Duracell Coppertop Alkaline Batteries

Duracell Coppertop 9-Volt Batteries, 4-CountI'm pretty used to buying batteries online and finding they had been made long before I ordered them (had some CR123 with experations the next month from another vendor). In at least my case, my batteries from this vendor show a production date of 3/30/10...and I ordered them on April 18th. You can't get any younger batteries (exp is Mar2016). I'll be checking this distrbutor out for the rest of my battery needs.

The 4 batteries arrived in 4 small ziplocs rather than in sealed Duracell packaging as shown in the picture. I have no idea if they are new or used.

The batteries were covered in an oily goo. I couldn't tell if it was from the batteries or not, but some of them were discolored and slightly misshapen. Not what I expect from a brand name battery!

Picked up a pair of Duracell AA batteries on a vacation when my rechargeables died. The batteries started leaking after about two months of light use in the camera, and the clear liquid that came out couldn't all be cleaned from the camera, which now refuses to turn on with new batteries despite it being in near perfect condition otherwise.

I am in the market for a new camera... and I don't plan to buy Duracell again (I'll remember an extra set of rechargeables next time).

Edit, 12/14/2010:

I have gotten a bit of flack for putting a negative review on these batteries (just 1 out of 5 helpful, which is pretty typical when putting a negative review on Amazon). My review is to note that I got a lemon product. I realize it is probably rare, and there are plenty of folks who review the batteries who got a good set. But so long as there are lemons, there should be an occasional negative review on a product.

Reviews are almost entirely based on anecdotal evidence. Some folks happen to get a bad product (a lemon), so we rate the product we got, not the product we might have gotten. Other folks who purchased a good product (not a lemon) do the same. Looking at all the reviews, you get an overall impression of the integrity and utility of the product.

Batteries were purchased in June 2012, but product received had expiration date of Feb 2012. Also they did not arrive in the advertised packaging, so am not sure if they are genuine. Could be good deal but make sure you check the dates when you receive the product.

Honeywell TE532ELW Long Range Weather Forecaster with Humidity and Atomic Clock

Honeywell TE532ELW Long Range Weather Forecaster with Humidity and Atomic ClockI am not at all impressed with this honeywell product. It is not at all intuitive as to how to change settings, and if you hit the wrong button when an alarm goes off, it puts you into reset mode and you have to reset everything. Temp changed reading from F to C and will not go back to read in Farenheit, and it often has false readings on the outside sensor, showing sun or partial sun with 98% humidity and rain going off. Overall, I rate this honeywell product as a lemon and would send it back if I had not thrown away the mandatory packaging and original info that came with it. Maybe honeywell needs to go back to made in USA for quality, instead of following suit with everyone who is getting their products made in China.I would gladly pay more for something if it was user friendly and it worked! This thing is junk and I will be looking for a replacement.

This remote thermometer and receiver indeed work over a longer distance ("range") than some similar products. It also has an alarm function which alerts, if any remote temperature gets beyond your specified high or low.

All such remotes have distance limits. Many others say 100 feet, this one says 300ft. All get attenuated significantly, when passing through various thicknesses of walls, etc. For me, this one works where other brands did not, e.g. from inside a underground irrigation control box.

Note that the same one alarm range for remote temperature applies to each remote thermometer. And the base reporting unit can monitor up to three remote thermometer sensors. If you want more than one remote, to get it, it may be worth buying more than one set of base+remote. I did not find just an extra remote alone at a lower price. This has the fringe benefit that then all sensors broadcast to all base stations. All my units were calibrated equally, so having only one alarm range works fine.

It also has a weather "forecast" feature over the next 12 hours, but this is not driven by barometric readings, nor by weather radio, but is only an estimate based on temperature and humidity. Supposedly correct 78% of the time, and in any case fun to watch the icons for sun and rain.

This weather forecaster works perfectly. It synched right up the first time, and is accurate and easy to read. The backlight is great. Pay attention to the dimensions -it's a little big for a nightstand.

I've had it about 2 years. I put the outside part about 80 ft. away under the eave of my garage. I mounted the inside part on a wall about 6 ft. from the kitchen window, where it has a right-edge straight-shot view of the remote. The kitchen window has a ceramic ledge, and every now and then I put a pot or bag of sugar or something on the ledge it may 'lose' my signal from outside.

Initial setup takes some study, because each press control does 2 or 3 different things. If signal from outside is lost, press and hold the Down button for several seconds to search fresh. It polls about every 15 min. otherwise.

