This will be a brief review.

I ordered two for my kids. One had a loose battery--you can hear it moving/bumping around the device's insides when shaking it side-to-side. This one worked without issue but I sent it back since electronics are not supposed to have that "feature" built-in. I will keep the second one for one more week and then plan on sending it back because the fully charged battery completely drained after 3 days of non-use. (Note: lithium batteries are supposed to only drain 5-10% per MONTH.)

I am receptive to chalking up these two experiences as "flukes" because, when it worked, the device worked very, very well for a technology product at this price point.

BATTERY: Fully charged, using headphones, and set at its brightest--I was trying to simulate a long drive or flight environment--the device ran for a little over 5 hours before running out of juice. However, after fully charging it overnight and letting it sit 3 days unplugged from the charging cable and transformer, the battery lasted only 30 minutes before the device shut off.

DISPLAY: During the day, anything other than its brightest setting was not acceptable. At night, watching movies at the midway brightness was fine. Movies played without any pixelation. I used HandBrake to convert the movies; compression setting was H.264. File formats were MP4(MV4) and MKV.

SOUND: Sound through the headphones depended on the quality of the headphones. It sounded fine on inexpensive Sony kid headphones. Sounded great on my Bose headphones. Don't expect too much from the built-in speakers.

FILE TRANSFER: The device installed as an external drive. Simple drag-and-drop of files from my PC. A quirk of the Coby MP977 is that there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to how it organized files. Not alpha-numeric. Not by creation time. So I had to hunt down the title that I wanted to play.

OVERALL: The device appears to be a solidly built device. It's about the size and weight of a nice GPS unit. Movies played very well. Music files played nicely without issue. Menu navigation took about a few minutes to figure out. File management: you can't get any more straight forward than drag-and-drop. At this price point, I would have kept the last device. But the battery fully discharging after 3 days of non-use is simply unacceptable.

I ended up keeping this video player and I changed my rating to 4 stars and the title of this review from "A novel and ok product" to "A truly family friendly product."

My 3-year old loved this device too much so I kept it longer and now he thinks that it is his "iPad." (This device was purchased for his use so we have his videos on it.) I continued to test the battery life AND I am left with the conclusion that my initial "bad experience" was likely my own fault. Unused, the battery has remained near full for almost two weeks. I suppose it drains a little when I power it up and run through the menus just to see if I can leave a feature hanging. (I suspected that the original bad experience with the drained battery was due to the application not shutting down.)

I would have given this device 5 stars if the software to run it and the navigation buttons were more intuitive. Again, I would have preferred that the display were brighter (like B&N's Nook and iPad's IPS screen) but, then, the price point for this player wouldn't be where it is currently at. So...the only faults I can find with it are the software which is very basic and not intuitive, and the navigation buttons (power, options, menu, etc.) could also be more intuitive--something as simple as different shaped buttons to indicate the differing functions.

bought this for my mom to have a small, portable, light, inexpensive tablet to have vacation pics & videos handy for viewing. I set it up for her & have messed with it off & on for a few weeks now. Overall, if you are just looking for a very good, basic multi-media player(mp3s, videos, pics, e-books), this gets the job done as advertised.

the good...

* good screen(box says display is 800x480 with 1080p output via hdmi), seems durable. i'm used to touchscreens so many times i've absent-mindedly touched the screen to get it to do something. it has held up well despite my bone-headedness.

* mp3s & pics play well, no problem. plays videos continuously, no need to start & re-start. plays multi-video formats out of the box. some high-end tablets cant/wont even do that. e-book reader and fm-tuner options as well(haven't used either extensively to be honest)

* haven't tested the hdmi-to-tv option yet, but it includes an hdmi cable for it(along with a usb cable, power adapter, protective pouch, stereo earphones, and a remote). instruction booklet included is thicker than the 1-sheet instructions for the big tablets.

