This is an under-the counter product. Normally if you want this in your kitchen you would place it under a kitchen cabinet. For mounting this product comes with 4 machine srews, 1 and 1/2 " long. Most cabinets have a decorative lip extending 1" in front of the cabinet. I had to go to the hardware store and buy 4 #6 machine screws 2 and 1/2" long. I was lucky because I had an under-the-counter radio that this product replaced. My former unit came with "spacers" that extended the unit because of the 1" lip. I used the former units spacers. I repeat, I was lucky.

Also you need an antenna. This was omitted in the product description. So if you want this product for the kitchen counter, envision where you would place the antenna.

Here's the kicker. This product has a clock. When you turn the power off the clock disappears and all you see is "-" instead of the time. Crazy? Yes.

The TV and all other functions are great, it's the things I have just related here that are omitted and should be considered before you buy it.

This product is about half the cost of similar products by other brands. I would venture to say that it is roughly half the quality as well.

1stthe remote DOES NOT come with a magnet.

2ndthe length of the screws is not sufficient for mounting under any cabinet with a lip. You will need longer screws and probably wooden shims to make a secure connection. (It would be a good idea to buy washers as well since without them you could damage the inside of you cabinets.)

3rdthe unit is too deep for some cabinets and makes plugging things into the back very difficult. (plus no cord managment system, so if you like to have a nice clean counter with no plugs, you'll have to rig something)

4thLike other reviewers, my unit had problems playing DVDs and would pause after every few seconds of video. Then it would not play at all or eject the DVD even after 15 minutes of trying. HOWEVER a light punch to the front of the unit (near the closed DVD tray) immidiately ejected the DVD and now plays them flawlessly. Before bothering to UN-install the whole unit, repackage it, and sent it back for replacement I would suggest trying a little violence.

In all seriousness, buying this unit is a bit of a gamble. A lot of people have had issues with it, and as a whole it's just not very well designed. But if you get one that works and you don't mind working for it. You CAN get a lot of useable features for a good price, all in this one product.

I find that the produce works fine, although it had to be connected to cable to get the TV to work. The first TV that I received was broken and had to be returned. The DVD tray was jammed and would not open or close.

Installing the TV was not that easy. The tempelet did not line up with the front of the product and I had to add an additional piece of paper to get the proper alignment. The first TV came with three sets of screws of different lengths to attach the TV under the cabinet. The second TV had only one set of short screws which did not work. I had to purchase larger screws to attach the TV to the cabinet.I now have a box of 46 extra screws. Customer service at Coby was not at all helpful.

I shopped at 5 in-town stores. They didn't have a combo AM/FM/TV unit. Researched on the net, found this COBY. It replaced a 7" black/white combo with an antenna. Mounting took a little time, but even with spacers, the screws were long enough. The remote has a magnet, the sound and picture are fine. The digital clock now stays on even when the unit is off. One point, the instruction booklet was difficult to use. Called the toll-free number, and a truly helpful man talked me through the set up for at least 1/2 hour. That's great customer service.I am very satisfied.

I replaced my old RCA 13 inch under the counter TV with this Coby model. I was initially concerned that the screen might be too small, but after installing the unit, I was very pleased with the sharp picture, the ability to swivel the screen 360 degrees for easy viewing from the kitchen sink to the island counter to the dining room. Installing it under the counter was not a problem. A few small drilled holes, four 2 1/2 inch M4 screws were needed to clear the cabnet molding but it was easy to do. The unit is much lighter than my old TV which made installation easy. If I can do it anyone can. I have it hooked to my cable outlet. Channel setup was easy, the DVD player is great. This unit is well worth it's reasonable price.

This speaker set really sounds great. I am an audiophile who would usually go the extra $$ for the best sounding unit (i.e. the Bose Sound Docks or something comparable) but you can only spend so much on peripherals. FYI, I checked out the various dock options on Amazon.com. I've heard the JBL On-Stage at a friend's house and liked it, but I was concerned about all the feedback in the reviews about that unit's volume control issues. Speaker sound is all about personal preference and hearing those speakers in the environment where they will be played. I went with the Klipsch for 3 reasons the company is known for making high-end tower speakers, the unit includes an "S" video jack for showing videos and podcasts on my TV and the reviews here and elsewhere were positive. I normally wouldn't buy speakers without hearing them first, but I relied on the reviews and the company's reputation and besides, the pricing was good and I could always return the speakers if they didn't sound great in my house.

