iHome iH51 2.1 Micro System with Dual Alarm Clock Radio for iPod (Silver)

iHome iH51 2.1 Micro System with Dual Alarm Clock Radio for iPod
  • Compatibility: iPod mini; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G; iPod classic 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod touch 1G, 2G; iPhone 1G, 3G
  • Micro 2.1 system features two 7.5-watt satellite speakers and a 16-watt active subwoofer
  • 7-5-2 alarm lets you wake to iPhone, iPod, AM/FM radio, or buzzer
  • Play and charge your iPod or iPhone
  • Remote control included

Nice looking. Good IPOD Integration. I have IPOD 30GB Video IPOD and it works fine with it. Comes with 2 Aux cables one for Line in and 1 for line out and then 2 more 3.5mm cables for connecting 2 speakers. Way too many cables. I didn't like the fact that connecting the subwoofer is mandatory, since the power to the main unit comes through the sub-woofer cable. I didn't like the voice quality of the unit too much, especially the subwoofer. If you are bothered about FM reception, this has very poor reception. For that issue, I returned this item in 3 days. I instead bought IHOME IP9 which has pretty good FM. I bought the IH51 and IP9 for $79.99 each at costco, returned the IH51 and retained the IP9. There is one more model IH9 which is IP9 + Line out. I also tried previously iLUV i177. OUt of all of these, I would recommend IH9 / IP9 for overall quality, features.

Before I start I want to point out that as a 50-year-old father of two, I am not the type of guy who goes for bass-heavy systems that go thump, thump, thump, but I do like well balanced a rich sound systems.

I bought the iH51 to replace an iP9 that I have been happy with. The reason I bought the new iH51 was because I listen to a lot of music in my bedroom and liked the idea of having two satellite speakers to place on either side of the bed. Also, I assumed that having a subwoofer would provide a deeper, richer and balanced sound. Or so I thought...

Like with my iP9, the design and functionality of the ih51 is really nice. The 6 radio presets, bass and treble adjustment, 3D surround simulation and dual 2-5-7 alarms are great features. However the reason I've rated this unit 2 stars is because despite the fact it has a hefty subwoofer, the bass and depth on this unit is terrible. You would assume that having a subwoofer and two satellite speakers would mean a rich sound, but that is not the case here. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I am not a guy who goes for a heavy thumping bass sound, but the only way I could get even a rich balanced bass on this machine was to turn the subwoofer up all the way and to boost the bass level on the base unit to +4. And even with the bass cranked up that high, there is no real depth and clarity to this machine. Without the subwoofer turned up the satellite speakers sound like tinny transistor radio speakers.

I was really looking forward to what the iH51 offered and was sorry I had to pack it up and send it back, but when you're paying $150 for a clock radio with a subwoofer and satellite speakers, you expect a rich sound, and with all that this unit has to offer, that rich sound just wasn't there. I guess I'll just stick with my iP9.

The sound quality for this item is great! It sounds like a stereo with big speakers, but was compact enough for my daughter's dorm room. It also has 2 alarms, which is very helpful.

Very nice and highly recommended. Even works with Airport Express. All wires included for easy setup. The one flaw is that as this is "Clock Radio" and that the display is white. It should be red as the white will keep most people awake. I am surprised that such common knowledge is totally unknown or ignored by the manufactures. IHOME ARE YOU LISTENING?? I've had to cover the display with red transparent tape to be able to sleep with it but of course it makes it difficult to read during the day. Too bad, it would have been perfect.

Sony ICF-CD831 PSYC Clock Radio/CD Player (Red)

Sony ICF-CD831 PSYC Clock Radio/CD PlayerThe radio is nice with good quality sound.

My only complaints are the lack of station presets and the lack of ramp-up when the radio turns on. The volume hits you with full force when the alarm goes off, rather than a gentle rise. Same goes for the Nap timer the buzzer is loud and will jangle you awake.

I didn't realize that I'd miss presets, but I do. It's a pain to try and find a favorite station.

I am planning to return this radio and find a more gentle model.

I bought one of these for my daughter's Christmas present last year. She uses the CD player for the alarm, and very rarely to play music in her room. After less than 12 months of gentle use, the CD player only works intermittently.

