I've had this gps for almost 2 months now at the start I thought it was the best thing ever but after using it for a while I found it had major shortcomings , like the weight restriction warning ,it seams to have them all wrong eg. For 30 miles on I-80E in NE it keeps telling me that the limit is between 1.5 tons and 17 tons and keeps trying to get me to take the state route instead . That was the biggest mistake so far, there have been a lot of small roads it thinks have a weight limit but do not, like our terminal in Dallas it says the road into it has a 10ton limit, the only people who use it are truck drivers !! I have to find some way to disable the weight warning till garmin get there act together and figure out its wrong , all they have to do is buy a copy of rand McNally and it tells them the overweight roads . Another thing they are missing is a lot of weigh stations and it would be nice to get an audible warning when they are coming up . Given that this is a gps mainly for truckers they could have put in an alert for a time zone change like some other truck gps systems have . I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for and given this is the most expensive truck gps out there I'm disappointed to say the least . If they bring out updates and fix the problems I will update my rating because as it stands the unit is unreliable as its routing around roads it thinks I can't use

I bought a Cobra 8000 at first. It was horrible, so I exchanged it for this Garmin 760. I am so glad I did. It feels like a quality piece of equipment when your holding it. The graphics are really good too. I am a professional truck driver and really like all the little features it has. It will notify me if there is a change in speed limit coming up or a sharp curve or even a steep downgrade. I also like how dark I can adjust it for night, or how super bright I can make it during the day. You can get audio books on it if you chose. I am excited about this thing and just wish I started out buying this one first. Garmin only makes GPS devices, so you know they put a lot of effort into making good ones.

Received my new Garmin dezl 760lmt jan 2nd and wow. Once you get past the size shock you get to turn it on. As a 465t user this is an upgrade. Operating system a little different and awkward at fits but then after a day or so it clicks and you see the car improvement in speed and ease of searches. The display and turn information is top notch. Still playing with the hos apps. The weather radar as the other options they talk about with their Android link service are subscription services. The weather radar is $4.99/year. That one I bought and it is great. Sorry I phone users, no app for you yet. Traffic is much improved over part model also. Keep up the great work Garmin

The Dezl 760 works as advertised.

There are some issues however:

1) The ecoRoute HD accessory only works when you select automobile mode. It does not work in truck or RV mode.

2) The unit is very large. It can seriously impact your forward visibility if you use it in a small car. Also it is unstable if you use a bean bag mount. I use the bean bag because I use it in more than 1 vehicle.

3) When you are connecting it to a computer be aware that there are 2 USB slots on the device. The mini-USB slot in the back is only for charging. The micro-USB slot on the bottom is for connecting to a computer.

4) When I connected it to the computer, it indicated that I needed to update the maps. It failed in the attempt. One message I got in the process indicated it didn't have enough space on the device. The map it was trying to install is the same one that came on the device, so I don't know if it will work for future releases or not. I may need to add a microSD card.

The things I like about the unit:

1) There is a dashboard that shows 4 different data items at the bottom of the screen.

2) You can also customize 3 buttons on the right side of the screen.

3) It is easier to see and use than my Nuvi 1490.

4) It has a better receiver than my Nuvi 1490. It gets a good signal in my office downstairs. The Nuvi gets nothing.

I am using this in my RV.

I run team with my wife, about 5000 miles a week. While a GPS does not replace the atlas, we sure wanted a good one. We had a little 4-wheeler tom-tom that worked extremely well. But we wanted a larger screen, larger maps, an easy-to-read screen. After many hours reading reviews online about all the top trucker GPS makes and versions we chose this one. We are amazed at how frequently this GPS is dead WRONG about truck routing. We got a trucker GPS mainly because the tom-tom did not do truck routes and it as a big gamble. Time after time this Garmin would alert us to the fact that the road we were on was not an approved truck route when indeed the roads all lead to truck stops with hundreds of trucks going in and out all day. And time after time we were on old well established state roads that are major off interstate approved truck routes only to once again have the garmin tell us we were on roads NOT approved for trucking. This happens on nearly 50% of well-known truck routes we run. This thing is a total joke! We read and re-read the instructions to make sure all was right on our use of it. We tested it on routes we normally use to see how accurate it was. On one run it re-routed us three times as we drove past the exits it wanted us to take, and all three times it was wrong! It is a shame it is not more accurate because otherwise it is a beautiful unit. The screen is large and clear, we can read it from the sleeper. The audio is loud and clear. While running down the road the large icons are easy to see and to tap. you can use this one without driving out of your lane. It is very easy to use, very easy to learn. The mounting and power setups are also very good. We use the dash mount on horribly rough roads that throw stuff out of the sleeper and this unit takes it all just fine. We downloaded all the latest updates, and even that went well. In other words this would be a wonderful GPS for Pro drivers IF the routing was far more accurate. Yet since a trucker GPS is supposed to help keep us off restricted routes and keep us on approved routes, and since the Garmin does NOT do this, not even close, I have to give it a low rating.

I have to admit, I almost did not get this expansion handset for my panasonic phone set-up. The previous reviewer said that it did not have a backlight for the clock, that is not true. I have it set up next to my bed and the backlight has two intesity levels. So, now I have a great 5.8 gig phone with a nice little clock radio/alarm. I'm happy.

I had no choice but to go 5.8 because the 2.4 phones were causing my wireless internet to drop. And the reason I went with this set is because I switched to vonage and did not want mess with the existing phone wiring. So I bought this phone system with 3 additional handsets. They work great. And the clock is back lit. I don't see brightness settings but the default backlit setting is good enough to make seeing the clock in the dark easy. And the ability to store 5 radio stations and have alarm clock functions is great. I do have one handset not registering though. I am working with Panasonic on that.

This is the best telephone I have ever owned. The reception is great!!!

(And yes it does have a back light on the clock.)

