THE SPEAKERS SOUND GREAT! Nice bass, and another advantage over the iHome iA5 is that the Philips has 2 speakers instead of just one! I almost didn't buy this radio because of the previous reviewer who said the speakers were "God awful". Well, I'm glad I didn't listen to HIS review! Be realistic, this IS an alarm clock, for use at your bedside. It is NOT a home entertainment system with big speakers that is going to be super loud. It doesn't need to perform like an iPod Boombox, or the sound system at a party, because it will be right next to your head! Buy with confidence!

I tried several alarm clock/docking stations and this was the best. I can fall asleep to white noise tracks on iPod and wake up to a different track from my iPod at a different volume setting. This is the only alarm clock in this price range that I could find with those capabilities. The sound quality is good, the display is not too bright and the unit is compact enough for my small night stand. It is also easy to keep clean.Read Best Reviews of Philips DC220/37 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Alarm Clock Speaker Dock Here
I'm thrilled with the quality of the sound on this clock radio. It has good FM radio reception. My iPhone 4 fit perfectly. The clock brightness can be dimmedvery important for me. The first time I docked my iPhone the clock set the time by itself by reading the iPhone.I also like the fact that I can always have two alarm settings one for weekdays and one for the weekend.
Want Philips DC220/37 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Alarm Clock Speaker Dock Discount?
I searched for a good iPod/iPhone clock radio for awhile. Most had the dock on top which I don't like on a nightstand since you could possibly knock the phone out if you reach across it during the night while charging/docked. The Philips has the dock in the front and the docking connector is spring loaded so it fits my iPhone WITH the case on...huge plus. There is a rubber bumper to keep the case from moving around if you're pressing on the phone display.Likes: Front dock connector, 3 brightness levels, High (good for daytime, too bright for night), Low (good for night, not too bright not too dim) and OFF. Nice to find a clock radio that can actually turn off the display if wanted. Small footprint, saves space and is out of the way. Clock is displayed in white not neon blue or some other bright color that you don't want glaring in your face all night. Graduwake slowly ramps up the sound and can be turned off. Sound is decent, wasn't expecting home theater sound but perfect for playing your playlist or listening to radio.
Dislikes: Small clock display. Not too big a deal since it's most likely going to be near your face if used in a bedroom. MAJOR FLAW: When using the wake to radio feature, the radio station is always displayed, over-riding the CLOCK. Very annoying when lying in bed and wondering how much time you have until you have to get up since you can't tell the time....from a clock. It doesn't appear this can be changed or turned off unless the radio is turned off and the clock returns. I would prefer there is at least a button that could be pressed to check time or give the user the option to show the clock or Philips had the display return to the clock and keep a small station ID in the corner. I know what radio station I'm listening to since I set it....I want to know the TIME. Also, not a big deal but like other reviewers stated the clock does not auto-synch/update when phone is docked. Not a huge issue since just hold the set time button for 3-4 seconds and it re-synchs quickly.
Despite the one major flaw, very well designed and easy to use. Would be nice if Philips designed an app to automatically play your own playlists instead of having to create a custom playlist. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a decently priced iPod/iPhone dock who can live with everything mentioned above.I purchased this dock over the summer as a way to tidy up my nightstand and to have an alarm dock for my iPhone. The dock works as advertised. As many other reviews have pointed out, it's not an audiophile's speaker system it's much better suited for spaces where good enough is good enough. I typically use it for late night music listening when I don't raise the volume too high as to not wake others in my house. That said, it's not priced as an audiophile's speaker dock.
Pros:
It has a rubberized "nub" behind the 30-pin connector that provides support on the rear of your iDevice. I had no problem transitioning using the dock with a 3GS nor a 4S.
Price is great.
Cons/Gripes:
The interface for the alarm isn't intuitive. Every time I want to set the alarm, I need to remember the button sequence.
The dock's time has run 2 minutes ahead of my phone. It's supposed to sync with the phone, but after the initial sync, it doesn't reset the time with the phone unless you force it. (Once again, with another non-intuitive button sequence.) You'd think they'd be able to make a modern digital clock that doesn't run fast.