When it gets harder to read and loses signal a lot, change the main set batteries. There's no other warning than that. If it doesn't pick up the time at daylight savings, I put it in the car when I go to work. When I get home it's got it. Perhaps it's having less 'roof' between itself and the signal, or getting a clear shot to the satellite at some point.

It defaults to west coast time zone, if the minutes are right but the hour isn't, the time zone needs to be modified. Put the manual in a drawer for reference, one will never remember the key combos from use to use. I wrote some common things on a post-it and affixed it to the back.

The barometer feature is kind of useless. I'd prefer a number readout rather than have it guess based on barometer reading whether it's raining, partly cloudy, etc. It's wrong a lot of the time, since there is never really a perfect relationship between air pressure and weather, only a statistical one (i.e. at this reading it rains 70% of the time). I like it because I had a sliver of wall about 8" wide to hang something, and I get clock, indoor-outdoor weather and month-day.

This unit is great. It is compact and takes up little space, but provides all the information needed for weather. It has a good display, for those of us who need to see "big" characters on the screen. It actually is very acurate according to comparisons with the weather bureau. We think it is an extremely good buy for the quality.

Thee product itself is awesome. I got the dock, remote, charger, everything. The display is clear, and it comes with all the features it says. If you read the instructions, it's easy to program everything. The speakers them self are good. They satisfy my needs for a decent bass, treble, and good overall sound for a low price.

The only reason why this isn't a 5, is because of the delivery. While the product arrived at my house on time, the box sustained heavy damage, and I opened it to find part of the speaker dented in. While it still being able to play with great sound shows the good quality, the delivery itself was terrible. I mean, for it to have half of the speaker dented is completely unacceptable. But, I'm lazy and didn't send it back since the only damage was "beauty" damage.

Overall, as long as you don't get a bad delivery service, this product is awesome!

iLive ITP100B Two Channel Bar Speaker System with Docking and Recharging Station for iPhone and iPod

iLive ITP100B Two Channel Bar Speaker System with Docking and Recharging Station for iPhone and iPod
  • High quality sound speaker bar with remote
  • iPod and iPhone docking station
  • FM radio with alarm
  • Digital clock
  • Gradual wake feature

I am using this as a speaker bar for my home theater system that is on my covered deck. I wanted something I could use for my I-Pod as well as amplify sound for my projection TV. I also wanted something I could easily mount on a wall in a small space that I had available.

This works with both my 2nd and 3rd generation I-Pod Touch. It has red/white RCA plugs where I have audio input from my Direct TV box.

Even at higher volumes the sound is great with no significant distortions. The sound is full with without a tinny quality. Bass is not very full but I would not expect it to be.

When buying this unit I was looking for multi-functionality. This unit will mainly be used for playing tunes during parties and for sporting event sound. If I was doing more movies and needed more theater sound for I would have gone with a Vizo sound bar that I have seen/heard at one of the warehouse stores.

Update 11/28/2010

I have been using this for almost 5 months now

I'm still pleased with overall function and sound quality.

I have not attempted to 'max out' the volume but for my deck (which is 16x25 feet) this provides more than enough volume.

Again I want to stress that if you are looking for high quality sound for a home theater where movies are being played consider a different sound bar. This unit provides great sound for general music and sports -it does not provide good base.

However for such a small speaker it does provide good general sound and good amplification with out hissing or a tinny quality.

For my purposes this is an excellent product at a very good price.

This dock will NOT play whatever audio is sent to it from the iPhone. It only supports the Apple "iPod" app. You cannot use this dock with Pandora or any other music app. I called the company's technical support line and they confirmed that the device is designed to ONLY work with Apple's music app. I've never run into this limitation with any other device. It's a deal breaker for me and I'll be returning it to the store.

I have a 32" LCD in my kitchen. When I would watch that TV through the speakers I would have to turn the volume up very high just to understand the dialog but it was just too loud at that point. The audio was just not very clear through the TV speakers so I wanted something simple and cheap because it was for a kitchen TV, not for the big screen entertainment. I just wanted clearer audio. This soundbar fit the bill perfect. It fell right in the price range I was looking in and it delivers clear audio so that I don't have to crank up the volume to understand the dialog.

Oh yeah, I can charge my iPhone on it! You can also play audio from your iPhone/iPod through the unit but I haven't messed with this feature. I have just used it to charge my phone. This feature had no bearing on my purchase decision but its a cool added bonus. If you don't have an iPhone or iPod don't let the fact that it has this feature discourage you from buying the unit because you can keep the charger closed and never know it has an iPhone charger. I do have an iPhone and I would still purchase this unit without the charger so you shouldn't feel that this item isn't for you if you don't have one.