* multiple useful features: micro sd card slot for expandable memory(box says max 16gb support), hdmi out, video out, usb port for easy "drag & drop" to your device.

the 'iffy'...

unintuitive controls. not difficult or complicated, just unintuitive. but you should be able to get used to them.

mp3s displayed by title(and features album art and basic visualizer), pics show up as pics, but videos are just listed with no indication of which is which. maybe there is a way to name them or better identify them but i havent figured it out.

battery life is only a few hrs or so for heavy video use. in fairness, it charges pretty quickly and actually charges while usb connected as you're transferring stuff.

amazon description says "gaming apps". where?

kinda thick, but very light in its defense.

no internet, touchscreen, cameras, or apps. not really a con at all, just clarifying.

(note: i bought mine used/like new on amazon from warehouse deals for $68+free shipping. got it in a week. done business with them before and will do so in the future. the coby 4gb 7" multimedia tablet and 'warehouse deals' vendor both recommended)

this thing is great. It plays everything i threw at it. If you wanna rip a dvd vob files directly to the device and play it, it will play it. No lag whatsoever. Subtitles, great. I really cant say much bc i'm too suprised at it's versatility. I'd ramble all day about hlw great it is. BATT. LIFE.-----SO far on one charge, i have gotten over 5 hours of play and stil have 22 percent left. 33 percent was four hours of watching. Great product

The product is good like other reviewers have suggested, and it takes most formats you throw at it, and will play them for you without any hassle. The only problem is, the build feels very cheap, and the buttons look like they will stop working in a day or two. Well, that's exactly what happened with our piece. One of the buttons stopped working, and its just a useless piece of device for us now -even though we loved it while it was working. I missed the return date BY A DAY! Will return it anyway as it is of no use for me in this state. I would go for something higher-end -something that's built to last, not something that lasts just the warranty period.

This unit was awesome on specs and on initial use. I purchased this around April 2011 I used this primarily as a player for the kids, bought a mount for the car, loaded up a few mp4 videos, and the kids were happy for long drives.

I was also amazed that this player could decode H.264 MKV format files for playback. (My Motorola Xoom at the time was having trouble with HD content)

However after 4 months of use, the charger / USB port broke, and that was it. Without power, it's just one big piece of paper-weight. I checked the warranty on this, and it's valid for only for 3 months. I originally paid around $100 for this, and spent an additional $50 on accessories like the mount and the Micro SD cards.

I was great at the start, but I feel let down by the the cheap build. I guess it landed up being more like a 4 month rental.

I bought this earlier this week.

Pros: Good sounds quality. LOVE the remote! Nap feature is handy. Nature sounds help drown out my neighbor playing his TV too loud :-) Projection is clear enough to see in the morning w/o my contacts.

Cons: There is a weird high pitch sound when the nature souund is playing and the projection is off. When I turned the projection on it stopped. It is not there when the radio or iPod is playing.

Overall I would but again.

I wanted to upgrade my prior alarm clock that played AM/FM radio and CD. I particularly wanted something that I could connect my iPod to, and this was definately it. It has a remote control also, so its perfect from a distance. The nature sounds are a great addition, too. You can set your alarm to play your iPod, nature sounds, AM/FM radio, or just beep like crazy. It has a projector as well so you can bounce the time off a wall or the ceiling. The LCD screen has two setting, bright and brighter. BUt it's a dark blue that adds a nice ambiance to the room. All and all its a great product. It serves its purpose. Could it be improved, yes. Downside is that it doesn't charge the iPod, but my car does so thats fine. Its not like I listen to it on the dock 24/7. The LCD screen isn't visible from certain angles, but the projected time takes care of that. I'd highly recommend if you're looking to upgrade your old-school alarm clockespecially if you have an iPod.

As long as the unit is turned on, there is this weird high-pitch noise. Very annoying unless you turn the volume to 0 or very high. DON'T BUY THIS!!!

I purchased this for 59.99 while in Texas and brought home to NJ. Despite indications that it handled all IPods, it would not charge my IPod Touch. I emailed customer service and received a response pretty much washing their hands of it and stating that they will not give refunds etc on products not bought directly from them...not sure how long they have been in business but i feel that with this type of inconsiderate attitude, they won't be for much longer.