I checked the warranty information after the fact, and SONY only warranties for 90 days, parts up to 6 months. After the 6-month period, you pay for labor to service the product. It's a waste of money, because the labor cost will certainly be more expensive than buying a new radio.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

I mainly bought this CD/Radio alarm clock simply because I wanted a small boombox cd player. I was very surprised by the excellent sound quality of the cd player and the excellent sound quality of the radio. It sounds ten times better than the regular alarm clock radio I have, so now every morning I wake up to a very clear sounding radio. The best part is, the sound of the cd player and radio has the ability to fill a whole room just as good as any other regular boombox. I'm very impressed!

The only things I wish the cd player had is an ability to repeat one song over and over.

However, I was surprised by the fact that this cd player has the ability to turn on the cd player to the track you want when you want to wake up. I've never had a cd/radio alarm clock like this before.

Clack-clack-clack! That's the sound you'll hear too often when you put a CD in this player. The CD itself seems to sit on the turntable fine, but the part of the lid that rests on the CD is loose and often misaligns. So when you lower the lid and spin up the CD, it clatters. That can't be good for the CD or the player. Each time you open and close the player, that component moves. No matter how carefully you place the CD in; no matter how carefully you close the lid, you are prone to this problem. You don't want to damage your CDs, and the noise spoils the music. So you have to be careful with it, or exchange it, or buy a different product.

Otherwise, it's a pretty nice product. The clock-radio portion is fine. The CD player, when it works right, is OK. The layout of the controls is no better and no worse than others of its kind. (Why is it no two digital products ever have the same layout?) My only other complaints would be the antenna wire that dangles from the back and ought to be eliminated entirely, and the marketing gimmick of the goofy little logo tag on the right side.

The critical thing to me is the clattering lid on the CD player. I didn't expect that from a Sony product. The other things I've mentioned are minor flaws. It's clear they put some thought into the design, they just should've done a little better.

In summary, buy a different model or buy from another maker. Don't put up with clattering in your CD player.

I purchased this Sony Psyc for our baby's room to replace a boom box we used to play music at night. Our oldest took the boom box to college! The sound is good and it serves the purpose I purchased it for--playing a cd and having the ability to "repeat". It doesn't take up much room (although there are smaller ones out there), and it has a sleek look. I'm not sure what the "Psyc" clip is for; so I'm sure I'll never use it. I do wish it had presets, but since it's in the baby's room, it doesn't matter that much.

Yamaha MusicCAST2 MCX-P200BL Network Music Player 1 - Each, Black

Yamaha MusicCAST2 MCX-P200BL Network Music Player 1 - Each, Black
  • Pre-amp output for external amplifier
  • IR outputs for controlling other connected devices such as amplifier/receiver
  • iPod/Bluetooth compatibility
  • Subwoofer output for added bass
  • Play any available network music content

I have 3 Yamaha receivers right now and have owned and sold a couple in the past. I like their receivers and was hoping to play my digital music collection through a Yamaha system. So far they have no come up with a product that meets my requirements.

My requirements are pretty basic. Some of them are met but not all.

1. Ethernet interface (met)

2. Optional wireless interface (met)

3. Play WMA lossless without transcoding (not met)

4. Have a front panel display for selecting music and showing what is being played (not met)*

5. Display more detailed ID3 information on a built-in or TV screen with album art in color (not met)*

6. SPDI/F (optical or coax) output to my Yamaha receiver (not met)

7. Controlled by my Yamaha receiver remote (not met)

8. Priced competitively like many current Yamaha receivers (not met)

Items 4 and 5 are kind of met by the remote (MCX-RC100) but at the extra cost. The MCX-P200 alone is costing more than my current Yamaha receiver that supports HD audio and 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs!

For the combined price of the MCX-P200 and MCX-RC100, one can get the Logical equivalent for much less and with the digital output plus the better format support.

To be fair, I would have to assume the DAC in the MCX-P200/MCX-A300 is the same as the one in my Yamaha receiver but neither supports multi-channel audio other than the stereo plus sub. By the way, how would one wire the MCX-P200 subwoofer output to the existing subwoofer that is connected to the Yamaha receiver?

I prefer not to use the remote for this purpose. I like the media player with a front panel display such as the old Turtle Beach Audiostation or Roku's SoundBridge SB-1000.