This is a great item if you just want clearer audio than your TV speakers deliver if you just watch news, sitcoms, documentaries, etc. I don't think I would recommend this item for watching a lot of blu-rays. You need to go full out surround for that. Although, I haven't put it to the test with movies and loud bumping music but I seriously doubt it could handle that very well.

One more point is that there is no digital audio input but if you listened to what I said above, then that shouldn't be a problem.

Not sure why people are saying that they can't use this with Pandora. It works just fine with my iPhone 4. I can access all my music on my iPod and I have no problems with Pandora. Sound quality is fine for the bedroom which is where I've set this up. The clock has three dimmer levels so you can tone it down at night and it doesn't take up a ton of retail space on the dresser. I'm pretty happy with this.

I bought this sound bar to fit underneath my Dell monitor at work, after my desktop speakers gave up the ghost after 10+ years of service. The bar rests directly below my 23" widescreen monitor, with just enough sticking out that I can press the buttons on the top.

By its appearance, it looks pretty slick. The built-in clock is a nice thing to have, and the fact that it auto-dims when the audio portion is turned off is also nice for home use. Within minutes, the glossy black surface showed finger smears, as if my kids had rubbed their grubby hands all over it.

Soundwise, I would describe it as passable. Low frequency sound is just not there, and I've been wanting to supplement it with an underdesk subwoofer, but it would need to have an audio loop-through, since the bar speaker does not have a line output.

The bar speaker has both RCA and 1/8" jacks for auxiliary inputs, such as a PC, though the nomenclature is odd. One is "LINE IN", though technically, they both are line inputs. So, one would hit the Source button until sound comes out. Note that switching from the internal iPod dock to one of the Line In inputs results in different sound volumes, which could be startling, if not unexpected.

The iPod dock seems to work fine with my iPod Touch 4G, even though a docking insert for that model was not included. The iPod seems to rest against the front face of the speaker bar, which stabilizes it from loosening its connection to the dock connector. It plays, it charges, but gee do I wish it had a USB pass-through, so I could operate the iPod from my PC's iTunes software!

I have had this product for approximately a month, and experienced no failures of any kind. I have not tried the handheld remote control, which has a few additional features.

In summary, it does what it is supposed to, and is a great fit for those who want to clean up their desktop, but acoustically leaves much to be desired.

This is a perfect product. The only issue i had with it is that it support a limited range of USBs, so you might get a compatible on for this audio.

Kaito Emergency Radio with LED Flashlight, KA011

Kaito Emergency Radio with LED Flashlight, KA011
  • AM/FM/SW radio with wide frequency coverage and digital tuning
  • Four power sources: Solar, dynamo, battery, AC adaptor
  • Built-in automatic battery charger, Super bright Super bright LED flashlight & alarm clock
  • Built-in efficient DYNAMO CRANKING SYSTEM can also charge the internal NiMH battery pack
  • 30 days money back guarantee and 1 year limited warranty

This radio is about what I expected and wanted. It is by no means a fancy unit. The case seems relatively cheap and fragile. However, it does what I want and I am satisfied. The white LED is not, of course, as bright as a 'real' flashlight, but it works for me. The tuning is analog and so-so, but again works OK. I don't understand the power selection switch: Batt, Dyn, Solar. Seems like the radio should be smart enough to handle the power source automatically. Maybe a switch to disable the batts from being used unless you really want to would be logical. Overall, I like it.

Buy Kaito Emergency Radio with LED Flashlight, KA011 Now

I purchased this little radio two years ago for use during hurricane season. I actually use it a lot more, almost every week.

The Kaito should never fail you for lack of power. It can run on batteries, with an AC adapter, by using the hand crank and by solar cells. As long as there is some sunlight, the solar cells charge the batteries for hours of use. I leave the radio in a south facing window letting the solar cells charge it up during the day, so it is always ready.

During Hurricane Ike, the little Kaito did exactly what it was supposed to do. It provided news and information until power was restored days later.

Now, sound quality is ok, but do not expect high fidelity audio. This is an inexpensive emergency radio. The tuner is difficult to use. Even with the digital readout, the tuning knob doesn't allow much fine tuning since the actual tuner is analog. The unit lacks automatic frequency control so FM station tuning drifts over time. I haven't used the shortwave much. Again, tuning is tricky. It is much like the early transistor radios I grew up with in that respect. However, even with those limitations, it does work reliably and is able to pull in stations from out of area.