I found out a week later that it was eventually reduced to $39.99. so apparently, like water, the price is seeking it own level--down with all the other crappy IPod accessories they have on the market, which do not work with newer IPods.

I received this off my Amazon wishlist for Christmas. When I set it up at home, it appeared to work fine though the buttons seemed a little cheap and the interchangeable docks fit into the receptacle a little funny. I packed it back into its original packing and brought it into work to keep on my desk, and suddenly the thing was bricked. It won't even turn on anymore, even though the ac adapter is getting power from the outlet and is plugged into the unit. I am returning it and plan on looking for another solution.

Most of the criticisms I see here are because a lack of features, IMHO they're fair enough for the money. Others complain because it's not 100% seamlessly integrated with the iPod but that's unrealistic as it probably will never be. I use mine to play white noise while sleeping and I also use the alarm. You can use either an alarm on the iPod itself or the radio. I have a 8G Nano 3G. I have no complaints about the sound. For my white noise MP3's, I lowered the playback volume so when the alarm sounds, the other songs are louder by default.

What I REALLY like about it are two things: 1) LARGE LCD display I can see without glasses and 2) the LCD back light dims to 0%. You can still see the display, just no bright back light.

FYI: DO NOT leave your iPod permanently attached, it will run down the battery to the point it won't recharge. I just remove mine everyday and set beside the unit.

All in all I like this item, good sound and small footprint. Oh, there's also a input jack for other devices. Sometimes I watch videos on my iPod touch and I use it for amplification.

I like this product and it's money well spent.

My primary reason for this purchase was to charge my phone on a dock with a basic alarm clock.

I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of the sound other than the ability to play music. I don't understand why some people expect this device to have spectacular sound when it is clearly a tiny single speaker. Come on people, this is an alarm clock not a surround sound system. For the size the sound is acceptable.

Pros

dimmable display (even down to no backlight) I consider this a feature because sometimes I don't like the backlight glaring in my face while I'm trying to fall asleep

compact design probably the smallest alarm clock I've owned

docks with iPhone case I have a case on my iPhone and don't like when I have to remove the case to dock it

sync time from iPhone single push of the button in order to pull the clock time from the iPhone

Cons

multiple alarms would be nice as I don't always want to wake up at the same time every day

some of the buttons have multiple functions which while this isn't bad for a compact alarm, the separation of some of the functions would make for easier use

the price it is a bit pricey for an alarm clock but it's definitely not the most expensive in its class

Overall I give it 5 stars because it does everything I'd expect in a bare bones alarm clock with an iPhone/iPod dock.

does what it claims to do.. the time actually is saved by the batteries when the power goes out.. The dimmer is very very nice, as my previous alarm clock had an 'auto-dimmer' which stayed on the 'retna-burning' bright mode all night. plays ipod/iphone just fine. not expensive.. what else can you want in an affordable alarm clock?

I've been using mine for about 2 months now, with my iPhone4.

PROs: I like the gradual increase in volume for the wake up, and that you can set it in sleep mode at a much lower volume-the original louder settign is used when the alarm fires.

CONS: The provided adapter for the iPhone won't take an Iphone with teh apple-provided rubber wraparound cover-the one they give away to combat all the bad press about poor signal strenght if you touch the antenna. It is a real annnoyance to have to take the coger off every time I want to dock the phone-I'm afraid all that stretching is eventually going to cause my cover to tear/fail.

Also, while the display is dimmable, it is still too bright when on the lowest setting. I wish it had "extra low" to go with the existing "high, medium, low" sort of settings.

The cons stop me from giving it a higher mark. I paid $39 for mine, which is a fair price, I'd say.

I got this iHome in white on black Friday for around $47 and am over-all very pleased with it. I use an iPhone 4S and this iHome charges it without using the iPhone 4 insert (which would've made me have to take the cover off my iPhone everytime I wanted to use it.) The dimming options are great, you get three choices of brightness and one that just turns the LCD completely off which is nice if you get annoyed with that sort of thing.

If you have an alarm set on your iPhone, the sound will play through the iHome, which I was very pleased with.

