Homedics HX-B050 HMDX Quad Bedside Audio

Homedics HX-B050 HMDX Quad Bedside Audio
  • Full-function dual alarm clock with Snooze, Nap, and Gradual Wake feature
  • Digital tune AM/FM radio with 10 station presets
  • Auto-set clock
  • USB port for charging your devices
  • Aux-in for connecting external music devices

I bought this clock for the dual alarm feature. The USB charging port was purely an extra bonus feature. That is pretty much the only good features of this clock radio. It has a unique design but the buttons on top are not intuitive you certainly need to use the instruction manual to figure out some things. The snooze button is not easy to find if you're a regular snooze-button-pusher. The gradual wake function is only gradual if you consider very quiet to screaming in your face radio within 10 seconds and my clock sits on the other side of my 250 sq. ft. bedroom. There is no way to not have a "gradual wake" radio. You are stuck with that or annoying beeping. The display is extremely bright even on the lowest setting (as others have mentioned). It is on the lowest setting and doesn't bother me since it is on the other side of the room. It does double as a good nightlight.

This clock actually offends me on a deep level at how cheaply it is made and how poorly it works. It should not exist. I only get the strongest FM signals even though I'm in viewing distance of my town's radio transmitters. Even AM barely comes in! The sound quality is worse than a telephone. The speakers rattle loudly if you try to adjust the volume to a discernible level. The controls are very awkward and labeled with incomprehensible symbols. DON'T BUY THIS!

I made the huge mistake of ordering it from bestbuy.com. It was back-ordered so by the time I received it it was past the 30 day purchase date and they would not let me return it. I'm thinking of dropping it off a tall building so I can at least get some sort of satisfaction out of it. Beware of this company's products!

Auxiliary input is pretty useless since the speakers are so weak and sound poorly.

USB charging feature is really the only reason why I gave it another star.

Also, like others have noted, the display is very bright even dimmed to its lowest setting.

I am disappointed with this product. I ordered it to my friend as a birthday present. When he unwrapped it he saw that alarm clock was dirty, with some wrapping materials inside and with little scratches. It looks like t's been used by someone else before.

I bought this clock radio based solely on its look. I liked the hi-tech cube design. The actual product is smaller than I expected and feels somewhat flimsy. I still like the look of it, and am happy with it overall.

The good: Includes a USB port (for charging only) and audio in jack. These are great to have, and I now charge my phone through the USB port. It has an easy to access dimmer button that lets you turn the BRIGHT display completely off. Auto-adjust time, DST.

The bad: Flimsy, LED display is unbelievably bright. Even on the lowest setting,it lights up the room. I'm going to cover the display with some tinting film so I can sleep. The sound quality is terrible (to be expected from such small speakers). AM radio reception is poor.

Overall I got what I paid for: a cool looking clock radio with some bonus features.

I purchased this item as "used" for approx. $20 cheaper. I was nervous when it arrived and one of the box corners was smashed and had been taped. I plugged it in and it worked, so I installed it. What a pleasant surprise! The sound is awesome for the price. It is designed so the speakers send the sound into the room not to the countertop. Since the radio is analog tuning and not digital, it's a little tricky to find stations. However, I keep it tuned to my favorite station and use the CD player. The clock is a nice size and easy to read far away. Would I buy this again. You bet . . . even if I had to pay full price!

AccuPower AccuLoop D Size 10000 mAh NiMH Rechargeable Battery 2-Pack Low Self Discharge Precharged

AccuPower AccuLoop D Size 10000 mAh NiMH Rechargeable Battery 2-Pack Low Self Discharge Precharged
  • Ready to use = comes pre-charged
  • AccuLoop ALSX - AccuPower Low Self-Discharge X-tension
  • Very low self-discharge (approx. 2% per month)
  • Suitable for nearly all battery applications very high performance 10000 mAh
  • Size: Mono / D / LR20

I bought 4-D, 4-C, 8 AA and 4AAA from another retailer.

The D cells were used on a baby swing. After the third or fourth recharge cycle, one of the cells would no longer charge.

The C cells were used on a couple of child toys. Similar to the D cells, one of the cells failed to recharge after the third recharge cycle.

