My daughter loves this clock, especially because the singing and the nightlight that projects stars onto the ceiling (which is an unusable feature now). As a parent, I feel differently. The material is cheap, the music is low quality making it hard to understand the words, and we have yet to find a fm or am station it will pick up. There is not an auto off for the projection light and ours died out after 4 months. I could not find a way to get to the light bulb to change it, so my husband worked on it. He had to take out all the electronics in order to reach the light, which is fiber optic encased in a housing unit that does not come apart, so the light is unchangeable. I am very disappointed as the music and lights were the main selling point of this unit.

Just bought this at Target and it is a really cute little alarm clock. The stars on the ceiling are really cuteI just wish it had an auto off button for the stars because I can see the bulb burning out pretty quick if it is left on all night. You can wake up by radio, buzzer or a princess song and voice. I have no problem getting the AM/FM to work. It is a little annoying that it is a turn dial for the radio stations and not digital. I can't tell what station I have it on. My daughter is only 6 so she doesn't need to wake up to the radio anyway. I think it is really cute. It is smaller than it looks in the picture which is a good thing.

This Disney Princess Alarm Clock Radio is absolutely adorable and has some neat features. It's a cute lil alarm clock radio. It isn't a big expensive boom box or mp3 player, no. But it's perfect for kids. You don't have to have fancy smancy technology to use your imagination and be a Princess who has her own castle of asmusement.

After searching several sites for a child's bedside table clock, I finally found this pink castle radio alarm clock on Amazon.com. It is adorable! My daughter loves it, particularly because it not only projects stars on the ceiling but she can also listen to Cinderella singing or the AM/FM radio. She was formerly scared of the dark, but now she is quite comfortable to stay in bed listening to pretty music and watching the stars at night.

For those who have commented that it is a cheap plastic product, I rebutt that this clock is solid and sturdy -perfect for a child! If you wanted an expensive clock for your little angel's bedside table, then you would not be looking at a pink castle clock to begin with!

This castle clock is a nice size and is definitely a great value.

I just bought this clock for my Granddaughter's birthday on August 11th. She is turning 6 and is into "everything princess". Seems that just last weeek it was "Spongebob". When I saw this item displayed at our local military exchange, I knew what I was buying for her. The idea of a child's alarm clock with all these fatures (AM radio, FM radio, wake to vocal readings from some of the Disney princess tales and the star projection on the ceiling) was so cool. I am so glad that I decided to open the box when I got home and test it out. First of all, the feel of the buttons and controls is beyond flimsy. I finally got an AM radio station tuned in by holding the clock in my hand and squiizing fairly hard on the tuner side of the clock. I can't believe the tuner is one if those cheesy wheel tuners where the station numbers are printed on the wheel itself. I mean, come on, we have single chip digital tuning that costs pennies. The ceiling projected "stars" is a nice touch and I can see my granddaughter using it as a nightlite and a gazxing point to drift off to sleep. I didn't even get to the FM tuner because I knew it was going to be not much better than the AM section. This company has taken an idea that could have made quite a stur in the preteen princess loving demographic but seems to have chosen to find the cheapest components out there to make this a less than satisfying trip into the Enchanted Forest. I will be returning the clock radio today and searching for something of better quality.

Moshi Voice Activated Alarm Clock

Pros: First, I want to say, once set, it's great for someone who just wants to say "Time" and hear it, and the unit looks great. Cons:1) SETTING THE TIME WAS DIFFICULT. (I bought the regular full-size Moshi.) I speak clearly and distinctly, and there were no other sounds in the room. I said "10:20 a.m." and Moshi kept setting various times, like "6:04" which sounds nothing like 10:20. On the 12th try, Moshi set the correct time, and I said well, at least now that the time is set, it'll be a long time before I have to go through that again...but as I pushed it back further on the table, the plug fell out again, and had to re-set the time; but this time, I put the BATTERIES IN FIRST, and after another 15 tries, and 6 plug fall-outs, the time was set, and no matter how many times the back plug fell out, the batteries kept the time. Hallelujah! 2)THE LITTLE PLUG IN THE BACK FALLS OUT CONSTANTLY, it just doesn't click in and hold in place. This led to the discovery of a 3rd problem: 3) THE VOICE RECOGNITION DOESN'T WORK AT ALL IF IT'S ON BATTERY ALONE. I noticed that each time the cord fell out so easily, Moshi said "Voice Trigger Mode has been DISABLED." And when plugged back in, Moshi immediately announces, "Voice Trigger Mode is ENABLED." Apparently, when the plug is out, it still keeps the time with the batteries, but it can't operate the voice recognition. Sure enough, the directions confirm this. So, if you have the plug-falling-out problem, you better duct-tape it into the back like I did if you want to use the voice trigger mode.

(note: there is a Mini-Moshi travel size that works on battery onlyso I guess it operates on Touch-Trigger only). 4) TOUCH TRIGGER IS NOT SENSITIVE The Touch mode on the center top of the display sometimes works after a series of light touches (waiting for response after each touch), but most times you have to keep pressing it rather strongly, (again waiting for response after each press); ... usually only a hard press works, but since I figure this would break it fairly quickly, I opt to keep it plugged in and use the voice trigger mode only.

I bought this for my mother age 90 who can't see clocks (macular degeneration), and so after explaining she should just say "Hello Moshi" and when it lights up green and says "Command Please" all she has to do is say "Time" and the voice is loud and clear with the time. Works great this way, so I'm happy with it. Since the touch mode really doesn't really work well, I didn't even tell her about it. (Can't comment on Alarm function, we don't need it).

So, Tips: Put Batteries in First before setting time, etc.

Moshi can only hear you when it is green (when it's dark, it's only listening for "Hello, Moshi"; You must say `Hello Moshi" before asking it anything. You can stop Moshi from talking and go back to rest by saying "Cancel." To stop the night light from cycling colors and stay on one, there's a switch in the back for "Multi" or "single" color. When it's plugged in and set to IVR on the back, the unit will accept both Voice (IVR) or Touch triggers, but voice-command trigger only works when plugged in.

Still, I think it does a good job in showing you more about how the Moshi alarm clock works. This is a great clock if you want to take the time to work with it. It's really, really easy to set up, but using it takes a bit of finagling. In this video, I demonstrate some of the features of the Moshi clock. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get Moshi to understand. Also, in order to turn off the alarm with your voice, you must speak the command in between the alarm sounds. This is really hard to do when you're half asleep. It is easier to just use the alternative buttons, which are on the back in an awkward place and impossible to see without a flashlight. It's a great little clock, but does have some problems.

The reason for the variability in the reviews is that not all clocks work well; there are apparently quality control issues. You may have to return your clock and exchange it for another. One of our functions didn't work but we didn't need it so we kept the clock anyway.

Even though I give Moshi only three stars (because it is new technology and not what an alarm clock should be--you need to be able to turn it off easily, for example) I still enjoy it and am glad I bought it.

Recommended for people who can work with a temperamental alarm clock in exchange for the voice technology.