The nap feature is also a very nice perk as I used to use the timer on my iPhone, but will now be using this when I take a nap. You can choose a nap time of 15, 30, 60, or 90 minutes.

The set-up and instructions are very straight-forward and easy to follow.

The only complaint I have with this is that it didn't come with a remote, but for a $50 iHome I'm very pleased with the product I got for my money. This would make a great present for a high school or college student (which I am), but I can imagine any age being happy and pleased with this product.

Elgin 2-in. LED Auto Time Set Alarm Clock

I expected that this auto set clock would use the atomic clock to make sure that it's accurate, but it does not seem to do so. I bought 10 of these for a facility and they are different by a couple of minutes so they aren't super accurate. Additionally the LED was out on one of the 10. Overall, I suppose the price is right, but I expected a bit higher quality.

I did not read the description carefully enough. I thought this clock would set itself automatically based on a radio signal. That is not the case. It has a built in clock run by a button battery. When power is returned after an outage, it will use the time from the internal clock (which could just as easily be inaccurate).

Also, the display tends to be a little too bright at night even at the dim setting. The red and blue LEDs and the unnecessary information (I know that I am in the Central time zone, even at 3 in the morning) make this look somewhat like a pinball machine.

The Elgin 4537 LCD Alarm Clock is simply the best example of horrible design I've ever encountered in my decades in electronics and computers. The sleek front has three buttons: Up, Mode and Down. "Up" and "Down" control setting of the clock (but only when certain switches on the back are set in particular positions); the "Mode" button is a) not connected to anything, b) performs no function, and c) is not mentioned in the laughable "user manual," which is written in a language that vaguely resembles English.

The back of the unit has no less than five different switches, with 17 different settings among them. The "PMCE" switch (with four positions) sets the clock of Pacific, Mountain, Central or Eastern time...but nothing says that; you get to figure it out for yourself.

The setting and enabling of the alarm is confusing to me, and I'm an experienced systems designer. After I set the alarm, it took me hours to figure out you have to set a switch on the back to "TIME SET" to be able to see the current time. Confusing much?

What's good about it? A huge Snooze button on top; I never use the Snooze function. The clock automatically sets itself to current time when plug into A.C., if you're incapable of doing that yourself (and, if you like to run your clock a few minutes fast, as I do, you're not allowed to do that).

Don't waste your time on this good looking clock. The operational features will drive you nuts...if you ever figure them out. There's a reason it's cheap!

Awesome clock from Elgin. When I received this clock after purchase I took it out of package and plugged it in. The clock set itself. The power has gone off in our house a few times because of storms. I went to check this clock and it had already set itself to the correct time. Thats what I call trouble free. The large numbers are also cool.

This clock arrived with the faceplate having fallen out, but it appeared to be undamaged and I snapped it back in. I was disappointed that the numbers weren't as bright as expected, unevenly illuminated, and the colon between the hour and the minutes is a very dim, steady (unblinking) blue.

The biggest problem is that the clock does not wake me up. When the alarm works, it's not very loud. But most of the time, it doesn't work at all. I've set it four times and it has not gone off at all three of those times. Twice, I overslept an hour. The alarm was still set but silent in all three cases when I awoke after the set time. I will have to buy still another alarm clock, because I cannot depend on this one!

Since I wrote the above, several months ago, I have depended upon a different alarm clock to wake me up each morning. The Elgin clock is used only to display the time.

I am not a "handy man" by any stretch of the imagination, however installing this under a kitchen cabinet was a breeze. As for the product itself, it has a good sound and works wonderfully.

This NAXA NX-670 was replacement for original 95 Jeep non-infinity system so unit it replaced was never good from the start.

Was very easy to install and we are very happy with it.

I purchased this stereo based on it's price and good reviews, apparently I should have paid a bit more attention to the details. This stereo is awkward in it's setup with the volume on the right and the station selection dial on the left. This is a setup that I am not used to and is a pain to change while I am driving.

The other thing that is quite strange is the lack of radio station presets. There are six buttons at the bottom of the stereo and none of them besides the aux button are of much good.

