We have been looking for a good music system for an affordable price. Perfect item for us. Love the docking station feature. It has good sound for a smaller player. It comes with a remote control. Very happy with this product and

recommend it to others.

I bought two of these brand new to give as Christmas gifts. Both of them, not just one but both, were defective right out of the box. The CD Player "open" function would not work. I tried pressing it on the remote and on the console itself, but the cd player would not open. I called customer support to find out that they are aware that their products have this problem. The very hard to understand customer service guy told me to restore the item to its factory settings. I did this and the CD player started working. However, I unplugged it to move it, and when I plugged it back in, the CD player was a no go again. Customer Supports only advice at this point was to return the merchandise.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE. I BOUGHT TWO, BRAND NEW, AND THEY BOTH HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. MOREOVER, THEY KNOW THAT THEY'RE SELLING A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND THEY DON'T CARE.

Overall the speakers look GREAT. The led lights give it a great modern look. Features are also great. I like how it has radio with a CD player, always goo to have variety.

However, the reception for the radio can be a bit off.

The biggest drawback is sound quality. I have great beats headphones and know what good sound is. However these speaker's quality are only average, I was expecting much better for the price paid.

After my other docking system broke, I was searching for a better one and this one sure is better and was only $30 more. I love that it has so many features. I can play my ipod, cds,or simply just listen to the radio. I love how it includes a remote that controls everything, including my ipod. Also, I am able to hook up my ipod to my tv which is awesome. If you have the money to buy this, it's so worth it. You'll really enjoy it!

The product page needs to be updated, this system is nice looking et all but its not iphone 4 or ipod touch 4 compatible, just an fyi. also the port to connect video out is just that, an rca video out forcing you to use the system as speakers instead of your tvs speakers...

DBTech Big Oversized Digital Green LED Calendar Clock with Day and Date - Shelf or Wall Mount (12 in

DBTech Big Oversized Digital Green LED Calendar Clock with Day and Date - Shelf or Wall Mount
  • Easy to read in bright sunlight as in darkness, comes with 3 levels of brightness (currently available on the Blue & Green LED model only).
  • Very convenient for the visually challenged, shows clearly the time and date no need to convert numbers to day and month.
  • Show AM / PM status with a light underneath the letters, no need to guess what the dot stands for (currently available on the Blue & Green LED model only).
  • No need to be reset if it loses power. Powered by AC adapter (included).
  • 1 year limited manufacture warranty

Great clock for the elderly especially with memory issues. Large bright lit numbers are easy to read even across a large room and the month and day are in word format which is a big plus. So far everyone that saw it wanted one too, I also enjoy the blue LED instead of the traditional red because it is less strainfull on the eyes. Would highly recommend for the elderly or people with poor vision.

This is a really big clock with really bright numbers!

It's a veritable night light! Perfect for my daughter's

room. We love it that the time stays current, even when

the power goes out and comes back on (which happens A LOT

where we live)!

My original feedback is below. I must say that I am impressed with the seller, because after they read my review, they contacted me directly to apologize for sending an older model, the deficiencies with which have been corrected in the newer model (dimmable display and no leading zero on the time display). They replaced the old model with a new one, and sent the new one before asking me to send the old one back. Very accommodating, and impressive service. Nice to know there are still some sellers out there who care about customers getting what they expect. My mother, who is aging and becoming increasingly forgetful, is the envy of the floor in her retirement community for having a clock that tells her the day and date. She loves it and thanks me for it every time we visit.

---------

If this was one of the first digital clocks ever made, I would be impressed, but two major flaws I see within a minute of plugging it in: 1) During the 18 hours of the day when the hour should be a single digit (1-9), this clock displays a leading zero -e.g., 09:21 (not 9:21 as shown in the prodcut photo). Really? I have owned dozens of digital clocks and watches since the '70s, and they had that complicaed algorithm figured out already back then. 2) The brightness of the display cannot be adjusted it is permanently set to the "retina burn" setting. Again, the concept of a dimmable display is not new, but aparently not in the $80 per unit budget. Disappointing at best. I am amazed there are not more (better) options for clocks that display day and date.

Clock was good size. Letters and numbers show even when direct sunlight falls on the face of the clock. Accurate even when you lose power. Might be bright for a small room that you need to sleep in, but we use it in an office and it works very well there.

Duracell Batteries / 9Volt - size battery

Duracell Batteries / 9Volt - size batteryDuracell 9 volts are the only batteries I use in the wireless microphones we use for our instructional video business. We replace the batteries before every shoot and sometime run for up to 10 hours non-stop. Wireless microphones use a lot of power and we have found that the Duracell batteries can make it through an entire day of shooting, lasting about 25% longer than the less expensive generic types we tried before.

We also use Duracell 9 volts in our smoke detectors at home. They might be more expensive than some, but they are worth it in the long run.

