Best things about this alarm clock:

The light on the screen has brightness settings that I can turn way up or all the way black, this is great for sleeping and waking up to practically use it as a night light. There are two alarm settings and they are easy to set. The buttons on the top and front are minimal and not complicated to find or use. The speakers on this were a surprise.... music comes through loud and clear, not tons of bass obviously but loud and clear. And for a little wire antenna that just hangs down, I get in all my local radio stations perfectly.

Also, probably the most important feature is that it has a battery in it so, when the power goes out, it stays on. The controller is responsive from weird angles, which I have to say, I've had other Pyle equipment where the controller wasn't very good so, I was happy about this one was worked.

The lighting settings, the speakers, easy alarm settings and the battery feature are the best things about this alarm clock. It looks great and is a very well thought out size for a night stand. Two thumbs up from me.

This is a much better alternative to most of the iPod clock radios I've tried in the past. The sound quality is excellent. I haven't had any problems with static when playing my iPod Touch...which was common with other brands. The controls are a little complicated and take some time getting used to. The one big discrepancy I want to point out is that this model does not have a color changing display. There are multiple settings for changing the brightness, but you cannot select different LCD colors. The display is a black background and white digits/symbols.

After researching other radio alarm clocks that also supported iPOD docking, found the PICL58 on Amazon. Placed order for the unit as a Christmas present. My daughter was absolutely thrilled with the radio alarm clock. The size is perfect for placing on her night stand, and produces good quality sound and volume. The remote control is nice addition, and convient for controlling the radio tuning and control the volumme from across the room.

I'm always looking for cool gadgets, and this one fit the bill. There are so many of these systems to choose from, and i really liked the looks of this one, plus it was small enough to fit on my night stand. I am very please with it. The clock is easy to read when you just opened your eyes and they are kind of blurry. The sound is good and it is very easy to use.

This alarm clock is just awesome. Love the ipod dock, never seen an alarm clock that had this, so I had to try it, and I'm glad I did, perfect! Love the gradual wake up, and blackout option with lighting, can't sleep with any light in the room. Hopefully, this will be the last alarm clock I ever buy, I love it!

Tocky Rolling Alarm Clock

Tocky Runaway Alarm Clock with MP3 - WhiteI was very excited when I received this in the mail a cute alarm clock that would roll away! It sounded awesome. It took a long time to set up (controls are confusing) but I finally got it ready and then found that the Tocky wouldn't roll at all, which is why I got it. I returned it and got another. It rolled (mainly in circles; it never went far) but after just a few weeks the audio stopped working. I put in new batteries and the audio worked again, but it stopped working a few days after that and I couldn't get it to work again. The times it stopped working seemed to be directly after rolling off its shelf and landing on the floor. It wasn't even a foot and a half in the air the instructions say it can withstand up to a three foot fall.

Basically, seems to break very easily. Even when working the rolling feature isn't worth it. Complicated to set up and annoying to replace batteries (you have to pull the skin off to do it and then carefully put it back on).

Do not recommend.

I used a groupon to purchase this product, on the Nanda website and got it for only $40. I overpaid. They have an awesome concept that is ruined by very poor follow through, and bad design. The actual run-away feature is brilliant, and works very well. And the built-in default sound is very adorable, lots of fun chirps and differing sounds that made me smile. But that is where the smiles stopped.

I have had to replace the batteries twice already, in about two months. The batteries are very hard to get to, as you have to remove the skin (which is murder to get back on correctly) and then find a screwdriver, because you'll need one to get the battery cover off.

The music amount that they say you can load onto it is misleading, because you can *load* hours of music but only 9 slots are available on the interface, so you can only play 9 songs the other songs cannot be accessed.

The interface is glitchy & difficult one push button (which can be very difficult to push) that scrolls thru every single option (there are 8 in all, requiring 10 button pushes). Every time I just want to change the song # or change the alarm time, I have to go thru every...single...option. It gets very tedious. The touch wheel will be under-responsive, then it suddenly jumps ahead 10+ numbers with no warning, even after I take my finger off the touch sensor.

The system gives you one snooze only, and you can choose how many minutes it will snooze, from 1-9 minutes. Why anyone would snooze for 1 minute is beyond me. After that, there is no snooze, only off (which requires that you catch it first, that is the fun part). This is not too bad, but I would prefer to have the option of having two snoozes.

The worst of all is that once the alarm has run away, it times out and turns itself off after about 10 min, which really defeats the purpose of having a clock that runs away. A couple of times I have almost gone back to sleep after it turned off! They don't seem to realize, it takes some people longer to wake up, and those are probably the people would be buying this clock!

They have a great start, but they made some very poor choices in the design and interface. And this is the second generation of this very expensive alarm clock. I expected a much better product.

