I've never written an online review before but his radio is great and is worth the trouble.

I'm a Ham Operator and I restore tube radios for a hobby so I've spent a few hours listening to DX, I know crap, I know hype, and I know a miracle when I trip over one. I started looking around for a pocket radio to keep in my truck because sometimes I would be caught working away from the shop for hours without any news or music. If you're a radio nut you can guess what happened next. A month later, probably twenty hours online and more than a hundred bucks worth of pocket radios and I wasn't happy. I'd had fun and now had some radios handy around the house for "adequate" use (radios & led flashlights, can't have enough!). Even though I had run across this radio online and in reviews I didn't put it on my list of probables, It was just a $10.00 radio and I was limiting myself to vintage radios with discrete transistor designs or new IC designs over $30 or $40 dollars. After all I wanted a "good radio". I was pretty much interested in an analog radio because in this price range digital sets are usually noisey, battery hogs, and plauged by "birdies". Finally, I ordered one of these because "what the heck" ten bucks, if it sucks I'll give it away. When it showed up I plopped in a set of AA's tuned the dial and heard lots of stations, good sign. Any radio that has analog tuning with a dial thats two inches across is a challenge, but thats ok. Low and behold theres KGNC from over 120 miles away and it's 1500hrs(3pm). What the hay! Listen up buyers, This radio is TEN BUCKS and it can hear stations others can't. No one has learned how to put sensitivity, selectivity, and audio into one box this size but this radio is a miracle! Don't get me wrong this is not a Sony 2010 or a GE SRIII, but it's small enough and cheap enough to have one in every room of the house and in each car. And the speaker is good enough that you don't have to use phones. It has a telescoping antenna for FM. Some radios that cost 6X as much don't have a tele. ant., they use the headphone cables. That means even if your using the speaker you have to have the headphones plugged in or the FM stinks. Since this is still a new toy it hasn't yet made it to the glove box in the truck, I'm still playing with it. I live in the Panhadle of Texas and last night I listened to a talk show in Nebraska before bed; woke up and touched the dial and there was a great morning show in San Antonio. If this radio was $70.00 I'd give it 3 or 3.5 stars, for TEN to FOURTEEN dollars it is a true bargain! Some others may review this radio and subtract points because of selectivity or something, remember this radio cost less than a good burger and fries! I've spent thousands of dollars on radios; Collins,Icom,Yaesu,Sony, and others. I have better radios than this one but I've never had anything for >$15.00 that was this good.

Buy two or three, I did.

I'm one of "those people" that always seems to have room for one more radio, even if it is roughly the same as many others I own. After reading several reviews for the ICF-S10MK2 and seeing the $10 price tag, I couldn't resist. After spending a few days of extensive listening, it has sent a few other radios to the display shelf. The Sony is a bare-bones FM/AM transistor no clock, dial lighting, bells or whistles. The clear plastic front and splash of brushed aluminum around the dial selector give it just enough style to be noticed. Controls are kept to a minimum at volume, tuning, and band-selection. The audio quality is good, but par for a transistor radio. As long as awe-inspiring surround sound isn't expected, you won't be disappointed. The FM antenna folds out from the left side of the radio and swivels around for optimal reception. A much better option than just protruding from the top. The earphone plug on the side is mono only, and will only play in the left ear with a standard set of headphones. FM performance is good a little too good, as the signals tend to overload a bit. Away from the city areas, FM signals come in distant and fairly well. The AM band is where this little Sony really shines. While most small radios can't cope with decent AM reception, this one goes above and beyond radios 3 times its size and 6 times the price. The AM tuner has excellent sensitivity and selectivity, and gives you the option of some tougher signal catches. I have been able to listen to a small station 35 miles away at 1140khz, while almost next to the antennas of a 50,000 watt monster at 1180. The S10MK2 performs some good feats on only 2 AA batteries, with an average listening life of 40-45 hours per set. Alot of enjoyment for little money. For a quick breakdown:

Although there are some radios that perform better than this particular Sony, you won't find any of them this inexpensive. For good listening on the cheap, make sure to get one...or two. Maybe 3 just in case.

I love this little radio. It gets great reception for all the AM talk radio shows I like listening to. However, like another reviewer mentioned, I too have a problem with the output jack. When I plugged in three seperate headphones they all only had sound for the left ear. If it weren't for that I'd probably give it five stars. After consulting sony's online FAQs I found that this is most likely not a defect in the product. To quote the site:

"If audio is being heard from the left side of the headphones only, ensure that the device from which it is connected has stereo output capability.