Of the 8 AAs, one doesn't hold charge anymore. Same with the AAAs.

I have recently bought Sanyo's Eneloop batteries. I expect better quality and performance from these batteries but time will tell.

being that the clock is actually only around 7 dollars (its the shipping that cost me more than the clock actually), its a great little alarm clock radio. The reception for the FM is pretty good and clear. Can't say the same for the AM, but i dont listen to AM channels so its not an issue for me. I love the design, its very pretty and simple. One complaint that i have is that the snooze button on the clock that i received is difficult to press.

Sony ICF-C318 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio with Dual Alarm (White)

Sony ICF-C318 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio with Dual Alarm
  • Green LED display alarm clock with dual alarms
  • 0.9" number display
  • Extendable snooze bar
  • Built-in calendar
  • Full power memory backup

I bought two of these, (one for my husband and one for my teenage son), since they would automatically reset themselves after a power outage. They both immediately complained that the alarms were not loud enough, (both are VERY heavy sleepers). It does have a very light and polite beep with no volume control. However, the beeps gradually increase in frequency and after week of use, both of them are waking up easily to the sound and without the jarring blasts from our old alarms.

So, it may require getting accustomed to for heavy sleepers, but it's great for those of us who don't like to be blasted awake every day.

When our old alarm went out I had to find a new alarm quickly. When I found the Sony ICF-C318, I was just happy to discover it had no external antennae to deal with. What a bonus to find that not only was it small and inexpensive, but had no funky extra wires. It has two alarms & the time and date are automatically set! All I did is plug it in. The date was automatically correct. And if there's a power surge or power outage, it has a battery back-up (battery is included and already installed) and it loses no time. We didn't believe that, of course, and had to play with it by unplugging it a few times to test it, but it worked great! We didn't even have to re-set the time zone. Also, I usually had to re-set the alarm for my husband, but no longer. I set the A alarm for me and the B alarm for him and we are done. What I also found wonderful about this alarm was that when you set the alarm time, you can go backward or forward. Our old alarm could only go forward and it took forever; setting this alarm is a breeze. Amazing, truly.

Two alarm feature very easy to program. All functions work great. Battery backup and automatic time updates. I bought a more expensive Sony multi-alarm clock a few months ago and it works OK, but this clock is by far a better and less complicated unit.

I recently bought this to replace one that always lost the time if there was a power outage. Even new backup batteries did not help.

Pros: Small, nice radio reception, time is already set, keeps time in case of power outage

Cons: You have to re-activate the alarm daily after turning it off in the morning. Not a good thing!

Setting the alarm with the button on the side requires two hands.

Overall not a bad alarm clock though (if you remember to activate the alarm again :) ).

This is a good clock radio for its size, and all the features are easy to use. If you are looking for quality sound, this is not the clock radio for you. The only problem we have with it is that the buttons to turn the alarms on are on the top of the radio and easily moved so easy that our cats often turn on the alarms by walking across the top of the radio!

ezGear ezWake Alarm Clock Radio with Dock for iPod (White)

ezGear ezWake Alarm Clock Radio with Dock for iPod
  • Works with all iPods with dock connectors; Charges your iPod as it plays
  • Connects to TV, computer or stereo system; Video out allows video playback on your TV; Data port allows you to sync music with your computer
  • Runs on batteries (eight D) for portability; Battery backup keeps clock set during blackouts
  • Wake up to your iPod, buzzer, radio, or an external audio device; Sleep function fades out, alarm fades in
  • ezWake 22-function remote control included; Bright LED display with dimmer

First the low down:

Recommended as an iPod player with a bright blue clock, but not for its complex alarm and unreliable remote. I may return it.

Next the good news:

Impressive sound, convenient next station scan, iPod Nano second generation compatibility, white appleesque design and iPod controlling remote with many functions.

Now the bad news:

The set up for this thing takes forever. I had to use the instructions for everything. Successfully set up the time and presets, but not the alarm. It only has a few poorly labeled buttons on the unit with multiple functions for each depending on when, how many times and how long you hold them -and good luck memorizing the formulas. Even the sleep timer is unnecessarily complex. The AM and FM wire antennas are annoying. The reception is only good, not great, with the wires crawling up your wall. The blue light lights up the whole room until you put it in standby mode with nothing playing.

