iHome iH4 Alarm Clock Speaker System with Dock for iPod (Black)

iHome iH4 Alarm Clock Speaker System with Dock for iPod
  • Plays and charges iPod mini 1G; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G; iPod classic 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod touch 1G, 2G
  • Wake and sleep to your music when docking your iPod (or wake to buzzer)
  • EXB Expanded Bass and Reson8 technology for great sound
  • Adjustable brightness for LCD and LED side accent lights
  • Auxiliary input for connecting external audio devices

I bought this for my wife and haven't played with it too much but will pass on her comments. The unit is small and easy to use. Overall pleased with only two comments.

The volume is incremental and only adjusts from the unit itself and ignores any changes made on the iPod. The problem with this is that if you want to fall asleep to some 'gentle and soothing' sounds/music the difference between no sound and the first step is too pronounced.

The only other item to note is that the dimmer also has steps and if you like your room very dark at night the lowest setting visible is just a bit too bright. However, you can completely turn the light off which is nice and all you have to do is hit a button to turn it on -then step thru all the settings to turn it off...but that's not too bad.

I got this as a way to listen to my 2g pink nano while going to sleep. I was amazed when I plugged it in in the kitchen and my husband thought the stereo was on all the way from the living room. The sound is amazing for this tiny piece of equipment. The sleep feature is great and the dimmer for the lights is cool too. The fact that it doesn't have a remote is annoying, but the remote is 15 bucks on ihome's site. Since this is a great ipod accessory I will definetly be getting the remote to boot. I just wish it also came in pink.

1) The iPod Mini will not connect as long as the adapter is installed. Instead, I need to remove the adapter and let it wobble there on the top. 2) There is no way to push the side buttons without first feeling for the correct button, then gripping the entire unit. Pressing the buttons without full grip only pushes the iH4 to the side.

3)Gives the impression that it includes the remote, but doesn't.

4) The display is too bright and sports high intensity LEDs to add to the illumination.

5) Sleep (the best feature of iHome units) is a small button rather than a large bar like snooze.

i DO like this product. for the price, it's a great little product. i do wish that it had better volume control. even if you set both the clock AND your i-pod to the lowest volume, it's a little louder than what i would like. but it's not bad. i also like the fact that i have a docking station to charge my i-pod, instead of having to plug it in somewhere. very convenient. and i like the pink light too. what can i say, i'm a girl.

i'm very happy with this product. the only thing i am disappointed in is the fact that it makes it seem like the remote is included. it is not. you must purchase it for an additional fee. not a big deal, i mean, it's right next to my bed, i don't need a remote, and probably wouldn't actually use it. but the description implies that the remote is included. still, a decent product.

After hours of scouring Amazon through a multitude of docking stations, I finally settled on this one and am truly satisfied to say the least. This unit with a short read of the instrustions (provided in english by the seller in pdf which was nice), and you have a docking station with a groovy little remote that has all the functions anyone needs for their IPhone (in our case it was purchased for a IPhone 4s), or IPod. It comes with several easy fitting docking adaptors to help fit your particular device for added support in the cradle, which was very nice. The unit is large enough to provide excellent sound, but compact enough to fit on our small crowded side-table. My loving better-half recommends this docking station to anyone needing a docking station with what we believe, has some of the best features of any we have owned before.

Pros: Fairly loud, doesn't look bad, inexpensive, has a nice stand, digital display that shows current frequency, loud alarm.

Cons: Tuner drifts after turning off and on, mirror fogs badly, the rope for hanging up is shorter than usual.

I will first say that this product is not over priced, but it's not under priced either. You get what you pay for I guess.

After using this product in the shower for a month now, I have found a few faults with it.

First, the knobs are not designed with wet hands in mind. The knobs are small and smooth, so it's really hard to adjust the volume in the shower.

The volume adjusts in increments that are not very precise, meaning it goes from too low, to too loud, with just a slight turn of the knob. I find it hard to find that perfect volume... with or without wet hands.

