Digital Innovations 4100300 Plug-and-Play Speaker Dock for Android Smartphones - Retail Packaging -

After my trusty JBL On Stage kicked the bucket, I was looking for something else to fill my needs for amplifying my phone, MP3 player or laptop. My main requirements were that it sound decent, be able to work off a 3.5mm jack, be small enough to be reasonably portable, and be able to get fairly loud.

In these respects, the Digital Innovations Android Docking Station has mostly met or exceeded expectations. I admit I'm a little wary of having the 3.5mm jack hard-wired in, as those thin cables and connections will often stop transmitting sound in a quality way, but too soon to borrow trouble on that count.

The sound quality, while I'm sure it isn't hi-fi, is perfectly decent, and certainly better than the output of my phone. And it gets nice and loud. I can hear it well in other rooms and should be able to hear it over the shower, which is one of the major requirements for me.

It is a bonus that this item is made to work with my Android phone, so there's no need to worry about losing power while listening to my podcasts or music. The Sonr labs app, which is still in beta, interacts perfectly with all of my music and podcasting programs, even ones that are not "recommended," such as my DoggCatcher podcast app.

In fact, it is via the Sonr app, that I've realized some unlooked-for benefits of using this device. The Sonr program allows me to control all my listening apps with a remote, so that I can control the volume, pause, mute, and even skip tracks. And my universal learning remote was able to pick up all these commands, so I don't have to worry about keeping up with the credit-card-sized remote the dock came with.

So far, my experience is limited, and I'll try and make sure to update this review if anything changes my opinion, but as of now, I'm looking forward to putting this sucker on my bedside table, and seeing if I can make it function as a decent clock radio!

ETA: Still very happy with the overall product. The power light, though, is REALLY BRIGHT, so it functions as a decent clock radio/really bright night light. Genius that I am, I solved this problem by placing a piece of electrical tape over the light, and I promise, I can still see the light through the tape! But at least it doesn't light up the room at night.

The Sonr app is still working okay, though a couple of times I've needed to uninstall and reinstall to get it working again. I also wish I didn't have to remember to exit the app in the AM, otherwise I can't get any sound to come out of my phone speaker. The joys of beta! :)

I received my speakers the other day and so far so good. The speakers have great quality for such a small package. In fact I was very impressed and surprised with the amount of sound that these produced. It is more than enough to fill my bedroom, adjoining loft, and bathroom with sound. I also like the fact that they take up little space on my nightstand. I must thank Digital Innovations for being one of the few companies that offers a speaker docking station for Android. Of the three options I found that could truly charge your Android phone while listen to music, this one seemed to fit my needs the best. The things that I liked about this product vs. the other products is that this product allows you to situate your phone horizontal AND vertical. Which means that when situated horizontally you can stream movies when using the speakers. The other two options did not allow for this if you had bottom connecting phone charger port. One of the options (Philips Fidelio) also did not receive good reviews with the android app that allows you to control the remote control which was also an important deciding factor for me. The last option (Samsung) is a relatively new high end product and is marketed out of my price range.

I haven't download the app to be able to use the remote for this product yet, but when I do, I'll try and remember to report back with an update of how things went.

A note to any manufacturer reading this review. I think that these speakers are a great start for a basic speaker dock for Android. However, it would nice to see a product that offers an internal rechargeable Lithium ion battery for speaker portability. It would also be nice to see various options for output power (10 watts, 30 watts, etc..). I am very surprised that manufactures are not keeping in mind that Android phones takes up the majority shares of smartphones on the market. I am also surprised that they haven't wanted to tap into a market with little to no competition.

I received this speaker dock as a gift. It works excellent with my Android Razr Maxx! I have had no problems with it at all. However, I have chosen not to download the app for the remote control instead I just use the volume control on my phone. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a nice, inexpensive speaker system for their office.

I bought 2 of these one for my brother and one for my sister-in-law. One had an iPad one an iPod. They both LOVED it. My brother can watch netflix on his iPad as he falls asleep, then when he wakes up he can resume watching what he fell asleep to. It plays music from the device or FM radio. It was a hit!

The Ipod portion of this product works fine. Yes the quality is not great. I recieved this as a gift from a friend almost a year ago. It has played my ipod loyally and hs been sitting on my dresser. Well I bought batteries for it to use incase of emergency and it dosen't work with them. I plug it in and it works. if I take if off the wall plug then I lose all power and it wont power up with the batteries in it. Guess I will have to get a new radio b/c this isn't going to work. (yest I checked the batteries in another product and they worked.)

Gave this to my son for Christmas because he was also getting an ipod from Grandparents. Nice size and said it did all that we needed it to do, plays the ipod well but the radio part is a piece of junk. Static drowns out the sound when you have it on low volume and it does not matter if its on AM or FM. No matter what you do to the antenna it does not make a difference. This item is basically just for playing your ipod on, not for listening to the radio with. There is also an AUX connection but I as of yet have not been able to find anything that works in it.

I understand when something is cheap, you are probably losing quality. But this junk is an embarrassment to have given as a gift to a kid. The static is louder than the music. It shows an ipod shuffle playing on the box but you need to buy an additional cord for that you discover Christmas morning. And the sound, no matter what the source is, stinks. Flat out, this isn't worth getting for free. I could have used the cardboard box to recycle wrapping paper along with the eventual 'Thanks for this piece of crud' letter and it would be worth more than the junk inside. I wish I would have read a review like this before I wasted my money. Next time I will give the kid a check and tell him it is for his Bose savings account.