Cripes.... I bought this clock for my BF because he is obsessive about triple and quadruple checking his alarm set (drives me NUTS).. so a clock you could talk to and that actually SAYS the time to you seemed perfect. And it was... at first. Look, this product is a fantastic idea but it really, really, really needs to go back to the drawing board.

1. The touch sensitivity of this thing is iffy, at best. Sometimes it will say the desired "Command Please" so that you can go about your business of setting the clock, but all too often it squawks (quite loudly) the date, time, and temperature at you instead. Then you sigh and try again... often several more times. Sure, you can say "Hello Moshi".... but sometimes you don't feel like saying "Hello" to an inanimate object and just want the touch feature to frigging work!

2. The clock is not illuminated unless you turn on the "nightlight". Yea... that light is as subtle as a brick in the face. I am someone that NEEDS a light on at night and I cannot sleep with the Moshi light on. So someone suggested to just "turn it around"... yea well, that defeats the purpose doesn't it? Still can't see the clock. And believe me you DON'T want that clock talking to you in the wee hours of the night. Which leads me directly to....

3. This thing is frigging LOUD. Fantastically loud. The voice is cool and fun at first because, hey, you have a talking alarm clock! How cool is that?! It isn't. The thing practically shouts at you in a decidedly UNsoothing voice. You'd think they would have taken it down a couple of notches and had a Buddhist monk do the voice in a kind and soothing manner. Instead they get a slightly impatient sounding woman to shout things. All right, that's a bit of an exaggeration... but it IS loud.

4. Don't get me started on the alarm sounds. They are all precisely programmed to infuriate. Sure, all alarm clocks suck because they are doing a job you don't want them to do... wake you up. However, the Moshi somehow makes me angry when it goes off in the morning no matter which alarm sound we choose (there are three of them). To add insult to injury, when you smack the clock to make it snooze it actually says (in its shouty voice) "SNOOZE TIME SET FOR 9 MINUTES!" Well, that just about ruins my snooze time doesn't it? You can do this three times before it deigns to actually turn the alarm off. I guess for those of you trying to drop your snooze habit this might be good. I, for one, LIKE my snooze habit!

5. You actually have to slide a tiny button on the back to disable the alarm... if you forget to do this and go to bed on a Friday night with plans to sleep in... guess what? Your alarm is still set and will proceed to shout at you in the morning. Of course, the alternative to that is forgetting to slide the button on Sunday night... oh, you can still talk to the bloody thing and set your alarm but if the button isn't in the correct position..well... you're late for work on Monday.

In short, this thing is beyond annoying when it does what you want it to and when it glitches out you'll want to take it out into a field and smash it with a bat.

This morning my boyfriend looked at me and said, "Honey, I love you. But I HATE this alarm clock!". Meaning, he felt bad because it was a present from me. I gave him permission to terminate Moshi.

We are both relieved.

I really think this is a great clock and it is amazing how well it works. I agree with others, it should be enhanced to control the night light colors and volume, but it is a very good buy and I am happy with my purchase.

This is a great little clock radio. Very compact. It is extremely easy to set. I love being able to go backwards and forwards for each hour or minute function. The three backlight levels are terrific. The power cord is detachable, which tells me it will run fine on batteries, but have not done that yet. The sound of the radio is great, but what do you expect from a Sony! The only down side to this clock radio is that the radio only plays for 30 minutes. I guess I will have to set Alarm B as well!

I had a Sony Dream machine for at least 15 yrs. I liked it because I could take it anywhere since it ran on batteries. It finally died. I purchased this to replace it and believe me I loved that radio. This radio has almost taken its place. I use it on AC at home but it works just as well on DC. Really like this clock radio, pretty much has everything I need. It is small, runs on AC or batteries, and along with the radio, has 3 different chime type alarms. You can set the snooze from 10 to 60 min, it has a nap timer to wake you up at intervals up to 2 hours, and a sleep timer for up to 90 min if you want to fall asleep with the radio on. I find the radio sounds a bit tinny, but not surprising for the size, it does sound clear though. Also adjustable backlight setting is nice and the Daylight time setting makes a lot of sense.

I knew within 10 minutes of owning this clock that it would soon be on its way back. For starters, when you read this clock is compact, BELIEVE IT; it is roughly softball size. Next, the LCD display is fine if you're looking at it from above eye-level. At eye-level, the display is only about 25% visible at best and a foot or two below eye-level it completely disappears, so if you're giving this clock a home on a headboard, forget it. Finally, the buttons for shutting off the alarms are way too close to the snooze button (pictured, they are the ones just below and right and left of the snooze.) I wanted this clock for two reasons: extendable snooze and full battery back-up, which it has, but the reasons I now don't want it easily outweigh the latter.

I like the fact that I can now set the alarm for 2 different times since I get up at different times during the week. However, the clock is actually too small. I thought it was going to be a little bit bigger. Also, the display is too bright. I wear glasses and squint at night to see the clock. It is harder to see than the old clock I had which was a black background with the time being displayed in yellow.

I'm not sure if the previous reviewer set up the SAME technology (weather reporting) settings correctly. You have to call in and get YOUR specific codes for your counties to set it up. You will also need to enter what "weather emergencies" you want the alarms to go off for flash flooding, blizzard warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, etc.

Anyway, we LOVE our All-Alert clock radio. With the severe weather we've had this summer in Iowa, we wanted to be sure that something would wake us up in a tornado warning to take the kids downstairs. This has done that twice... which is well worth the money I spent. Once, I was watching our local weather newscast (severe weather was in counties west of us and was headed our way) and the meteorologist's weather alert "buzzer" in his weather room went off at the EXACT same time as this All-Alert radio, so I know that we are getting severe weather alerts when the meteorologists are.

This is a great device and potential life-saver. It's constantly out of stock at our local Super Target and it's a high-reorder item there. I like that it is a combined alarm clock it simply replaced our existing bedroom alarm clock without adding another electronic device/cords to the bedroom. I'd definitely buy it again!!

This radio arrived poorly packaged, which probably had something to do with the fact that the LCD display did not function properly. Some of the fields did not display at all, and the ones that did were not that easy to view. Viewing angle is critical for this display, and if you are looking at the display on the same level, the display is not clear. If you are looking downward at the display, you can see it much better. Unfortunately, if you put this on your nightstand, you're probably looking straight at the clock which means a poor display. I returned this clock radio and got the MIDLAND WR300 Weather Radio for $45 and I was very pleased with the upgrade. I am glad I didn't get stuck with this radio, and for a few dollars more the Midland is a much better value.

Received my radio a promised. Takes about 5 min to set up, and that includes the call to NOAA to get your local area weather code. Very easy and intuitive set up. Very well thought out design, user friendly. I was suprised that it has an extendable antenea (but it also comes with a small wire antenea for those who prefer). AM reception is decent, FM is OK. Sound quality is well...kinda what you'd expect from a clock radio.. Then again, I realized I wasn't buying a stereo.. I think this will serve it early warning purpose well and I am happy with the product. I recommend and am considering buying several of these for Holiday gifts for my loved ones...