IMPORTANT: A mono device will only output sound to the left side.

NOTE: Generally, if a device has an output jack labeled EARPHONE it will be mono, while an output jack labeled HEADPHONE will be stereo. "

Sure enough this little radio does not have a headphone jack, just an earphone one. If you want this radio to use without headphones, or don't mind sound from only one ear then it's great.

For only $10, this is quite an impressive pocket radio. I've purchased many small radios over the years, and this one is by far one of the most sensitive ones I own.

Reception on both AM and FM is terrific, with great selectivity. It easily tunes into adjacent stations which come in very clear, almost as good as on a larger radio. There is an LED on the front to show when a station is tuned in, and the FM antenna can be extended and moved from side to side to get better reception. AM tunes up to about 1630 or so, rather than all the way up to 1710, but this probably won't be a big deal for most people, since there usually aren't many stations on that high end of the band. The carry strap is convenient, and the radio is very small and lightweight so it can easily fit just about anywhere. Sound quality is good alsoit's actually a little fuller than other small radios, and has decent clarity without being tinny. I do have one complaint, howeverin strong FM areas the local stations tend to come in all over the dial, allowing for very little reception of the weaker ones. Unfortunately this is a problem where I live, and because of that I only use this radio once a year when I go on vacation to the beach. It does an amazing job there since there are no strong stations in that area, and it's disappointing that I can only get good reception there and not where I live.

Overall I would highly recommend this Sony radio. I also own Panasonic's current model, the RF-P50, and while it also has a Sony IC chip it isn't quite as sensitive as the Sony version. If you live in a weak area, definitely consider picking up one of these Sony radios. You won't be disappointed.

These things were more or less perfected about 20 years ago. Since then, manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic have only made incremental improvements and cosmetic changes to the basic design. I have one of this model, and it lived up to my (low) expectations. Reception in both bands is quite good. Sound quality, as one would expect, is a bit tinny, but clear; far better for voice broadcasts than music. Fit and finish is decent as well, and the belt clip is metal rather than plastic, which means you can actually use it without fear of it snapping off and smashing your radio on the floor. But hell, it's so cheap that even if you do break it...well, it's just a cheap radio, albeit one that will probably outlast your CD player.

I bought this earlier this week.

Pros: Good sounds quality. LOVE the remote! Nap feature is handy. Nature sounds help drown out my neighbor playing his TV too loud :-) Projection is clear enough to see in the morning w/o my contacts.

Cons: There is a weird high pitch sound when the nature souund is playing and the projection is off. When I turned the projection on it stopped. It is not there when the radio or iPod is playing.

Overall I would but again.

I wanted to upgrade my prior alarm clock that played AM/FM radio and CD. I particularly wanted something that I could connect my iPod to, and this was definately it. It has a remote control also, so its perfect from a distance. The nature sounds are a great addition, too. You can set your alarm to play your iPod, nature sounds, AM/FM radio, or just beep like crazy. It has a projector as well so you can bounce the time off a wall or the ceiling. The LCD screen has two setting, bright and brighter. BUt it's a dark blue that adds a nice ambiance to the room. All and all its a great product. It serves its purpose. Could it be improved, yes. Downside is that it doesn't charge the iPod, but my car does so thats fine. Its not like I listen to it on the dock 24/7. The LCD screen isn't visible from certain angles, but the projected time takes care of that. I'd highly recommend if you're looking to upgrade your old-school alarm clockespecially if you have an iPod.

As long as the unit is turned on, there is this weird high-pitch noise. Very annoying unless you turn the volume to 0 or very high. DON'T BUY THIS!!!

I purchased this for 59.99 while in Texas and brought home to NJ. Despite indications that it handled all IPods, it would not charge my IPod Touch. I emailed customer service and received a response pretty much washing their hands of it and stating that they will not give refunds etc on products not bought directly from them...not sure how long they have been in business but i feel that with this type of inconsiderate attitude, they won't be for much longer.

I found out a week later that it was eventually reduced to $39.99. so apparently, like water, the price is seeking it own level--down with all the other crappy IPod accessories they have on the market, which do not work with newer IPods.