Currently, I am using a Dell slim desktop with a Roland USB soundcard as HTPC to play music. It is cheap and functional. The Windows 7 Media Center works well for this purpose. I am still waiting for Yamaha to come up with a media player that meets my requirements.

JBL Time Machine Alarm Clock/Dock for iPod - White

JBL Time Machine Alarm Clock/Dock for iPod - White
  • Wake up to favorite songs stored on your iPod--also includes radio and dual alarm
  • Large backlit LCD is easy to read, making menu navigation a snap
  • O-shaped, two-way speaker design with 6 watts of power per channel
  • Upward-firing tweeter and horizontal low and midrange transducers provide a 360-degree sound field
  • Compatibility: iPod nano (1G and 2G), iPod mini, 3G iPod, 4G iPod with click wheel, iPod Color, iPod Video

I am an iPod speaker/charger junkie having owned the Klipsch iFi and Bose Sounddock while currently owning a Klipsch iGroove. I have been looking to get an alarm clock to wake-up to my iPod, but the iHome was not quite the audiophile quality that I was looking for.

Positives:

1) Design-If you have a modern bedroom area, this thing is a cool head-turner. Design is underplayed in this market, but it is very important!

2) Sound-The sound is excellent at low to medium levels for both the iPod as well as the radio. The highs are very distinct and bass is noticable.

3) Ability to wake up to any song you like out of thousands on your iPod. I'm not sure what the last reviewer was talking about. I have easily been able to wake up to any song I like on my On Time. I can wake up to Wham or U2 or Rob Zombie, it's my choice!

4) The On Time gradually increases the sound for a gentle wake up experience.

Negatives:

1) The interface is not that difficult, but it's more difficult than the traditional alarm clock. Once you figure out how to do it, you will be fine, but it does take some figuring out.

2) Sound at louder levels is not great, but I'm not sure that's the idea. This item has small room filling quality, but if you have a huge bedroom and want to crank up the sound this might not be for you.

3) The time could be a little bigger on the readout. When I wake up in the middle of the night to check the time, I like to look real quick and go back to sleep. The numbers could be bigger, like the iHome, but are not as bad as some others.

Overall, I would not let the negatives detract you. If you have seen this on display at the Mac Store and liked it, you will like it more once you get it home. It's cool, sounds great and interfaces with the iPod seamlessly.

******************************

A lot of talk has been made about the fact that you can only wake up to the first song in your library. At first, I thought this was not true, because I was able to wake to any song I wanted...then I updated to the newest iTunes and newest firmware for the iPod Video 60GB and BOOM---it only now plays the first song of the alphabetically first artist on the iPod. I called JBL and they said that I actually have to go back and re-install the old software and firmware in order to wake to any song I want! What? I went to the Apple Store and they said, yes, this is true. There is no way to fix this. This is a MAJOR glitch in a product that has great sound and a wonderful design. True, you can go in and re-name any song on your iTunes to be the alphabetically first artist and first song, but who really wants to do that? JBL should stick to making speakers until they can get it right. If you make this purchase, please be aware of this flaw that I was not!

Update 2: This thing crashes every month or so. The display shows gibberish. I have to pull the plug and batteries and then it restarts and I reenter the alarm settings. It happens often enough that I leave the batteries out to make rebooting easier!

Update: Since writing this review I've come across one alarm bug and one glitch:

The Alarm buttons have 3 functions: set, remove, and, silence alarm. The 3rd function is only active when the alarm has gone off. If Alarm 2 goes off, and you hit the Alarm 1 button in error, the 'silence alarm' function for Alarm 2 is no longer available. You have to turn off the JBL. I think a programmmer forgot to use a state diagram.

I had an alarm failure which at first I thought was a bug. It turned out that there was an internal iPod alarm set. If it went off before the JBL alarm the iPod would turn on, but of course no sound came from the speakers. When the JBL alarm went off the iPod then went from play to pause. In other words the JBL 'wake up' signal is the same as tapping the iPod play/pause button -it toggles that state. I've seen a few occasions where tapping the iPod button and the turning on the JBL music manually can cause some device confusion, especially because there's a slight pause between turning on the JBL manually and the iPod's response.

Also, I read one review that described the incompatibility of the current iPods with this device as an "Apple bug". I caution that Apple may not see it that way, and I suspect there will be no "Apple fix". My hunch is that Apple changed its control interfaces and the JBL was not revised to the new interface. That might be nasty of Apple (or not), but JBL should have noted this in their marketing materials and their web site.

