iLuv Internet Radio with Dual Alarm Clock (Black)

iLuv Internet Radio with Dual Alarm Clock
  • Internet radio with dual alarm clock
  • Powerful built-in speakers
  • Large display with 3 step LCD dimmer level control
  • Auto time update through internet
  • Remote control with batteries included

There was so much potential although I just find myself saying "BUT" way too many times.

They emphasize the clock display is remarkably large BUT it really isn't.

It is a nice looking unit, BUT you can't appreciate how large the case is until you see it and realize it will take up most of average sized night stand.

The sound quality is quite good if you play it at 4 to 5 or higher BUT the quality goes down at the lower volume level where most people realistically would use at the bedside. I haven't found any adjustments for things like bass and treble.

Customer support is terrible. They give you a phone number BUT it just sends you to voice mail. They give you a way to send a message online for express service BUT it is not "express" or helpful. I asked some simple questions while I was waiting for the unit to ship and it took two days for them to respond. They didn't actually attempt to answer my questions at all BUT just sent a .pdf of the manual and told me to read it. Not one of my questions was answered in the manual they sent (simple stuff like does the unit support WPA2, have a place for a 9 volt backup battery, etc.). The manual is very brief and does not go in-depth on any technical details like networking. There are many menus of options on this system that are never discussed in the manual. (Update: they did send me a second email a week later that did attempt to actually answer a few of my questions, and yes, it does support WPA2 but keep on reading).

The biggest killer to me, unless customer support can't advise me otherwise (waiting to hear from them), is that any time your wireless router is turned off OR the security key does a rolling change of the key AND you are using a wireless connection to the router, the iLuv is not able to reestablish a connection on its own. It will try BUT fail. When it fails, it starts the network wizard again AND DELETES YOUR KEY/PASSWORD! You have no choice and no way of stopping it. Even if you try to bypass the wizard and manually configure things, it will wipe out all of the network settings (it keeps the station presets, etc.) and require you to redo things. Oddly, when you manually reenter the key (the same key as you inputted the first time), it will reconnect on its own just fine. If you have a "strong" key for your system (like you should to be really secure), it takes forever to re-enter in the key. You would not believe the arcane method to enter in data via the buttons on the front panel.

This means whenever your router rolls/changes the security key (this is often multiple times an hour for security reasons) the wifi connection will drop and it cannot reconnect. Additionally, any time you turn off your router for an approaching storm, have a power outage, change any setting on the firmware of your router that requires it to reboot itself, etc., you are going to need to reenter your many-charactered key. Router power downs and reboots are just a fact of life. Using a router without a password would bypass this problem BUT that approach is not smart/safe. All of my other wifi devices can reconnect without a problem, so the issue is with the iLuv radio.

This brings up anther flaw. When you plug this unit in via Ethernet (which works well), there should be a software application provided on CD from iLuv that allows you to do all of the programming via your PC versus through the keys on the front of the radio. This is a serious oversight by iLuv.

UPDATE: After about another week (some "express" service, eh?) iLuv finally got back to me in regard to my second email about the dropped wifi connection issues. This is their one_sentence answer to the wifi disconnecting problem: "This problem will not happen after reset iNT170 & re-connect to internet every time user changed the password." I am sorry, but what a lame attempt at a guess/reply after a week of waiting.

I wanted to keep this thing... BUT I just am not feeling the "luv" at this point. The industry is now on the second generation of internet radios and I expected more. Maybe iLuv will release an updated firmware to fix the flaws. The radio is being returned today :( .

I have had it for about a week. It does not seem to be able to play media from a computer but the sound is fairly good and I have had no trouble at all finding and holding the network connection. There are lots of presets (20 for Internet and 20 for FM), however the FM tuner is not the most sensitive and although I do live in the sticks it does not get as strong a signal as my little Sony radio. It was easy to set up favorites on the website and the iLuv picked them up right away. So in a way you have unlimited presets. The alarm can wake you with a buzz, FM or Internet and has some nice programmable features such as weekday only etc...and 2 alarms. I live overseas and miss some of my local stations so this was just the ticket and the price is right. It also has a aux in for iPods and such.

