Very happy with this radio and its signal strength. They shipped the tip for my cell phone right away. Also have the Eton 300 that we're also happy with.

The build is good. This radio is awful. The reception is terrible. Stations drift continuously and are very hard to stabilize. AM produces a whooshing sound if the station does not lock in so it sounds OK for a second the you get a whoosh then it sounds ok, and so on, all the time which makes it very anoying.

Tuning is done by jogging the tuning knob up or down and not by turning one way or the other like a dial. This makes changing stations a pain although it does scan if the knob is turned up or down and held there for a second or two. AM is the worst. FM so-so. No memories so no preset stations which would be great. Not on this radio.

With earphones on there is always a loud hiss even if the volume is turned down to zero. The battery indicator never either shows full or empty but no in-betweens. If you start cranking to recharge and have the radio on, you will see that it will show full charge all the time even after just a few turns. The manual does not say for how long you will have to crank to fully charge the batteries but I believe it is going to be for a very long time. At a good clip 300 turns will only get you AM radio for a couple of minutes.

As a bedside alarm clock radio it fails as the clock in the LCD is too small and you have to get up close to read it. Also, you'll be blinded by the very bright green display! You will probably also wake anyone nearby. Turning the display on will probable save you from having to use the flaslight!

The flashlight works well and so does the SOS and siren features. Perhaps the best part is the communications feature with the included walkie. That has worked well. But do not believe the range reported as it is much much shorter. I have not used the NOAA feature as it is not available where I live.

This radio will get stored as an emergency unit for just those cases when needed. It is not any fun to use or listen to when its emergency features are not needed. I have much better sounding radios that this.

We got this device for emergencies, but I'd have to say that at least as a radio, the sound quality is so,so. It does seem to work OK in it's other functions and I can see that they would be useful, but in it's day-to-day use as a radio, it wouldn't be my first, or second choice. But given that it has all the emergency capabilities say for when the power is out, I still think that at the price I paid (as a gold box buy) it was a good deal. All of the emergency functions seem to work OK & the everyday radio function is ...passable.

bought based on reputation, signal sensitivity is unacceptable, my 50+ year old Zenith blows this beast away. Couldnt pick up FM broadcast unless you attached a shovel to it. Will save it for the apocalypse.

We are not to happy with the service.

One of the reason we bought the eton was for the phone charger. We called and they sent us the wrong one, that was over a month ago. We then called for the right one and they told us another 5 weeks, due to christmas, which I think is amazing since you are in Palo Alto and I am in Santa Clara. We just think there could be a little faster service.

We now received the right charger and now the eton is unable to read, it will only charge the phone if it is plugged in and the battery is dead and then you can talk on the phone.

Not worth the trouble.

Also the eton does not get good radio reception when the car is moving.