Despite the digital display for the tuner, it's not truly a digital tuner, as far as I can tell anyway. I'm not sure how to describe this, but to tune in the stations, you use a knob, and much like the volume knob, it's really hard get precisely tune in a station. It's not like the digital tuner on your car stereo where you turn the knob and it moves up or down 1310, 1311, 1312, etc. It's pretty much impossible to go from 1310 to 1311.

I don't know if it was advertised as a "steam-resistant" mirror, but the mirror is useless in the shower. Personally, I didn't buy it for that, so I don't care, but if you are going to try and shave in the shower using the mirror, it probably won't work.

The price was reasonable, although Wal-Mart had the same product on clearance for $5.00. Go figure.

I use it every morning, so it does meet my needs, but if the issues I raise are a deal breaker, then spend the extra buck and get a better one.

Wally-world sells these for $5. I have gone through 4...Yes, FOUR of these pieces of #$%^ trying to find one that will work. First one flat didn't work. Next unit didn't work. Third unit wouldn't get AM. Fourth unit worked...for about three minutes.

Run ...don't walk to the nearest exit!

This shower radio has a better sound then the last one that I had, and it is easy to use. The only problem I've had with it is that the suction cups holding it to the wall of the shower don't fit into a keyhole slot, but rather they just push into the back of the radio at the top. This allowed it to be knocked off of the suction cups when it was bumped in the shower, landing on my foot, and clattering noisily to the floor. It still works, however, and I will now be more careful!

Emerson iC2196 CD Stereo Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Recharging Dock for iPod / iPhone

Emerson iC2196 CD Stereo Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Recharging Dock for iPod / iPhone
  • Clock radio with iPod / iPhone docking station and CD player
  • Compatible with all dockable iPod / iPhone models
  • Recharges iPod batteries while connected
  • Digital tuning AM/FM stereo clock radio
  • Top loading CD player

We purchased this after reading some reviews that it ran on batteries and I want to clarify that although it does take AA batteries, they are optional and do not actually run the stereo/alarm, but only as a backup for the time in case you loose power or unplug it.

Even though we were disappointed at first that it was not an electric and battery-operated system, it made up for it with its simplicity and great performance. The volume gets surprisingly loud, we can hear it across our house when I play it in the room, and it is very clear especially with the iPod. It charges the iPod as you play it, which is a great feature, and allows you the ability to set the alarm (can set up 2 alarms) for cd, standard ringer, radio, or iPod.

This was the best deal we found for a cd, iPod, radio and alarm clock and I am so happy with it I may order another one!

Emerson makes cheap junk and their iPod alarm clocks are no exception. If you need an alarm clock capable of waking you up at the right time in the morning, this is NOT the one you want.

I have to admit to being stupid enough to buying this model after another earlier more expensive Emerson iPod alarm clock failed to ring its alarm. The iC2196 also failed to ring the alarm less than a year after I purchased it. The buttons on these cheap alarm clocks also stop functioning within a few months.

There is no quality built into these products. It's alright if you just need something to charge and play your iPod out of cheap tiny speakers, but don't rely on these pieces of junk as alarm clocks.

Sangean U3 AM/FM Ultra Rugged Digital Tuning Radio Receiver

Sangean U3 AM/FM Ultra Rugged Digital Tuning Radio Receiver
  • Water resistant
  • Auto scan;10 memory presets
  • Backlit LCD display
  • Selectable auto shutoff timer
  • 10 Memory Preset Stations (5 FM, 5 AM)

A reader warned me about the Sangean U3 being too bass-heavy. Listening to talk radio wasn't pleasant. Too muddled. Same complaint about the otherwise well reviewed U3's smaller brother, the very appealing Lunchbox, which will be available in about a month for about $12 less than my $103 U3. The lesser priced Lunchbox has a slightly smaller speaker, no headphone jack, and no tone controls for bass and treble.

Let me say before I delay any longer that the tone controls on the U3 make listening to talk NO PROBLEM. The sound is great on both talk and music. Digital FM, with 5 presets, is crystal clear with no background noise and no need to adjust the FM rubber antenna. The weakest station I listen to 89.3 KPCC comes in with no problem. AM, received from the internal ferrite, has 5 presets and is very sensitive. No ugly birdy noise on 710 AM, a sometimes problematic station on my other radios.