I love the speaker phone, it works great and anyone I have spoken to using the speaker phone feature informs me I sound clear with no breaking up. I also love the different melodies for the ring tones, it has one that has a soft melody so it doesn't scare me from my sleep if someone calls late at night, or early mornings. Not having to run wires to a telephone outlet is another great feature too. Just plug it in your wall and register it to the base unit and your in business. It works great all around the house even the basement.

I very happy with it!!!

The two intensity levels described in other reviews is available by taping the snooze button which makes the light turn on brighter. There are not really two levels just a brighter level (for approx. 3 seconds) whenever an action like turning on the radio or pushing the snooze button.

The phone is great and wa easy to set up with my existing KX-TG5240 phone. Highly recommend for those with wireless internet. I just upgraded my wireless router to the Vonage VOIP service (Linksys router) and needed to upgrade all my phones to 5.8ghz.

I tend to be demanding of my equipment, but I've very happy with this. It does everything I want.

Title says it all. On this, I got what I paid for, an inexpensive shower radio with a digital tuner. Tuning is a chore, as it's almost impossible to hit the frequency exactly. I turn the knob and it takes several attempts to get right on the frequency. Tuner is mediocre, but again, I got what I paid for. Save up your pennies and buy a decent shower radio I will.

Altec Lansing M202 Dual-Charging iPod Dock

The Altec Lansing M202 is a neat, convenient little speaker dock, with surprisingly okay sound for a very small unit. Its strong points are its size -much tinier than you'd think from the photos, easy to tuck into a corner of a bedside table or a shelf -and the dual docks, allowing it to be home base for a couple's iPhones or one person's phone and iPod. The unit is straightforward and simple to operate, even without the free custom app (which is a nice touch). But the quality of its construction is surprisingly cheap considering the price; it's a flimsy, lightweight plastic speaker enclosure, with unattractive, cheap cloth permanently fixed over the speakers, and there are some obvious assembly problems like misaligned seams. (Also note that, though the unit does work with the iPhone 4, it only includes plastic dock shims for the 3G/3Gs and the iPod Touch; other iPod and iPhone models can only be docked loosely. It's a weird oversight considering the near-zero cost of these plastics.)

The sound quality is fine, even good for such a small unit, but not miraculous. Given that the unit is built around two very, very small (approx. 2.5") drivers stuck in a lightweight ported plastic enclosure, the sound it puts out is, unsurprisingly, very light on bass and tends to be almost painfully bright on some music. I found this a particular problem listening to jazz -Miles Davis's trumpet was so bright, almost tinny, that it completely overpowered the rest of his band -while guitar-based rock came out much better, sounding almost as well-rounded as it would on a larger stereo system. Podcasts and vocals are a good fit for this unit, but I wouldn't even want to try listening to hip-hop on something this bass-deficient.

So, this is a nice enough product just on its merits, but its price is a problem. The M202 is stuck in no-man's-land at this price point. Despite the convenience of its dual docks, this speaker dock is caught between, on the one hand, much cheaper units that are about as good as it, and on the other, only slightly more expensive ones that are much, much better. If you want a speaker dock primarily in order to listen to music, there are many others to consider first: units such as the SpeckTone Retro or the Yamaha PDX-30 are competitively priced, better-constructed, and produce far better sound. For light vocal listening and bedside convenience, you can get any of a hundred products of similar flimsy-plastic construction quality, for much less than the price of this unit, that still won't sound too much worse. Unless you have a specific need for the dual iPhone/iPod docks, the M202 is probably not the best value for your money, even though it's a perfectly nice, compact, convenient unit.

[Update: I'm revising my rating down to 2 stars after living with the unit for several more months. Despite the manufacturer's claim that the unit is shielded, loud, pulsing cellular interference has been a recurrent problem with an iPhone docked in the M202. And the endless reminders to install the dock-specific app every time the phone is re-docked are a real annoyance.]

The Altec Lansing "M202 Dual Charging iPod Dock" is a clever idea but it's not really for audiophiles. I had high hopes for this since we have several versions of the Touch and a Nano in the house at any given time.

This dock does allow two iPods to be connected and it is indeed convenient to have a charger that it can handle all of them, as well as play from any of the connected devices, but the sound quality isn't really all that good and the required app for the iTouch\iPhone to mix the played music is of limited value for us since I don't really want any of my kid's playlist on at the same time as mine (significant difference in music tastes).

Setup of the unit was fairly straight forward and required the use of the standard iPod seating adapters (we used the Nano and Touch bases). The remote is very basic and worked well.

What I really didn't like was the quality of the music for my classical and jazz music since it comes out somewhat "tinny", but classic rock is fairly good.

After several months of use, we have relegated this for use as a charging station.

I am very impressed with this product. For something so relatively inexpensive the depth and range of the sound coming out of it rivals more expensive systems from Bose and other top end manufacturers. The speaker system works with just about any iPod, iPod Touch, and iPhone made over the last nine years. And as most of us now have more than one of these i devices, it supports charging (and playback) of two devices simultaneously.

Altec Lansing also has two apps in the iTunes store that are compatible with the system. The first is an alarm clock app that will trigger playback through the speaker system at a specified time. It's a nice looking app, but as with all third party applications if the app isn't running in the foreground the alarm won't go off. Definitely not for mission critical wake-up calls!

The second app, called "music mix," streams music from both players that are plugged into the speaker system. A simple interface allows for distributing playback from one device over the other i.e. it can be set to play music 70% of the time from one iPod, 30% from the other. It also provides feedback as to the charging status of both. My only gripe is that if the mix app is not installed, your iPhone or iPod Touch will continually demand that it be installed for proper operation. Given that that the speaker system works just fine without the app, I don't see why they are so insistent on it being installed.

That gripe aside, this is an impressive low cost speaker system that delivers great sound. A great gift idea!

