INNOO 7 LED Color Change Digital Alarm Thermometer Clock

<span id='btAsinTitle'>INNOO 7 LED Color Change Digital Alarm Thermometer Clock</span>I bought this for a kids room so she could see the time at night, plus it looked like a fun little kids clock. It arrived fast and for about $5 shipped was perfect.

The product description says it runs on batteries and AC adapter. While it doesn't say it includes this adapter I assumed it did. Well, it does not. I did have an extra laying around but in the end Im using the battery only power for now.

I does come with the 2 cell batteries which power the display but you have to provide the 4 aaa batteries for the glow effect.

The glowing is very bright and looks good.

One nice feature is that you can set the clock to only glow when you touch it lightly. This way if it is within reach during the night you can tap it for the glow effect and to see the time. This should save on the battery drain. You could also leave it on 24/7 if you want, in that case you would probably want to get an AC adapter.

The instructions are written in broken English, very comical to read. Not that you need them to setup but still funny. I only read them to see if the AC adapter was supposed to be included.

In the end, great buy for a $5 novelty clock.

Most importantly, you cannot unset the alarm. You can change the time, but you can not remove the alarm altogether. In fact, my device goes off at a number of different times. I know not why. This is a simple device. You wouldn't expect to need to read directions, but, as I wanted the damned alarm to stop, I did. Of course, the directions are poorly translated from another language.

Aside from this, the clock is pretty neat for what you pay for. The numbers are large and easy to read. It also features a fun multi-color lighting affect. It's great for kids. ...kids that can never sleep in, even over the weekend. The clock & alarm will operate just fine w/the two small batteries it comes with. If you want the cool lighting affect, you'll need two triple-a batteries. Unfortunately, the setting buttons are on the bottom, they're tiny, difficult to press & are the same color as the unit, so it's difficult to see/set.

The cool lighting and big numbers matter not when I must remove the batteries or remove from my room altogether, just to sleep in over the weekend. This is not a cost issue. This is poorly designed. RIDICULOUS.

Good price, good value.

I like how it's a clear plastic white. (I drew on it :P)

Very practical clock. The font is clear. It has a lot of functions on it.

The only thing that I did not really like was the alarm clock. Setting it was easy, but when it comes morning and it starts ringing, it's really hard to turn it off since I always forget which button to press. Besides, the buttons are on the bottom, which makes it even harder to access. (Or maybe I'm just used to the ones with a button on the top for snoozing or stop..)

Overall though, I would recommend it.

scrap the instructions, as they are virtually useless. However, experiment with the buttons a bit and you'll see what does what. I've used it for quite a while, and barring dropping it on the floor, it works wonderfully. I've had it for half a year now. I love how i can tap it and it will glow. I will be taking this with me for college =D

This clock is pretty easy to use. The instructions don't necessarily make a lot of sense, being poorly translated, but you get the essential information in order to use it.

The tempurature can be C or F; the alarm can be turned off and has different sounds, you can change the amount of time the "sleep" runs for; you can turn the glow on continuously or it will only glow when you tap the top of the clock.

One thing that isn't great about it being for my toddler is that if she grabs a hold of it and starts playing with it, she can easily change the time and settings, as it only requires the press of a button rather than 'traditional' hold one and press another.

My daughter was thrilled with this clock when we got it and loves watching the colors change.

It takes 4 AAA batteries, or the power adapter is sold separately. I have had the clock about a week and only turn the glow on continuously at night as a sort of nightlight. The batteries haven't died yet, but I wonder how long they will last if I continue to turn the glow on all night.

The shipping is slow, but it came from China. It was only 5 dollars, so I really feel I got my moneys worth!!!

JBL On Time 200P Loudspeaker iPod Dock and Clock Radio for iPhone (Black)

JBL On Time 200P Loudspeaker iPod Dock and Clock Radio for iPhone
  • Compatible with all docking versions of the iPod and all iPhone models
  • Easy volume and source touch controls--system remembers your last setting after shutdown
  • Wake to your favorite song from your iPod or iPhone or a buzzer alarm
  • Large backlit LCD with automatic dimming, for easy viewing and menu navigation in any environment
  • Backup battery allows alarm function to operate in the event of power outage

A week ago, my trustworthy old clock/radio/CD player finally died after over 10 years of faithful service. When I started looking for a replacement clock/radio, I realized that I didn't care about having a CD player any more, but it would be really useful if I could use it as a docking station/speaker to play music on my iPod or iPhone.

