Sony ICF-C218 Dream Machine™ AM/FM Clock Radio in Black

Sony ICF-C218 Dream MachineĀ™ AM/FM Clock Radio in BlackI bought this alarm clock to replace another one I had used for nearly 10 years before it finally died. At first this one was okay, but I wasn't crazy about it. It tries to automatically help you with DST switches, but apparently it was programmed before they changed the dates because it wouldn't switch on the right dates (and yes, I had the calendar set up right). More accurately, it wouldn't switch so I would manually switch it and then later on my clock would move forward or backwards an hour on its own! I was late to work one day because of this! Just let the user be responsible for changing the time, trying to help will only lead to problems!

Also, it has an auto-dim feature for day/night, but after a year it seemed to be permanently stuck in the night mode. It's so bad that in the morning I can't even read the display! I may have just gotten unlucky with this one, but I would steer clear of it anyway.

After about three months of behaving normally, the clock began buzzing ever so quietly one night. It sounded like a phone vibrating in the next room. Actually so much so that I woke my roommate to tell him his phone was going off. Then we realized it was coming from my room where only the clock was plugged in. I unplugged it and the sound stopped.

Today, a couple months later I decided to plug it back in and see if its working. Not a minute later my roommates car alarm went off. No one was by the car and his alarm has never went off randomly. That could very well be a crazy coincidence, but this clock just freaks me out now. Lol. Well my android is my go to alarm these days anyway.

At first, this clock was great. It automatically set the time and changed for daylight savings time, as well as having some other great features. After about 6th months the display became extremely dim, so much so that I couldn't read it in the daylight. The alarm also sporadically stopped working, I had to use my phone as a back up alarm....kinda defeats the purpose of having an alarm clock. I am disappointed in Sony.

I picked this up at a wal-mart for 10 dollars. I plugged it in and it already knows the time. Comes with a backup battery installed already and doesn't sound too bad. So far so good. If anything changes so does the review.

it is constantly changing the time for DST but it's never on the right date. I was an hour late to work today because for some reason on a Thurs/Fri overnight, it set the time back an hour. This is not the first time this has happened. Also, it will not let you set the time as you want to, (I like to keep my alarm clock ahead 20 minutes). ALSO, the controls are too small and hard to use.
