Those considering this radio might want to check out the (mostly very positive) reviews of these other two brand names.

I own the Kaito KA123, I like it and have recommended it to others. 3 stars only because I have not personally handled this unit. If it really is the same as the KA 123 I would give the (less expensively priced) KA123 a full 5 stars.

All of the advertised features work but I'm disappointed in a few things;

1) It's been in my car for about a month now and I have had to reset (there is a reset button to re-initailize the radio which removes all settings) it 3 times now. I'm hopeful I wouldn't have to keep doing this. If I do, I will be returning it.

2) The tuning knob is very shallow and hard to operate.

3) It struggles to play CD's that are recorded in MP3.... takes a very long time to read and somethings it just gets lost and you have to switch modes and try again.

So far looks awesome! It is smaller than I expected, which for me is great! I got it for a go-pack. Cranks very easily and I'm not afraid to break the crank when I wind it. Great reception and it have amazing sound for such a small thing. Overall, very satisfied as of right now... Might update it later after some use...

DBTech Big Oversized Digital Green LED Calendar Clock with Day and Date - Shelf or Wall Mount

  • Very convenient for the visually challenged, shows clearly the time and date no need to convert numbers to day and month.

  • No need to be reset if it loses power. Powered by AC adapter (included).
  • 1 year limited manufacture warranty

Great clock for the elderly especially with memory issues. Large bright lit numbers are easy to read even across a large room and the month and day are in word format which is a big plus. So far everyone that saw it wanted one too, I also enjoy the blue LED instead of the traditional red because it is less strainfull on the eyes. Would highly recommend for the elderly or people with poor vision.

My original feedback is below. I must say that I am impressed with the seller, because after they read my review, they contacted me directly to apologize for sending an older model, the deficiencies with which have been corrected in the newer model (dimmable display and no leading zero on the time display). They replaced the old model with a new one, and sent the new one before asking me to send the old one back. Very accommodating, and impressive service. Nice to know there are still some sellers out there who care about customers getting what they expect. My mother, who is aging and becoming increasingly forgetful, is the envy of the floor in her retirement community for having a clock that tells her the day and date. She loves it and thanks me for it every time we visit.

---------

If this was one of the first digital clocks ever made, I would be impressed, but two major flaws I see within a minute of plugging it in: 1) During the 18 hours of the day when the hour should be a single digit (1-9), this clock displays a leading zero -e.g., 09:21 (not 9:21 as shown in the prodcut photo). Really? I have owned dozens of digital clocks and watches since the '70s, and they had that complicaed algorithm figured out already back then. 2) The brightness of the display cannot be adjusted it is permanently set to the "retina burn" setting. Again, the concept of a dimmable display is not new, but aparently not in the $80 per unit budget. Disappointing at best. I am amazed there are not more (better) options for clocks that display day and date.

Clock was good size. Letters and numbers show even when direct sunlight falls on the face of the clock. Accurate even when you lose power. Might be bright for a small room that you need to sleep in, but we use it in an office and it works very well there.

** Update June 11, 2009 **

I just wanted to correct an error below where I indicated that the iLuv wasn't properly charging my iPod. I don't know what was happening when I was trying it out but I really have had no problem across 2 different iPods with charging since I posted the review.

Still can't think of any use for the remote however... :)

** End Update **

I picked up the black iLuv iPod speaker system after doing considerable research online. These reviews are pretty helpful so I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth so that you can know what you're getting.

By and large the other reviews agree with my experience. The sound quality is very good for a small unit. You want to pick a playlist before you go to bed otherwise you get whatever is randomly selected from your library (I presume this is due to my election to shuffle all songs in my iPod settings).

I don't have much use for the remote but it's nice that it's included and it works well when I *do* play with it.

The unit has performed excellently since I purchased it two months ago but I'll make some observations:

the rotating volume and tuning dials are apparently supposed to continue the click wheel paradigm from the iPod, but they do so mechanically and are often a little awkward to use.

do NOT count on the unit properly charging your iPod. It *does* charge it somewhat so the iPod seems to me like it will run indefinitely while attached to the unit. But I've found that the iPod is not fully charged when I pull it off the iLuv. Fortunately, realizing this, I just make sure that I plug in my iPod when working out in my gym or I leave it attached to my computer until it *is* charged when I'm picking up my podcasts in the morning. This may just be my unit but it was a low point in my commute when my iPod battery ran out of steam that first time before I realized what was going on. I'm pretty rigorous about ensuring that it's charged before I leave the house.