For me, the most frustrating obstacle that I ran into as I searched through various products and reviews was a lack of comprehensive and accurate information regarding compatibility with different iPod/iPhone models! I have a 3rd generation iPod nano and an iPhone 4, and I wanted a dock that would be compatible with either device. For several docking stations, I found that Amazon, the Apple store and the manufacturer's own website had 3 different versions of which iPods/iPhones the dock was supposedly compatible with so which should I believe?

In the end, I was debating between the iHome iP90 and the JBL On Time 200P, and the compatibility issue ended up being the deciding factor. Several reviewers commented that the iHome iP90 only came with docking inserts for a few iPod/iPhone models (not including the iPhone 4), so they had to visit the iHome website to purchase an additional insert to fit the iPhone 4 that cost an extra $5.99 plus shipping. If I'm already paying for a pricy docking station, I want it to be compatible with my devices out of the box; I don't want to mess around with ordering and paying for extra inserts. Since the JBL On Time 200P was advertised on several websites as being compatible with all docking versions of iPod/iPhone, I decided to see for myself... And it was!

**PROS**

1. Compatibility!! Box contains multiple inserts/adaptors that make it compatible with ALL current docking versions of iPod/iPhone. I was able to plug in both my iPod nano 3rd gen and my iPhone 4 with no problems, and listen to music while they charged at the same time!

2. Great overall sound quality (see CONS section for exceptions).

3. Very sleek and stylish design.

4. Bright blue display makes the time clearly visible from across the room. (That said, I put my JBL On Time 200P in the kitchen but if you want to use this device in the bedroom as an alarm clock, I'm not sure whether the display would be too bright...)

5. Simple and clear instruction manual easy to program/use.

6. You can receive incoming calls while the iPhone is plugged into the docking station. Whatever you're listening to gets automatically muted, and the iPhone rings just like normal!

**CONS**

1. The lowest volume setting is not as quiet as I would like I can still hear it clearly in the next room.

2. The sound quality gets a bit distorted if you turn the volume all the way up.

Overall conclusion: I'm very satisfied with the JBL On Time 200P and would definitely recommend it, especially if you've got multiple different iPod/iPhone models and want a device that's compatible with all of them.

Buy JBL On Time 200P Loudspeaker iPod Dock and Clock Radio for iPhone (Black) Now

I bought this unit mainly because I needed an alarm clock and wanted one packaged with a radio and iphone dock. That being said, this was almost the perfect unit except for one major thing and a few quibbles.

The major problem: the display is waaay too bright!!! I buy an alarm clock for the purpose of waking me up at a very specific time, not to keep me awake all through the night. You can adjust the brightness, but even at it's lowest setting, a blue glow is cast throughout most of my bedroom (12 x 12 feet). It's really mind boggling that the designers could over look this. I'm not the type of person who needs to sleep in pitch black darkness. I can tolerate a night light plugged in by the bed, but the display is way brighter than that.

You can turn off the display completely, but I think it's inconvenient and somewhat illogical. With the display off, it's hard to find the buttons to push in the first place since it's now... dark in the room. Furthermore, it is a clock after all and I would like to know the time without having to push a button... if I could find the buttons in the dark.

PROS:

-Has radio and iphone dock (3G,4)

-Great sound for it's size

-Compact size and stylish

-Has remote

-Backup battery

CONS:

-Display is too bright.

-As others have stated, the alarm is very loud!

-There is no single button surfing for radio presets. You have to hit three buttons to go from one preset to the next. Idiotic. I thought presets were supposed to be convenient.

I bought this alarm clock/speaker from 6ave on Amazon 2 weeks ago and am very happy.

The only problem I have, which is mentioned in other reviews, is that the lowest volume setting is a little loud when the house is quiet in the morning and other people are sleeping. It also automatically keeps increasing the volume up to a certain point until you hit snooze or turn the alarm off.

Also, it works with my iPod Nano 5th generation, but didn't come with the right base adapter, so I have to use the white one that came with my iPod. The dock comes with multiple clear adapters, so people with iPhones or other iPod versions may not have to order/use one they already have.

Things I love:

~It has 7 completely independent alarms, each of which can be set to wake to radio, iPod/iPhone, buzzer, or auxiliary player (cord included). Each alarm can be set for a certain day of the week, weekdays, weekends, one time, or 7 days a week!!! I haven't seen another alarm clock with so many options!!!

~You can set the snooze to however many minutes you want! My old clock snoozed for 7 minutes, with no options.

~The screen includes TONS of information including showing which alarm time(s) are set, if the sleep feature is on and for how many more minutes (15, 30 & 60 min options), it gives the time and day of the week, radio station/artist/song when the radio is on, etc.