I bought this product because I was excited about the fact that someone had created a clock with Android compatability. This thing works, in a technical sense (in that it tells time and charges your phone) but the usefulness stops there.

There is no real compatibility or interface between the clock and your Android. There is a micro USB cable, and a standard headphone cable (both of which must be plugged in for this to work; and by "work" I mean it charges your device and allows you to use the clock as a speaker). That's it. Otherwise it's a pretty mediocre alarm clock. The clock has 4 brightness settings: 1. blinding, 2. way too bright, 3. still too bright, 4. and off. The dimmest visible setting was bright enough to bother me while I was trying to fall asleep.

The clock has an alarm on it with a nice big convenient SNOOZE button in the middle. But if you want to use your phone as the alarm, (thereby making use of the "compatability") the snooze button does nothing. You have to use your phone as the interface.

My Galaxy Nexus looked as if it would fit quite nicely in the dock, but after trying a few combinations of cables sticking out every which way, I discovered that the only way this would "work" wold be with my device bobbing around precariously with all of its weight on the micro USB cable. This made me pretty uncomfortable, as a bump or jolt could potentially snap the phone off of the cable, breaking the cable, the phone, or both.

I returned this thing after a week of trying to like it. But it's basically broken. I'd recommend getting a nice phone dock instead. This thing is a trumped up alarm clock that provides the "convenience" of charging your phone. Do not recommend.

Got this at BestBuy and will be returning it.

PROS the micro USB stand works well enough, and with the adapter, you could just circumvent it if you want to, which I consider a good thing as you could connect and charge any micro-usb device. The aux-in 3.5mm jack also works. The included cord is a little short, but is still able to reach the top-side jack on my Samsung Galaxy S2, which is a pretty big phone.

CONS my main complaint is that the clock number display is illegible. I posted a photo to Amazon of the clock showing 9:19; it looks like 8:18, because 6s and 9s display just like 8s, no matter what the brightness setting. It's possible that this is a lemon, but really, LCD displays have been around far too long to be getting screwed up. For $50, this is an indication of unacceptable quality control.

It's also lame that there are no radio presets.

Volume is great. Goes upto 40 and sounds great. Dock is great and keeps phone steady because my micro usb port is on the side and not under neath. Got it at bedbath for half price with 20 percent coupon because the box is all beat up. But the unit was mint. I like the dim feature so I can finally sleep now and don't stay awake with all the bright light. Was a little confusing at first (but hello, instructions are thrown in the box for a reason) but now works great. Alarm fade in is great also. But confusing at first because it makes you think it is not working. Also alarm can be set to any station you want to wake up to. Or you can use your phone connected to the headphone jack. All in all good clock.

The one thing that made me jealous of the iPhone was the litany of devices (including iHome's) that worked with it. I had this vision that I'd be able to dock my phone in, and play audio off it while charging it.

Sadly, no.

Strike 1: In order to work, the phone needs both a USB connection and a 3.5mm line in. When I think about it, it does make sense, since there's no standard for playing 2.1 channel audio out of a microUSB connection.

Strike 2: As other reviewers have alluded, the iHome can't really hold the Galaxy Nexus with any sort of stability--the phone wobbles in the dock if I touch the screen.

Strike 3: There is no integration whatsoever between the phone and the alarm clock.

However, the thing that made me ultimately return this device was that for no good reason, audio would suddenly stop playing, and I'd have to turn it back on again.

Save your money, get a speaker dock instead.

This seems to be the only dock currently available for the Android phone. While it has it's faults, the sound is pretty good. My complaints are as follows & prevent tis from getting more than 3 stars.

I have the HTC Shift with the charge port on the bottom left. This prevents the dock from holding the phone in a proper position. It sits way off to the left & looks silly when docked. The port is hard to align when docking my phone. Phones with the port on the bottom should have a better experience. The radio has no presets. I switch between a few stations & would love to have a few saved. To allow the dock to play via the phone, you have to plug in an auxiliary cord to the headphone jack. Not very convenient. The built in alarm clock works great. Today I downloaded there app but can't comment yet as it looks a bit overwhelming. More time with it would be fair & I may append this review at a future date.

So for now, this dock is great if you need an alarm clock, charging cradle & quality radio. Relying on the phone for the sound source is a bit inconvenient.

It is just one tiny little button. One tiny little button behind the snooze bar. One tiny little button that you probably won't even realize is there, until it is too late.

I think I'm a smart guy, but it took me and my significant other a week to figure out why the ... my alarm would mysteriously shut itself off, seemingly on a whim.

Maybe it's my fault. I admit I didn't read the instruction manual. But it's a clock radio! Why should I? I'm in the IT industry. I don't need no stinkin' manual!

Or maybe the mention of the tiny little button is not in the owners manual. no difference. the tiny button might wreck you too.

The tiny button is right behind the "snooze" button. The BIG snooze button, the button you smack with your big swarthy, sleep deprived American hand when you're mumbling "forgodsakesjustshutupandletmesleep!"

The button is the "alarm cancel" button. And let me tell you, it is far, far, far too easy to hit, and it will shut your alarm off until the next day. And you will slumber peacefully until you wake with a start realizing that it's an hour later, and your Sony ICF-490 clock radio is sitting there silently.

The Sony engineers (and most clock radio "engineers") had/have the right idea to make you slide a switch or operate some other kind of gizmo that requires some waking coordination to shut off the alarm. Indeed, you have to slide a switch on this clock radio to shut the alarm off, a logical operation. But then, for some reason, they added the "alarm reset" button to the top of the radio. behind the snooze bar. the tiny button from hell.