If you are only going to use this for an ipod or as a cd player then this is a great stereo, but if you listen to the radio even just once in a while then this is not the stereo for you.

Very nice lil unit.I installed it in my 78 Dodge rv,easy to install ,sounds great w/ 4 speakers.Cd player works good.I used a trim kit from walmart & looks like it came from the factory.I would buy again.

Took this unit out of my rv & put it in my ole 87 honda accord.Did fine for a few months,now yesterday,no sound,lights up,but no sound.So now its trash.Thats the problem with todays crap,not made to last at all.

Not the niftiest, nor the most elegant clock radio available but the price and features make it about as good a buy as you'll find.

All the important features battery backup, automatic time synch, intuitive alarm setting, good (but gentle on the eyes) time visibility.

There's a dual alarm version available for a few bucks more too.

We liked this one enough to buy another for our guest bedroom guests won't be befuddled by this model...

BTW, radio isn't high fidelity but its not bad, a good Sony quality product.

UPDATE 10/28/09: Two years down the road and the two of these radios we bought are still going strong. One of the things I failed to mention in the original review was that this unit does NOT, repeat, does NOT have a power brick just a nice old fashioned wall plug on a wire sweet. I take note of the comment by others about the intensity (or lack thereof) of the clock LED. Myself, and upon further inquiry, my wife find the intensity to be 'just right'. Perhaps there is some variation in the units or maybe its just a matter of your sleeping environment. We're former Sierra Nevada 'country' folks who now live on the edge of a small Ohio town. Between the street light, the neighbor's lights, the wifi router and a couple of those green 'limelite' nightlights we DO have sufficient ambient light at night to move around without stubbing the old toes. BTW, I've dropped both of our units more than once, and accidentally kicked one across our guest suite no discernable damage. Oh yes, the wife says that they'd show the dust less if they were white.

I've had this for 3 days now, and i'm very happy with it...and i put alot of research in everything i buy. The Radio works perfectly, picks up all the stations clearly, the alarms sound starts out soft and gets progressively louder..so you will get up. The Built in battery is also a plus, that way i'll never lose track of time.

for this price this is a great product..and oh yes huge green lights for the display and many more features...wake up to the radio or the buzzer...

Unfortunately, I am not able to rate the Sony ICF-C218 as highly as my colleagues. Not that this clock radio doesn't have numerous good features. The radio got good reception and the sound was of better than average quality. The controls, as others have pointed out, are intuitive and easy to use even without ever resorting to the instructions. The alarm, as is common, can wake you up either with the radio or with a buzzer. The only missing feature that would have been nice would be a dual alarm, though for the price this lack cannot be complained of.

The problem with the unit, and it is a serious one, is the brightness of the display. Of the other two reviewers who've rated the ICF-C218 at three stars, curiously one complains that the display is too dim and the other that it is too bright. My experience agrees with the later. I didn't notice until I tried sleeping beside this unit, but once your eyes are accustomed to the darkness the nicely-sized display is simply far too bright. It casts shadows on my ceiling and was a distraction when trying to fall asleep; I was forced to angle it away from myself or face the opposite direction. This is simply inexcusably poor design in an alarm clock and is a deal breaker for me; I'm going to be returning my unit.

A more minor complaint would be the AM/PM indicator. Most clocks have a single light that is lit when it is post meridiem (or ante meridiem, depending on the model), but this one has two lights, one about 7 mm above the other, which indicate morning or afternoon. That's fine when the room is light and you can read the AM or PM text next to the two lights, but at night you'll simply have to remember which light is above the other one and how far each is from the top of the display. Not a big deal for most, but another small design flaw.

This isn't a bad clock for the price (Wal-Mart carries it for even less, $9.96) but the brightness issue makes it unusable for me. The addition of a dimmer switch, fixing the AM/PM indicator, and adding a second alarm setting would make this clock easily a five star item, even at a slightly higher price.

The Sony ICF-C218 FM/AM Clock Radio is a capable and inexpensive clock radio that gets the job done quite nicely. It lacks some functionality such as a dimmable display but its ease of operation, decent sounding radio and overall ease of operation make up for any shortcomings.