~It has 10 digital radio presets which makes it quick and easy to run through your favorite stations, AM or FM. (No more scroll wheel for me!)

~The speaker is a good size for a night stand and nice design.

~The buttons are very intuitive and by the second day I could navigate everything easily in the dark.

~AM/FM reception in my location is good without the external antennas.

~The screen has adjustable brightness and contrast settings.

~The remote is a nice feature, but some people have complained about it's durability. I don't expect to use it much, but it's nice to have. It also controls your iPod/iPhone menus so you can change songs or playlists.

~It charges your iPod/iPhone while docked. I was surprised many other systems don't.

~Lighted buttons make navigating menus in the dark a breeze.

UPDATE: After having this speaker dock for exactly 1 month the display died. I only got a blue screen with no text no matter what I did. I called JBL since it's under warranty and they had me troubleshoot a few things to make sure the contrast wasn't just turned down, then had me fax my receipt and they are sending me another unit. In the meantime, I'm left using my cell phone as an alarm... At least their customer service is good.

UPDATE 2/6/13: I haven't had any problems with the replacement unit and have been very happy with it the last year and a half. I would buy it again.

Got one of these in June 2011. About two weeks ago the display went blank. Can't do anything with it now except charge my iPod. A very expensive paperweight.

Long Overdue Edit: Contacted JBL and they replaced the unit. My daughter is using it and loves it. Changed to 4 stars.

HoMedics SS-6510BLK SoundSpa Fusion Clock Radio with iPhone / iPod Docking Station ("IPHONE NOT INCL

HoMedics SS-6510BLK SoundSpa Fusion Clock Radio with iPhone / iPod Docking Station
  • Charge your iPod while you listen
  • AM/FM radio with digital tuning & volume control
  • Changeable faceplates to match your iPod or your mood
  • Delivers crystal clear sound
  • Six soothing nature sounds
  • Wake to iPod, nature sounds, radio or beep tone
  • Large digit LCD display for easy reading
  • Dual Alarm with snooze feature
  • Line in allows you to attach non-docking iPods, cd players and other mp3 players

The 2 features I wanted--and found--in this nightstand clock were iPhone charging and white noise generating capabilities. I was surprised at how few such products exist with these features. It charges my iPhone 4 without problems, and the multiple white noise options are exactly what I wanted. The reason it loses a star (maybe it should lose 2 stars) is the light on the clock is far too bright, even at the lower of the 2 brightness options. Most of the time, I keep the light turned off.

The time display on this clock is incredibly (read: sleep-disruptively) bright. There are three settings: high, low, and off. On the "off" setting, there is obviously no illumination at all and you cannot see the display in a dark bedroom at night. On the "low" setting, the display was so bright that I could comfortably read in my bed with no other light on. Maybe that's useful to some people, but I generally choose to sleep with the lights off for a reason. I experimented for a few nights with turning the display off when I go to sleep, but then I have to fumble around to turn it back on if I wake up in the night, just to find out what time it is.

Even to me, this sounds like a minor complaint, but my wife and I both immediately agreed that there is no way we can sleep in a room with this clock in it. It's such a silly flaw that could/should have been adjusted in product testing, and if this clock is meant for your office or massage room, then I have no other complaints. Since I need an alarm for my bedroom, though, this one is going back.

As for the "high" setting -it's bright enough to replace your overhead lighting in a small bedroom.

A gift for my daughter and she thinks it is great! Up and running with all features working. Most important is that we had some questions about the product ...and after submitting an e-mail to the seller, he called us one day later to answer our questions...yes, called us via telephone! (you do need to take off cover on iPhone to charge)Impressive service...no problem buying from them again! Happy New Year.

This comes with various dock inserts for different ipods. The one provided for ipod touch 2nd generation does not work with the 4th generation. I called Homedics and they do not have an insert for the 4th generation; they told me that if you use it without an insert would damage the ipod and the SoundSpa. I am returning it. Very disappointing. Otherwise seems like a good unit.

Motorola XPRT Android Phone (Sprint)

Motorola XPRT Android PhoneI'm really pleased with this phone. I bought it because I'm going to Paris in the Fall and wanted to be able to use it there. I especially like the combination of the qwerty keyboard and touchscreen. It seems to be better built than my BlackBerry. I had to have my Curve replaced and then worked on again. So far, no problems with the XPRT.