Highly recommended!

We purchased this 9 volt battery for use in our fire alarm, but the low battery still kept going off. We then went to Kroger to buy another 9 volt and this one allowed our fire alarm to work properly. Cannot recommend any purchases from this vendor.

I originally ordered this battery for a radio back-up in case the power went out. However the radio played-out and stopped working shortly after I got this battery. I did get a new radio but the new model has a back-up that doesn't require a battery as the back-up is internal{built-in}. However, I will be using the battery on another radio{a weather radio} that has a battery back-up. I have found out that Duracell batteries last longer than other brands{not surprising since they cost more} and I only buy Duracell batteries now.

I bought this thinking that I was getting a 12 pack of 9volt batteries. When I opened the box there was only ONE battery in there!

This is deceiving. The product description even states pack of 12.

I hope the problem is corrected and get my other 11 in the mail soon.

Apple iPod nano 8 GB Blue (6th Generation) OLD MODEL

Apple iPod nano 8 GB Blue OLD MODEL
  • 8 GB capacity for about 2,000 songs
  • Up to 24 hours of audio playback on a single charge
  • 1.54-inch (diagonal) color TFT display with 240-by-240-pixel resolution (220 pixels per inch)
  • Support for AAC, Protected AAC (iTunes Store), MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV audio formats
  • One-year limited warranty

I have owned several iPods and I phones. I recently purchased a previous model nano because I missed the feel of the click wheel on my original iPod. Unfortunately, that nano went missing and so I had to decide whether to buy another previous model click wheel nano, or embrace the new touch model. I took the plunge and fully expected to return this new model. But then I opened it and the controls just work. The new touch menu system is faster than the old wheel. It's size is unreal. The square screen is perfect for album art. Yes, it did loose some features but I was ok with that because the video camera and microphone was always poor quality. It also doesn't play videos, but seriously, with the small screen, video has always been useless on the Nano. If you don't like the trade offs then look elsewhere. But if you want an an incredibly small and intuitive audio player, this is it. I think this is really what the iPod Nano should be.

Buy Apple iPod nano 8 GB Blue (6th Generation) OLD MODEL Now

I bought a new Nano after repeatedly trying the Sansa Clip and having it fail due to hardware reasons. My primary use case for an MP3 player is as a device to play audiobooks that I've ripped from CDs. The new Nano is pretty terrible at doing this. The major issue is that putting the Nano into "deep sleep" loses track of what the last track you played was. This is unacceptable when I'm listening to an audiobook that can have hundreds of individual tracks. The only real remedy (besides trying to go back through the entire book and remember what track you're on) is to plug the device back into iTunes and look at the "Play Count". This effectively tethers the device to a PC every time I want to turn it back on after not using it for more than about a day.

In terms of other aspects of the device, it seems well built and is nice and small. However, the lack of being able to do things like pause without using the touch screen is very annoying.

Overall, I find the device significantly less functional than my older generation Nano and wish that it was still possible to purchase one of those ones.

I bought this to replace a 2nd generation nano. I use the nano with the nike+ system and am not impressed with the newest model. The size itself is nice but the touch screen leaves much to be desired. I couldn't always get the screen to turn on when running and it now takes extra time and steps to skip a song compared to the older generations. The clip often slips on the tech shirts I wear and found the best way to wear it was up by my neck. To make any adjustments I would have to stop running, unclip it and look at the screen. I also found the battery life only lasted a few days compared to the weeks I could get from my previous nano. I ended up returning the 6th generation and buying a 5th generation with click wheel.

is a pity that the best idea for athletes, is a fraud.

The 6th Generation iPod Nano may seem just what you were looking for, and can give you satisfaction ... but do not expect more than a year of satisfaction.

This ipod has a problem not solved by apple people is that after the warranty expires and not before, the iPod stops playing the songs.

Just stop without a why.

It is a pity and a shame that even the software update can't solve the problems of the iPod.

That is, the iPod is irreparably damaged when you warranty expires and you can not do anything, this model simply beyond repair.

If I were you: I would not buy, and wait for apple releases a new version.

The seller was greatI just HATE this product. I'm training for a marathon and the battery never lasts AND I've had it replaced by apple twice already.

I don't know if it's the humidity of Minnesota or if I sweat too much, but I really regret purchasing this product. If I could do things over, I would have bought a used 4th or 5th generation.

Sirius ST2 Starmate Replay Satellite Radio with Car Kit

Sirius ST2 Starmate Replay Satellite Radio with Car Kit
  • Plug-and-play satellite radio transmits wireless over your vehicle stereo
  • Features a five-line LCD display, 30 channel presets, and 30-song memory for favorite song or artist alerts
  • Game alert notifies you when your favorite NBA, NFL, NHL, or college teams are playing
  • Includes a vehicle docking station with a suction-cup mount, DC power adapter, and antenna that mounts on your car
  • Internal memory stores the last 44 minutes of programming for easy play-back

I got my Starmate Replay about a month ago. Since then, I only listen to "normal" radio when Howard Stern is on in the mornings. After that, it's Sirius all day long. Come January, I'll be saying goodbye to terrestrial radio.

