RCA RS2696i CD Audio System with Dock for iPod

RCA RS2696i CD Audio System with Dock for iPod
  • Sound system with iPod dock, CD player, audio line-in, and digital AM/FM radio
  • 100W total power - full range speakers
  • Universal dock for iPod - plays and charges iPod while docked
  • Clock/Timer function ? wake to Radio, CD, or iPod
  • Backlit display - blue LCD

I have had this system for a month now and I think it's great. I purchased a Sony ModelHCB-BX201 system a little over a year ago, which cost 40$ more than this RCA & the Sony is no where near as good in my opinion. If I have flourescent lights on I get static & interference with the Sony but not with the RCA I also have under the cabinet lights which creates a buzzing sound on the Sony but not the RCA.When I first set the Rca up my wife was in another room & she remarked how much better the Rca sounded than the Sony. All of this was done in the same place & room,so it was an apples to apples comparison. I took the Sony & put out in the garage where it won't be used as often. Both systems were purchased from Amazon, of which I have no complaints with, they only sell the product, they don't make it. I would definitely recommend the RCA. I have an RCA tv which I purchased in 1995 & it still has a great picture & knock on wood I have not spent a penny on repairs since I bought it.

I looked all over... but stopped looking when I found this because it was the ONLY unit on the market that gave me all of the features that I wanted and at a great price. I was NOT disappointed.

100W is plenty to power a party in the average size living room/kitchen area. The sound is clear and reasonably true (not tinny or boxy or like listening to a car radio). The notes in all ranges come across well. Also: It has a good remote control that works at a fair distance, the iPod plays and charges while docked, the clock has a timer function & wake to Radio, CD, or iPod. Tne unit also has 5 equalizer settings for different types of music.

The iPod dock works extremely well and this unit also has an input jack in case you have some other type of MP3 player or want to use another external source. It also has a headphone jack; which is great for use in a bedroom, dorm room or home office. Don't be fooled by the picture that makes it look like your iPod will sit in front of the control knob. That is actually a rocker switch and easily accessed with the iPod in place.

Sound is equally great from the iPod dock, CD player, audio line-in, and digital AM/FM radio. The unit comes with an AM loop antenna (for anyone who still listens to AM) and an FM antenna (a long wire). This unit is pretty good at tuning in and holding weaker FM stations in my area.

So, are there any cons? Well, yes. The blue LCD screen, which is your clock, is hard to read from an angle and the backlight that activates when the power comes on makes the display harder to read, not easier. The speaker wires are small gauge and look like they could break if the unit was knocked off the shelf (that's just my perception, not a fact). It would have been nice if the buttons were illuminated; they are a little hard to see if the unit is placed in a dark corner. My son overcomes that problem by using the remote control that comes with it instead of the buttons on the unit itself. Some may think the remote control, which is barely larger than a credit card, to be too small (easy to misplace) although the buttons are good sized and work well. Despite the 5 preset equalizer selections, the unit is a little heavier on the bass than other units on the market. Still, I'm a mid-range guy but the bass level doesn't bother me.

The unit case is made of heavy plastic and it feels solid, not cheap. I cannot speak to duribility yet because I have only had the unit a month... but so far so good.

As to the other reviews for this unit here on Amazon... The guy who did the one star review must have been reviewing the wrong model. His complaints were: it's not powerful (but it is), it has no audio input jack (which it does), and the bass was weak (the bass is a little excessive). The guys who made the 2 and 3 star reviews had no complaints about the unit so I don't understand their ratings. Okay, complete audiophiles may want to spend hundreds more for specific performance and are willing to berate this model, but for the rest of the world, this is the one to buy.

The bottom line is that I checked out several similar units and the only one that beat out this one in my opinion (more even sound balance across tthe entire treble/base spectrum) would have cost me 4 times what I paid for this one. All of the cons that I have listed here together might drop my rating to 4-3/4 stars if that were possible, but 5 stars is fine with me. That pretty much says it. I'd buy this again and I recommend it to you.

I bought this through Amazon.com because I found the best price there.