I got this phone for my wife for the simple fact that my wife & I was tired of the radio and antenna issues with HTC phones and Samsung phones. The Nexus S 4g(which me and the wife had) was the last straw and I knew I needed to go to a tried and true manufacturer and one that is a master of a trade and not just a jack of a bunch of ones. Motorola may not have the so called flashy and smooth UI (even though I can't tell the difference who focuses so much on a UI)of HTC and Samsung. Motorola knows how to make a fucntional phone that gets good reception whether it be wi-fi,1G,2G,3G, or 4G. Forget the additional features a phone has to be able to make a call and keep a signal, without that it is a shiny useless paper weight. My wife is going to stay with Motorola since she needs a functional phone and not some shiny UI with features that don't work because her phone can't keep a signal.

Pros:

Reception with radios and antenna's is King

UI Plain and just does what is needed

speaker phone and mic makes crystal clear calls

Notification light

Battery life for is good

Cons:

Camera's very average

To her the UI is not a con as if you want a touch wiz and sense UI feel stick to samsung and HTC. If you want a phone that just works with good features and keeps a good signal this is a great one for you the MOTOROLA XPRT.

I am now on my 3rd XPRT phone. 1 had a bad speaker and 2 are overheating for no reason. Battery app has shown 115 degrees..now that's hot! No combination of app kills, battery pulls, restarts, or trying different batteries helps. Once the XPRT starts to run hot, it doesn't stop. The overheat is a known issue for the "sister" Droid Pro from Verizon. Check the internet...lots out there regarding the Droid Pro but very little regarding the XPRT since it is so new. I really like the phone but there is clearly an issue here that needs to be addressed. Motorola, please get this fixed!

I have had this phone for about 2 weeks. I ordered it from Amazon Wireless. Let me say something about Amazon wireless first. This is an awesome service but note...they buy these phones from the manufacturer and if you have an issue with the phone you may have to deal with them and not the carrier directly.

Now as for the phone. It is very well built. The screen quality is quite acceptable. The qwerty keyboard works great, that is the main reason I got it. I had a Motorola Triumph phone through Virgin Mobile, which was an outstanding phone but I really missed the physical keyboard.

I have no issues whatsoever with this phone. It has not overheated or done any funky things. Now...guess what, I am returning it! Why?

Because I find it is too much of a Blackberry type phone for me. Now I have used Blackberry devices in the past, and they are great work phones, but as far as being multimedia devices which is what we want our phones to be nowadays they are not keeping up with the times. I was hoping this phone would bridge the gap between my Motorola Triumph and a Blackberry. Well not quite. My main issue is screen size and no 4G.

Here I digress a moment. On Sprint, and all other carriers as far as I know, the data plan for a 3G and 4G smartphone are the same cost. If so, why? This is not fair!. I argued this out with Sprint once I realized that I really wanted 4G. I just bought a phone which is 3G. Why is the data plan the same price if I can't use the extra speed? Well I got nowhere with them. Now my old Triumph was only 3G but all Virgin Mobile has is 3G, which is ironic since it is on Sprint's network and in fact is now owned by them. Anyway. I decided if I am going to pay $90.00 a month for a cell phone it had damned better be 4G especially since the price of the phone through Amazon Wireless is the same as, say, a Samsung Epic 4G (0.01!). Which has a bigger screen, a nicer screen, and still has a slide out (not my favorite but I can live with it)keyboard.

So...this is why the phone is going back. I found out that I could not just go to the Sprint store and swap the phone because I did not get it directly from Sprint. However Amazon Wireless was very nice about it.

So in summary. If you are looking for a road warrior business phone which is an Android phone and allows some multimedia functions, this phone is great. If you want a phone to read books, play games, watch YouTube and all that a lot...no 4G and a small less bright screen. Might want to reconsider.

Want Motorola XPRT Android Phone (Sprint) Discount?

I recently upgraded from a BB curve. This phone is great and way more functional than the curve. The downside is that the screen is smaller compared to other android devices. The screen gets washed out in bright sunlight, however I heard that is normal for android.

Nokia 5230 Quad-band GSM Cell Phone - Unlocked

Nokia 5230 Quad-band GSM Cell Phone - UnlockedAfter I dropped my wife's phone into a lake, it was time to get a new phone. Her phone was a prepaid T-Mobile, so we looked around for a decent replacement. Costco had this phone for sale for prepaid use at a very reasonable price, far less than above.

The good:

Free maps from Ovi Maps. Free navigation can be had by downloading maps and voice and telling the navigation program to work offline. Our phone came pre loaded with the entire US, which takes about 2 gig of the 4 gig card which was included.

