Legacy LD58MT 5.5-Inch TFT Touch Screen Motorized Panel DVD/VCD/CD/MP3/CDR/USB/SD Card/AM/FM with Ra

Legacy LD58MT 5.5-Inch TFT Touch Screen Motorized Panel DVD/VCD/CD/MP3/CDR/USB/SD Card/AM/FM with Razor Soft Touch Buttons
  • 5 Position Electronic Adjustable Panel
  • 16 - 9 Wide Screen
  • Full Function OSD Touch Screen
  • High Resolution and High Definition Picture capability
  • DVD/SVCD/VCD/CD/CDR/CDR/RW Player Built-In ESP (Electronic Shock Protection)

I bought this Legacy thinking it was by far the best bang for buck. Well, it had defect after defect as soon as it was installed. First, the remote didnt work, no biggy. Then i notice quickly that the touch screen was hardly responsive and you could not touch any options near the edge of the screen. I tried out a dvd and about 15 to 20 mins later the units faceplate got hot enough to make the screen discolor...not good. The return process went very well though.

I bought and received mine a few days ago. I had it installed by a pro and have not had any problems at all. The quality is great the sound is good and I love it. I notice someone said it gets hot its not that bad I had a touch screen made by another company and it was the same way and i used it for 4 years before I crack the screen. When it comes to electronics i'm very particular and picky but this product I would give 2 thumbs up.

RCA RC117 Dual USB Charging Station Clock Radio

RCA RC117 Dual USB Charging Station Clock Radio
  • Built-in charging tray with 2 USB ports and cable management
  • Optimized outlet for iPad - 2.1 amps
  • Full clock radio functionally with backlit display
  • Dual wake, sleep and snooze functions
  • Audio line-in for MP3 player connectivity

Full clock radio functionally with backlit display; the brightness control allows for 3 settings (1) High; brighter than an advantage nightlight (2) Medium; too dull to see at night (3) Off; not helpful at all. Prefect for a bedroom that requires a nightlight; we moved it into our home office. Dual wake, sleep and snooze functions work great and are easy to set. The Built-in charging tray has 2 USB ports, an auxiliary port, and cable management; it is the perfect place to dock, store, and charge our 2 iphones or my nook touch. Two suggestions for future versions (1) plugs should come from the back as opposed to sticking out the front (2) the cable management area has only 2 winders, it should have 3 2 for the USB charging cables and 1 for the auxiliary cable.

Buy RCA RC117 Dual USB Charging Station Clock Radio Now

This is a clock radio / alarm clock that also has 2 USB ports to charge your i-whatever, or anything that you charge with a USB cable. It is not a fancy stereo system docking station that charges and plays at the same time (though you can play your device with the line-in jack).

It's not fancy, but I use it every night both as an alarm clock for me and to charge 2 devices overnight... with teenagers we have a variety of iPhones / iPads / iPods in the house, and something always needs to be charged. 2 phones or iPods fit easily on the little rest area (cables stored underneath), or 1 iPad fits. As I said, I use it nightly, so it works for me.

PROS:

+ Charges 2 devices at once

+ Cables store underneath (though storage could be better)

+ Nothing elaborate; it's easy to set the time etc with this simple old-school style

+ Also a night light (light does not bother me at all)

+ Easy to find the off button (for the alarm) when in a stupor

CONS:

The cables pop out (to charge) in an awkward way, leaving a bump

Nothing elaborate, very old school

The LED display / night light may bother some (though you can turn it off)

BOTTOM LINE:

Some of my Cons are also my Pros; whether you like this or not depends on what you are looking for. If you just want a simple clock radio that can also charge your i-devices, this works! If you want good sound, or a docking station, or something attractive, you will be disappointed.

The RCA RC117 Dual USB Charging Station Clock Radio is a squat, ugly black plastic brick with buttons and lights. The selling feature is supposed to be the ports for charging various USB devices and phones and cable management.

Let's start with the good points. If you listen at low volume, the sound is OK for clock radio, whether the source is FM or iPod. Though not really a good source for dedicated listening, this radio sounds OK for background while you are prepping food in the kitchen or sorting files in the office. The charging ports work OK, and the backlit display allows some variation from glaring brightness to off. Dual alarms and an easy-to-ready clock face are pluses (but certainly expected).

Now for some of the cons for this device. First, it is ugly; the buttons are tiny and hard to see. Larger buttons or a small LED halo around each would really prove helpful. The so-called cable management requires you to wrap up your cables around a couple of spools like you are tying a barge to a dock. (No, this radio does not come with any cables, so you will have to relocate yours or buy another set.) Once you have coiled your cables around the spools, you next have to thread them through them through an opening between the cheesy removable tray and the unit.

That tray itself is a real piece of work. It does not fit well or stay in place. It is basically a piece of heavy cardboard wrapped in some sort of nonskid fabric, and it is just plain ugly. Our radio is stationed in the kitchen, and I already imagine what any spill would do its removable surface for cable management.

Yes, it does work, and elegance is not a requirement. But for what you are getting here, a $20 asking price is about right in my opinion. USB and phone charges are not expensive, and the shortcomings and squatty toad-like looks of this device should give you pause.

Want RCA RC117 Dual USB Charging Station Clock Radio Discount?

I bought this for the 2 USB charging ports and the AUX port thinking it was a full featured modern clock radio. I should have paid more attention to all the specs before ordering. It DOES NOT receive AM radio. It also does not have a battery backup or an "atomic clock" auto set feature, making it an unreliable device as a primary alarm clock.

