I'm not an audiophile by any means, so take this review for what it's worth, but I purchased this model because I wanted a small/medium size speaker unit with built-in AirPlay and I had mid-range expectations for how it would sound. But (somewhat surprisingly to me) the sound is awesome -very full and loud with no distortion and with good bass. AirPlay set up to my wifi network was simple directions are straitforward and overall it's really quite an attractive and very good sounding piece of equipment. The design, curvy and elegant, is reminiscent of something Apple would create. The Fidelio App is good, though not a necessity by any means given the streaming capabilities of radio and news apps on the iPhone/iPad, etc. The only limitation to this unit is that the power cord isn't very long. But this is a small quibble. The sound on this unit is great.

This was my first speaker with integrated AirPlay, which was exciting. However, I was a bit nervous that Philips manufactured it, because while they apparently market high-end A/V in Europe, they're more of a "value-brand" manufacturer stateside. Don't get me wrong, there's certainly nothing wrong with "value" in today's economy, but this speaker is creeping into high-end pricing, to the point where you expect it to deliver in terms of audio quality!

Did it? Well, yes and no. The good news is that it delivers volume without distortion, and I was especially impressed with the setup process (you connect to it as a WiFi router, then change its settings on a web page it serves up); it's much better than competing products' setup because it's easier to use an iPhone virutal keyboard to enter WiFi passwords than to, for example, use up/down arrows to tediously scroll through letters (like with a competing Panasonic AirPlay speaker I've also tried).

The bad news is that audio quality is only okay. Clarity isn't bad, but isn't great, bass underdelivers and it's certainly not as crisp as high-end speakers from Harmon Kardon or Bowers & Wilkens. That said, it's better audio quality than the similarly priced Panasonic AirPlay speaker I tried, and the Fidelio is hundreds cheaper than the Bowers & Wilkens Zepplin AirPlay speaker.

It also feels a bit more stable than using an AirPort Express as an AirPlay server, though I'll give fair warning that AirPlay in general can be a little flaky (which is Apple's fault, not Philips').

Not a bad purchase, all in all.

Well, its been a year of fighting with this thing and I have thrown in the towel. The unit sounds great when i have it hard wired to my laptop, but it never really worked well with Airplay. I broke down and bought a Sonos setup today and am going to sell this at a loss. Oh well.

I shopped around a good deal and read a lot of reviews on Amazon and elsewhere before settling on this solution for an AirPlay speaker for my iPad and iPhone in the bedroom. Found the setup easy to do. Like the quality of sound--my music preferences are jazz and classical. And it looks "cool". The only frustration I have is if I shut it down (red light) it oftentimes takes several attempts to get it to lock in on my network WiFi. I find it best to leave it on (green light) to avoid this. Also, I never got the apps from Philips to work but they are really not needed. This is the reason I gave it 4 stars.

This unit looks sleek and very 21st century. It sounds great too. I was really amazed at what I was hearing from my iPhone over this unit. Subtle notes came through really well and distinguishable.

The remote control worked great for the most part. Had some issues here and there with it. Perhaps it was the 'airwaves.'

My biggest issue was set up. While I expected it to be a breeze it wasn't. Had one issue after another. Finally things clicked and I got connected. It shouldn't be this difficult to set up. On occasion it takes a few tries to reestablish the connection once I leave and then go back the next day and turn it on. This shouldn't be the case. And it gets a bit frustrating.

But that being said, once a connection has been accomplished, the speaker has performed well. And sounds great.

I have three things to say about this clock:

1. If you, like me, hate a loud beeping alarm, this one lets you pick 6 "nature" sounds to choose from, and you can set the volume on those -or on the beep. This is, to me, a fabulous feature, and the reason I bought the clock in the first place.

2. It's a clock. It's a radio. It's a white noise machine. It's R2D2. (Ok, no, but the projector piece makes me think the video of Leia is going to show up on my ceiling.)

3. It's *ridiculously* bright. There are two settings on this clock, Really Bright and OH-MY-GOD-AM-I-IN-TIMES-SQUARE? bright. It cast a shadow of me on the wall while I slept. If you keep the clock across the room from you, maybe it wouldn't be so bad, but mine is on my bedside table and it was like sleeping with a flashlight in my eyes.

I'm not kidding, I could read by it in bed.