I was given a tocky as a gift, and initially was very excited since I had been eyeing it for weeks. However, I was quickly disappointed in the $70 alarm clock.

We programmed the MP3's in and were all set to go when...it just started working only intermittently. The touch screen is incredibly sporadic and difficult to use, and after a day or so, the tocky didn't stand on it's own 3 silicone feet. It just...fell over. So basically, it was an adorable, un-programmable, really expensive white silicone globe. Even when we occasionally get it to work, it is INSANELY hard to turn off, even when the skin is placed correctly (which is rarely, cause, you know, it rolls around...sort of.)

I tried contacting customer service at NANDA home, and since I didn't have a receipt, they would not exchange it. THEY ARE THE ONLY MANUFACTURER. The product could not have originated anywhere else, and they refused to exchange a clearly defective product. I wasn't really that pleased with the patronizing tone taken, either-I know how to work a touch screen, and I know how to read the product description. I don't need tutorials, I need a well-made product.

Save your money. If it worked, it would be adorable.

very cute, loud enough, works well, only problem is the sinlge button used to control the entire alarm is pushed by a piece of silicon on the cover, and our doesn't' fit right...so we have to use a small object like a bobby pin or pencil tip to turn the alarm on/off

OK, I did too much research on these devices ... so I am here to share :

I will break down Pros / Cons / General Advice / Why Creative over an IPOD.

OK ... giving this 5 stars, not because it is perfect ... only because *all things being equal*** it is best in its class.

Pros

SMART drag / drop (which is HUGE if you were an 'old time original napster dude, where you downloaded everyone song you ever wanted, and still have the collection). SMART means this ... if you drag / drop music, pictures and video in one folder, it will ask you if you want Creative to put the files into the appropriate folders. And it does this well. Nice feature, if you have digital pics, and digital movie footage (from the same camera, in the same folder) ... you don't have to do the sorting yourself ... as it handles it for you.

long battery life

nice little speaker for 'preview' without having to block out the rest of the world with your headphones (useful if you

are sharing family pics w/ your kids and don't want to depend on the headset)

nice HD screen BIG screen

nice wow factor

beautiful design

HUGE format replay support (like AVI, which none of the other players support, even the Vision M). AVI for me is huge, because I take a lot of digital camera movie clips, which are in AVI format. I wanted to be able to play these back, without having to convert, and this unit handles it.

removable battery

option for EXTENDED 28 hour battery life

fm, voice recorder

tv outputs

Can manage with what ever software you so desire ... (see cons on IPOD below).

Cons

had to reset unit (remove battery, put battery back in) as the unit froze on me within 72 hour period (however, it is

possible that I had a corrupt MP3 that caused this ... and I did fill it up to 30% capacity and did a lot of moving of files

around. Like any hard drive file system, this can cause some confusion to the underlying OS, so I am less concerned about

the freeze problem ... but will be keeping an eye on it)

headset does not make sense ... should have come with a right angle plug (minor, and a $20 fix ... just buy a pair of nice

headphones). The plug and its location is prone to become damaged (as it is right by the finger controls, and sticks

straight out ... very annoying). I replaced with a nice pair of Philips right angle plug headphones, which comes with a wind

case, for easy travel (without the tangle).

like everyone said about the screen ... it is tough to view with 2 eyes ... let me explain ... (which by the way ... if

you change the underlying skin to SILVER, versus the standard DARK BLUE, you will be in much better shape). Now, for the

explaination ...

If you look with your left eye only ... you will notice a sweet spot when viewing. At that sweet spot, the picture will look

like a picture ... when out of that sweet spot, the black becomes 'shiny'. Now, when you are infocus with your left eye,

close it, and open your right eye ... you will notice that your right eye sees the pic a bit shiny. If you adjust the view

angle with your right eye, your left eye will see that bit of shinyness ... and so, on. I am NOT sure what the folks of

creative were smoking when they designed this screen, but it is tough on the eyes. NOT NOT NOT designed to watch a move, but

definately has the WOW factor, because when you look at it, at a glance, the screen is NICE, almost HD.

If you use polarized lenses, when you are driving, don't even think of looking at the screen, because you wont see

ANYTHING. Somehow, the polarization cancels out the view ENTIRELY. Not sure why, but it does. (Despite the screen flaws,

expensive (but only $80 more then the Vision M, which is a nice alternative, but does not have the replay speaker, the bigger screen or the extensive format repaly support.