I received the unit and unpacked it in my bedroom, where it will ultimately be used. It was super-simple to setup indeed the instruction manual is only 3-4 pages of large type. I put my iPod on the unit and fired it up. The sound that came forth was crisp, clean and impressive. Frankly, not to knock Bose, but the sound was about as good as the sound from my Bose Wave Radio which cost more than 3X what the Klipsch cost. The sound is excellent with lusty base, crisp treble and superb midrange. I have played a variety of music and have been continually impressed with the sound reproduction. Pop, Hip Hop, Classical, Jazz you name it, this Klipsch really delivers. And it fills my moderate-sized bedroom with music without any trace or distortion and it sounds very natural. I haven't used the S-Video hook up to view videos yet, but I'm sure it will work well also. In my opinion, this is the best unit at the $150 price point it will not disappoint!

Here are my overall pros and cons for the Klipsch:

Pros:

-> Attractive form factor and reasonably small foot print

-> Easy to set up

-> Sound quality is excellent at all ends of the musical spectrum

-> Price is very reasonable

-> Fills the room with clear, crisp music at any volume level sounds great on low or played loud

-> Has video connection for movies and podcasts many other speaker sets don't have this feature

Cons:

-> The volume buttons on the unit itself don't have a smooth positive feel they are stiff in their operation

-> A screen like that of the Altec Lansing would be nice so that you could see the volume level and other key operating statistics of the unit

Bottom Line: If you appreciate good sound reproduction, this is the unit for you!!! Take it home and try it you can return it if you don't like the sound. But trust me, you'll love it!!!!

Here's the quick. The Klipsch is quite good but not quite great. I performed my own side-by-side comparison of the Klipsch iGroove SXT ($149) to the Bose SoundDock Portable ($359).

Bose

* Richer, deeper more robust sound. Truly is impressive.

* Touch volume buttons easier to push (vs. Klipsch mechanical buttons take a little force).

* Cord transformer part of the plug plus the cord can smartly be partially hidden in the transformer to let out only the amount of cord you want (vs. Klipsch transformer in the middle of the cord that clutters the countertop). Advantage Bose.

* Achieves louder volume (though Klipsch is pretty good too).

* Heavier unit, presumably a reflection of larger speaker magnets. (Both units have essentially the same countertop footprint but the Bose is taller.)

Klipsch

* Very good sound, but just not as impressive as the Bose.

* Exchangable docking port for various MP3 players (though the one-size-fits-all on the Bose works fine for my iPhone).

* Accepts the iPhone without a warning. (Annoyance of the Bose: it displays a warning message that it's not compatible with the iPhone even though it actually is.)

* Price.

Bottom Line:

If you have $149 to spend, buy the Klipsch and you'll be happy. If you have $359 to spend, buy the Bose and you'll be very happy.

If you know Klipsch like I know Klipsch, then you, of course, should not be surprised at the great sound. The bass is not exactly earth shaking, but with the type of music I'm currently listening to (Jazz, New Age, Alternative), it suits my bedroom just fine. I'm definitely hearing a wider range of sounds than before. The system itself is pretty small (a lot smaller than I expected) but with the nice sound coming out, I'm glad it's a space saver.

My main concern is the docking connector. When you dock the Ipod/Iphone, it is only held up by a small connector; your Ipod/Iphone is not thick enough to lean up against the wall of the slot for support. Therefore, when you use your Ipod/Iphone, it definitely jiggles and will eventually loosen the connector. My easy solution: I folded a piece of tissue for support! :-)

(Also, the volume switches on the speakers are hard to push, but the remote solves this concern.)

Hopefully the next edition of the iGroove will address this problem, but until then, I'm enjoying this Klipsch immensely.

