The iHome iP92BZ is a great investment if you need a new alarm clock and speakers to play you iPod. A sleek looking clock that compliments any room, it provides great sound quality, a good radio, and comes with a helpful remote. It has a dual alarm system that allows you to set two different alarms, for example, an alarm for the weekdays and one for the weekends. The iP92BZ provides a variety of ways for the alarm to go off, it could be your iPod's music, a buzzer or even the radio. I'm one of those people that enjoy listening to music daily and so having a system that produces high quality music is a must and the iHome iP92BZ does exactly that. Volume is never a problem, at 50% volume the sound more than fills any room and at even higher levels the sound remains crystal clear and distortion free. This version of the iHome also provides a good radio quality, usually reception at my home is an issue, but with this system I get good reception with little static. An added bonus, is that not only does the systems allow for the playing of music, but will also charge your docked iPod, which keeps your device ready for a use on the go. The clock is really easy to set up because there is a time zone button which you click and then choose the time zone your in, and on top that there is a daylight savings switch so you don't have to worry about trying to figure out how to change the time manually.

The included remote control and free software application adds nice finishing touches to an already loaded system. The full function remote allows easy access to the iHomes features so that you can control your music experience from across a room, being able to switch between music and radio is cool feature when you don't want to listen to the same music from your iPod over again. The iHome software application is available free on the iTunes website allows access to a neat set of features, that I will leave for you to discover.

The system is not perfect. It is not a compact system. It has a rather large footprint when used on a nightstand. Some of the settings buttons are located on the back of the device, which makes them hard to find and use if you don't notice them.

As far as I am concerned, the number one thing an alarm clock needs to do (besides be functional) is differentiate between weekdays and weekends. Most of us work M-F and, if you are anything like me, I am pretty darn good, but not perfect, at remembering to set my alarm every night. An alarm clock that you can choose to have go off M-F or Weekends or 7 Days a Week is a must-own. No more waking up in a panic wondering if you forgot to set it. There are two alarms if you want to do, for example, a weekend alarm (ugh) and a weekday alarm. Another example would be an early alarm for one partner and a later alarm for another bed partner.

Next is the waking up part. You can choose to wake up to the radio, iPod, or buzzer. The radio signal on this thing is much much stronger than most (even without using the retractable FM and AM antennas). We live in a hole (ok.. fine... a canyon) and the signal has a hard time making it here. The alarm clock this replaced could only get a couple horrible stations and this, without extending wires everywhere, got all of my favorites either completely clear or with a little fuzz.

As far as sound goes, it is excellent for an alarm clock. You can do your personalized tweaks to get it to your happy place which is appreciated by those of us who are pickier about their music.

Pre-programed with the correct time out of the box. Just use the button on the back to select your correct time zone. (It is super handy that they hid these buttons that we would only use once or twice a year so they don't clutter up the control panel).

Daylight Savings Time (DST) switch on the back so twice a year you don't have to remember how to change the time.. just a simple flick of a switch and you lose or gain an hour.

Dimmer for the lighted clock face. I sleep much better in the dark so I appreciate that the clock face can be anywhere from DAYGLOW to almost completely off (8 levels of brightness... yes... a ridiculous number but you are guaranteed to find one that suits you).

A "hard-to-find-small-button-to-turn-off-the-alarm." It isn't hidden in a trap door or anything but it isn't easy to accidentally smack and turn off with your hand while you are searching for the snooze in your sleep. The snooze button is a long button in the front that is easy to slap which I love!

Sleep setting. Listen to your iPod or the radio for a predetermined amount of time (15 minutes minimum) and it will shut off after that time.

Remote. Wasn't sure I was going to use it but I actually have gotten some use out of it when I am on the other side of the room doing chores and want to switch songs or change the volume.

Battery back up for those lovely winters when the power goes out. No excuses about how your alarm didn't go off and that is why you are hours late for work. (Or you don't have to tell your co-workers you have an iHome.)

This product is easy for me to recommend. The only thing I am unable to comment on is longevity, as I have only owned it a couple weeks. If there are any issues in the future, I will come back and post.

this isnt a bad product but i must totally agree with one other user about the nap feature-good idea of allowing you to push a button for a nice nap at certain time intervals-BUTthe only alarm available is the buzzer-which cannot be adjusted for volume-and is set at such an incredibly low volume that i can be awake and next to it and not sure it is even ringing-seriously,i cant understand how this was alowed to proceed to production with this flaw-like all the other features but must say i am peeved that such a useful feature is worthless

This unit has been great so far with no problems at all. It has 2 separate alarms which you can set to whatever day of the week you want. You can set it to wake up to the radio (which has great reception), ipod, or aux port. The speakers are more than acceptable for a unit this small and for the cost. Even the remote works anywhere in the room regardless if you are behind the unit or not, something I haven't seen in a value system. The part that confused me was that there weren't any instructions on how to stand the antenna. I finally figured out that the stand is built into it if you fold the piece in the middle and snap it to the bottom. Overall I'm very happy with this alarm clock.

I will sum up my experience with this product with simple points.

The Good:

1. The sound quality is great.

2. The preset radio stations, audio in, and iPod/iPhone plug works great and, like I said, produces great audio.

3. The display is nice and offers many different levels of dimming.

4. Battery backup is nice.

5. The ability to sync time with your iPhone is cool too.

The Bad:

1. The "app" that they sell to "enhance" it doesn't work. Just look on the app store. 1 Star rating and many negative reviews.

2. If you set the volume low for "sleep" mode, that is the volume that it uses to wake you up in the morning (when the alarm works...see "the ugly")! So basically, you are supposed to wake up to the same level of sound that you were able to fall asleep too. Yeah...that's a great idea. The app "enhancement" can fix this, but like I said, the app itself doesn't work.

3. If you decide that you want to use the sleep feature but want something else beside music to wake you up, there is a "buzzer" feature. Well, the "buzzer" sounds more like an alarm on a children's wrist watch...just a little beep-beep-beep. Good luck waking up to that.

The Ugly:

1. The alarm is intermittent in all wake up modes....AM/FM, line in, "buzzer", iPod. It simply doesn't work sometimes. I've tried many different variables for a week and haven't figured out what makes it work and what doesn't.

2. If your device has a "sleep" mode or the screen times out after a certain amount of time (like, oh 6-8 hours of sleeping), then so does the audio. IF YOUR ALARM IS SET TO WAKE TO AUDIO, IT WILL NOT SOUND! The only way to avoid this is to have your screen stay on all the time, stare at the bright light from the screen at night, then change the settings in the AM so your battery isn't killed during the day. Very inefficient.

The Bottom line is that if you want a cheap speaker set for your device that also produces great sound, this is great. However, be warned that if you are looking for an alarm clock, LOOK ELSEWHERE!
