TEAC MC-DX22I Ultra-thin Hi-fi System for iPod

TEAC MC-DX22I Ultra-thin Hi-fi System for iPod
  • Vertical CD Drive Unit
  • Supports CD and CD-R/RW disc formats / Reads MP3 CDs
  • Motorized CD Door
  • 20-selection Random Memory Program
  • Repeat (One/All), Shuffle Play

I purchased this system because I was looking in particular for a compact stero with a built in iPod dock. This compact stero has that, with good functionality and a decent sound thanks to its' included subwoofer. However I only gave it three stars based on a couple of factors that were frankly mentioned in other reviews. First of all the remote is thick and heavy, and needs to be pointed directly at the system or it will not be sensed. The biggest criticism however has to do with the display it is so faint that it cannot be read at any angle except if viewed straight on. TEAC must have been aware of this because I saw an identical unit at Costco last week with a much more easily seen black LCD display.

We absolutely love this stereo. We got one last year (without the iPod capability), and the the sound is phenomenal considering the size. We did a little creative wiring and hooked it up to the TiVo unit and have a mini sound system in our bedroom. Since it only has an auxilary input and not a "Left" and "Right" cable, we had to put a splitters that separate the left and right and plug that into the TiVo unit. That was pretty simple and you can't get better sound that that for the price and size.

Of course, you don't have the ability to fully take advantage of all the iPod features. The basic capability to shuffle, repeat, fast forward, and rewind is still there. Most people would only really need these features. I do have to say it looks pretty slick with our black iPod video.

My two complaints:

1.) The display of the stereo is much, much harder to see than the previous models. Basically, if it is at an angle (especially if it is higher than your line of sight), the screen looks blank. We have to go by the blue glowing around the iPod controller to see if it is on or just listen for some sound. While our previous one was a little annoying because the display was bright at night even when off, this is even more annoying. Of course, all the display tells you is the volume, the mode, and the time. None of which are especially important if you don't switch from one thing to another a lot.

2.) We also have a little trouble with the remote. We have put our system on top of the chest of drawers by the TV and since it is elevated, we have to hold the remote up in the air to turn the volume up. This isn't always the case, but is most of the time. Since you can't see the display too well, then it is sometimes hard to tell if you are turning the volume up or not.

Basically, if you need a countertop stereo system or a small one to put in an office, this one is awesome! If you are going to put it on an elevated surface like a chest of drawers, on a higher shelf, or up high on a bookshelf, I would keep the two complaints in mind. Of course, knowing those two, I would have still bought it. Even though I had some complaints about it, I still gave it 5 stars which I only do if I love a product (like the Mac, Dyson, iPod excluding shuffle , and the Teac Micro systems).

I set this stereo up in my son's play room so that we could have music playing throughout the day on the ipod and I love it. The sound is amazing. At 2 1/2 he can't appreciate it, but I do. I really wanted a stereo that would play an ipod as well as MP3's on a CD. I tried a couple of others and they didn't sound very good. This was a little more expensive, but over time the sound is worth it. I'm a little concerned that the CD player is a little sensitive to bumps and the remote seems to have to point directly at the sensor to work. But otherwise I haven't had any problems.

It worked great for 3 months. display would fade in and out when turning on. I should have bought an extended warrenty.

I was dissapointed with TEAC because they used to be high quality equipment. I purchased the system 3 years ago and still hope that

one day the display would work again. I bought a BOSS system since and been satisfied with sound and remote and display.

This is a great mp3 player/clock radio. It sounds good for its size and does exactly what you want it to do.

Only down side is the remote is really needed as not all the functions are on the console. Still, this does not detract much from it.

I would get another if needed.

  • Battery Back-up with Installed Lithium Battery which maintains the clock and alarm operation in the event of a blackout or any other power failure, and maintains the correct time so when the power returns you don't have to re-set the clock.

This is a great little bedside alarm radio. Reception is excellent for pulling stations and the sound quality is what one might expect from a small, inexpensive clock radio, i.e., the sound is adequate for waking one from a sound sleep. For what it has been designed to do, it is a five-star product. If you want high-quality audio, look into Logitech's Squeezebox Logitech Squeezebox Radio Music Player with Color Screen (Black); but if you're looking for a straight alarm-clock radio, this is worth $20.

Bought for backup functionality for an older relative whose power has gone out multiple times (and for 7-10 days at a time) recently. Takes odd button batteries for the clock backup; not a common battery you're likely to have on hand or easily be able to buy in anticipation of a storm. I expected the battery backup to also operate the radio (it does on two other Sony clock radios I have) but this unit does not have that feature. Is this design change something new? (The description has seems to have been tweaked so it states battery backup is for radio only). The battery backup radio is specifically what I was looking for. My relative likes the styling of the unit so she didn't want me to return it. In these days of super storms, we need multi-functioning products that will make our lives easier when there is possible danger.

Weak antenna, only worked well near a window for a week. Afterwards reception was fuzzy on all stations. No longer the SONY we used to know. This will be replaced.

The radio is compact but the display is big and bright. I do wish it had a settling to lower the brightness. The beeping alarm is subtle and slow at first but speeds up to gently awaken you. It is easy to set and I especially like that once you set your time zone, it will correct the time when I set it incorrectly. Cool!

I got this one because the other reviews were terrible. This one had the least negative reviews. I got it quickly and it works fine. What else to say about an alarm clock. It does the job well.