I bought this a couple of days ago to use with the Ipod touch 4G. I was concerned that this dock/speaker wouldn't work with the 4th gen Itouch since the 4th gen is not listed as compatible on the speaker box. But it seems to work fine. I like the small footprint and the fact that it can charge two Ipods simultaneously. The remote fits nicely at the back of the dock and is easily accessible when needed.

It can fill a medium sized room with sound quite easily. The only "negative" from my perspective is the inability to control bass/treble independently on the speakers.

I own three iPods but had no speakers for them until I ordered this product. I didn't necessarily think I needed something to charge two of them at once (and three using the USB port), but I did want the speakers since there are places in the house with only minimal setups for music.

Because I listen to music on my computer while I'm in my office and have a full-fledged stereo in the living room, I placed the dock in my bedroom, where I had had no way of listening to the iPods other than through headphones. That placement gave me a good opportunity to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the unit.

First the pluses. I don't pretend to be an audiophile, but I do like good speakers for my computer, so any old cheapies won't do, and the speakers in this unit seem pretty good--certainly far better than the ones in my older Sony clock radio with CD player, though nowhere near as good as my Klipsch computer speakers or my old stereo speakers. But for music in the bedroom at fairly low volume, they're fine. The footprint is also reasonable, though with space at a premium on my cluttered nightstand, an even smaller footprint would have worked better for me. I found the remote handier than I originally thought I would because it not only operates the unit but operates the iPods, and with the dock more than an arm's length from the bed (the only place I had room for it), it allows me to navigate the menus and playlists without having to disturb the cats. :) It is very small and light, however, and I fear it may be easy to lose or become a cat toy. Apparently, the designers thought of that too because it has a magnetic storage compartment at the back of the unit.

That said, because I have it next to the bed, I'd have much preferred a unit that included a radio. I have a 6th generation Nano, which comes with FM radio capabilities, but that feature only works when the headphones are plugged in and is useless when the Nano is in the dock. Also, I'd have preferred to have an integrated clock, which would have allowed me to retire my clock radio. The clocks in the iPods are too small, and while I haven't actually tried using the iPod clocks as alarm clocks, but the whole thing struck me as more cumbersome than simply having a clock with continuous readout, which is what I want when I wake up in the middle of the night. I realize that the clock and alarm features probably would be far better in an iPhone or Touch, but since I don't have either one, I have to work with what I have, and in the iPods, they're too small to see halfway across the nightstand at night, so it's a lack that I notice. In addition, the unit doesn't come with a real manual, only basic pictorial instructions printed on the flaps of the box. I commend Altec Lansing for not wanting to contribute any more to landfills than necessary, but it took me a couple of weeks to discover that there was a second remote stashed in the compartment at the back.

Basically this is a nice enough unit for what it is and I've been using it several times a week--I like being able to launch a playlist before I fall asleep. It will probably solve some problems for many users, but I've deducted one star for its lack of radio and clock, which may be more of an issue for me than for others.

Jensen JRC-208 AM/FA Alarm Clock Radio with 1.8-Inch Green LED Display (Black)

I purchased this alarm clock because I loved the idea of the extra-large time display characters. However, upon setting up the unit and trying to find a radio station with acceptable clarity that it would suffice for a wake-up station, I discovered that this unit is of such poor quality that I can not tune it ANY STATION on the AM or FM mode that is not HORRIBLY distorted by humming and static. Even the oldest, cheapest, pocket radio that I own is able to pick up at least of dozen local radio stations with great clarity. Once I gave up on the wake-up-to-radio-station capability, I tried the default "buzzer" alarm, but found that you can only control the volume of the buzzer with a high/low switch, which, even at the low setting, startles the daylight out of you and has an extremely annoying tone to it. This product is total garbage. Shame on Jensen, which used to be known for high quality speakers. I'd return this to Amazon for the fifteen dollars, but I don't want to even waste my time dealing with this piece of junk.

The radios looked good in the advertisement but found them to be very poor quality. I purchased 2 of these radios to put in guest bedrooms and neither radio worked properly. There was no clear reception to any radio station FM or AM, and the tuning knobs didn't work properly. Don't waste even a dollar on these!

We needed a clock near our TV / Entertainment system that was easily readable day or night. This is perfect! It's easy to read in the full light of the day, and it's super easy to see, yet not over distracting at night time. It's so both we and our kids know what time it is and easily with just a glance. "Do you know how long you've been playing on the xbox!?" we can now say with some authority. "It's 15 minutes past your bed time!" is another.

The green numbers were a plus as I feel they're easier on the eyes, especially at night. And the green matches most of our other components mostly-green lights.

That being said, I can't rate this item for it's alarm, nor it's radio. I haven't tried either at all.

I would never use this as a bedroom clock. It's too bright for that. I need total darkness.

For what we bought it for it works perfectly!

We ordered this in October and gave it to my son in December for his birthday. He started watching a movie and all worked well.

The next morning, he started his movie again, and the player would not turn on, power up, etc. Because we ordered it so far ahead of his birthday,

we were outside the time frame to return it through Amazon. I proceeded to call 800-663-5954 which is the number provided with the product if one has a problem. This number linked me to

a customer service representative in Canada. That representative told me that I could mail the player to them, and they would replace it. I was given a file number and a Toronto, Ontario address

to use for the mailing address. I paid my $ to UPS and had the package sent. UPS called me a week later and explained that the company called NESA would not accept the package, and UPS would either need to send the package back to me in the U.S. at my cost, or the package would be destroyed. I called NESA back, and they told me they would never decline a UPS package; we confirmed the address and the File #, and I gave this info to UPS Canada. NESA still declined my package and it was sent back to me, unopened, and unrepaired. Stay away from Magnasonic!

