Edifier USA Tick Tock Dock for iPod/iPhone (Beige)

Edifier USA Tick Tock Dock for iPod/iPhone
  • Pivoting Apple iPod/iPhone dock
  • Front firing speaker driver and Omni-Directional Tweeters
  • LED display screen for FM/AUX/Time display
  • Auxiliary 3.5mm input jack for additional audio connectivity
  • FM radio function and Volume, track change, FM adjustment, Input selection buttons

I am buying my second clock and was taken aback to see the low ratings for this clock. I understood once I read the reviews why they didn't like the clock but I wouldn't pass this clock up.

Edifier makes good speakers. You have bought a good speaker that has a dock to charge your iPhone/iPod. Bonus it also has a clock for while you are not charging your device. Not only that but it has a line-in and a radio. I have never set the time on this clock, it syncs to the time from the iPhone. I have never set an alarm on this clock because I have a beautiful night clock app that lets me set the brightness, fall asleep to music, wake to music, snooze.... Or if I am tired of that I have a great app that does most of the same but has weather.

It is a nice clock alone but it is built around being a solid speaker for your iphone.

If you are looking for a cool little desktop or bedside radio, this iPod dock isn't bad.

It produces very nice, rich sound, in a small little package. The design is very compelling,

interesting, and fun. Its make almost completely out of plastic, and lacks that solid feel

of an iPhone, or stereo equipment.

My main complaint, and why I returned this, is because it's bad clock... as you can

see in the picture, you can't see the time when the iPod is in the dock.

Again, if you want a nice desktop/bedsite iPod dock to play back music. This is a great

little speaker. If you need an alarm clock... meh.

Got this as a gift looked good out of the box but in all honestly the programing of everything from alarms to ipod and radio is ridiculously backwards, counter-intuitive, frustrating and an exercise in futility. Selecting the mode from radio and ipod does not work as described in the manual, the sync function is a joke, buttons are poorly placed and mapped out (the same button to turn it on, also plays the radio, is your snooze and your ipod/iphone)and the lcd display is waaay to bright for sleeping. Apart from that it looks okay and sounds as expected. You don't want this unless you plan on spending 20-30mins trying to set the alarm and pressing buttons over and over again to see it if works.

Cute aesthetics but sadly the product did not work. When playing an iPod through it, the volume would rise and rise until unbearable, no matter what the volume was set at on the iPod. More annoyingly, the item made a strange ticking or crunching noise intermittently. The noise was unpredictable--when the radio was turned on, or when it was off; with an iPod charging, and without one present. I tried troubleshooting but there don't seem to be any solutions. Had to return it.

Schlage LiNK Wireless Keypad Add-on Deadbolt, Bright Brass

Schlage LiNK Wireless Keypad Add-on Deadbolt, Bright Brass
  • Receive email or text notifications
  • Install and set up the system with ease
  • Access your home from anywhere
  • Remotely monitor access to your home
  • Monthly subscription fee required for remote access

Schlage makes a plain version of this lock, without the "LiNK Wireless". It's a fine product in my opinion. But there is a problem converting it to a wireless product the door cannot be locked REMOTELY. It's a fundamental problem for a "remote" product, and Schlage chooses to skirt around the issue.

If you forget to lock your door, or you decide you want to lock it remotely, you're out of luck, unless a burglar is kind enough to turn the knob for you. The deadbolt cannot be thrown electronically. Instead, an electronic "clutch" is engaged, which then allows you to manually operate the deadbolt knob. When "Locked" the knob spins and accomplishes nothing. "Unlocked" means the knob is engaged (temporarily) so you can turn it and throw the deadbolt. It's a novel concept. But notice, that you can't throw the deadbolt unless somebody is there to turn the knob.

The advantage of this type of mechanism is battery life. The battery is not spent throwing the deadbolt. The real work is done by you turning the knob, therefore battery usage is minimized.

What gets me is Schlage's marketing. The product description on their website claims you can "remotely lock or unlock the door" It's simply not true.

You can't excuse this as an oversight, since it is paramount to their design. In fact, the electronic clutch is the single feature that distinguishes it from other electronic locks!

My advice is to try the regular version in one of the big box stores, they all have them on display. You will then understand how the lock functions and you can decide if it suits your needs. Personally, I like the lock, but find the wireless functionality useless. So why pay extra for it?