This alarm clock has no backup battery. So if the power goes up, expect to be late for work like me.

Clearly cheaply made. Do not recommend this item at all.

Garmin Dezl 760LMT 7-Inch Bluetooth Trucking GPS with Lifetime Maps & Traffic

Garmin Dezl 760LMT 7-Inch Bluetooth Trucking GPS with Lifetime Maps & Traffic
  • High-resolution Large 7-Inch touchscreen display - 800 x 480 pixels WVGA TFT color display with white backlight
  • Includes lifetime maps and traffic
  • Specialized truck routing supports commercial class 8 rating
  • Customizable restrictions include height, weight, width, length and hazardous materials
  • Provides caution alerts for many posted road restrictions based on truck profile even when driving without a route

I've had this gps for almost 2 months now at the start I thought it was the best thing ever but after using it for a while I found it had major shortcomings , like the weight restriction warning ,it seams to have them all wrong eg. For 30 miles on I-80E in NE it keeps telling me that the limit is between 1.5 tons and 17 tons and keeps trying to get me to take the state route instead . That was the biggest mistake so far, there have been a lot of small roads it thinks have a weight limit but do not, like our terminal in Dallas it says the road into it has a 10ton limit, the only people who use it are truck drivers !! I have to find some way to disable the weight warning till garmin get there act together and figure out its wrong , all they have to do is buy a copy of rand McNally and it tells them the overweight roads . Another thing they are missing is a lot of weigh stations and it would be nice to get an audible warning when they are coming up . Given that this is a gps mainly for truckers they could have put in an alert for a time zone change like some other truck gps systems have . I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for and given this is the most expensive truck gps out there I'm disappointed to say the least . If they bring out updates and fix the problems I will update my rating because as it stands the unit is unreliable as its routing around roads it thinks I can't use

I bought a Cobra 8000 at first. It was horrible, so I exchanged it for this Garmin 760. I am so glad I did. It feels like a quality piece of equipment when your holding it. The graphics are really good too. I am a professional truck driver and really like all the little features it has. It will notify me if there is a change in speed limit coming up or a sharp curve or even a steep downgrade. I also like how dark I can adjust it for night, or how super bright I can make it during the day. You can get audio books on it if you chose. I am excited about this thing and just wish I started out buying this one first. Garmin only makes GPS devices, so you know they put a lot of effort into making good ones.

Received my new Garmin dezl 760lmt jan 2nd and wow. Once you get past the size shock you get to turn it on. As a 465t user this is an upgrade. Operating system a little different and awkward at fits but then after a day or so it clicks and you see the car improvement in speed and ease of searches. The display and turn information is top notch. Still playing with the hos apps. The weather radar as the other options they talk about with their Android link service are subscription services. The weather radar is $4.99/year. That one I bought and it is great. Sorry I phone users, no app for you yet. Traffic is much improved over part model also. Keep up the great work Garmin

The Dezl 760 works as advertised.

There are some issues however:

1) The ecoRoute HD accessory only works when you select automobile mode. It does not work in truck or RV mode.

2) The unit is very large. It can seriously impact your forward visibility if you use it in a small car. Also it is unstable if you use a bean bag mount. I use the bean bag because I use it in more than 1 vehicle.

3) When you are connecting it to a computer be aware that there are 2 USB slots on the device. The mini-USB slot in the back is only for charging. The micro-USB slot on the bottom is for connecting to a computer.

4) When I connected it to the computer, it indicated that I needed to update the maps. It failed in the attempt. One message I got in the process indicated it didn't have enough space on the device. The map it was trying to install is the same one that came on the device, so I don't know if it will work for future releases or not. I may need to add a microSD card.

The things I like about the unit:

1) There is a dashboard that shows 4 different data items at the bottom of the screen.

2) You can also customize 3 buttons on the right side of the screen.

3) It is easier to see and use than my Nuvi 1490.

4) It has a better receiver than my Nuvi 1490. It gets a good signal in my office downstairs. The Nuvi gets nothing.

I am using this in my RV.

I run team with my wife, about 5000 miles a week. While a GPS does not replace the atlas, we sure wanted a good one. We had a little 4-wheeler tom-tom that worked extremely well. But we wanted a larger screen, larger maps, an easy-to-read screen. After many hours reading reviews online about all the top trucker GPS makes and versions we chose this one. We are amazed at how frequently this GPS is dead WRONG about truck routing. We got a trucker GPS mainly because the tom-tom did not do truck routes and it as a big gamble. Time after time this Garmin would alert us to the fact that the road we were on was not an approved truck route when indeed the roads all lead to truck stops with hundreds of trucks going in and out all day. And time after time we were on old well established state roads that are major off interstate approved truck routes only to once again have the garmin tell us we were on roads NOT approved for trucking. This happens on nearly 50% of well-known truck routes we run. This thing is a total joke! We read and re-read the instructions to make sure all was right on our use of it. We tested it on routes we normally use to see how accurate it was. On one run it re-routed us three times as we drove past the exits it wanted us to take, and all three times it was wrong! It is a shame it is not more accurate because otherwise it is a beautiful unit. The screen is large and clear, we can read it from the sleeper. The audio is loud and clear. While running down the road the large icons are easy to see and to tap. you can use this one without driving out of your lane. It is very easy to use, very easy to learn. The mounting and power setups are also very good. We use the dash mount on horribly rough roads that throw stuff out of the sleeper and this unit takes it all just fine. We downloaded all the latest updates, and even that went well. In other words this would be a wonderful GPS for Pro drivers IF the routing was far more accurate. Yet since a trucker GPS is supposed to help keep us off restricted routes and keep us on approved routes, and since the Garmin does NOT do this, not even close, I have to give it a low rating.

