It's MW/AM, FM, and SW performance are outstanding for it's size and price. It's both very sensitive and selective (AM bandwidth adjustable to 6,4,3,2, and 1 KHz). As far as a coat pocket sized radio I seriously doubt you'll find one that will pull in stations quite as well as this one does at this price.
It is quite a bit more sensitive on AM/MW than the Tecsun PL-310, and PL-606.
No, it's not the hottest DX rig off all time, of course, nor is it comparable to bigger radios and/or radios is a higher price class, but it is amazing for what it is.
The alright:
The sound though the speakers is about what you'd expect from 2 1/2 inch speakers. Fine for voice, but it's not exactly going to win any hi-fi contests. Through headphones it's quite pleasant and powerful.
The SD slot plays back in stereo.
It suffers from what I call "Realistic DX-440" syndrome...i.e. When I turn the tuning knob where will it take me this time? The tuning rate is determined by how fast you spin the tuning knob. On paper it seems like a good idea, but in practice it takes some serious getting used to. For those of us brought up back in the analog days it can be a bit frustrating.
The bad:
The SD slot/MP3 player aspect was an afterthought. No display at all. Not even track number let alone title/ID3 display. Functions are as basic as basic can be, and on the back of the radio at that. Previous, next, and pause/play. That's it. Holding down "previous" or "next" noes NOT scan through a track, but rather jumps to the next or previous track. It does remember the track you where on last should you shut it off or switch to the tuner, but it starts at the beginning of the track.
For cheaper low tech devices such as the radio/SD/USB combinations from outfits such as "Supersonic" and "Quantum FX" (for info on those check my other reviews) this is understandable and even expected, but for something in this class with such an incredibly high tech radio circuit I was expecting much more from the SD player.
If an MP3/SD/USB player with a speaker (or speakers) is what you're after you could do better (or about the same) for much less.
Of course, it does not have a BFO/SSB capability.
It does not record on the chip.

I've got Tecsun PL-600, which has AMAZING clarity audio considering it's size, it's crystal clear, with rich bass, and makes you wonder, how such small radio produces such nice sound? But, it has only one speaker, mono. I needed something with same sound quality, but with stereo speakers. So, I bought PL398MP. And I was unpleasingly disappointed, radio has cheap, bass-less pong-pong sound. Of course, it is more feature rich, can be recharged from USB, has mp3 player, but in audio quality it suffers, so no way it can replace PL-600.Bottom line:
If you need good quality sound, get another radio.This my 3rd Tecsun SW radio and they are all great little radios. They very easily pull in even the weakest signals. The ETM tuning is very useful when traveling to other cities. Just activate the ETM and lock in all the local stations without losing your home stations. Also, it's about time someone had the brains to incorporate an SD card slot in a portable radio to allow playing MP3's. You can't go wrong with this little gem.I travel a lot and need a travel alarm. It's useful to have a radio and the ability to play MP3s is a big plus.
This little radio has just the right mix of features for me.
Once I got my hands on it, I was astonished. The technology and quality are impressive. The design and layout are exceptional. It can do a lot more than I am going to ask of it.
It really sounds good with ear buds.
The MP3 play on this gadget could be better but it gets the job done. I listen to audio books and it does fine.

The Bose system is everything I want in sound. I had an old model but this one allows me to use any of my audio devices with GREAT sound! The remotes work very well, but I do wish there were also control buttons on the machine, as I often misplace the remotes (they are usually with my glasses!). We recently remodeled our kitchen and I replaced our 15-year old kitchen radio with this--I like being able to cook while watching Netflix. We just purchased a small RV and I'm thinking about getting one for the RV as well. It was easy to install and I like that it charges the Ipad if it is plugged in. The speakers are OK, not Bose sound, but not too bad either. Overall the quality and functionality are OK--so, my feeling is that it is a reasonable value for the price. 4 stars, not 5 and not 3.
You can control player functions through the remote control or the panel keypad very well, so the interfase connector is well managed.
Also the audio power and sound quality you get is better than many iphone/ipad player docks in the market.Like others who have commented, I like the convenience and am able to watch Netflix, follow my recipes, play games with my kids, listen to music etc. Fits fine under my cabinet and is easy to use. I think it is a good value in the $50 $60 price range.
It swivels and folds away. My ipad slides in and out easily and seems very secure. I also like the fact that it has a charging cord, which some other brands don't, however, it IS clumsy to connect and disconnect. Even so, I would recommend it.
Other than that one complaint, I'm satisfied with this product.I got this for my sister for Christmas and I'm jealous! I should have gotten one as well! It holds your iPad or iPhone securely so you can watch cooking videos or listen to music while you cook. I'm tempted to get one for myself!We like this unit and it was the best option and best price we could find.