Free access to the Ovi App store. We have been downloading some free apps and so far, no charges against our minutes... knock on wood.

Small size but very high resolution. It's about the length of an iPhone, but only about 3/4 as wide. The screen is 3.2" but has a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. It only has a 2mp camera, but that's plenty to shoot great video.

Bluetooth is fully functional. You can transfer files using it, unlike some other phones that only allow earpiece or speakerphone use through BT.

It comes with a 4 gig card, but with maps and pictures and music and whatever else, I can see it filling fast. It can take up to a 16 gig card.

The so so...

It comes with a little "guitar pic" thing to use the pressure sensitive touch screen. You can use your fingers too, but sometimes the things you wish to click are too small for fingers, so the pic is the better choice. Time will tell whether the touch screen is durable.

No wifi. Wifi would have been nice, but I guess this is what you give up at this price. Oh well.

As a phone...

Calls are clear and no issues with call quality. It has a proximity sensor so you don't accidentally press buttons when you hold it against your face. Dialing or texting by feel cannot be done since there is no physical number pad, it's totally touchscreen. Dialing is easy though, I have not "fat fingered" a button yet.

This phone over all comes in at about a B-. The phone itself is great, excellent reception, sound and call quality. The interface isn't bad. People who cut down Symbian typically never gave it a chance, or used it. It is a FINE interface for just about everything you would need to do. It doesn't look as cool as the newer DROID or iPhone GUI, however look at the price compared to them, and you don't have to sell your soul to AT&T or T-Mo. Battery is OK. Email support is better than before. OVI Maps is really good for navigation, not so good for finding points of interest. I would recommend Google Maps as a back up for finding Points of Interest, getting that address, then putting them into OVI Maps and use it's navigation.

PROs

Cheap Unlocked Phone (For use with AT&T's 3/3.5G network)

Free Navigation

Decent Email

Sound Quality/Call Quality

No Contract Needed

Comes with some pre-loaded Apps

CONs

Symbian OS can take a little time to learn it is NOT difficult it is LOGICAL

Battery could be better for a 1320mah Battery

Small Data Cable

OVI Store Getting Better All The Time

OVI Maps iffy for POI's

Not the fastest phone/GUI out but ample even for a heavy user

NO Wifi But for it being so cheap you can't complain

Buy Nokia 5230 Quad-band GSM Cell Phone - Unlocked Now

I have to say that this phone is an excellent value in every aspect. It has any feature you could want except wifi but this phone is NOT considered a smartphone by AT&T so you DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THE $30 DATA PLAN FEE and you can use the $10 per month unlimited data!! I bought this phone for my husband because it seemed like the best alternative to an iPhone and similar touchscreen smartphones without the issue of having to pay the ridiculous "Smartphone Plan" fee. The camera works great even though it has no flash. You just set it to night mode and can get a better picture in low light settings. The internal data is plenty generous and you can also add an SD card for more memory. My husband particularly likes this because it means he can use it just like an iPod or any other MP3 player and it also has the built in radio so he can listen to it while at work (he is a residential/commercial remodeler) if he doesn't want to listen to his stored music. You can still answer calls right from the earbuds while using the radio feature. The touch screen is great, the screen size is great. It has fast response time from input or touch. We have absolutely no complaints at all.

Some people might not like the idea of not having wifi, but if you think about it, if you buy any similar phone you're going to have to pay the stupid $30 extra monthly fee even if you do not use AT&T internet. With this phone you can just get the $10 unlimited data plan and be done with it. The internet works great on this phone and is fast in our experience. Very happy with the purchase and the price is amazing. Call quality is great as with all Nokias. No issues whatsoever and highly recommended!

iHome iH24 Portable Alarm Clock and Speaker for iPod and MP3 Players

  • Auxiliary input for use with external devices

I think these speakers sound very good. I am a therapist who travels to my clients and use relaxing music with the therapy. The clock light is bright enough that you can see even in a pitch black room. My only complaints are 1) I had to pay an extra $6 and wait extra days to have iHome ship me the correct little piece of plastic adapter so my Nano would fit. You think they would at least include the right part that would fit the iPod as shown. 2) It would be nice if there were a soft case provided that would fit the speakers, AC adapter and iPod. I have to make one. Other than that the speakers are acceptable and I would recommend them if you don't need heavy bass.

I was looking for something for my bedstand that I cd use to go to sleep to my ipod. who knew someone thought of that! Wd prefer the ability to remove the travel cover for a little less bulk and I'm not sure i'd rate it highly for sound if I were listening to music, but for listening to my podcasts and book downloads, it's great. Esp like the features for sleeping and waking to the ipod sound gradually diminishes as it nears the turn off point. Wd recommend.