It has a battery backup provided by a CR2032 battery and the clock is preset with the correct EST time. Just plug it in and you're good to go. If you live in another time zone, it's a simple matter to adjust the time zone to your zone by using the time zone button on the top of the unit.

I like that the FM antenna is within the power cord. There is no extra wire hanging out of the back of the unit like so many other clock radios seem to have.

Sound quality is quite decent given the small size of the radio. I also felt that the non-digital tuning was good and did not have any problems finding and locking in stations to listen to.

The alarm is nice in that it has a gradual ramping up of urgency. I find alarms quite obnoxious and an alarm that starts off slowly is preferred. That's what this alarm does and as more time elapses, it speeds up the frequency of beeps giving you plenty of time to turn it off before it reaches "full speed."

It's a great value and I like it. The only thing I would wish for is a display that has a setting to adjust the brightness.

By the way, I found this at WalMart for just slightly under $10.

I was so happy with this purchse, it really has a lot for such a small price. As soon as I pluged it in within seconds it had not only set the time but the date too. It small enough to fit on the night stand, easy to set for the alarm,and it has great reception on the radio. I live in an area where there are so many trees you have to go outside to get cell service. I have several Sony radios and cd players in the house and they are the only brand I have not had a problem in getting great reception on FM and AM, and they have such incredible sound......

Dissappointed that I can rate only 3 stars and they are for the look of the unit and thats it,I paid for 2 day shipping,product arrived but upon opening the box it became clear very quickly that this item was USED,the wiring harness was not sealed in a manufacturer plastic bag,the black connector block,(male part)was missing from the box,probably from a failed attempt to install with a Metra type kit so as not to cut into the factory loom,the protective screen cover was missing from the face plate and the plastic battery isolater(the piece you have to pull out of the remote control when you first buy the item) was missing and the 2 screws that hold the cd deck in place while shipped one was loose and the other completley out,the plastic bag that holds the screws,metal plate and stereo removal pins had been cut open...................while I could install with no problem note this..... I had bought this back in 2011 and driving around on bumpy roads and elevated inclines have not harmed the playability of the CD/DVD player.

The interface is easy to work with and the instruction manual was easy to follow. There was the whole point of getting the bypass for the back up camera, which I did not have, that could be found with a little investigation through the inner-nets. But the picture is not bad at all, and more importantly the compatibility with all type of devices makes it that much better. The only con is the darn remote not being picked up on the IR receiver. 5 out of 5

This is a great clock stylish and techy. I wanted something to use in my home gym so I could easily see the second hand in order to time my recovery between weight lifting sets (30-90 seconds). This is a perfect fit and totally easy to track seconds with the LED. the only thing I wish was different is that it would run off of batteries so I didnt have a black cable hanging down my wall but really that's minor in the overall usefulness and style of this clock.

The DBTech LED Circle Wall Clock is a new take on an old clock design. The clock is encircled in small (blue) LEDs that indicated the number of seconds after the minute. Who needs a sweeping second hand anyway? The clock is big enough (10" in diameter ...although I say 12" in the video I misspoke) and bright enough (more on this later) to be seen across the largest of rooms.

Notes -

Like some of the other DBTech clock's this LED clock has three brightness settings. On the brightest setting you could probably use it to read in it a dark room. On the dimmest setting it is still easy to see even in direct sunlight.

Completely quiet no ticking.

Time is maintained even during a power outage. If you lose power the display will go dark but you will not need to reset the time.

Will only work with an AC power outlet I would have loved an option for batteries.

The cord is a little on the short side... either 6' or 8'

Final Verdict The DBTech Circle LED Clock is big enough and bright enough to be seen across the largest of rooms. It is perfect for classrooms, gyms, or people who just happen to like large clocks!

This is a very cool looking clock, featuring blue colored LED's. A digital readout of the time is in the center, and it also indicates the passing seconds, by lighting up a series of 60 LED's, located along the circumference of the clock face. The 1.7 inch high digits are easy to read, and it's easy to get accustomed to the stream of travelling LED's, as the follow a circular path.