My wife also likes the radio, its bold look and its crystal clear sound. She said she wants to keep it in the kitchen, which means I'll have to move the Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo into the living room. For now the U3 is between my computer and yoga mat inside the office. Like all my radios, my U3 doesn't like the computer. Five feet away from the computer and all my radios suffer a bit of compromised FM. AM doesn't seem to be affected.

Power

You can power up the U3 with the included AC. Not included are the 2 AA batteries to back-up power, clock and presets in the case of a power outage.

If you don't want to use the AC, you power up the U3 with 6 D batteries.

The U3 also comes with dual alarm functions, which I plan on never using. This radio is to produce big clear sound in the house, the garage, or front and back yards. So far as I can tell it is a big winner.

Buy Sangean U3 AM/FM Ultra Rugged Digital Tuning Radio Receiver Now

I started out looking at job site radios, you know, the ones with the battery charging systems. Some of them weren't rated very high and I didn't need that feature. Then I found the U-3. I have a hearing loss so I was worried about the base sounding mudduled like one review. Perhaps they have updated the bass control since that one review. I had no trouble with the base control and I can hear talk radio fine. I live in a rural area and have never been able to get AM reception on any radio, in my shop. Not only does it strong AM no matter where I place it, the U-3 gets crystal clear FM. My favoite FM station has always been fuzzy on other radios. There is plenty of base if you want it. The volume can boom clearly over all my machinery. The controls are eazy to use with dirty hands, and the thing laughs at all the saw dust on top of it. I have not tried the battery thing yet since I am never planning to use it that way. The thing is built to withstand an atomic attack.

Now for my only con........ If it had a remote I could put it on a high shelf. It is a minor inconvienace to put it within reach.

Treat yourself and buy this radio.

I wanted a rugid, digital, LOUD, yet small radio for my husband to take with us tailgating, camping, and to NASCAR races. This fit exactly what he and I were both looking for. It has a light, can be used while plugged into an AC or DC outlet, or even use batteries. It's digital with memory so he can save all his favorite stations and it is LOUD for only being one speaker.

Want Sangean U3 AM/FM Ultra Rugged Digital Tuning Radio Receiver Discount?

The audio is a bit on the bass side, even with tone turned to treble, but I have no problem with it. Someone else might.

My favorite stations come in fine. Switching bands / stations is a breeze with pre-set buttons. The tuner will scan (similar to most car radios). The knobs are well labeled, very smooth, and simple to operate.

Limited testing renders DX'ing with U3 comparable to CC Radio on both bands.

The time / alarm are very easy to set. The clock displays the time when unit is turned off. The 2 AA batteries that just run the clock will probably last a year or more. I do not think the battery indicator reflects the strength of the 2 clock batteries. My guess is that when the clock stops displaying, it's time to change the 2 AA's(?).

The "Sleep" mode is handy and easy to invoke. Using it could save some battery life if one should wander off and forget radio is on.

I'm impressed with the build. The roll cage has rubber feet and the radio is mounted to the cage with rubber mounts. It should withstand rough riding and being moved around frequently. The "rubber ducky" FM antenna functions very well and makes moving / carrying radio much easier.

Having only played U3 on the "D" cells for a few hours, I cannot comment on battery life at this time.

The AC wire is on a spool in the roomy rear compartment. Returning the wire to the compartment is not difficult or "challenging", as with many portable radios. The AC plug is 2 prong; no wall wart.

While operating on AC, the battery indicator disappears as an indication that batteries are not in use.

The AC wire compartment has room for my 12V lighter plug adapter & cord.

Sangean should include this wire/adapter or at least offer one as an option. I was able to make one up, but only by luck of having correct parts on hand.

The display is large and easy to see and read.

Display back light remains on for about 15 seconds in both battery and AC mode. This is a good thing, in my opinion, since my CC Radio back light eventually burnt out after a few years of being on with radio always connected to AC. Pressing any button re-illuminates the back light at any time.