If you've read this far and you aren't scared yet, the thing does keep time. And the numbers are nice and big and bright, which is good if you're like me and half-blind (as well as swarthy.) The radio reception pretty much is awful, but if you the station you want to tune in is broadcasting from underneath your bed, you should be ok.

But you should really avoid this alarm clock if you actually have to get up in the morning. I've trained myself to gingerly reach out and tap the snooze like a little girl but needless to say, I'm shopping for a replacement. And then, when I find it's replacement, this clock will pay the ultimate price.

I really can't understand how everyone else hates this thing, but let me give you my 2 cents. I think it's great! I received this as a gift from my sister for Christmas, and I am shocked to see that the price is under 40 bucks!

What I like:

sleek, aesthetic black design

nice, easy-to-read green display

two settable alarms one for the buzzer and one for the radio

easy to set the clock or alarm time; intuitive, with both forward and back buttons with slow/fast speed (basically)

decent reception on the radio

I guess my only quibble would be that the single speaker is not exactly Bose-quality, but I have a stereo system for that... I just want to listen to Howard Stern's annoying *** to wake up in the morning. Good thing the station I listen to isn't owned by ClearChannel... Oh, and I'm not sure, but maybe I have accidentally hit the Alarm Cancel button when trying for Snooze before, but I have been known to shut off other alarms in my sleep as well, so I can't crucify the alarm for that.

The bottom line is that compared to most others out there you can get at the store, it really is a nice alarm clock. No stupid looking cheap white plastic, no impossible-to-figure-out clock, option to set both the radio and buzzer alarms... it's all good stuff. If my house burned down and I was looking for another alarm clock, I would buy this one for sure! No competition.

Not the most reliable alarm in the world. As a college student, it seemed like a good buy when I was browsing the shelves at Target. However, don't let its simple design fool you. I've read the manual and I'll have to admit it's not very clear about using the secret "Alarm Reset" button. You have to set 2 different things on this alarm clock in order for it to go off in the morning. It's one of those things that is very easy to miss when you're tired and want to go to bed. As a result, I have missed several morning class sessions due to my alarm not going off in the morning. Try explaining that one to your professor!!! Luckily I've never missed a morning exam yet, probably due to the fact that I remembered to set another backup alarm clock before going to bed. The point is....if you value getting to work or class on time in the morning, don't buy this alarm clock!!!

This clock radio is actually a "Dream Machine" but it does not say that in the description. Dream Machine sounds very impressive but I think it is just something that was dreamed up by their marketing department. The reason that I bought this alarm clock was that it is advertized as having dual alarms. But you don't get two radio alarms you get a radio alarm and a buzzer alarm. I don't really like to be wakened to a buzzer and I use my clock radio to remind me about certain things going on around the house and I usually like just a radio to come on when that happens. And a lot of times I like to time more than one event at a time. So this radio is not as useful to me as it could be. A lot of the General Electric Clock Radios have dual alarms and for each one of the two you can choose if you want that alarm to be radio or buzzer. The time set feature is very good with a fast plus, a fast minus, and a slow plus. This is important because with some clock radios you can spend a lot of time setting the alarm time.

Advantages:

1) green LED display (more closely matches the blueish tint of DVD and VCR displays compared with red LED's),

2) Can set the loudness of the buzzer and radio individually.

3) Can dim the display because if it's too bright, it'll interfere with sleep.

4) Big digits. Important for me since I place the clock across the room on my dresser, so as to avoid possible health effects from having electronics to close to one's head. Also, I frequent turn off any alarm clock while still asleep if it is right next to me within arm's reach.

5) Sony quality.

6) I don't snooze so I don't care as much where the alarm cancel button it.

Disadvantages:

1) The individual LED segments can differ in brightness, more noticeable when you dim the display.

2) Radio audio quality is not high.

3) Quite expensive compared with many other clock radios.

4) The time set feature involves three buttons, fast forward, fast reverse, and slow forward. Why not have just two buttons, forward and reverse, where the time movement starts slow and accelerates. This is what many electronics makers do.

5) While the styling is very nice, more so than the usual boxy lock, one disadvantage is that light tends to reflect off the curved clear plastic front, reducing visibility of the time. Not a problem wat night when the lights are off, but in daytime, it is. If the clear plastic was flat, there wouldn't be quite the problem.

6) Haven't read the instructions yet, so I don't know exactly what the meaning of the count-up displaY when you press and hold down the snooze button.

Now, if I were comparing this sound system to my home theater system, one that will nearly rip the flesh off your face, I would have trouble giving the iLuv a single star. But rating it without such a comparison and considering its small, compact size, it deserves a solid 5 stars.

It was easy to hook up and easy to connect to my iPhone4 and my iPad2. That said, if you have an Otter protective case on your cell, you will have to remove it first so the connection fits. I don't know about other phone covers.

The sound is of good quality with a nice deep base. I'm a martial arts teacher and I use it now as my only source of music during my classes.

Great for your office, basement hobby room, or out on your balcony.

The iLuv ArtStation is the latest addition to the crowded Sounddock craze. The tagline for this item appears to be that it is beautiful with its piano gloss black top and also a great value not being incredibly expensive. Enhanced Sound System is also in the title so my assumption is that it is suppossed to have excellent sound as well.

This item is truly meant to be used with an iPad 2 in my opinion although it is compatible with the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch. The reason I say this is because I have an iPhone 4S, an iPod Nano an iPod Touch and an iPod Classic 4th Generation and the only one that would work with this unit is indeed the iPod Touch. Read the fine print to understand this! My iPhone 4S just flat did not work with this Dock nor did my Nano or Classic when docked.