The clock projection is mounted on the wrong side of the clock. This would have been an ideal clock except that the project can be tilted only at a 90 degree angle, allowing the projection on the wall behind the clock. If you need to see the time on the ceiling, you have to turn the clock around backwards to have the time project overhead. I returned this clock to Amazon for a Sony Projector Nature Sounds Dream Machine which has a 180-degree range of motion in the projector.

My only excuse is that I purchased this Homedics projection clock/radio using a Christmas gift certificate from a brick and mortar store. But I should have at least looked at the Amazon reviews.

I set up the clock radio, it flawlessly acquired the correct time via the atomic clock, and I set the alarm. I set the light setting on the display for the lowest of the two settings, and oriented the projection on the ceiling. As soon as my light was out, it was evident that the bluish lighted display was producing way to much annoying light, and the projection was not helping in that regard. We've had an Emerson projection clock in our household for a couple of years with a red lighted display and projection which produces no such problem.

Finally, by the early hours of the morning, I'd had enough. The comment someone made about Homedics clocks producing enough light to make shadow puppets was apt. The only good thing I can say about it was that it made enough light so that I had little trouble in what would have otherwise been the dark to find the cord and plug and pull it out of the outlet, so that I could finally turn off that blasted over-bright display and properly relax for a bit of sleep.

It is going back to the store at the next opportunity. And I won't make assumptions that nobody could mess up the manufacture of something as simple as a clock display. I'll read the reviews next time and steer clear of Homedics clocks.

If you turn the clock away from you, the time projects correctly, and the light is not in your face. Can't deal with being awakened by startling noises of an alarm clock(who's idea was that). This is a very poor quality product. The alarm could only be set once. When I tried to change the alarm set time it would not change. I then tried clearing everything by removing the battery. Not only would the alarm still not reset, but now the time and date could not be set. Typical chinese made garbage. This product is so bad that Michigan based HoMedics must know that it doesn't work and just doesn't care. Wish I still had my receipt--now all I can do is throw it in the trash.

The radio feels like it's an analog tuner with a digital display of the channel. This would be fine, but the display doesn't quite match the channel playing, and it has a tendency to drift while driving down the road. There are no presets, so if you are tired of the current station, plan on having someone change the channel for you, or pull over, as watching the display to change channels is dangerous while driving.

The MP3 capabilities are great, and the ability to skip 10 songs at a time is a nice feature. It also has a search feature, but I haven't tested this.

If you mostly play MP3s or CDs, and are looking for a great value, buy this. If you listen to the radio more then casually, then look for another radio.

it does what it says it does. but the knob is just for the tuner, the vol is +located on the far right side of the radio. the tuner feels almost analog. if not tweaked just right there will be static on the station even though it says your on it. it does have audio controls, they seem to work ok. now on to the usb. it works.... it charges.... great. but the only navigation of the interface is single track by track or a lovely option to skip 10 tracks in either direction. so if your using a usb stick thats say 16gb and you want to listen to something specific, you could be pressing skip 10, for a long time to get there. on the other hand there is an aux in that can solve that by using an external mp3 player with its own interface and controls. so now we come to the system aspect. if your using subs, and this still maybe fixable, it seems at first that the bass to speaker ratio is off. that the best way i can describe it. i ofcourse adjusted everything and even turned down my amp levels but it still seems that the bass is either making my speakers clip or is barley noticeable. with all that said i still think its an okay deal if your looking for certain features over others.

This Radio worked better than advertised!!! Our main purpose for buying this was to be alerted for severe weather during our crosscountry road trip durning the month of May. The biggest selling point was the fact the radio would turn on if a weather alert was transmitted in your area. The second day on the road we came out to the car after dinner to find the radio on and transmitting a weather alert. It saved us from heading directly into the upcoming storm. This was also very helpful to find out about traffic problems and we used it twice to alert fellow drivers of dangers in the road. I can not recommend this highly enough!!! I will always travel with this radio!!!

I have mine in my Chevrolet Silverado, which I use for personal and business it works good and I love the weather bands when traveling out to Louisiana ,when I first installed it I used a 4 foot Fire stick antenna and could not get the swr,s to match so I put a 4 foot Francis on it swr,s matched perfect after that I also run Francis on my company semi also with a Cobra 25 all souped up, overall I like the radio and would recommend it to anybody trucking or personal.

The scan feature is great, the display looks more "modern" and the controls are fairly easy to use. The only thing this CB is missing is side band capability. However the black face/chrome looks great in any interior and works well. The NOAA weather channels work fine with a simple push of a button. Have not tried the PA function yet. The built in speaker is plenty loud for me, I rarely have the volume up past 50%.