I received this off my Amazon wishlist for Christmas. When I set it up at home, it appeared to work fine though the buttons seemed a little cheap and the interchangeable docks fit into the receptacle a little funny. I packed it back into its original packing and brought it into work to keep on my desk, and suddenly the thing was bricked. It won't even turn on anymore, even though the ac adapter is getting power from the outlet and is plugged into the unit. I am returning it and plan on looking for another solution.

The 2 features I wanted--and found--in this nightstand clock were iPhone charging and white noise generating capabilities. I was surprised at how few such products exist with these features. It charges my iPhone 4 without problems, and the multiple white noise options are exactly what I wanted. The reason it loses a star (maybe it should lose 2 stars) is the light on the clock is far too bright, even at the lower of the 2 brightness options. Most of the time, I keep the light turned off.

The time display on this clock is incredibly (read: sleep-disruptively) bright. There are three settings: high, low, and off. On the "off" setting, there is obviously no illumination at all and you cannot see the display in a dark bedroom at night. On the "low" setting, the display was so bright that I could comfortably read in my bed with no other light on. Maybe that's useful to some people, but I generally choose to sleep with the lights off for a reason. I experimented for a few nights with turning the display off when I go to sleep, but then I have to fumble around to turn it back on if I wake up in the night, just to find out what time it is.

Even to me, this sounds like a minor complaint, but my wife and I both immediately agreed that there is no way we can sleep in a room with this clock in it. It's such a silly flaw that could/should have been adjusted in product testing, and if this clock is meant for your office or massage room, then I have no other complaints. Since I need an alarm for my bedroom, though, this one is going back.

As for the "high" setting -it's bright enough to replace your overhead lighting in a small bedroom.

A gift for my daughter and she thinks it is great! Up and running with all features working. Most important is that we had some questions about the product ...and after submitting an e-mail to the seller, he called us one day later to answer our questions...yes, called us via telephone! This comes with various dock inserts for different ipods. The one provided for ipod touch 2nd generation does not work with the 4th generation. I called Homedics and they do not have an insert for the 4th generation; they told me that if you use it without an insert would damage the ipod and the SoundSpa. I am returning it. Very disappointing. Otherwise seems like a good unit.

I've had my Sony Clock Radio for quite a while now. It's durable (I've dropped it several times down several flights of stairs, but it's still here and working) and performs as advertised. One minor complaint though. The radio doesn't go very loud without distortion. But who would want to crank an alarm clock radio up anyways??? Overall, this is a great product.

I refused because the problem was with a phone itself. They bargained again to send me a replacement phone. What??? To wait for replacement for another month??? Thank you!In the end I sent them the phone back and they supposed to refund my money. It has been 2 months now! I NEVER GOT MY MONEY BACK! INSTEAD I LOST MY TIME, MY NERVES AND MY MONEY AGAIN TO SEND THE ITEM BACK TO CHINA!!! FANTASTIC!

I've use this phone for 5 years. Now just changing battery. It's true that you can use it for 3-4 hours. But it's not a problem for me.

This is a nice little item. It has good sound quality and three types of alarm: radio, buzzer, and nature sounds (there are 3 or 4 of these to choose from). You can specify whether an alarm setting works every day, only on weekdays, or only on weekends. Each alarm setting has its own radio station or nature sound (and volume) associated with it. It's got a nice big snooze button on top, which doubles as a display dimmer (my favorite feature).

I've come across just a couple disappointments in the week that I've had it.

I thought I'd be able to create a radio-alarm setting for weekdays and another radio-alarm setting (same time, but different station) for weekends. Can't do it. You get one setting for each type of alarm.

The radio preset buttons are arranged in a line across the front of the unit. The band setting button is in that line too, to its left. So if you want preset #1, you've got to punch the second button. Hitting the first button switches you to AM.

All in all, though, it's worth the [money].

The digital tuner and stylish look drew me to this clock -I was tired of the drifting AM stations on my old analog-tuned radio. To my disappointment, I still get lots of AM drift on this Timex, but I admit it may just be a weak station that is to blame. Some may appreciate the ability to set different alarm times for weekdays and weekends with this clock -but I think it makes setup complicated, and holidays a frustrating anomaly -so I don't think it's any more convenient than the simple old-fashioned method of setting one alarm time and changing it when necessary. The nature sounds on this unit sound pretty awful -they range from vaguely artificial to unpleasantly harsh, so I don't use them. All in all, this clock has good speakers for its size, a fine digital readout, and features that you should only go for if they're worth the added complexity to you.