General Advice

Don't rely on MP3 tagging, because your songs will always be out of order. Create Playlists ... this way you can go to your

group of songs and can pinpoint any song you want in SECONDS, versus having to sort through incorrect Genre, mislabeled album

titles, etc. It comes down to this ... label your songs yourself, don't depend on these unreliable MP3 tagging services,

which will completely destroy the existing tags on you songset. I have a huge collection of howard stern comedy clips, and

mp3 autotagging had these songs in ballet, soul, etc. And the funny thing is that these services claimed to have completed

100% accurate tagging to my songs. B*&&S%$!. Stick to your own labeleing, and use playlists. I had over 1300 songs

organized in about 1 hour.

Why Creative over an IPOD :

OK, here is why. IN MY LIFE, I purchased 5 songs through IPOD. Notice the workd PURCHASED, meaning I OWN THEM. Would you

believe that when I went to play those songs on another computer, I WAS REQUIRED TO LOG INTO ITUNES, to ACTIVATE THE APPROVAL

OF THOSE SONGS BEING PLAYED!!!!! Is that insane? Talk about big brother keeping tabs on the S&#! I purchased. I hate to

say this, but APPLE is for people that don't have brains. They are for people that don't want to think, and don't care to

ask questions, and don't care to understand. For those ... there is apple. For everyone else, CREATIVE understands your

personal needs, and also has a talented bunch of engineers that understand what an enthusiast REALLY wants. The CON however

to buying the Creative is that you will have to use 5% of your brain. If that is OK with you, then this is the device for

you. If you don't want to use your brain, and want APPLE to do all of the thinking for you, buy an IPOD ...but beware when

you 'upgrade your computer', and APPLE says there is a limit on how many computers you can play your 'PURCHASED' songs on.

ALSO, why this over an IPOD :

built in speaker

nice HD screen, especially if you are a PROUD parent, and want to keep every digital picture of your kids in your shirt

pocket, as well as your full MP3 list.

TV output, to share slideshows with your family

EXCELLENT support : Creative picked up the phone BEFORE I purchased the product, as well as after I purchased the product.

BOTH times, I was treated fairly, respectfully, and was helped. STELLAR.

bad replay support on the IPOD, as it isn't a generic multimedia device.

IPOD doesn't have FM tuner, doesn't have voice recorder (which is awesome by the way), doesn't have TV output, doesn't have removable battery

With IPOD, you better love ITUNES, because you have no choice but to be married to it. Not very American, is it?? Kind of like a fixed marriage. With the Creative unit, you can use what ever you desire (its own software, drag / drop within windows, Mozilla firefox, Windows Media Player, etc.)

Got to go folks, there are probably more items, but my fingers hurt from too much typing.

Buy Creative Zen Vision 30 GB Multimedia Player Black Now

Creative nearly hit bullseye with this device. It's perfectly sized, easy to use, and has plenty of capacity. Images are crisp and colors rich, but the unit falls just short with a narrow viewing angle and sluggish navigation.

First, the bad. The screen is uncomfortable to watch head on. The left tilt helps but it's still not satisfactory. In addition, my unit has several tiny starlike specs that distract me from my movie. Compared to my HP iPaq, the unit takes time to boot and navigation is much slower. Finally, I don't understand their claim to support a variety of formats. For some of my movie clips, like from my digital camera, I can play them right away on my PC on Windows Media Player 10 but have to go through a conversion process to play them on the Creative. And the conversion lowers the quality of the file.

Now for the good. 30GB holds a lot of portable movies. Navigation is a breeze. The sound is wonderful and the screen displays color beautifully, with sharp clean images. The file management software is straightforward. The unit is well constructed and feels good in the hand.

Now for a word about getting content onto your portable video player.

There's always CinemaNow. But if you want to watch the DVDs you own, you've got to rip. Creative includes Video Vault demo software to help get your movies portable, and it's pretty good. I prefer it to the software called "DVD to Pocket PC" because it's more stable. The downside is it creates much larger files (an average movie is 600MB rather than 300MB).

To get DVDs onto the Creative using the demo software, you have to

(1) rip the DVD into a file format the demo software will accept (I use DVD Shrink freeware)

(2) use the demo software to convert that ripped file (2-5GB) into a portable movie file (400-800MB) to put onto the Creative. This step takes 1-3 hours per movie, so I run it overnight.

To get TV onto the Creative, it's helpful to have a Media Center PC with a DVR. This way you can move recorded TV shows to the Creative and watch them on the go.

Yes, this is all very time consuming work, but no different than ripping your CDs to create an mp3 music library. Using this process, one snag I haven't figured out yet is how to get my 16x9 (and wider) movies to play in the correct aspect ratio on the Creative Zen Vision. It ends up being slightly stretched top to bottom. Thankfully, the stretch isn't so bad.

For me the results of all this digital transfer are worth the effort. It's a blast to have this on a trip. The Creative Zen Vision is a pioneer product and a fun toy for the electronics enthusiast.

update: I solved my 16x9 problem. The full version of Video Vault software (whose demo is included with the Zen Vision) has an option for 4:3 or 16:9. This is the best program I've found for converting movies into portable-sized files.

