After reading the reviews for this alarm clock (and it's twin sister, the white version), I went with my gut instinct and purchased it, anyway. It charges (does not DRAIN) my iPod -when plugged in. If you read the instructions, it says that your iPod will charge when connected to a power source. Don't expect it to charge your iPod while functioning on four AA batteries!!
The sound is fine for what you're paying. It's a small box, and, sure, the quality isn't exactly that of a high-priced Bose, but think about it: you're using it to wake up. I don't mind listening to a few playlists through this machine, but on the other hand, you're using an iPod, right? If you're that picky, go listen through your computer's speakers...or headphones. I sleep like the dead (and frequent migraines make me practically comatose -I've even slept through fire alarms), and it wakes me up just fine.
To whomever's "front fell off": perhaps you ought to take better care of your belongings. Read the instructions and stop smashing it against a wall. Also, the docks fit all models of people who have brought their iPods to my room. Granted, I haven't necessarily tried EVERY model available, but if the iPod dock doesn't fit your PARTICULAR model, and one truly ISN'T available, are you so inept that you can't McGuyver something to make it stand up?? If it actually does fit and one missed the memo, so to speak, I wonder what s/he had to do to make it not work...hmmmm.
Not one of the reviews I read have been at all true, and I find it annoying that some are clearly copied and pasted onto the product review of the white model's page -which leads me to believe that those comments are spam. (Seriously, people -you had such a problem with the item that you expect us to believe you went and bought it in another color? Seriously???)
I have one gripe: I prefer military time (24hr clock), which is not supported by this interface. Certainly not enough to make it lose a star. Also, the backlight is a little brighter than I'm used to, but within a week or so I adjusted. That's just what happens when you get a new backlit alarm clock. You'll get over it pretty quickly (unless, I suppose, you're an insomniac of sorts; in which case I suggest facing it another direction or covering it). Nota bene: the backlight turns off when not plugged in/running on battery. I would have appreciated functionality with my Apple Remote, but if it had that you could expect it to skyrocket in price. C'est la vie -it has an enormous snooze button, so get over it!
I'm a Resident Assistant at my college with quite a rigorous course schedule, so I *really* can't afford to be late. I purchased this in March 2010 and haven't had even the slightest problem with it yet! The *actual* problems, if *any*, are minute. Keep in mind that you're spending approximately $30 for an iPod docking alarm clock with pretty decent quality...if you still truly feel that this isn't offering you enough, spend a few more mornings sleeping in while you try to save up for the pricier, full-featured models.

This item does not live up to it's discription. The i-pod was dead before the alarm went off. Description states it charges the i-pod....it does not. I will be returning this item to amazon!Want DreamGear i.Sound Time Travel iPod Speaker System (Black) Discount?
Perfect compact size. Nice to wake up to music instead of a screaming alarm. Not for overall music listening but worth the price. After reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant in purchasing this product. But then I remembered what I wanted it for and the attributes that I was looking for and decide to go for it anyway. And after figuring it out, I must say I love it! This was a great investment for my needs. I was looking for something black, small, and that charged my iPod everything else I've found was way too large for my nightstand. The sound quality is fine if you just want to listen to music to wake you up in the morning or while you're doing chores around the house or office. (If you want superior sound quality go buy a Bose or a real name brand product. you get what you pay for) AND YES IT DOES CHARGE YOUR IPOD! But like any other product you have to read the directions and have it plugged in the wall (Honestly using common sense what would make you think it would charge the iPod on battery strength alone that would kill the batteries and your iPod!). It also does have an adaptor for other types of MP3 players which I considered a nice bonus. My iPod is starting to die so I have to charge it every night now and this does the job nicely. I put it on before I go to bed and wake up to a fully charged iPod! Perfect for my needs.