I installed these locks on my front and garage door a week ago and surprisingly it has been working flawlessly. I am using (Support Challenged) Micasa Verde Vera as Z-Wave gateway since it's too difficult for me to understand why to pay monthly costs to a service provider when I can do it for free with little or no learning but some patience. Here's my feedback and ovservation so far

Looks: Nice, I have brass and matches with other locks in the house from Schlage

Built: Typical Schlage good

Adding it to Z-wave network "With Vera": Easy enough but I have go through an upgrade and plug-in

Adding Codes: I can add codes "4 Digit" only with names including the ability to control the day and time when the code will be active example Maid Service or a Nanny who is about to retire. You cannot edit/modify the code but you can remove and re-add.

Lock/Unlock: From outside all you have to do is to enter your code, making sure, no one is watching with binoculars and you will hear a click and green LED. Turn the knob and it will open. To Close just hit the "Schlage" button after you turn the knob to lock. And yes it does not rotate the knob by itself like other model of Schlage but that is non-Zwave device. You can also use traditional keys to open or close. At night you can press the Schlage button first to illuminate the keys before entering the code helpful.

Battery and battery life: It comes with 3xAA and 1x9 Volt battery and advertized life is too long to believe but so far I did not see even 1% drop after a week's use.

Status and Remote Operation: You can always see the status of the lock as "Lock" or "Unlock" from any web-browser/iPhone etc. Operate it from anywhere to let someone in.

Notification: You can program using Zwave gateway to send you notification Via SMS/Email alert case a particular code is used OR wrong code is used.

Fun/Programming: Being Z-wave you can trigger several events when a particular code is used including but not limited to switching on lights case it's dark or start thermostat to cool/heat your home. Each of these events require additional hardware/device or a module.

Security: Schlage lock and your Z-wave gate will secure the transmission over RF (Radio Frequency) using encryption keys (digital keys something similar to when you access your bank over SSL/https web browser). This is from what I have read so far before purchasing and so far I am convinced that it is easier to find someone's keys under the doormat as compared to hacking the security of the lock with the exception of those binoculars or being careless to use easy numbers like 1234 (as my 5 year suggested me :-) for his code)

Elderly/Disabled: Terrific use to avoid going to the door to let someone in. Can combine with a motion sensor and an IP Camera to know who is at the door before clicking unlock.

Cons:

Not a motorized lock. Case you forget all you can do is to program Z-Wave gate to remind you that door is still unlocked

Incoming traffic is logged and you know when someone is coming in but there Is no way possible to know when someone leaves

One more thing in life to make you couch potato especially when you combine with a motion sensor and an IP Camera at your front door.

Hope you'll find what you're looking for. Additionally Kwickset also announced series of upcoming product based on this technology. Competition may bring the price down possibly.

So I bought this with the intention of NOT using the Schlage Z-Wave bridge to control it. I am glad I chose this route, because the Schlage Bridge has received very poor reviews regarding the limited Z-Wave device support for devices other than a select few Schlage chose to support.

What surprised me...

The lock is NOT motorized, so locking your door after you forgot to when you have left home is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN without someone there to turn the knob. You will have to turn the lock after you hear the knob engage (a soft but definite click will be heard). You will need to explain this to whoever is going to be the one using the deadbolt when you aren't home.

Ease of Physical Installation 5 out of 5 Installs almost like a typical deadbolt.

Ease of Keypad Programming 5 out of 5 Easy Instructions that a non technical person could follow.

My initial plan was/is to use this as a stand-alone keyless entry device. I bought this one because I plan to hook it up to allow remote access at some future point. At this time I can provide no comments on that part of the functionality.

Installation was as easy as advertised. Just popped the old deadbolt out and this one slid in. No more than 10 minutes and it worked first time with the factory programmed code. It was a pleasant surprise that all required batteries were included in the package.

The only negative I came across is that nowhere in the printed directions that come in the box does it tell you how to program the device to add new codes (or delete codes). I was installing this at a new vacation property and did not have easy access to the internet. I called the help line number found in the box and waited for about 10 minute before I got to a live person. The first offer of help was to email me the instruction sheets, but given that I did not want to read the directions on my BB, I had them walk me through adding a code over the phone. The actual process is fairly simple, my only complaint is that it would be nice if the instructions came in the box. I have since found them online and now have a copy.

Great quality lock!

Z-Wave allows me to program and monitor the lock activity remotely. Customizable pin codes allow you to identify who is entering the house or you can have your Z-Wave system send you a text message.

