I own this clock radio purchased at BB. My objective was to find a stylish clock radio that would fit on my smallish night stand. It had to have dual alarms 5 day and weekend mode; and be able to have choice of either buzzer alarm or radio. The display must have dim settings. This Philips model does all that and a lot more.

Little did I know the search would take me to so many stores. Nowadays, clock radios are an afterthought. Most are cheap-o looking and garish. I couldn't believe the poor quality of clock radios out there. This Philips model fits the bill for me with a couple of caveats see below. Although an iPod dock wasn't on my required list, the choices for clock radios are so much better than without it.

Here's what I like:

* Great sound from such a small unit

* Small footprint on the night stand most other clock radios with iPod docks are a bit large

* Contemporary looking looks nice with my black iPod Classic

* Easy to use albeit it helps to read the manual

* Remote to set time and alarm, as well as play iPod

* Charges iPod while in dock

* Gradual alarm from whisper-quiet to loud

* Ability to use either the (gentle) buzzer, radio or iPod for the alarm

* Feels sturdy

* Did I mention the great sound?

Here are those caveats:

* The main purpose of the clock radio is to tell the time. The numbers are a bit over-stylized which you can't really tell on the photo online or the box. It's evident as soon as it's plugged in. It's hard to read the time from say across the bedroom while getting dressed. But I have gotten used to it; so just a warning in case you really need, say large, bright plain numbers.

* The display doesn't have enough dim settings; it's either very bright, less-bright-but-still-bright or off. This is unfortunate; as sometimes I do wake up in the middle of the night wondering what time it is. However the less-bright-but-still-bright lights up the room a bit too much so I use the off setting. It's not a deal breaker but if you are really sensitive to the light; then you might want to consider another model amazingly, it's difficult to find a model where there are decent dim settings.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the clock radio and would recommend it but also note those warnings about the brightness and somewhat difficult to read numbers.

Overall it sounds great, but yes, the light should be a lot dimmer for night, there is only a high, med, and off. The Med is to bright for a bedroom.

First of, if you are like me and need a dark room to sleep in, this Philips alarm clock is for you. You can turn the light off completely, which is not an option you can find on most of these types of machines. I also like that it has such a small footprint, remote control and the machine is very light/not heavy (for moving around if needed). I think the sound is great for a little alarm clock, it's not that "hollow" sound you usually get with these machines. I mostly only listen to it when the alarm goes off, but when I use it to listen to my ipods while I do stuff around my room, it sounds pretty good, nice base up to the volume 20 level; anything higher than that the sound has that vibration sound and the base slips. One reviewer said it doesn't charge his/her ipod, I don't have that problem. It plays and charges all my ipods; Nano 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th generation, iPod Classic 6th generation and iPod Touch 3rd generation. I use the remote, which is very easy to manipulate in my opinion. The buttons on the machine are "flushed" flat, which makes them challenging to use. Setting up the machine is also easy, just read the instructions first before trying to set it up not difficult at all. I like this machine so much I am buying another one.

As with every Philips product I have purchased or played with, this one is the same. Decent performance thats far from perfect. Generally, Philips products are great to look at but functionality could use a little bit more work.

Things to consider for future improvement that Philips should really consider when making a solid alarm clock.

1. Display is not bright enough. Digits are faint when you try to look at it from a short distance. you can't even see it in certain angles.

2. Loses time if unplugged for a few minutes and no battery back up!

3. Alarm siren is way too soft! Will not work if you are a deep sleeper. Have to use the radio on full blast if you want to wake up in time.

4. You can't set alarms by individual days. would be nice to be able to set alarm days according to personal preference instead of the standard programmed ones.

5. Programming the alarm could be more user friendly.

There are a few good things that this alarm clock has.

1. Fairly impressive audio quality from such a small package.

2. Syncs with Apple Ipod like a charm.

3. The sleek style and design is a very modern touch.

The bottom line is this, if you are not very concerned about the clock/alarm function and consider it secondary then this is the ipod clock dock for you! The sound quality is impressive for such a small package and is ideal for a small office or lobby. If you are looking to wake up on time, I would look at other options.

I bought this for my son who liked it a lot, so I bought one for my daughter as well. I like the features (dimming light, weekend vs. weekday alarm, ability to choose alarm as iTouch or radio). The sound is very good. Well constructed and compact.