There are a couple issues, one the power/volume knob is tiny, makes it hard to switch on depending on where you mount this. The other issue is the unit is pretty long, finding a mounting location that can fit this entire unit is hard if you're trying to integrate it into a vehicle dash.

Received this last week after ordering on Amazon. After installing it in the RV and having everything up and running, tuned, external speaker; the main center knob {menu/channel select} snapped off while I was testing it out! I see from other reviews this isn't the first time this has happened to someone who purchased this model. The slightest sideways pressure on that knob and it snaps, and of course there really isn't anyway for your average user to fix it. It would take a trip to a repair shop or sending it back into Cobra for warranty, and to me it just isn't worth it. Overall the front is pretty cheaply made, all light weight plastic and not very solid feeling. Too bad as this radio had everything I was looking for use-wise.

Basically Chinese craftmanship with an American name slapped on at its finest...

This is a good Ipod alarm clock that does everything it advertises. I have to say, however, that for an extra $10-$15 dollars more the Sony Dream Machine (ICF-C7iP) does everything the iHome does but also has FM/AM radio, a larger and more attractive display, a smaller size, automatic time setting and two alarms that can be set for weekdays/weekends which makes it worth the extra to me.

It does everything it says it's supposed to...plays the radio, plays my Ipod (Itouch). Sound is decent (what do you expect out of a little box for a clock radio?), but...no presets for the radio? That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. So I'm supposed to scroll through all the stations any time I want to change my mind on a station. I don't know about you, but there's about 5-6 stations that I consistently listen to and will change around when a radio is playing something I don't want to hear. Regardless of it being a clock radio where at my bedside I wouldn't be changing the station, if I bought this to go on my desk or something like that, then it would be completely pointless in my opinion. So if you really don't care about changing the station ever or scrolling through it is no big deal or you never will listen to the radio because you're only going to use this for your IPOD anyway, then you can make your decision. Just remember too that the sound is just okay.

This Alarm clock is great, it has all the features I want: it plays my iPod loud enough for me to hear it in the morning. It also is a great speaker system in and of itself. The one problem is that when you set an alarm for a certain time (let's say 7:30 am) it doesn't start playing your iPod for a little bit (until around 7:30 and 30 seconds), but this problem has an easy solution set your alarm to sound 1 minute earlier (7:29 am)! I recommend also setting your alarm on your iPod as well as on the iHome. Overall, this product is to use and I am so far enjoying it. Additionally, the remote control is an amazing feature, you'll find yourself using the remote for snoozing in the morning. GREAT PRODUCT and it looks good too!!

If iHome+Sleep can be faulted for anything, it's the overkill on its design and capabilities (e.g., you're presented with a slider bar for telling it when you go to sleep and when you wake up and it will track your sleep history for you ["Let's see now...I'm about to fall asleep, I'd better reach over and touch my slider..."]).

What it does give you:

· Wake to iPod music, buzzer, or any station that streams through iHome+Radio.

· Set your alarm(s) for weekdays, weekends, or any combination of days you want.

· If you want, automatically view Facebook or Twitter feeds before going to sleep or when you wake up.

· Vary the 'fade-in' of the alarm (starts softly, then gradually fade-in to the volume you want).

· Control how bright the iHome+Sleep screen is on your iPhone (remember, it has to be open to use this device).

I was looking forward to an alarm clock that would work well together with my iPod Touch 4th Gen. Based on the product description ("application-friendly") and on the other positive product reviews, I expected that I would be able to use iHome's own free "iHome+Sleep" app to set an alarm on my iPod, dock the iPod, and then use the buttons on the iHome iP21 to control the alarm. Unfortunately, as I discovered, the iHome+Sleep app isn't actually compatible with the iP21.

When an alarm is set via the iHome+Sleep app and the iPod is docked, when the alarm goes off, the alarm sounds through the iP21's speakers, but the Snooze button on the iP21 does *not* work to snooze the alarm; the alarm must be snoozed via the iPod's touch screen. The Snooze button on my alarm clock working is a must-have requirement for me.