JBL On Stage 400P Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod (Black)

JBL On Stage 400P Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod
  • Compatible with all docking iPods .
  • Digital amplification and DSP(digital sound processing) gives you great sound.
  • Includes an RF remote with full iPod navigation.
  • Evercharge topology charges iPod even unit is switched off.
  • Works with iPhone.

I read up about several iPod speaker docks before I decided on this one. The gizmodo ipod dock face-off helped a lot in my decision (http://i.gizmodo.com/5211025/ipod-dock-8+way-battlemodo). They tested several well known brand docks against each other including JBL, Sony, Bose, Altec Lansing, Klipsch, and Logitech. This JBL dock came out on top even over the Bose and after listening to it for a while now I can see why.

Crystal clear sound, deep clear bass, crisp mids and highs. What especially surprised me was the bass. I wasn't aware that such deep bass could be produced from a small ipod dock. I was able to listen to the Bose dock at Best Buy. Being in a huge store probably didn't help the bass but there was virtually no difference in sound between the two, and the JBL is less then half the price.

I personally like the design of the JBL over the Bose. A sexy silver and black oval shaped speaker with my iphone sitting on top. The speaker is shielded so there is no interference whatsoever from my iphone. And my iphone sits sturdy on the top with the correct adapter. The remote is also very useful as you can change volume, skip, pause, and navigate menus with it.

For me this is without a doubt the best ipod speaker dock on the market.

I've been researching over a year for the perfect dock. Yeah it may sound crazy but im very fussy about the quality i want. So in the end, very difficult to find a perfect product, but JBL 400p is what comes closest. Here's why :

My requirements :

1. Crystal clear sound with clear bass.

2. Should be reasonably loud without distorting any elements and not only for laptop use

3. Shouldn't be crazy expensive

4. Should be portable (BTW i don't see portablility merely as a function of temporary power).

5. Should plug into alternate sources.

6. Didn't care about AM/FM.

Now with the above in mind, i zeroed in finally on Bose, Altec and Sony and did some serious research, to the point of going nuts and finally saw JBL winning. I will skip commenting on Sony cuz its not worth it.

Bose Sound dock: There is no doubt that this one produces the best and loudest sound out there, notwithstanding the gap between best and next is rather slim :) . I almost decided to buy this and then saw in the demo how it "completely" distorts the balance of sound at high volumes, especially the bass. So the value of loud music gets negated. Additionally, ive heard they are custom tuned to the songs that they play best at demos and hence made to sound awesome. And finally the price at 300/400 made it look ITS JUST NOT WORTH IT.

Altec Lansing imT620 and T612 : I think this product is overhyped. Its like one of those chinese products that try to give you as much as they can for as less money as possible. And this makes it the best choice for an economical product. I didn't find the sound clarity impressive at all. But just cuz i was fed up looking, i wanted to close the deal with this and be done.

JBL : While i almost got Altec, one friend of mine suggested JBL and i took a look at 200id. Didn't like as much and then just chanced upon 400p which i somehow left out of comparison totally, possibly because this wasn't rolled out then. This product clearly comes the "closest" to what Bose sounds like and for abt 200 bucks (on a deal) made great economical sense. I am amazed at how it retains the sound clarity even at high volumes, have never seen it distorting any elements. This is the only product that is impressive from the JBL camp for ipod and some serious competition. I have had it for abt 2 months now and completely satisfied. The only small issue is its not as loud as i wanted it to be, which is why the 4 stars and not 5.

Now i'm not suggesting this as a winner based out of only 1 or 2 factors. I had a clear set of requirements and this met all of them very closely. So i won't suggest you take my review at face value, rather go check it out yourself, cuz you may have a different criteria. But for sure keep this one in your comparison.

I'm very critical of sound quality and I was looking for an iPod dock to take to Mexico with me on vacation. I looked and listened to everything available at brick & mortar stores.

The Bose was too expensive. I knew that. Long story short...The JBL On Stage 400P was a gamble-it lacked some bells and whistles that other docks had but I kept coming back to sound quality, which mattered most to me. I also hesitated with this purchase because it was available at WALMART of all places.

Finally! a purchase that really and truly made me happy. It was on 24/7 in Mexico. I had none of the issues other people had. It's not cheap/inexpensive but it was a great investment for me.

JBL has made a very nice sounding device that, unfortunately, does not work out of the box with the 2nd gen iPod Touch. Even though this speaker dock was released in spring 2009 and the 2G iPod Touch was released in Fall 2008. Regardless that the product info says it works with "all docking iPods and the iPhone". The included iPod Touch 2G adapter does not allow the iPod to fit down snug enough to fully connect with the 400P so it is unable to play or charge. There is a bump noise from the speaker which may indicate it is close to connecting by cannot quite make it. I tried it several times but it was no go. I then took out the included adapted and attached the iPod without an adapter at all and it worked. I checked several times to see if I was using the wrong adapter but I was using the correct one.

My first inclination was to send it back, however it does sound nice so I really want to keep it. The problem is the connector may be in danger of breaking off if you don't use the adapter and not using the adapter probably voids the warranty.

But regardless, I used a couple small self adhesive rubber pads I had lying around to secure the iPod a little better than just not using anything at all (it seems all the adapters do is snuggle a bit with the iPod to prevent damage to the connector). While I myself will be careful with this solution I am afraid anyone else grabbing it or attaching/detaching it may break the connector off (especially the kids). If it broke inside the iPod it could be bad news for my expensive 32GB iPod.

