The radio is excellent. Most of the time when you search the KA600 radio it does not come with the wall charger. So make sure you purchase one! In my case the wall charger was offered with the radio as a package deal. So, here are the draw backs: The antenna can't be turned to improve the reception. So, if you are going to be in the middle of no ware get an external antenna. The manual crank works just fine but I have not yet used the solar charger. Overall the radio will meet your needs. An additional feature that should be added to all "Weather Radios" would be WATER PROOFING! This should have been a no brainier but most radios are not weather proof! I am sure that many people would be willing to pay five or ten dollars more for a water proof radio! I could only give the KA600 a 4 out of 5 rating since I have not used all of the units features and have only used the unit for about 4 weeks. At this point I would recommend this radio for anyone wanting a small back up unit! I purchased my unit from electronicsandradios and had no problems with delivery.

Note: Past Toshiba DVD players have had documented problems reading disc (see all product reviews prior to 59.. series). This is not the better, newer 59.. DVD model. They are using the older (bad) drive in the combo VCR/DVD to save money.

I purchased this model expecting the newer 59.. model DVD drive. This drive has eliminated many of the previous problems associated with Toshiba DVD system. Unfortunately, I gave Toshiba too much credit.

The system showed all the signs of being the older drive. Skipping, random pixilated image, loss of sound, and problems initializing the disc. Come to find out they are using the older drives to save money on these combo units. Toshiba has deceptively named this model after their newer, redesigned system in an attempt to sell their remaining stock of older drives.

Well, I didn't need to read far into the first customer review to discover that my issue wasn't singular. The issue? The DVD player, after working just fine, just stopped reading disks. Boom, just like that, over, out and that's all she wrote! One night it was working great, the next night a "NO DISK" message. Naturally, I tried a number of disks, even the optical lens cleaner one, but no go, it's dead.

The player was got in late August of '05. I'm the only user and I'm a Type-A careful guy, so I didn't do whatever killed it.

For image and sound, high marks while it worked. For longevity, minus marks; why should it only function for 13 months? I've got another DVD player, Toshiba, or there would be no need to mention it, that's been working wonderfully for over 6 years. Why this glaring discrepancy in the products sold under the same name?

If you are comfortable spending a fair amount of money for short-time usage, it gives high quality pictures and sound while it's alive. Otherwise, research DVD players and buy something reliable, which this particular one isn't, alas.

After reading some of the reviews a few months I reluctantly purchased this machine because it had the features I wanted. I was reluctant to buy because of the difficulty many reviewers on here expressed about set-up and getting a picture.

I had no problem setting it up and it used to work fine. However we've had it a few months now and the machine does not recognize DVD disks. I've read other online reviews today of Toshiba's other DVD products and it seems that their products give up after a few months.

I've always been a Sony guy and have bought MANY things over the years from them without any problems (as with any company I'm sure Sony does have some occaisonal defective products, but I personally have never come across any). At any rate I can not recommend buying any Toshiba DVD products based on my limited experience and what I've read.

I went to Toshiba's web site to see if they offered trouble shooting. It seems logical to devote some space on the web site that lists the various error messages with suggested actions. The web site does not have this. I did look at the owner's manual, which does offer some trouble shooting, but it does not cover this particular error message. Toshiba's customer support is open M-F, 10 am to 7 pm Eastern. I'll call them when they're open. Obviously customer support is another weak point of Toshiba. I'm in California so I'd have to call between 7 am to 4 pm California time, and I'm either on my way to the office or already there. So their hours of operation for most people in the Western US is inconvenient.

To be fair I do not know Sony's customer support hours (or if they are better) but that's only because I've never had a problem with Sony or had a reason to call them.

I've had this combo VCR/DVD for two weeks now and so far I am very pleased. I didn't have any issues with connectivity to my Pioneer Elite Plasma. I have the DVD portion of the player connected via the supplied HDMI cable to Input 3 of the plasma and the VCR portion connected via the supplied composite cables to Input 2 of the plasma.