I'm shocked. Unlike other portable DVD players I've read about, this one played both my home recorded, and 'store-boughten' DVD's very well. I thought at first it was DOA, but then I found I had to push-in the AC cord pretty firmly into the unit's socket to get a connection. After that, it powered-up Ok. The volume control 'could' be made to go higher on some of my DVDs, but for most DVD's, it's fine just as it is. By the way, the manual doesn't mention this, but there is a 'nearly hidden' On/Off switch on the back of the unit to turn On/Off the 'Display'...so be advised, in case nothing shows on the screen. Also, I had to 'tilt' the unit at a downward angle to get lower 'contrast'...which gave a brighter picture...but I think I read in the manual, somewhere, that there is a 'tilt-screen' control...or maybe not.) Now, as for the use of this unit under alkaline battery-power: I loaded 8 alkaline C-Cells under optimal conditions: They were just bought at a big box store which has high product turnover...so they weren't very long on the shelf; I never 'stored' them for any length of time (or used them in any other device); I inserted them in the player within 2 days of having purchased them; and they were (alkaline) Duracell's which, hands down, are the 'best' quality in my opinion. Over a 2-evening test, with a break after 4 hours of DVD's the first night and then continuing the test the next night, the batteries lasted almost exactly a total of 6 hours of playtime. That's not too bad. I know now that I can watch about 3 DVDs on one set of 8 c-cells...given the optimal conditions I described above. If the battery conditions are not optimal (such as being stored for 9 months before being used, etc.), I'd expect less than 6 hours of playtime. Also, I used the default factory settings for the screen brightness and contrast. As I understand it, if you make the screen dimmer, the batteries last longer (as was told to me by a different manufacturer.) By the way, an 'AA' battery DVD player that used to be on the market required 6 AA batteries to get 2.25 hours of playtime. So, that will give you a basis for comparison. I hope all this helps. It really IS a good unit in my overall estimation. (I just wish it would take 8 'D'-cell batteries, instead of 'C'-cells...which would likely have given it considerably longer playtime.) And I just don't know anything about long-term durability. (Follow-up: I went to the manufacturer?/distributor? website as printed in my package/box inserts, and this is what occurred: 1) The player being reviewed is no longer being shown as a current product (i.e. it's just not 'shown' at all). I'll let you decide how to use that information. 2) I emailed their tech support department to ask what kind of battery was used in the remote control of the model I purchased, and after 3 days, I haven't received any reply. Again, I'll let you decide how to use that information.]

The actual boombox is not bad looking, small and with a nice screen for its size. But it didn t work. I took it out of the package, red the scarse instructions, started a dvd and boom the dvd stopped working.I thought I had done something wrong so I went to the instructions again, all was ok, started everything again and nothing. A few hours later it worked again but again, 1 minute and then nothing. Expecting warranty, yes but only if you are a canadian citizen; and amazone will only refund if I get lucky, so... don t buy this boombox. I got lured cause it looked ok and was cheap but this was really a bad surprise. Maybe I am a rare case but the lack of service or warranty does not help much... hope this is helpful.

This is a great video player and boombox for the price. The picture quality is great and the sound is good, I am very happy with it. I would give it five stars except for (1) the remote does not have a volume control and (2) you can not shuffle the mp3 files, they play in the same order all the time and start from the beginning each time. I shuffled my mp3 files on the computer before loading them on a flash drive. I wish it had a digital tuner. I knew these problems before I bought the unit but still think it's a good deal.

Update, the video screen has died. I can hear dvd movies but can not see them. I can not play music from flash drive. It was great while it worked but didn't last very long. It was used very little. Cheap quality.

Update. I received a replacement unit after a two month wait and it cost $37 dollars to mail it to Canada. The new replacement was DOA, would not play movies or CD's. This is a JUNK product and Amazon should not being selling it.

I can't say enough about how well this radio performs so I'll keep it short. The Sangean U3 will make most people re-think their ideas about portable radio sound and reception. This radio has a big heavy-duty speaker and enough power to drive it hard. Volume levels are high enough for it to be all you need to provide music for an outdoor party. The bass response is so good, it will surprise you occasionally by hitting a low, resonant note you'd swear had come from a sub-woofer. This is one of the most sensitive and selective radios I have ever seen. The AM performance is amazing and noise free. The FM section picks up everything and can reject strong stations well.

The U3 has several jacks, including one that allows it to run directly from a 12 Volt battery. It has an AUX jack so you can play your MP3 player through it (I haven't tried the cell phone recharging jack). All jacks have water-resistant plugs. My U3 got caught out in a driving rain storm and it basically shrugged it off and kept playing with no apparent ill effects. This is a tough, well built radio. It's made of thick, high-quality plastic and a roll cage to prevent any damage from falling over. It comes with a 9 foot, high-quality AC cord wound on a cord reel inside a storage door. It will also play from 8 D-size batteries. This adds to its weight but also its stability since its shape makes it a bit top heavy. It will tend to fall over riding in a car or boat seat, so strap it in securely.

The few cons are the flimsy door and latch that cover the cord storage area. It also needs bass and treble controls instead of a single tone control. It's too "boomy" for talk radio (IMO). A fantastic radio otherwise.

I've been long needing a new alarm clock/radio for my bedroom now and luck has it that SDI Tech just put out on the market something that I was looking for. The iHome is essentially an alarm clock radio with a docking station for the iPod. The unit is no bigger than a regular clock radio, measuring 9.2 in [234mm] width, 2.7in [69mm] height and 5.5in [141mm] depth so it can comfortably fit even on a small nightstand. Packaging contains the unit itself, instructions manual, removable docking station to fit the different kinds of iPods, back-up batteries for when power goes out [we all hate to see the flashing 12:00 when this happens], power adapter and an external radio antenna. No remote control though! You have to purchase it separately and it comes free if you buy one of their hard iPod cases for around $40 if I remember right. A smart marketing move, but deplorable. Just include the remote!