When an alarm is set via the iP21 hardware itself, when the alarm goes off with the iPod docked, the iPod tries to play whatever audio it was last playing (regardless of any settings in the iHome+Sleep app). This worked okay if the last audio to be playing was music from the iPod's own Music app, but I found that sometimes if the last audio to be playing was through another 3rd-party app such as Pandora or TuneIn Radio, the iPod sometimes wouldn't make any sound at all (despite the volume not being muted). My alarm clock's alarm being audible while the alarm is going off 100% of the time is also a must-have requirement for me.

I contacted iHome technical support via email and explained the problems I was having, as described above. The reply I received was "Sorry model iP21 is not apps enhanced, our sleep apps do not work with the iP21."

Therefore, the iP21 wasn't useful for me as an alarm clock, but only as an iPod speaker. Since an alarm clock was what I needed, I returned it.

This is a great alarm clock. As other users have mentioned, the sound quality is not super bass and super loud, but from a speaker this size (and an alarm clock) it has pretty good sound. My favorite feature of this device, is the size, it is pretty small (it looked humongous in the picture), which is good, because my night stand is small. The other nice feature is the dimming. I have always hated alarm clocks that light up the room, and in the past I have covered alarm clocks with towels to cut out the light, this alarm clock can go from bright, dim1, dim2, to no light all with an easy push of the snooze/dim button (I can turn if off at night and when I want to know the time hit the dimmer! It only has one alarm, but that is OK for me. It has back up battery, and unlike past clocks that just save the time (cut the display off), this one keeps the display running and operations in tact (which is real nice). However, the best feature that is not advertised that much, is the inclusion of Apple iPod/iPhone inserts, in the past my alarm clocks, have not included the insert, and my iPhone 4 did not come with one (I have been using an iPhone 3G insert with the iPhone 4, for the longest (which is not really snug on the iPhone 4). The unit comes with the following inserts: iPhone 4, iPhone 3G (and 3GS), iPod Touch 4G (also iPod Nano 6G), iPod Nano 5G, and iPod Touch 2G. My only flaw with the device, is it does not have next/previous track buttons, you have to use the iPhone/iPod controls to go through your music, which is not that bad, but it would be a nice feature. It supports the app that keeps track of sleep, and alarms. However, I have found this app, tries to keep the display lit on the iPhone when in use, which is more light (and not good for me).

To let you know (I used an iPhone 4), unless you have the iPod playing all sounds (type clicking) and app sounds (like YouTube) are disabled and cannot be heard while docked (YouTube, can be played if you start a YouTube video and hit play on the alarm clock). However, the phone will ring (and vibrate) and texts and emails will vibrate only (no sound). -This might be picky, but I wanted to let you know.

In the end, the alarm clock, has nice features and an easy to use system, with an easy to read and understand display with the best dimmer options (no light!!!), and everything you need to plug and play, oh, and also, you do not have to set the clock, it connects to the iPhone/iPod and pulls the time from the device (which is great for iPhone, since the time is synced with the carrier!)

Let me get out of the way that the sound quality is not the best I've ever heard, but that's not what I expect from a clock. Especially one with no built-in radio function. I have an older iHome under-cabinet unit in my kitchen that sounds much better, but the quality is acceptable for this unit's purpose.

What do I love? It charges your iPod, looks nice, has a small footprint on my night stand and is easy to use. It has a gradual wake and a wonderful dimmable display. So nice not to have glaring numbers in your face all night but still be able to check the time.

I got the app and had it set up with my iPod Touch in just a few minutes. I've used the alarm with and without the iPod and it was simple and effective both ways. I also love the time synch with the iPod. Plug your pod in and push a button the time is set!

There are a ton of features available through the apps (iHome+radio and iHome+sleep). You can make as much or as little use of them as you like, but they're quite nice. Take a look at those apps to see what this unit can really do for you.

Overall, a quality product that does what it should and makes great use of the iPod.

I must confess I've been using the same alarm clock for over twenty years. It's a Nakamichi and when I bought it I was ridiculed for spending so much on an alarm clock. Jump forward a few decades and now the expectations for bedside clocks have apparently risen dramatically.

I decided to give this clock a try. I installed the app on my iPod touch and have been tracking my sleep habits. I managed to resist the temptation to over-share by having the app automatically post my sleeping habits on my Facebook page. Too much information, in my opinion.

The company sells larger units which hopefully sound better. For now, I think I'll stick to my trusty old alarm but if you want to wake up in the digital age, this could be worth a look.