The picture quality of the upconverting (I'm using 720p at the moment) DVD is very good especially at this price point. I considered other DVD players from Denon and Panasonic but decided on this Toshiba. I decided I would save a little money for similar PQ and a VCR as well for the tapes I haven't replaced yet. Since HD-DVD or Blu-Ray is right around the corner I didn't want to spend too much on the upconverting feature, which is merely a stopgap technology anyway.

As for the VCR picture quality, it is fine. It's more a function of displaying on a 43" Plasma than the player anyway. I don't know of any player that will display a great VHS picture on a large screen panel.

Overall, I'm very happy with this unit. The price/performance can't be beat as far as I'm concerned. I obviously haven't had the player long enough to comment on its durability, build quality etc, but I'll be keeping an eye on it and add to my review in a few months.

This machine only lasted a few months and know the DVD player constantly freezes. I tried cleaning it, but it still constantly freezes to the point that watching the movie is impossible.

JVC NXPN7 Portable Audio System with Dual iPod Dock

First let me say that the dual dock is awesome. I use this unit with my 3g iPhone and iPod Color. This unit has great sound, and good functionality. for instance, from standby, pressing the play button once, not only wakes up the unit, but also starts playing the last song played on the iPod, nice and easy!

However here are two critical flaws that no one else has mentioned.

1. There is no "Snooze" function! What kind of clock radio has no snooze????

2. Even worse, to use the wake up timer, you have to and I quote the users manual, " Turn off the unit (on standby)". On Standby the unit displays nothing but a blueish glow, THE TIME DOESN'T DISPLAY and can't display if you have a wake up time set. What???????

So just to make sure that you understand, when setting a wake up timer, (which this unit has 3 of) you cannot have the ability to display the time and have a wake up setting active. So rolling over in the middle of the night to glance at the time is not an option with this thing. How lame!!

Other than these 2 (in my opinion) huge functional missteps, this would be the perfect dual ipod AM/FM clock radio.

I bought this because I wanted to reduce the clutter of multiple chargers and cords and docks, and I wanted the convenience of a set of powered speakers for my iPhone 3G and clock radio all in one. While I can say that my basic needs were met with this, I can't give it a ringing endorsement for a number of reasons. But before I get into those reasons, a quick basic overview;

The JVC Dual Dock is a fairly compact unit, and the overall quality is fine. Not what I'd expect at this price, but no different than most clock radios. The glossy finish does come off as a bit cheap actually, but overall the unit is handsome. The buttons are clearly labeled and simple to operate, which is nice for those features that can be accessed with the buttons on the unit (more about that later). I'm irked that one of the few buttons on the unit is dedicated to the rather silly and pointless color LED function, but I can't weight that too heavily in the review. The one real downside of the design of the JVC Dual Dock is the power brick; it is absolutely huge. Bigger than I've seen for almost any electronic device ever. Maybe that won't matter for some folks, but in my case I put the unit on my bookshelf and am not able to put the power brick on the floor because I have to run the cable through the back of the bookcase. The power cords do not detach from the unit, so that means I have to have the power brick hidden behind the unit on the bookshelf. Though not removable, the power cord is plenty long from both plug to brick and brick to unit, so hiding the brick somewhere shouldn't be too much trouble for most.

The sound quality is adequate. I would compare the sound quality to a $20-$30 set of computer speakers. But for a bedroom system where high audio quality isn't a necessity, this unit is just fine. It does have a bass enhancement feature, but I found that this decreased audio quality. The radio has good reception with the two included antenna (one FM and one AM).