I was looking for a replacement to my 8-year-old (annoying beep, beep) alarm clock. I also wanted to get speakers for my laptop. So, I thought, let's get an all-in-one. I was originally going to get the iHome IH9 Alarm Clock for iPod (Black), because of the iPod attachment. However, I chose this product over it because 1) you can put the speakers anywhere, 2) it has better sound (in my opinion), 3) you can also plug in a USB stick or other peripheral that has MP3 or WMA files. It's sound is good for something so small, and even has a built-in subwoofer for bass, and for added bass has "Dynamic Bass Boost" which has great response. Remote control works good, as does the iPod dock, and the USB drive. The FM tuner doesn't work that well for me, then again, I didn't buy it for that. Has an alarm and sleep function, both are handy. When the alarm goes off, the music turns on gradually to a max of 12, which is pretty loud. So if you're one of those people that, to wake up, one must also have to wake the dead, I recommend putting war sounds on your iPod for this purpose. Keeps track of time pretty well, a concern since one of the reviewers for the aforementioned product mentioned that on his review (of the iHome). Good sound, good looks, that's what you're looking at. If you can pay the price, this is a good 2.1 solution. I plan on keeping mine around for a long time. Thank you for checking this review. Overall, this is a nice system that works fairly well and sounds decent. It's operating limitations hold it back from being very good or great.

This system offers four "modes" of operation:

1. iPod docking/charging station with limited operation via the Philips remote.

2. FM Radio with digital tuning, and 20 presets.

3. MP3/WMA audo from a USB Mass Storage Device (USB drive).

4. Alarm Clock play audio from one of three sources (FM, iPod, MP3 on USB drive).

I suspect most people will be interested in this system for the iPod docking feature (at this price point). Philips supplies four different adapters [see note 1] that allow docking of all versions of iPod. Once docked, the system charges your iPod.

It offers only limited control of an iPod via the supplied remote; you CAN NOT traverse iPod menus using the remote. You can only play/skip/goto-start/goto-end a playlist (or play mode, such as playing everything by a certain artist), and that you must select from the iPod menus directly via the iPod controls.

This limitation is disappointing. It would be nice to be able to more fully control a docked iPod. But, for less than $100 (and with its other qualities) it is still a good product.

Sound quality is pretty good for such a small system. It has sufficient power to blast a medium-sized room, and the sound is pretty clean and crisp (I'm no audiophile though). Base is, oddly enough, its only weakness though not in the way you might expect. There are only two modes normal and Base Boost. In the normal (non Base Boost) play mode base is a little weak. In Base Boost, base is generally a little too pronounced for me when I'm right in front of the unit (especially since it is located in a shelving space that seems to amplify the base), but sounds very good when further away.

The FM radio is pretty decent, with good sensitivity and selectivity. It relies though on having an external antenna (75 Ohm coaxial connector on back, like many older TVs had). Though all initial product information, including that packaged with the system, indicates that a wire antenna is included IT ISN'T![note 1] For the last few weeks we've been able to get by using a simple twin-core wire antenna from a mini-stereo this system replaced (just wire that barely makes contact with the antenna connector).

We have not yet played MP3 or non-DRM WMA files from a USB drive, but this is one of the DC 199's features that helped me decide to purchase this system. As far as I know this is the only system that offers this. With unprotected MP3 music becoming more available via iTunes and other sources, this feature is one we are likely to use more and more.

The clock/alarm clock feature might be useful for some. We don't use it. As far as we can tell, it works as one would expect.

Pros:

iPod docking for every type (I think).

iPod play control using supplied IR remote.

Sound from satellite/sub-woofer design is generally rich and clear.

FM radio discrimination/selectivity and sensitivity is pretty good.

Playing MP3 files on USB disks is kinda nice.

Inexpensive as iPod docking/powered speaker systems go.

Cons:

Limitations on iPod play control using supplied IR remote.

On/off Base emphasis more gradual base emphasis would have been much better.

FM receiver not much use without external antenna, which isn't included.

My conclusion: For the money this system is a good deal if you want to be able to listen to both iPod playback AND FM radio, or if you download music onto your computer and want to listen to it somewhere else in the house (from a USB drive).

Notes:

[1] All information I could find on this system before Christmas, including the User's Manual obtained from Philips' web site, indicated that an external wire antenna and eight iPod adapters were included in the DC 199/37B package. There was no antenna and only four adapters in the box. The distributor and Philips customer support have been helpful trying to resolve this (it's Philips' problem, really), but the bottom line is that after several weeks we still do not have the right antenna for it. A Philips tech. support person told me just yesterday that the documentation he has does NOT indicated that an antenna is included with the unit, and that only four adapters are included (the documents seem to have been revised to match reality).

We were disappointed to find that this device would not charge the ipod nano 4th generation, although the manufacturer's web site indicated that it was compatible with the ipod nano with no specifics on which models. It would play the 4th generation fine with decent quality sound, but there was a warning on the ipod indicating that it was not charging. An older ipod model we have did charge fine. I called Apple and they confirmed that this device is not compatible with the 4th generation. We sent the Phillips speakers back to Amazon and promptly received a full refund. We purchased an iHome device that works well. We recommend contacting Apple to confirm compatibility before purchasing a speaker system to go with an ipod.

I actually purchased this product through a local retailer (not Amazon) and I'm very happy with my purchase. I purchased this primarily to play music off of my ipod touch (which it does not charge, but there is an available adaptor to make it charge while being docked). Not only does it play music off of my ipod, but I can use one of the adaptors that came with the system and plug my ipod in through the headphones jack and play Pandora radio (a self made radio station that creates a playlist for you based on your favorite artists, songs, or genres). Though several people complained about the usage of the remote for the commands, I'm ok with using the ipod screen for most of my info. As for charging while using, using the aux cable frees up the charging jack on the ipod so it can be plugged into a wall. I don't consider this a hassle but some might.

I bought this system after walking up and down the store with my ipod and a couple of songs ready to play and plugged them in to all of the docking stations and shelf systems. The price points started at 50.00 and went up. We tried them all...even ready to consider Altec Lansing, Harmon Kardon, or Bose for a good sounding docking station that would take up little space. So after plugging in and turning up about 15 systems, we were pleased to find the one we enjoyed the most (thanks to it not sounding very tinny compared to most of them) was at the lower end of the price point. The main unit is actually a mini-subwoofer with a small tube built in. The speakers are wired but if you wanted to extend you could splice in additional line (keep in mind sound quality goes down the longer you make the wiring).

The controls may have been easier to use on other models, but the sound quality was the biggest factor in this purchase and I feel I got a very good product to fill this need.

This iPod Dock is great! It has great sound quality and some solid bass. It isn't just good for your iPod but is good for any AUX or USB device.

The only flaw is that the remote sometimes doesn't work. It is easily fixable by going onto the radio and switching stations, then going back to the iPod.