The unit doesn't respond to the remote unless it is perfectly pointed. Some functions can only be done with the remote. All the remote buttons are the same shape. So they are hard to memorize or use in the dark.

Buy ezGear ezWake Alarm Clock Radio with Dock for iPod (White) Now

Good luck operating this radio/alarm. I have an electrical engineering degree and normally never have any trouble operating anything. But, this radio is so poorly designed, it makes it extremely difficult to operate. The instructions need to be kept close by for the convoluted ways to set it up and operate it. Then the iPod works only after resetting it frequently. So forget about waking up to the ipod.

This is the worst piece of equipment I have ever owned.

I have Nokia's Mail For Exchange for Exchange email, latest Quickoffice Premier (excellent software) plus the rest of the software on the phone makes this a mobile office powerhouse. Once I got used to the BIG keyboard, I can fly. So I fly through emails and docs. The screen size is excellent as well. Last it is Nokia voice quality. I do use WiFi and wish the folks at Nokia would do some sort of 'smart sniffing' if WiFi available. Anyway, a bit expensive but a GREAT mobile office device.

The letters are small and the phone is heavy, not suitable for carrying in pockets or waist of trousers.

Full featured phone with clamshell form factor for business and network (browser/email) related tasks. Has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it including making VOIP calls via integrated Gizmo Project client, streaming Shoutcast internet radio, and watching TV via Slingbox.

The device has a Linux feel to its user interface. Not a lot of bells and whistles on the GUI, but solid performance. I'd have liked a more featured email client with the capability to load more than just headers on download, but it did support IMAP with SSL and authentication and works over the EDGE network in the US or over WiFi.

You aren't going to get a sexy slim form factor with this phone, but it is nicely designed and certainly full featured.

  • It supports most audio formats, including MP3, protected and unprotected WMA, WAV, and DRM-free MP3 downloads.

I bought my Sansa View 16GB two weeks ago and I am mostly satisfied. After downloading the latest firmware (.06A) I found most of the initial quirks have been addressed.

First, you will notice the construction which is very solid and, despite those who think the Sansa View is ugly, I find it elegant. The size is very appropriate, fitting easily in the palm, without feeling huge and not so small you will fumble and drop it (i.e. Zen V!)

Other reviewers have complained about the menu icons......This is really foolish since I did not purchase the View for it's "flashy" icons. Look it...the icons are obvious and glide smoothly along the screen in conjunction with the rotation of the data wheel.

The video functionality is very good. I use a Neuros MPEG Recorder II and it works flawlessly. I have had a bit of trouble with syncing videos with WMP 10, but I would sooner blame Microsoft not the Sansa View.

The downloaded Sansa Media Converter utility is not the best software, taking a long time to transcode files and lacking a lot of file support but I have many applications for this so it's not a problem.

Music files transfer easily with WMP with fast transfer speeds. (USB 2)

It's important, however, to make sure that "one off" downloaded songs and such are properly tagged, otherwise they will end up difficult to find.

The sound quality of the Sansa View is exceptional with no clicking, pops, or distortion. Volume levels are easily able to get above noisy environments, even without isolation type ear buds. The equalizer functions very well and your settings are held in memory.

Building playlists can be done with WMP or simply on the View. Browse your tunes and just press and hold the center function button and the song gets added to the playlist. Unfortunately, only one list can be assembled on the unit, although multiple lists can be imported with WMP.

You can also drag and drop audio and jpeg files right into the Sansa View Explorer pane. Non jpeg photos can be quickly transcoded with the Sansa Media Converter.

The Cons: Presently, there is no audio bookmarking function for long podcast files or audiobooks. (Bookmarking is available for videos)

Some video files within the advertised specs will not play.

Uses a proprietary usb cable

Virtually no cases available as of yet except one DLO case (which I bought) that is "hodge-podgy" and obscures the beauty of the Sansa View.

Although battery life is quite good, it is not as good as advertised.

The battery is not accessible and would require a factory replacement.

Other than these few cons, the Sansa View is a truly exceptional player. I am banking on future Firmware upgrades that allow Audio Bookmarking and better Video File Support, as well as address a few other quirks and stability issues. The hardware is excellent and obviously capable.