I've made no attempts to charge a cell phone from U3. I do not have the required wire for my phone. (No wires come with radio for cell phones or 12V DC input power.)

I'm also impressed with the door on the battery compartment. It has a screw-knob, is hinged, and not likely to fail.

All the auxiliary receptacles have rubber hinged stoppers in them to add to the water-proof integrity. Hand grip is rubber padded and very comfortable; radio is rather heavy (about 9 lbs),yet still easy to grab & go. It's very good for placing on the ground or floor.

Side-by-side, the audio is just as good (for my ears) as my GE Superadio, which up until now, has provided the best audio of all my portables.

Operating the U3 next to my computer, I get no noise on AM or FM.

I'm very pleased with the U3 radio.

I encourage Sangean to offer accessory connectors or at least links for 3rd party providers. Sangean may also care to re-visit the bass level of this radio.

I bought this sight unseen or heard. It had all the right features, but it only had one speaker and there where one or two posts complaining about sound quality.

When the box arrived, it is way smaller and lighter than I thought. I plugged it in, set my MP3 player on Foo Fighters, and the box rocks. Nuff, said.

I was looking at the Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy-Duty CD Radio Boombox, and I am so happy I did not buy that. This is a boombox you don't mind carrying 3 miles in the woods. It is tough so you don't have to even think about being careful with the thing.

Two things weird things that have turned out really useful. One, the built in light was really handy. Two, the built in alarm clock proved a life saver.

I honestly think I can beat a bear unconscious with the thing, and not lose radio reception while doing so.

We bought this radio to replace an old am-fm radio we had in the kitchen. It has worked out very well. Sound quality is good, fm reception is excellent, the size is small enough not to take up much space on the kitchen counter, and the extra feature of being able to plug in an iPod is a bonus. The old radio did not have a back-up battery, and this one does, which is another plus.

This is an awesome clock radio, and it is extremely easy to use. I have an iPhone 4, and it fits into the dock without an adapter. I love everything about this product -ease of use, sound quality (awesome), brightness of the clock display (and the dimmer switch), and even the daylight savings time (+1, -1) switch on the back of the clock (something I had never seen before). When I purchased it online, the product description at the top of the page was listed as "pink" (I'm a pink fanatic, so that made me happy -lol). However, I later noticed that (down below by the description) the color choices were blue, purple, and gunmetal. I had purple selected, but the picture to the left which displayed was a pinkish purple (magenta), so I went ahead and ordered it, and I'm not disappointed. If you are a purple lover, the color is not a true purple (i.e. grape color). If anyone is "on the fence" about ordering this clock radio, go for it -you won't be disappointed (no matter what color you choose). The price also rocks!!!

Want iHome iP42 Dual Alarm Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone (Pink) Discount?

This works real well with my IPhone. I have a hard case and am able to still use it without having to take the case off, like I needed to do with some other players. The sound is really good you can make it pretty loud. It also charges your IPod/IPhone while docked. I love that it comes in colors. It's more compact than a lot of the other alarm clock/player combination. The time is easy to see and you can make it as bright or as dim as you want. Overall, I'm very happy! I had tried out several others and they just didn't please me but this one is the one.

I bought this iHome to use mainly as an alarm clock so I can wake up to my IPod selections. All of the features work great, the sound is awesome, alarm is easy to use, and the dimmer feature is very nice. However, I have one very big complaint with the alarm clock time display. When I set both alarms for different times the manual says that the earliest alarm time will be the one displayed, but this does NOT happen. Most of the time the display shows the later alarm time which means that the displayed alarm time is NOT the next time the alarm will sound which is very annoying. I have two alarms set one for weekdays and one for weekends. I have started to turn off the weekend alarm during the week so that I am not constantly worried that my alarm is set for the wrong time. This kind of negates the 7-5-2 alarm function if I am having to turn off/on the alarms when not being used so that the alarm clock displays the correct time. The alarm always SOUNDS at the correct times no matter what the display says but it is very annoying that the display shows the wrong time for the next alarm.