If you have a newer iPod and want to use this device, you could try leaving the JBL "on", pausing the iPod, and then setting the internal alarm on the iPod. In other words, using the JBL as a simple external speaker rather than an alarm clock. Clearly, this is suboptimal and you'd want the JBL to be sold at less than half its original list price.

--

I'd rate this device as 2 stars for the 3G iPod (because of the alarm failure, see update above), and 1 star for the 5G iPod.

With the 3G it works as designed. It starts with the last song played. If the context is a playlist it runs through the playlist.

With the 5G it starts with the last song played, but it never plays it. It quickly switches to the first song in the Library. The vendor is said to know about this fatal bug, but they claim it's Apple's flaw. Doesn't matter -they don't address it in their online support site and they continue to sell the product. Unacceptable. I will avoid JBL products in future.

I'm keeping this one for now I use it with my old battery-dead 3G. When the 3G dies however, it will be strictly a speaker system, not an alarm clock.

Additional comments:

* It has a really dumb eerie blue glowing LED at the top. I guess that's for those who want to dream of alien abduction. It serves no purpose, it doesn't even illuminate the clock controls (that might have been useful). I taped over it.

* It starts quietly and the volume ramps up. You can't control this. That's the worst "feature" so far (and a surprise -so much for the Amazon reviewers!); I'd prefer disable this depending on how I arrange my playlist. A remote would have compensated a bit, but ... [update: In practice I've actually grown to like this alarm behavior, so I don't consider it a negative.]

* There's no remote. I decided that was ok because it's one less thing to lose, one less set of batteries, and one less place for designers to move controls to. This thing is, after all, an alarm. We don't get to sleep in. Ever. The volume ramping does make me miss this more than I'd expected however.

* The documentation is weak with multiple typos and grammatical errors. It doesn't tell you what the RDS On/Off setting does, for example. (RDS, I believe, is a system for encoding information in FM broadcast, such as time of day, song title, etc.)

* The sound is very good, even at near peak volume.

* The buttons seem flimsy and cheap.

* It has a big, heavy, wall wart power brick. At least the color matches.

I recently bought this item. It has great sound with loud and clear reception from both the radio and the ipod. It is relatively easy to use and user friendly. The only problem is, you cannot wake up to the song of your choice on the 5G video ipods (30 GB, 60GB). (On the older ipods, it works just fine.) However, on the newer ones, it will instead begin at the start of the entire library. It is not the system's fault, just a bug in the Apple software for the newer ipods.

When contacting JBL, here is the answer they gave me. Good morning and thank you for your inquiry. I can understand the concern regarding the JBL On Time. This issue is not actually an issue with the JBL On Time, but, a software issue with the Apple iPod. The iPod will not remember the last song played when you power on/off, switch inputs, wakeup, or set the alarm on the JBL On Time. It will default to the first song in the library, if you have the following iPod's with the following software:

iPod Nano software 1.1, 1.1.1

iPod Video software 1.1, 1.1.1

So, this system is great for looks and sound, but the only draw back in my opinion is the inability to wake up to any song you choose instead of hearing the entire library.

Want JBL Time Machine Alarm Clock/Dock for iPod - White Discount?

Here's my pro/con list as well as what could be done to improve this alarm clock.

Pros:

Blue LED Normally I hate the blue LED thing. Talk about lighting up a room these little lights are quite annoying. Thankfully JBL thought of this, there is a sensor on the left hand side which dims the display and overhead light when the lights go out. I have to give props for that.

Start Up Song Yes this will play whatever song you want as the startup song, you just have to read the manual. Start playing the song you want to hear, and hit the off button. It will start where it left off in the morning.

Sound Great quality.

Auto-setting clock Never have the wrong time, very nice feature.

Big Dock Connector Area I can leave my iPod in my agent 18 (clear plastic) case and plug it in. Very nice indeed.

Snooze Button Nice and big button right on top.

Cons:

Auto-setting clock I know this is a pro but it also was a con for me. It seems that the first radio station this clock picked was 4 minutes off. I wanted it to get the time from another station, but couldn't get it to skip. Finally had to use a FM Transmitter and block the bad station to get it to use another station. Quite annoying.

iPod Control There is no way to control the iPod from the unit. The only way to skip a song or choose another playlist is to change it on the iPod. I consider this quite sub standard.