The clock features are just a little better than your average $20 clock radio. Up to three alarms can be set, each with its own setting of daily, everyday or weekday. And each can be set with its own source for alarm, iPod (#1 or #2) or radio. This is pretty handy for couples, for instance, who have separate wakeup times (which I imagine is the primary audience for this device). While this sounds great, it falls a little short of what it could have been, since having 5 or even 10 alarms would have been just as easy, but added a lot of flexibility to those with more complicated schedules. And when it comes to clock/alarm integration with the iPod, there are some real problems. For example, the alarm function does not work when the unit is left "on" at night. So if you like to listen to your iPod when you're drifting off to sleep, and like to wake to the radio, you can't do it unless you take extra care to set up the sleep timer on the clock radio.

When an iPod is used as an alarm, the unit wakes and presses "play" for you, then fades the music in from 0 to whatever volume is set under the alarm function (nice detail, that you don't have to wake to the same volume that you last used). But if you want to wake to a particular song on the iPod you'll have to leave that song playing on the iPod or set the alarm on the iPod seperately to have it play. The alarm on the iPod will not wake the JVC only the JVC can wake the iPod. This makes sense, but is somewhat complicated for those that like to wake to particular music. Of course, you can just leave the JVC unit on and set the iPod itself to be the alarm, but this would only work with one of the iPods because the source would have to be set the night before.

All functions are handled through a small, one line monochrome LCD on the unit. The interface is done through hierarchical menus that, once you understand, are fairly easy to navigate. But there is nothing graphical to suggest that the menus are hierarchical, so it does take a bit of practice to understand exactly what is going on, especially when setting alarms.

The remote is where we start running into the fatal flaws of this unit. Sadly, JVC made the choice to have some functions almost all functions, actually, accessible only from the remote. Philosophically I have a big problem with this, since remotes can be lost or broken and then you're left with a big expensive paperweight. To add insult to injury, JVC decided that of the limited buttons on the unit itself, one of them is dedicated to the color LEDs, which is just stupid. But what's most egregious is that the remote is one of the worst remotes I've ever used. The buttons are the sealed sort all under a common piece of plastic. Very cheap feeling with almost no tactile response. Half the time or more, the buttons don't even respond, which makes setting alarms or tuning the radio station incredibly tedious and frustrating.

So overall the unit is pretty good at providing an easy way to get rid of clutter and bring iPod music into the bedroom, and it throws in some nice clock features. But its reliance on the poorly designed remote kills this unit dead. Until that is fixed I would not recommend anyone buy this at any price. And speaking of price this should be closer to $80-$90, better reflecting the value of a $20 clock radio combined with a $20 set of speakers with a pair of $30 docks.

Do I like this product? yes and no.

I bought this for the purpose of having a nice alarm clock and charging station for my iphone and ipod touch. It does that. I'm an engineer... I have several complaints. JVC designers didn't do a very good job on several area's, although the overall look, sound, and dual nature is fantastic.

Complaints:

1) Bright display is too bright at night. Wrong color too. It should be red... you can turn off the display (ECO mode) sort of, but then, the ipod charging quits too... so you wake up with ipods not charged. That sucks. There is not a good reason why the display couldn't be fixed. I know, because I've done it myself in commercial products which I've designed.

2) The remote was obviously created by a retarded chimp throwing darts at a chalkboard. The locations of the buttons make no sense whatsoever (ZIPPO!), and there is an ipod looking silkscreen on the front of the membrane of the remote, made to simulate and look like an ipod, but it doesn't behave at all like an ipod. The folks at JVC messed this up greatly; next time JVC, you can hire my cat... she can do better than your dart-tossing monkey. Great main unit JVC, so why did you stop when it came to the remote?

3) I have yet to find a use for the colored lights. It would be cool if they would work like the color organ lights of the 60's and 70's...throbbing in sync to magical mystery tour music, but they don't. They just sort of sit there... doing nothing. They're useless. I would make them pulsate to the music... make the remote double as a bong, and you'd really have something.

4) The time clock, and the AM radio... hard to tell the AM radio from the clock display, because they both have "AM" in them. Again, dumb dumb dumb.