I bought this for my mother after spending some time researching shelf systems that have (1) a radio, (2) a CD player, and (3) an auxiliary input. Both of us were blown away by the quality of the sound. It's rich and crisp, with a surprising amount of bass. Think it isn't powerful enough? Then I suggest having your hearing checked, because this system easily fills the entire 2 bedroom w/basement house by a wide margin. It's probably capable of filling most houses. There are several EQ presets that are probably more than enough customization for the vast majority of people. I don't think there is too much bass as another reviewer mentioned, and I don't like an excessive amount. The styling is nice and the compact remote is a nice feature. The headphone jack is appreciated. The only improvements I can think of are a customizable EQ and a method of latching the speakers to the main unit for easier portability, but those are both nearly negligible. In a market that seems to have shrinked considerably this is a welcome product. Now if only something like it was still made in the USA.

Radio system has plenty of sound for the price fills my whole condo if turned up. Speaker wires aren't as good as expected. Wish buttons were alittle bigger or illuminated. Use this in bedroom at nite with headphones so won't wake others.

For the money it is a great product so far.(2 months)

This system is loud in a small room, but its not what I would consider "powerful" by any means.

CD player has been decent, but some CDs that are made on a computer skip from time to time.

Ipod doc would not work with iphone 4...I'm assuming a basic ipod would work which is a nice feature.

The remote is small but works from a good distance away.

Radio is decent depending on the channel.

Overall it's a decent product, it doesn't feel very sturdy, but for the price, it's what I expected. For a little more money, you probably get a lot more stereo.

TEAC MC-DX22I Ultra-thin Hi-fi System for iPod

TEAC MC-DX22I Ultra-thin Hi-fi System for iPod
  • Vertical CD Drive Unit
  • Supports CD and CD-R/RW disc formats / Reads MP3 CDs
  • Motorized CD Door
  • 20-selection Random Memory Program
  • Repeat (One/All), Shuffle Play

I purchased this system because I was looking in particular for a compact stero with a built in iPod dock. This compact stero has that, with good functionality and a decent sound thanks to its' included subwoofer. However I only gave it three stars based on a couple of factors that were frankly mentioned in other reviews. First of all the remote is thick and heavy, and needs to be pointed directly at the system or it will not be sensed. The biggest criticism however has to do with the display it is so faint that it cannot be read at any angle except if viewed straight on. TEAC must have been aware of this because I saw an identical unit at Costco last week with a much more easily seen black LCD display.

We absolutely love this stereo. We got one last year (without the iPod capability), and the the sound is phenomenal considering the size. We did a little creative wiring and hooked it up to the TiVo unit and have a mini sound system in our bedroom. Since it only has an auxilary input and not a "Left" and "Right" cable, we had to put a splitters that separate the left and right and plug that into the TiVo unit. That was pretty simple and you can't get better sound that that for the price and size.

Of course, you don't have the ability to fully take advantage of all the iPod features. The basic capability to shuffle, repeat, fast forward, and rewind is still there. Most people would only really need these features. I do have to say it looks pretty slick with our black iPod video.

My two complaints:

1.) The display of the stereo is much, much harder to see than the previous models. Basically, if it is at an angle (especially if it is higher than your line of sight), the screen looks blank. We have to go by the blue glowing around the iPod controller to see if it is on or just listen for some sound. While our previous one was a little annoying because the display was bright at night even when off, this is even more annoying. Of course, all the display tells you is the volume, the mode, and the time. None of which are especially important if you don't switch from one thing to another a lot.

2.) We also have a little trouble with the remote. We have put our system on top of the chest of drawers by the TV and since it is elevated, we have to hold the remote up in the air to turn the volume up. This isn't always the case, but is most of the time. Since you can't see the display too well, then it is sometimes hard to tell if you are turning the volume up or not.

Basically, if you need a countertop stereo system or a small one to put in an office, this one is awesome! If you are going to put it on an elevated surface like a chest of drawers, on a higher shelf, or up high on a bookshelf, I would keep the two complaints in mind. Of course, knowing those two, I would have still bought it. Even though I had some complaints about it, I still gave it 5 stars which I only do if I love a product (like the Mac, Dyson, iPod excluding shuffle , and the Teac Micro systems).

I set this stereo up in my son's play room so that we could have music playing throughout the day on the ipod and I love it. The sound is amazing. At 2 1/2 he can't appreciate it, but I do. I really wanted a stereo that would play an ipod as well as MP3's on a CD. I tried a couple of others and they didn't sound very good. This was a little more expensive, but over time the sound is worth it. I'm a little concerned that the CD player is a little sensitive to bumps and the remote seems to have to point directly at the sensor to work. But otherwise I haven't had any problems.