Back Dock Connector I don't know if I got a bad unit, but if I plug my laptop into the back of this clock, it will not recognize the iPod.

Volume On the quietest setting, this unit is still a little loud for me in the morning.

Default to Beep If you remove (or neglect to put in your iPod at night) the default alarm is a beep. I should be able to set what to wake up to if the iPod isn't in the unit.

Things it should have for $200:

Remote Come on, no reason a remote shouldn't be included.

Power By Dock If I have the dock connector in the back, and I plug that into the wall, why can't that power this clock? It seems to me that this would allow for greater flexibility.

Better Instructions Still haven't found where it talks about what RDS is.

Playlist Per Alarm I'd like to set two different playlists as the separate alarms. There's no way to do this from the unit, again a let down.

Softer Sleep Sound You should be able to set a softer volume for the sleep mode.

5/8/07 I purchased a JBL On Time player very cool looking but there is a major flaw. When the alarm goes off, it automatically plays the first song in the library EVERY TIME, even though the manual indicates how you can set it to play any song you want...

JBL's answer? Following is the ridiculous answer from JBL tech support:

"Good morning and thank you for your inquiry. The issue is a software bug

with the iPods. The JBL On Time will default to the first song in the

library if you have the following iPods with the following software:

iPod Nano software 1.1 current

iPod Video software 1.1 current

The current fix is to downgrade the software to 1.0 (iPod Updater

2005-11-17). This download enables you to select any song to wake up to.

Please note, downgrading the software will not work with the new iPod

80gb Video or the 2nd generation iPod Nano."

Can you believe it?!? Yeah right, like I'm going back to the stone age with my iPod software.

To me, JBL needs to work with Apple to resolve this problem with future releases of the software, not make "valuable" customers back date software...

If you are an owner of the On Time product, I hope this helps. Please send JBL support an email letting them know how unsatisfied you are with their product support. Perhaps if they hear from enough of us, they will change there archaic ways...

If you are thinking about buying one, perhaps you should wait for JBL to become more responsible for their own customers' satisfaction...

Cheers.

LG Spectrum II 4G Android Phone (Verizon Wireless)

LG Spectrum II 4G Android PhoneI got this new phone one week ago today from Verizon (not Amazon). Unfortunately, had to return to Verizon store today to exchange phone. There was a problem with the camera/software. Other than that, I am very pleased with the phone. I LOVE ICS!! I upgraded from a Motorola Droid X, and am very impressed with the lightweight Spectrum II.

-The touch screen is super responsive (sometimes just hovering over a letter while texting is enough).

-Not too impressed with the face lock, I prefer not to look at myself every time I want to unlock the phone.

-Many apps that are linked with your Google account will automatically load onto this phone (with ICS).

-There are a lot of pre-loaded apps (56 total apps), many that I could live without, but most Amazon apps are pre-installed, with a wonderful widget included. Amazon App Store is not pre-installed.

-Smileys are difficult to use in many apps (if you can loacte them at all).

-Predicitve text seems to be only available when texting. Have not seen it in the browser.

-I use Google Voice a lot & messages don't seem to be transmitted as fast as with my previous phone, arrive within minutes instead of seconds.

-In the app drawer, preloaded apps are on first few pages, then apps you downloaded. There is an option to arrange apps alphabetically, but will only arrange downloaded apps, not pre-installed.

PROS:

Screen is perfect in size, clarity, AND brightness.

Phone is fast and responsive.

Camera snaps quick and clear pictures/video.

Call quality is very good and reception good.

Durable

Tactile and intuitive

CONS:

I wouldn't mind a Jelly Bean upgrade...but it's already very smooth and that's the main feature I see.

Also, it needs more accessories, like a car dock with built in charging...:)

SUMMARY:

I picked this phone because I found it felt great in the hand, the screen wasn't pentile (pentile gives me headaches) and was also FAR brighter than the S3, and I got it for free. I expected to "settle" for it and find it useable but I'm surprised how nice it is. The UI is pleasing to look at and very very responsive I don't miss Jelly Bean and its project butter. It's well rounded and I'm a bit disappointed with some reviews it's getting from CNET and other sites because it doesn't have an advertising campaign with it or catchy features that hardly get used (like on the S3-which is still a great phone!)