I purchased this radio for my desk at work. I wanted a digital tuner so I could easily get the station I wanted. This radio is such a joke. The tuner will just change on its own, just a few decimals but making the station unclear all on its own. There are many times when I try to change it back and the tuner won't work at all. It only stays in the 80s and I have to turn it off and on several times to get the tuner working again. Its very hard to get the radio station to come in clear and I sit next to a window and am trying to listen to one of the main stations in the city. A radio just shouldn't be this difficult. Tune to the station and you should be done, unfortunately not with this one. I plan to just put up with it, I don't want to spend the funds on another one, but its a daily frustration.

This phone is probably the worst I have ever owned. I cannot wait to get a new one, because this one is so bad. First of all. There is no screen on the front which is just annoying because you can't see who is calling you or what time it is until you flip the thing open. I get horrible reception everywhere I go, and zero reception in a lot of places. The phone I had before was fine in those same areas. There is no predictive text for text messaging which makes sending a short message a tedious chore. The back cover falls off everyday. Over all it looks nice, but when you get down to it, its just not practical considering all the other phones out there. I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

Overall a decent cheap phone, however there are a few things that bother me.

1) No external screen to see incoming caller ID and no external time display

2) FM reciever is cool but it requires the headset to be plugged in to get reception so even if you want it on speaker the head set nedds to be available.

3) The feel of the buttons are very numb, tough to tell if a button was actually pressed or not, not a big deal for dialing but in games it kinda sucks.

4)Over all the phone has the awkward feel of the first in the RAZR series and really I don't like that, it's thin sure..but they make up for it in making the just a little too wide for my tastes.

5) Reception is ok.... so far it is getting the same reception range my old v220 did with a cracked antenna. Not impressive for a phone that is a much newer release.

Again these are just the things I was disappointed with and if these things don't bother you then I am sure it will make a good phone for you. But for me I was a little disappointed. It met my expectations but it certainly did not exceed them in any area.

Worst! Worst! Worst! I wouldn't buy this phone for a toddler if I had to... I'm serious! It's reeeeeaaaally slow, sluggish, less than a half MB of available memory, the volume goes and comes, has to charge every day, if it goes off for whatever reason, then it's hells to get it back on at times, I'll type a text message then have to wait and watch the letters come up one by one seconds after like an old typewriter... and I can go on but I wont. I am not trying to pull down the phone, but I really can't find any whistles to lend it. It's really horrible. Buy at your own risk, but if you should ever ask my opinion, I'll tell you plainlyNO! Casio Men's AQF100W-7BV Forester Sports Thermometer Watch

After reading the reviews on here, I was a bit hesitant about buying this watch. I have had other Casio thermometer watches in the past, and was able to calibrate them to the accurate temperature while on my wrist. Despite all the reviews complaining about the inaccuracy of the temp, THIS WATCH IS NO DIFFERENT. All that needs to be done is to get a temp reading with another thermometer, and then program this watch according to the instruction booklet. That's it. It's reading temperature very accurately as I type. Yes, the instruction booklet is complicated (the PDF version from Casio.com is MUCH easier to follow), but it is worth it!

I've had Casios before, and this one is a step down. It is very difficult to set up, especially the analog time. Here's my biggest complaint and biggest warning: If you are looking to buy this watch as an accurate displaying of the temperature, then look for another product. What they only tell you in the fine print after you buy the watch is that the temperature reading is affected by your body temperature. So...if you're planning on actually WEARING the watch (hello??) you won't get an accurate temperature. I'm sitting in a 75 degree room typing this, and the watch says the temperature is 92.4 degrees farenheit. Like I said, a tad disappointing.

I have returned to Casio after using a Timex Expedition electronic compass watch for the last 6 1/2 years. The Timex Expedition's batteries kept dying after only a year even though they were supposed to last three to four years, plus the Expedition kept resetting itself.

Otherwise, your body heat will add almost 20 degrees to the sensor's reading. Right now my watch says it's 70.2 degrees inside. A nearby thermometer says it's 70.9 degrees.

To get the most accurate tidal data, don't rely on using the nearest major city's longitude or lunitidal value. Use Google Earth or another mapping application to get your exact longitude. Then use data provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to determine your locale's precise lunitidal value (http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/faq2.html#22).

Aside from the specific features this watch has, positives include the luminescent analog hands, the Daylight Saving time toggle switch, and the World Time function that enables you to see the current time in major cities around the world. Also, the analog display enables you to see the time when you're using the stopwatch, timer, or tidal calendar.