I agree with others that the minimum volume for alarms needs to be lower. It would also be nice if the volume ramp-up time could be adjusted. The unit comes on and fades up to the pre-selected volume pretty quickly.

Finally the lights, that dimmest setting may seem dim in the middle of the day, but it's pretty overwhelming in an otherwise pitch-black room. A "Glow" setting or similar would be nice. As it is, when I want to know the time at night I hit the dimmer button to check the time, then hit it three more times to cycle the light through medium and high intensities and then to off again.

None of the above items are showstoppers for me, just 'nits that you can either live with or can't. Knowing what I know now, I would purchase the iLuv again. It has most of the features I need and the price is reasonable.

I spent a lot of time deciding whether to buy an iluv, iboom, iblast, ihome...you name it, I've condisered it. I went with the iluv because it had the most pro's over con's. Yes, the remote does not work very far away, but the display is great. It has 3 adjustable dimmers, plus a completly dark mode. Two seperate alarm settings, in case you have 2 people that need to wake at different times. The only thing I would change is that the display (time, date, radio station) is only viewable while the unit is plugged in. Even if you have the 2 double A batteries in the system, it will only stay lit while its plugged in. The instructions say the batteries are for storm back up. Also, the volume has to be at a minumun of 10 on the alarm. Its not to to loud, but I like to wake up to it a little bit quiter. No biggie. If you loose the remote (which is VERY tiny, probably the length of a middle finger and the thickness of a toothbrush) the function buttons are located on the unit, which is always a good thing. Other than these few and minor imperfections, it is a wonderful unit for the money and I would definatly recommend it.

I've been looking at the IH5 from Ihome for months. After reading reviews, I put off buying it hoping ihome or another company would improve on it. I looks like the makers of iluv looked at the reviews and took them to heart in designing the I177. Where the IH5's display could light up a room, the I177 has an adjustable display, including a completely dark setting. Where some complained that the IH5's wake volume was too loud, you can set the wake volume on the I177. Where the IH5's remote was optional, the I177's remote was included standard. The sound is very good for a clock radio. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this purchase and spent $25 less than what I would've spent on the IH5. Glad I waited.

The only negative I noticed was that the ipod insert didn't fit my 5G ipod. In the manual, it mentions that this is subject to availability, which I've heard can take a while. Fortunately, the insert that came with my ipod fit perfectly. Problem solved. So for those waiting, you can order it from apple if iluv is backed up.

In theory this is a cool device with a neat feature set and sound, however there is a terrible oversight in the alarm-it is way too loud and cannot be adjusted to be lower!

If you like waking up to soft music or talk radio, this device is absolutely not for you. The softest volume setting allowed is way too loud.

I was also not at all impressed with the AM/FM reception.

On the plus side, when connected to my iPod, the unit seems to work and sound pretty well and the remote control is handy. But I can't use this for the intended purpose, as a clock radio to wake me up in the mornings.

I ordered the iLuv after a long debate with myself. After reading all of the reviews left for it, it seemed that many people had the same complaints: dimmer too bright, a noticable humming, and the iPod video didn't fit. Well, they were ALL WRONG!! This radio sounds great. It is very clear and sounds the same as it does on the headphones. Sure, there's not a lot of bass, but I have never heard a radio that size that did. For it's size, it is definitely the best sounding radio I have owned. The dimmer might be a problem, if you have it right in front of your eyes! My room is in a basement, where it is very dark and the dimmer has not yet been a problem. There are 3 levels an an off option. In my opinion, there is no way this could be a bother. As for the fit of the iPods, the radio comes with interchangable docks for EVERY iPod. For the video, there is a card with tabs to make the 20 GB dock work with the video. And as an added bonus, there is an AUX space and video out to the TV!! If I were you, I would definitely get this radio!!

Sony ICF-C25 - Clock radio

Sony ICF-C25 - Clock radioThis is a pretty decent clock. 9 minute snooze is better than 10, I think. I had a clock once with an adjustable sleep timer. This one is fixed at 59 minutes.

I think I've had this clock for 20 some years maybe more. It still works just fine. Problem is my pet rabbit chewed thru the power cord. Have been looking on Amazon for a new clock radio. I must have analog volumn for the radio part. The digital tuners turn the clock on in the morning starting on volumn setting 10 or 12 TOO LOUD. With the volume dial, I can set the volume and have it stay at that volume. I also love that when using the radio to wake up, it plays for two hours, then resets itself. This means if I want to sleep in on the weekends, I can go back to sleep to the radio playing. If it plays for 2 hours then shuts off in the middle of the week, I know I am running really late!