I might still have given it 4 stars as it does sound good but the remote only operates the built in iPod music player but I use mostly Pandora for music listening so the other functions aside from volume do not function in Pandora or any other audio app.

Of course this, like all Apple related accessories, is way overpriced for what you get.

Maybe JBL will put out a new adapter that would actually work with the iPod 2G but I won't hold my breath.

I have over 30 years experience as a audio professional. I always seek out the best of the best and the JBL ONSTAGE 400P is the finest IPod/IPhone Dock product ever. The sound quality out performs Bose and any others. The high notes and low notes are clear and do not distort at full volume. The speaker shape sends the sound wave out in a stereo surround effect that fills the room. I want one now in every room. This product is absolutely awesome. I use it with my IPhone 3GS. I am buying more for Christmas gifts.

I got this product as a gift for Christmas '06. I listen to it everyday (literally) and it still works beautifully! The sound quality is superb, and the preset equalizer settings work very nicely with my diverse music taste. I love the fact that it came with a remote control. It's very handy at night when I am done listening to the radio. Instead of getting out of my bed after I've almost fallen asleep, I just reach up behind my bed and turn the stereo off with the remote. Also another handy feature is the on/off timer. I can set it to wake me up, and set to turn off a few hours later so that I won't leave it on all day, but I can still listen to music until I am out of the house. The automatic door fascinates my friends, and it is very quiet.

Two minor complaints:

I haven't been able to find the right auxiliary cord yet to try the aux feature, and I wish that the instruction booklet would tell you what kind of cord you need. One other complaint is that the screen is rather bright, not very convenient if you like to use your stereo at night, like me. However, it is very easy to place a cloth over the LCD display if you are that intent on having your bedroom dark. Personally, if I didn't have a street light shining in my window already, I would use the stereo as a night light.

Other than those minor details, I would say that this is a wonderful stereo. Considering the low cost, what more could you ask for?

Logitech 2.4 GHz Cordless Presenter (Black)

Logitech 2.4 GHz Cordless Presenter
  • Launches slide show and allows escape.
  • Has volume control and integrated laser.
  • Works with any PC, no software required.
  • 50 foot range.
  • Long battery life
  • 50 foot range
  • Has volume control and integrated laser

  • Works with any PC, no software required

I have been using the Logitech Cordless 2.4 GHz Presenter for about three weeks. During that time I have used it in 18 one hour lectures. The presenter does everything it was designed to do effortlessly. I decided on the Logitech Presenter for a two reasons. First, it installs with no software. Just plug the USB radio transmitter/receiver into the back of your computer and it is ready to go. During my initial installation Windows XP said there was a problem, but everything operated just fine. Second, this presenter has a limited number of functions. It was my view that when giving a lecture the last thing you need is to have to hunt among a dozen or so buttons to do something. Also, more buttons increases the likelihood of hitting the wrong one. On the top the Logitech Presenter has 5 buttons: 1) forward, 2) back, 3) laser pointer which is between the forward and back, 4) F5/ESC which starts PowerPoint at the first slide or returns to the work view and 5) black the screen. All of the buttons are conveniently placed, work as promised and are easy to find without looking at them. On the left side is the on/off switch and volume control and on the right side is the button to set the countdown timer. The timer starts vibrating at set intervals 5 minutes before it reaches 0. It appears to use batteries sparingly. After about 18 hours of use the battery meter has yet to move.

There are two possible negatives to the Logitech Cordless 2.4 GHz Presenter. First, it has no mouse (I actually consider this a positive). So if you need to use a mouse in your presentations this is not the presenter to get. Second, it only appears to work with PowerPoint. It may work with other programs, but I have found no mention of it.

Based on the above review and the fact that the machine does exactly what it was designed to do, I give the presenter 5 stars. However, before purchasing one you need to decide if you really need its capabilities. If you regularly teach/make presentations in a large room it no doubt is handy. As Logitech advertises, the range is at least 50 feet. If you always present in a small room, the Logitech Cordless 2.4 GHz Presenter is really of little advantage. Nevertheless, it is cool to be able to change slides away from the projector. Perhaps the determining factor should be who is making the purchase. If your employer is springing for one, get it. If it is coming out of your pocket, consider carefully.

Buy Logitech 2.4 GHz Cordless Presenter (Black) Now

I purchased this about two weeks ago, and have already used it several times. I'm just wrapping up my graduate education, and wish I knew about this sooner. If you present in teams, and usually have someone controlling the slides, you know how its difficult to sync your presentation with the other person. The Logitech Presenter puts the control into your hands. This also allows you to step away from the computer, and focus on the actual presentation than changing the slides.

This unit does the following:

start presentation/exit presentation

black out the screen (good for when you want to have people focus their attention on you instead of the slides)

forward/back, to navigate through slides

volume control

laser pointer

time limit notification (warnings at 5 mins and 2 mins)

Also comes with a compact fabric case.

Contrary to what a previous reviewer stated, this receiver is NOT a USB bluetooth receiver. It is only USB, and transmits at a 2.4 GHz frequency.

As some others have stated, this is NOT a mouse. The more expensive Logitech Presenter (that costs over $150) can double as a mouse.

I have only utilized the Presenter with PowerPoint. I do not know if it is compatible with other presentation software.