The good:

The size of the unit makes it a breeze to install. I originally mounted it on my dash in front of my steering wheel where I could see it and access it easily. I used velcro for that install, but it didn't work out as nicely as I wanted. I solved that problem with a vehicle specific dash mount from Crutchfield. Best $35 I spent. The unit is now mounted just to the right of the factory radio and is out of the way, yet still very accessible. The remote is a good size without being too small. The buttons are well placed and it works good without having to point it directly at the unit. That said, I rarely use it. The unit is well within easy reach without taking my eyes off the road.

Bad:

I dont really have anything "bad" to say. The unit does get warm, but that seems to be an industry wide side effect. I keep the brightness and contrast at a minimum and that seems to keep the unit a tad cooler. I do not have a fear that the unit will overheat. It just doesn't get that hot.

Overall I'm very satisfied with this unit. So much so that I just bought another one as a gift.

I want to start out saying that I was leery about buying another Starmate radio, because my original was only a few months old and wouldn't play most of the time.

Well, I am SO glad I ditched it and bought this Starmate Replay. I live in Central New Jersey, and travel to South Jersey all the time. This radio has great receptionmuch better than the old version. I do not have to change the frequency when I travel into Philadelphia airwaves, and if I do, it can be done on the fly with the touch of a button. You can store up to 5 FM stations in the Replay, so you can switch without taking your eyes off the road.

I also like that I can tap a button and scroll through to see what artists or songs are playing while still listening to a station.

I was forever forgetting to turn the old one off, but this one can be set to turn off after 1 hour of inactivity. It will prompt you with a signal, and you can override it by hitting the main button.

I didn't think I would use the replay optionI thought of it as something guys would like for sportsbut I use it all the timeI can run into a store and rewind back a favorite song or even rewind Howard if I miss something or can't believe what someone just said!

All in all, this radio is a great investmentI truly enjoy it.

The screen now has 5 cracks in it and I can't read a thing.

The problem is this...I move the Starmate in between my home car and work almost on a daily basis.

The "stand" and the clip-on car holder are some of the worst designed accessories I have ever seen. The pressure it takes to clip it on and off is absurd. Not to mention the fact that the radio has NO CASE! There should be a hard-shelled case to slip the receiver in and out of.

Overall love the radio, but hate the lack of thought put into protecting it

Want Sirius ST2 Starmate Replay Satellite Radio with Car Kit Discount?

I have several Sirius Satellite radios, but this one is the best. The contact to the antenna is perfect. The displays are easy to read. The radio is simple to program. There are 30 presets for favorite channels. There is a pause feature that records for upto 45 minutes, and that is a great function.

If you don't have satellite radio you do not know what you are missing. It is cable for your radio. The best invention ever.

I gave this radio to my wife for Xmas as she is a Stern groupie and has a 1 hour commute, boring terrestrial radio couldn't keep her awake so getting this thing was a safety issue. The thing worked fantastic for 4 months and then quit, displaying the " Acquiring Signal" message ad infinitum. I called Sirius to get an RMA, sent it back and we are still waiting for the replacement after 2 weeks. I really think the radio sucummed to the heat these things generate which is an inherent design flaw so I have no confidence in the replacement lasting more than a few months. There is no reason for these radios( all makes and models generate excessive heat ) to get as hot as they do. Also, if you are expecting high fidelity audio out of satelite radio be it Sirius or XM you will be disappointed. Well heck, they need to plow some of their revenues into improving the technology.

Q8 Dual Sim Card Dual Standby Watch Cell Phone Mobile Quad Band Touch Screen Mp3/4 with Keypad

Q8 Dual Sim Card Dual Standby Watch Cell Phone Mobile Quad Band Touch Screen Mp3/4 with KeypadThis is, without a doubt, my favorite watch of all time. It's not perfect, but what watch ever will be? First off, I've used the phone feature only once. My primary reason for considering this watchphone isn't for the phone feature but rather the MP3 player+Bluetooth capability. I use it for working out at the gym, I don't have to strap my iphone to my arm, my shorts, etc. Instead, I just turn on my Motorola S9 Bluetooth stereo headset and I'm good. Yes, it does have high-quality bluetooth stereo support. However, you'll find that your watch should be within very close proximity of the headphones. How close, well... within just a few feet (not the 33ft. you'd expect). As an MP3 player, it's good (not great). As a camera, it's good (not great) since the pictures are 640x480 (VGA) resolution. As a video recorder, it's bad (resolution is really bad). As a video player, it's so-so (I've yet to figure out how to fast-forward a movie). But, if you look at all the features packed into this small package and the "coolness" factor, I can't help but give it a 5 star overall.