Trying to find a reliable, easy to use, inexpensive, alarm clock for the wife. She wanted one that sets itself and had a battery back-up. I wanted one that would wake her up. Found this one at K-mart and spent 30 mins playing with it over by the televisions (needed a power source). This radio alarm clock is perfect for what I need. This being my first review, I"ll just point out the things that made me buy it.

1. Nice soft blue color, 2 setting...low you can just make out and high is clearly visible

2. Battery back up (even came with batteries) easy to find AA"s

3. Plug in in and it sets itself (all you have to do is set the time zone) has a switch for Daylight Savings Time.

4. Dual alarm (his and her) or in this case days and midnights...set it and forget it. You don't have to remember to set it everyday.

5. If the power goes out the alarm goes into kind of a sleep mode. It beeps to warn you of the power failure and according to the instructions, remembers the alarm settings and goes off without it being plugged in (not tested yet)

6. The alarm starts off kinda like any other alarm but then gets progressively louder (can't see anyone sleeping through this one)

7. Playing with the tuner, looks like one of those old fashion, spin the dial things, but it shows a digital read on the display (kinda cool but it's a cheap radio folks and sounds like one)

8. The snooze is adjustable from 1 to 30 mins.

9. Last but not least, the alarm set time is displayed on the lower right, so if your the nervous type, you can double check to make sure the alarm is where you want it to be. All for around 20 bucks...and that"s all I have to say about that.....

I had googled "alarm clocks best" or something similar and the earlier model of this one came up.

Since I had already gotten one at my Big Box store that I wasn't happy with, I decided to give it a try.

Pros: HUGE easily readily numbers for the time.

It goes off each morning at the set time without you having to remember to reset it

It has a second alarm you can set if, for example, you want to take a nap during the day

Cons: Setting it is not totally intuitive, and I had to sit there with the (not easy to follow) instructions in hand while setting it up the first time. And setting the second alarm seems even more complicated, to the degree that last time I needed that feature, I just used the alarm on my cell phone.

And when oh when will some body come up with a way to set the time without having to scroll through every number?!

The clock looks pretty good. The display is far too bright for a dark room, even with the automatic dimmer set. One of the blue lines that makes up the time display broke after about a month. After a year the flimsy plastic switch to turn on/off the alarms just snapped somewhere and no longer works.

OK design except for the brightness but the build quality is pathetic. Don't waste your money.

I needed a new alarm clock because my old one had a nice feature where the time would automatically adjust to Daylight Savings time. The only trouble is that I purchased it long before the Powers That Be made the decision to change the dates for Daylight Savings time (I had it for more than 8 years!). So, twice a year, I was going somewhere at the wrong time. I couldn't update the software on it to the new DST schedule, so I finally decided to get a new one.

I really wanted to love this alarm clock from RCA. I thought the blue display would be a nice change but mostly the idea of having the alarm time displayed was just what I needed. You have to flip the switch to DST instead of it being automatic like my old Emerson, but I decided it was a good trade off. I also like the adjustable time for the snooze so that you can set it to exactly what you want it to be.

Other reviewers have said that the blue display is very bright, and I do agree. But this didn't bother me much since I mostly have my eyes closed anyway and don't have to deal with it in the dark. The snooze button across the top of the unit is very large....which is great for a sleepy hand to hit it, but it makes it difficult to hold the unit in order to adjust the time for the alarms and such. But this is also something that you can get used to and work around.

The main reason that I am rating this item low is that the alarm button broke right at the 30-day mark. Now my "alarm 1" is stuck on the wake to music setting. I can't change it to the buzzer, but more importantly, I can't shut it off!! So, I have an alarm set every single day. The best I could do was change the time of the alarm. This was really annoying for the rare weekend when I had the opportunity to sleep in.

I'm past my 30-day warranty from the place I purchased it from, so I can't return it there....so now I am struggling with the manufacturer for a refund. Needless to say, I am going back to my Emerson brand. I definitely do not recommend this product.

I didn't buy this clock for it's "Auto Clock Set" feature, but I was quite pleased to see it when I unpacked the clock. However, don't be confused, "auto clock set" is completely misleading.

The clock does some silly circling lights when you first plug it in, as if searching for a frequency, but it's not doing ANYTHING. The time is pre-set at the factory, that's it. That's why the thing ships with batteries installed. This doesn't sound like a big deal unless you want exact time and, like me, accidentally adjust the clock "manually."

I may not have cared about the auto time function at first, but when I made a mistake and messed up the time, I didn't want to go through the trouble of re-setting the clock, so I unplugged the clock and removed the batteries. I assumed the clock would search out the atomic-clock frequency and set itself again....it didn't and it won't for you. All you get is blinking 12:00 (like any clock).

After much searching through manuals and online and trying every trick I could think of, it dawned on me that the whole "auto clock set" thing was a gimmick. So, if you lose power for too long, if your batteries go dead, if you take the batteries for some other device, or if you just decide to unplug this clock and take out the batteries, you'll have to reset this clock just like any other clock radio purchased in the past 30 years. There is a name for the feature this clock comes with, "battery back-up" with "factory set time." The time zone button is just a simple one hour time cycle adjustment.

Aside from the misleading claims, it seems like a reasonable clock. It's display is bright as others have commented, but you can dim it. The two alarms is a nice feature, as is showing the alarm in the lower right corner. I haven't had this clock long enough to speak to build quality, which, judging by other reviews, seems suspect.

1st or 2nd alarm button--can't recall which--broke off. Took about two months for this to happen.

I bought this for my two picky teenaged sons, and they are happy with it. It is not too bright at night, but still easy to see. It is not difficult to set or turn off.

compact & offers alot of features but the one thing that is a con is the alarm buzzer isn't very loud especially if you are a heavy sleeper.

~I had a problem with this at first because I couldn't figure out how to set the time on it. (Yes, yes, I know, I know who doesn't know how to set the time on an electric clock, you ask.) It took me a while, but I finally realized that, when setting the date and time, the current time is actually the 3rd "menu" to adjust not the 2nd one (which came right after setting the date, so I was confused.)

~It keeps perfect time, of course. I was amazed last week, when, after losing power for a little while, the correct time showed on the clock after power was restored, despite NOT having a replaceable back-up battery. Nice!

~The numbers are nice and big, which I need.

~I also like the option of being able to choose the brightness of the display low or high. I keep it on high most of the time, even at night.

~The controls for the alarms and radio, etc, feel solid, are clearly marked, and operate well.

~As to the radio it's okay. We don't get great over-the-air reception for anything where I live, so I don't count on a little radio like this for my entertainment.

