This product exemplifies the decline of Sony quality. Unless they redesigned this model since I bought one in December 2000, it is not an armband radio. It only has a strap suitable for hanging on something, or wrapping around your wrist. It does have a belt clip. To release the clip manually, you push on the tab. To release it automatically, you put it on your belt. Unfortunately, the automatic release feature occurs when you least expect it, usually when standing over some hard surface like concrete or a glass table top. The best way I have found to carry the unit usually is to put it in my pocket. Definitely not recommended for sports! The tuning and reception are very poor indeed, with station bleed through, regardless of inside or outside location. Setting the digital to 98.7 yields 103FM usually. That does not happen with any other of my radios at home. There are switches on the back for Mega Bass and FM Sensitivity. These are cheap switches which never fully "click" into place, requiring constant fiddling that results in shorting static.

There are some good features, like the locking feature, which either locks the station setting or power off. This is necessary because the buttons tend to get pushed (especially when in my pocket). The volume control, however, does not lock in, and may turn up or down unexpectedly. Do not buy one of these, and please consider Panasonic or JVC products. All my JVC and Panasonic products are topnotch, while every walkman I ever owned an most recently my Sony video recorder have broken. And I babied them. So no more phony baloney Sony for me!!

I couldn't agree more with the above reviewers: this is an extremely poorly made product and I am glad I lost it today as it's given the impetus to finally replace it with something that (a) can be carried without being in the pocket (b) whose volume does not flip up or down easily and (c) that every time it's bumped--which is often if you use it for sports--emits loud beeps into your headphones.

My Sony Walkman from years ago, broke, when i dropped it. I was looking for the exact same one and lost out on e-bay. frustrated, i turned to amazon. they did not have my exact one, but this one is almost as good as the one i had before. I hate tinny sounding music! Reception on this radio is quite exceptional in addition to all of its other very nice features. This one offers good mega bass and a good sound and operation for the money. As others have stated you probably will want a better set of earphones to fully enjoy listening to your music, but the supplied pair is certainly adequate for most purposes.

This radio can only be manually tunned by pressing the + (forward/up) or (back/down) frequency tuning button, but I have found this manual tuning capability totally adequate because of the simplicity of the five preset tuning buttons which totals to 15 different presets! All presets are very intuitive and extremely easy to use (a one button press system) as well as very easy to set. They are also easy to change as needed, especially if you travel a lot. Also, as long as you change the battery within 3 minutes of removing it, no presets will be lost (fortunately changing the battery is a snap).

Battery life is very good goes a few months on an AAA. I just switched to rechargeable batteries, but even with regular alkalizes it's pretty cost effective. Complete with good ergonomics, intuitive presets and tuning, and a sturdy water-resistant case, I would recommend this product to everyone. It also comes with a belt clip that nicely and firmly attaches to the radio for convenience.

The battery life is awesome. The sound from the AM/FM radio is of the highest quality. Ten presets and easy to access buttons, Which I need if I want to change stations while I'm running. I have no problems with reception or getting stations to stay in tune. I did replace the headphones as I do not like anything sticking in my ears. I have purchased Sony products in the past and have always been satisfied with their durability, radio reception and sound quality. A+++