(...) After 9 months, I've decided to sell this alarm clock and buy a different model. Why? The main reason is that the snooze bar is located near a smaller button which turns the alarm off completely. During the first week of owning this clock, I somehow trained myself to hit the smaller button and fall right back asleep. Which is my fault more than the clock's, but still -it's a design problem in that these buttons should not be close together! I offered the clock to my wife but she found it too complicated to bother using. Too bad. The sound quality of the radio is very nice, but otherwise, there's no reason to hang onto this.

I purchased this for my husband who likes to sleep with some sort of noise. I thought this might work. Well, the nature sounds are the WORST I have ever heard. The LCS is not that big or bright and the snooze button is very close to the OFF button which is not good. I guess for someone who really likes gadgets and studies their new electonic toys may like this clock, but personally I found it confusing. This is not a pull out of the box and use clock. I swear you couldn't figure out how to set the alarm without the manual. You have to push 3-4 buttons to accomplish it. What we wanted if for was useless and there was WAY too many stupid extras. We ended up selling ours at a yard sale.

Most of the poor reviews here refer to the difficulty in setting the time/alarms on this clock. They say you need the instruction manual every time, yada yada yada. Here's the difficult sequence required to set the time: 1)Hold the "Time" button until the time flashes 2) press "Up" and "Down" until you reach the proper time. I did not use the instruction manual at all in my operation of this clock--it was totally self evident. As far as having to press up or down a million times, like one reviewer noted, try HOLDING it, it starts moving very quickly. The alarms are set similarly, and are turned off by touching one button, e.g. to turn off the buzzer alarm, press "buzzer" (reviewer "Jonathon Shakes" said it took several minutes with the instruction manual to figure this out??!!) I mainly wanted to refute these claims as they made me hesitant to buy the clock, and they are totally groundless.

Other than that, I would say it is a very good clock radio. I like the digital tuner, I like the three alarms and the ability to set each independently for 7/5/2 days. It has a good antenna and good speakers for a clock radio. It is small and loud and has a lot of features. The main drawback is that the "nature sounds" mostly sound like static, and repeat themselves like every three seconds. But that's not why I bought the thing, and I just don't use them.

Give this clock radio a try--it's really not as bad as everyone here is saying!

I did a lot of research to find a quality alarm clock for a decent price. I decided against one that played CDs because I already had a CD player and those tend to take up a lot of space (I have a fairly small bedside nightstand). While reading reviews on Amazon for a SONY alarm clock model, one reviewer recommended the Timex T309T instead, so I checked this one out on several websites. Most of the reviewers seemed pleased, so I asked for it on my wishlist and received it as a gift. My impression is definitely positive!

It was actually fairly easy to set up and program, nothing too high tech. My only little peeve is with setting the clock: the hour and minutes are not independent of each other, but rather you have to hold down the "forward" button until it passes 60 minutes to advance one hour. It's a minor technicality that is easily overcome, but still...

Other than that, I can't think of much else that I would change (though other reviewers had a couple of good suggestions). The battery back up is certainly a nice feature that's not found on other alarm clocks of comparable price. Another nice little feature is that the radio alarm setting has a sleeper mode that can be adjusted for 90, 60, 30 or 15 minute blocks of time. The nature sounds are not so natural, but the buzzer and radio work just fine.

Overall, a wonderful little alarm clock for a decent price. Definitely recommended!!

I love this phone! I can tell you a few negatives and I will, but let me first say this phone works really well and is a lot of fun.

I initially bought this very model of watch from another vendor about six months ago. I was using a different model before this with fewer features and I wanted to use this one instead, but it took me a while to figure out how to change the size of the band. When my other wrist phone suddenly died I need to figure it out and I did.

The great things about this phone are obvious. You don't need to worry that you'll lay it down anywhere and forget it. You won't accidentally drop it in your laundry because you left it in a pocket. It is expected to work with a wireless headset (I recommend a Plantronics with noise cancelling dual microphones), not included. However, should you leave your headset in the car, say, and you need to take a call, just slip it off your wrist, slip your hand through the band so the speaker is by your ear and talk into the band. the sound quality is great both ways. Nobody will believe you are talking on a wrist phone except for those around you, and their jaws will be on the floor.