This iluv radio stops and starts as it plays. It is most annoying, especially when listening to the news. It looses the internet connection for no apparent reason, then reconnects in 30 seconds or 3 minutes. This problem occurs in wifi mode or with a LAN line connected. "Customer service" is an oxymoron at iluv. There seems to be no viable way to communicate with tech support, as they don't answer the phone, don't respond to voice mail, and they have yet to respond to an email set to them a week ago. With so many other internet radios to choose from don't waste your time and money by buying an iluv product.

This is an amazing product that does exactly what is advertized.

Sound quality is great and connection to the internet is rapid. Computer doesn't need to be on. Matter of fact you don't even need a computer, just a connection to the internet thru a modem/router. You'll need to know the web key of your router which is located on the side next to the serial #.

You can have the INT170 search by location, genre, language, new stations and most popular. You can also store favorites and preferences.

I read a previous review about how this radio loses the connection and shuts down on its own, regardless of the type connection. I disregarded the warning, and bought the radio. This radio shuts down EVERY time I use it I am lucky if I get to hear a song before it turns off.

The troubleshooting in the manual consists of about 3 steps basically plugging it in so that was worthless. iLUV provides no tech support online or in chat format. The FAQ section of there so-called "Support" website tells you how you can pay for tech support, but gives no solutions to the lost connection / shut down problems.

I have updated the firmware, verified the region codes and settings are correct, and gone through every possible menu setting to see if I did something wrong.

I think it is a piece of junk.

well, after receiving this item it stated not compatible w/Ipod touch 3rd generation and the pic showed an Ipod toouch. The description said it didn't work with Iphone or shuffle..........annoying after getting it. It is also very cheap looking and has no weight to it at all which adds to it's cheapness, as far as workmanship goes. Would not reccomend.you always get what you pay for.

This clock radio appears to be identical to one I bought under the Craig brand name at a large drugstore. There's nothing special about the sound or the design, but it works just fine and is a good value. The item on this page appears to be an updated model; with the model I own, the iPhone 3G more or less fits in the cradle and plays through the speakers, but does not charge. (An alternative is to plug the iPhone into the wall and connect it to the speakers using the included audio cable.) My daughter is now using the clock radio with her 5th-generation iPod, which charges and plays perfectly.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 11 year old daughter. It works with her ipod nano 4th gen.

It is not an easy item to figure out. To set the alarm you have to pick up the clock and use the button

inconveniently located on the back.

Also, whenever the ipod is docked and you use the click wheel to advance to a different song the clock returns to flashing 12:00. You have to remove the ipod from the clock to avoid resetting the time.

The sound is OK, not great but OK.

If I only paid $10.00 I would expect the poor quality and quirks....but at $50.00 it is a HUGE disappointment.

I plugged it in, it took forever to figure out. Then when I switched songs it shut off and wouldn't start. It felt cheap, the remote never worked and isn't worth the time to even look at it online.

I purchased this clock in November ,for my son, for Christmas. When Christmas finally arrived and he got to open it, we found that it didn't work. After contacting amazon and then Tigerdirect, we discovered that they wouldn't exchange it because it was purchased over 30 days ago. Who opens and checks their Christmas presents before Christmas morning? Shouldn't Christmas fall into a special circumstance category? Anyway, the clock wouldn't charge his Ipod...it actually de-charged it, it turns on by itself, the tune + button doesn't work, the volume + button doesn't work, and there is a loud buzz when he tries to play music from the Ipod. All in all I will never buy Naxa again and I am very disappointed with Tigerdirect.

I hope you have a better experience than we did.

This MP3 player is a nifty looking little thing but it is not compatible with Rhapsody! I bought this as a gift for a special needs relative who uses Rhapsody exclusively and was so disappointed when they couldn't use it for that. I since replaced it with one that is compatible & if I still had my shipping info I would return it. I just assumed it would work!

We bought this MP3 player for our 9 year old son and it woris fine for him. I didnt want an expensive one that would matter if he lost it, but I also didnt want one that was so cheap that it would break or not work. This one was reasonable priced and works great for him, it is easy to use and understand. He loves to play with the camera and video player. I would recommend it for someone who isnt looking for the world within an MP3 player.