Not so good Docking a little awkward. Mounting screws too long and needed replacing to mount suggestion for company; use bolt system from inside cabinet which can be recessed and more secure.

The radios looked good in the advertisement but found them to be very poor quality. I purchased 2 of these radios to put in guest bedrooms and neither radio worked properly. There was no clear reception to any radio station FM or AM, and the tuning knobs didn't work properly. Don't waste even a dollar on these!We needed a clock near our TV / Entertainment system that was easily readable day or night. This is perfect! It's easy to read in the full light of the day, and it's super easy to see, yet not over distracting at night time. It's so both we and our kids know what time it is and easily with just a glance. "Do you know how long you've been playing on the xbox!?" we can now say with some authority. "It's 15 minutes past your bed time!" is another.The green numbers were a plus as I feel they're easier on the eyes, especially at night. And the green matches most of our other components mostly-green lights.
That being said, I can't rate this item for it's alarm, nor it's radio. I haven't tried either at all.
I would never use this as a bedroom clock. It's too bright for that. I need total darkness.
For what we bought it for it works perfectly!

This is a fun and beautiful (somewhat small clock). Maybe not bought to last forever but more of a novelty. I realized I couldn't run it on batteries alone as the batteries 4xAAA will only last days if the light is glowing all the time. Just to be clear the AAA batteries run the LEDs not the clock itself. I got a universal A/C adapter off of EBay for around 6 dollars Not shopping around. The specs you need are that it has a 4.5 voltage output and has an option or is set to negative polarity. Mine came set to negative. The plug I used was a 3.5 mm X 1.35mm female plug. The male prong was not aligned very well and i had to fiddle with it a bit to get it to fit. If You rely on an alarm clock to wake up every morning , Do not purchase this item.Impossible to set the time/date/alarm and all the functions without having to spend an eternity trying to figure them out. Instructions are useless. I wouldndt put my faith in this thing that you hit the right settings.The Batteries that operate the change of the color display (AAA) burn out in a day or two.DONT replace them once you find this out the hard way. Rechargeables offer the same life span.The button batteries that come with it,operate the time display,but seeing the time is difficult unless you are right in front of the cube .If you have the AC plug that is offered for this clock,then you have a slight chance of it working for a short time , but I wouldnt expect it to ... ...My opinion: Dont waste the few bucks this thing costs.Spend a few more and buy something that works . Great sound, compact look, good features. Unfortunately the insert will not connect with the newest iPhone (I have the iPhone 4) and barely fits the iTouch. This is even without case protectors!

Lets go over the main features:
Charging: Charges very nice. Support for all the various i devices is provided by sticking different plastic plates in the dock. Its really important to use this white little plates because they keep you from putting too much strain on the 15 pin connector. Disappointingly, they did not include a white plate that is compatible with the iPhone 2G. Perhaps they are not aware that many adults pass down their old 2G iPhones to their kids for use as iPod Touch... I have done that and I know several other people who have done it as well. However, this isn't a big deal, its not advertised as including this plate, but rest assured that if your child is using an iPhone 2G as an iPod touch then they will not be able to use the charging feature of this device.
Speakers: The speakers performed well for what they are. In fact, I was modestly impressed. It has a port so you can plug in an external mp3 player and get the flashing lights and speakers, so if you have an iPhone 2g, well, thats how you would use it. They make a big deal about the Passive Subwoofer. I did some research on the internet to find out just what a "passive" subwoofer is. The iHome manufacturer website had nothing to say about this, in fact, the "tech specs" page only had the product dimensions (weak). The manual also had no specs (weak). The amazon "technical details" has no specs (weak). So really, we don't know what this passive subwoofer is, or the specs of this subwoofer. Maybe its just an "idea" and all you are really getting is a "subwoofery experience" (boo!).
The lights: The lights are nice. I like the fade mode where it cycles through the colors. They blink appropriately when you have a really strong back beat on a song and not much else. It works perfectly. But as soon as anything that is not a very clear beat or melody enters the music the iHome has something closer to an apoplectic fit. It starts blinking and stuttering and flashing with no real relation to the music. I'm sure its little firmware is trying to do something marvelous, but its not as cool as a disco ball. The lights do work without music, it can sit there and color shift all day without your i device plugged in. The lights were a little jerky to adjust, there are 5 settings, and sometimes its hard to know which setting you are on, or how long to hold the button. But my kids don't mind this. They like to fiddle with it. An adult will dislike the vagueness of the controls.
The box tells you to check out the iPhone app... That the item is "app enhanced". which seems to imply that the iPhone app will somehow help you get more out of your little disco light show. Well, not really. They do have a free iPhone alarm clock app, I downloaded it and tried it and the two are mutually exclusive items. It is true that its nice to have the alarm clock app but I couldn't see how the iHome app worked with the iP15 in any way. I think you should download the free app if you get this device, just don't expect the app+iP15 to do more than they do separately. The app is a nice touch, maybe I'm missing something...
One minor detail... I think that the iP15 is kinda ugly when its not glowing some color. Its a dingy blue-grey when turned off. It doesn't look as white as the Amazon picture shown on this page.
Overall I would say this would be a great gift for a girl. My daughters were very excited when it arrived. I doubt it would disappoint a teen.
Its really hard to say whether to give it 3 stars (its ok) or 4 stars (i like it). I'm going to settle in on 4 stars, as the kids who are the target market felt it was great. And isn't it their opinion that matters the most?