And here is what I like about this clock that made me desperate to find a new one. In shopping for *newer* clocks here, I did not understand the "auto set" feature that will not allow me to set my clock to my own time myself..?? And "auto DST". Maybe I am just a control freak, but I can do that myself, thank you.

This clock also has red numbers on a black back-ground which makes it easy to see and not too bright at night. Has a battery backup 9 volt. Snooze bar is big & by itself. And it is a slide-bar to turn on & off, so if I want to go back to sleep without the music playing, it is easy to turn off with my eyes closed.

And lastly, there is a "sleep" button which will turn the radio on for about an hour if I want to go to sleep with the radio on.

Love this, and I am SO glad I could find another one here on Amazon!!!!

I just got my Pioneer Docking Station yesterday. I've been looking for a new docking station for awhile since my old one didn't support my iPhone. I did tons of research and read tons of reviews before settling on this one. I read reviews where people claimed that this unit support the iPhone 4, which I have. But, while it PLAYS my iPhone..it doesn't charge it, which is a major bummer for me since that was one thing I really needed.

On the up side, the sound is really nice for a unit of this price (nice bass sound, just remember to turn off your iPod/iPhone EQ), and the remote is a nice touch, as well. It has more functions than I will ever use (I have no need to hook this up to my tv to watch movies off my iPhone), but I image for some it would be quite useful. It's a little larger than I would have liked, but it's still sleek and nice looking.

I also like the fact that you can rip CD's onto a USB device. I doubt I'll use that feature often, but it's nice to know it's there.

If it charged my iPhone, I would have given it 4 stars, but it doesn't so I won't. I'll probably keep it, I'm just not as in love with it as I originally thought I'd be after I heard the sound.

The dock where the iPod sits has had connector issues, preventing me from playing any music or podcasts from my iPod Touch through the Pioneer system. For a brand new product this is extremely disappointing! Not to mention, I originally ordered black and they sent me white. First time Amazon has failed, but very disappointing nonetheless!!

Want Pioneer Electronics AV Series XW-NAV1-K Docking Station for iPod (White) Discount?

Love the sound quality. Bought it because it combines CD and DVD, eliminating clutter on my TV stand. And it means you can also use it to play the movie sound, although it's not going to compare to a theatre system, not in volume. Two major drawbacks: the display, which is pitiful. As far as I know, it won't show the CD track number being played, unless you turn on the TV and use the screen for display. The dock display is tiny and basic, like an early digital watch, and it doesnt' do much.

The other improvement I wish for is to be able to navigate my ipod menu with the remote. My RCA clock radio can do this, and it's really handy. So, you can skip songs but not choose a different artist.

The audio-in I use instead of the TV speakers. To be fair, I haven't fully explored all it can do, and someone more techie than I might better appreciate all the connection options. One further annoyance. When loading a disc, there is a delay of several seconds before the disc can be inserted.

It's good looking, it sounds wonderful. Maybe wait for a sale.

works okay with ipods, but the dvd player is absolutely junk, it constantly skips and loses place. I have had the same problem with 2 other ILUV docks. I hate to say it, but we're gonna have to buy a bose.

Sony SRF-H11 S2 Sports AM / FM Radio Walkman with Rear Reflector Headphones

  • Water resistant for foul weather activities
  • Local/distant switch for radio reception
  • Mega Bass sound for quality bass tones
  • Requires 1 AAA battery; radio weighs only 4 ounces with battery

I have had these headphones for about 6 months now. I use them every single day while running/walking on the treadmill and weight lifting. The sound quality is excellent, especially with mega bass on. I didn't expect the little speakers to deliver wonderful sound but I have been very pleasantly surprised. The controls can all be adjusted while on your ears after you practice finding the buttons. AM/FM reception is pretty good, not perfect but good. It has a weather tuner and the best part: a TV tuner. You can tune into a local tv program. While I'm at the gym this is magnificent. There are always several TV's showing different things and I can never hear what I want. With these babies on, I can follow the storyline! The street style headphones stay on your head even while running and aren't uncomfortable behind the ears. I'm a sweathog so the water-resistance is great! I highly recommend this little entertainer.

This works fine, but I wish I had tried it out in person before (or instead of) buying it:

the way it rides on the ears is uncomfortable especially if wearing with (sun)glasses

the neck strap rubs against my collar, so if I turn my head, it pushes the thing, rubbing more against my ears

the way it sticks out on either side is a bit goofy looking.