This Mp3/Mp4 player feels and looks very cheap. The quality is terrible and the touchscreen is ridiculously unresponsive at times! You have to press very hard sometimes, and even then it won't do what you want it to do. I highly recommend getting an iPod instead, it will cost much more but it is definitely worth it. This is a piece of JUNK!!!! The camera takes the worst pictures ever, and the video quality is not much better. When Coby describes it on there website they make it sound so Awesome, but really this player isn't worth 5 dollars! The built-in speaker is worthless it is so quiet that you can barely here it. I had to buy a separate pare of speakers. Do not buy this, it looks like it is good but it's a lie! Don't make the same mistake I made!

Midland 74200 Digital All Hazard Alert Monitor

Midland 74200 Digital All Hazard Alert Monitor
  • 7-channel weather/hazard alert radio with SAME technology
  • LCD screen indicates channel and 8-character warning messages such as "tornado"
  • 3 levels of warning lights (statement, watch, and warning)
  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Supplied with telescopic antenna and power supply

As an unobtrusive weather radio that works, this one is it. It has full featured S.A.M.E. capabilties. It will store up to 15 county identifiers (FIPS codes) The receiver is excellent and audio is clear & quiet. I have owned this radio for almost a year and still keep the manual close by. It is sort of a pain to program. But when it comes to function it is great. Mine came with an AC adapter. It has 9V battery backup, external antenna, and alert jacks. Speaker and warning signal volumes are adjusted individually. The alerts can be set for tone or voice. The manual shows over 35 types of alerts it will display on the LCD screen as well as different tone patterns. And as the NWS adds new alert capabilities it will receive them automatically. Three different colored leds show "warning", "watch" or "statement". Up to three different overlapping alerts with overlapping effective time periods can be stored and reviewed by scrolling the display. The display is rather rudimentary, but the performance of the radio makes up for it. When it is connected to external power (it can be used in the car with the proper cig plug) the display is constantly illuminated. It is also set to respond to NWS test broadcasts. The alarm clock fuctions as an alarm clock with snooze. A large bar on the front turns the radio & alert on & off very conveniently. Once the radio is programmed, it works quite well. I have had numerous Weather radios (and returned many also) and this is the best overall performer yet. WX capability is being added to all sorts of radio products with iffy results. This one works and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Just keep your manual.

has everything you want in a weather radio.. but the light is very dim in the display, and the contrast isn't good in the lcd, therefore it is diffcult to read...very difficult and cannot be adjusted.

I searched, researched, priced, and compared all makes and models of weather/ emergency radios. Result: Amazon offers an excellent deal and Midland offers an excellent product. I have this Midland model 74-200 for a home alert and I also purchased the Midland 74-250 for mobile alert info. Both have SAME technology that you program into the radio. Note: Initially, the programming can be thought provoking; but once this is accomplished, any weather/ emergency alert will advise you, at your command, of your specific areas in text and alert tones. ANYTHING can happen at ANY TIME These radios will let you know immediately. The best manufacturer for this type of of product is Midland. The best place to purchase this product is here, at Amazon.

It's the best there is, the only one ... with SAME ability (an absolute must), but could be better.I can't complain about the weather radio, but the attempt to be a clock radio is poorly conceived. You can barely read the clock and the settings are awkward. The clock lighting comes from a 20 year old technology.

This radio is a very good weather radio to use. It's "Statement", "Watch", and "Warning" lights are very useful when trying to find out how important the alert is. The clock is a nice thing to have and it will automatically interupt any of the other functions to bring you severe weather. It has a very nice range; I received a weather transmitter from over 75 miles away on it. I like the control that changes the siren volume as it doesn't have to be too loud. The programming is a little difficult, but after you get the hang of it, it isn't that complicated. A very good radio to own for the price. It is also up to date. Per next year, all weather radios are required to have the text display, and this one does. Just a word of warning: The alert siren WILL wake you up; it can be very loud even with the volume turned down.