Sound quality is what to be expected of speakers of that size. SDI claims to be using an innovative "tunnel sound" system called Reason8 [resonate, how cool :/]. They're pretty loud at full blast but I was hoping they would offer a deeper, stronger sounding bass. I have a similar sized pair of computer desktop speakers that came with one of my old Hewlett Packard computers that offer better sounding bass. For those that don't listen to a lot of techno, I suppose it's no biggie. Reason8 does sound better than most other competitors out there tough, but doesn't quite touch Bose or Altec Lansing.

The iHome has some very cool features. Even without a docked iPod it can still offer quite good functionality: alarm clock, radio. On the back of the unit there is aline in on the back so you can connect pretty much any audio device and listen through the speakers. The Snooze button also adjusts the display brightness, offering 3 different settings. Also found on the back of the unit there is a small button for daylight savings time, sleep volume adjustment and clock set-up.

Dock an iPod and things get interesting. While charging it, you can listen to music directly through it, you can set it so it automatically shuts off at intervals ranging from 120 minutes to 60 to 30 to 15. As the timer approaches zero, volume slowly and subtly turns itself down.

You can set it so when it's time to wake up, you will be awaken to the sound of music coming from your little mp3 player.

Gripes:

Remote control not included. What gives? Smart marketing move, as I've mentioned above, but it would have been nice to have it included, given the unit's price.

Even on the lowest brightness setting I still find the unit too bright for my taste. The blue hue lights up my whole room. I sent an e-mail to SDI tech support inquiring about ways to make it dimmer, no response yet. If this is to be an alarm clock radio, why didn't they offer more than just 3 brightness settings? If nothing else, I think I'll find some translucent duct tape and put it over the front display, trying my best to make it blend with the design.

Buttons on the top have a different color than the front display. The front is a warm blue, the buttons are orange. I personally think from a design standpoint the unit would have looked more ballanced if it was in a single color.

Speaking of buttons, they seem rigid to the touch, giving off a loud click when pressed. The round turn buttons for volume and settings are a bit tricky to use. It may be just my unit but I found both to be sometimes unresponsive and when they finally do work, they are too touchy. I think it would have been a very nice feature if, for the price claimed on such a unit, the buttons would have been replaced with tactile wheels, just like the iPod.

Radio antenna cable has a plug that's actually in the middle of the cable itself. It would have been nice if the thing actually plugged in the very back of the unit, so if it wasn't needed [like in my case], one wouldn't have to worry about ducking away 3 inches of useless tangle.

Another nice feature would be the ability to select exactly what song on the iPod to wake up to. Presently, the thing just picks up where it left off playing the night before.

My Samsung cellphone is at fault for the following gripe, having spoiled me rotten. My phone has 3 settings for alarms: daily, Monday through Friday or Saturday and Sunday. Would be nice if the iHome had a similar feature, so if you go to bed late on a Friday and forget to turn off the alarm, you won't be awaken Saturday morning.

Final Thoughts:

I purchased this unit primarily because I wanted a system that allowed me to listen to my tunes as I read a book before going to sleep. I also needed a new, functional alarm clock. The SDI iHome paired these two needs into one nice option. I had $100 worth of gift certificates at Best Buy so I figured why not. If it wasn't for my abovementioned "overdue" needs, I probably would have waited. Wait and see what the competition comes out with. Wait for the price to go down a bit because as it stands right now, it's a bit high. If you end up purchasing it, rest assured that it's a nice gadget that will surely serve you well. Nice features, good sound quality, best suited to be used in a bedroom.

I bought the iHome after recieving a Black Video iPod for Christmas, thinking it would be the perfect companion to my new toy. I have had a number of alarm clocks in the past including many CD alarm clocks, and the important thing for me was (1) that I could choose the song to wake to, and (2) absolute reliability of the alarm. On those two counts, the iHome is a champ. Simply cue up your iPod to the song you want to wake up to, hit pause, and it will start right in when the alarm hits. And if power should be lost, the iPod unseated, or if you forget to plug in the iPod, no problem. It switches to a "beep" alarm which is loud enough to wake you, but not so obnoxious that you wind up in a bad mood all day. Sound quality is SUPERIOR. And the controls are pretty obvious, and nicely lit with a gentle red glow for night useage.

However, there are a few gotchas with this product that probably will mean I will be going back to my old CD alarm clock. First, the LCD display has no "lights off" feature. For some, this will be nice as it means the display is visible even in pitch blackness. But I have a sensitivity to light that sometimes makes it hard to sleep if there is too much of it. Even the lowest light setting (there are three) is sometimes too much for me. Second, there is not a whole lot of iPod integration as far as controls go. You can turn on the iPod, wake to it, and turn it off. That's it. If you want to change the song, you will want to pick it up OUT of the iHome, change the settings on the wheel, and then plug it back in. Not a bigee, but a step down from the integration that most iPod accessories have. Third, this is NOT a "portable" solution. If you travel, this unit will be too big and bulky to bring along.

Overall, a good product which I recommend if the gotchas do not worry you. But neither of these are mentioned anywhere on the packaging or any of the reviews I have read. Buyer beware... and then enjoy!

I spoke to someone at SDI this morning, manufacturer of the IHome iPod alarm clock about the problem of the alarm volume being too high. He said that they have made a running production change to the product which fixes the problem. In the current shipping model, the lowest alarm volume is "20". It can be raised higher than that, but that is the lowest. In the revised model, the lowest alarm volume is "10" and it can be raised from there.

The only way to determine if it is the new model is to look at the box. Next to the bar code is a date code embossed into the cardboard. If the next-to-the-last character is an "R" you have the new revised version. If it is not an "R" you have the original version. It sounds like the change was just made in the last week, so there is still lots of original inventory in the channel.