I moved to the Auxilliary jack which is on the back and all items worked fine but obviously cannot charge unless plugged in separately with an additional cable. I was shocked when I heard the sound. It's just very boxy and tinnish and quite frankly sounds drowned. The sound is so poor for an item of this price point that even my wife commented, "Is there a different setting so this thing sounds better?" Trust me, she is no audiophile.

To be fair I have had nice Sounddocks in the past such as Bose and have the Sonos Play 3 and Play 5 which I have reviews of that are amazing-but also much more expensive than this. I also have iHome units that are much less expensive than this and that is what I would compare this sound to is just better than some of the iHome $100 units.

Where this unit shines is that it is attractive and particularly with an iPad (which I do not have) looks great and probably has great form. Meaning you could have this on your desk, listen to audio through our iPad and watch a movie through the dock or play music while surfing. You can turn your iPad in to Landscape or portrait mode.

There is a small remote control that comes with the unit that can be stowed in to the back which is a nice feature.

Overall, the sound is very disappointing but for $136.00 the unit does provide an attractive base and charging station for an iPad 2. Depending on what you would use this item for, it could fit your needs, but for me looking at it as a pure speaker-the fact that it doesn't work with the iPod Nano, iPhone 4S or Classic (unless using an Auxilliary cable)is a big miss.

I got this in and was wondering how I was going to use it but was overly happy when I found it has an input jack on the back for other divices. So far I have used my Archos tablet on here for the music I have downloaded and it really sounds fantastic. I also hooked up my blackberry to it and it works great with that too. The moveable arm has an adaptive holder for the iPhone and iPod that actually works with the blackberries too. Just hook her up and then listen to whatever you like.

This is a fairly good size piece and is weighty but has a wonderful sound system to make you fall in love every time you turn it one. I love the remote also so I don't have to go over to it every time I need to turn it up or down. Only thing I was bummed about was that I can't sync it to my phone. Oh well I'm due for an up grade soon so I will probably go and get an iPhone anywho.

I have to tell you that I have this in a corner on the counter in the kitchen as that's where I listen to music the most as I like to cook. Well let me say that this has the best base and it sounds like the music is coming from each and every corner not just the one spot where I have it. I'm sure if I had the proper Apple product to work with this I would be in heavenly bliss. Great product for the $$ in my honest opinion.

I love the iLuv ArtStation Sound System. I use it for both my iPhone and my iPad. I love any sound dock that holds my iPhone with the protective phone case on--that's the first thing. But this speaker set really provides great sound. It's not a small-footprint device, so it's not the type of dock you'll move around easily from room to room. The base is about the size of a large clock radio--but that's the space that's holding those really neat speakers. This baby gives a good, full sound--both highs and lows--without costing a fortune.

I also like the little remote control. It has just the basics: volume up, volume down; skip ahead one track; go back one track; pause/play; and power on/off. I like it that way, though. Nothing complicated, which is especially handy if you're feeling lazy enough to use the remote instead of getting up to use the device controls.

By the way, the dock/"system" itself has the same controls as the remote: no more, no less.

There's a neat little iLuv app you can load onto your mobile device that you can run while your device is on the dock. It has a clock that displays the time in nice big numbers and also shows the local weather: current temperature, plus forecasted high and low for the day, and it shows the date and day of the week. There are also choices to view the clock in an old-fashioned number-flip display (if you remember those), or as a nice, big analog clock face, or as 3 smaller analog clocks showing different time zones.

Then there's another tab on the app that's just for weather, showing temps plus wind, humidity and not only the current day's forecast but also 5-day and 6-10-day forecasts. The third tab is an Internet feed iLuv radio station. I never use it. I prefer my own playlists or feeds (Pandora, etc.). Then there's an iPod tab that essentially displays the Music app interface without forcing you to switch apps and go back to Music.

You're also able to use the app to set alarms or a sleep timer (cool, you can set it in any 1-minute increment from 1 to 120!). And you can set multiple alarms, too.

All the app descriptions I described are on the iPhone/iPod version. I haven't tried the app on the iPad yet. If I get to that, I'll update the description.

Summary: very good sound, easy to use, good-fitting dock connections and support brackets. Recommended.

***Late-breaking update: I've added an iPad Mini and an iPhone 5 to my repertoire here. They both have the new, tiny Lightning power connectors, while the iLuv system has the old standard 30-pin, wider connector. I bought the little Lightning-to-30-pin adapter, and that seems to work well for the iPhone 5. The phone balances well on the stubby adapter and feels secure enough in its position that I'm not worried about any potential damage to the power port on either device.

It's a different story for my iPad Mini, though. The device is bigger, wider, and heavier than the iPhone, of course, and it just doesn't balance well on the little adapter. I'm very concerned something could break, so for now I'm not using my iPad mini on the iLuv. I just wrote to iLuv support to see if a supporting bracket is or will be available for the iPad Mini, just like the one they include as a standard accessory to support the full-sized iPad. I'll update this review again when I hear back. I do have the option of using the Lightning-to-30-pin adapter cable I also have, but then I have to lay the device down on top of the dock, which makes it more difficult to control and detracts from the experience.

By the way, *still* great sound. Due to the price of this item, I won't buy a new Lightning edition if one comes out. I'll just use it for my old 30-pin devices, including the iPhone 4 which I just replaced with the 5. I'm now using the 4 as if it were an iPod Touch (and holding it in reserve in case one of our newer iPhones bites the dust or gets lost or stolen and we don't want to shell out the high price to replace it). In fact, by using my old 32GB iPhone 4 as a Touch, I can really load it up with lots of music and minimize a lot of the other things I used to keep on it, including the apps, videos, etc., that I now keep on my iPads or iPhone 5. If I choose to sample down my songs on the iPhone 4 to 128kbps, I can probably fit 7,000+ songs on it. I still have to clean out more stuff to make room for more music.