I started looking at items like this one because I wanted a device I could use to store my photos while traveling without lugging a notebook computer around. When I picked this one, I think I made a great choice.

Mainly, in this review, I want to address some misconceptions found in other reviews. First, the screen: The viewing angle is not an issue at all. I was amazed to see what is said in some of the reviews. It is a one-person device, but I can move my head several inches in any direction without problems. The screen is amazingly sharp and clear, and easily visible even in bright sunlight.

Second, you CAN use this as a removable drive. You simple set that up under the extras menu, make sure you have navigated to the removable drive screen on the Vision, and then plug it into a computer. It will come up as a removable drive under My Computer. It works fine. All I had to do to find out about this was read the manual.

It also works fine to store my photos. It's easy, fast, and SMALL, being about the size of a deck of cards. The 30 gigs is enough space for even a pretty long trip, and I take a LOT of photos with a 7 MP camera.

I had no trouble transferring my movies to this, either. I have a very large collection of DVDs, and I wanted to be able to watch them while traveling. I am using a program called Magic DVD Ripper to convert them, and it is easy. It does take about an hour for my computer to do the conversion.

The battery is removable, so you can, if you like, carry a second one. Try that with an Ipod.

All in all, I haven't found much of anything to complain about.

Negatives:

Three hours with video and nine with audio, about 30% less than Creative claims.

Microsoft Windows XP is required; while Creative wisely chose to stop using Microsoft Media Center, they added the XP requirement...a bad move.

Creative software is required for installation AND all file transfers, this cannot be used as an external USB harddrive.

Viewer is required to look directly at the video screen, the viewing angles are extremely narrow. Also there is no color adjustment or antireflective coating.

Positives:

Large screen in a small magnesium-encased unit weighing only 8.3 oz

FM radio and recording, mp3 playback is excellent. (No line-in audio or video recording.)

VGA Video looks great on the display (if angled correctly) and through the tv output.

Removable Lithium-Ion (Double-life battery available)

Customizable EQ Equalizer settings include eight presets as well as custom 5-band EQ sliders and a bass booster.

Overall:

The best for now, but limited by its requirements.

Excellent buy. It's easily my favorite electronic device. Some thoughts on the various features:

I tend to travel a lot. I usually lug around my digital Rebel and take a lot of pictures. A 6.3 megapixel camera tends to fill up memory cards quickly. On my last trip I brought along my Zen Vision and used it to back up my digital pics right from the CF card. I didn't need to carry around my laptop to download the pictures, and I only had to bring two memory cards with me. My back appreciated this change.

The built-in screen far surpasses my expectations. It will not replace a laptop screen for some applications, but the resolution is FANTASTIC.

I already used the Creative MediaSource Organizer to manage my music collection, because I had a Zen mp3 player. This software is superior to the offerings of any other vendor I am aware of. It's neat, fast and powerful. It's multiple panes and intuitive interface make it easy to organize and transfer content.

The Media Explorer is used to transfer pictures and video. The transfer is amazingly quick and painless. When viewed on the Vision's screen, the video is bright and clear. The pictures have excellent contrast. I wish there was a rotate feature so that portrait-oriented photos could take up the whole screen. Then again, I haven't read the manual yet so maybe that feature is there somewhere.

The interface used to navigate between the photo, video, music features is ridiculously easy to figure out (like I said, I haven't read the manual yet and I have used all the features successfully).

One previous reviewer implied that you cannot charge the Vision with a USB plug only. This is not the case. The unit comes with a charger that can be plugged in to a standard wall outlet. However, the Vision will also charge while connected to your computer with the included USB cable, even if if is not plugged in to the charger. If you travel with a laptop, you don't need to carry your charger. I find that plugging in the Vision to a USB port will fully charge the device in a few hours a bit slower than if you plug it in to the charger.

When at home I plug the Vision in to a Bose Wave Music System. The combo is absolutely amazing. It fills my apartment with fantastic sound, and there is no need to mess around with CD's. It's nice not having to have my computer connected to the speaker system to listen to MP3's.

One reqret I purchased a white unit. In retrospect I would have chosen the darker color. The white unit tends to stand out while watching movies in dark environments like an overnight flight.