Samsung T259 Phone, Blue (T-Mobile)

This cell phone is good for those wanting a simple, yet up-to-date model. You can make calls easily, store, modify and recall #s easily. The bluetooth connectivity is good. When you close the phone, the front displays the time and date, which I love, since I don't wear a watch. The numbers and characters are generally large enough. Changing settings isn't so easy, as the menus aren't really designed so well. However, the defaults are almost always ok, so it's not a big deal. One big exception is ring tone, which is a pain to set because of the cruddy menu design in that section. The ring choices are also pitiful. A smaller nit is the menu sequence to turn on the camera is pretty convoluted, however I think there might be a button to push to do it. With a bit of hunting, you can turn off the default silly T-Mobile sounds when turning on and off the unit. So, those are the basics, which is what I bought this cell phone for mostly. For those interested: The camera is adequate. You can take pics and movies. Uploading (say, to T-Mobile "My Album") is fairly simple. There are many "features", like calendar, timer, stopwatch, calculator, (unit) convertor, web access, email, GPS via maps. The more demanding apps highlight the limitations of the unit, but you wouldn't buy it for those kinds of things really.

This phone replaces a Motorola Razr V3.

I bought this phone because smartphones along with their plans are simply too expensive. Frankly, I have enough ways of wasting money.

With this phone, unlike my old Razr, I can actually access the internet via WebToGo for browsing things such as gas prices, weather and Google maps (It has a Google maps app included). Be aware though, that at least in my case a $10.00 per month ($15.00 in some cases) 3G data plan was needed before these internet sites were realistically available. And also note the sites are drastically simplified versions of what you'd see on your laptop. Still, if I'm traveling in say, North Carolina and need gas, Google maps (using the phone's internal GPS) will tell me where I am and gasbuddy.com will alert me to the least expensive gas station. Another plus for me is being able to access a weather site in real time along with an accompanying radar map.

A handy feature with this phone is call blocking. I have some company calling me several times a day only to be silent when I answer. With this phone, I am never interupted by a ringing phone with nobody on the other end. I do see a missed call when I open the phone, but that's no big deal.

As for general use the calls on my end are nice and clear, even when using speakerphone -which I do a lot. Additionally, I was even able to pair up my old Jabra BT 125 headset for even more clarity. The handset has just about any feature a person could want, including an app for social networking (FB, T, MS same data plan caveat as with web browsing applies) and a method for getting email. I like the calendar even though I can't sync it with my Outlook or Google calendars. The alarm clock is fine too. The included ringtones are generally, well, either youth or OF oriented, but I found one that wasn't quite as offensive as the others. The keys are large and well lit, even if the bottom row extends a little too far south for truly comfortable one-handed dialing/text insertion. The screen display is bright and sharp enough for my middle-aged eyes. The camera works and gives a pretty good rendering which you can then send in an email, to your online album at T-Mobile or to a cloud site like Photobucket (I don't know what fees doing this might entail). I didn't try the camcorder, but the same options are available.

I read a review where the writer disliked the shape of the phone's exterior, complaing that it was too squared off in one dimension. After years of getting the Razr in the wrong orientation due to identical front and back surfaces, I disagree. I can, using only tactile sense, tell front from back on this Samsung T259, and I can therefore have the right part of the flip-phone in the palm of my hand in order to open the phone the way it was designed to be.

I text very little, but I found getting to the ABC text insertion option pretty easy. Once you're in a text entering mode, you simply press the R (right-hand) soft key (horizontal bar under the screen) until you have the mode you need, be it numeric, ABC, predictive or special character.

Bottom line? I have a 1000 minute 2-line family plan with 3G data (200 MB) on one phone for just under 80 bucks a month. Adding data to the other line would be an additional 10 bucks per month. That's a LOT cheaper than unlimited voice/data on an Android device ($139), and at least my wife can use the Samsung flip phone.

I wanted just a very basic cell phone from T-mobile and so choose this model. Actually I originally choose the T249 which is not 3G and didn't work most of the time but that is another story. I have really not been happy with this phone. Whoever designed it must own a smart phone because some basic functionality isn't there. I attribute most of the issues to the phone as opposed to the T-mobile network as my previous Motorola PEBL worked great.

In a nutshell:

Pros:

Main display is fairly bright and the numbers are large font easy to read.

Menus are easy to navigate.

Cons:

-Battery life is poor. With moderate usage you get two days at three bars, 1/2 day at two bars and 30 min at one bar. It dies fast so talk quick.

-Battery has also been fading quickly. If I were to keep the phone it seems I would have to replace it soon (after owning it for about 6 months)

-Front display is useless. The clock only displays as an analog clock (you can't change it) and it only displays when you first flip the phone closed. You have to reopen the phone to turn it back on.

-When someone calls you the number slowly scrolls through the front display (it isn't big enough to display the whole number), by the time you can see enough of the number to figure out who it is it has gone to voice mail.

-After a few months the phone occasionally behaves strange. When you select someone to dial it pauses, says connecting and then goes back to the main screen. Even though reception is shown as great.

-Intermittent dropped outgoing audio. Callers on the other end will all of sudden no longer hear me although I can hear them.

-No way to sync contacts from a computer.

-I bought the Samsung HM1000 earpiece but had to abandon it as the volume was never loud enough with this phone. It was OK with the T249.