I emailed iHome about this problem and they told me I had a defective unit, so I sent in for an exchange. Guess what? The new unit does the same thing sounds more like a problem with this model! iHome's tech support has not been very helpful on this problem and basically tried to tell me that I was using my iHome incorrectly (oh and that was after they first told me that my iHome model doesn't even display the alarm time!). After I convinced him through a step by step email of how I was using the model did he admit that the alarm time display is not working properly but could come up with a fix for me besides to send it in for warranty service (why does it need service? TWO NEW units don't work properly so why should I pay them to "fix" it when I can't get a new one that works correctly?). They only thing I have determined from this whole problem is that iHome doesn't care that this unit will not work properly. It is very disturbing you would think the would want to know about the problem so it could be fixed!

Also the box states that a remote is included but there is NO remote in the box! They want you to pay $20 for a remote that was supposedly included!

Uniden TRU9460-2 Expandable Cordless System with Call Waiting/Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charge

Uniden TRU9460-2 Expandable Cordless System with Call Waiting/Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charger
  • 100-name phonebook with 2 numbers per name
  • 100-number Caller ID Memory
  • IntegriSound life-like audio
  • DirectLink 2-way radio feature
  • Intercom between handsets

We've had this system, expanded to 10 handsets, for 6 months. When our old phones and baby monitor died I wanted to buy a new set that could double as an intercom system and baby monitor, both of which are features advertised with this system. I found to my regret that this is a decent expandable system, but does not live up to its promise regarding advanced features.

PROS:

Expands to 10 handsets fine. The extra regular handsets interchange with the original chargers fine. Only the 2 waterproof handsets have to use their different base.

Voice mail indicator light on the top of each handset works with the phone company's indicator tone (i.e. stutter dial tone).

Dedicated voice mail button can be programmed to dial your retrieval phone number & code for one touch message retrieval.

Each handset has a number (based on the order in which you register them with the base) and a nickname. When you turn on room monitoring or intercom, it gives you the list in numeric order to scroll through, but also shows you the nicknames ("Kitchen", "Johns Room", etc.).

Redial has the last 3 numbers dialed, not just the last 1.

Good backlighting shows up in the dark.

CONS:

None of the bases are wall mountable.

Each handset must be configured individually. The phone book can be entered on one then told to copy to each of the others (one at a time). All other features including speed dial settings, voice mail key, ring tones, etc. have to be set on each handset.

Ring tone choices are poor, and grating. There are no remotely "normal" ring tones that are not either gratingly high pitched and metallic, or too soft to be heard. We resorted to the musical tunes but the handsets don't ring at the same time, so it's still a cacaphony.

The intercom feature has it's own painful ringtone that can't be changed.

The "intercom" is more accurately termed "in house calling". The receiving handset rings, and a person must pick it up and answer it. There's no way to make it automatically go to speakerphone. So if the kids choose not to answer the phone, you can't just tell them to come downstairs to dinner anyway. So much for our plan to quit shouting up the stairs! There is one brand that works the "correct" way. Unfortunately, I forgot which it was, since I ran out of time and motivation to package up 10 Unidens and send them back in order to by the other system.

Speakerphone won't turn on until after a few rings when calling out. You can't turn on speakerphone then dial. Our old AT&T 2 handset system allowed us to hit the speaker button to get a dialtone, then dial the #.

Speakerphone volume max is low; it's borderline if you're using the room monitoring feature for listening to a sleeping baby.

When room monitoring is on you cannot make or receive calls. When there is an incoming call you'll get one odd tone, then you have to quickly turn of monitoring and then answer the call.

Handsets cannot be used as monitoring receivers (the listening end) while on the base. So they have to be well charged ahead of time, and may not make it through the night.

Recommendation: All of the manufacturers have their user manuals online. Before buying a system, download the manual and read through the details of how the features work. If I had done that, I would not have purchased this phone.

After trying several different brands, I've been very happy with this Uniden. Sound quality is good, it's lightweight and the dial pad lights up. Most important, of the 4 different phones I sampled, this is the only model which allows two different household members to be on the phone and access two extensions at the same time (which is apparently called conferencing).