I love it, it's not perfect but the makers of this watch are definitely on the right track. Through incremental improvements in future models, this will be an awesome watch that everyone will someday want. As it is today, it's a slick little device. If you like high-tech watches, you probably can't find much better than this one today.

I would first like to say that I very much like this product. But it doesn't go without it's pros and cons.

Pros: Very Adjustable Wristband, Durable, Sleek, Good Interface.

Cons: Product Image is Not Exact, User Manual is a Little Confusing, Lack of Customization, Very Quiet Speaker.

Now for the details.

This is day one for me and the watch. I'm not used to watches over all so it makes my wrist itch a little; but despite a somewhat bulky screen, sits well on my wrist and doesn't shuffle around too much. Although I'm on the very last notch since my wrists are small. This is probably better fit for most men.

Another issue is customization. The particular theme on the phone was aimed towards women and I have no clue how to look like what is in the image.

This product is also not built to be compatible with most PCs and there are currently no working drivers/sync centers for Vista/Windows 7. But I'm used to that since my old phone couldn't either. It would also be nice if there was a product site for this watch.

All in all, I like it for its portability, and I would recommend this product to someone that likes the simplicity with dealing with less features than what most competing cell/smart phone companies are doing now. It's not a good geek toy but will definitely get you some wows from those who aren't so tech savvy.

Thank you for reading!

The previous reviews seem very contrived. It seems strange that English would be the second language for all the other reviewers. This watch received poor reviews on other websites. Buyer beware. Amazon should check the IP address of people posting reviews to eliminate Chinese manufacturers from submitting false reviews to pump up their products.

Motorola Standard Dock for Motorola ATRIX 4G

Motorola Standard Dock for Motorola ATRIX 4GIt's a dock, it does what its supposed to do. Charges the phone, and lets you easily use your phone as a clock / alarm clock / "radio" (pandora, etc). Has speaker output and that is all. No synching to your computer. One big drawback is that the ones Amazon must have are old. Shipping units from Motorola direct include two docking plates, one for the phone with no case, and one for the phone with the Motorola "ruggedized" case. Apparently however the ruggedized case is not going to be released, it is available from a Chinese website that must have snuck some of them out the back door before Moto pulled the plug. I ordered two of these docks from Amazon and called Moto to get the other dock plate for the ruggedized case. As a one time exception, Moto gave me one of the adapter plates free, and I had to pay for the other one because I "didn't order the docks from Motorola". I thought that was fair enough. Just beware, if you want the dock insert for using your phone in the Moto phone case, don't buy it from here.

This is a great dock for the price. I decided to get this one over the multimedia dock because i feel that i will only be using the dock to charge the phone. Since i also use my phone as an alarm clock the angle and built in widget that turns the phone into a clock is a great feature. I do not have a clock near my bed so this is a great alternative. The dock its self looks great even without the phone in it. The dock also comes with a wall charger, so i now have a spare to take around with me when i travel. Over all this is a great product for the price, and gets the job done if you want just a bed side charging dock, or at the desk a dock to sync up with your PC.

First of all to all of those who wrote negative reviews: No where does it say in the product description that it can be used to sync with PC and it WILL fit a phone with a case (you simply and easily remove the deck adapter that come with it). You just have to read the directions (which are mostly pictures!).

I think this Dock is exactly what it says and does a pretty nice job of it. I love that the dock screen can be customized and, there's even a port to attach external speakers (on the dock) to make it a small desktop media player.

It's perfect for work where I can easily see the time, date and weather and listen to music I have stored on my phone. Also perfect for home as an alarm clock.

It's a good product. I ordered a second one today.

When I first got the dock I was disappointed that I could not get it to fit with the case I had on it, however after chatting with Motorola they had me remove the top of the dock. This made it slightly larger and my phone now fits in it snugly.

I will say that this still won't help it fit a large case like an otterbox, but if you are removing your case all the time it is certainly worth a try...

Want Motorola Standard Dock for Motorola ATRIX 4G Discount?

This dock is very nice except for one very important issue. The majority of people are not going to spend a lot of money on a phone and not put a protective case on the phone. At this point in time, it is very apparent that they only intend this Dock to be used by people who want to risk use of the phone without a case because the phone will not fit into the dock without taking your case off your phone. That is a deal breaker. I still have the dock but intend to send it back. I keep thinking they will be responsible enough to come up with a case, especially when they have 4 different docks for this phone. Not real bright in my opinion.