I think it is super cute!! I love the sounds, the different colors that light up, the temperature feature and its unique look and size. Also, the alarm features works very well. All in all I really like it and would recommend it for anyone who is looking for something that doesnt take up too much space and is convenient .

Has other nice features such as temperature and timer but will have to return this due to the beep.

Ordered from Amazon and received my radio a few days after Christmas. As a radio enthusiast I have been in search of the perfect radio. My interests are mainly in MW dxing and have been looking for a modern radio with strong AM reception. My location is in North East PA on the outskirts of a small city. I enjoy listening to am stations located in Philly, Chicago and NYC. Two years ago I decided to look for a new radio that would have the ability to pick up my favorite stations during the daytime. I currently own several Grunding radios, the G3, G5 and G6 that I have purchased thru Radio Shack. (As a side note I must have bought and returned those models several times until I found a hot one that performed well). I was in search of a modern radio with AM performance close to my Sony ICF-2010. I must admit that this radio is very close and has better AM reception than my Sangean 909 and Sony ICF-SW7600GR. The 2010 is still the king, but I am very happy with this radio.

The FM performance is also very good, however my little Tecsun PL -310 with DSP has it beat. By the way, the 310 also has very good AM performance for it's size.

The s450 is a large radio, and when loaded with six "D" cells it gets quite heavy. Included with it is power adapter that in my comparison added little to no extra noise. Overall the radios build quality is decent. The tuning nob and most other switches seems ok, with the exception of the wide, narrow and FM switch. The display lights up well and there is a switch that will also light up most of the buttons on the front panel. The radio comes set with a annoying beep when turned on, but I found that if you hold the sleep button down when the radio is off it will disable this feature. So, in summary, this radio is not perfect but for me comes very very close with terrific AM sensitivity and for the money it is a great deal.

Out of the box, this radio was fantastic! Then I put batteries in it. AM was okay, but noisy when my CCRadio and CCRadio-SW weren't. I also couldn't get a lot of farther away stations with it. Very disappointed. Saw on another site it's only got a 5.5" ferrite bar for AM. I think an 8" bar would easily fit this radio. What a waste. SW was okay, about the same as the CCRadio-SW, but nothing spectacular. Not bad, not good, average; and there's really nothing wrong with that, it's just not anything to crow about. FM though... FM was great for 3 days. Then it completely died on the radio. Nothing. Researching online I found that's par for the course for this radio. It went back to the store, got a replacement. 4 days later, FM gone again! This time I got a refund, not another replacement.

Bottom line, I'd avoid this radio until they get the problems fixed. It will be a great radio for the price then, but not now it's not. Stay away. Very far away!

I currently own the Tecsun PL-600 and the Grundig S350 DL radios. They are both superior reception radios for AM/FM. I didn't really give it good long test for SW reception since I'd already determined the 450 was going back.

Compared to the S350 the 450 looks and feels cheap. The reception is much weaker and sound is tinny whether though the speaker or headphones. Even when the station was locked on with a strong signal it still sounded weak to me. I read the entire manual and changed every setting I could think of to improve this.

I expect a field radio to have a strong speaker sound like the S350 DL has. The 450 speaker sounds more like the much smaller PL-600.

I like Tecsun/Grundig/Eton products but this particular radio is lacking. I don't consider myself a radio expert by any means but for this money I would look elsewhere. If you don't already own a Grundig S350 DL, I would certainly give it a strong look.

With this Worldwide lousy economy it seems that many companies are flat out cutting costs so much they are now producing inferior products. I know it's happening in the digital camera industry as well. Consumers are buying the older versions in greater numbers.

After having read early reviews of this radio from January 2011, I was a little concerned when I ordered it. It arrived nicely packaged, although the main tuning knob was off the shaft and loose in the box. Thankfully, it pushed back on easily and has a smooth, "analog" feel to it.

All controls work well, and selectivity and sensitivity are good, certainly in the same class as other radios in this price range. I'm using this radio primarily for AM and FM and I'm satisfied so far with its performance.

The S450 is exceedingly good looking and, after a month of use, I don't have any severe complaints, but I do wish the bass were a bit deeper.

For the $80.00 price on Amazon.Com, I think I made a good purchase. It's early, and only time will tell if it will hold up well, but you get a year warranty period, so I'm not concerned.

It's a minor thing and it's really about where I place the radio, not the radio design. All in all, great upgrades over the previous model. No headphones come with it like the 350 dlx. but the speaker sounds crisper.

I bought this product because it was way down in cost at 8.50 or something, and it had 2 separate alarms on it. I concede that it works, the radio is useless of course. The 2 alarms work, but I have to set my alarms for many different times and I have to go through clicking 4 different keys to set the alarm, it is a real pain. Unless you are going to want the alarm going off at the same time every day and don't care about the radio, this thing is a real pain to use, I found myself back using the one easy to click alarm with buttons for both hour and minute and resetting it twice, rather than fumble with this thing and all its buttons. I am still in the market for a second alarm clock. This thing is going into storage.

I bought two of these so that I would have a quick visual display of the time in the different parts of the US, it works well at displaying that visually but it is hard to see if you don't pick it up and hold it right in front of you, as I look at the one by my computer desk right now it is unreadable, probably because of the transparancy of the display allows the background to overwhelm the display. I'm still glad I bought them but I have since bought other clocks that are easier to read and display outside temperature as well and a couple that do weather forcasting. Was looking for a basic clock to show me multiple region times.