The lock is of very good quality and eliminates the need for a key. I started using combination locks when my children would come home and needed a key to get in. No more hiding a key or losing the key that was in the backpack.

I have a Vera2 system and am not using Schlage link. The Vera2 works well with the lock.

Digital Innovations 4100300 Plug-and-Play Speaker Dock for Android Smartphones - Retail Packaging -

Digital Innovations 4100300 Plug-and-Play Speaker Dock for Android Smartphones - Retail Packaging - BlackAfter my trusty JBL On Stage kicked the bucket, I was looking for something else to fill my needs for amplifying my phone, MP3 player or laptop. My main requirements were that it sound decent, be able to work off a 3.5mm jack, be small enough to be reasonably portable, and be able to get fairly loud.

In these respects, the Digital Innovations Android Docking Station has mostly met or exceeded expectations. I admit I'm a little wary of having the 3.5mm jack hard-wired in, as those thin cables and connections will often stop transmitting sound in a quality way, but too soon to borrow trouble on that count.

The sound quality, while I'm sure it isn't hi-fi, is perfectly decent, and certainly better than the output of my phone. And it gets nice and loud. I can hear it well in other rooms and should be able to hear it over the shower, which is one of the major requirements for me.

It is a bonus that this item is made to work with my Android phone, so there's no need to worry about losing power while listening to my podcasts or music. The Sonr labs app, which is still in beta, interacts perfectly with all of my music and podcasting programs, even ones that are not "recommended," such as my DoggCatcher podcast app.

In fact, it is via the Sonr app, that I've realized some unlooked-for benefits of using this device. The Sonr program allows me to control all my listening apps with a remote, so that I can control the volume, pause, mute, and even skip tracks. And my universal learning remote was able to pick up all these commands, so I don't have to worry about keeping up with the credit-card-sized remote the dock came with.

So far, my experience is limited, and I'll try and make sure to update this review if anything changes my opinion, but as of now, I'm looking forward to putting this sucker on my bedside table, and seeing if I can make it function as a decent clock radio!

ETA: Still very happy with the overall product. The power light, though, is REALLY BRIGHT, so it functions as a decent clock radio/really bright night light. Genius that I am, I solved this problem by placing a piece of electrical tape over the light, and I promise, I can still see the light through the tape! But at least it doesn't light up the room at night.

The Sonr app is still working okay, though a couple of times I've needed to uninstall and reinstall to get it working again. I also wish I didn't have to remember to exit the app in the AM, otherwise I can't get any sound to come out of my phone speaker. The joys of beta! :)

I received my speakers the other day and so far so good. The speakers have great quality for such a small package. In fact I was very impressed and surprised with the amount of sound that these produced. It is more than enough to fill my bedroom, adjoining loft, and bathroom with sound. I also like the fact that they take up little space on my nightstand. I must thank Digital Innovations for being one of the few companies that offers a speaker docking station for Android. Of the three options I found that could truly charge your Android phone while listen to music, this one seemed to fit my needs the best. The things that I liked about this product vs. the other products is that this product allows you to situate your phone horizontal AND vertical. Which means that when situated horizontally you can stream movies when using the speakers. The other two options did not allow for this if you had bottom connecting phone charger port. One of the options (Philips Fidelio) also did not receive good reviews with the android app that allows you to control the remote control which was also an important deciding factor for me. The last option (Samsung) is a relatively new high end product and is marketed out of my price range.

I haven't download the app to be able to use the remote for this product yet, but when I do, I'll try and remember to report back with an update of how things went.

A note to any manufacturer reading this review. I think that these speakers are a great start for a basic speaker dock for Android. However, it would nice to see a product that offers an internal rechargeable Lithium ion battery for speaker portability. It would also be nice to see various options for output power (10 watts, 30 watts, etc..). I am very surprised that manufactures are not keeping in mind that Android phones takes up the majority shares of smartphones on the market. I am also surprised that they haven't wanted to tap into a market with little to no competition.

One last thing. As far as the seller: shopcelldeals. A+++++++ Seller. They not only had the best pricing but they had extremely fast shipping. I received it 2 business days after ordering the product! Great job shopcelldeals.

I received this speaker dock as a gift. It works excellent with my Android Razr Maxx! I have had no problems with it at all. However, I have chosen not to download the app for the remote control instead I just use the volume control on my phone. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a nice, inexpensive speaker system for their office.