On the plus side, the sound is great for a bedside radio... the aux input is nice (I have an ipod shuffle too). And, the best thing... it has two docks. Docks are nice. They have doors to cover the dock when not in use which is a nice touch.

Most of the functionality is built into the remote. Too bad the remote stinks. Nice radio though.

JVC managers shot the engineer too soon on this product. It could have been so much better; still could be saved. Fix the display brightness problem, make a new remote, and I will overlook the useless lights and AM radio/clock issue. I would have given this 4.5 stars.... but with crappy remote and brightness issue, I give it only 2.5 or 3 stars.

It's really not a problem because you just set the alarm on the iPod instead. The iPods nice wake sound is outputted thru the JVC.

I think this system is geared for the iPod touch and classic. It does have wonderful sound on it's own with line-in , FM etc, but incorporates so many iPod features on both the unit and remote some may think twice if they didn't own an iPod. I would still purchase it though even if I didn't own a couple of iPods solely because of the sound this JVC produces.

The sound really is very good. I'm no audiophile however I believe I can differentiate between products that sound nice and products that are just plain lame (the ones that specialise in distortion and interference yuck). The JVC has lovely sound, no horrible 'tinny' treble, nice midrange and for the size, rather a smooth base.

It looks great, charges two iPods at the same time, colours are cool (the LED lights gimmicks, I know, and easily turned off). Love it.

It does have a timer and other clock type features.

I like the audio-in, FM/AM features, haven't used the video out feature. It receives all FM stations with ease.

I would buy this product again based solely on the sound quality.

Very highly recommended.

I bought this item about a month ago and find it very useful. I live in Los Angeles so a GPS system is very helpful finding my way around. I agree with another reviewer that the load time is a bit slow, but nothing that would cause me to have an issue with it. The maps themselves are Navtech maps and are used in the majority of preinstalled GPS systems of major car makers. There are several options with the 'advanced' mode and the basic mode offers simple navigation tools. I would recommend this to anyone considering a GPS system who doesn't want to spend over $500.

After looking into several models of Auromotive GPS, I got this unit for my wife @ Christmas. I have used it several times, and find it to be well built and reliable. The unit is easy to use, if you spend a few minutes looking at the instructions, and has a bigger screen than any other portable units, as far as I can see. Also, the windshield suction cup mount that comes with it is well-built, adheres to the glass very reliably, and is strong,without bounce or sway. The sound of the voice is decent also.

I spent a great deal of time researching navigation systems online before deciding on the Delphi Nav200. I began my search looking to spend between $200-$300 max. Having just moved to a new city, I decided it would serve me well in an area with confusing streets and poor sinage. I'm satisfied with my purchase. My Delphi nav system provides VERY accurate directions, and offers many features uncommon among systems at its price level. Not only does it show me exactly where I am, it tells me how far I have to go, how long it will take me to get there given current speed, and offers numerous views. Voice directions are loud and clear (volume can be adjusted). There are, however, a couple down-sides. Although the Delphi has an extensive POI database, you really do need to know the name of your destination as searching by category has proven difficult if not impossible on several occasions. The screen is large, but the many options I mentioned earlier are displayed along the sides during use making the map itself smaller. It can take several minutes to acquire satellite connection with each startup, but signal is strong and constant once acquired. Overall, I remain pleased with my purchase despite a few flaws. I think it would beat competitors in a side-by-side comparison.

I have only used it once,but I was impressed with it. The one feature that I really liked was the way that it showed the curves in the road as they were coming up. If you are traveling on a road that you don,t know it is very useful.....

Bought this for my son's birthday to go with the ipod he had bought with Christmas money. He was very happy with the design & speaker quality and now uses it with the iphone he bought with his birthday money. Only problem is, he has to take the phone out of the Otter protective case to put it on the charger which can be alittle bit of a pain... Docking/charging plug is not sized to accommodate a case, only the naked device. Other than that one detail, he was very happy with it.