We shopped for our ipod/iphone speakers very carefully. Tested brands at stores, read reviews on various websites, and a week prior to purchasing, were fortunate enough to have use of the Bose Wave System. I have the Altec Lansing In Motion speaker system from a few years back. Terrible. Really awful connection. I will say the Bose sounded excellent, but the price is prohibitive. Bose does a lot of advertising, has stores, info ads, etc..I know thats part of the cost. Klipsch, on the other hand, makes speakers, thats it. The sound of these speakers is on par with the Bose systems. Its a wonderful speaker system for the price. Works perfectly with all makes and models of ipods and iphone, no feedback at all. When running the iphone, you can use any number of internet and satellite radio apps available in the app store. All in all its an excellent product for the price. I would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for very good sound quality, but not looking to spend $200+ and I would purchase Klipsch products again for sure!

After upgrading my home stereo to a $7K home theater I began to enjoy my old music library in a new way. I'm no audiophile, but I'm now enjoying music listening a whole lot more. When I want to immerse myself in sound I head down to the basement to rock out.

Despite the big splurge, I'm still cheap. I hate spending more money than I have to. I started looking around for a decent iPhone speaker system for the kitchen where we spend most of our time, but I didn't want 4ft tall tower speakers and a big amp on the counter, I wanted something compact and that doesn't draw a ton of attention to itself. But also after hearing what good music could really sound like, I didn't want something that sounded plastic and hollow.

I was about to default to the Bose sound dockeven though I really hate paying that much just for name brand. I knew there had to be a good middle road. Everything else I could find was in the $50-150 range but sounded terrible. Until I tried this dock. Side by side the Bose has a deeper sound in a big open space, but if you're looking for a more neutral sound (ie you don't want everything to sound hip hop) this will sound better to you. 4 Separate drivers gives cleaner sound to my ear. Certainly, for the $100 I saved by not going with the Bose sounds good too. There is plenty of bass for a counter top unit. It plays plenty loud without distortion. We've had it about 6 months.

Obviously, if you're looking for the "best" sound, go get a real amp, real speakers and probably a sub. If you're looking for a simple compact counter unit that will do your music justice with clear treble and decent bass, but you don't want to spend $100 just on the name badge, this is a great choice.

Ilive Clock Radio for Iphone/ Ipod

Ilive Clock Radio for Iphone/ Ipod
  • Compatible With All iPod & iPhone Models With A 30-Pin Dock Connector
  • Plays & Charges Docked iPod & iPhone
  • Lcd Display

I am really sorry I bought this clock radio. It is too bright for me to use (but my son likes the night-light effect.) However, after about a week of using it, our whole family noticed a high pitched squeal coming from the 5 volt power supply. Unfortunately the store from which I purchased it didn't have any more to exchange it for me. I emailed iLive, but I didn't hear back from them. So I called them, and because I didn't have a receipt, they weren't willing to mail me a replacement power cord. They said I could BUY a new one for $17. Give me a break!

I also have a different clock radio from them, and it is also too bright to use as well, plus the controls are extremely confusing. I would avoid iLive altogether.

The product worked great. It was super easy to set up and use. The sound was good for a clock radio. Unfortunately, when I turned off my lights at night, it looked like I had a street lamp in my room. There was no way to dim it, and I ended up covering it with a towel to sleep. It will be going back. Can't sleep when I'm blinded!

I purchased this clock/radio/dock for my new phone. It worked initially (sound), but as I'm mostly using it as a phone dock, I didn't try the sound aspect again for about another week. The next time I tried turning it on (radio, iPhone) there was nothing. No sound. I played with it a bit changing between radio stations/iPhone, etc. and at some point it kicked in and seemed to work. I had no idea what, if anything, I had done to make it work. Didn't try again for a few days. That time it didn't work again. Messed with it a bit with no luck. A few weeks later same thing. I just will not make any sound. Alarm won't make noise either. Basically the only thing it does is tell time and charge my iPhone. Called support and they tried to "troubleshoot" which included unplugging it for 30 seconds. Hadn't saved the receipt so after DPI told me they couldn't help me without a receipt, luckily the store I purchased it from was able to look up the receipt for me from a month earlier and I will be sending it back for a replacement. Don't even really want this model again but it's better than being out $35. Hopefully the replacement will at least work. Definitely would not recommend this unit. It even feels like a cheap piece of plastic. If I could have given it zero stars I would have.