What I liked: compact, easy to use and set up, "decent" sound, inexpensive.I picked this up not expecting the same type of sound from a higher end player. The sound is passable. If you want a great iphone/ipod type dock and expect a nice sounding system I would expect to pay in the two to three-hundred range. This is something you might use in a small room or out on the patio or in the garage. Definitely more of a trinket than a home music system.
It's very easy to set up, just plug and play. There are only four buttons: power, volume down, volume up, and color. There's no way to adjust any sound levels on the iHome iP15W. It also takes up very little space which I liked. The colors are ok, but most of the time I keep the colored lights off.
For the price I feel you get a fair value. The sound quality isn't going to impress anyone so don't look to buy this as your main sound system. But if it's a secondary music player then it's perfectly fine.

We checked this out at a discount store as we've been searching for a reasonably priced docking station for our 14 year old daughter for Xmas. Was very surprised by the decent sound quality. Much better than some of the other higher priced ones sitting next to it. We love bass and it performed better than expected. Color changing is pretty cool and I like the different settings. She's going to love it. Found it for $49.99 so look around!UPDATE: Daughter loved it....worked for 10 months...now it's dead. Daughter very disappointed.

This ipod dock is just ok. On the plus side, kids seem to like the styling and the colors, although after the first few days, my kids rarely play around with the colors. It is a charger as well as a player, which is nice, because the kids don't have to be messing with the wall charger, or for the iTouch, plugging it into a computer.The sound is fine and certainly sufficient for kids, but when I went back and forth between this dock and our other Phillips dock you could hear a huge difference. The sound on the iHome is much "fuzzier," for lack of a more technical term.
The biggest disadvantage of this dock is the inserts that should be placed around the connecter where it is docked. They are very difficult to get out once they are in, so if you have more than one device (such as an iPhone4 and and iTouch3) you are not going to be able to use them both on this dock if you use the insert without a big hassle. There is not really enough stability without the inserts in my opinion.. I'd be afraid of snapping off the connector or at least damaging it over time. An advantage of this product over some docks I would think is that it can fit an iPad (the one I recommend below would not), but we don't have an iPad, so this doesn't help me.
The biggest problem with using the inserts is that they do not accommodate a case. And seeing as how this is seemingly targeted to kids, generally kids should be using these devices with a skin or case. My kids have to pop the case off everytime they dock it, leaving it sitting on the furniture, and then remember to pop it on when they undock it.
To be honest, unless your kid is really obsessed with the lights, at this price, I'd recommend spending just a little more on the Philips Fidelio DS3000 Desktop Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone (White/Silver) which has excellent sound quality and is more stable and accommodates multiple devices.

I purchased this item for my daughter for Christmas. We were all absolutely amazed at the wonderful sound that comes out of this little thing! It also makes a nice little night light for her bedroom. You can turn the light off too. I really liked that feature too, so when she is gone, the lights do not have to be on. She has an ipod touch and it docks very easily. I have also used this for my iphone 4 to charge and play my music. Perfect! I highly recommend this item.