It worked great for 3 months. display would fade in and out when turning on. I should have bought an extended warrenty.

I was dissapointed with TEAC because they used to be high quality equipment. I purchased the system 3 years ago and still hope that

one day the display would work again. I bought a BOSS system since and been satisfied with sound and remote and display.

This is a great mp3 player/clock radio. It sounds good for its size and does exactly what you want it to do.

Only down side is the remote is really needed as not all the functions are on the console. Still, this does not detract much from it.

I would get another if needed.

well just installed one of these units two days ago. easy enough. loved the fact that it has both front and rear rca amp connections, plus rca subwoofer connection. adjustment are plenty for getting great sound. the illumination feature is a real bonus, being able to dim the illumination when switching on your parking lights is nice. my wife unit is a couple models down from mine and the first thing i had to do is set the dimmer to low so she could see the road at night, ofcourse that means its dim during the day also, so that is a great feature on the newer units. the only complaint i have is the way the faceplate reattaches. taking it off is easy enough but putting it back on requires a steady hand and concentration. where i live its hitting 120 degrees so removing it during the day is pretty much a must. when temps get better ill be leaving it on. for whatever reason they decided to redesign the faceplate i dont know. all and all im pleased with this unit so far. i would deduct one star for the faceplate removal and install be feel that would be fair. maybe after a month or so it will come natural to me on installing it.

La Crosse Technology WS-8115U-S Digital Wall Clock with Indoor and Outdoor Temperature

La Crosse Technology WS-8115U-S Digital Wall Clock with Indoor and Outdoor TemperatureI've had a lot of Digital clocks from LaCrosse Technology and have always been happy with them. This model like the others did what it is supposed to do for 3 months when the interior temp stopped working. First time I have ever needed customer support from LaCrosse Technology prior to this problem. It turns out that they have NO customer service. I used their website and wrote them. It took them over a week to reply with a list of trouble shooting items. I went through the list and wrote bak to them. That was 2 weeks ago and still no reply. What good is a warranty if the company does not stand behind their product????

I will never buy another product from LaCrosse Technology

Pros: Attractive display, very large numbers on clock, shows the info I wanted and nothing else.

Cons: Remote sensor doesn't work reliably even from short distances through frame construction (less than 15 feet), reset process is much more cumbersome than other brands I have used.

Don't buy this if you want a remote sensor that works reliably.

Ordered this because I wanted to be able to monitor outdoor temps where I live. I often check things through online weather servers but those do not tell me what the temperature is at my home. Setting it is easy as long as you read the instructions. Other reviewers on other models of this type of product remark on that, but as long as you follow the directions you're fine. Mounting the outdoor receiver was a little tricky, but only because I live in a place with no wood or masonry on the outside. I finally found a space on my porch out of the weather to mount it. I used some industrial strength velcro I purchased from a third party so I can take it down easily. We'll see how it holds up to 50 below weather.

Took a night to adjust to the radio time. Once I figured out how to set the time zone, its accurate. (You have to set the date yourself. No big deal.)

Temperature reads within three degrees of what my computer tells me. I'm ok with that. Probably the heat of the house making the difference. The only thing is it takes a little while for it to read changes in the temp. When I first put it outside it took about an hr for it to adjust to the actual temperature. I thought that a little odd.

Cosmetically, this is attractive. You know that you're getting something thats going to be modern looking. I just wish that the face could be seen from more angles, but again, its what I expected. Right now I am actually using it on a counter instead of mounted to a wall. It has little flip out tabs for doing so (they are pretty flimsy though.) Also there are settings on the back for snooze and an alarm but i think these are like a vestigial tail, poorly located and near inaccesible if you were actually going to use this for an alarm clock.

I purchased this clock because I have 2 other clocks (one is with all the weather sensors / information) from La Crosse Technology and they worked great. In this purchase of WS-8115U-T, I received a defective unit and my experience trying to get it fixed differed greatly between Amazon.com and La Crosse. Amazon.com got an A+ and La Crosse got a D.

This clock broke within 1.5 month of the purchase where the top line / segment of the digit display disappeared "O" displayed like a "U". I changed batteries and tried to reset it without success in fixing the problem. Because it exceeded Amazon's return period, I contacted La Crosse. First, I had to send them a USPS mail because I could not find an email address in their website (very difficult to navigate). Then, the La Crosse customer service sent me a letter told me the obvious about changing the batteries. Lastly, they gave me a 2 pages of instructions on returning the clock a real complicate and hassle process with a lot of disclaimers from them protecting themselves.