Haier "The Rise" Docking Station for iPod/iPhone

Haier 'The Rise' Docking Station for iPod/iPhone
  • Docking station charges iPod/iPhone
  • Integrated speaker
  • Includes Haier Rise App
  • Dual alarm clock, Touch screen FM control, Weather forecast, Internet radio

I recieved this as a gift for Christmas. Aside from depending on the docked phone to tell time, this is a simple and effective little dock. Ready to go out of the box, and it will even take you to the download the app in the Apple app store the first time you dock it. Sound is great too, no problems with that.

Now for the bad.

-The connector seems very flimsy, and no little dock adjusters were included to hold the phone in place without depending on the connector to support the phone. I'm always afraid the connector will snap off of the dock, or the port on my phone will be damaged. All of the iHome radios I have seen have included these adjusters in the box.

-Is it too much to ask for Haier to design an alarm clock app with an option to play an actual alarm (instead of music) when the alarm goes off?

-If you intend to use the app as an alarm clock, remember to not close out the app before going to sleep. If you close the app, the alarm will not go off when you want it to (unlike the clock app embedded in iOS). If Haier really wanted to make me happy, then fixing this one bug in the app would do it.

Overall I think you're better off buying the $55 iHome iP11 Spacesaver Alarm Clock for iPod and iPhone (Black) if you want a dedicated alarm clock/iPhone dock for the bedroom (but you give up sound quality). However this little unit looks nice on a desk so it should be alright if you only want to dock/charge your phone and listen to your music.

Buy Haier "The Rise" Docking Station for iPod/iPhone Now

Bought this on sale. This product was a great idea that is poorly implemented.

Pros:

* Small and compact

* Sounds OK for its size

* App works reasonably well

Cons:

* There is no Play/Pause button. If you have music playing and the app is running you have to leave the app to pause the music.

* Snooze / Dim button dims the display but does not set snooze when the alarm has gone off. Instead you have to press snooze on the iPhone.

* Radio starts playing randomly. The only way to get it to stop is to go to the app and stop it.

* Connector to the iPhone is flaky. If not plugged in exactly right you may not charge the phone or no sound will come out of the speaker.

Bottom line. I wanted to love the unit for its simple integration with the iPhone. However, it has too many technical problems. Have returned it to the store.

I bought this as a birthday present and tested it using a an iPhone 4S. The free Rise App is amazing on its own, and when docked allows you to use the built in radio which is really sensitive, and Shoutcast internet radio. I loved the app because it also shows the weather which is something my girlfriend really wants to know every morning. It will wake you to ipod songs, but I am not sure it will wake you to radio as I have not been able to figure that out yet. There is no buzzer either.

The Bad:

Even though it claims 3G compatibility, when you plug one in a message pops up that says "This iphone is not compatible with this accessory and may cause interference... blah blah." And the radio and button features simply don't work. I am going to upgrade the 3G to os5 tonight and see if that fixes the problem.

Bottom line, it has a lot of great features for the price and you can always just download the Rise app and enjoy it for free as a standalone without the radio function.

Sony MHC-EC99i Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Integrated iPod Dock 530W

Sony MHC-EC99i Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Integrated iPod Dock 530W
  • iPod ready that will charge, play and control
  • Integrated iPod dock and dedicated iPod button
  • Single disc CD player with CD-R/RW and PM3 playback
  • AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets
  • Remote control with full iPod menu control

After I came home from 5 months in Australia to find my Aiwa stereo not working I knew it was time to buy new audio equipment for my room. I like the idea of a shelf system so I began looking for one that was 10 years newer and fit my preferences. I went the stereo route because I wanted a radio and CD player and ultimately a tape deck, although this unit does not have one. I had read several reviews of this model and went into the store (BJ's Wholesale Club of all places) to test it out. Bringing my iPod, I was thoroughly impressed. I went back the next day and purchased this bad boy.

The stereo comes in a huge box but is managable. I was surprised to find the unit overall is very light-weight and set up is easy. Once I finally had it set up, I was immediately impressed with the stellar sound. This thing is LOUD. You get crisp highs, balanced mids, and thumping lows thanks to the additional subwoofer it comes with. I don't think I've heard an iPod sound as good as it does with this unit. As I have read previously, the speaker cords are a bit short. The satellite speakers are fine, but how is a subwoofer expected to be placed on the floor as I want it with such relatively short cords? I'm planning to get some additional cord so I can place the speakers where I want.

I'm very happy with this system and being a bit picky about my audio sound has proven to help me find a great stereo. All kinds of music sound great, from thumping hip hop to reggae to accoustic rock.