Considering prices for the 16GB around $200. (the price of the 8GB Nano) you really cannot go wrong with this device.....and, yes it does support non-DRM AAC files from your present itunes collection.

I'd say....."Buy it!"

I've read some pretty negative reviews about this thing, but now that I own one, I don't know why these people are knockin it. I don't think it is cheaply made, it feels pretty sturdy and it is indeed gorgeous. I didn't really have to read the manual to get this thing to work. I just plugged it into the USB port on my laptop and dragged and dropped my music folders and movies into the device. You don't have to install any drivers to get this thing to work either. I love how it displays the album art. The earbuds it comes with are pretty crappy. I replaced the stock earbuds with a pair of gunmetal black V-MODA Vibe ear canal headphones ($75.00 from Amazon) and this MP3 players sounds pretty damn amazing. People have knocked this thing for poor audio quality. You can't buy a 200 dollar mp3 player and use a pair of cheapo headphones. Buy a decent set and I guarantee you will be impressed with the sound. I am also impressed with the FM Tuner, I'm in Kuwait and it picks up the U.S. military AFN radio network with awesome clarity, my alarm clock radio hardly picks up the signal but my View picks it up perfectly and it sounds great. The voice recorder works and I have fun recording myself saying absolutely ridiculous things. Video looks great as well! I have watched Bruce Almighty on this thing. While the screen size is small, the picture is damn fine! I can't comment on using a music service because I don't use one at all. Inside the package comes with a mini CD that has some Best Buy Music Service on the disk. This is the only thing on the disk, no drivers or anything, junk IMPO. Another thing this player gets knocked for is that it is supposed to have gapless music playback, I really can't tell the difference so this isn't important to me, maybe to some it is, but I haven't really noticed if there is a gap or not. If you have a bunch of DRM protected songs that won't work, I recommend purchasing DRM removal software such as soundtaxi or tunebite which will turn DRM protected music to non protected files. I have used soundtaxi in the past and it works wonderful. To convert DVD's into MP4, I use a program called CuCusoft Ultimate DVD + Video Converter and I make my own MP4 movies which I can then drag and drop into the View itself, again, the videos look amazing. A couple of things worth mentioning. The package does include a quick start guide, but no user manual. Not even on the CD, the user manual must be downloaded from the sandisk website.

I have also spoken with techsupport and they recommend that the optimal video size to use while recording video should be 480x272. I have been using 320x240 so I will start using what they recommend. There is also an unofficial firmware update going around but according to the techsupport person I talked to, they don't recommend using it. I spoke with them on NOV 7, 2007 so if you flash to the new firmware, you do so at your own risk. I will be waiting untill the firmware is officially released on Sandisk's website. Sorry for the rambling, but this is an amazing MP3 player and is worth your consideration. I love mine, and I use it the gym every morning. I had originally purchased one from Amazon but it was backordered untill DEC 1, 2007. Best Buy has them in stock and they are shipping.

If you're looking for a media player (music, video, or other) and don't want to pay out the wazoo for some iThing, then this is you're BEST bet! Not only does it do everything that the Apple Pods do, but it also has FM radio and voice recorder. Also, ya get more GB for your buck. Compared to 8 GB in the Nano, you get double that for the same space, PLUS there's an SD Micro card slot to take that even further! The audio sounds EXCELENT, and you can change the EQ to your preference, not just presets. The video is crystal clear and fluid on a screen larger than the Nano. No squinting on this screen. I don't think I could've asked for anything better that this little player right here. So, if you're wanting to get a Nano or other media player, you need to give this a serious thought.

Want SanDisk Sansa View 16 GB Video MP3 Player (Black) Discount?

Let me preface this review by saying that all the necessary legwork needed in order to maximize the use of the Sansa View or any other player that I would have decided to purchase Windows XP updated, WMP 11 updated, all music properly archived, named, categorized, and tagged with album art, and ditto for photos had already been done.

That said, the View gets five stars from me on work ethic alone. All I did was plug it into one of my front USB ports with WMP open and running, and before I even realized what it was doing and stopped it, it had already found ALL my music & pictures without me giving it any direction whatsoever and had synched over 6 gig (more than the entire capacity of my previous player) worth of data...in less than two minutes!