Negatives include the fact that you have to set the analog hands separately from the digital setting. This means that toggling Daylight Saving time on and off for the digital display has no effect on the analog display. Another negative is the tiny date display and the relatively small digital time display. The time should be larger than the temperature. This is, after all, a watch first and foremost.

I love this watch but it has one major flaw. The bezel is not protected by the case at all. It actually is a dome shape instead of being set into the case like most sport type watches. I got 2 big scratches in it within 2 weeks. As above....the temp does not read correctly unless you take the watch off but I expected that.

I'm used to buying Bose or Altec Lansing but I wanted a small footprint with internal battery so it can moved around the house and also I could use it when going on longer trips outside. This was a perfect choice since it came with everything in a small package. As an owner of an iPhone, I was sad to find that the GSM interference produced by the phone produced insane noises when using my nearly 4 year-old JBL onstage (which has been a solid performer for years). As I went on the search for a replacement I did a ton of research and decided on this unit.

I was initially hesitant to get a sound product from Logitech but I am glad to report that my hesitation was unwarranted. I am very pleased with the sound and build quality of this unit.

I am also geeked because I can leave my iPhone in its case (switcheasy colors) when I place it on the dock connector. I was less than thrilled by the idea of removing my case just to listen to some music.

Here is a list of pros and cons:

Pros:

1. Sound quality. I've put this system through some hip-hop, rock, alternative, classical, acoustic, vocal and other types of music and it has come out great.

2. Build quality. The form factor is excellent. The included case and iPod adapters are cool as well.

3. Price/Performanc ratio. There are a number of options available for the iPhone 3g now. And I feel this is the best when considering price. Other offerings from JBL are decent units but the logitech is available for far less money.

4. Portability. The integrated battery is great. I used to relocate my onstage on our porch and had to always have it near a plug. The logitech's battery makes it far more portable and flexible.

5. Bass response. This is technically part of number 1, but I am very surprised at the depth of the sound. Drums don't sound anemic and the overall lows are top notch.

Cons.

Not too much to report. Overall, this is exactly what you'd want in a purchase. It delivers on all counts: sound quality, price, features and build quality.

I think Logitech has a real winner here.

One final note. The pics on Amazon's site don't really do this unit justice. It is a good looking piece of kit. The pics use an ipod classic that make the unit look dated. I was initially hesitant to order due to this, but I am very glad that I got over those reservations.

Overall, if you are in the market for an iPhone speaker set there is nothing really negative to consider with this unit. You get what you pay for and that is thankfully a good thing.

I am also used to high quality sound systems, but I was looking for a portable ipod speaker system that could run on batteries. After a considerable amount of testing of the Logitech system versus other brands (at local stores), I determined that for the money, this was the best choice. I tested multiple Sony docks and a few other brands. The Bose version naturally sounds better, but not $300 better.

The Logitech unit comes with a set of so many ipod adapters to fit each model that I could probably build a garage out of the extras. My ipod never leaves the acrylic case I bought for it, so one nice bonus was that the Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 will actually fit the acrylic case if you don't use an adapter. Therefore, my ipod screen will never run the risk of being scratched while it's in the dock.

Overall, the sound is pretty good for it's size. I would not hesitate to purchase another in the future. I also will test the battery life, although I am told from the Apple Store that it will likely only last for about 5 hours instead of 10. I give it 5 stars because it's so inexpensive for the quality.

OK, I didn't see this particular comparison or any reviews that could convince me one way or the other. I tested both of these extensively at Best Buy with both volumes cranked so I could get a clear picture of the differences. The first things I did notice was a bit more bass coming from the logitech, but it didnt seem to turn up as loud as the Altec. After switching to different music styles, from classic rock, to metal, to rap I started to notice some things. At first the lack of top end volume I thought was going to be the end for the logitech for me. I started to feel like the Lansing was the one I wanted purely because the volume turned up louder. I was at such an impasse I decided I needed both of them at home to test them in the environment I plan to use them in rather than a 50,000 sq ft warehouse with 20 ft high ceilings (BestBuy)