Pros:

The buttons are well positioned making it very easy to learn.

very light, fits comfortably in hand

the usb receiver is compact, and can be stored within the Presenter. I like the fact that it is so compact because on certain laptops, the USB slots are stacked on top of one another. With some other over-sized USB cords/receivers, it can cause trouble connecting both simultaneously. The compactness of the receiver is perfect!

the laser pointer can double as a toy to play with a cat. my cat chases the red laserbeam all around the room. who knew the Presenter could be so much fun? :)

Cons:

time limit notifications can only be increased in 5 minute increments.

the USB receiver can easily be put into the Presenter in the wrong way, making it somewhat difficult to take out.

did not work on a couple older laptops. They were both running WinXP. However, these could be isolated incidents.

Took at least 30 seconds on new systems for the Presenter to be recognized and set up.

No resume feature

The fabric case should have come with a belt clip

I took the Logitech Presenter to class, and fellow classmates loved it so much they all wanted to use it. They were able to learn it on the fly. This unit is money well spent!

I've owned 3 other remote clickers, and this one is the best by far. For starters, it uses AAA batteries which are easy to procure and replace, whereas other models use those little quarter-size batteries that require a special trip to Radio Shack to buy. Plus, AAA's hold more juice to begin with, AND this clicker has an on/off switch, whereas others turn off on their own after time without use, meaning after they drain the battery! The transmitter on this clicker has plenty of power to reach the back of the computer/USB receiver stub from long distances, whereas others require the presenter to be close to the computer because they transmit a weak signal. The form factor of this one is perfect in your hand and the buttons are easily used, even by people unfamilar with it -it's very intuitive. It has a very useful timer/clock that allows me to watch how much time I have left to finish my presentation -it will also vibrate in my hand with 5 minutes to go, 2 minutes to go, and when my time is up. It allows me to add more time on the fly. This remote clicker is absolutely perfect in every way, and I can't tell you how many colleagues have purchased one after they tried mine. Don't waste your money on anything else -they really got it right in all the human factors/UI aspects and all the engineering aspects when they made this.

My husband "bought me" the other Logitech cordless presenter (which costs about 3x as much as this one) a year or so ago because, as a high school teacher, I often use PowerPoint to teach new lessons and to show photos of unfamiliar events or references in literature. The truth is, I took the thing to school once before he hijacked it for his own laptop/flat screen combination and used it as a glorified cordless mouse, with laser pointer.

Honestly, this little thing is a lot more convenient than the other one for use in a classroom, and the reduced cost makes me less concerned about it "getting jacked" by one of my well-meaning but sometimes-misdirected students. It doesn't have the cordless mouse functionality, so I can't switch between programs. It's pretty much only functional for use with PowerPoint, but that's fine for me. I can now move around my classroom freely, switching back and forth between slides and pointing out specific things on the screen without having to be right next to my computer. It helps to be able to spot-check my students' progress and walk the room, and students everywhere are just more attentive when they see presenters who can actually move more than in just a 5-inch radius. I also love being able to "black screen" the TV at certain points (to answer questions, to address side issues, at the end of the presentation) without having to interrupt my presentation/presence in front of the class.

I especially like the little case and the USB storage in the unit when it's not in use -I tend to lose things. I also like the size and feel of this presenter over the other one, which was too bulky for me. The 50-foot range is GINORMOUS, and not having to have "line of sight" to my actual computer is a lifesaver. I don't use the timer/vibrate feature at all, and the on/off switch is really easy to get to -not like the one on my cell phone that requires a lot of fumbling and fighting to get it to depress.

I bought this recently and it was easy to use. Most people have written on the positive side of things so I will just add some shortcomings. It can only be used for power point presentations. It would be better to use Keyspan or something like that which includes power point presentation and a mouse as well. Secondly, this does not have an auto time out. I tried it the night before but forgot to switch it off (there is no LCD light anywhere so one does not realize it is switched on), and the next day when I tried to use it at a presentation it was out of power! Other than that it is a really cool device and easy to use.

SOLEIL SUN Alarm Ultima Clock Radio Dawn Simulator

SOLEIL SUN Alarm Ultima Clock Radio Dawn Simulator
  • Alarm feature for waking or timing is accompanied with a snooze button
  • The Sun Alarm is equipped with a fully-functional AM/FM radio
  • Easy-to-read digital clock display can be dimmed or used at full brightness
  • Sunrise and Sunset feature

After I managed to break the globe on my beloved Biobrite Sunrise Alarm Clark and was unable to find a replacement, I settled for the Soleil out of desperation and against my better judgment. It looked way too small to wake even a mite and, boy, was I right! "Compact" does not even begin to describe the Soleil's diminutive dimensions. Now, to be fair, if you happen to be a light sleeper in a small space, and you're facing the clock with the bulb aimed squarely at your eyelids, and you happen to respond to its rather anemic glow, then maybe, just maybe, it will wake you up. But if not, you better use the beeper function or late to work you're gonna be. Better yet, buy a REAL sunrise alarm clock and not this overpriced toy.

While the features and adjustability of this tiny alarm clock sound enticing, I am regretting my purchase.

The light is not very bright. The radio on it is cheap. I can only faintly pick up my favorite station to wake up to, and since I like to wake up very gradually, and listen to the radio during my morning routine, the fact that this unit shuts off after an hour is not convenient. The sound quality on the radio is also very harsh and tinny not desirable first thing in the morning.

I would probably return it if the seller weren't going to charge me a 30% restocking fee.