Sangean RCR-8WF Internet Clock Radio

Sangean RCR-8WF Internet Clock Radio
  • Wake up to Internet radio
  • Two alarm settings each day
  • 10 preset stations
  • Sleep/snooze timers
  • Built-in FM tuner

I purchased the RCR-8WF as a replacement for an old Panasonic clock radio mainly for the Internet radio capability and for use at night. It is not a bad radio but seems more like a work-in-progress than a well thought out product.

My issues with it are:

1) The sleep timer takes three button presses to work. Turn the radio on, press the sleep timer button, then press select. Try doing this in the dark when you are half asleep! It should take one press the sleep button. This is the way their other radios work.

2) The display brightens to full when any button is pressed. The manual says that you can dim it in this mode but is does not keep the setting. You can dim it but then comes back full brightness the next time you hit a button.

3) The internet radio takes about 15-30 seconds to change stations or to come on the first time. I understand the technology involved, and could deal with this if it were not for the other issues.

I contacted Sangean a week go about these issues and still have not heard back. I will be returning it and waiting for a more mature product.

Buy Sangean RCR-8WF Internet Clock Radio Now

First let me say that it is a joy to get my morning AM news station CLEAR without all the buzz from living in the shadow of the Bourne Bridge (Cape Cod) and the crackle-pops when bad weather is moving in. It's also fun to Dx through the 2200 or so internet stations.

That said, there are more cons than pluses here. The radio's controls are as poorly thought out as all the other internet radios. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, why can't a single one of these "engineers" take one of the easiest to use standard clock radios as a template (Magnavox CD-stereo clock radio or Proton--hell even Sony!) and build the controls around that control layout?

The manual for this product stinks, so don't go there for help. Customer support is non-existent--I e-mailed them asking how to keep the panel light on permanently during the night(if the radio isn't running,I can only find out the time by fumbling in the dark and pushing the left top button to briefly light the display)--I NEVER got an answer, and that was 6 weeks ago!

Also, I stated the sound is ClEAR, I didn't say anything about fidelity-for $150 I would expect it to sound better than a $17 Sony clock radio, but it doesn't.

So, bottom line, I tried all the HD radios, and several of the $100-200 internet radios and this one was the best I could find, but the only reason I am keeping it is that it gave me a clear signal, most of the stuff on it works, and my wife got sick of my testing and returning radios! It fits nicely on the nightstand, looks "normal" unlike some of the monsters available, and does the job we wanted, oh, and I got it on sale for $50 off.

UPDATE 4/26/10: I just saw the Denon Internet Radio, which I felt was so superior to this one that I feal I wasted my money on this one--I know my wife would kill if I brought home still ANOTHER radio, or I would. The Denon sounds like $200, this Sangean sounds like $18! I'm sure there are peculiarities in the Denon's operation too, but none like Sangean's!

re Sangean RCR-8WF. I get a strong signal from my Linksys WIFI at a distance of 50 feet. The Sangean radio couldn't connect and function till it was within 2 feet of the router, and still indicated a weak signal. I tried to use the radio's FM mode, but the radio insisted on searching for a network connection, and wouldn't let me do a band shift to FM. It was loaded with their latest software update.

Sangean's website and manual provide no help.

I wasted several hours trying workarounds, including another network.

This review is for the Sangean RCR-8WF Internet Clock Radio.

A little about me/my history to qualify my statements:

OK, for the last few years I have bought at least 5, probably more, clock radio alarm clocks. I have spent anywhere from from on each of them. I have bought RCA, Timex, Sony, Emerson, and another that escapes me at the moment. The features I focused on were, dual alarms, easy/auto time setup, battery backup for time and settings during power failure, FM radio, nap timer, sleep timer, some other audio(CD, MP3, HD, Internet, Weather). It didn't have to have all those audio formats, just one that worked. Most of the alarm clocks worked ok for the alarm settings, but all of them failed in FM radio reception. I had tried both internal and external antenna models. I had 2 different CD models, both of which failed before 1 year usage. Other features are different on every model. If you have looked, then you know what I mean. I never got an HD radio model, this internet radio just seemed more flexible. So I broke the bank when I bought this alarm clock radio. I thought, maybe my expectations were just too high for less than , so I splurged. WOW am I surprised, in a very positive way!