~Actually, I've found that the most effective alarm in the world is to set a clock radio to a NON-station -somewhere BETWEEN stations that sounds like static or garbled stuff -something really annoying-sounding -and set the volume nice and loud. This is one of the older (to my knowledge) Sirius units. I've had mine 3+ years. They are bigger and clunkier than many of the new models, but to me with the larger display and button size it is far easier to use and preferable. I have 5 of these in my family and have not had trouble with any of them. Mine is used in my car on my daily commute and then taken into the office to be used all day in the compatible boombox. I've looked at the new ones and while they do appear a bit more slick and sophisticated, I've decided for now I'll keep what works very well for me. FYI In two of our cars, I have the unit hidden out of sight in the center console with the antenna on the rear deck inside the car and it works well if you make certain the antenna has a good view of the sky. To me the trade off of a possible very slight degradation of performance is more than offset by the convenience of a totally inside the vehicle installation.

I bought this CD player to try to upgrade from the tape player/radio that my car came with. Since I'm not a huge audiophile, I didn't want to spend tons of money on a fancy sound system, just wanted something serviceable to play CDs.

This item did not fulfill that criteria. It worked fine for about 2 weeks, then it stopped working. It wasn't a problem with the CDs themselves, because this problem happened with the radio too. After a minute or so of playing, the sound would randomly fade out and remain silent for a long time, then come back for a few seconds, then out again, and so on. And when I say that it was silent for a long time, I mean that I'd get about 2 minutes of music during a 45-minute drive.

I had my mechanic look at it, and it was definitely not a wiring or installation problem. Finally we determined that it was with the internal hardware of the CD player, a circuit that would overheat after a few minutes of work, rendering the whole item useless.

Unfortunately, by the time it stopped working, it was too late to return the stupid thing. So, don't waste your money, people! Spend a little more to get something that actually works.

This is the most worthless car radio I have ever seen. The tuner is manual, difficult to tune perfeclty, and will not hold the setting. Switching between AM and FM, and tuning to a station on either one, will change the channel on both. THERE ARE NO PRESETS!!!!! Even the radios from the 1950's had presets! My gosh, how this piece of junk ever made it to the market is way beyond intelligent understanding. It's cheap, but don't waste your money. You'll only be buying another one within a month.

Samsung Omnia II Phone (Verizon Wireless)

I've had this phone for almost a week now and I love it. Being a windows mobile phone makes it even better.

The main reason I only give this phone 4 stars is because of 2 things.

1)The headphone jack is on side instead of the top, so if you plan on using it to listen to music, you will want to get headphones with a 90 degree plug on them.

2)The Touch pro interface is not very good.I found the whole widget setup to be fairly unimpressive and the 3d cube thing is an absolute joke (you can just push the buttons at the bottom instead of spending time trying to get the cube to spin to the side that you want).

Normally the interface problem would have been a deal breaker, but you are in luck. I downloaded the SPB Mobile shell replacement and installed that and it's is incredible. Not only does it make the phone much more functional, but it also makes it look incredible, is easier to edit and add/remove shortcuts, and it reduces the amount of memory needed by quite a bit once you turn off the samsung widget plus interface (under Start>settings>Display settings>Items on Today).

So far everyone at work has been impressed with the phone including a big time mac fan. A couple people have even said the are considering this phone over the Droid after seeing it.

This new Omnia II is without a doubt, the most awesome phone I have ever used. It is such a dramatic improvement over the previous Omnia and all other phones I have tried, including, Palm and Blackberry. The screen resolution is AMAZING and with my SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Diary everything is at my fingertips. I LOVE this phone and would recommend to my business collegues in a heartbeat.

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Unlocked Phone with Touchscreen--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black)

I am a late adapter when it comes to cell phones. So refrained from Iphones and vu/touch phones as one was mostly tied to a provider data plan or had to pay a premium for the phone itself.

If you dont care about 3g (read data plan 29.99 a month) or GPS there cannot be a better phone at this price range. Solidly built, some reviews complained about back cover. I do see an issue there as it get on the phone with little notches on all sides. But how may times you open that. Specially when SIM/SDHC is accessible from outside. The only time you need to open the back cover is when you install a battery.

What I love about this phone in order of preference.

Form Factor (It looks like a phone and not a PDA)

Not tied to a provider or unlocked so you dont have to be geeky searching for unlocking/jail breaking articles.

Wifi 54G (email is good on the run)

Quad Band GSM World Phone

Media/Music playback is excellent.

Can go upto 16GB Micro SDHC (plenty of music or videos) comes with 4Gig.

Speaker phone and in general call quality for me increasd 3-5 times. (I used Razr before).

Clear brilliant screen

Touch pad responsive enough

Picture quality @3.2MP is good in daylight and flash comes in handy for pictures in lowlight (subject @2-4 ft).

What I will look for in future revisions.

USB Charging capability

A little thinner (Not that is fat right now) but it would make it sweeter.

Total Alloy body including back cover for a more solid feel.

Maybe a more rugged look/feel (non piano black or non shiny finish for e.g Zune kind of finish or finish with more friction), I always get a feeling I am going to drop it.

After carefully reading reviews on similar unlocked phones like the Cookie and even higher end Nokia models like the N97, I ultimately decided to go with the 5530 Xpressmusic. I was definitely in need of a new phone as I had basically a dinosaur for a cell phone. I wanted a few things from my new phone which were:

1. a modern, sleek touchscreen design

2. an unlocked phone compatible with my SIM

3. a phone that works when it should and is easy to learn to use

The Nokia 5530 xpressmusic was all of this and so much more. I find it to be very functional I have not had a dropped call or any problems with the interface itself. The touchscreen is very easy and fun to use. Once you get used to it, you will be able to navigate the phone very easily. I find the screen to be very responsive, although sometimes I do like to use the stylus. However, I must say it is important to follow the user guide I have done that and the phone has been so much fun! It does not have GPS or 3G compatibility however, I was not looking for these things. I can live with 2G and actually a recent firmware update has made the phone run even faster, even online. It comes with a 4GB memory card which can be upgraded to 16GB so plenty of room to store things. The absolute best part of this phone, as the name suggests, is the music player. The quality of the sound is absolutely incredible and the phone was designed for music lovers in mind. In fact, one of pre-loaded videos even refers to the device as a "music player that is also a phone!". Music on this phone sounds better than many higher end models that my friends have. They are quite jealous! A set of headphones also come with the phone that I have found to be of average/slightly above average quality. The camera and video are also pretty impressive, not amazing, but still pretty good quality for this phone.

The only reason I knocked a star off is the battery. Battery life seems to get depleted quickly , sometimes way too quickly, so the phone must be charged each night or you risk having a dead battery by noon the next day. I have tried all of the optimization tricks to get more life out of the battery and still it is rather short.

So if you are looking for an affordable alternative touchscreen phone with some interesting features and easy interface, this phone has been a joy and is the way to go. An iphone killer? I wouldn't go that far at all, but with many similar features and similar touchscreen feel, it is a great choice for anyone who doesn't want to pay $400 for a phone.