My wife and I live in the midwest; in the winter the sun doesn't come up until well after 8:00AM. We have a tough time getting up, and thought a dawn simulator might do the trick. Long story short, this one did not. In fairness, I had to give this model 2 stars--but only from an ease-of-use standpoint. It is very easy to master, technically speaking. But in terms of functionality, this thing is a stinker. The "dawn simulator" only emits 96 lumens of light (less than a quarter of what is produced by a forty watt lightbulb). My wife and I weren't "gently awakened" by such a paltry little light (just roll away from it, and it's effectively not even there), so we awoke to the jarring sound of the buzzer every morning. The light is so weak, in fact, that it wasn't even enough to keep us awake! In addition, the digital clock display was so bright that I had to fall asleep facing away from it--it actually cast shadows on the wall! What a shame that the extra intensity couldn't have gone into the main light...

For those with SAD (or who just can't seem to wake up on winter days), I would strongly advise you to purchase a different product. This one just doesn't do the trick.

This alarm clock is wonderful. My wife hates waking up to my phone vibrating on my night stand, so she thought she'd like a more natural approach, such as a sunrise. I personally didn't think it would be that great, but, it is.

It starts with red light, slowly fading in to bright white light. What would seem merely for aesthetics, maybe underestimated. Red light is much softer on the eyes than white, so a logical gradient between the two would produce a gentle awakening. Plus, waking up due to a light source naturally stimulates the brain (and in turn, the pineal gland) to reduce the amount of melatonin present in the brain. This all translates into a more natural, gentle awakening.

Pros: Gentle awakening

Adjustable sunrise length

Radio built in

Really bright bulb

Cons: My wife turns the radio to country.

Overall, this is a great unit at a great price, given the fact that it wakes up naturally and without the racing heart. If you're a "snoozer" like me and are always setting it half an hour ahead of when you really need up, just simply lengthen the sunrise time.

I bought this alarm clock today (April 7, 2007) at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $10. I wish I had seen the reviews first. I bought it because of the product name, small size and variety of options. Unfortunately, I realized it wasn't a great buy when I brought it home...and spent a few hours trying to keep the battery in a certain position so the clock would stay on. The connections appear to be very sensitive and the battery doesn't stay in place.

The clock light is pointless. It's supposed to help you see the time in the dark, but unless you have the clock at a certain angle everything will appear blurry. Actually, the screen is blurry in most positions even with the light off.

As for the alarm, it's pretty quiet. If you're a sound sleeper or live in a noisy environment, this is not the clock for you. You'll only hear the alarm if you sleep with it under your ear.

A final note on this product: The clock has been on for almost an hour without any problems...but only with the battery cover slightly open. If I close the cover all the way, the clock shuts off. If you want an alarm clock that will last awhile, I suggest buying something else. You get less than you pay for with this model.

I bought this clock at WalMart at the end of last year (2005). It was the cheapest travel clock with the features that I wanted. It has worked well as a daily alarm clock until about a month ago when the alarm stopped beeping. I have replaced the battery and the alarm still doesn't beep, but the display light flashes as normal. I got about 8 months out of this clock, so I guess that's not bad. But I wouldn't buy it again.

I bought this travel alarm at Target. It was shoddy from the outset, but for $10 I managed to use it despite the dim display and tinny alarm for one trip. Then I realized the battery only lasts a few weeks. I would have spent more on batteries than the clock itself in the first year. It also began to literally pull apart at the seams. I mailed the clock to Sharp's corporate headquarters in NJ with my complaint and received a letter back saying it wasn't one of their products even though it clearly says "Sharp" right on the front. So either they are lying and producing terrible products or they are not protecting their trademark and allowing other companies to manufacture shoddy products and market them with the Sharp name. Either way I could never buy a product with the Sharp name on it again.... how could I ever be sure if it would be backed up by Sharp or not.

Want SharpTech SPC303 LCD Travel Alarm Clock with Folding Metal Case (Champagne) Discount?

I bought this clock at Target and I really like it. I use it as my everyday alarm clock so it's gone through more use than a travel alarm would, although I travel with it as well. The clock looks nice, folds very compactly.

Reading the other 2 bad reviews, I had to say how much I love this clock. I especially like the temperature feature. I've used this clock for months and the batteries are still going strong. I really appreciate the alarm time being displayed all the time. I don't have to wonder if I readjusted my wake up time for the next day as everyday I need to wake up at a different time.

I gave this clock 3 stars because the back light blew out this week. I don't see a way to replace it. I've searched for small alarm clocks that I like and haven't found anything better. So I'm going to give this clock another try. The price is low enough to justify giving it another go.

I had this clock for about a year and it just died. At first I thought it just needed a new battery, but even a new battery couldn't revive the unreliable, non-ergonomic, but quite cheap (in both senses of the word) travel alarm. Pros: Tiny, folds up, travels well. Cons: With the way the settings are designed, I often set the alarm, but didn't put the other lever on "lock" which prevented the alarm from going off. Of course, I wouldn't realize this error until I'd slept in (more than once). Don't buy this poorly designed and short-lived alarm clock.

Uniden 300-Channel Clock Radio Scanner

Uniden 300-Channel Clock Radio Scanner
  • Store and scan up to 300 channels:police, fire/emergency, marine, air, amateur, and other radio services
  • NOAA weather broadcasts and all-hazard alerts provide valuable information specific to your location
  • Listen to TV stations (channels 2-13) and AM/FM Radio, with 30 presets for instant access
  • Alarm clock with snooze function and standard alarm features
  • Scanner runs on AC power or two AA batteries, for portable use

This was on my wish list and my wife indulged me for my birthday! Thanks!