This thing is also pretty sleek looking, being a metallic black, modern looking, and light blue accents in the speakers.

Why not a 5?

-Short cord length

-Small display which is hard to see from far away

-No custom EQ, although "rock" mode sounds best

-No tape deck. I admit tapes are out-dated but it would be nice to have the capability to play them

Overall VERY happy with my purchase and definitely recommend this system to and audiophile who wants to pack some punch into his/her audio system.

Buy Sony MHC-EC99i Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Integrated iPod Dock 530W Now

I would rate this at more like 4.5 stars, though for the price it is definitely amazing.

Pros:

Plenty loud (esp. for a college dorm)

Fairly rugged though i wish the ipod dock was made slightly heavier duty, though i have no problems

Good bass

Cheap price

quick shipping from amazon

Cons:

Only one cd tray

no custom equalizer or manual bass adjustment

I wish it had more options and buttons for some features

wires to the speakers are not that long, nor is the power plug cord

no av jacks

I would recommend this product, especially for the price (160 is a steal). It has been holding up well to loud music for long periods of time and no audio defects or problems so far.

Purchased this last week and I'm quite impressed. Full sound and perfect compatability with my Ipod. I'm not usually a Sony audio fan however I don't think you'll find a better unit for this price.

Want Sony MHC-EC99i Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Integrated iPod Dock 530W Discount?

System has decent sound, but some quirks: Odd speaker wiring, 4 wires to each speaker saves Sony $$ on crossover design but you can't upgrade speakers. Antenna is a 3 pin plug, can't upgrade with 3rd party antenna, and reception is only average with included antenna. CD unit on top (can't set anything on top of unit), but not a simple drop inslide out tray instead. Few buttons on the main unit, many only on remote (time/alarm/station presetting) so don't lose that sucker! Remote controls the iPod too but unless you can read your iPod display from a distance, only usefulfor skipping and rewinding songs. On the plus side, it's one of the few mini systems with subwooferbut the Sony only quirksspeaker wiring, antenna, remote functions mean you have to live with the system as is.

This Stereo has Good Sound & BASS. I use it as a sound Output for my TV via the PC pulg & it WORK Great. Lots of Sound from the 580W & the Sub-wOOfer Thumps but you have to have it Loud. I have NOT tried the iPod dock. But even Though this SYSTEM ROCKS when you CRANCK it UP!!!

Fluance High Performance 2.1 Wood Tower Speaker Dock for iPod/iPhone - FiTSD600

Fluance High Performance 2.1 Wood Tower Speaker Dock for iPod/iPhone - FiTSD600
  • High fidelity sound quality resulting in clean, undistorted bass, a clear midrange, and transparent natural highs at any volume level.
  • Premium components ensure serious performance and natural sound; FM Radio Tuner with built-in alarm clock
  • Front-firing 6.5 inch subwoofer designed to achieve maximum low-frequency effect for a heart-pounding bass performance.
  • High definition dual 3 inch midrange drivers for broader, dynamic range; Superior dual 0.8 inch tweeters for vibrant, high-frequency response
  • Audio grade MDF wood construction reduces cabinet resonance and increases warmth

I have reviewed over a dozen ipod docks, and many of them have been quite good. Docks by Bose (Soundlink), Altec Lansing (like the IMT 810) Logitech (715i), and Philips (he Fidelio Series) all have some nice sounding products. However, none of them, are even close, to the the Fluance FiTSD600. You can see it, to some extent, in the video review but this speaker has fantastic sound.

The Fluance Tower is big.... it is about 4 feet tall and weighs about 35lbs (15Kg), so it does take up a fair amount of room. In fact, it is large enough that it may be too large for a standard dorm room. It also delivers with power a 36 watt amplifier is able to provide plenty of volume and it has the power to deliver solid and crisp bass.

Notes -

While it sounds great right out of the box allowing the speaker to break-in for about 20-30hours will help bring out a little more overall depth.

Great look the solid wood case adds to the weight (not that weight is a matter) and gives the speaker a very classy look. The speaker has the finish of a glossy black grand piano.

Sound again, to me, this is clearly the best sounding iPod dock on the market. The speaker is neither punchy or bright, but it offers plenty of bass and a very clean frequency response all the way to top of the frequency response.

AM and FM Radio The Fluance FiTSD600 has a built in tuner. It doesn't seem like much, but I do enjoy have a built in tuner built into the dock. You also have the ability to save favorite channels.