Been playing with the phone for several days and I absolutely love it for the $199 I paid. Of the features I was interested in, here are my opinions on them:

0) very easy to setup this unlocked phone -I took a SIM card from a Tmobile prepaid phone and inserted into this nokia and it self-configured everything for me (a relief for me as this was my first time buying an unlocked phone). Now that I know the cell coverage is good in my brick-walled condo, I'll swap this SIM card for a cheap $30 Tmobile monthly plan SIM card, and fully expect this to be a quick swap

1) perfect size -fits in a shirt or pants pocket easily, is lightweight, and easy enough for my stubby fingers to hold and operate. hard to operate this with gloves on though (e.g., on a ski slope)

2) music player and FM player are *very high* fidelity, especially compared to other players out there. A couple of caveats though -the earphones that come with it are only average for sound quality, and I get much higher fidelity sound using my other set of compact Sony headphones. Also, from what I can tell, the FM radio only works with headphones on -you can't use the built-in speakers for radio. The built-in speakers are a lot better in fidelity than other phones/players I've tried, but obviously this device is too small to accurately replicate bass using its built-in speakers. Bass is fine with good headphones though.

3) WLAN capability is fantastic. With free WLAN everywhere, it's by far the cheapest way to access the net through the phone without a data plan (recall I'm doing this with a prepaid SIM card). Note that the phone supports 2G (and not 3G), but with WLAN being much quicker downloads (e.g., 2-3 sec delay to start playing youtube videos) and usually free, I'm not interested in 3G. video quality was surprisingly good for such a small device. Reading email on yahoo was pretty easy, but required a few too many clicks too navigate within yahoo -I wouldn't want to go through 40 email with this, but it's fine to scan my daily email and reply to just a few email. I had been planning on buying a nettop and WLAN scanner as well, but this phone already does both of those functions well enough for me so I won't be buying either anymore.

4) instruction guide that came with it could really use some work. if you're new to Nokia (like me), it was tougher to figure out than other cell phones I've used (sony ericsson, motorola, and panasonic). the back cover is annoyingly badly designed as others have remarked, and the instructions were nearly useless for getting that cover off and back on again. i'll probably seek out google searches for this device before i use the instruction guide in the future.

5) comes with 4G memory card, but the slot is in a bit of an odd place. my other phones usually kept it in the back with the SIM card and battery, but this places it in the side. it's really an odd design, but since I don't plan to swap memory cards all too often, not a huge issue for me.

6) battery life is average. my previous sony ericsson gave me a 10 hour talk time, and this phone probably gives about half that, and even less if you go crazy with WLAN, etc. so i'll probably end up buying a second charger so I can keep one at work and home (I listen to music all day at work with it)

7) phone lacks AM radio and GPS. sports broadcasts are often on AM -would have liked if they added that in. GPS would have been nice, but alas, all these things would have probably raised the price too

overall, i'm really happy with this phone given its price -it gives me all the features I really need without forcing me in to expensive cell phone data plans with the wireless companies. its music player capabilities beat out even the $400 phones/players, and if you're willing to live without a few features, this is a great phone for the price -plus you won't feel as bad if you damage it

This is a great phone! However, it took me a week to figure out why my battery life is very short. I was charging this phone every night and it runs out of battery at 6pm, the next day.

Double check:

1) Your RSS or Web Feed settings. This will activate your Wifi and drain the battery.

2) Your Mail for Exchange settings. I had this set to "check every hour" and my phone only lasted a day.

3) All internet settings. Make the apps ask for connection. If you have any apps that automatically check for updates, you will drain the battery.

4) Apps in the background. Like IM or Facebook.

5) Email automatic retrieval.

After I turned all of these automatic features off, my battery life is the same as Nokia's spec.

I really enjoy this phone.

I bought this to replace an existing under cabinet CD player (different brand) and am not very happy with it. It has a hollow sound and no controls for bass or treble. Also I thought it had a light like my other one but it doesn't. It is very thin and streamlined and looks good in my kitchen but that's where my positive comments end. Wouldn't recommend this one if you want good sound and adequate controls.

Let's face it this unit is not a Sony. But at $30, it does everything it's supposed to. The cd player, radio, and mp3 input all work fine. Doesn't have a lot of volume but it works well for our kitchen.

Needed CD player for listening to books but the sound is good enough that we are enjoying music as well. It does not turn itself off and it was a job getting the antenna untied but we love it. May never be able to get radio to work. Think we need about 100 ft to get outside our cement house. Time is lighted, a bonus as my new microwave has no battery backup so it vanishes with every power glitch. For the price it is amazing.

If you are looking for a product that does what it promises for the price, this is what you want.

My husband and I purchased this radio a little over a month ago now and we are happy with the purchase. We had read all these reviews here on Amazon and took them into consideration before purchasing. It is true what most people said, the sound is not that great (it definitely lacks bass) but it doesn't have that airy sound to it either. It is an average sound nothing special. The radio reception isn't the greatest either. We got in about 60% of the normal radio stations we can pick up in our car. Also, one thing that wasn't mentioned is that you cannot preset any radio stations. They are digital, but are switched with a dial on the side of the radio.

Now to the positives. The best thing about this radio is that fact that you can hook up your mp3 player or in our case, the mp3 players on our phones. We use this feature all the time. It was also easy to install since they give you a template to follow to drill the holes. I personally thinks it looks nice it isn't an eyesore. It is slim as well.

Granted, this radio does has its downfalls, however the reason I decided to give it 4 stars out of 5 is because it is simple: you get what you pay for. If you are looking for an inexpensive under-the-cabinet radio this one is just fine. If you want awesome sound obviously this one isn't for you. I would recommend it if you don't want a radio with all the bells and whistles, but something simple to play some music while cooking or eating dinner.

Sony ICFC180 AM/FM Clock Radio

My wife and I have been using the same clock radio for the past 20 years It's a dual alarm Panasonic and it still works pretty well. Some of its features such as individual up/down alarm/time set for the minutes and hours are not even available on clocks today. And it has a 10 minute snooze not nine minutes, another feature hard to find these days. But it's lacking in other areas such as no battery backup. So we decided to replace the old clock.

Some research was necessary. For the most part, only Timex, RCA and Sony have competitive products. My requirements were simple AM/FM dual alarm, battery backup, 10 minute snooze, easy to read display, and not too bright. I did not need a CD or MP3 option. Here's why I bought the Sony ICFC180 and rate it so highly:

Form Factor and Buttons: This is not a large clock radio it's about six inches square. The case is pretty much all white. Buttons are well spaced and nicely shaped. You can easily learn to use this clock in the dark or by feel alone.

Display: The backlit LCD displays not only the time, but both the alarm settings, each in its own quadrant. This is a great feature. The time is large enough to read from across the room although it could have been a bit larger. The alarm displays are smaller, but fine for viewing bedside. Viewing from different angles seems fine. It has two manual brightness levels and here Sony cheaped out a bit an auto dimmer with sensor would have been nice. The high level is fine for the day and the low level is acceptable for the night, but who's going to move the tiny switch each day? I leave it on the low setting. I really like the room dark when I sleep and I would have preferred the low level to be a bit dimmer. The display is mostly green, with orange for the weekday alarms. The green is fine, but the orange is just a bit too bright. But again, it's acceptable.