Coby CX-53 AM/FM Radio with Digital Display & Alarm Clock
  • Ultra slim compact design

I bought this unit, along with another pocket radio, to fill up an order. I planned to use it around the house or put it in my emergency supply kit. The digital display, and clock & alarm aspect sounded interesting, and for $9, it couldn't be a big mistake. The radio is really small, which is fine, and takes AAA batteries. That's OK too, but they don't hold as much energy as AAs. The big problem is the tuning. It has a digital display but it is not a digital tuner. It uses a regular thumbwheel on the side, and the position of that dial is indicated on the display as a digital frequency. The resolution of the tuning is very poor: a small displacement of the knob results in a large tuning change, so you have to be very dexterous to tune in a station. Plus, in my unit, the displayed numbers did not correspond to the real station frequencies; it was miscalibrated. The display is hard to read in daylight, and there is no backlight, so it's no good for beside the bed. Other than that, it seems to work OK for a

Sony Am/fm Cd Clock Radio -I knew all I need to know before purchasing this product. I purchased this Sony AM/FM/MP3/Clock Radio AM-FM tuner, CD-R/RW Playback, Dual Alarm as a gift. It was an excellent purchase. The person I gave it to is very happy with the clock radio, especially the dual alarm and the CD player and playback.

I was hoping for a digital tuner and something with a little power. One watt is not enough. I guess if you want a digital tuner & a battery back-up,you must pay more than $70.00. I do like the large dimmable numbers. My 77 year old mother has a difficult time setting the time though. It's not as intuitive as it should be.

Aiwa FRAP77 Fashion Design Clock Radio

Aiwa FRAP77 Fashion Design Clock Radio
  • Retro design with large analog clock
  • FM/AM analog tuner
  • Battery operated
  • Single alarm
  • Jog dial for alarm setting

My old late 80's Sony Dream Machine cube-shaped analog clock radio died after 14 years of use and I was convinced I'd never again find a battery-operated, analog clock radio that was as small or cute. I was so thrilled to come across this Aiwa model!

Its small enough to not dominate your nightstand, but large enough to tell the time. The controls are super easy to use (no reading the manual) and the alarm on/off switch is easy to flip off even when you're bleary eyed. The big snooze button is also easy to hit and will allow you 5 more minutes of sleep. The AM/FM radio works well, although the FM sound is good but not great, but what do you expect from a single speaker? You have a choice to wake up to the alarm buzz (loud!) or the radio. I love how the alarm is set by the blue ring around the face of the clock--just turn it to point to the desired time....no more fumbling around for that little knob on the back of the clock. This unit takes four AA batteries--two for the clock, two for the radio. A set of batteries lasts me almost a year (I use the alarm 5x a week).

I've had this clock for 4 years now, no problems--and still going strong!

Buy Aiwa FRAP77 Fashion Design Clock Radio Now

This clock radio is so low-tech, it's laughable. And that it's strength: it works flawlessly, including in pitch-black dark and without a manual, or both.

If you do not want a programmable ipod-dock to wake you, nor an electrical item on standby on your nightstand, nor the glow of LED lights illuminating your bedroom, the Aiwa (one of two clocks like these still in production, as far as I know) is the ticket.

How it works: you set the wake-up time by rotating the blue bezel around the dial, you set alarm to "on", you select radio or buzzer, you're done. And in the middle of night, when you want to check the time, you hit the big "light & snooze" button on the top, very simple. No programming, no wifi, no glow, no usb-connection. I love it; I have enough routers, screens and cables in my life already.

Pro:

low-tech

extremely reliable, no failure in over two years of use

runs on 4 AA-batteries (forever, it seems; three for radio, one for clock), or 3v-adapter

excellent volume, pretty good sound for a small radio clock

big light-button impossible to miss

no manual necessary

very good built-quality

very quiet clockwork

Contra:

not shamefully ugly, but not exactly designed by Dieter Rams either

Based on the reviews of others I bought this for my wife who needs a battery operated radio for where she likes it placed in the bathroom. Great reception, nice shape and clock size. Good dials, making tuning and volume adjustment easy. This has a 90 minute auto cut-off for regular play and 60 minute cut-off after the alarm goes off. Our first clock radio was defective, cutting off after about 90 seconds during normal play. Amazon was great taking this back and refunding our full purchase price (return shipping was free and the refund fast). The new one works great and we're very happy. A bit pricey, but it's really hard to find a battery operated clock radio that isn't junk. This is no Bose, but it's a pretty good value for the money.

Love this little clock radio. It is the greatest! It is greener, quiet and very easy to use. It is a great size for a nightstand, and I like that it is dark until you press the easy to find button for the lighted dial. The button also serves as the sleep button which works great. The alarm is simple and the sound is fine.

Low tech wonder! Love it.

Radio Shack Hazard Alert Weather Radio

Radio Shack Hazard Alert Weather Radio
  • Digital SAME technoloty for localized warnings
  • Easy programming by state and county
  • Auto-scans all NOAA channels
  • 120 hour battery backup
  • Includes AC adapter

Hailing from hurricane territory (NW FL) we make sure to have certain items on hand at the beginning of each summer. One of these things are fresh AA batteries for our Hazard Alert Radio from Radio Shack. Certified by both Public Alert and NOAA it delivers weather alerts and other warnings specific to the area in which you program it to monitor.

