I bought this for a friend for Christmas. She is not very tech savvy so I had to set it up for her. She keeps it on her desk at work where it is connected to a wireless network. She uses it to listens to Pandora and keep up with her busy clan on Facebook-as well as all the funny/cute animal sites that the apps can provide-it's connected to the Chumby site. which is the source of the apps.

No, it's not particularly stylish or exciting, but it works for her.

I picked this one up at Best Buy for $40. I am discovering all kinds of internet stations I didn't even know existed. Easy set up..as long as you have a wireless router it will work. The infocast features iheartradio which features many Clear Channel stations. Nice display...you can search by city and format. It also allows you to select favorites and play on shuffle.

The Shoutcast section features hundreds,maybe thousands of internet stations. You go to the search engine,type in the web address or say, oldies, and 25 stations matching that category will show up. The only hassle is there is no place to save favorites,and that can be quite cumbersome.

When you set this up with your computer it will give you a choice of over 1000 apps, like The New York Times,People,Entertainment Weekly and a lot of CBS stuff including stories on their evening news, 60 minutes pieces and the monologues from David Letterman and Craig Ferguson.

Theres a lot of stuff packed in this unit and it is so nice to hear Internet stations that cater to my tastes..a wide variety of oldies from the 50s through the 70s..stuff you can't find on terrestrial or satellite radio. I'll probably upgrade to a more complex model with station favorites eventually,but for $40 I found a gem here and I've been using it constantly.

You might want to check out Best Buy. Last I looked it was going for $50..still quite a deal.

The Insignia Infocast 3.5" is Best Buy's version of the Chumby. In fact, this device runs the Chumby software. So it's really quite a steal. (I got mine on Amazon for $20!)

Two things to consider before making your purchase: 1) If you are not buying a brand new item, you will need to call Insignia customer service and have them deactivate the previous owner before you can activate it. Not knowing this caused me a few hours of frustration. And be prepared to wait a few days for them to deactivate it. However, you can use it in the meantime; you won't be able to edit or add channels, though. 2) This device relies on a good wireless signal. I had to move my wireless router to get a better signal. If you're "stealing" your neighbor's wifi, it's probably not going to be strong enough to stream content without interruption.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound for such a small device. It has good sound level with little distortion. I detected only a slight tinny quality to it. The bass range is decent, however.

The selection of apps that came as defaults are excellent. There are some really fun clocks. And the features overall are diverse. I appreciate the backup alarm in the event that an Internet connection is not available or a signal is too weak to wake to Pandora or any other streaming service.

I was lead to believe that installation and setup were tricky, but I had mine up and running in a few minutes. Now I just have to wait for customer service to deactivate the previous owner so I can start installing my own selection of apps!

January 2013 the Chumby company went out of business. If you purchase this product, you MIGHT have an expensive alarm clock but you will have no internet programs or applications meant to support the product. This product should no longer be sold by anyone. I purchased 2 of them in November 2012 and gave one as a gift and both items are now useless. Suppliers should pull the inventory and write off as a bad business expense instead of continuing to sell them. Verify my information here

This is a really neat little alarm clock. The chumby web server is still up for your apps. Though there is a firmware that can be used if that option goes away. The vendor offered the product at a great price and shipped promptly. I would deal with the again.