The iPod dock doesn't work. It doesn't register that the iPod is connected when it is attached to the dock. The radio works ok but the display changes to the radio station when music is on, so you can't see what time it is anytime you are listening to music. Overall it was a waste of money and I wouldn't recommend buying one.

I really liked the look of this and a big plus was that I could charge my iPhone with the case on. The dimmer worked well on reducing brightness at night and it didn't take up a lot of space on my nightstand. Unfortunately the buttons were really hard to use in that they are really small. There are three buttons near each other and two of them are the alarms. So it was difficult to turn off the alarm by touch. The snooze button is also on the small side and in a bit of a weird place, underneath the display. Although annoying, I was starting to get used to it until it stopped snoozing. It just seemed to turn the alarm off after a few uses. While I probably would have gotten used to the buttons, in the end I couldn't have a clock with a flaky snooze button.

The iHome stereo system is pretty good. It looks pretty and has some "wow" factor. I like it.

Lets go over the main features:

Charging: Charges very nice. Support for all the various i devices is provided by sticking different plastic plates in the dock. Its really important to use this white little plates because they keep you from putting too much strain on the 15 pin connector. Disappointingly, they did not include a white plate that is compatible with the iPhone 2G. Perhaps they are not aware that many adults pass down their old 2G iPhones to their kids for use as iPod Touch... I have done that and I know several other people who have done it as well. However, this isn't a big deal, its not advertised as including this plate, but rest assured that if your child is using an iPhone 2G as an iPod touch then they will not be able to use the charging feature of this device.

Speakers: The speakers performed well for what they are. In fact, I was modestly impressed. It has a port so you can plug in an external mp3 player and get the flashing lights and speakers, so if you have an iPhone 2g, well, thats how you would use it. They make a big deal about the Passive Subwoofer. I did some research on the internet to find out just what a "passive" subwoofer is. The iHome manufacturer website had nothing to say about this, in fact, the "tech specs" page only had the product dimensions (weak). The manual also had no specs (weak). The amazon "technical details" has no specs (weak). So really, we don't know what this passive subwoofer is, or the specs of this subwoofer. Maybe its just an "idea" and all you are really getting is a "subwoofery experience" (boo!).

The lights: The lights are nice. I like the fade mode where it cycles through the colors. They blink appropriately when you have a really strong back beat on a song and not much else. It works perfectly. But as soon as anything that is not a very clear beat or melody enters the music the iHome has something closer to an apoplectic fit. It starts blinking and stuttering and flashing with no real relation to the music. I'm sure its little firmware is trying to do something marvelous, but its not as cool as a disco ball. The lights do work without music, it can sit there and color shift all day without your i device plugged in. The lights were a little jerky to adjust, there are 5 settings, and sometimes its hard to know which setting you are on, or how long to hold the button. But my kids don't mind this. They like to fiddle with it. An adult will dislike the vagueness of the controls.

The box tells you to check out the iPhone app... That the item is "app enhanced". which seems to imply that the iPhone app will somehow help you get more out of your little disco light show. Well, not really. They do have a free iPhone alarm clock app, I downloaded it and tried it and the two are mutually exclusive items. It is true that its nice to have the alarm clock app but I couldn't see how the iHome app worked with the iP15 in any way. I think you should download the free app if you get this device, just don't expect the app+iP15 to do more than they do separately. The app is a nice touch, maybe I'm missing something...

One minor detail... I think that the iP15 is kinda ugly when its not glowing some color. Its a dingy blue-grey when turned off. It doesn't look as white as the Amazon picture shown on this page.

Overall I would say this would be a great gift for a girl. My daughters were very excited when it arrived. I doubt it would disappoint a teen.

Its really hard to say whether to give it 3 stars (its ok) or 4 stars (i like it). I'm going to settle in on 4 stars, as the kids who are the target market felt it was great. And isn't it their opinion that matters the most?

What I liked: compact, easy to use and set up, "decent" sound, inexpensive.