I recently bought my second of these. The first had a digital tuner. You had to get used to the feel. After about a year of use, one earphone went out. The one I just bought has an analogue tuner, and it is extremely hard to get any station other than the very high-powered pop (and around here, country) stations. The tuner requires extremely small movements to move way up the dial. I can't believe Sony is charging $40.00 for this cheap piece of junk.

I wear these to football and hockey games to listen to the game details on the local radio station. For that it is fine.

My problem is the way they fit, it is very uncomfortable to wear sunglasses also, which is a problem at the football games.

If I were to buy another set, it would not be this type that wrap around the back of your head.

I will first start off by saying that yes, indeed they are a tad bigger then normal behind the ear headphones but they have a radio in them so cut the design some slack. They aren't that heavy unless they are used for a prolonged period of time, 2 or 3 hours is about when the headphones start to feel heavy. If you are worried about them looking goofy then you need to do two things. 1) Realize that they are for sporting, bike riding, running, hiking etc. 2) Don't be so full of yourself that a little added width is going to throw off your perfectly balanced figure. All in all, these headphones are perfect for their function and price.

This was to be a gift for my wife who has a great ear for music. To say that she was pleased is an understatement. The unit is large, but not the dimensions of a full sized unit and yet it delivers all of the quality of a full sized stereo. The base and upper levels of sound are all very good. Received the unit and noticed the manual does not reference the navigation features with the "millions of Points of Interest". The description says it's built in so I installed the unit figuring the "Built-in touch screen navigation system" may be included in the menu system when it powers up.

It's not anywhere to be found, so I called Exonic. I was told none of their systems have navigation even though their own web site, Amazon, and many others say in their description that the navigation is included in this model EX7092 and some other models.

Other than that, the system seems to be a quite nice. The WVGA screen is clear, the menus laid out well, Bluetooth works fine and the sound is quite good. The USB and memory card play MP3s without a hitch. The DVD player works fine too and has a good picture.

My preference is a unit navigation, so I'll be retuning this one.

Pros:

-Amazing sound quality

-Burr-Brown DAC (pretty much the best around)

-Easy to configure

-Great interface

-Rock-solid performance (no waiting when you hit play, and no network issues)

-Created for IT people by IT people, but doesn't require a lot of IT literacy to get up and running (and their documentation is great).

-Price

Cons:

-The only thing I can think of is that it would be cool to have a USB port with USB Mass Storage Device support so you can plug a USB HDD directly in to this puppy and rock and roll. But, this is just nit-picking, and they probably didn't include USB because it would increase the price and wouldn't offer a lot of performance to a lot of people.

Details:

Every once in a while there is a product so genius that it reminds me why I love technology. I had read up about the Squeezebox and I figured it would be really cool. When I picked it up I immediately noticed that it was small. Smaller and sleeker than I expected. It seems to be made of high-quality materials, and at this point I'm feeling pretty unimpressed about the whole thing (since I figured the sound quality would let me down like most digital audio devices... *cough* *cough* *iPod* *cough* *cough*).

My brother and I plug it in to his Denon receiver and B&W speakers, and we power it on. I immediately notice that I like the interface. It's snappy, and the slide transitions actually look pretty cool. The screen is also pretty nice, so I'm starting to feel good about things at this point.

The configuration of this device was a breeze. It auto-detects networks (with broadcast SSID turned on) and I was able to get it on the network in a matter of minutes without reading the manual. The SlimServer software for the PC is also pretty easy to install and configure, and I noticed that they released the source code for the server software.

I first listened to some streaming radio, and I have to say: I was impressed with the quality of the radio stations. I hate MP3 compression (I use FLAC), but the classical stations actually sounded pretty good to my ears. The best part is that the radio stations just work. No problems. No weird network timeouts. Just on-demand radio by Genre, City, Etc.

After playing around with the radio, I decided to listen to some FLAC that I am really familiar with to get an idea of the DAC and the fidelity of the player. My brother and I were blown away by the sound quality of my FLAC files. It sounds about as good as his Denon CD player, and it puts every other digital audio player I have ever heard to complete and utter shame.

There are a lot of things I like about this product. The fact that they release the source and allow you to create custom plug-ins is cool. Everything about this seems like it's created by some friggin' good engineers that want other IT people to appreciate it.

This thing is simply amazing. For price-to-performance, you can't beat it!

The Squeezebox is a terrific device! The Squeezebox itself stores no music, you have to have another computer act as a "server" to contain the music files. This server runs software called "Slimserver" and it will run on any Linux, and it also works from Mac OS X and Windows (including Vista.) I have over 400 CDs converted to FLAC (lossless) and they stream perfectly from my server, even streaming the average 30mb FLAC files via 802.11g no problems whatsoever. You use a remote control to work the Squeezebox, there are no buttons or anything on the device itself. You can also use a web browser to connect to the Slimserver software and perform all the same functions as the remote and more.

