it is not so good for sleeping. Otherwise the clock performs relatively well but this single aspect is enough for me to send it back.

I ordered this for my spacious office, everyone would love a bose, but I just didn't need all of THAT! I just wanted something I could listen to the radio on & also my ipod which is a 3rd Generation Nano which fit nicely. I am loving it. Its shiny and looks sytlish. The light does not bother me, since its my office it has 3 settings bright blue, blue & off. The sound quality is great with both ipod & radio. It has a great pointed sound at my desk that doesn't overflow into other areas, but if you TURN IT UP you can get a great radius & not lose sound quality. It also comes with a line out just in case your ipod didn't fit, but the slot looks large enough to handle other versions. I am satisfied.

I did not find the dials objectionable & was able to figure out the clock/ipod/radio functions without reading the manual. Set up took all of 2 minutes, mostly trying to find a plug ;]

I read in another review that it would be helpful to have a remote. I do not need one as I can reach it from where I sit to write this review but the description says it comes with one. It does not.

I have been searching for a good ipod alarm clock system for my dorm room and was slightly apprehensive of this product given the low price as compared to so many others. But it just arrived today and its amazing. The sound quality is above average, which is excellent considering its under 40 bucks! It has two alarms which are very useful, and has a great radio reception. The backlight can be dimmed down so it is nice. The only con is a remote would have made this perfect

Display light is too bright even with dimmer use and difficult to read. Ipod dock works fine and sound is good.