After giving both a full charge I dove in at home. At home I cranked up some rap initially just to get a clear picture on the range of bass for each. The bass was quite a bit more noticeable on the logitech, with the altec being slightly better for the mids and highs. It still seemed the altec could get a bit louder, but now that I was in my house, the logitech seemed plenty loud at its max. I did notice the mids and highs were less noticeble on the Logitech, but not so much that I really cared. After switching back and forth several times with all kinds of music the logitech was starting to be my clear favorite. I really liked the depth, the bass coming out of such a small box is pretty crazy, if you have a bass heavy song, it literally shakes the whole player. Keep in mind I'm speaking in relative terms here, this is not a 12 inch subwoofer. I started to feel like the Altec was so loud mainly because it had more emphasis on Treble. Ultimately I picked the Logitech because overall, I liked the design a bit better, I liked the case it comes with, I like the plug in that lets you wrap the cord around it and it sits nicely in the cradle when stowed in the case, the battery claims twice the length of time in the logitech over the altec 10 hours to 5 respectivly. I have yet to confirm the 10 hours, but will update this review when I do. Then for sound, I just decided that the volume issue became less of an issue when in a smaller environment, and the extra bass coming out of it made the music sound a bit more full to me.

This is in no way a knock on the Altec, because I did determine in my mind that these were a close match to be the best "portable" players on the market, made by the two companies with the most experience making these devices. Truthfully, the Altec in my mind had the nod for a while in the beginning because it really did sound good all the way through the volume range. On build quality I would say if you are rough on your stuff the logitech probably will be the tougher of the two players. The speaker grills are a tough metal, the outside a hard plastic, its like a long brick basically, the only weakness I saw was the buttons are pretty cheapo. The altec has a nice design and cool handle to hold it up, and buttons are excellent, nice and big and easy to push, but the metal grill covering the entire front of the player seemed flimsier than the logitech and I could see that if it took a good jab by something it could be dented, I dont see that happening on the logitech. The Altec does had a nice LCD screen that displays the mode its in, the song thats playing which I wish the logitech had, AND it has an FM radio which I thought would be nice for game day, I read many reviews saying that the FM radio's reception was excellent. SO, I almost kept both of them, but the fact that there was so many more pluses to the lgogitech, in my mind, and for my purposes, I decided to go with it, because my ultimate goal was to have a comletely portable player for on the go, logitech with the longer battery life fit that bill better and was a bit smaller in size, then I would purchase a separate stationary player that rarely moves from the bathroom, Im thinking the Logitech pure-fi elite or bose sound dock for my stationary player. I hope this helps anyone that is laboring over the decision between these two. Feel free to leave comments if you have questions I will answer them.

Initially this worked great. Within a couple of months, it started shutting down whenever there was a lull in the music. Then the remote stopped working. So I bought new remote control from them. It wasn't the remote. The thing inside the docking that reads it had stopped working. So now I'm stuck with this thing that I can't use half the time. Even adjusting the sound level is a problem because without the remote, you can only raise/lower the sound by pressing a button and the adjustments are rather less incremental than one would like, going from too loud to too quiet with no in-between. I really, really hate this thing.

If, however, you own an older iPod, this is a nice quality system for the price. It offers a variety of features and accomplishes most of them proficiently.

These days you can define an electronic device by what is does and by what it does not do. Phillips describes this product as a clock radio with a docking system for an iPod/iPhone. As far as I am concerned, the docking system for the iPod/iPhone is the strongest feature.

Not only will the device charge an iPod and play music stored in iTunes, it promises to fit any model iPod/iPhone without the need for extra attachments of any kind. I tried the system with three trusty household iPods: an iPod/video (long in the tooth but with an entire family's music collection stored within), a 4th generation Nano (my personal favorite and purple), and an iPod Touch (2nd or possibly 3rd generation). All iPods are in cases and all these iPods fit the docking system easily without the need to remove its case. As far as I am concerned, this alone is worth the price of admission.

I was able to easily navigate the menus and playlists and raise and lower the sound volume of all three model iPods using the system's controls as well as the provided little remote control. Navigating around the iPod/Video was a bit pokey, but nothing terrible. The Nano was next in responsiveness. The iPod Touch worked the best and I was able to navigate around many of its features.

One of the benefits of using this docking system with the iPod Touch or iPhone is that you can connect to Pandora or other internet enabled services. This extends the listening experience greatly and allows the docking station to begin to compete with nifty internet radios such as the Logitech Squeezebox Logitech Squeezebox Radio Music Player with Color Screen (Black). I had no problem navigating Pandora with the remote control or the Touch's touch screen.

As far as the clock radio goes, I found it adequate. I enjoyed having FM radio with 20 pre-sets and an automatic tuning feature. I would enjoy AM radio as well; it would have been nice if it had been included.