One would think there should be a bunch of these out there but not so lucky...

So, got this one (not trying to save $, but simply tried to find a compact one).

Well it arrived, the time would NOT set. You cannot manually set it. So it tries and tries and tries to connect to a central station for it to work, but it never gets the signal. So the clock never sets.

So I got clever and waited till midnight till I put the batteries in it... so although it can't find the server, at least it would be the right time. Once batteries are places shows 12 AM.

But although I did that, it fails to show all other time zones.

Also the screen is REALLY not legible. Trust me and other reviewers. I thought I will put a while paper behind it and it will work...

Nope no luck.

I sen it back literally the next morning. The fastest time I have ever returned an item.

LEGO Brick Boombox - Blue

I bought this boombox for my 4yr old son's bedroom. I thought it was cute, and that it wouldn't be too baby looking in a few years assuming it would last a few years. What a waste of money. Within 2 weeks the cd player stopped working. It won't play any kind of cd's burned or regular. Not to mention the sound quality is TERRIBLE, but it didn't seem to bother my 4yr old. The aux input and the radio still work, but the cd player ( which is why we bought it ) is broken. I made the mistake of buying it from ToysRus...they won't take it back. They will exchange it for the identical item....but I don't want to exchange my piece of garbage for another piece of garbage. I wrote to Digital Blue, the company that manufactures this....and they offered to test my unit, and determine whether or not they will REPLACE it. Once again, I DO NOT want piece of junk! Save yourself the frusration and $50.00 ( which is kind of alot for what it is) and DO NOT purchase !

As the other reviewer already mentioned, this item is a piece of junk! Looks nice and that's why we gave it a try. The CD player stopped working after a few days and the sound quality is really bad on top of it, you'll listen to a different radio station every time you move :-(. I purchased it from Toys R Us as well and had no time to try to give it back yet, but I certainly will !!!

I admit it I am an adult and I bought this item. It had a lot of negative reviews, but they seemed to be written by people who gave this item to their four or five-year-old children. Those reviewers complained about it breaking after a few days. If you intend to give this item to a child, as I'm sure a lot of people do, perhaps you should pay attention to the warnings of those other reviewers.

However, if you are an adult who just happens to like Legos, likes the color of this item, and wants a radio and/or a CD-player, then I totally recommend this product! It has worked for at least a month and I've played it for several hours each time I use it. I have used it both as a radio and as a CD-player multiple times. It also appears to be cat-proof (they have walked on top of it several times). I have it in my kitchen near my sink, which is not exactly a delicate, protected environment. Therefore, I think the durability of this product is fully adequate for a person who is 10 years old or more, and possibly a younger person if he / she is careful. Also, the reception of this radio, while not perfect, is a lot better than other radios I have had in the past. In short, I recommend this product and I am glad I purchased it.

Con as noted by another reviewer, this item does not have a clock. It shows numbers in the photo / image, but those are the numbers of the radio station. A clock would definitely be a nice feature to have.

We bought this for our 5 year old. He loves running around and dancing to music, so he was quite excited to have his very own radio/cd player. We put up on top of his dresser so he couldn't mess with it (he's rather rough on toys). We noticed after a few days that sometimes the volume gets really loud, despite the radio being set at the lowest possible volume. To "reset" it you have to turn it off and then on again. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. You have to just turn it off and on again and hope. Again, it was placed higher up, so we know our son hasn't touched it. What a piece of junk.

I first saw the Sony RDPX500 iP Dock at a big box store and thought it sounded great. It vibrated a lot but the sound was as good, if not better than the Bose Sound Dock II. This Sony unit puts out some serious base sounds. My issue with this sound system is that is not backward compatible with certain iPods. I ordered this Sony unit from Amazon and did not see any compatibility tables on the website, nor did I give it much thought to be honest. It said "iPod" so I took the statement at its word. Amazon was fast and efficient as usual and I received the item 3 days after ordering using free ground shipping. When my iPod did not work I went back to the big box store and tried my iPod on the exact Sony display model. It didn't work at the store either. My iPod did however work on EVERY other docking station in the store. Not an iPod problem. I went home and called Sony. Their customer support said there are some issues with certain generations of the iPod and those generations will not work with this Sony dock. I have a 5th generataion according to the serial number on the back of my iPod. The Sony customer service rep looked it up the generation status for me. Sony said you should contact them at esupport.sony.com to check compatibility. Better to be safe and check before you buy. I never saw mention of a compatibility chart anywhere before buying but the Sony customer service rep was knowledgable about it and knew exactly what I was talking about when I told her I had an older iPod and it did not work on this new Sony dock model. Amazon was great and arranged for the return and credit in minutes. Hope this helps.

I was looking for a piece of equipment for my bedroom to replace my defunct mini-stereo which I had for close to 10 years. I decided to do away with the CD player, the radio, and just go 100% digital with my iPhone. I carefully read the reviews of many systems, among them Bose, Phillips, and Altec-Lansing.

I stopped by the Sony store and after looking at the workmanship, sound, and specifications of this compact system I decided to take the chance. I picked this over the following systems:

The runner-up system was the Altec Lansing M650 Speaker System, so far I have no regrets.

I am no audiophile, so I can't give you a precise description of the sound other than to say that I am very satisfied with the compact footprint and the sound quality. It has no difficulty filling my large bedroom and most of my apartment with no detectable distortion. It comes with a free-app that you can use to control the bass, treble, and the equalizer settings. The app could use a little work, as it does not give you a perfectly designed alarm clock (you need to re-activate it daily). This is the primary reason for my giving it 4-stars.