I had a pair of GE phones and after two years, the LCD display started to disappear. So inititially I replaced them with Motorola's. HUGE mistake!

They were complicated to use, sound wasn't very good, and my family hated them. So, I returned them and bought these Uniden's. They are fantastic!

Easy to use, great feel, many features, reasonable. The only knock on them, is that for a 5.8 Ghz phone, the range is not impressive AT ALL! I had better range with my GE 2.4Ghz phones! I have my "home base" in the kitchen, and when I am a short distance away, in our family room in the lower level, there is QUITE a bit of static that is heard on BOTH ends.

We have had these phones for over 3 years and haven't had a single problem with them. I especially like the 2-way intercom and handset finder features.

Lots of features. Good phone, expandable to add other handsets. I would reccommend. Unlike my old cordless, only draback is when you clear caller ID on one handset, it does not clear it on the other handsets.

AM / FM Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Wave Sensor

AM / FM Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Wave SensorAfter my old alarm clock became unreliable I embarked on my quest to find a replacement. I figured I would find one with some new features that my old alarm clock was lacking. This would be the ability to not go off on weekends without having to constantly remember to set or unset it based on the day. After coming across this Jensen, I determined that this had the functionality I was looking for. For the most part, it is pretty much as advertised. The ability to wave your hand over the top is kind of a novelty. Doing so also cycles through the temp and displays the two currently set alarms. It is also very easy to read. I find the green night light on the bottom of it weird and reminiscent of being on a borg ship, so, I have simply turned it off. Two things I am not fond of are the feel of pressing the buttons on the front and cancelling the alarm. The buttons seem to have a rather cheap feel to them, and also require more force than I would like. This also ads to the minor problem of cancelling the alarm when it goes off. While waving your hand over the top for the snooze works wonderfully, you must press one of the small buttons on the front to cancel. Since the unit doesn't weight a whole lot, this can be a two handed operation. This is not as simple as I would like first thing in the morning. In general, it is decently made, and for it's price is worth what is paid for it. Overall, I am happy with the purchase, and would recommend it to anybody seeking a slightly better than standard alarm clock for not a lot of money.

Wanted to use the clock before reviewing.

Pros:

nice big display, LOVE the feature of waving your hand over to snooze or get info eliminates the chance of hitting OFF instead of snooze, like the green night light, like the ramp up alarm, like that you can choose Mon-Fri or Mon-Sun for alarm, like the digital radio station selection, not too bright, slim, attractive

Cons:

The volume and tuner dials are not in a great place because you can easily change the volume and station when you pick it up. The volume dial is touchy so you can set it but if you accidentally touch it when you pick up the clock you can turn it down and you won't get woken up (if using radio). Does not have a weekend only (sat-sun) option for the alarm.

Other Comments:

Different than most alarm clocks to set up but once you understand it it's easy.

Wish List of changes to make the clock better:

1. Move the dials so they can't be accidentally touched when picked up & make them less sensitive

2. For the Alarm days add a option for weekend only (currently you can choose Mon-Fri or Mon-Sun)

Buy AM / FM Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Wave Sensor Now

i buy an alarm clock every year and half. And rather then waste tons of money on what will die out, this was good for the price and gives all that it promises. I love that it tells the temperature and plays my mp3 player. the green light is an added bonus and its small enough if you don't have a large space to put this.

I actually really like this clock. I purchased for my teenage son and the dual alarms along with the various day settings work great. It took awhile to figure out the 12/24 hour display at first I thought it 'could' only show military time but quickly figured this out. It would be great if the came with the back up battery especially given the price and that it does not take a standard 9V backup. I haven't gotten around to purchasing one yet which always tends to be the problem with non standard batteries.

This alarm clock does it all. Hand sensor to snooze and view temperature, completely darken at night if the dimmed choice is still too bright, night light if you like, 9 minute snooze, two alarms, choose alarms to go off only during the week if desired and choose between a beep or the radio. Great product!