The clock is approximately 10 inches in diameter, has a glass face, and a metal housing that is 1.5 inches high. Setting the time is simple and easy, and the brightness of the LED's can be adjusted to one of three different levels. That is about it, for the clock's primary features.

Be advised that this clock is a cord and plug device, and provisions for power will be required, wherever you mount it. Even in you have a dedicated clock outlet mounted high on the wall, there is no space on the back of the clock to conceal the transformer and 6' long cord. As the cord is black, it will blend in easier on a darker colored wall.

There is an internal battery backup in case of power failure, so when power is restored, the clock will light up and display the correct time, without having to be reset. The time limit is for this feature is not stated, but it's at least 12 hours, as I have been I utilizing this particular feature to reduce electrical consumption. I have the clock plugged into a switch controlled outlet, and turn off power when I leave for work. When I return home and switch the power back on, the clock still displays the proper time. The savings may be small, but I appreciate being able to do so.

Cool looking and with great visibility, this clock is also available with red LED's. It may appeal to those with progressive tastes, looking for something stylishly flashy. A sample was generously provided for purposes of review.

This clock from DBTech is a 10" wall mount with some unique twists. It is digital with a bright, blue LED display and an LED-lit AM/PM designation next to the time. The twist is that the seconds count up around the face in LED lights!

It comes well packaged with plenty of Styrofoam around the clock to ensure it arrives damage-free.

This clock is well made and feels solid. The face is glass and the frame is a simple black metal. It is electric and requires the included 6' power cable so you will need to place it above an electrical outlet or use an extension cord. It does feature a chip that keeps the time even in the event of a power outage. The clock will not display during an outage, but you won't need to reset it when the power comes back on. This is one of my favorite features.

You set the time by pressing three buttons on the back of the clock labeled A, B and C. The included instructions explain clearly how to do this. You also adjust the brightness level using the B button.

The LEDs are very bright. There are 3 brightness settings, but it is still pretty bright even on the dimmest setting. The numbers are large enough to read from across the room, even without glasses. I have this hung in my young son's bedroom, but the blue light doesn't seem to keep him awake. However, for a person who is a light sleeper or easily disturbed, the bedroom probably isn't the best place for this clock.

Because of the unique seconds display, my son absolutely loves this clock. At 10, he is always wanting to time things how long he can hold his breath, how long he can stare without blinking, how many seconds he can stand on one leg, etc. It's easy for him to time all sorts of things with this clock. And he also likes that because the display is bright, it acts as sort of a night light when he wakes up and gets a drink.

It's somewhat unusual to find a wall clock that is corded these days, but I prefer it. In a house full of children, I already spend a fair amount of time searching for batteries for one device or another. I'm relieved I'll never have to replace batteries in this one.

The DBTech Stylish Big Digital LED Clock with Circling LED second indicator is a refreshing makeover of the typical black circular clock we all know from elementary school. This clock features 2-inch tall hour and minute numbers and has a circling light count up to the next minute. An illuminated AM and PM appear to the left of the hour, indicating the time of day. It's worth noting that this particular clock isn't able to display military time (though DBTech does make ones that do military time).

This clock is great for even the brightest room in the house and can be clearly seen even in direct sunlight. One of the features of this clock allows you to adjust it to three levels of brightness which is great to tailor it to the ambient of your room. The best use for this type of clock would be in a exercise room or even a kitchen where timing by the second is very important. With its sleek black metal finish, this clock is designed to fit into any décor.

Setting time on this clock is as simple as A... B... C. The clock has three buttons on the back labeled just that way; with `A' being used to select either the Hour or Minute, `B' used to raise the minute or hour and `C' being used to exit setup mode. You can also us the `B' button independently to adjust the brightness. All of this (and more) is in the handy instruction sheet included with the clock.

One really fantastic feature about the clock is that it has a built-in memory that will resume the clock to current time, should you have a power failure or the clock becomes unplugged. As soon as power is restored, the unit will pick up at the correct time without adjustment. This is a really useful feature if you are planning to put the clock in a hard to reach area. The included power cable is approx. 6-feet long; a good length if placing the clock just above an outlet. An extension cord may be required for greater distances.