The Review:

I don't know if you can find an alarm clock radio that works this well, for less, but I can tell you this alarm clock radio works very well. This alarm clock radio is doing everything it says it will. The FM reception is excellent. The wireless(wifi/802.11) internet radio reception is excellent. (I have a good, but run of the mill, wifi network in my home connected to a cable mid tier broadband service). I was able to connect to internet radio, knowing a local radio stations call letters, without ever using my PC or using the free Reciva service. I also tried the free Reciva service and it worked fine also, and provide an easier method to search and try out all kinds of internet radio. I can also play my MP3 audio collection stored on my computer, with excellent reception. The time automatically sets to internet time and has setting for any time zone. It has 2 alarms that can each be set individually for FM/Internet/buzzer for weekends/weekdays/specific days of the week. I mean, it is so flexible and works so well, I am just totally amazed. Yes, it is a little geeky and the menu's are not as intuitive as they could be, but going through the included manual, I was able to figure everything out without major issues. The LCD is kind bright, but it is adjustable. Problem I had is adjusting it so its not bright at night, makes it too dim for viewing in day and visa versa. I don't know if there is a light sensor that I can turn off/on to help, its not that big a deal for me. This probably won't work well for audiophiles as I think there is only one speaker. But it has good sound and is loud enough to fill a large bedroom with good quality sound. The only big problem with this radio is the price. To have to spend to get an alarm clock radio that works well, is kind of ridicules, but I will recommend to buy this one to anyone who asks. Again, its the best alarm clock radio I have ever played with in a store/seen at friends/or bought myself, and I recommend it, even at the high price.

I purchased the RCR-8WF based on my experiences with the RCR-22 Clock Radio and the WFR-20 Wifi Radio, both of which I have been extremely happy with. I wanted an internet radio for my alarm clock so that I could wake up to stations that I prefer from outside the US (most notably, BBC Radio 2).

Overwall, the RCR-8WF is ok...not great, but ok. I was expecting operation that was a little more user friendly and features that were a bit more robust. For instance, the RCR-22 has a manual/analog volume control on the side of the unit, while the 8WF uses two software defined buttons on the top. The unforunate part of this design is that the volume buttons take up space that could be used for two additional station presets, as on the RCR-22.

My biggest complaint about the RCR-8WF, however, is that the current firmware version requires the radio to do a complete network initialization and search each time it is turned on. (The WFR-20 does the same thing). The problem with this in alarm clock mode is that it takes seemingly forever for the radio come up at the alarm time; when hitting snooze, the same initialization takes place. Consequently, every five minutes during snooze, the radio must reboot the network before the radio alarm turns back on.

One final complaint. There is no way to adjust the volume on the alarm. It is factory preset to a specific level that cannot be set to a louder volume. When the alarm comes on, the audio fades in (a nice feature to prevent startling the sleeping person), but only fades up so far. At least twice I've slept through the alarm when I was in a deep sleep. An improvement would be to allow the owner to adjust the alarm volume to a level that is appropriate for his circumstances.

The radio uses the Reciva Database, which is perhaps the broadest internet radio database available. This offers the owner the widest variety of internet radio stations to listen to. If, for some reason, the station you are looking for is not in the database, you can do one of two things: 1) you can notify Reciva, who will add the station; or, 2) once you register your radio with Reciva, you can go online and add it yourself under the "My Streams" section.

I am considering looking for a different internet alarm clock radio, because of the deficiencies I have mentioned. I am also hoping that in a future version Sangean will "get it right".

Nokia C1-01 Unlocked GSM Phone--US Version with Warranty (Dark Grey)

Nokia C1-01 Unlocked GSM Phone--US Version with WarrantyI picked this guy up after my beloved Samsung T-509 (it won't let me product link it) started to die after five years of trusty service. My last few phones had been Samsungs, but I didn't find one that was cheap enough for what I wanted.

I just needed a simple phone I could use for my T-Mobile service. I don't web browse on my phone. I don't really use my phone that much to begin with actually, so while I had a normally billed plan, I was planning on switching to prepaid as I discovered it was $10/mo cheaper, and didn't lock me into a contract. My first ever cell phone(s) were Nokias, so I figured I'd go back to my roots and pick this one up.

Long story short, it does exactly what I hoped it'd do. All I needed it for is calling and occasional texting. While I don't find the texting to be quite as intuitive as it was on my previous Samsung phones, in all fairness I have to concede that that might be due to the fact that I'd had Samsung phones for several years, and my first forays into texting were on them they were all I ever knew.