One drawback I found was when I tried running the Slimserver on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit on my AMD Athlon 64 X2 (dual-core) system with 2gb RAM. The web interface was pretty pokey and would become unresponsive at times, even while the Windows machine was doing nothing else. I moved the Slimserver and music to my Linux server, again an AMD Athlon 64 X2 system running Debian 4.0 and that improved it 1000%. The other drawback I have noticed is that file format is important. The Squeezebox hardware itself can decode MP3 and FLAC formats in hardware, right on the Squeezebox. But Apple formats (MP4, Apple Lossless, etc.) and others such as Ogg Vorbis must be decoded on the *server* using supplemental software. The two biggest problems with that is, increased load on the server and lack of ability to fast-forward and rewind within a track.

Regardless, I like this device so much, I'm planning on getting another one that I can move around where I like, while leaving the first one permanently at the main stereo.

I purchased the Squeezebox to listen to FLAC encoded files from my Olive Musica music center. After waiting for over a year for the non existent Olive Sonata, I looked at several forums and concluded that the SlimServer & Squeezebox option was the only viable option at this time. After installing the SlimServer software on the Olive, I was optimistic enough about Slim Devices to buy the Squeezebox.

The Squeezebox arrived in record time. I was impressed by its compact size, sleek look, and substantial heft. I plugged it in, and it immediately detected my wireless network (an my neighbor's) and after entering my network's security code made easy by the well designed remote, the Squeezebox displayed my music collection.

FLAC and MP3 files play flawlessly, with high quality. The larger FLAC files require a better signal strength, which is a problem only in the most remote corners of my house, and more an issue for Olive's wireless transmitter than the Squeezebox. The SlimServer web interface is a bit slow, but that's also more of an Olive issue (the Olive can be slow, and precludes the use of the latest SlimServer version).

It is a joy to have such quality, easy to use access to my music collection anywhere in the house. I'm ready to buy a second unit for my bedroom.

I've been running my Squeezebox on my wireless network for a month now and have had no issues whatsoever .

There are many ways to stream music but not that many to do it at the highest possible quality . It reads Itunes Playlists and uses Rhapsody so will work with most peoples libraries. It has no built in amp so need to connect to one .

In short this unit is excellent especially for the price (but not perfect). See the bottom of the review for pros and cons .

Setup

It connected to my WEP encoded wireless network with no problems and reconnects every time with no problems when I restart my music library PC.

You install Slimserver s/w on your PC/Mac (or Ip addressable NAS)and point it to 1 music location (in my case Itunes library = s/w default location). Once slim server is running let the streaming (wireless or wired) begin

Streaming

It has never stuttered let alone dropped the stream even when the laptop that is running Slimserver (with my mp3s on it ) is downloading and also using bandwidth . As mentioned in other reviews make sure your home network is solid before blaming devices . The quality of the sound is exactly as good as the mp3 due to lossless streaming .

Playback quality

The playback quality is amazing . I stream to the Squeezebox and then send the music out of the optical digital out of the unit (few devices in this price range have a digital out ) . So the digital music file I am playing on my PC is not altered / compressed in ANY way . The receiver I use has a high end 24 bit digital / analog converter which sends the music to my speakers = I get the highest quality wireless and lossless playback for under 300 bucks !

The unit also has analog outs ..so you can let the unit do the d / a conversion and send an analog signal to your amp . So if you don't have a high quality d/a don't worry ..Squeezebox has included a 24 bit one . Again great for under 300 bucks !

Mp3s played on this unit sound MUCH better than an Ipod attached to the same amp whether you send them digial out or analog out of the Squeezebox. The d / a converter seems much better .

Interface : unit and browser interface

The unit looks small and sleek . The display is bright and the remote is intuitive but due to it's size the unit will display 1 line of info at a time . This can be a pain with a large music library so the web interface built into the Slimserver becomes a must . This runs on the PC/Ip device you have your music on and is accessed in a browser ( http://PC_address:9000) . It displays Itunes Playlists and you can search by Album/Artist etc as you'd expect . For me the browser tool sometimes hangs in IE but never in Mozilla .

Pros :

Understands 16 and 24 bit digital files (many high end devices only handle 16 bit) .

Understands lossless/high quality format files as well as mp3 .

Supprots Lossless streaming (FLAC) .