A bit discourage about following these instructions like "put a protective cover on the screen" and what they don't responsible for, I contacted Amazon.com via email... almost within 24 hours, Amazon.com responded with an "exception" ruling (extended the return period) and automatically sent me a replacement unit and a label for return. My replacement clock arrived within few days and the replacement worked fine. Talking about exceeding my expectation, Amazon.com did just that. I know that Amazon will charge me again if I don't return the old one but they made the whole replacement process SO SIMPLE and EFFORTLESS.

I always think that a seller is best judged how they respond to you when you need them... In this case, Amazon.com is a keeper and La Crosse showed its lack of understanding on customer servicing and a loser. Buy from Amazon and don't buy La Crosse.

I purchased two of these clocks to replace existing units which were old and had a good lifespan but finally failed. One of the new clocks works perfectly. It's still running on its original batteries and keeps time perfectly. The temperature sensors are also very accurate. The other clock has had issues since day one. It's eaten through multiple brands of batteries (Duracell, Energizer, Kirkland, etc.) and multiple types. I have been extremely frustrated and disappointed with LaCrosse Technologies customer support. Despite giving them these details, they continue to insist on receiving more and more information and will not issue an RMA number without elaborate steps of taking multiple battery voltage meter readings, etc. despite being well within the warranty period. This appears to be a blatant attempt to absolve them from having to handle the warranty claim. If the company stood behind it's products, I would fully recommend their products since I have been a satisfied customer for many years and many models of their products. In fact, I truly like their products and have always been a big fan of the quality they produce. I can not however recommend purchasing their products at this time knowing that they will not stand behind what they sell when it doesn't work as intended.

Timex T117B Travel Alarm Clock with Flashlight
  • Travel alarm operates on 4 AAA batteries
  • Built in flashlight
  • 24 hour Set and Forget alarm with auto repeat and auto shutoff
  • Simple ?Twist2Set? rotary clock and alarm setting controls
  • Momentary INDIGLO® display for nighttime viewing

Unfortunately, this product was a great disappointment. This is why I don't like it:

1. You can not read the display unless it is 2 feet below eye level. Thats right! You can not simple look at the display head on or when it is above eye level and read it. Who ever designed the LCD and light display deserves a Darwin award. What good is clock that you can barely read?!?!?!

2. You can't have the display light on and change the alarm time at the same time. The display light must be off. If you want to change the alarm time in the dark, forget it.

3. The knob that changes the alarm time is flimsy. It feels like it will break off after a month or two of use.

Amazing, a company that calls itself "Timex" makes a clock that is barely readable. Buying this product was a waste of time. Hopefully, by reading this you will not waste your time!

The previous reviews in this section are quite honest.

1) You can only see the number from a 45 to 60 degree angle only

2) Alarm/snooze button are in a weird position in the bottom. Kinda difficult to get when you wake up around 5AM

3) It has a nice looking

4) Knobs are "plastic made" but not with a cheap or crappy looking

5) Good alarm for traveling purposes

I use this alarm as a backup alarm clock to make sure I WAKE UP!!!

This is a great idea for a travel alarm. It is too bad it only got the "once over" at Timex R&D before the started churning them out.

Here are a few items that should be addressed in a new & improved model:

1) The LED display needs to be viewable wider angles. It should be easy to read when sitting on a nightstand, as it is now, that is about the WORST angle to try to view it.

2) The flashlight needs to be brighter. A selectable beam with low and high brightness and/or narrow/wide beam would be ideal. Is it is now, it is almost useless.

3) A simple switch for time zones would be really nice.

4) The alarm cannot be set in the dark. You cannot change the alarm time while the Indiglo is activated. This is a major flaw.

5) The adjustment knob is flimsy and would be the weakest link in the structure. It needs to be sturdier.

I hope someone tries to remake this product because it would be awesome if it was done right!

Want Timex T117B Travel Alarm Clock with Flashlight (Black) Discount?

So far, this item has done just what I want it to do. It's silent, easy to snooze, and provides a convenient, but not TOO bright, light when the early (or midnight) riser needs to get around the room.