I picked this up not expecting the same type of sound from a higher end player. The sound is passable. If you want a great iphone/ipod type dock and expect a nice sounding system I would expect to pay in the two to three-hundred range. This is something you might use in a small room or out on the patio or in the garage. Definitely more of a trinket than a home music system.

It's very easy to set up, just plug and play. There are only four buttons: power, volume down, volume up, and color. There's no way to adjust any sound levels on the iHome iP15W. It also takes up very little space which I liked. The colors are ok, but most of the time I keep the colored lights off.

For the price I feel you get a fair value. The sound quality isn't going to impress anyone so don't look to buy this as your main sound system. But if it's a secondary music player then it's perfectly fine.

We checked this out at a discount store as we've been searching for a reasonably priced docking station for our 14 year old daughter for Xmas. Was very surprised by the decent sound quality. Much better than some of the other higher priced ones sitting next to it. We love bass and it performed better than expected. Color changing is pretty cool and I like the different settings. She's going to love it. Found it for $49.99 so look around!

UPDATE: Daughter loved it....worked for 10 months...now it's dead. Daughter very disappointed.

This ipod dock is just ok. On the plus side, kids seem to like the styling and the colors, although after the first few days, my kids rarely play around with the colors. It is a charger as well as a player, which is nice, because the kids don't have to be messing with the wall charger, or for the iTouch, plugging it into a computer.

The sound is fine and certainly sufficient for kids, but when I went back and forth between this dock and our other Phillips dock you could hear a huge difference. The sound on the iHome is much "fuzzier," for lack of a more technical term.

The biggest disadvantage of this dock is the inserts that should be placed around the connecter where it is docked. They are very difficult to get out once they are in, so if you have more than one device (such as an iPhone4 and and iTouch3) you are not going to be able to use them both on this dock if you use the insert without a big hassle. There is not really enough stability without the inserts in my opinion.. I'd be afraid of snapping off the connector or at least damaging it over time. An advantage of this product over some docks I would think is that it can fit an iPad (the one I recommend below would not), but we don't have an iPad, so this doesn't help me.

The biggest problem with using the inserts is that they do not accommodate a case. And seeing as how this is seemingly targeted to kids, generally kids should be using these devices with a skin or case. My kids have to pop the case off everytime they dock it, leaving it sitting on the furniture, and then remember to pop it on when they undock it.

To be honest, unless your kid is really obsessed with the lights, at this price, I'd recommend spending just a little more on the Philips Fidelio DS3000 Desktop Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone (White/Silver) which has excellent sound quality and is more stable and accommodates multiple devices.

I purchased this item for my daughter for Christmas. We were all absolutely amazed at the wonderful sound that comes out of this little thing! It also makes a nice little night light for her bedroom. You can turn the light off too. I really liked that feature too, so when she is gone, the lights do not have to be on. She has an ipod touch and it docks very easily. I have also used this for my iphone 4 to charge and play my music. Perfect! I highly recommend this item.

I had gotten this mp3 player for my birthday in red and i was in love. It was easy to use, had an amazing battery and sound and well organized. I only got to use it for a total of 3 1/2 months until it stopped working completely. It wont turn on, charge over even blink. I am highly upset and feel duped. An mp3 player should last way longer than 3 1/2 months. I advise anyone not to buy it unless you have money to replace it every 3 months. :/

I have NO CLUE what these other reviews are about...I bought this same one almost a year ago now, and it is in top shape. The sound quality is mind boggling! And its got great CLEAR BASS with no distortion, and good battery life. Best mp3 player ever! Hands down. Although there are later versions I would go with those because they are newer, but this is a great device.

It was great until it refused to turn on after three months. I really wished I would have read these reviews before picking this up. I definitely would not recommend this product to anyone.

This unit worked great for 4 months. One day I plugged it in to my computer to re-charge it. The computer did not recognize that the unit was plugged in. It did not show up as a drive. I can not change songs and the unit does not charge. It is now worthless.