When I started working as a young teenager, the second thing I bought with my money was a Bearcat 6 channel handheld scanner. That was more than 30 years ago and times sure have changed.

Let us talk about the non scanner features first. The atomic clock works solid and had no trouble getting signal. The alarm clock also works as expected. The snooze button could stand out a little more since there are a lot of buttons of similar size and location. (I said similar and not exact!)

The FM and TV reception work fine and I can pick up stations 40 to 50 miles away without static. The AM reception is adequate and works about as good as AM radio can.

The radio also has a very important feature of weather alerts from NOAA. You can program it to only alert you on weather events in your area (county). This is an important safety feature I cannot suggest more.

To be honest, I didn't need an atomic alarm clock or an FM radio as I already had those needs met. I also have a nice collection of scanners but I had a specific need (want) and this scanner fit the bill almost.

I will digress for a second and mention that many metropolitan areas no longer use conventional radios for public safety agencies. Conventional means each agency has a dedicated radio frequency and many times departments inside of each agency have their own dedicated frequency. It doesn't take long to realize that a lot of frequencies are needed.

To combat this, many public safety agencies (and sometimes large businesses) will use a trunked radio system. To monitor trunked radio systems, you need a scanner capable of receiving (following) the system. Some trunked systems are now digital which require an even more specialized scanner.

The Uniden BCT15 or Uniden BCD996T will work for trunked or digital trunked systems. I strongly suggest you research what systems and frequencies are used in your area before you buy any scanner.

Getting back to the scanner review...

This scanner monitors conventional frequencies only. I bought this scanner to specifically monitor one frequency the local school system. This system allows me to monitor early morning traffic from the school which allows me to be alerted of any problems or concerns including weather delays or closings.

But I also use it to monitor more items such as those little FRS radios everyone seems to have and the traffic from the local Air Force base. I won't bore you will everything but programming is very easy to do and the manual is very clear on all operations of the radio. (You can preview the manual at Uniden's website.)

The reception is very good and when I listen to some air bands for commercial and military, it has several hundred miles of range with the supplied antenna.

The search feature is functional and the preprogrammed search banks make it easy for new users to find frequencies. You can create your own custom search banks too.

The operation to scan or hold on one frequency is simple to learn and use.

I gave the scanner only 4 stars for 2 reasons. One is the really poor BNC connector on the antenna. It is a major complaint that extends to most Uniden base station scanners. You need to be careful attaching it or you can damage the antenna or even the radio.

The second reason is more of a personal nit pick of my own. I picked up the scanner to monitor the conventional frequency of the local public school. My bedroom is located on the second floor so I have some height inside the house on the radio.

An ambulance service a couple of counties over also uses the same frequency as the school. The local school has a PL tone which I can program into other scanners in my collection but not this one. So I wished the scanner accepted PL tones. Again, this is just a small nit pick which won't be a problem for most others.

I do recommend this radio or any Uniden radio in general. I own 3 current models and have had many in the past. Enjoy and happy scanning!

One night my husband and I were out on the porch discussing various things from our youth. Somehow the subject of police scanners came up. We needed a new clock radio with alarm and since we live on an island in NE in a flood zone I joked that what we needed was a police/fire/emergency scanner with built in radio, weather band that could be taken on the run.

Not being well versed on today's scanners (I am of the era of Smokey and the Bandit) was very surprised and delighted to find they do make such an item. It does an awful lot for a small sized unit. And being an electronic brand name snob I felt I could take the chance on getting a well made unit from bearcat/uniden.

Well we set it all up and programmed it BUT found lots of discrepancies on the web as far as what the correct frequency numbers are for police/fire in our area. So we let it do its thing where it scanned and picked up local frequencies and some from far away as well.

It was the weekend so we could not call the toll free number provided with the directions (directions? We don't need no stinkin' directions!) which will tell you the freqency numbers of services in your area.

Rather than that, however, my husband opted to bring it to a local man who for a small fee entered the areas/services we were looking for. i imagine the true scanner enthusiast would of called or had those numbers already. Just be careful of info found on the web.

The weather alert/band features are interesting and handy to have, too. We have lived through various hurricanes/blizzards and it is nice to have something informative that runs on batteries as well as standard electric.

We found we liked it so much we put it on the kitchen counter and as such left unmet our original need for a bedside clock radio alarm. So I still need to buy one of those for the bedroom!

It also picks up some TV stations. Again, in a power outage handy to have. Oh yes you will cry if the power goes out too long but suck it up like we do. On New Years eve we lost power on our island and had to LISTEN to the ball fall during the Dick Clark Rockin New Years Eve show. To all life some rain must fall.

So far the most interesting thing we heard on the police scanner was concerning a man who somehow super-glued himself to a urinal wall. Never saw anything about it in the paper, either.

This is one of the best scanners I have ever purchased. Great quality and awesome reception. I purchased two of these. One for my residence and one for the Firehouse, and no one has anything bad to say. I would recommend this product to anyone.

The Uniden 300 does what it claims and does it well. I can receive

police, fire, marine, ham radio, am, fm, tv, weather and even pick

up local cordless phone conversations. The controls are easy to use

and the unit is fairly easy to set up. I wish it came with a beefier

antenna but I'm able to get nearly 300 miles of reception of ham radio

so its not bad straight out of the box. The frequency scanner works

efficiently and smoothly zeros in on any live broadcasting in whatever

band you are in. The emergency notification is awesome, never thought

I would need it in San Diego, but sure enough it popped up one evening

when a storm cell blew into the area causing flooding. Nice! The

radio controlled clock feature automatically re-set itself when day-

light savings time came around too. As a bed side companion it does

the job and more! My only complaint, which is very minor, is the clock/

frequency display is at an angle not convienient for viewing without

lifting my head from my pillow. Reckon if that's the only negative

then I'm 99.5% satisfied with my purchase. Kudos to Uniden & Amazon

for hooking me up with the Uniden 300.