The female of the species gets up later than me, so SHE gets the clock radio, and I get the flashlight alarm! I use it as a portable alarm, not a clock; I've never had the dial-reading problem the other reviewers spoke of, but I don't really try to read it at night. It goes off, I hit snooze, switch on the flashlight, and I'm off to get dressed. Perfect!

THAT being said, design-wise it has a LOT of irritating aspects. Not only do you have to open the battery compartment to switch OFF (as opposed to snooze) the alarm, but setting it is a HUGE pain! You have to set it from 12 AM!?! One click at a time!!! And snooze and indiglo are the same... switch or whatever you'd call it. Also, I hate having to screw around with AAA batteries! Well, at least they're not C.

All in all, though, I recommend it as long as it keeps working (and I'll update this review if it does!!!)

In my opinion, you get what you pay for. For 2o bucks, you might get little annoyances, but overall you get an alarm clock that keeps time accurately and alarms you when you want it to. Upon reading other reviews for different alarm clocks, keeping time accurately or not having the alarm go off is a big issue in many alarm clocks. So, even though this one might not have 180 degree viewing angles, or the knob might have a weird feel to it, overall for bucks I'm not expecting the Rolex of alarm clocks, just something to keep time accurately and wake me up in the morning. Overall, I can say that I am 100 percent satisfied with my purchase!

I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my tin-eared octogenarian father to listen to his Lawrence Welk (yecch) CDs. I boxed it up less than 5 minutes after it arrived, so it can be returned.

The sound is so screechy it hurts your ears right down to your toes. Absolutely no bass response. Can't think of one music genre that would sound even mediocre on this system.

It looks cool, can fit on a shelf or be hung on the wall, and it has a smoked plastic door over the CD that rises via a motor, so I generously gave it two stars. However, the things that look like speakers on the outside of the grilles are fake, just inert hunks of plastic made to look like tweeters. Shame on GPX.

Please don't waste your money. Buy a system that you can listen to and inspect in a B&M store.

I ended up buying an iSymphony micro-system from Radio Shack for a similar price, but it has a remote control, bass boost, and a surprisingly rich sound for the price. Dear old Dad was happy beyond belief at how great his "music" sounded on it--he stares at the unit while the music plays the way folks watched their radios in the forties...spooky, but he smiles all the while. That made my Christmas merry!

Shipping was very fast about three days. Box and CD player looked to be in good shape. I plugged it up and pressed the CD open button and nothing happened. I checked to see if it was taped closed for shipping and it was not. I pressed open again and it did open and started smoking from both sides of the unit and was extremely hot to the touch. After it cooled I received my return authorization label and two day later it is headed back to GPX.. Never but this unless your home insurance is up to date and you have extra time to play the shipping and receiving game for a week.

Soi was looking for an ipod clock radio for my nightstand at home. I had one on my desk at work and wanted another one similar. Most of the ones I looked at didn't have an AM/FM radio.. what's up with that? Anyways, was in the store the otherday and came across this little system on sale for $30.00.. considerably less than some of those ipod clock systems were going for. So I thought, hmmm.. "it plays cds, has radio, clock and jack for ipod." Let's try it! So i took the ipod clock radio home and put it on my nightstand, and set this little system up on my desk at work. I couldn't be happier. Mine is actually silver in color, which is good, shows up less dust! For being played at low volumes... sounds pretty darn good. No this isn't your 5.1 home theater system, but for a small cubicle, played at low volume.. sounds pretty good. Has a preset equalizer, remote control, cool looking backlit display, plays my cdr's, am/fm radio, clock with alarm/sleep function. It's very compact so it fits on my desk perfectly, not bulky at all. The system has an overal nice weight to it, so it doesn't feel totally cheap. The system itself as well as the speakers also have rubber tabs on the bottom to keep from scratching any surfaces or slipping. My only complaint is that when you turn the system off, the volume level resets itself to around level 15 so, you have to immediatly turn it down before playing anything if you are in an office setting like I am. The EQ remains where you always leave it, which is good. This unit also comes with the required wire to connect your ipod/mp3 player as well as also boasting an earphone jack. You can even plug another type of component into the rear aux rca jacks. So if you have a standalone cassette player, dvd or anything else... it's ready! I wouldn't trust this unit to fill a medium to large room with sound, but a dorm, or small office space such as my cubical.. it's perfect!