The sound quality is ok. It's nothing like my Bose docking system that issued a mysterious click and stopped working over a year ago, but the Phillips has many more features and is far less expensive.

One very significant complaint I have concerns the digital clock on the outside of the docking station. The most important feature of a clock radio is the clock itself. If the clock is not accurate or consistent, you are lost. One feature of this system is when you insert an iPod or iPhone on to the device, the device defaults to the time on the iPod/iPhone. Now, this is a nifty feature if you have an iPhone and other reviewers have commented on it. However, I only have iPods. When I set up this docking system I set the clock. As long as the system stays plugged in, the clock should be accurate. When I inserted my three various iPods I discovered that none of their clocks were accurate. In fact, in 2 cases, the iPod's calendars and clocks had defaulted to factory presets. This is not something I would normally check.....the time on my iPod Nano, for instance, is not on my radar. If I sync'd these devices with my computer every day, perhaps their clocks would be accurate. Whatever. Each time I inserted an iPod on to the Phillips system, the time on the clock went from accurate to terribly awry. Adjusting the time on the iPod while it is docked does not help. The time is only sync'd once, when the iPod is first inserted. Each time I have used this as a clock radio, I have made it a point to confirm the accuracy of the time on the iPod before I connect it and then double check the time on the system after it syncs.

All in all, this is a decent system at a reasonable price. Time will tell how durable and dependable it is.

The Philips Docking System for iPod and iPhone is an attractive unit that serves as an iPod dock -recharging your device when it's plugged in -and an alarm clock radio. It performs the functions you'd expect from a clock radio: it has two alarms (with buzzer/radio/dock options) and snooze (9 mins.) and sleep functions. And the unit has some nice features: It grabs the time from your iPod so you don't have to set it manually (although you can). It has room for 20 preset FM stations which can be set either automatically or manually. It comes with a remote that seems to operate very smoothly. And it's great that the device can work with a range of iPod cases.

The device does have some issues, however, that prevent me from recommending it wholeheartedly.

1. This may well be -perhaps almost certainly is -a problem unique to the unit I received, however, the buzzer on both alarms is barely audible. You can hear it if you put your ear up against the unit, but there's no way it could wake anyone up. Since the alarm type will default to buzzer if you've selected dock (iPod) but don't have your iPod plugged in, that means that you have to be very careful to either select radio as your alarm preference or plug in your iPod before going to sleep.

2. The alarm buttons you have to push to turn off the alarm are flush with the top of the machine and thus very difficult to find by touch alone.

3. The connector that you plug your iPod into is spring loaded. This is nice in one sense, because when connected your iPod is pushed to the rear, securely nestled against a rubber nub that protrudes slightly from the speakers. But in order to plug in your iPod you have to push the connector forward, then seat the iPod on top of it. After many attempts I'm getting better at doing this, but it was initially very frustrating.

4. This is surely a question of taste, but I'm not thrilled with the sound. There's far too much bass, and there's no way to change the bass/treble ratio. One time I put my iPod on and it sounded much better. Great, I thought, maybe the bass issue was temporary! But it turned out that the iPod wasn't connected properly (see note 3), so I was hearing the iPod speakers and not the Philips speakers. That it sounded better unconnected is kind of sad.

If you live in the world of Apple like myself & my family, then this is the clock for you. The iPhone, iPad, & iPod can all charge and play from this. My family had a party and instead of making a mix CD for the occasion we were able to play music all night from the iPod. The sound is good. Has a lot of bass behind it. The programming took me a while to catch onto. However, it stores the info even when you unplug it. The blue light is very bright, I cover it up at night or else it makes the room glow blue. Overall, great device if you are an Apple user.

Hey, who doesn't like a strong bass sound? Turns out not having control over the bass is a problem even for a basic music listener such as me.

When I listened to banda, all I heard was the tuba. When I listened to hip hop, I couldn't hear the lyrics. Classical -the flute no longer exists. Radio DJ's were unintelligible at times.

After dissatisfaction with the sound quality of pop, latin music, classical, hip hop, reggae and 80's new wave, I decided to return the set. It's a shame, because it is really easy to use, the remote control is good to have, and it's attractive and affordable.

Other users may have had better luck with their favorite genres, but I can say unequivocally that my $10 am/fm clock radio from Walgreen's has better sound.