My husband and I live in the southern U.S., which is starting to get tornadoes on the scale of what you might expect in Oklahoma and Kansas (we don't get the big F-4s and F-5s, but in one recent year our state had 36 funnel clouds in the month of April alone). In the springtime it can seem like you get a tornado watch or warning every other day. Since all the houses around here are built on limestone and we don't have a basement, it's prudent to pay attention to the weather so you can start getting your gear together to build up a bunker in your bathroom or inner hallway if it's looking like your house may get hit by the big one.

We bought one of these radios three years ago b/c we live right on the edge between two big counties, and it seemed a good idea to be able to receive weather warnings from both of them. We liked the radio so much we came back right away and bought another one....Then a third one after one of the first two suffered an acid leak from one of the AA batteries we put in it and quit working without A/C power. We get A LOT of power outages, so we needed to get another battery-op radio, now I'm back here buying another one to give my mom....

Things I like about this radio:

* It is LOUD. When the siren goes off, you can hear it on the other end of the house, and the volume telling you what's going on is loud too. You don't want to have to be fooling around with the volume switch if the message is 'TORNADO WARNING FOR YOUR AREA, GET IN THE CLOSET NOW.'

* You can modify the alerts. I set the weekly alarm not to sound the siren, and we really don't need to get waked up at 3 AM to be told there's a "thunderstorm watch". I keep the radio in the kitchen set to go off for all the alerts, but the one that will wake us up only sounds an alarm for a tornado warning.

* It gets a good, strong signal. We're pretty far from the NOAA station but you can hear that thing broad as day and with no fiddling around trying to tune in the station.

* The sound on it is pretty good. I listen to plain old FM radio on the Reecom I keep in the kitchen and it's got a pretty good tone on it.

* It's sturdy. Unfortunately my Reecom has hit the concrete floor a couple of times thanks to my cats knocking it off the counter. It's still going strong.

* It's pretty easy to operate. There's a big "RADIO" button and a "STOP," so you don't keep restoring to defaults or erasing your weather radio settings by accident.

The price on these is lower than it once was and I've had good luck getting my radios shipped from Reecom right away. I'm just glad they make a really robust radio for those of us who live in real danger from tornadoes, at least you know what's going on while you're cowering in the closet with your lights out. I also had tried the Midland and not been very happy with it I'll be back buying another Reecom if one of these goes out on me.

EDIT: I ordered two of these radios recently and had a problem with the order not only did Reecom call me before it even arrived to give me a heads up, they priority-mailed a new radio to me after I got the wrong order. Two thumbs up for their customer service, which is outstanding.

I originally bought the Midland WR300 Weather Radio, and was so disappointed in its performance, that I went and read more of the 500+ reviews on that product. Based upon a few of the reviews, I ended up purchasing this item from Reecom, and returning the Midland.

Much better backlight (green vs the Midland's blue), and the biggest and most important difference is its simple setup and programming compared to the Midland.

Don't be fooled by the Midland's high ratings.

The Reecom costs a little more, but well worth the money.

This is a very good weather radio with S.A.M.E. It's not perfect, but as close as any will come. Programming is cumbersome, performance is excellent. My wife and I sleep on a different level of our home than our children and I trust my family's life with this product. I have tried many and wouldn't use any other product on the market right now. Would get five stars if programming were a little more user-friendly.

Great radio packed with features.

This is my second purchase. The first one was given as a gift to my father.

The only item I do not like about the radio is the digital volume control. I like to set the music soft when going to bed and it seems the adjustment is too soft or too loud, unable to fine adjust.

Don't lose the owner's manual. You will not be able to program the radio without it. I suggest putting the manual in a zip top bag and taping it to the bottom of the radio.

5-30-2008. I have purchased four of these units for my family and recommended it to many friends. I did extensive research on current products and the Reecom unit is by far the best inexpensive radio (under $100) of its type on the market. If you want great service, reliable performance and the comfort of knowing that you will recieve available weather alerts during emergencies, then this unit is the one you want. I have no complaints after two years of service. My wife relies on it. It is so flexible that you can turn off alerts you do not want and it has a lot of useful features.

10-7-2012. I'm still very pleased with the Reecom R-1650 Weather Alert All Hazard Alert Radio with S.A.M.E and AM/FM Clock Radio after 4.5 years and am buying more as gifts. The warranty is only for one year, but my experience has been flawless for these 4.5 years, so I have NO complaints. There still isn't another radio that performs like this one at this price (which is lower than it used to be).

Despite the advertising hype from all kinds of battery producers, my own informal testing of various battery brands that I have used in a wide array of electronic devices leave me convinced that Eveready Energizers are the best and longest lasting alkaline batteries on the market. They are, however, some of the most expensive, and it is difficult to find them at a reasonable price most of the time. This particular offer, where you get 20 batteries for a little over ten dollars, is about the best I've seen in a long time. So, if you need some AAA alkaline batteries, this is a fairly good deal. A nice touch is that the batteries are in a small, plastic holder after you open the paper packaging, which keeps them in order while you are waiting to use them. Highly recommended.