The front of the radio has a 4 color light panel indicating alert status ranging from "ready" to advisory, watch and warning. There is also a text display. You can also program it to monitor multiple locations which is helpful if you have family or other interests in another part of the country. Its footprint is small and fits easily on a table or bookshelf. It is fully programmed which enables you to choose your location from a list of options in order to receive up-to-the-minute weather updates specific to your needs. It plugs into a regular outlet and takes 6 AA batteries to get up to 120 hours of back-up time during outages.

I bought one of these for my mother in MO 18 or so months ago. It worked great. The alert was loud enough that she could hear it and it went off too much, (but that was the fault of the active storm season, not the radio.)

I liked it well enough that I bought one for me in FL. It worked fine until I noticed that I hadn't been hearing the Wednesday alert tests and the display read "Check OPs," meaning that the radio had noticed that it hadn't received any alerts in quite awhile.

Last week, when tornadoes were popping up all around my mother, she said her radio wasn't going off and that "Check Ops" was displayed. She took it to a local Radio Shack where they confirmed that it was still programmed correctly, but that they had discovered that the units had a high failure rate after they got several months old.

So, take all those 1 and 2-star ratings with a grain of salt. I'd have given the radio a 5 out of the box, but it would be a zero today. What good is a weather alert radio that doesn't alert?

works really well and is simple to hook up and operate. Not too many options and buttons. It gets the job done.

I ordered 4 originally. Caution, do not buy from Capitol Outlet. 3 came in perfect and in new condition. 1 came in used, scratched up, and with double sided tape on the back of it.

The other 3 work perfectly. I had no issues programming it. Did not even look at the book till I wanted to set the time. The rest was prompted on start up.

I like the back light on auto. Power saving and functional. The volume is great, if not too loud. The alarm clock works well and the audio quality is adequate.

My home is on the fringe of coverage so the signal is not perfect. However, you can build or buy external antennas. NOAA even has links on their site for how to do so.

I built our with the plans at this link:The alerts work well and I like how granular the options are.

Since ordering these, I have now ordered 6 more for people I work with and family members. That is how much I like these.

If your concerned about your safety during severe weather do not buy this product. Product would lose its signal, not go off in severe weather and a "check op" error would always appear. Replaced with a sangean cl-100 which has great reception, no signal loss and alerts as advertised.

The Sharper Image ESI-B622 Relaxx Dual Bedside Audio Dock

The Sharper Image ESI-B622 Relaxx Dual Bedside Audio Dock
  • Motorized dual docks for charging two devices simultaneously
  • USB charging port
  • Aux-in for connecting non-Apple devices
  • Convenient remote control
  • Auto-set clock with dual alarm and gradual wake

Bought this at a steep discount at Kohls so figured I'd give it a try since I've never had an 'alarm clock' like it.

Bad things

Way too many buttons on the top. Hard to remember which are the volume buttons and which are the navigation buttons since they look similar. You'll have to memorize what does what unless you want to keep looking at the instructions.

Not easy to scan the radio. You'll want to make presets and leave it at that.

Confusing to set up with all the buttons. The 'auto time' didn't even work.

The grille display is completely unnecessary. Can't even read 'PM.' Cheap alarm clocks have better displays.

It has three dimmer settings, but the least brightest still lights up the room. Need it dimmer.

No AM radio?

Too many unnecessary buttons on the remote, such as the bass adjustment. The difference in its bass isn't big enough to justify adjusting it remotely.

It's relatively big and takes up a lot of table space.

Can't turn down the volume of the alarm while the alarm sounds. Hitting the volume button while it's sounding turns off the alarm.

Good things

It will charge your iphone/ipad.

You can set the alarm for just the work week and not have to worry about it going off on the weekends.

The speakers are decent. Might as well listen through those instead of using your device's speakers.

The gradual wake-up volume adjustment is nice.

Simple things could've made this a much better product and well worth the price, and I'd say it's unfathomable how Sharper Image thought that this was something suitable to release as is.

I had really hoped this would work so I could avoid the $240 spend on the iHome or Phillips unit. Well, it doesn't. Besides the other review's gripes about the grill obscuring the clock, and the vague buttons, this is why I'm returning the B622:

Rear dock didn't charge my iPad

Neither my iPad nor iPhone would fit with their cases on (I have the VERY small MagPul case for the iPhone and it just wouldn't seat)

The Auto-set for the clock didn't work

It was pretty big, and probably didn't need to be since it felt as light as a feather, so it was just filled with air

I did like the rear USB charging port, but I didn't see the need for the motorized iPad dock. Why spend the money on something motorized? Didn't make sense to me.