This was one of the coolest Kitchen CD/Radio thingies I ever saw... it was easy as pie to install under the cabinet too.... BUT conveniently about a month after the Warranty runs out on it... the CD player goes bonkers and doesn't work right. What's up with that SONY? I'm very disappointed Sony would put out such a product that breaks down this easily... and we hardly even play the CD's. It's just a Junky/cheaply made unit plain and simple. I'm big on quality sound and top of the line equipment, which is why I was surprised I wanted this. We have a great sound system in our living room. But this thing is so darn HANDY!!! I'm a stay at home mom with four kids and we live in our kitchen. I can quickly turn it on and listen to some music if I happen to have a quiet moment or put some tunes on while I'm preparing lunches or dinners without having to blare the stereo from the other room. It really has nice sound. Don't get me wrong, it won't replace your surround sound system. But sometimes convenience is nice too (plus I'm getting older!) It's VERY easy to use and even easier to install. The remote with the magnent is pretty cool, too. I wouldn't have gotten it if it didn't already have good reviews and I'm happy I spent the money. It looks pretty neat under the counter too! Go out and get it...now!

I've had this CD/Clock Radio for about a month now and I like it very much. It was easy to mount under my kitchen cabinet, and the wood of the cabinet was thick enough that I could counter-sink the screws and eliminate the problem some people reported with the screw-heads sticking up inside the cabinet.

It's easy to use and easy to set the clock and buttons, though I don't need the remote I'm nearly always close enough to use the buttons on the radio itself.

The only issue I have with it it that the FM antenna is in the electrical cord and when I walk too close I get static from it. I can't place the cord in such a way that I don't have to get too close which I could do if the antenna were separate I don't know enough about RF to know if that's even possible.

  • LCD Digital Display; Digital Clock Display
  • Treble/ Bass/ Balance Adjustment & Loudness
  • SD Card Reader; USB Connection
  • 4 x 50W / 200 Watts Max Power

I was very skeptical about this when I first bought it, but it is actually built very well.

It has RCA jacks at the rear so that it can be used with a amplifier as well.

The radio is manual tune only but I don't change channels all that often anyway.

It reads from SD media, USB drives and also has a plug in for your iPod.

There is no moving parts to wear out which is exactly what I was looking for.

I would recommend for use in boats, off road vehicles, motorcycles, heavy equipment, etc.

I would have expected to pay a whole lot more for something of this quality so I am very happy with it and I will definitely buy another.

I was very skeptical about this unit after reading review. This unit may have it's quirks, but for the price, you can not beat the value.

I was deciding between this cheap receiver and a more expensive receiver with less features (Pioneer DEH-1300MP).

I picked both of them up for very cheap and I have to tell you, I like this one better.

Pros:

It has sub-out RCA jacks on the back.

RMS power is what it's rated.

Incredibly light.

Screen is bright.

Loud function is as the perfect cross-frequency.

The radio has an analog tuner (Knob tune).

Has SD/SDHC, USB, and Aux inputs. (I have a 1TB hdd in my glove compartment hooked up through USB so I have all my music.)

There are no moving parts to wear out.

Cons:

No fader control. (Most users don't need this anyways.

Volume across inputs isn't equal. (Radio is louder than everything else.)

Radio tuner is much more specific than most US radios.

Screen has a little backlight bleeding.

Doesn't come with a remote.

Want Legacy LR192 AM/FM Receiver With MP3/USB/SD/Aux In Player Discount?

I bought this for my boyfriend when he had his cd player stolen. He found it and thought it would be a good unit to plug his ipod into, which is what he listens to in his car. We decided to give it a try despite the reviews. He installed it and mentioned there was some noise coming from the unit. When I got in to listen to it, it was awful. It's enough to drive you to a homicidal rage. The prospect of listening to it for an entire car trip wasn't great, so he switched back to another unit, and we're going to return this one. Too bad...it was a low price for what looked like a simple product.

Total piece of garbage. Tons of electronic noise/static/interference sounds awful. The radio won't scan for channels and doesn't even store channels. DO NOT BUY.

I purchased this product two weeks ago and I received it today. The package was very light. When I opened it, the product was so small. Not what I was expecting. It looks very cheap and not worth the money at all. I have decided to keep it because my 3 year old daughter likes the stars, otherwise I would return it. There are better products similar to this one but this is the only one I could find that shipped to Canada, thats why I went ahead and purchased it even after reading the one reveiw about saving the trouble not purchasing the product. Overall, the product is nice but definitely not worth the money and shipping costs.

The minute I took this out of the box it was clear that it was not worth more than a dollar. Very cheaply made, airy light in hand, and not intuitive to use. Save yourself the trouble.

First let me tell you I am a really tech savvy person and work in IT every day. The controls on this clock are so un-intuitive that you will need the instructions for every change you make. That being said this is a good stable clock for what it is. It is a kid's clock. Do not buy this as your primary alarm clock. It is battery powered and ungodly hard to use but my 6 year old loves it.