-Display I like the fact the display can be dimmed. Again, it may not seem like much, unless you are playing music at night.

Has a sleep mode

Has adjustments for bass and treble

I have used the speaker with an 3G iPod Touch, a 3G iPhone, and 4G iPhone. The speaker comes with a series of adapters although I have not had the need to use any of them.

Since the plug is the old iPod/iPhone standard the FiTSD600 will not work with 5th Generation iPhone without an adapter.

Does not have Bluetooth capability. I would have preferred for it to have Bluetooth, but it is far from a deal killer.

Final Verdict A fantastic speaker a very easy recommendation.

Please Note I did receive this product for reviewing purposes, but it had no impact on my review.

I have been searching & searching for an ipod dock for a year unable to make a decision. I own a smaller ipod dock the Altec lansing inMotion IM7 which has always sounded phenominal for the size. Anyone who has ever heard my IM7 was blown away so now how could i find a tower dock that could beat it.I went from store to store looking at the Craig, the pyle, the sharper image tower and other similar products but was not really impressed with the quality. After finally checking out the Fluance tower with its beautiful high gloss black piano finish i was smitten. The build was heavy duty and the componants "speakers" seemed a step above the competition. The interface between remote and tower is simple and the remote mimicks the ipod functionality pretty much effortlessly. The sound was really nice and even though my Altec lansing sounded phenominal this sounded sweeter with the dual 1" soft dome tweeters, dual 3" midbases and 6.5" sub. There are connection on the back that lets you hook this up to literally any componant you desire to augment it with great sound. The only slight problem was that Fluance changed the remote so programming the tuner presets was a bit confusing when it askes to push the "mem" button which is now the "radio preset" button. Other then that i bought a refurbished unit directly from Fluance and saved $100 am will highly recommend this to anyone. Oh Fluance service was very helpful and on the ball when i emailed them about the remote "mem" button i got help asap.

I bought this item on Amazon. I had great expectations from this speaker system and boy were those expectations met. I used my ipod 5.5 generation to listen to this tower and the sound was just simply amazing. I mainly play alternative 80s rock and I love listening to clear crisp sound with a nice punch of base... and this speaker definitely has all of what i wanted. I cranked up the volume and was floored by the great sound..the walls were actually shaking in my 500 sq ft living room/dining room. I almost never do reviews but I am so happy with this purchase that I had to let people know!.. if you dont mind dishing out $350 for it.. I would highly recommend it. Its that good.!! 5 stars easy!! By far the Best tower I looked at. im so glad I listened to the other recommendations. For the price your not going to get a better sounding ipod tower! !

Great overall emergency radio. Read many reviews that indicated poor reception which almost prevented me from buying. Once purchased I tried the radio and was disappointed with the poor reception. Almost seemed like it was running low on batteries even though new ones were just put in. I learned that the multi-function knob (see manual) was set on "Alert". This seems to be a low power savings mode. Once I selected any other setting including "Off" the radio's reception was excellent (the radio is turned on via a different knob / see manual). I bought it at Radio Shack since it was on sale for $69. Radio Shack's site forgot to add that this radio also has Short Wave which is a plus in emergencies.

I should have paid more attention to the online owners manual before I made the purchase. If you plan on using this radio for leaving in your basement or trunk in case of an emergency then I highly recommend it, for this purpose I would give it 5 star,s have no gripes in that category.

My purpose for it however was for a "ruffing it" 7 day bike trip in order to stay informed of news/weather and also keep my cell phone charged. Before I left I charged the unit in full by the usb port and supplemented it by leaving the solar panel exposed out of my pack so that it would charge as I rode. I found that on very sunny days in the second week of august in upstate ny, that although it would slow charge the battery it was hardly enough to keep up with listening to it for a couple hours a day total. Listening to it "live" off of the solar panel was nearly impossible even at noon in the direct sunlight.

As for charging a cell, it works great by cranking for emergency calls only, if you try to charge it for extended phone calls you will go crazy. Solar again even at noon was not enough to charge an LG10000, would click back and forth between charging and not and seemed to drain it more than charge it.

The solar panel needs to be much larger but otherwise the unit did what it was supposed to, but don't expect miracles from it. If you need significant power for long periods of time consider another for more solar/kinetic charging.