You should have no difficulty docking your iPhone or iPod with most protective cases, as the docking clamp protrudes sufficiently and has abundant space to accomodate all but the bulkiest cases. It supports the iPad --which I currently don't have.

Finally, I can say that I don't miss my old stereo system. This occupies less than half the space, provides radio via TuneIn Radio App (purchased separately) and unlimited music via MP3 and Pandora App (subscription service).

The Sony RDP-X500iP is pretty much as perfect a complete sound/docking system for Apple devices as you could expect, and I recommend it very highly. I have very few complaints, and those I have are really minor. As you can see from the product dimensions listed by Amazon, the stereo is fairly compact. However, take note that the listed depth of 6.4 inches is actually the depth when the dock is inserted into the stereo. The actual docking part comes in and out of the stereo; when it's out the device is 7.5 inches from front to back.

Long Review

Setup is really easy: just plug the device into an outlet, pull the little plastic insulation cover out of the remote, put your device in, turn the stereo on, and you're good to go. The actual docking part of this is universal and does not require you to fiddle around with different-sized inserts depending on what device you're docking into it. It should work fine with cases as well; my iPod Classic fits just fine with or without my case. In addition to Apple devices that fit into the actual docking mechanism, if you have something else like a non-Apple device then you can use the Audio In jack to plug that in and still use the stereo to play what you want to play. Two buttons on top of the stereo distinguish between iPod and Audio In.

The stereo does have to be on to work, however. Unlike some others that are always on and that you can just plug right into and start playing, this one has to actually be turned on first. This is not a huge deal; there's a power button on top of the stereo and on the "remote commander" (don't call it a remote control!). One annoying thing is that when first turning the stereo on or docking your device, the music fades in. Instead of just playing right away it'll fade in and you'll miss the first few seconds of whatever you're listening to, and I don't understand why it does that. This can be a real annoyance if you're changing tracks manually on your device, as the stereo is actually REALLY sensitive to movement. If you move your device just a small fraction it'll shut off the sound, and then it'll fade back in again when you fix it and press play.

That being said, sound quality is excellent. I find that all ranges are well-represented, with the bass being particularly powerful in the right songs but thankfully not overbearing. The stereo will actually shake a little bit if it's a bass-heavy song. Music is crisp, clear, and sounds great. If you're listening to older recordings or something like classical music then you may have to turn the volume up a lot to make it loud, but if you're listening to modern recordings that tend to be mixed loudly anyway then you shouldn't have a problem making a lot of noise really easily. This is where this device really shines, as well. Obviously as recording equipment has improved then sound quality overall will improve, but this device sounds *really good* when playing well-recorded music. I find that I'm listening to music a little louder than I normally would just because this sounds so good.

The included remote is very compact (approximately 3.5 x 1.5 x 0.25 inches) and is a great addition. Along with having the regular power, play/pause, forward, backward, and volume buttons, it also has buttons to switch between iPod (the dock) and Audio In, as well as buttons to navigate your device remotely. It has buttons for menu, enter, and an up and down arrow so that, if you want, you can change all your music remotely rather than having to manually change it on the device. When you use the remote there's a little indicator in the top right of the front face of the stereo that'll flash white in acknowledgement. However, I have noticed that you kind of have to be pointing the remote in more or less a straight line for it to register. Some stereos will let you point the remote off in some wild direction and as long as you're in the same room it'll work; this one kind of has to be pointed straight-on at the stereo or it's REALLY unreliable to actually register the remote.

To address a couple things that another reviewer claimed, you do not need to download an app to make this work, and it does charge your device. If you have a device that lets you use apps, like an iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad, then sure, go ahead and download the app. I don't know what it does because I have an iPod Classic and have an Android phone and Android tablet, so I can't use whatever iOS app it is. And my stereo works just fine. From the sound of it it just lets you manipulate the equalizer and stuff like that. And yeah, this definitely charges your device, so I don't know why that other person didn't think it does.

Finally, my unit smells a bit like fish. I'm guessing this is just the typical "new product" smell that some things have for the first couple days or so, but normally that's like a plastic or rubber smell and in this case mine smells like fish. It's a little disconcerting when I get up close!

Short Review

Setup is very easy and this fits all supported Apple devices without having to change out the little different-sized inserts, and it should work fine whether or not you have a case on your device. If you don't have an Apple device you can still use this with the Audio In jack in the back of the stereo! The stereo does have to actually be turned on to be used, and the first time you turn it on or dock your device for some reason it'll fade the music in instead of just playing it, so be aware of that if the first thing you play has an explosive opening or anything. Sound quality is excellent, with crisp sound and all ranges well-represented, particularly the powerful but not overly-powerful bass. The remote will allow you to perform all the regular remote functions but you can also navigate through your device with it to change music remotely using the menu, enter, and arrow keys; just make sure the remote is pointed straight-on at the unit. The extra Sony app is not at all required to use the stereo, and the stereo definitely does charge your device.

I am very impressed with the sound from this. It reminds me of a Bose wave radio. The controls are minimal and simplistic and which I like. It gets plenty loud with great even base and a clear high end. I never heard any distortion or over modulation from turning it up loud.

The problem I had was that I couldn't get sound out of my 5th generation iPod. The only way I could get sound was through the auxiliary cable that I had (it didn't come in the box). I liked the sound out of this so much that it pains me to give it 3 stars, but it's being sold as an iPod dock. That's a real problem if it's not going to work with my iPod.