I came from an HTC Rezound which I liked a lot, but the bigger screen and thinner body of the Spectrum 2 make this a VERY nice upgrade.

Buy LG Spectrum II 4G Android Phone (Verizon Wireless) Now

This phone has surprised me. I have owned lots of Android phones and this one might be my favorite yet. I NEVER thought I would say this about an LG phone. To put it in perspective, I have owned the Galaxy Nexus, S3, Rezound, Razr and Razr M.

The one area where this phone really shines is reception. The Galaxy Nexus literally could not pick up a signal at my house, the S3 was not much better and the Motorolas had a solid 3G signal but barely picked up a 4G signal. This phone has been on a 4G signal over 90% of the time. Calls are crystal clear too. Not sure why the LG has a stronger signal at my house than any of the other phones but it does.

The IPS HD screen is awesome too. Much better screen than some of the more expensive phones...

It comes with some delivered themes. The Thor one is especially cool.

It runs fast too. It had some delays when I first started using it but that has cleared up. I deactivated quite a few of the delivered apps that I do not need.

The GPS locks on fairly quickly but not as fast as the Razr M did.

The battery life is average but good enough for me. I am constantly around a charger if needed. If you need great battery life and do not have access to a charger regularly, this might not be the phone for you. On the positive side, the battery is user replaceable if needed. There might be after market options for a different battery but I have not seen one yet. It also comes with a micro sd card slot for expansion. So many phones these days do not have either of these options.

The overlay that LG uses does not bother me. You could always use a launcher if needed.

The phone would be even better with Jelly Bean. Hopefully this will happen sooner than later but I doubt it since the sales of this phone will be small and not likely a priority for Verizon. Plus LG has not been known for quick updates in the past.

In my mind, LG has come a long way since even last year. If you want a great HD screen and excellent reception on a budget, this phone is a great option.

The phone is very fast compared to my previous phone the droid X2. The Screen is amazing. Also the person that says the iphone is faster put two together take video and upload it here please to show everyone it is faster. I highly doubt it is. It's on par with any other phone sporting a 1.5G Dual-Core and 1 GB of ram, now if it has more ram and the new quad-cores then yes it's slower then them, and so isn't any other phone not sporting the SAME(or damn near equivalent)specs. If I can have a phone that can play HD videos via youtube, netflix and not lag i'm happy, which this phones satisfies me.

Want LG Spectrum II 4G Android Phone (Verizon Wireless) Discount?

I've been using the LG Spectrum 2 now for about a month now and for the most part it is a pretty great phone. I am 6'5" so I tend to like the larger phones. It was a pleasant surprise to be able to get something close to the Galaxy S3's size for much cheaper. This is my 5th droid phone so I am pretty familiar with them. For the most part it works just like any other phone running on droid. It currently comes with ICS but will hopefully have Jelly Bean on it. For specific spec's you can read the product's description. It has a front and rear camera, but of which work great. The camera app also records right before you press the snap button allowing you to select the exact frame that you want. Instead of having multiple LED's on the phone for notifications, it just has one around the power button on top for all notifications.

This is my first phone using NFC and I love it. it is great to be able to swipe the phone over n NFC tag and have it auto perform task/settings. I like that the NFC is in the back of the phone and not the batteries themselves like the S3, because that means you can get replacement batteries online for fairly cheap if need be (have not needed to yet). It comes with 2 NFC tags and I purchased some more online for about a buck each that work well so far.

Audio quality is great. The the processor is fast enough to play ps1 roms without any issues.

There is only one thing that I absolutely hate about this phone. When mounting to a pc it uses MTP which is painfully slow. Unlike with my other droid phones, MTP allows you to access and use your phone while transferring files, but it is so infuriatingly slow that I would rather just not be able to use the phone while it is transferring files. Other than that the phone is great and I would have no problem with giving it a 5 out of 5 especially considering the price.

Pros:

-Decent Price

-Size

-NFC is awesome

-Can upgrade storage with up to 32gig micro SD card

Cons:

-MTP file transferring is slow

-Notification LED is only 1 color (not a huge deal)

-Comes with bloatware (as pretty much all do)

Overall this is a great phone. If it wasn't for the MTP it would be an easy 5 star phone. if you are looking for a large phone and don't want to spend a lot on the s3 this is a great option.