I have had no problems with reception, even in the sticks. I really like the added solar feature which compliments the crank function nicely. Mostly robust, though some of the knobs feel weak, particularly the "mode" knob. Excellent backlight for the frequency/clock LCD display, easy tuning, plenty of bands to select from, and the built-in USB charger is a GIANT bonus. I now own six quality Eton products, and this one is *easily* my favorite. A directional antenna vs. the current vertical-only telescopic antenna would have been a nice touch.

The FR500 radio is as much or more than I expected, will be used for weather conditions as well as very good AM/FM news, and some SW as conditions allow.

Seems like would play forever out in the sun or with bright sky what with the very good Solar cell.

I'll give this radio 2 stars for some good features, however I'm returning it since it will not charge my iPhone, the main reason for which I ordered this item. I listed below other flaws I found:

On the PLUS side:

*good looks and appears durable.

*solar and crank recharging, an internal rechargeable Lithium battery (included); accepts 3 AA batteries (not included).

*nice bright LED flashlight.

*loud alarm and red flasher for emergencies (however both cannot be on at the same time)

*full digital clock with alarm, snooze, and back lighting.

On the NEGATIVE side:

*will not charge an iPhone; I tested other phones and they charged OK; I assume this problem applies to the iPod as well(?); Eton customer service says the iPhone USB charging is a known issue.

*radio reception is extremely substandard; I've had similar crank radios which were much cheaper and had excellent radio reception.

*radio tuning knob sensitivity is very poor and terribly clumsy.

*will only charge a phone while the radio is sitting directly under sun or while being cranked not very practical.

*AC/DC charger not included though sold separately.

*must have a phone which charges via USB using its own cable, otherwise need to request an adapter from Eton (for free) and wait for it to be delivered; not sure if Eton will offer more than one adapter per customer you likely have more than one type of phone in your household, requiring different adapters.

SPI® Wireless Shower Speakers with Anti-Fog Mirror

SPIĀ® Wireless Shower Speakers with Anti-Fog Mirror
  • Two stereo speakers
  • Includes FM radio, an LCA clock, and a fog-free mirror
  • hardware included for mounting
  • Works up to 30' away
  • Requires 7 AAA batteries, not included

SPI® Wireless Shower Speakers with Anti-Fog Mirror We just received our SPI and we have to return it... You are supposed to be able to either play the radio or your ipod/audio device, but only the radio sort of works (the stations drift away or into each other). And you can't even tell which radio station is playing because the unit doesn't display it. As for the transmitter it doesn't work at all with both antenae fully extended, both units on, and volume turned up on the audio device and on the SPI. You get lots of static when you plug in the audio cable (and only when you're standing right next to it), but then nothing. There is no mode switch between external audio and radio, so when the transmitter is on, audio cable plugged in and your audio device is playing, the radio shuts off like it's trying to get the signal, but it doesn't play. Finally, the transmitter is equipped with a DC converter jack, but no DC converter is included and the manual doesn't give an option to order one. We tried calling their tech support number during their business hours several times, but each time we get a recorded message that their call volume is excessive and there are no lines available to hold on, and that we need to call back at a later time. Too bad, nice idea but poorly implemented.

This product could've been great, but there's some massive design flaws. The biggest of which is that you can not manually tune the radio! When you turn it on it starts at 87.9 FM and then you have to keep pressing "Scan" to climb your way up the frequency ladder, which is extremely time consuming. The wireless gets great range, but the frequency drifts! Very annoying! The only thing that turned out well for this product was that the mirror doesn't fog. I'm currently looking for a good shower wireless radio. If you know of one let me know!

I love this unit, I read the other comments and can agree that it leaves a bit to be desired when using the radio....But I don't use it for that ever, I either use my iPod or laptop with iTunes and it works perfectly. It doesn't wander off station and the sound quality is great. ....So it's 5 Stars from me.

crap crap crap speakers suck wireless transmiter sucks station tuner sucks mirror sucks and fogs its warped piece of junk wouldnt get if it was free what happened to pride in your products i would be embarassed to sell crap like this

I bought this unit 3 years ago. Tuning is a pain, but the radio and wireless antenna are still working great. The clock stopped working about a year ago from water damage due to a fall and crack. In 3 years I have only replaced the batteries once and that was shortly after I got it. Granted you are not going to get amazing sound quality out of this little unit, but you can hear it well over the shower and ambient noise. I don't have many issues with the mirror fogging out, but this is all dependent on bathroom ventilation, where you live, and so on. Other than tuning this little thing has been an amazing shower companion for me.