A small LED flashlight built into the side of the unit can provide emergency lighting even when the batteries run down. Just give the crank a few whirls.

So, yes it works as advertised with and without batteries or plug-in power.

Update August 22, 2012

The Kaito is the little radio that could! Originally I had considered it disposable, because I didn't expect it to last this long. This is hurricane season #5. It's still providing reliable portable radio whenever needed. Everything still works as if new. I am impressed.

I've only had this radio for a couple weeks so far. Using alkaline batteries as well as just using the internal batteries, charged from the included AC adapter, I've been pretty impressed with the reception I get listening to this radio inside my home. Operation on AM and FM bands is pretty easy, with shortwave listening requiring a delicate touch to really fine tune a station using the one knob. I was able to listen to a number of foreign broadcasts using the included wire antenna. The hand crank dynamo in this radio feels pretty sturdy, but I think it would take quite a while to really charge the radio using just that. I used the crank for about 2 minutes when I first took this radio out of the packaging and I only got a couple minutes of radio at low volume from that. The instructions even say that using the crank to charge fully depleted internal batteries will take a significant amount of time. It will work though. The one thing I haven't really experimented with has been the solar panel. If I get the opportunity to give the panel a decent test I'll update this review.

I only give this 4 out of 5 stars because even at this price point it would have been nice to have some better feeling switches and knobs on this radio. I recommend this radio if you're a casual listener, want a radio that doesn't break the bank, offers the ability to be used even though you're out of batteries and is simple to operate.

You shouldn't consider this radio if you're serious about DX'ing. You also shouldn't consider this radio if you want to use it as an alarm clock, as the clock resets when you change power sources, and there's no buzzer setting, which means you have to leave the radio volume at a high enough to wake you. In my case that would preclude any bedtime listening to get me to sleep.

I researched solar powered AM/FM/SW radios until I was blue in the face and eventually decided on this one.Unfortunately,it wouldn't charge correctly by A/C power right out of the box. When I eventually did get the radio charged,I was greeted with horrible FM and SW reception.AM reception was actually quite good and I believe the LED flashlight could run for days if needed.I returned the KA011 and purchased an Eton FR-160 which is AM/FM/Weather and highly rated here at Amazon and elsewhere. My search for a usable, affordable solar powered shortwave radio goes on. :-(

The device works fine. The problem came in mounting it under the kitchen cabinet, as the screws were not long enough to reach. Consequently it looks weird because it sits cockeyed at an angle. Need to have longer screws for mounting.

Won't play many of my discs. Not sure what the issue is, but it is very frustrating. I do like the MP3 option.

This is the second clock radio I've purchased in one week that had problems. The button needed to set the time only worked once. The time was a minute off and when I went back to fix it the button would no longer work.

I realize the powers that be have decided we are all supposed to use (and only use) our cell phones as alarms, but I can't be the only person who does not want to spend 24/7 attached to a cell phone. I would be nice if manufacturers and retailers actual gave people more than one option in life.

An inexpensive device … not too bad but problems make it unusable for the intended application.

Radio reception is a little weak which is to be expected for an inexpensive unit. I live in the country so more sensitivity would be nice but it works.

The remote is a little funky but if you use it enough you get used to it.

I have not tried the CD player yet. As I recall from the Amazon blurb it is supposed to play CD-Rs and CD-RWs; I had it in my mind that it would play MP3s burned to a CD but what I see in the manual does not look encouraging. TO BE CLEAR, that was an ASSUMBTION on my part and I do not detract from the device because I assumed something not in fact. I am just stating that here to assuage anyone else's misconception.

The speakers are what you would expect on a unit at this price. You can hear them.

My main beef with the unit is the volume control. At level ‘0' you hear nothing (as expected) at the next level, ‘1', there is sufficient volume that I must turn the unit off when I am on the phone. It is not ‘blasting'—it doesn't rattle anything in the room, but there is no volume setting suitable for ‘background music'.

Nothing is ‘so bad' with this unit that I would send it back; On the other hand, nor would I buy it again either. I will swap it for the one I have in the garage that has good volume settings; that one will work fine in my study and this new unit will work fine out there where more volume is appropriate.

Minus one star for lack of radio sensitivity. Minus two stars for the volume issue because that one really is a engineering bungle.
