As a table radio it's pretty good. The sound is better than my old Sony, but not as good as my Boston Acoustics Duo-I Plus. It has decent bass for the size. The FM radio reception was good too. I love that it has CD, Ipod and USB, but the lack of a useful alarm clock means I packed it up and shipped it back :(
Note: I am waiting for the Yahama TSX-140 I ordered to arrive. It is much more expensive, but it has everything I need (CD, Ipod and Alarm Clock). Hopefully it will work out better than this TEAC.

I read the other reviews and the clock backlight seems to be an issue, so if you want it as a bedside unit it may not be ideal but there is a workaround: if you press the 'dimmer' button after you put the unit in Standby the light stays on. There is a 3 stage dimmer and 'light off' so really I don't see that Teac could have done a whole lot more other than replace the backlit LCD for and LED display but I guess it comes down to build costs.Anyway, here's my review:
SizeFootprint is quite large for a bedside unit, but perfect for kitchen, nursery etc. Size / sound will fill a reasonable room
SoundI guess it depends how much you paid for the unit. I think Teac suggest a price point of $249. At that it is not worth the money, get a Yamaha MCR040 Micro System. I paid sub-$100 on Amazon and at that it is a STEAL!!! Definitely the best sound for under $100 and absolutely the best functionality for under $100. The unit has twin rear facing bass ports which is a nice touch although Bass is woolly in places and Treble can be a bit harshmy advice is just leave the tone control flat as it is out of the box and enjoy it for what it is.
LooksI like it! But beauty is in the eye of the beholder so it may not to be everyone's tastes. It could look even better by getting rid of the cheap chrome effect Teac logo on the front and why oh why do companies put these ridiculous filler caps over the iPod dock. Not everyone has an iPod so a discrete flat cap would be better than the ridiculous cover that is on it, but other than that it looks good
Functionalitythe unit does everything and does it reasonably well. CD player is great, with a nice slot loading mechanism on the front. Tuner performs well in FM, picks up stations really easily and they sound good. I didn't check AM (does anyone still listen to AM?!) Tuner memory is easy to use. iPod dock presumably workslook to other reviews about this (I don't have an iPod so can offer no comment on sound quality from iPod). USB input is great, although I can't get the unit to read large memory sticks / hundreds of tracks. I think it is more of a 'dump a couple of albums on USB for playback' type of unit rather than connecting to a huge hard drive. AUX input works well and the system comes with a 3.5mm jack plug so you can connect other devices for playback. Remote control works well and is a nice handy sizenot so small you'll lose it but not huge and cumbersome. A very minor point but I got a black unit and like the fact that the remote control is black and matches the unitI have countless other items where the r/c color doesn't match the finish on the product so this is a nice touch (guess I'm a little OCD!)
Build qualityThis is a solid little unit and the finish is good (although see comment about cheesy Teac logo). The metal speaker grills mean it is more durable than cloth and won't mark / stain / get dirty as easily
Overallno unit is perfect, and this unit is far from perfect. There are several things Teac could have done to make this better but I guess it comes down to extra R&D, build costs etc. as mentioned above. However for the size, the functionality of this unit and sound quality are great.
Summaryif you pay under $100 this unit is an ABSOLUTE BARGAIN, if you buy for sub $149 it is good. Between $150 $200 it is okay. Above $200... don't botherspend your money on a micro system, or (better still) throw an extra couple of hundred bucks in the pot and go for some proper hi-fi instead!
For the price I paid I love the unit, which is why I rate it as 5*

I used to have the Teac SR-L100, a wonderful clock radio! I bought this one thinking it was a true upgrade to that model. Big dissappointment! The sound is great! The FM reception is great! The size, look, and music options are great! But, in standby mode, the display goes off! WTF??? Whoever designed that, I hope they were fired! The previous model didn't do that, nor does the Bose Wave Radio. That small feature made me send the item right back, quickly. I need to see the time when the unit is off, otherwise, it is useless to me. I need a clock first, then music, CD, Ipod, etc. Due to that reason, I was very dissappointed when I received this item. If you need a clock that you can see when the unit is off or on standby, this ain't the one for you! Smaller than it looks in pics. acceptable sound but poor bass. clock turns off when unit is turned off. Due to it low price, I suppose overall is ok.Save 56% Off
Does not work without IPAD,USB, or MP3, If these are missing, device will lose its memory of all stations and will have to be reprogrammed for all the stations that were put it.This is a BAD design!