Also this phone sends texts. Now texts are nothing amazing with today's phones but that this tiny phone is pretty easy to send texts from also impresses others. I mostly like that the phone is out of sight, out of mind, most of the time.

For some insane reason it came with two batteries. It is not easy to change batteries so I hope the spare battery has a good shelf life so it still works when the built in battery finally dies.

Downsides:

-Reception is not great; you will experience more dropped calls with this one than other phones.

-The USB cord is somewhat proprietary, or at least rare. I contacted the seller and ordered four spare cords.

-The cover for the USB is small and delicate, easy to lose and break so I ordered a spare.

-If there is a way to make this phone do any sort of app, like GPS, I've sure not figured it out.

-I've read this phone can do Wifi/Bluetooth tethering to a netbook but again I've not been able to figure it out.

-It has a rudimentary built in web-browser I've found pretty useless too, but it could be I've just not spent enough time figuring that out either.

-The phone weighs exactly half a pound, which strangely enough impresses people who ask to look at it.

I realize some of those downsides will cause some of you to avoid buying this phone, but it is just a matter of priorities. I believe the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. Also, just in case you can't tell, this phone looks great!

The service I'm using is from T-Mobil and costs about $80 month to month. Had I agreed to a 1 year contract they'd have given me a phone, but when I signed up with my first phone I didn't know if I'd even like the phone so I went month to month. If you already have a T-Mobil phone you can removed your SIM card from it and put it directly into this wrist phone, but don't plan on going back and forth as the SIM card is installed under the battery behind a cover with four tiny screws. (the phone comes with a tiny screwdriver for assembly)

If you do buy this phone, please take my advice and tape a medicine vial to the cord to store the USB cover in while on charge.

The watch only gave me fun for 3 months then it's function was unstable and the watchband was broken. I think the watch is only a toy.

Eveyone sais it is a bulkiy watch but it looks cool to me, the hardest thing is adjusting the links to make it smaller, I have adjusted everything from timex to Fossil, this one was hard!

Came with two batteries, but if you have to change one make sure you remember the screwdriver that comes with it (nice screwdriver) the battery lasted about a hour and a half listening to the MP3 player.

Picture Quality is pretty good I havent tried video yet, this watch is fun and deffenatly a conversation piece! and a lot less exspensive than a Ipod nano with the watch bad..

This is an excellent Cell phone watch it work very well and it will do the job that is design for. This Cell watch looks very good and is very elegant. The volume on the phone is excellent it can be use without the headset or Bluetooth in the car while driving. The Bluetooth work very well and is very simple to operate. The camera works good considering is a watch phone. The FM radio work good the reception is not that great but it works.

The reception on the phone outdoor is very well but you my experience some difficulty talking on the phone indoor but I expected that from a cell phone inside a metallic body. I just purchased this last week and received today. I needed something compact in size to fit my nightstand. With that being mentioned, I wanted it all in the same unit, meaning I needed radio with alarm clock, a cd player and now something not only to play my iPod thru but that can charge it at the same time AND let me choose to wake to my selection of tunes vs. being awaken by rude alarm buzzers or chatty DJ's. In addition, there's an jack for Aux IN. It's great. I chose this unit in black only because my previous system was dark in color. This docking system also has a remote control for powering on and controling cd/iPod operation. Remote control came with it's own battery already in compartment. I really like this music system. Doesn't cost mega bucks, sounds decent not tinny and operates the features that I wanted in a system. Thank you Jensen company for thinking this through. There are so many devices out there similar to this but lack either a cd player or a built in charging iPod dock.

I purchased this product, opened it up, and was impressed by this cool little unit. It has everything I hoped for..clock radio, cd player, ipod, and mp3 inputs. Unfortunately, the cd player would not recognize the lid as being closed. I ordered a replacement unit and the lid on this unit closed, but it wouldn't read any of my commercially made cd's. The unit looks good. The sound from the radio and the mp3 input is clear and loud enough for a bedroom. I was just a little disappointed with the cd player (twice). I haven't heard it play a cd yet.

I have been really satisfied with this system. It isn't too expensive and one of the few models that has an iPod dock *and* a CD player. I haven't had any problems with playing CDs (store-bought/burned). The clock is kind of hard to read from a distance (but I didn't really buy it for the clock). The sound is also pretty good (loud and clear). Remote works.

There isn't a dock/adapter provided for the 80gb Vid iPod but I just connect it directly to the model. If you leave the iPod in-it doesn't charge as fast as it would otherwise but I've found its always charged when I take it to the gym. Quite nice!