This product works great as long as you have batteries in the house. Company should make it with an adapter to plug in.

Sounds and star light work good for my kids but the clock part not so much. Alarm doesn't always work (and I bought 1).

-Start of 10/15/07 update --

I have now moved my home theater setup into the new 20x20 room. I installed the new 4 Polk Audio RM6751 surround speakers on the side and rear walls and reused the Energy speakers up front. I ran the receiver's Audyssey 2EQ automatic speaker setup which did a surprisingly good job at determining the size and distance of the speakers from them main TV viewing position. It was perfect, off by a foot for some speakers but very close. I proceeded to test the entire home theater using some action space sequences from Star Wars Episode 3 which has a Dolby Digital EX 6.1 audio track. All I can say is WOW. The new room and 7.1 speakers has really allowed this Onkyo receiver to shine. It sounded good in the old room but was somewhat limited by the poor room layout. In the new room it sounds nothing short of amazing. The surround effect sounds very well blended and non-localized as they should. This is an excellent sounding entry level 7.1 receiver.

The ONLY reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the quirky behavior of the HDMI video switching. Not because it doesn't switch audio over HDMI but because of the few problems it caused with my cable box and DVD player when they were connected through the HDMI of the receiver. I now connect them directly to the TV as I did with my old receiver and everything works great.

-End of 10/15/07 update --

I'll start by saying that overall I am very pleased with this receiver and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an full featured budget priced receiver. I am NOT an audiophile. I'm just a guy who enjoys watching movies in surround sound. As such I try to buy components that offer the features I need without all the extra stuff I don't need at a low price. This receiver fits that description perfectly.

This receiver is an upgrade from a 7 year old Pioneer VSX-D608 5.1 receiver. The main reason for the upgrade was that I plan to move my home theater system to a larger 20x20 room and felt that a 7.1 speaker arrangement would be really nice in that room. I'm currently using the new Onkyo in the old room with 5.1 speakers. The move into the new room is a few weeks way.

Since I'm still in the old temporary room I didn't use the Audyssey automatic setup system instead I manually configured all the speaker settings and distances. I found the controls and menus to be fairly easy to navigate and use.

When shopping for a receiver one of my top priorities is a clean low distortion amp which gives you very nice and detailed sound. Be careful when shopping. There are some receivers with 1% THD which IMO is too high. You can tell the difference in sound between 1% and the Onkyo's 0.08%. The SR505 is excellent in this regard.

The SR505 supports the standard formats like DD (Dolby Digital) 5.1 and DTS and also supports many new formats such as DD EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS 96/24, DTS-ES, DTS-NEO6 and others. Even though many of these are 7.1 formats they work just fine in a 5.1 setup. The SR505 automatically handles the missing 2 speakers. These formats give a lot of versatility to the audio because they allow conversion of 2 channel audio up to 7.1 and 5.1 up to 7.1. It all works very well. It also remembers what listening mode you have selected for each kind of source audio signal. For example I have it set that when I'm watching TV through my cable box (digital connection to receiver) any channels in 2.0 stereo are converted to DTS Neo:6 and any HT channels in 5.1 stay in their native DD 5.1 format. As I switch channels the SR505 automatically uses the correct listening mode based on the source audio signal. The only negative is that the SR505 makes a 'click' sound whenever it changes listening modes. It's not really annoying but is loud enough to hear.

Regarding video connections the SR505 does allow video switching but does NOT do any conversion between different types of video inputs. For example if you have a DVD and cable box connected to the SR505 with Component inputs then the SR505 will switch the video on it's Component output to your TV. However if the DVD was using S-Video and the cable box Component then the SR505 will NOT convert the S-Video up to Component. It will only output the S-Video over it's S-Video output. The more expensive higher end Onkyo models will do that type of conversion. You just need to decide if that feature is worth the rather large increase in cost. For me it wasn't worth it.

If you read other user reviews on the net for the SR505 it seems the HDMI switching is an area of confusion. The bottom line is that the SR505 will switch ONLY video over HDMI and NOT both video and audio. All this means is that in addition to the HDMI connection you will also need a separate audio connection between the device and the receiver. So between your cable box and SR505 you would need an HDMI connection for video and a coax or optical digital for audio. Full HDMI audio/video switching is available on much more expensive higher end receivers. Again the buyer needs to decide if this feature is worth the extra money.

I have also found the HDMI to be a bit quirky so I decided not to use those connections myself. For example, when I add my cable box connected to the SR505 over HDMI the display on my cable box would flash 'd00' every few seconds whenever the SR505 was turned off. I found the flashing annoying so I connected my cable box directly to my TV. The only other HDMI device I own is an upconverting DVD player. The player doesn't show any usual behavior when connected through the SR505 but I noticed that whenever the receiver is turned off my Sony TV forgets which wide video mode it was in for the DVD player input and I have to change it back manually the next time I play a DVD. I don't know if it's a quirk with my TV or what but it doesn't happen when the DVD player is direct connected to the TV over HDMI so that how I have it connected now. The bottom line is that I tried to use the HDMI switching on the SR505 but because of the unexpected side effects I mentioned above I decided to not use it and went back to direct to TV HDMI connections.