Received this unit for Christmas. Had never seen it before but I like it. These are my first impressions and if they change I will update.

First of all a feature I didn't see mentioned is a Video output jack to send video to your TV/monitor. Nice extra feature if you have it near a video device.

Now as far as the docking ports go. The iPad port is motorized sort of like a CD drawer on a computer and comes out of the Rear of the unit, most pictures make it look like it is on top. The iPod dock is NOT motorized but does flip down manually and pop up automatically. The plugs on these docks are a little tight at first so you may want to support the area they are mounted to, when plugging in my iPod the first time the dock wanted to pop back inside unit. Also should you have another device that charges via USB they have included a charging port on the rear, nice extra.

As with any new device there is a learning curve on what each switch does on top of the unit. Most of the switches are the same size except the Snooze button which is dead center just like on 99% of the alarm clocks out there. Also it is the largest button on the unit and the remote.

As noted by other reviewers the speaker grill covers the entire front of the unit which is nice for uniformity however it does make it difficult to read the PM/Alarm 1/Alarm 2 indicators but once you learn where they are it is a mute point. The time format can be switched to 24hr format which is a nice touch. As for the self time setting I am not sure how it is getting the signal to do so, mine was one hour fast so I set it back but the minutes and day were correct. Guess time will tell.(pun intended)

Oh yes it does have FM radio that tunes just like most car radios today and it lets you store 10 favorites. No AM which is no big deal, does anyone listen to AM anymore?

All in all I really like this unit so far.

Pros sound is decent, and my iPhone and iPad are both able to dock and charge as advertised.

I also like how you can switch between the devices as inputs to the speakers.

Nice to have iPad and iPhone docks, plus a separate USB can be plugged in for an additional device.

Cons -

Charging: I have iPad 1 with the Apple case. As thin as that is, you must remove from the case to dock and charge. I did this a few times but then noticed the USB port on the back. So now I'm charging off a USB cable. It gives me the added benefit of being able to charge while using my iPad. (but, obviously I'm not getting the benefit of a dual charging station this way). The iPhone also needs to be removed from its case to use.

Brightness: this is why it's going back. The LEDs for the clock are so bright. I saw a reference in one review that they can be dimmed I haven't found this (not sure if there's a hidden switch? A button? A combination of the many buttons?) I end up having to completely block the display when I go to bed, otherwise it feels like a spotlight on you.

I read through other reviews before buying this product and I agree w/ some but don't agree with others. I think if you take the time to read through the manual, you will have a great deal of success using the product. First, as for the phone dock, there is no way to make the dock accessible for the many different phone cases available on the market. So if you are ok w/ removing your case to dock then the product will work just fine and charge your phone very quickly. As for the iPad dock, yes I agree I didn't feel confident using it to dock so I chose to use the back USB to charge my iPad. I don't use my IPad to listen to music but I do like the fact my iPad is next to the product. Using the controls is easy as well. Just take moment to read the manual. It will make using the product more streamlined and effective for you. I bought mine for about 38 bucks including shipping so that's probably the price point you want to be at when buying this product. Hope this is helpful. Good luck.

My husband is an audiophile, and laughed at me when I said I wanted this CD/radio. Unlike him, I don't really care that much about sound quality. Not that it doesn't matter to me at all--it's just that HE has the big, nice sound system already, so I was happy to get something that would look nice in the living room and could play in the background while I was reading. I don't need or even like to play music very loud, so something small and pleasantly retro like this was just what I wanted.(We don't all care for 15 shelves worth of audio equipment and a gigantic subwoofer.) I was so excited!

As other reviewers have stated, it's a little difficult to tune in the radio. That was disappointing, but my CDs sounded nice enough, and the radio/CD player made me happy even to look at. It just seemed RIGHT to listed to Louis Armstrong through it, as if the beauty of the retro cathedral style cabinet made the sound more authentic. It was lovely! I was even considering getting another Crosley product for a different room, having fun paging through the catalog and anticipating what I would ask for for my birthday. I was SO happy.

... for about 7 months.

Then the right speaker blew. (Sound doesn't come out of the front speaker-looking area, but is stereo from the sides.) That it would blow surprised me, seeing as how I never, never listen to it at top volume, nowhere near. The guarantee that comes with this item is limited, and wouldn't cover the problem. Reasonable person that I am, I still wasn't too upset--I was just disappointed a bit. After all, my husband is an audiophile, as I mentioned, and he could replace the speakers for me if we could get replacements. With that happy thought, he wrote Crosley to find out if they sold replacement speakers, or if they had recommendations for replacements. He never heard back. He wrote twice, responsibly checked his spam folder just in case, but NOTHING.