La Crosse Technology WS-9611U-IT Wireless Sun/Moon Forecast Station with Oscar Outlook

La Crosse Technology WS-9611U-IT Wireless Sun/Moon Forecast Station with Oscar OutlookI bought it in February 09'. After two months' use, the display was dead. I thought it was the batteries. So I replaced all the batteries. The display beeped once and then nothing. Same thing when I tried at least 3 types of alkaline batteries as recommended. As other reviewer mentioned, La Crosse has ZERO customer servce.

1)I contacted them using their online Contact Custome Service form in early May.

2)Having hearding nothing from them, I sent a email on June 10. An email came on June 12 with the typical Battery instructions despite the detailed problem description in my email. It also asked for the purchase info that I already sent in the previous email.

3)Anyway, I resent all the info requested on the same day, June 12. And guess what, nothing happened after that.

It's 10 days now after I sent the last email. My patience ran out. So I filed a complaint with BBB. And I strongly encourage any one who have similr problems with La Crosse to do the same. We can't just let them sell faulty products and ignore the customers.

Update: My case with BBB was closed as UNRESOLVED due to NO RESPONSE from La Crosse. Now La Crosse has the lowest rating of F in BBB system. Check it out before you buy!

First off, this thing works. Second, I am kind of sorry I didn't find money to buy even more options. But for the price I am thoroughly delighted with a working outdoor sensor giving me current temperature and an inside thermometer/humidity reading. The little man icon is kind of icing on the cake. Calendar and sunrise are nice. It's a compact worthy desktop addition. My first go-round with setting it up was clumsy. Then when I had fresh new batteries in hand I decided to change to fresh (supposedly will last a year) and reset the station. The second go-round went much smoother and I suspect any problems I had with originally setting up the station were my own problems, not the unit. My recommendation is to buy this one if you want an economical weather station that works. But if you can afford more options, go for one that provides temps, humidity and perhaps a heat/chill index for outside. I'm saving up and looking for such a unit now.

I started up this little baby on 12/31 (the timing stands out in my mind) and TWO WEEKS LATER and the outside transmitter is dead. The set itself still works fine, except the whole point of it (for me anyway) is to know the outside temp. I loved the guy who would tell me how to dress, and enjoyed the moon phases and sun rise/set. But others have complained about that outside transmitter too... I wish I'd bought something else. I had one for YEARS that was just a simple wire from (a different) station which you could place out the window. Should have gone old-school, apparently. I'm very, very disappointed and suggest you look elsewhere so you aren't disappointed too.

UPDATE 7/2010. Some have asked me if I ever did anything about the warranty, so I thought I should give a quick update. I returned the product to Amazon (easy exchange) and got a new one. This time I used lithium batteries and kept the sensor more protected outside (basically it's protected on three sides and is never in direct sunlight or exposed to snow). I don't think I'm getting a fully accurate reading but at least it WORKS. Being in southern New England we can go from 100 degrees to below 0. It may not be 100% accurate, but it's working. Would I get it again? No. But maybe my expectations were too high. Buyer beware.

We purchased this item for our kids. The weather in Northern CO is often surprising, and I would always provide them with a "what to wear" recommendation when I wake them up in the mornings. I've installed this in their bathroom and NOW, while brushing their teeth they consult with the "weather boy" for how to dress for the day. I've also printed out a larger copy of the "outfits" that "weather boy" wears so that they can look on the back of the door to de-code the iconic clothing and symbols.

It's fun and our 6 year old tells us; "weather-boy hasn't lied to me yet!"

I'd rate it a 5 star if it were larger...

I got this weather station for my kitchen as I had bought 2 similiar ones for Christmas presents and I liked them. Aside from the indoor/outdoor temps it also tells indoor humidity, date, time, what time the sun rises and what quarter the moon is in! I love the little boy who either dresses warmer or with less clothing as the temperature goes up or down. If it's going to snow, he has snowflakes around him and if it's sunny he has the sun over his shoulder---so you get the weather in a 'picture' as well. It's a lot of information in a small space. Love it.

The reception isn't very good. I had been using a "cheap" $15 model I'd bought at Best Buy. The reason I wanted to replace it was because the reception wasn't good...lots of static no matter where I put it in the bathroom, even by an open window. Well I went up quite a bit in price and picked a really good brand but am having same problems. Not very good reception, lots of static. But it will have to do for now. Eventually I'll find one that works well!

I have bought three other shower radios. This was the best. The others had one station that would come in. Even then it would fade. I am very happy with this.