The SR505 includes a nice manual a fairly good remote which will also operate your other devices.

Overall I'm pleased with my purchase. The SR505 is a great receiver for the price. I have no regrets. Recommended.

Buy Onkyo TX-SR505 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) Now

I purchased this receiver because it offered all the features I required. My current setup is 5.1 but this system will allow me to easily transition to 7.1 It comes with three connections. My only gripe was that it required an additional conection for audio. The HDMI cable would only passthru the video signal, audio has to come through a separate connection. There goes the simple setup solution. Other than that, this is a wonderful unit that offers many highend features of more expensive units.

I hooked this up to a new Infinity speaker system (pair of Primus PC362s, PC350 center and 4 CS60 in wall speakers) for a 7.1 setup for my new basement home theater. Sound is absolutely amazing. You hear effects in movies and music that were not there before. My other setup is an older Sony model receiver with older Infinity speakers and this does not even compare.

The need for separate audio setups for HDMI connections is not a huge deal to me, I have the cables already so why not use them. Even so, to spend $30 in cables to save $150 on the receiver (compared to the Onkyo 605) seems like a deal to me. I personally would not be using the analog to HDMI up-conversion so that is another reason to go with the lower cost of the 505.

The auto speaker setup was a snap. Gone are the hours or measuring and tweaking speaker setups!

This system has more than enough wattage to rattle the windows in my house.

IMHO, unless you desperately need the up-conversion of the 605, get this model and put the money you saved into better speakers. Speakers have a MUCH longer life than receivers anyway!

Again Onkyo has produced a low to mid priced unit that produces great sound and has very good functionality . The 2 main limitations on this unit have been mentioned a number of times in other reviews :

1) Only 2 HDMI inputs (1 HDMI output ,you only want 1 output)

In North America most devices come with high quality HDMI outputs nowadays . So a receiver takes all the HDMI devices into it's HDMI inputs and then sends the HDMI signal over the 1 HDMI output connected to the TV (HDMI output only accepts signal from HDMI inputs , component inputs will have to go out over component output). So you have only 1 connection to the TV (simple!) and switch between input devices in the unit ..HDMI 1 you're watching the DVD , HDMI 2 you're watching the HDMI enabled cable box .

As this unit has 2 inputs you can only attach 2 devices via HDMI ( fine with me = DVD and satellite box) . Extra devices will need to be atttached via another high quality input ..like component , and go to the TV via another quality output like component . Not a big deal but more cabling and switching TV inputs on the TV .

2) HDMI passthrough only

HDMI signal comes into the receiver from your DVD player say ..but you can't split the audio signal out and play it at that point as this unit just passes the whole signal (audio and video) to the TV . So you have 2 choices to get the HDMI audio back to the unit for playback :

a) Let the TV split out the audio and send it back to the unit over digital (optical) cable . Set the unit to "listen" to digital audio in .

Then ALL HDMI audio sent to the TV will play back over digial audio in . Simple ..IF your TV has a digital audio out . You'll want a high quality/fast digital/optical cable .

b) Send all sound to the unit via another audio input e.g component inputs on the unit and set the unit to "listen" to component audio . Works if your devices have the outputs but it means more cabling / less simplicity .

Summary

For around 250 bucks this unit is a steal bearing in mind the caveats above . If it doesn't work for you for those reasons then the 605 removes those limitations for 200 bucks more (and it's a little taller) .

My first receiver with the auto speaker setup feature--very cool. Has plenty of power for my basic set of JBL bookshelf 5.1 speakers with Yamaha subwoofer. Note: this version does NOT up-convert signals from one input type to another. Thus different sources (component, HDMI, composite, etc) must be switched at the TV. The 575 and up seem to convert signals if you need to do that. Plenty of inputs, automatically set up for my 5.1 system although it can do 7.1. Can do stereo in another room but uses two of the 7.1 channels to do it. I am very satisfied with this unit, good value in my opinion.

ezGear ezWake Alarm Clock Radio with Dock for iPod (White)

ezGear ezWake Alarm Clock Radio with Dock for iPod
  • Works with all iPods with dock connectors; Charges your iPod as it plays
  • Connects to TV, computer or stereo system; Video out allows video playback on your TV; Data port allows you to sync music with your computer
  • Runs on batteries (eight D) for portability; Battery backup keeps clock set during blackouts
  • Wake up to your iPod, buzzer, radio, or an external audio device; Sleep function fades out, alarm fades in
  • ezWake 22-function remote control included; Bright LED display with dimmer

First the low down:

Recommended as an iPod player with a bright blue clock, but not for its complex alarm and unreliable remote. I may return it.