I had my last phone for almost 8 years so it was very old by cell phone standards, but it was still 1,000 times better than this Samsung. 1) The voice sound is horrible. It sounds like I am talking in a tin can. The same with the ring tones. It sounds like the music is coming out of a tin can. 2) Battery life is absurdly short. My 8 year old phone had much longer battery life. 3) Getting it set up to email photos to my email account was a nightmare. Again my 8 year old phone was a snap. I just programmed in the email address into my contacts and hit Send after I took a photo. Not so with the Samsung. I tried emailing photos for hours. After several weeks, it is still sending me error messages that the email did not go through. Can't figure out how to tell it to stop trying. 4) It has a speakerphone but it does not work well, so I end up holding the phone near my mouth which defeats the whole purpose of a speakerphone. 5) I lost many numbers when the T-Mobile employee transferred my contacts to this phone. I don't know if it was because of this phone (although I've seen others complain of this too; or if the employee didn't know what he was doing; 6) But, the thing that truly makes this phone a piece of JUNK and infuritates me is that when the battery is going dead, there is little or no notification. In the 2 1/2 months I've had this phone I cannot tell you how many important calls I've missed because the phone had gone dead but there was no notification sound. My 8 year old phone would beep loudly for quite a while when the battery was low. But, the 1 or 2 times I've heard the beep on this Samsung, it was so faint that unless I was within a few yards, I would not hear it. In addition, I have never heard it beep more than once, so if you missed that one beep, the phone goes dead and you won't know unless you just happen to check your phone. DON'T BUY THIS PHONE.

Casio Men's AMW320D-9EV Ana-Digi Alarm Chronograph Dive Watch

After about seven years of great service, my wrist now bears a dead AMW320D (great name, eh, really trips off the tongue). I went in for my third battery replacement and the jeweler told me that corrosion had eaten away at the movement. The first time I replaced the battery I learned that the seal had to be broken and the watch might no longer resist water. The soft rubbery plastic strap died long ago, replaced by a superior twist-o-flex-style metal wrist band.

Now you might think I'm dissatisfied. But I intend to order another the minute (or so -I don't have a working watch) I finish writing this review. Why? It has been a great watch. Analog plus digital gives me easy-to-read intuitive time checking, along with all the bells and whistles of silicon: multiple times, alarm, stop watch, and calendar. The outer ring on the face lets me rotate the "north" arrow to a future time, say 45 minutes from now, and I know time's up when the minute hand gets there. (I have no idea why the face ring has compass points and degrees marked on it -to fool one's friends?) The watch has been rugged, holding up to the shock of using hoes and axes, although I didn't push my luck if I remembered to take it off.

I'm looking at my old friend, now motionless and blank, and figure he had a pretty good run. Time's up for this timepiece, at a cost of a little more than $10 per year. Since I bought the last one on display at Mervyn's, I didn't get a box or manual and didn't even know what it was called AMW320D until looking it up on the web just now. AMW320D I didn't even know your name all these great years together.

This is my third purchase of this same watch in the past ten years. I am very hard on watches and beat the heck out of them. I keep forgetting to remove them when working on Airplanes and auto engines etc. I dropped one and the second hand fell off which jammed the works. The other two still work but look like heck. Bands are lousey and break in short order so get a new band to replace it and keep it handy. Price from Target was $20 cheaper than Wally world and that included shipping. Some complain of not getting a good seal when replacing the battery and that will allow moisture into the watch and fog up the crystal. If you are VERY carefull and use the tinniest bit of vasoline to hold the O-ring in place when reinstalling the back it will seal just fine. Also, don't open it up on a wet and humid day.

After replacing the battery for the second time (they last about 3-4 years), my watch had a moisture problem and I couldn't get the fog out of it... the o-ring probably wasn't sealed well. So I gave that one up and bought another just like it. I've had this one for about 4 years now and still think its the perfect watch. It has the digital window with dates, alternate times, and stop watch yet still has an attractive traditional watch style. The only drawback to the standard features is the band... I've found that it lasts only about a year and a half before it breaks... you will definitely want to get a fabric sports band when the stock one gives out.

edit 9feb06 Just wanted to edit this post (nearly two years later) to let readers know I am now on my third one! My second one is now about 6 years old I guess and had some scratches on the glass and bezel and was looking a bit too beat up to be wearing out on the town. My wife was looking for another Christmas gift for me and saw that I had this on my Amazon wish list so she got it for me. I noticed when she gave it to me that it had a slightly more dark golden face with significantly more luminescent hour markers than my old one. I don't know if this was a tweak by Casio or because my old one just faded. Either way, I really like the new look. So now I have one for the field and one for the town. I still think its a great watch.

And to answer a comment by another reviewer about the compass dial, it can be used with the sun and your hour hand to help find direction. Point your hour hand at the sun and half way between the hour hand and 12:00 is, roughly, south (in the northern hemisphere). The compass dial can be used from there to get approximate bearings. Google "survival and finding direction" and you'll get a better explanation than I can give I'm sure.

too funny that the other reviews were much like my own opinions.

i own a $6000 rolex, but my casio died recently when the time adjust went awry. i wore this watch for essentially 14 years, and wore it on all sorts of different occasions.

for the price, and for the value, it is second to none. you need a big wrist tho, as its a big watch. i have looked at hundreds of watches since then, but keep coming back to this one.

When I was in military service, it is the only watch I trust. It wakes me up, withstands lots of abuse, and never lets me down.

This is a great gadget. But... Unfortunately the 3.5mm Plugin does not plug into my LG Revolution. But it works fine with the Iphone or I assume most other phones... It may just be my phones design. That is a major setback for myself. I had to buy an "extension chord" so that it could plug into my phone without falling out every time the phone is nudged minutely. IF it fit my phone I would rate this product at the 5 star... But unfortunately it is not compatible with my LG Revolution.

This kitchen radio looks nice, but is TERRIBLE! I installed the radio to then find out that it does not pick up any station clearly, no matter the location in my kitchen or entire house for that matter. Additionally, the stations it did pick up were more than 50 mHz away from the indicated station. This radio is a disgrace to all radios. My $5 clock radio killed it self so it would not have to share any of the same stations with this piece of junk. Do not buy this kitchen radio. Do not even look at it. Stop it. Stop looking at it...

I am very disappointed with this product...the CD player broke very quickly. I only used it occassionally in the kitchen, maybe two or three times a week in the mornings. So no extended use, and it still broke within about 3 months. The warranty covers it for 90 days, and you have to prepay $7 to get it returned back to you after providing all the needed documentation. Definitely not worth the time or frustration....do yourself a favor and spend the little extra to get a better quality CD/Radio player....