Does not have gradual wake function as indicated by product.

The manufacturer claimed if I want the volume to be gradual, I must change it manually after I wake up!

If you like a lot of bass in your music, you are going to like this product, in my opinion it sounds great. As for the connectivity, it works pretty good for me as well, however, I have not really made full use of the blue pin technology that the unit comes with. But it seems to be working OK as far as I have tested it.

This design is very high tech, and when the lights are dimmed, the blue glow looks awesome. This unit can be powered by 8 'D' size batteries, so it can be taken on picnics, or just outdoors when hanging out with friends.

iLUV is a brand that is produced by jWIN, so if you make the purchase, I recommend that as soon as get it that you test it fully, to make sure that it is working properly, and that you are satisfied with the quality.

Bought this for a birthday present. Shipped very fast from Universal Mania. no damage to box or packaging. In fact it was in the original unopened manufactures box that was boxed again inside Universal Mania's box. So damage from shipping was not the issue.

This was DOA from the factory. Tried it with AC and batteries, nothing, no lights, no hum, nada, zip, zero, a pile of pretty plastic. iLuv quality control is non-existent. The only good news is the RMA was reasonably painless. One email to Universal Mania and I had an RMA # within hours. Once they received it, I waited a couple of days for them to process it and sent another email requesting status. Again the reply was the same day and a few days later received confirmation from Amazon of the credit to my account.

Amazon Again Absolutely

iluv product again Absolutely NOT!!!!

12-BAND AM/FM/Lwith SW1-9 Highly Sensitive Multi-band Radio

12-BAND AM/FM/Lwith SW1-9 Highly Sensitive Multi-band Radio
  • LCD display with real time clock function
  • Alarm clock function
  • Built-in telescopic antenna
  • Requires 2 AA batteries (not included)

I know this is an inexpensive radio but I still expected more than delivered.

Cons:

1. Display screen was badly stained/clouded underneath the protective plastic.

2. Tuning on the AM band was off by 5-6 Khz.

3. Large gaps in housing seams (two pcs of the body didn't fit together well at all).

4. Reception of both AM and FM bands was quite poor.

5. Takes 2-AAA batteries, not 2-AA like the description states.

6. I returned mine for the above reasons, mostly 1 and 2.

Pros:

1. Very cool looking radio, the design sold it.

Summary:

Not recommended as it appears this radio is a good example of "you get what you pay for" and I expected more.

Buy 12-BAND AM/FM/Lwith SW1-9 Highly Sensitive Multi-band Radio Now

Somewhere during my adolescence I became extremely interested in shortwave (SW) radio. In the years as the internet was still a cultural seedling,it seemed like a way to bring the rest of the world a little closer for the non jet setter. Also there just seemed to be something very fascinating about hearing the opinions, voices and music of other worlds and languages. Now this little device is by no means my first shortwave receiver,it's actually the first radio I've owned in a long time. And note that during my life I've never been without a radio. And I didn't even buy this. It was won in a contest. That being said I was expecting next to nothing in terms of quality. I was actually pleasantly surprised.

Usually I avoid personal stories when reviewing anything. Sentimentality is not something I think is wholly necessary for even an amateur product reviewer. But in this case it's really essential to this radio's performance in my life. During the end of August this year my area was ravaged by Hurricane Irene. I've never been one of those people who reacts well in power outages. And everyone was warned this hurricane could cause that. For a long time it didn't. But eventually that night, around dinner time it did. It was honestly a very frightening experience for me. Even as an adult. Seemed as if the world I knew had gone dark and disappeared.

I had almost forgot I had this radio and it was laying around dressed up with nowhere to go. Honestly........hearing it not only took my mind completely off of the intimidating storm but I was amazed at the audio quality and receivability of the stations, especiall FM and SW. Now shortwave signals, even on the best radios are difficult to pick up. But on this one? Very happy with the performance. Because I am hardly an expert of radio quality,I suppose an experts example of a "good" sounding radio might be "great" to me because I judge the medium from a somewhat different criterion. No matter how you get around it though this is an excellent budget priced radio that will do the trick if you want an easy to operate, and sleekly retro looking AM/RM/SW radio in your kitchen, office or just by your bedside wherever you are.