My phone has to be out of it's case (otter box) to plug in. Description claimed that docking station was compatible with all phone cases. When phone is docked, system is slow to respond to being able to play music. Don't appreciate the power cord system with it's large transformer. On the bright side, the sound quality is nice. Would have been more disappointed if I had paid more than $199.00.

We have had this docking station for at least 2 years. I use it mainly for parties and for tunes in the backyard during the summer while I was caring for the plants or watching the kids play. I also used it daily in the summer while I hung our clothes out to dry.

I was very pleased with the service of a decently priced item. It added not so loud background music while we held parties. It was also loud enough that I could wander around our backyard and still hear the music.

I would recommend this speaker station to anyone.

I've had my alarm clock for a couple of years now (3 in December). It was also a Christmas present. Now, let me say first that the other reviewer is correct. I do wish I could dim the brightness of the clock display, but simply turning it towards the wall lessens the glare.

For such a small player, it's a little giant. I've never had any issues with the sound quality or the radio sound. It works just fine.

If you're looking for a great alarm clock that will play and charge your iPod, then this is a great purchase. I would gladly recommend this product to another person who was looking to get a decent radio clock without busting their bank account.

My oh-so-thrify husband got this for me for Christmas and while I'm aware it's the thought that counts, the product really stinks. The sound is crappy to put it bluntly. Very cheap. Sounds like an old transitor radio from when I was a kid. I put it next to the bed and plugged it in. When we went to bed that night, I turned off the lamp and the whole bedroom glowed blue from the clock display. It is soooooo bright!!! Plus, when I look at it at night, the display is so bright I can't see the time without waking up enough to get my glasses and really focus on the display. It's really a pain. I've been covering the display at night so I can sleep, which defeats the purpose of having a clock in the room. There is no dimmer on the display either. Do not waste your money. I would have rated this even lower if I could. Yesit was fairly easy to use but not any moreso than any other clock radio. I do not recommend this at all!

As an ipod dock/clock this is a great product. It looks nice on my bedside table and produces decent sound. The lamp feature, however, is pretty worthless. Pyramid 2606D AM/FM Cassette Player with Fully Detachable Face

Shipped and arrived quickly-so far so good. But when unit was installed there was no power from the player to any speaker. Company has a place on their web site to send tech questions so I did so. Re-installed old player (same wiring configuration) and found all speakers worked. Tried a new Wal-mart brand unit and all speakers worked, so I'm pretty sure the unit I got is defective. Never got a response from the company so I called them about warranty issues. Sending the brand new unit to them cost me another $11, and I'll have to wait and see what they do. It is not an expensive unit so any additional money I spend seems like a waste-unless someone can tell me why it's my fault the thing doesn't work. If the manufacturer makes good on the repair or replacement I'll be happy to upgrade the rating, but I'm still out the additional shipping charge regardless.

Don't buy this product. Horrible manufacture. Seems like the knobs are going to fall apart or break with every touch/turn. Cassette player stopped working/no sound the day after I installed this piece of junk. The radio dial isn't accurate and goes in and out of tune to the point of frustration. The AUX INPUT seemed to work OK but who knows how long that would last given the rest of the failures after just a couple days of use? I returned this for a refund. I'm writing this review with hopes of sparing others a headache and hassle.

So you thought Macs were still those computers that Apple produced where you would never be able to send files that your friend on a PC could open. Well, welcome to the new world of Macs, in this case the iMac. This piece of technology is the sleekest and cutest personal computer around, in my opinion, and the value for money is just great. Whilst other PC's claim to be cheap, they quickly become costlier than the iMac when you compare the processing power, harddrive and RAM. And why would you want an ugly, humungous thing in your living room, when you can have a computer that has a personality?

The trouble with entering a Mac store is not that it looks light and airy and full of designer fun, but that it's difficult to exit the store. It's almost equally difficult to choose which model to buy, once you're finally convinced that Apple's are no longer so different that they're incompatible with the rest of the world. The store is full of fun models and choices, ranging from the budget to the massively expensive. In terms of buying a perfectly servable computer that has all the bells and whistles you need, is affordable and has a little bit of a personality, the iMac is the way to go.

I love this computer. It has a 15 inch flat screen, that conveniently tilts in any direction you want it to, and comes attached to a small base which contains all your hardware (yes! no more huge lumps of iron under your desk that you knock your knees against). It even contains a DVD/CD-RW drive and if you want to go for a DVD writer, you just go up one model. In truth, this computer does everything I've ever wanted from a computer and more. I've never been one to get sucked into technology, but the iMac has adorable features, like iTUNES (I've completely stopped buying music on CD's and even bought an iPOD to replace my minidisk), iMOVIE (for editing film clips you made of your new puppy), and other fun programs.

If you are smart, you will by the mac.com package that costs only $70. This deal has given me more free software than I care to recall, and provides me with online support (not that I need it often in this user friendly environment), my own webpage and much more. For traditionalists, you can buy the Windows for Mac package, which has all the software you know and understand, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage (equivalent to Outlook). The advantage of this is that you can open the same files as everyone else, and send them the files as they are, without having to convert them first. This was a huge selling point for me on the new operation system OS X.

So what, if it takes you 10 minutes to figure out the little oddities that you're not used to, like clicking on the top left instead of the top right to minimize a window, or holding the control key in order to left click. All in all, the iMac software is MUCH easier to navigate than Windows once you spend 10 minutes on the Mac.

If you're fed up with the Bill Gates monopoly and the viruses Windows seems prone to, and wish for a little bit of umph in your life, the iMac is for you. I wish I could convert the whole world, but then ... the iMac wouldn't be special anymore.