So... I wrote. This is the third time they had been contacted by us. Keep in mind we were both polite: simply explained what had happened, and asked if there were recommended speakers so we could take care of the problem ourselves. I don't care about sound quality that much as I said, but it is unlistenable with all the static in the blown speaker.

Was the third time the charm? No. I got no response, either. Even if Crosley had no recommendations, it seems to me it would be polite to write back. Is this an indication of the quality of their customer service, or the quality of their product... or both? That is, after having looked for speakers ourselves, we don't seem to be able to locate any that will fit. We can find the correct wattage and so forth; however, there is not much clearance inside the case. Every speaker we looked at--and we have spent considerable time looking--seemed to be too deep to fit. So far as we can tell, the speakers are a proprietary make and substitutions that will fit can't be found elsewhere.

I loved this item while it worked. However, unless you are the type of person that can pay $80 or $100 every few months to get a new one ($80 if you get it on sale), don't buy this product. The quality is apparently so poor, the manufacturer, Crosley, is embarrassed to respond even to polite inquiry. I was their perfect target customer--someone who didn't care so much about perfect sound, but who preferred instead the vintage look with just acceptable sound quality--and I am terribly unhappy with them. I'm so unhappy, I'm wasting a lovely Saturday morning writing this review.

Shame on them. I certainly won't be buying another Crosley product for a different room as I had once fondly planned, and I hope I have saved you the trouble and expense of buying ANY Crosley product.

For shame.

This radio has proven to be a conversation piece in our dining room, as it does look rather cool and elegant. And when you play older recordings, say some Bing Crosby on Decca or Billie Holiday on Columbia, it does a fine job and seems to match the period it's trying to represent.

When you play a newer recording, say the new Michael Buble CD, however, it falls majorly short and flat. This has probably the worst sounding stereo sound I've ever come across on a unit like this. Those who like to listen to newer music should look elsewhere. I am just lucky I like to listen to the older stuff, and for that it works just fine.

The CD player in the Crosley CR32 Cathedral Radio With CD Player is a good, solid transport. The playback quality is good considering the small speakers, but the 1/8" stereo jack output on the front works great for routing the output to powered PC speakers or headphones, and with that setup, it sounds much better. Two minor issues: The radio tuner dial is not centered in the window so the vertical reticle does not line up with the frequencies on the dial; and the FM antenna wire could stand to be be another foot longer. In short, it's worth the price.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)I am a huge fan of old time radio and modern full cast radio drama like the BBC's dramatization of The Lord of the Rings and ZBS Foundation productions like The Fourth Tower of Inverness. While they sound best through headphones, especially the modern productions, there is just something cool about hearing them come out of an old fashioned radio.

I shopped around a bit before deciding on this "Cathedral Radio with CD". I wasn't around when the originals were being used, but I love the design of the high-peaked wooden cabinets. They look so much classier than the typical modern black stereo system. Crosley offers a couple of these faux-antique CD players, but this was the one that I fell in love with.

Obviously, the sound isn't going to be as great as a super surround sound system, but it does the trick. I never turn it up too loud, but keep the player in my bedroom to listen to radio plays at night. The cabinet is actually bigger than I had expected, being about the size of a small TV set when I thought it was going to be about the size of a toaster.

All in all, this is a fantastic product and exactly what I wanted. It adds the right atmosphere to my favorite radio plays, and looks great doing it.

I bought this ihome ipod dock at another store. I liked the size of it and the sound quality. It is very easy to use. Two months later, it stopped working. The display grew very dim until I could not see it at all and the buttons stopped working. I tried replacing the batteries. I tried using other outlets in my home. Nothing worked. I am so glad I bought the product replacement plan for it. I will never buy another ihome product.

I got this clock/charging station last year at CHristmas and it still works great. In fact my wife wants one this year. Love the dim-able display and the ability to wake up to my music or the phones soft to louder alarm.

I bought this ihome for my daughter. It last 4 months before it stopped working. We had to pay 35 dollars and shipping to send it in for our warranty replacement and receive a new one. The new one also only lasted 4 months before it too stopped working. It is not worth the 35 dollars and shipping to return it again. So sorry we spend the 35 dollars and shipping for a new one. Sorry to see so many others were having the same problem but feel a bit better that it was not just us. Poor product and I would not even give it one star except that I had to rate it in order to submit this review.

I thought this was a great little product until the display quit working after about 4 months. I was very disappointed but could still use it until another 4 months later when it stopped working completely. DEAD. It was a gift and so I don't have a receipt. Less than a year old and I'm in the market for another ihome. Such a bummer! Find a better product with better reviews.