Now, I stopped it because like most people I'm sure, I didn't want to sync everything, nor do I believe everything would have fit on it anyway. But since it was such an eager beaver, I decided to toy around for an evening with what it had already loaded onto the player, and I'm basing much of this review on a comparison to my previous player (Philips GoGear HDD1630, which I still own and still works well...battery power is only half of it's original life though).

The View is the same width as the GoGear, but almost an inch longer and about 1/4" thinner. The screen is more than twice the size of the GoGear, and takes up half of the front of the entire unit. It shows pictures and album art with as much resolution and clarity as any high-end digital camera on the market. Sound quality is superb for both audio files and the FM radio much more volume than the GoGear but without losing any clarity but I actually like the GoGear's earbuds a little better than the ones included with the View. Scroll wheel, menu and enter buttons are all on the face of the device (where they should be), easily accessible from many angles and finger sizes, and properly tuned for sensitivity. Speed of data transfer has already been covered. :-) And after an entire evening of intense scrolling, pressing, skipping, entering and holding, I barely knocked a dent into the battery life.

Menu navigation is a bit clunky and will take some getting used to. I was accustomed to the GoGear's style of menu navigation, and so far I still like it better. If you're accustomed to iPod menu navigation, you'd probably like the View's better. The biggest annoyance so far is that the 'Now Playing' screen will sometimes freeze after returning from the Menu screen, and you can't do anything with the player until it catches up to itself (15-60 sec.). But that may have been entirely due to my trying to do too much too fast.

You'll have to rely on someone else's expertise for the video features. I don't believe I'll ever warm up to the idea of sitting and watching something on a screen this small.

At the time of my writing this review, the 16g View was 30 bucks cheaper than the 6g GoGear when I purchased it in Jan. of '06. But even more impressive is that it's 15 bucks cheaper than an 8g Zune and 10 bucks cheaper than an iPod Nano. You do the math.

A high-quality set of eardbuds, a protective cover of some sort and a car charger (or maybe even just ONE of those three), And the View would run circles around the aforementioned players. I know nothing is ever perfect, but I think people would be willing to pay a bit more for some included accessories rather than hunting and paying for them separately, especially when you condiser how much bang for the buck this is.

I think the View has all the potential to snatch a significant share of the digital audio market. If you're like me, on your second or third digital audio player purchase (which many people are by now), I'd give the View a serious look. If this is your first DAP purchase, same advice...but do both the homework and legwork first.

4.5 Stars

I bought this 16GB Sansa View for my wife as a Christmas present. To make it an even better Christmas present I loaded all of her music, some choice pictures, and a few memorable videos. At first I was very satisfied with the View. It initializes fast and picks-up at the same screen that I shut it off at. Media transfer is super fast! The scroll wheel works great, in fact, I approve more of the View's physical wheel than the iPod's tactile wheel. The screen has amazing clarity and resolution isn't a problem. However, in opposition to these features that I liked, I did encounter a few disappointing glitches with the View that has me wanting to return it and try another brand. Perhaps I just got the one bad egg out of a hundred; but I'll inform anyone who wants to read on of my experience.

The music loaded just fine with one exception; I had to use a rear USB port to do it. For whatever reason my front USB port wouldn't identify the device. I have only one complaint as far as the View's capibility of to handle music. It doesn't have a method (as far as I know) to allow you to quickly scroll thru the Play/Song/Artist/Album List. Your only option is to scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll until you get to the bottom. A minor inconvenience.

The pictures appeared to load just fine. After loading the pictures I could go to the Thumbnail gallary and view all the pictures. Choosing a picture would display it in landscape view. You turn the player sideways to view the pictures and the controls even rotate to make navigation in landscape mode easy! Sweet feature. I had no problems until after running the first slideshow. All of a sudden two of the pictures became an unsupported media type and no longer showed up as a Thumbnail; they showed up as a generic Icon of a camera?!?! Another major problem will be mentioned below with the Video section.