Time Features: Auto time set well not really. The auto time set feature prominently displayed on the box is a bit misleading. Unlike other clocks (such as from RCA) which can set the date and time and change daylight savings automatically, this clock is just set at the factory and uses a lithium battery to keep the time. If you happen to live on the east coast of the United States, then the time is correct when you first plug it in. Otherwise, you need to adjust the time zone. Since the clock doesn't know the date, daylight savings is also manual, but here at least Sony provided a single button to change the 1 hour offset. My only complaint is that the daylight savings button is on the top and could be accidentally pushed the display does show an icon for the 1 hour offset, but it's really tiny. I would have made the daylight savings feature a toggle switch (not a push button) and put it on the back you only use it twice a year.

Radio: Old style analog display and thumb wheel for tuning. Digital with presets would have been nice, but let's not forget, this clock only cost $25. The tuning wheel is stiff enough that it won't be accidentally changed when pickup up, moving, or just dusting the clock.

Alarm: Here's where this clock really shines. The box says it has two alarms, but in reality it has four individual alarms! The thinking by Sony is that two alarms are for the weekdays and two are for the weekends, but since the weekday/weekend feature is a manual push button, you can really use the alarms however you wish. My kids have Timex clock radios with a 7-5-2 feature which lets you determine if the alarm should be used for weekdays, weekends, or both. This is nice because it's automatic, but on the other hand you only get two alarms and have less flexibility. I think the Sony solution is excellent. The clock also makes it totally clear which alarms are active orange background for weekdays, green background for weekends, and no display in the quadrant when the alarm is off. Setting the alarm time is also very easy with a separate twist knob for each displayed alarm. The time can be adjusted forward or backward one minute at a time. Holding forward or backward changes the minutes quickly and after a few seconds, switches to 10 minute increments. This is a much better solution than just increasing the speed as most other clocks do. In fact, the only other clock that works better is my old Panasonic which has separate forward and backward buttons for both the minutes and the hours. Regardless, this clock has excellent time set controls!

Snooze: What is it with 9 minute snooze alarms? My theory is that increments of 9 are much harder to add in your head and all that thinking wakes you up but in reality I think it harks back to a limitation of the old mechanical alarm clocks. Anyway, I needed a 10 minute snooze and this clock has that. Plus, if you continue to press the snooze button (which is big and easy to find without looking), the snooze can be increased in 10 minute increments up to an hour a nice feature. The clock even blinks the alarm set time after you press snooze to indicate you're beyond the original wake up time.

So that's about it. There are some other features (nap timer, alarm melodies, no power no problem), but I haven't really used these much. If you're looking for similar features and also need a CD player, Sony makes another Dream Machine alarm clock (ICF-CD843V), but that one costs $70 and looks like a weird space helmet. All in all, this is an excellent clock radio with well designed controls, tons of features, and a low price.

After my dog spilled water on my last Sony clock, i was on the hunt for the new one... What sold me on this was compact size, "no power, no problem" and the fact that you can see what time the alarm is set at right on the front and know that its on or not... no guessing....

The bonuses that add something extra is the ability to set two alarms each for both weekdays and weekends and each has their own optional melody instead of radio or buzzer. I also like the way this buzzer works, which starts off infrequent and builds up to more annoying the longer it goes off... that gives me a chance to turn it off or hit snooze before it goes hog wild.

Unlike other reviews, I think the back lights are perfect... the dim at night and bright during the day are exactly how I would like them, although I noticed that my backlight is orange where the one pictured is green. Maybe that makes a difference. One last bonus is I found this at Target as part of the "liv" series which are tan in color... usually you are stuck with white or black and the earth tone was a nice touch.

Overall, I'm glad my dog ruined my old one!

I've had a Sony radio alarm for about 15 years. I got it from my Grandmother for Xmas, and it has served me well. I decided it was time to upgrade and Sony has earned my loyalty over the years with things from computer monitors to a 27" Trinitron from 1983 that still works like new.

This clock radio does what it advertises, but it isn't awesome. The controls for alarm adjustment feel like they will break eventually, and the display is hard to read if you don't have eagle eyes. The radio tuner is weak, even near my window, I can't tune in all of the stations that I want.

However, those are they only downs that I've found thus far. The radio has a small footprint, which is very nice in my closet-sized room, and the dual alarm feature is great, as is the push on/off feature. As mentioned above, the knobs used to set the alarms feel somewhat cheap, but they are nice because you can go up and down, as opposed to some alarms that only allow you to move forward. The display brightness can be adjusted, which is nice because on full blast it is VERY bright. The controls are logical and simple to use, and the audio quality is marginally above average.

Two features I really enjoy are the sleep button and the 'weekend' function. The sleep button increases the minutes each time you hit it, which is great for those of us that need an extra hour but don't want to program the alarm for it. The weekend function turns the alarms off, but keeps the setting saved... pretty cool.

Overall this is a fine alarm clock. It wasn't too pricey, it works well for what it needs to do, and it is attractive and small.

Edit:

After a few more months of using this alarm I've come to realize that the viewing angle is only good if you are at eye-level with the clock, or you are above it. This means you can't have it up high on a dresser because the LCDs will be unreadable and very faint. Otherwise still happy with it.

I've been through a lot of clock radios, even trying some vintage ones lately just for variety. But the dial light burned out on my 1970 Sony and I decided to get a modern one. I found this one at the big discount store with a bullseye logo. Mine is identical except the large LCD is orange, and the alarm ones are green. Oh and it was cheaper. This clock is great for a budget clock radio. Average radio reception and sound quality (I don't expect much), very easy to set the alarm, and it automatically sets it own time from the factory. It addresses all the issues of other clock radios: small footprint on the nightstand; 2 alarms; a powerful, replaceable backup battery that will preserve the alarm all night; reasonable lighting on the face (some think it's too bright, for me it's just this side of acceptable, maybe the switched colors made a difference); and the numerals are visible when viewed from a lower position. They dim somewhat, but are still visible and actually help tone down the brightness a little. I'd say that so far, it's one of the best I've ever owned.

I bought this alarm clock to replace a Coby dual alarm clock. I was always annoyed after a power failure when I had to reset the clock and my alarms. Here's a summary of what I like a dislike about it:

Pros:

-4 alarm times! The clock has the usual 2 alarms plus a weekend mode for 2 more alarm times.

-The alarm times are very easy to see. They are displayed in their own section which makes it very easy to tell what time the alarm is set to.

-The alarm time is only lit up if the alarm is on, making it very easy to tell if you turned it on.

-The knobs on the sides make setting the alarms very easy. Rotating a knob quickly back and forth advances the time 1 minute at a time, while holding a knob makes the time advance by 10 minute intervals.

-the display is dimmable

-The radio reception is decent (better than the Coby I had)

-The snooze bar is nice and big

-There is a 'nap' setting which counts down 90,60,30,15 minutes and then sounds the alarm

-There is a choice for alarm sounds: radio, buzzer, and a melody ("Morning")

Cons:

-Just one, the degree of visibility could be better for the display. With my head on my pillow, I see the clock at an angle and can just barely make out the time. Not a huge problem since I know that if the alarm isn't going off, I should be sleeping.