Wireless and wired .

Analog and Digital outs .

MP3s sound much better than played on an Ipod .

All this for under 300 bucks !

Cons :

Web/browser interface is not very sexy and sometimes hangs IE (not Mozilla)

Unit only displays 1 line of info at a time ( has to for the size) .

Remote is easy but basic (compared to Sonos for example) .

Summary

For the price this unit is unbeatable for quality and functionality .

It can stream digital files without loosing any digital quality .

The built in digital to analog converter is very good and better than most for under 300 bucks (much better than an Ipod for example so mp3s will sound much better coming from this compared to your Ipod) .

Some less advanced users may opt for a sexier looking choice ..Logitech has some for example .

Or those with cash to burn may go for a Sonos solution ( sexier but 3 x the price) .

The web interface is essential if your library is big . It works fine but is not the sexiest .

for many years i have been a bit of an "audiophile snob", thoroughly enjoying to high quality recordings (kevin mahogany's "pride and joy" is a great test vehicle) on an accuphase cd player and amplifier system that feeds into tuned high end speakers. you know the ritual: walk up to CD stand, look for the CD, find it, check it's clean, grab it by the edges, inster in cd player, walk back to favorite listening chair, enjoy... while thinking about what to listen to next, then repeat the above...

along came the Squeezebox. very simple premise: rip your music to a computer, install squeezecenter software, which scans it and streams it to the squeezebox, and the squeezebox connects to your sound system of choice.

the Squeeezebox offers

fantastic sound quality for the price, and furthermore the ability to tune it to your system and requirements

extreme convenience: a great user interface that allows you to access your entire CD collection with just the remote, and listen to it in CD quality if you have ripped the CDs accordingly...

the build quality is great. and the price is right the audio RCA analog sound has no right to sound this good on a $299 device, really, excellent DA conversion is built in. but if you have a high end reference system the SB gives you the digital interfaces to connect to an external DA converter and achieve truly outstanding sound quality paired with extreme convenience. enjoying your entire music collection and reconnecting with it has never been this easy. it changed the way i listened to music, i hardly ever have touched a CD again, which is a shame given the fact i own a $6k CD player i only use as a DA converter. :-)

make sure you rip your favorite CDs into a non-lossy format, i'd recommend FLAC open source, which the SB handles natively. that will save your music in perfect condition forever. make sure you use good CD ripping software, i have made great experiences with dbpoweramp. make sure you back up your collection it is a lot of work and you never ever want to do this again.

in a nutshell: this thing rocks and works very well.

Metra 99-7503 Single DIN Specialty Installation Kit for 2003-2005 Mazda 6 -Black

Metra 99-7503 Single DIN Specialty Installation Kit for 2003-2005 Mazda 6 -Black
  • Install dash kit for Single DIN/ISO Radios
  • Compatible with 2003-2005 Mazda 6
  • Replaces entire climate control panel
  • Retains full HVAC Functionality, Factory style hazard button, No need to splice factory wiring
  • Designed and manufactured with precision tolerances, resulting in a gapless fit between the dash and the kit

I must say this is the WORST dash installation kit I have every seen/used.

It's overpriced, made with cheap material, and doesn't fit properly.

For example, the 3 AC/Circulation/Defrost buttons in the middle feel like buttons you would push on an MP3 player or cell phone. That itself isn't a big deal. But if you press even even the slightest off the center of the button (for example, just a few milimeters off the edge of the button), it gets stuck and will not reset unless you tap it or pry it back into place. Not good if the defrost is stuck in the on position and cannot be turned off.

The hazzard button is even worse. You have to put about 10-15 lbs of force on it before it even moves. When the lights begin to flash and you let up on the button, it gets stuck.

For those that think I was in a big hurry to get it installed, i was not. I took about 6 hours putting it together (going as slow as I could, as gently as possible, since I read other reviews that the paint on the unit scratches very easily... which is probably true, since it feels like it was painted with model paint you would use on a plastic model car).

Once completely installed, the unit did not sit flush with the dash (even with the radio removed). It may be because the tabs that hold it in place are too long.

It's sad that there are no other companies that make a replacement similar to Metra's. Because not, Metra can price it as high as they want, and design it as low grade as possible. If there was, Metra would sell hardly any of this product. Take this as a lesson in capitalism and competition. So in the end I reinstalled the old Bose unit and attached an external USB device instead.

I would not recommend buying this (unless you have spare cash and want to take the risk). I got mine half price, and they would not accept a refund, so I decided to just take it apart (simple) and look inside. I laughed and concluded that it must have been intern-week at the company, just letting the students from a local junior high school do the design and then just went with the results. After seeing the insides, it was no wonder why the product behaved as it did.