My JVC KD-SH1000 was stolen, so I bought the LD33MU as a cheap replacement. And that's exactly what it is. The sound controls are basic treble/bass/balance/fade/loud and it plays DVDs fine with auxiliary outs/ins. In fact, DVD playback is great for a unit that only costs $160.

Now for the quirks:

The menu is very, very, annoyingly simple. You'd think it was a Fisher-Price toy. It won't read from the USB if a disc has been inserted. Pressing the pause button causes it to restart with the first track in the folder. It won't remember the track position if it gets turned off.

Have to use the remote for certain menu functions. Subwoofer control is basically just an on/off setting.

For the money, it's a no-frills DVD player with 3-inch screen. Perfect for a work truck or noisy car. But if you're looking for the ultimate audio solution for your luxury car, look for decks that cost $300+. If you're looking for a deck that reads SD cards, then wait until they start making decks compatible with SDHC... 1GB just doesn't cut it.

Great product. I love it. It plays pretty much any audio / video that I have put into the DVD player.

Cue Acoustics Cue Radio Model R1, White

Cue Acoustics Cue Radio Model R1, White
  • Apple Universal Dock: The dock on the Model r1 charges and plays most generations of iPod and iPhone. It is fully integrated into the design of the r1 - not a separate unit or an add-on like some other brands offer
  • Advanced Digital Technology: The D2Audio DSP (digital signal processing) chip and digital amplifier in the Model r1 provide amazingly clear sound and a very wide dynamic range. As a result, you will hear subtle details in all your favorite music that can be obscured by lesser quality sound systems
  • Dual Alarms: The Model r1's two completely independent alarm clocks are very flexible and reliable. A backup battery ensures that your alarm settings will remain intact through a temporary power outage
  • Scrub Forward and Rewind with Navigation Dial: The navigation dial also functions as a scrub wheel in iPod mode - allowing you to rewind music by turning it counterclockwise and advance forward by turning it clockwise
  • Multi-functional Graphic Display: The r1's 3" LCD display makes any action easy and intuitive. It integrates gracefully with your iPod or iPhone, with all menus available on either the iPod/iPhone display or the r1's display

I have owned my Cue Radio Model r1 Table Radio for seven months and absolutely love it! The sound quality of this unit is impeccable. I primarily use the radio at my office, but its compact size and portability have allowed me to take it with me on trips as well. The radio came along on my most recent ski trip and drew the rave reviews of my friends, who were amazed at how this small device filled a large room with rich, beautiful sound. In addition to listening to broadcast radio, I use the r1 to play my iPod and Sony MiniDisc player, and the radio functions smoothly and effortlessly under all formats. The sound that the r1 produces with my acoustic rock MD recordings, in particular, is nothing short of stunning. The radio's operation is intuitive, the AM/FM tuner is far stronger than the Sony boom box I formerly used in my office, and the display is easy to read. I have become addicted to glancing at the song and artist tags whenever I hear a new song. In short, the r1 is an outstanding table radio, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who appreciates amazing sound. Enjoy!

The good is that the cue acoustics radio has a first rate sound quality. Within the limitations of a small form factor, it is hard to imagine a better sounding table radio (particularly if you buy the stereo speaker that goes with this unit). In fact I have to turn the volume way down at night because it can put out an impressive amount of clean sound. FM and AM reception are very clear. The controls are intuitive and easy to use.

But I can only give the unit 4 stars. The blue lights for the ipod controls are too bright for something you will probably put next to your bed. The led lights on the computer interface dim when the lights are turned on (this is a feature you have to set up) but they do not dim enough. The volume of the alarm clock is set at exactly the same volume as you use to listen to the radio. It does not go up progressively nor can you set it independently. It is a bit clunky setting up the alarm since you have to go through some nested menus. It would be better if you could set independent alarms for each day of the week.

I used a logitech boombox as my alarm clock for over a year before buying the cue acoustics radio. Hands down the cue is a better sounding unit which is why I replaced the boombox. That said, the interface for alarms and the dimming features on the boombox are clearly better than the cue. The engineers ought to buy a boombox and see how a well designed computer/alarm clock is supposed to work.
