-I can set up the alarm to wake up to my ipod, the radio (fm only), or a buzzer. The alarm gradually gets louder. You can have 2 different alarms (weekday/weekend). Also, if you like to fall asleep to your ipod and are worried that the volume will be too low to wake you up in the morning, you don't have to worry about that w/ this unit. The volume resets itself to a pretty loud level when your alarm goes off. This is one of my favorite thinga about the unit.
-the sound is pretty decent for the price and size of the unit. Volume settings are from 0-40. My bedroom is pretty big and I keep the volume at about 20-24 for my ipod and 10-15 for the radio (for some reason the volume sounds twice as loud for the radio).
-Setting the time and alarms is REALLY EASY! I didn't even have to look at the user's manual. This unit is very user friendly!!
-it comes with a remote however, it feels kinda cheap and you have to be kinda close to the unit for it to work. So if you have it next to your bed it's perfect. Make sure your ipod is properly docked for the remote to work.
-The background light is really bright, even on the dimmer setting. There are 3 settings but not a huge difference between the first 2 and the 3rd option is just to have it off.
-Overall, this is great if your main goal is to have an alarm clock. The sound is pretty decent but I wouldn't use it for a party or anything. It is good for a bedroom, kitchen, small office, etc. This is a good buy for the price. It is small but not too small, feels sturdy, and looks nice. Hope this helps!The first docking station I got was defective -I wasn't able to switch the alarm to wake to the radio or the iPod. "Beep" was my only option. I contacted Ottavo customer service via email, and got a very quick response--within a couple of hours. They were very helpful, and had me try a few things with the docking station to make sure it was actually a defective "wake to" button, which it was. As soon as it was determined the docking station was faulty, they immediately sent me a replacement at no charge.
The replacement docking station works perfectly. The sound is really good for such a reasonably-priced unit. I really like being able to adjust the bass and treble -a feature I wasn't expecting on something in this price range.
It's so nice to have this docking station and be able to charge my iPod while listening. Previously, to listen to my iPod at home, I had been connecting it to my Bose Wave radio I have in the kitchen, so I always had to remember to plug the iPod in and charge it before going to the gym or bringing it elsewhere. A couple of times I forgot and got to the gym with a dead iPod. No fun. I have to say, the sound from the Ottavo speakers is almost as good as the sound from the Bose Wave, which is something given the expense and hype surrounding the Bose system. Granted, my Bose is 10 years old now, but it cost over 10 times what I just paid for this Ottavo unit.
More than anything, I am impressed with Ottavo customer service. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Ottavo product, because they really stand behind their products. Each email I sent them got a friendly, helpful response within a couple of hours, and when it was determined I needed a replacement it was completely hassle-free.I wanted to get a replacement for another unit I had purchased and when I received this speaker station in the mail, I was annoyed to learn that the volume is set to 20 every time you turn on the unit. It means that if you want to turn it up or down, you have to readjust it with each power up. The settings on the clock's backlight are not very dim. In fact they are quite bright and I just shut the whole backlight off when I go to sleep. I think they can improve some technical features of this unit to make it more customizable.I bought this as a birthday gift for my daughter. She really likes it however the docking connector is rather touchy. Really have to push itouch on to get a connection for it to play music from the system. It has 2 alarm settings, a light control button and fairly easy to operate. She's a little disappointed the hard covers have to be taken off each time in order for the itouch to fit on the charging dock. I think this was a great buy for the price.

Very simple design is a big turn-off, cannot be compared with SONY, of course. However, this speaker packs a punch it is loud and very 4-star sound. My advise is that don't touch the iPod when it is plugged to the speaker it is quite frustrating to get it plugged properly. Batteries won't work well on this, but there is an adapter, which is nice! I'll give it 4.8/5.0