The only gripe I have with this phone, besides the aforementioned texting learning curve, is that there's just a tiny bit of lag time for it to execute a command. It's not terrible, but it is noticeable. Oh, and the camera isn't much. I daresay my old T-509 had a better camera, and it was five years old! But then again, I wanted a basic phone, that is what I paid for, and that his what I got.

What I like about the phone:

Battery life I'm not sure if the claimed 10.6 hrs of talk time is accurate, but it is a solid battery

MicroSD I can put pictures and music and whatnot on there, and use them as my background, or ring tones (free, simple, and unlimited possibilities), or play them through headphones (standard head phone jack!)

Radio A feature I'll probably never use, but is kinda cool. You HAVE to have the headphones plugged in for the radio to work as they are the antenna, but reception was surprisingly solid when I was testing it. However, you can't play songs from the radio on speakerphone for all to enjoy the way you can with songs off the MicroSD card.

Small Fits in my jacket pockets well, the keys autolock to avoid too many pocket dials.

I had no trouble getting it to work with my T-Mobile service. I just popped in my SIM card and it worked. I did have to call T-Mobile tech support to have them help me with SMS messages, which weren't going through or coming in. They had to send me some text that wrote some settings to the phone's memory, but it was quick and painless. It also survived the conversion to prepay and is working just fine on that plan now. For $50 I'm fairly satisfied.

Great little basic Cellular Phone. Allows one to do embarassing things, like talking to another person. Sound quality is good, Loudspeaker on-board and a simple camera too. Dialing digits are big and there are many features available. If you prefer a Dumb Phone instead of a Smart Phone...........this is the one for you. =:)

This is a great little phone if you like the candy bar format (as I do). While it's great to have a camera, radio, mp3 player, qwerty keyboard nearby, to me the most important feature of phone is how is functions as a phone. This one is perfect for making and taking phone calls on. As silly as that may sound, I cannot say enough how much I abhor trying to hold an I-phone up to my ear for any length of time. It just doesn't feel right. This one has a great feel to it. Very sleek and discreet. Big clean display relative to overall size. Nice audio quality and still slips into your shirt pocket without you even knowing it's there. ATT has informed that I will have to get a different phone as they will be shutting down their 2G network in May. Hopefully this one still works.

I was looking for a phone to replace my Nokia 3100 which has been a diehard. After reading the first and only review i took a chance and could not be happier. What made it even better was my wife's excitement about the phone. She is not very exciteable. So it was a real plus when she told me that she really like the phone. I was just looking for a good basic reliable phone, and got many more features than expected. I knew that it had a music player, but the 5 mp camera was icing on the cake. If you're willing to spend more, I'm sure there are better phones. But thus far me and my wife are very satisfied!

NAXA NRC-171 PLL Digital Dual Alarm Clock with AM/FM Radio, Snooze and Large LED Display (Black Lacq

NAXA NRC-171 PLL Digital Dual Alarm Clock with AM/FM Radio, Snooze and Large LED Display
  • PLL digital AM/FM radio tuner
  • 10 AM and 10 FM radio station presets with dual alarm function
  • Large 0.9 inch LED display
  • Wake up to radio or alarm with snooze and sleep function
  • UL/ETL approved AC adaptor

I purchased this specifically for one reason: the digital tuner. The manual tuners just do NOT get good reception and the signal is constantly going out even if the clock hasn't moved, so this one has been perfect. It does exactly what I purchased it for. I haven't used the alarm (it's in our living room, music for the dog really) so I can't comment on that, but the tuner and sound are great!

Save your money & time... this clock/radio sucks!

The first clock/radio purchased would not turn on or allow programming.

Amazon replaced it... second one started working fine, but after several hours when I tried to re-program the preset stations it went crazy.... started flashing and scanning all of the preset stations. After unplugging the power, letting it set for several hours, it would not let me program the time or presets. Sometimes it would let me turn it on but not off.

Returning it to Amazon for refund. Will definitely continue shopping at Amazon.

This dual alarm clock is loud! Just what I was looking for. However, I can't figure out how to turn off the alarm on the weekends! I've read the instructions and it only gives information about turning off the alarm after it sounds. When I was trying to figure out how to turn it off for the weekend, I kept getting the radio. Now I unplug it on Friday nights and reset it Sunday evenings. So, if you want to turn off your alarm to sleep in on the weekends, find another dual alarm clock, unless you figure out how to turn it off. I'm keeping it cause it is loud and is the reason why I gave three stars.

I bought this clock because it has digital tuning which is what I needed. The functionality is awful and it somehow sets an alarm to go off at midnight every night and it is impossible to reset the alarm so I have to unplug it every day. It was cheap so I guess you get what you pay for.