I have had this system for over a year. It has the worst remote I have ever seen. A remote that can't change the volume! You can't charge your iPod while listening to the radio. It slowly loses time. Not just a couple of minutes,In three months it has lost 15 mins!!! I can't use it a a alarm clock without having to reset the clock!! I would highly recommend stay away from this one!!!

I was very excited to receive this as a gift since it would replace three different electronics on my night table. After using it for a few days I have to say that I am disappointed with several features and what I consider to be serious design/quality control flaws.

The positive thing about this product is it has very good sound, both using the speakers and headphones. But what I found wrong with it really kills the good sound.

When I opened the box and was testing it out the first thing I noticed was that the door to the CD compartment would stick and not open all the way. I re-boxed it and took it back to the store, they did not have any in stock so I drove across town to their other store to get another. Took this home, same problem, so I'm led to believe this is not an isolated problem but a design or quality control flaw. I figured I would keep it and just deal with the sticking door because I liked the sound. I did write to customer service and basically recieved a response that told me I could open the door by pressing on the lid and sliding forward 1. this does not work, the lid is just too smooth and slippery, and 2. I pointed out to them, the manual says nothing about doing this; it clearly states, "...press the Push Open [arrow icon] located on the CD Cover to open the compartment." Again, I figured I can live with this feature. I did not appreciate a customer service response however that tried to tell me I was not following the instructions, which I was, and basically made up a procedure.

The other feature that is a bummer is, if you have headphones plugged in not only does it kill the sound but also the alarm. So, if you're like me and like to listen to a CD or your iPOD while falling asleep, you can't use the alarm this way, you won't hear it when your headphones fall off. I think this is a major flaw. So, I'm back to having an alarm clock on my night table as well as this product.

The other design feature has to do with the radio tuning. There is no digital tuning, you do it with a turning dial that is laid out pretty even with the cabinet that you basically turn with the tips of your fingers, it's not a full knob. The dial does not turn easily nor is it calibrated well to the display. This coupled with having to grasp the CD door to open I think would be a real problem if you have anything wrong in your hands like arthritis. Don't snear you people that don't have to deal with this.

The radio reception I find to be not very adequate. You have to turn the cabinet and adjust the FM antenna far to much for my liking. When my cat climbed up on the bed near the unit he interfered with the reception, when the heating unit turned on, static.

Something that is not a major flaw, but you need to consider whether it will bother you is the light in the LED Display even on its dim setting is pretty bright. If you are sensitive to light you need to turn this off which means you can't see the display at night. But this is more of a personal preference.

I really wish I could give this a better rating, but because of the design/manufacturing flaws I can only really give it a two. The response from customer service makes me really question what kind of honest response I'm going to receive from them. The person who contacted me directly from the company was actually pretty good and helpful, it was the person who responded to her whose email she forwarded to me that I found somewhat insulting. But I'm sorry, it just rubs my fur the wrong way when a company response is to try and pass the fault off on to the customer.

It's bright and colorful and does actually talk on the hour, even if the voices are a bit loud and a little mechanical sounding but then again, these are M&Ms we're talking about, not humans. I am a long time owner of Squeezebox products and was pretty excited to find out about the little table top Squeezebox Radio model. I picked one up and thought I would share my thoughts.

The first thing you notice is how much heft this little player has. It is really well built and the fit and finish is superb. It has plenty of weight and solid rubber feet so that it won't skid around on your night stand or table top. The screen looks great and all of the buttons have a nice solid tactile feel. Compared to many other cheap wireless network streaming radios, this device feels an entire order of magnitude better in its construction quality. The only disappointment here is the lack of back lit buttons, for using the radio in low lighting. It's also worth noting that the entire radio has a high gloss finish that will be a magnet for fingerprints. Looks great though!

The biggest challenge for most consumers with this device will be the initial set up. You need to create an account at in order to set up your new Squeezebox Radio. The device uses this connection to play free internet music services as well as download software updates, etc, to the Radio. I already had a Squeezebox account so this was not a huge challenge for me, but it might be for some people who might be confused that they need to set up an account before they can use the device. There is an option to set up the account from the device itself. Don't do this (it is slow and tedious)! Go to the website and set it up in a few seconds and then just type your login and password on the device.