Next the good news:

Impressive sound, convenient next station scan, iPod Nano second generation compatibility, white appleesque design and iPod controlling remote with many functions.

Now the bad news:

The set up for this thing takes forever. I had to use the instructions for everything. Successfully set up the time and presets, but not the alarm. It only has a few poorly labeled buttons on the unit with multiple functions for each depending on when, how many times and how long you hold them -and good luck memorizing the formulas. Even the sleep timer is unnecessarily complex. The AM and FM wire antennas are annoying. The reception is only good, not great, with the wires crawling up your wall. The blue light lights up the whole room until you put it in standby mode with nothing playing.

The unit doesn't respond to the remote unless it is perfectly pointed. Some functions can only be done with the remote. All the remote buttons are the same shape. So they are hard to memorize or use in the dark.

Good luck operating this radio/alarm. I have an electrical engineering degree and normally never have any trouble operating anything. But, this radio is so poorly designed, it makes it extremely difficult to operate. The instructions need to be kept close by for the convoluted ways to set it up and operate it. Then the iPod works only after resetting it frequently. So forget about waking up to the ipod.

This is the worst piece of equipment I have ever owned.

Duracell Ultra AA Alkaline Batteries, 8-Count Package (Pack of 2)

Duracell Ultra AA Alkaline Batteries, 8-Count PackageI use these ultra batteries with my LED hi lumen output bicycle and flashlights. Most bike lights and flashlights eat battery life at least the hi lumen output ones do like 90 to 220 lumens in this case. The regular AAA batteries drained really fast like 30 minutes or so of use. Unless you have the hi end "CREE" bulbs in your device you should invest in these. For "lo stream" or lo usage devices like your remote control any old battery kirkland or generic works fine life wise but hi usage devices require the name brand duracell types and in this case ultras. Digital cameras also should get ultras in them unless you want to risk a dead battery.

I have tested Duracell Ultra Advanced batteries in my digital camera and my wireless mouse. In both cases, they lasted substantially less time than plain old Duracell batteries. Why pay more for less? These batteries are a scam. Get plain old Duracell batteries instead and save yourseld the disappointment.

These ultra batteries are the perfect thing for digital cameras that pull a lot of power, as they do last a lot longer than regular alkaline batteries. Good price.

Duracell uses same Packaging for these Ultra Advance Alkaline batteries as it does for its Ultra Lithium batteries. This is Marketing trick to confuse the customer. The CR123 batteries Duracell sell which says Ultra on it is a Lithium Battery & does last longer. My Alarm company uses them in their products. But to Label their Alkaline batteries with the SAME Packaging and call them "ultra" when they are NOT Lithium batteries sound like bait & switch to me.. They are just average alkaline batteries with an expensive price on them. Now if you get them at a Big Box wholesale club at a discount, them maybe but if you are buying just too at a Drug store the price is downright OUTRAGEOUS !

That is how they make their money...

Seth Thomas Silver Tone Metal and Black Rubber Case Grey with Digital LCD Dial Round Multifunction D

Seth Thomas Silver Tone Metal and Black Rubber Case Grey with Digital LCD Dial Round Multifunction Desk Clockgood overall clock, not currently using it's alarm feature (but it did work when I tested it out). It is at a comfortable angle for time viewing wether sitting at, or standing near the desk or table it sits on, crisp readout can be seen across a small room easily.

Battery operated, so highly portable can place about anywhere on the desk or table.

Agree with another reviewer the silver face (top only, not sides of the metal) has an unusual crackle-pattern white film across the entire surface (manufacturing process?) which did not buff off with a clean cloth but I will probably eventually try metal polish on it.

Odd because the sides of the metal ring are perfectly clean, just the top has the intermittent film and it's all a single metal piece.

Does not affect the operation of the clock.

I have been looking for this type of desk clock to put on my reception desk for a while. The clock has interesting features I was unaware of; like being able to set the time to two separate time zones at the same time (the smaller 10:00 time you see in the picture can be set so you can view a different time zone than the time above it), this is done by turning the silver rim around the face of the clock. The product itself is not large, so it fits on my desk well with enough room for the sign in book, but the numbers are large enough that they are easy to read. The only thing 'bad' I would say about it is, the silver face looks like a cheaper material than the pictures shows. I was thinking it was going to be more shiny, but other then that I love the product.

Bought this for the bedroom, the steel casing outer ring which gives it the look has got dirt all over it which I couldn't clean with water. Will be trying chemicals now.

I have got this to India (and there is no Indian city as World Time). So I am basically stuck with London and London.

It looks decent, but definitely not worth the money I bought it for, better clocks are available for same price.