This is one of the cheapest sounding pieces of crap that I've ever heard. I can't believe I drilled 4 wholes into the bottom of my cabinet to hang it only to take it down and put my 30 year old radio with a cassette player in it back up. I think I gave $5.99 for it when I bought that thing. I really need to just send it back.

This is the worst piece of garbage I have ever held in my hands. The first one I sent to me did not receive AM stations. 'Sorry if this is not important to you. I purchased this for my parents' kitchen so they could hear the news while having breakfast. FM had poor reception but worked to a marginally acceptable level. I never tried the CD player. Unit number one was returned. Unit number two arrives today and the AM works but it is HORRIBLE. I am in New York City (not in farm country) and every radio I own can receive numerous major stations without hash or static noise. Not this radio. Unlistenable due to interference, no matter where the unit is placed, or how it is oriented. I literally have a 40 year old AM/FM table radioi that blows this piece of junk out of the water. If AM listening is of any importance to you you will be disappointed. Oh yeah, and all this AFTER I drilled mounting holes in a kitchen cabinet. Shame on me -I should have tried the radio before drilling, but I didn't think it'd be a total piece of crap.

Nokia technical support, phone features, and website access to options without nickle-and-diming you really stands out.

Cons:

Speakerphone could be louder (however new FCC rulings place limitations on US Version phones with this capability so Nokia is simply abiding by the FCC).

Voice dialing gets it right about 80% of the time.

Using Nokia PC Sync software may still not allow you to Sync with the phone. Was unable to get this problem resolved.

For the most part am very pleased with the phone. My only serious disappointment is my inability to Sync, however that may be unique to myself. Am very pleased with the extent of service by Nokia technical support in providing guidance and support, and appreciate the Nokia website which offers various extras (software and other downloads) free of charge when other manufacturers expect you to purchase some of the same options to fully utilize the features of their phones.

I also commend Amazon.com customer and wireless services personnel for their attentiveness and dedication to true customer service!

The Nokia 5310, aka "The Music Xpress", is one nifty little phone! Sure, it's no iPhone, but if you want something that got just about as many bells and whistles for a little less money, you want this phone.

The 5130 is available in purple, orange, red and blue (I own the purple). It's very thin and small, but fits easily in the palm of your hand and doesn't give the impression it's going to fall apart if you look at it cross-eyed.

The buttons are raised up just a bit. The display is bright and vibrant. If you have T-Mobile service with this phone, you'll find it can handle the My Favorites plan just fine, with nice little icons and customizable options fo each person.

The phone has several nifty features, including a 2 megapixel camera that takes good-to-very-good quality pictures. It can also function as a video camera, doing both sound and image. There's no flash or self-portrait mirror, but you can make do. The screen acts as a view finder, of course. There's also four different levels of zoom and several different video effects (like black and white, negative, false color, etc). There's a nifty little mini-USB port you can use to move your files to a computer (assuming you have a cable. Thankfully the phone comes with one).

There's also the usual selection of programs, like a calculator, alarm clock, organizer, etc. The system also comes with a few game demos, none of which are particularly memorable.

Ah, but you want to know about the biggie, right? You want to know all about the music capability!

Well, this phone doesn't disapoint. There's external music controls and an external volume control. You can turn it up loud enough to annoy the people next door if you really try. There's also a headphone jack that, thankfully, allows for normal headphones to be used. I have a neat little set I got on a Delta flight, and they work just fine.

When I bought the phone it came with the USB cable I mentioned earlier, as well as a stereo hands-free headset with a detachable mic, and, joy of joys, a 1 gigabyte memory card! That's a really nice thing to have! I've got quite a bit of music on mine and it isn't even close to being filled. Tiny card, too. About the size of a fingernail.

Overall there's no real reason not to recommend this phone. It's sleek and stylish, has a great price point, comes with plenty of goodies and plays music very, very well. It's worth every penny I paid for it, and that's not something I can often say!

Love the compact size... automatically locks when not in use... 4GB of music and videos... great screen and input keys. I'd change the location of the volume controls, currently you have to reposition your hold to change the volume. The PC Sync took some work to get it working with Outlook but now it works like a charm. (Quick tip: try syncing without the SIM and SD card the first time, it'll force the software to reset)

This is a great Phone I love mine, but I get so frustrated that Nokia didn't finish their work.

Since the iPhone I have started to expect more from a phone then basic functionality. I don't want a phone, I want an extension to my computer. If life happens and I will miss a meeting I want the numbers and contact information so that I can reschedule my life on the fly. Apple get this. Nokia sells tons and tons of phones, yet they seem to be too busy to do one phone to completion. I have contemplated moving to the iPhone like my wife but the size and capabilities of this phone keep me from making the leap.

What I like about this phone:

1) Size: Nothing beats the size. You don't even know you have a phone on you.

2) Bluetooth: This phone support file transfer and stereo headsets. Two things the iPhone can't do.

3) Cut and Paste: Basic functionality that I have come to expect that is missing on the iPhone. This phone support cut and paste

4) Sound: This things sounds great with apple ear buds! And it has decent sound without a headset (remember it is like 7mm thin)

5) battery: At the end of the day my battery is still full. Last month I talked on the phone all day. Took and over night train to shanghai. I listened to music on the train and then talked the next day on the phone. Amazing!

6) AAC support: This phone can play unencrypted AAC files from iTunes.

What I don't like...

1) Wont sync with Mac. Worse yet People on the net say creating a sync profile is easy! So why doesn't Nokia do it!!!

1.a) won't sync with iCal (very important)

1.b) Won't sync with Address Book (very important)

1.c) Won't sync with iTunes (less important)

Nokia, Apple is eating your lunch. Finish the job. You have a very good product finish it out. Continue to release software for the product. The rules are changing.