Other than the laborious task of entering my full email and password for the rest of the setup is very easy. The Squeezebox Radio supports push to connect wi-fi set up which is common on many newer model wireless routers. It's similar to programming a garage door opener. Simply point the Squeezebox Radio at your wireless network and for 120 seconds it will try to connect with the push to connect functionality. Then just push the connect button on your router and it's automagically all set up.

Once set up the Radio will update its firmware and reboot, a process that takes a few extra minutes. After that you are good to go.

In addition to the many built in free online services, you can also play your own music through the Squeezebox Server application. I run the Squeezebox Server application on my HP EX495 Windows Home Server but you can also run Squeezebox Server on any Mac, Windows PC or even Linux box (there are even installable distributions for many Network Attached Storage units). This allows the Squeezebox Radio (and any other Squeeze players) to access all of the music on my home network. It's absolutely wonderful to be able to take the little table top radio anywhere in the home and listen to your entire music collection.

Sound quality is very good, easily enough to fill a small to medium sized room. It gets quite loud with little to no distortion and the controls are easy to use to change tracks, change volume, etc. Wireless strength is superb. I get a full signal anywhere within about 40 feet of my router, and the radio works anywhere on my suburban property with no audio hiccups or dropouts.

In addition to the intuitive controls such as "home", "play", "stop", "back", etc, the unit also features six programmable "preset" buttons similar to what you have on a car radio. Setting these up is a bit more of a challenge than you would expect. You are supposed to be able to hold these down on any song, album, playlist, etc, that is being displayed in the radio menu and have it added as a preset. Unfortunately some items don't add correctly and must first be programmed as a "favorite". It turns out that you can only add favorites for some items (such as playlists) from the Squeezebox Server web based menu, which is quite inconvenient. I don't doubt that Slim Devices (the arm of Logitech that makes these devices) will fix this soon enough.

Other minor glitches include some weird alarm behavior (it will show the time of the alarm when it is going off but strangely won't show the current time, which is annoying if you have hit the snooze button a few times and need to know what time it is), some auto dimming issues (the auto dimming works great but gets almost TOO dim in a dark room to see the radio) and a few other very minor nits.

Slim Devices have a long history of enhancement and improvement of device firmware, so I would expect a lot of these issues to be worked out in the coming months. Additionally there will soon be a battery pack and small infrared remote for the Squeezebox Radio available as a $ add on purchase. Personally I think at $ the Radio should include these items, but considering the great sound of the radio, the high quality screen and the superb fit and finish it is justified that this device costs as much as it does.

Also worth noting is that if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone you can get the iPeng application $ from the Apple App Store which makes controlling and programming your Squeezebox Radio an absolute breeze. iPeng is really a must have if you have these devices and want a wonderful pocket control that works from anywhere in your home. Beats the pants off of what Sonus has to offer!

Yesterday my SB Radio lost all of the preset buttons which is most annoying. It also turns out that many of the requests for fixes around the alarms functionality have not been addressed and don't appear to be scheduled to be addressed in the next release or two of the software. If your primary use will be a night stand alarm clock I would recommend holding off for now until Logitech addresses alarm functionality issues. If the issues are not resolved I will reconsider my four star rating as it should then be a three star product.

Logitech has not only not fixed many of the initial annoyances with the SB Radio, but newer firmware has in fact made the product less stable and reliable. It still does an admirable job of playing your local music library if you run the SB Server on a PC or Mac in your home, but the network streaming functionality seems to be having issues and I've found the alarm to be terribly unreliable. I would now under the current circumstances rate this only 3 out of 5 stars. It's really a shame too, as the "Slim Devices" that originally brought us these problems was very open and communicative about issues and what was being done to fix them. Logitech has little interest in relaying useful information to its beta testers, err, customers and instead gives us the run around with if and when issues will ever be remedied.

I've had the Squeezebox Radio for just over a week but that's long enough to decide what I like and what still needs some work. First, set-up was a snap. The radio found my wireless network instantly and I was able to enter the password and connect quickly. The radio them updated its own software so I was working with the newest release.

What do I like? The radio seems solid. It's heavy enough that you can press the buttons with the radio on a nightstand and not have it slide. The front is angled back which helps even more. I'd call the sound quality though not stereo excellent. There's no comparison between how this radio sounds and the Sony clock radio I replaced it with. It has a very clear, crisp sound.