Perfect fit, awesome look, very easy to install. Except the hazard button is a little hard to push, but works good none the less. Would have like to have more explanation to keep the factory clock and temperature display lit by using the oem connector from the factory radio.

If you happen to have a 2004 Mazda 6 and looking to replace with aftermarket radio, seems like you gotta get one of these kits. I just gave a valiant attempt today and was very close to install until I did a validation check on the AC controls. Well, first I had a beef with the hazard button. It pretty much is a piece of crap, as well as the other push buttons on this thing. The actuating part of the hazard button did not work smoothly at all, and I had to adjust until I got it to a barely passable point (I really wanted to put in my new stereo!). When I mocked it up with all the harnesses in it, I found the rear defrost, AC, dash display, and hazards all did not work. In fact, when the hazard button was pushed in and the the AC button held down the hazards actually started working. Bugs anyone? The dash display did not display any AC controls temp, fan speed, vent direction. I did receive the kit from a 2nd party vendor, and the 2 missing screws on the hazard button may point to them reselling me a bad kit. I talked to the original manufacturer's Tech Support, and they were actually there and supportive, but could not help me with my cause.

I'm contacting dealer now to get it replaced and will have one more go. Even though the buttons suck donkey cajones I really want the aftermarket stereo's ability to use an aux input.

all right...I returned my original and received a new one. Although the tactile-ness of the buttons will never be as good as the original OEM faceplate, this one does function perfectly AC, hazards, defrost, recirculation perfect. Therefore I bumped up my rating. Just inspect the faceplate when you receive it. The first one I received was already missing screws in the back.

Insignia Am/fm Clock Radio Ns-cl1111

Insignia Am/fm Clock Radio Ns-cl1111
  • Large display: Allows you to easily view the time.
  • AM/FM tuner: For easily finding your favorite radio station.
  • Alarm: Gives you the option of waking up to a buzzer or the radio.
  • Battery backup: So you can still listen to the radio or use the alarm when the power goes out.

I received mine like new. It came in its original box and looked practically unused. It looks just as it does in the preview picture. It's very easy to set up and start using. The big numbers can be seen from the far end of the room even if your vision is a bit spotty. You can set the alarm to start the radio, or a conventional buzzer. And you can even just listen to the radio on it.

Setting the hour and hitting the snooze is pretty easy. All around, pretty much all I could ask for in an alarm clock. Five stars.

Emerson iTone Portable Sound System for iPod (Black)

Emerson iTone Portable Sound System for iPod
  • Compact, boombox-like sound system designed for "dockable" iPods
  • Built-in iPod docking station with 4 inserts; digital AM/FM tuner
  • Pair of wide-ranging 3-inch speakers; dynamic bass boost system
  • Auxiliary input connects to older iPods, MP3 players, and more
  • Measures 12.3 x 5.2 x 3 inches (W x H x D); 90-day warranty

I bought this as a low cost alternative to some of the other iPod clock radios out there and returned the first one because I was getting the same loud hissing out of the speakers like previous consumers have stated. When I exchanged it for another one, I got the same hissing. I tried multiple cradle adaptors and was about to return it again when I pulled the iPod up very slightly from the docking station. Once I did this it was crystal clear. Turns out the docking station plug is taller than most other iPod charger docks and puching it too far will create the interference.

Sorry for being long winded, but long story short, now that I have it figured out, the sound is fine and for a workplace music player this is just the thing I was looking for. Knowing what I know now about, I would recommend it.

This thing is fine if you want it for a kitchen or bedroom. Light weight and small makes it good for camping or BBQ's. Sound is pretty tinny especially at higher volumes. Not recommended for large rooms or for your only sound system.

This is not a bad choice if you are looking for a clock radio for your workplace. It does not play an iPod as the alarm, so using it as a bedside alarm stinks.

The adapter for the Nano is total junk. It does not fit in the slot at all without major modification and even then it will not allow a Nano user to plug it in.

As stated prior, the connecter is poor. It distorts with the smallest movement of the ipod, so surfing through songs while on the dock should not be done. If you wish to surf, then I suggest one uses the aux input on the back. The clock does come with a cord to plug an audio device into it.