I really like this alarm clock. I would recommend it to anyone whether they need a dual alarm or not.

I bought this phone because it was small, cute and had all the features I needed!! But I am so disappointed with this phone. It keeps blacking out for reasons unknown to me. I have only been using this phone for a few days now and I hate it. The touch screen only responds to your finger tip and it keeps freezing. As a result I am missing my phone calls. DON'T BUY THIS PHONE!! YOU ARE ONLY WASTING YOUR MONEY!!!

I had to write a review because I just don't think the phone merits one star...Maybe two and possibly a three :-)

UPDATE 6/20/2012 No updated apps or OS from SE since I've purchased it. Still not holding my breath. Also I just got an Xperia Mini Pro SK17a White (the updated version of the X10 Mini Pro). Yeah I like to play with SE phones.

TLDR The Sony Ericsson txt pro is a decent smartphone for people who want a basic, compact, stylish smart phone with a slideout full QWERTY keyboard, built-in Wi-FI, *AND* who will be satisfied with the pre-installed features and apps as-is. It is a GSM/EDGE 2G phone that works with AT&T or T-Mobile (but for how long?) including their pay-per-minute plans. This phone is not for people who want to install Android apps or who need a phone with a larger display or QWERTY keyboard.

IMPORTANT: People who want to use this phone with a data plan must carefully research whether this phone or any unlocked smartphone will work with their network. This phone is 2G EDGE only not 3G though I'm no expert on this. I don't use a data plan and I'm happy with the built-in Wi-Fi. Also, if you do buy an unlocked smartphone, be prepared to research how to configure it to use your provider's network (internet, text, multimedia server settings etc.) This doesn't always just happen auto-magically after you turn on the phone. Also, I've read rumors that AT&T is trying to phase out phones that use ?2G EDGE? in the NY Metro area something or other. So far my phone still works fine on AT&T's network and they haven't cut me off.

The Sony Ericsson txt pro is my first smartphone. I purchased it from EVERYDAYCELL fullfilled by Amazon.com. Shortly after purchasing it, I purchased the very similar Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro from an auction website so I can compare both. Note that the "Pro" designation means the phone has a slide out QWERTY keyboard which both phones do have.

The Sony Ericsson(SE) txt pro is a 2G GSM phone that works on the AT&T or T-Mobile networks. It's designed for people who frequently text message and want a (very) compact smart phone with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. People who want an affordable stylish beginner's smart phone and want to avoid a paying for a data plan will also like the phone's built in Wi-Fi.

The phone looks and feels like an Android smart phone but *IT'S NOT* an Android phone. It has SE's own smartphone interface and version of apps such as Google Talk. This is a decent phone *IF* you will be satisfied with the phone's built-in features and apps. However, be aware that Sony Ericsson has a reputation for being slow to provide software updates to their phones (if ever). So, don't count on them providing updates to their apps and obviously you can't install any Android apps.

Another reviewer remarked that this phone is too small or made for children. I bought the phone BECAUSE it's small AND it has the slideout keyboard. Length and width it's the size of a business card! and about thick as a finger. I have big hands and the txt pro keyboard is indeed small but I like the phone and find the keyboard quite usable (if you always keep your nails trimmed :-)). I dislike touch screen keyboards and prefer the buttons and tactile feedback of the txt pro. If you need a larger display or keyboard then shop around.

PROS:

Touch screen interface similar to Android with a home screen that has your favorite apps in the four corners, finger swipes to move screens, etc.

Popular pre-installed web apps Web browser, Gmail, Google Talk, YouTube, Facebook, etc. as well as the common productivity apps (MP3 player, calendar, calculator, etc).

CONS:

It's not an Android phone. So no apps from Android Marketplace and no updates from Sony Ericsson as of 6/20/2012

The X10 Mini Pro is very similar to the "txt pro" except the X10 is an actual Android phone (1.6 which you can upgrade to 2.1 using SE software which I did). I have two cell plans and so I use both phones. I can say I much prefer the X10 Mini Pro only because I like to install apps from Android Marketplace. Also the Android version of apps such as Google Talk work better than the SE version. Of course the X10 costs a little more than the "txt pro" and now SE has launched the new versions of the X10 phones (simply named just "Xperia Mini Pro") costing even more. Beyond that, the "txt pro" is a fine phone for people who want a compact stylish smart phone with Wi-Fi, slideout full QWERTY, and happy with its features out of the box as-is.

People, please read my review before you purchase the piece of junk.

First of all, in my opinion, the phone is NOT designed for adult uses. Instead, it is designed for kids, especially for girls at age under 12. BTW, I bought the phone for my 10 yr. daughter.

Now, let's get into the worst part. I bought the phone from newegg, not from Amazon. My daughter used the phone for about a week, and told me the touch screen didn't work in half of the time. You can ONLY use the touch screen to make a call, answer a call, or terminate a call. If the touch screen doesn't work, the phone is useless. You have to turn off power to terminate a call. I did try to calibrated the phone

I contacted Newegg customer service, and was told the phone was defected and could be returned for refund, but I needed to contact Sony Ericsson to create a case #, and then they could work on the refund. I called Sony Ericsson at 866-766-9374 on 09/30/2011 Friday afternoon around 4:00PM CST. A woman answered the phone. First she took all my personal info; phone #, cell #, address, and e-mail address, and then asked me the phone info and what was wrong. I told her what was wrong, and the seller asked me to contact Sony Ericsson to create a case # for refund. After I said that, the woman immediately said, sorry can't do that, the system is down. Then I said, Ok, since you got all my info, phone # and e-mail, when the system is up, can you call me back? The woman became mad, and very rudely said "sir, I am telling you again, the system is done, I don't know when it will be back, it could be 5 or 10 minutes, or maybe next week (What hack is that, next week???.)". Give me a break! I have never had experiences like Sony Ericsson Customer services. The people who work there are trained to lie, not to solve problems. Their people just like their product!!!

SONY ERICSSON WILL RIP YOU OFF. DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!

Phone is pretty good. Call quality is good, screen is vibrant. My daughter likes the phone. The reason for 3 stars is it is extremely slow on the internet and she has problems sending and receiving pictures messages.

It does everything the description claims FM radio, iPod and auxiliary. I have it at my desk, with the auxiliary as a connection to an Apple Airport Express to stream iTunes when I want a clear signal. Stringing out the FM antenna is required for good reception. Sound is OK.

One annoying quirk: After removing an iPod from the dock, it won't play from other sources unless I disconnect and reconnect power. Fortunately the batteries keep the time when I do that.

I bough a refurbished one. Had I paid full retail, I might have been more disappointed.

I plugged the dock into an outlet and also put batteries in the correct position and it didn't even turn on. Not sure if it's just me, I couldn't find any help with putting it into place, as the instructions that came with it were in Spanish. So I am displeased it didn't work.