What don't I like? I had the radio only three days when it lost all it's presets. I re-entered them and all has been well since. This is a well known bug. I am using and NOT using my PC so the problem is likely there. Presets should be stored locally, not on a server. I saved all my presets as favorites so they MIGHT be there the next time this happens (then again, maybe the favorites list will be erased, too). I'd like to see an easier way to set the sleep timer. You have to use the menu and it should be a simple button press. Why not use the power button and cycle through sleep settings? i.e. ON ... 45 ... 30 ... 15 ... OFF? There also needs to be a simple way to snooze. Maybe the big button in the middle?

The auto-dimming setting gets awfully dark at night! I should be able to set a minimum brightness level that suits me.

And I'd love to see the apps include weather radar. Yes, this is a radio but it's got a great color display and being able to watch live weather radar on the screen would be super. A general weather app that makes use of this display would be a plus! Come on Logitech, get with it! This radio has more possibilities than, well, radio!

Later: I've had the radio for a month now and am no longer quite so excited. I reduced my initial 4 stars to just 2 stars. This radio is buggy! My initial loss of the presets has now been followed by a loss of the volume control. There was absolutely no way to get it back besides a "factory reset" which removes every setting I so carefully made. You should be able to simply sit down and enjoy a radio, not beta test a product.

I am returning it within Amazon's 30 day window. I've had enough.

When the Boom came out, I wanted to purchase it right away, but the $300 price tag and the inability to truely make it wireless detered me. Now that the Radio is out with a lower price tag, battery capability and a color LCD, I was totally sold. I've had the Radio for about a week now, and I simply love it. Even the wife was jamming to it when I got home from work the day after I bought it.

So far I have only had one issue with it...I can not find a setting to set the Album Art size to full screen on the Now Playing screen. It says in the manual that it is under the Screensaver settings, but when I go there it doesn't exist. I sent an email to Logitech support, but have not heard back from them yet. [Updated] Logitech just released a new software version that will correct this issue.

Another cool feature that I didn't realize existed, was the ability to control the Radio from the web.

As far as sound quality goes, it is far better than expected. There is virtually no distortion even at maximum volume. I even plugged a set of Computer Speakers into the Headphone Jack and it didn't make that much of a difference. The Base levels aren't that deep, but they are there. I can put it in my livingroom and pump it up near max volume and hear it clearly throughout the house.

I haven't tested the Wireless strength extensively yet, but I was able to hook it up in the garage (1 Floor below and 50 feet from the router) and the signal strength was near full.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and can't wait to get the battery pack so I can just carry this thing around anywhere.

This COULD be such a great product, but the radio firmware is HORRIBLY BUGGY! As other reviewers have observed, the radio will power off for no reason, will lose connection to the internet forcing you to constantly unplug the unit, hold down buttons upon restart, and then enter your WIFI codes again and again (not a good thing if you have a lengthy password). I have spent countless hours on the phone with Logitech support. While they are kind on the phone, they don't have an answer, and will walk you through the same instructions time and again with the same results; the next day or two, and your radio doesn't work again. I have been promised call backs from them within 24 hours with "someone who knows how to fix the problem", and no one ever calls. The last person I talked with told me I have to send the product back to them, despite the fact that they know it is a firmware problem which they have no idea if/when it will ever be fixed, and maybe a new unit will work better. What?? I was told they want to further study my radio to find out what is wrong with it, as everyone seems to be complaining of the same problems. How can a unit with the same problems be "fixed" of a known firmware problem that stymies the entire product line's function?? I love the look, sound, and feel of this radio, but it doesn't work the way it's advertised. I'm very disappointed.

This radio has lots of good things going for it when it works. Unfortunately it does so at best half the time at other times it loses the connection to (which you need for almost all functions except streaming music off your PC), powers down randomly, stops playing for no obvious reason, the screen freezes and shows details of a previous show, etc. (We have one desktop PC and two laptops hanging off the same wireless network at home, so are sure that the network itself is fine.) The support forums at logitech and slimdevices have been awash with complaints about this apparently caused by firmware updates in combination with changes at but the problem remains unsolved. What is especially maddening is that the radio worked just fine from Jan to Mar 2010, so it's also clear that this is not a hardware problem! It is possible to roll back to an older firmware version (by installing the appropriate older version of the squeezebox server on a PC, and asking the radio to connect to it using "My Music"), but even the pre-April firmware version (4.2) now has the same problems as the more recent ones.