The saving grace of this unit is the sound. Its good, not great, but good. I also like the seperate batteries for clock and speakers. This way one can change the batteries for the speakers without resetting the clock and alarm.

man i have been looking for an ipod radio with digital tuning for a long time. this one is just right, not to much cash for it and it is clear at high volume.

iHome iHC5 Wireless Bluetooth Clock Radio for Cell Phones, iPods, and MP3 Players (Silver)

iHome iHC5 Wireless Bluetooth Clock Radio for Cell Phones, iPods, and MP3 Players
  • Wake or sleep to Bluetooth audio, AM/FM radio, or buzzer
  • Stream music wirelessly from your Bluetooth-enabled MP3 phone or computer (up to 30 feet)
  • Speaker phone and keypad to answer/place calls through your cell phone
  • Line-in jack for use with MP3/CD players and other external devices
  • High-Fidelity stereo drivers in Reson8 speaker chambers

This is by far the best sounding alarm clock I've ever had, but if you're looking for an alarm clock, this is really not for you.

It's more of a sound system with the bluetooth thing for your phone. I love hooking my ipod up to it too.

It's not very user friendly though especially when you wake up to what sounds like a freaking bomb getting ready to explode and can't find the right button to hit to save your life since none of the dang buttons light up. It's a bummer that you either have to wake up to the radio or the buzzer (or time bomb as I like to call it) since you can't leave your ipod or cellphone on all right waiting to wake you up.

I'd rather have a CD player alarm clock...

Love the sound, absolutely hate the alarm clock.

Buy iHome iHC5 Wireless Bluetooth Clock Radio for Cell Phones, iPods, and MP3 Players (Silver) Now

Functions great. Bought it for the Bluetooth function to connect to my phone for music and calls. Sound quality isn't the like a concert system, not very loud, sounds somewhat flat, highs and base are not impressive. But I can connect to my phone and start playing music with 2 buttons. If a call comes in, the iHC5S will display the call and mute the music. Conversations are pretty clear, the mic picks up voice fine from a few feet away and I can hear the other side well. One last thing, should keep the cell couple of feet from the unit as it is not shielded from the phone signal waves.

I read and re-read the reviews for this product and bought it in spite of what some said. I am really glad I have this unit!

The Pros

THE PHONE: This works great with my blue tooth technology. The speakers are terrific on incoming calls and the people I spoke with said they could hear me well.

MP3: I have verizon, NOT ipod, and it works very well, again, awesome speakers, my phone has never sounded so good. There is a 3.5mm input that I plug in to my phone where I keep all my music.

ALARM CLOCK: I have set both alarms 1 and 2, and both work fine. I read that some people had trouble with the alarm clock. 1.) it is NOT too loud. It's a "gradual on" but does not seem to get any louder than the volume I have it set at. Good radio reception, and the mp3 wakeup is fine too.

2.) it seems that if one were to read the directions well enough, one would not have a problem with turning the alarm on or off. The snooze button is right on top! not difficult to find. Also, there is another alarm reset button that will automatically set it for the next day, that is pretty handy. Alarm 2 is for the buzzer only, I have yet to hear a "freaking bomb going off" unless if you don't have the radio station programmed properly....

REMOTE-AWESOME! you can turn the alarm off, dial someone to call, change radio station, holy cow. it's great.

SETTINGS-again, if you read the directions, you won't have a problem. The directions are in english and easy to understand.

con's-don't really have any except the 3 AA batteries included were dead and I had to replace them right in the beginning.

Overall, this product is far more than what I expected. that could be because I have endured "bronze age" technology for so long with my previous clock, but I'm very happy with this one.

Want iHome iHC5 Wireless Bluetooth Clock Radio for Cell Phones, iPods, and MP3 Players (Silver) Discount?

I saw this item come up on I was looking for a speaker for my kitchen. The pairing to my iphone and the ability to receive calls through the system works great. The alarm clock portion is not that good. For no tax and free ship. I recommend it.

I have had this model for more than a year now and I absolutely love this thing! It has two different alarm options radio alarm or buzz alarm. The speakers have a really great sound and you can definitely use it as a small radio stereo system. There are 8FM presets and 4AM presets. What gives it really the distinction to other alarm clock radio's is it's Bluetooth capability. You can really connect almost anything bluetooth. You can pair your cell phone with BT (not just an Iphone)and use it as an MP3 player or use the system as a speaker for your phone, it even has a dialing pad, so you can leave your phone in the independent stand to make and receive calls. My favorite use though is a BT speaker for my computer. I watch TV shows from my computer and it sounds like on a regular TV. I stream music from my computer and it sounds like a stereo system. I control everything with it's remote (that includes the phone function).

You got to take your time to read the manual though, to set up it's features properly, without that you might not figure out how to use it properly.Great little system!