The videos loaded fine as well. With the screens excellent resolution I was extremly satisfied with video quality. I watched all of the videos several times and I knew that my wife would really get excited once she saw how clear they were displayed. However, she never got to see them. I got everything loaded about two weeks before Christmas. I made sure that the battery was fully charged, then I boxed it up, and I wrapped it. Come Christmas morning my wife fired up the View and I just sat back in eager anticipation of her to stumbling upon the preloaded music, pictures, and videos. When she went into the pictures menu she asked me, "Why can't I see the pictures?" During the two weeks that the View spent under the Christmas tree it somehow lost the ability to display pictures and videos!!! Instead of the picture/video it displays the title of the file. With videos it'll play sound but no picture. I downloaded the latest firmware and that didn't fix the problem. It does the same thing with any new pictures/videos that I load also. However, a simple "Reset to Factory Default" feature fixed this problem

In the end there are just too many unacceptable aggravations for me to want to keep this MP3 player. Barring any firmware miracles, I'm going to return this and try the 16GB Zen.

Imagine electric alarm clock, with two alarm settings and FM tuner; with a power adapter and a coin battery backup as not to lose settings during power outage.

Now slap on top of that a small digital photo frame (3.5" diagonal, 320x240 the size of a regular GPS), with a remote control, memory card slot and USB connections (one for thumb drive and one for connection to PC to upload photos if need be).

And there you have it the result is Insignia NS-DPFC01 Clock Radio w/ Photo Display

I bought this to replace a Phillips photo frame & alarm clock combination for which the power supply had failed. This was a VERY inexpensive replacement, and it is probably a better design overall (the Phillips had some major design flaws). This is really two products in the same housing---a basic digital clock/radio, and a small digital photo frame. The clock has a battery backup, two separate alarms, and an FM radio. I would've liked an AM/FM radio, but for around $15, I can't complain. The original product I received had a failed back-light on the digital photo frame. The vendor replaced it very quickly---no complaints.

If you're looking for something simple and functional, this is a very good product. The photo frame is very small, but for the price, I think it is a very good value.

The overall feeling of this clock/radio is cheap. However, everything including the remote control works as advertised. I thought the tiny screen would be good for thumbnails, but full-size jpegs are what you want. I couldn't get it to read files from my laptop or smartphone; a cheap flash/thumb drive worked effortlessly. For around $20.00, I can't complain. It shows pictures, it has two alarms, a tinny little radio and a clock like the ad says.

I bought two of these. Both of them run a little fast. I have to set the clock time back a minute or two about once a month!

This is a small screen picture display but I wouldn't expect bigger than this because I was looking for some desk clock and alarm to keep on bed table, it displays my cute girl pictures all the time and the quality of image appearance is very good.

The DVD player came in with lots of features, backup camera capabilities, touch screen navigation through the entire menu, GPS navigation using IGO software (not latest revision), Bluetooth capability, AVI and DVD player, SD micro slot and many other features. The screen is awesome. There is only one bad thing about this DVD player, the clock is never correct. I had the receiver for 3 months and the clock is always messed up. Here is the scoop, if you set the clock from the main menu and then start the GPS, the GPS clock will over ride the clock setting, the only problem with this is that the GPS clock is set for China. No matter what you do, the clock will revert to China time. The installer told me the same thing about this bad feature in the radio. Other than that, the receiver is excellent. I would defiantly recommend it to anyone who wants a DVD with GPS 6.2" (not a flip up Screen) and DVD player.

I have tried the similar Pyle and Lanzar units and wanted to try this one. I liked this one with fixed CD slot instead of motorized flip down door, and having an actual volume knob instead of up/down buttons.

The manual was fair, wiring diagram poor like the other 2. It installed ok and ran as normal. I also wired up a backup camera which worked fine. The GPS is a little slow to load and startup, but seems to work ok after that. The menu/mode buttons are a little weird and slow, but you can eventually get to everything. I also tried pairing with iPod for streaming music via Bluetooth and that worked.

My biggest complaint is with the time and support. I could not get the hour to stick. It would randomly change. I assume the time zone was resetting. No matter what I tried I could not get it to stay. I tried contacting the company several times with no response.

So if you don't mind that, it is a good deal for the price. For me, that really bugs me and I hate having to reset it all the time.