I was so excited to have found this item on Amazon for a reasonable price, considering a prior purchase through Ebay with a similar product went sour. However, this item ended up being no better. The transmitting was weak and during song changes, static would overtake the frequency. No matter how many frequencies I tuned into the same incident would ALWAYS occur. This item had the option of operating of 2 AAA batteries or a cord that plugged into the cigarette lighter. Nonetheless, after some failed attempts of trying to get the unit to function (without interupption) the transmitter went on the "blink" and ended up COMPLETELY dead. Now, it will not turn on with the cord or batteries. So I retired the PIECE OF JUNK to my glove compartement. OVERALL, I have came to the conclusion that I will have to live with regular FM stations. I would have sent the item back, but I nolonger have the packaging. :(

I used this once with my blackberry and mp3 player and it worked fine. Then 5 minutes later it stopped working and hasn't worked again since. I deserve to be sent a check. You'll probably just be let-down. Buy a better quality product.

Oregon Scientific WMR100 Professional Wireless Weather Station

I have the Oregon Scientific WMR100 which comes with a rain collector, a combined wind/temperature/humidity sensor, a display unit, and various mounting hardware. I tested its accuracy in several ways, including pouring carefully measured amounts of water (from a rain gauge) through the rain collector, comparing the temperature readings with a very accurate thermometer, and holding the wind sensor out the window of a car at 40 mph. The results were impressive. I had previously tried these tests on a LaCrosse weather station as well as one from Radio Shack, neither of which was completely accurate. The Oregon Scientific WMR100 was right on the mark for measuring preciptiation, and also for temperature. The temperature was down to minus 15F one night, and lithium batteries still worked fine. The outdoor temperature sensor is slow to respond to rapidly rising or falling temperature, but this is probably a good design feature to avoid over-reaction to direct sunlight if it's not in the shade. The wind speed readings for 40 mph on the odometer ranged from 40 to 45+ on the display unit, but doing this out the window of a car may not be 100% reliable as a test! The display unit sits firmly on a table (well weighted in the bottom) yet is easy to use as a hand unit. It is a little inconvenient to have to scroll through the settings to see everything -for example, the readings for rainfall, UV, and barometric pressure do not display simultaneously and it is necessary to use the control buttons to change between these settings in order to see them all. The manual is good in explaining everything. The construction is very sturdy considering that it's made of plastic, and the mounting pole is even metal. All in all I am very satisfied with it and certainly would recommend it over LaCrosse for a number of reasons. From what I would expect for something at this price, I would give it 5 stars.

Update, July 2, 2008: After several months, the temperature and humidity signals were no longer coming through to the display unit without constantly having to reset the sensor (on the roof!), so I returned the whole weather station under warranty, as instructed by Oregon Scientific's Customer Service Department listed in the warranty. After more than 7 months and many inquiries, they had not sent me the new unit yet, saying that it was "back ordered" and would be sent when available.... in a few months! I then contacted the Oregon Scientific retail store where I had purchased the unit, and with no hesitation they told me that they backed the product and would send a replacement. So, if you buy, buy from a retailer who will back the product or directly from the company's retail store. Don't depend on Oregon Scientific's Customer Service Department! The Oregon Scientific retail store in Tigard, Oregon was very helpful in dealing with the problem because I had purchased it there in the first place and they still had a copy of my receipt on file. My only regret is not having called them first when the problem began.

Update July 24, 2009: This weather station is still working wonderfully!

For several months I had debated buying the WMR 100, but when I finally did, it proved to be a great decision. Oregon Scientific has a very well-designed product that puts LaCrosse to shame, especially when it comes to wind and temperature readings. My old LaCrosse 2310 was an acceptable unit, but would under-report wind speeds while over-reporting the current temperature. This is not the case with a WMR 100. Even the slightest breeze registers on the anemometer and temperature readings are very accurate, even in direct sunlight. Unlike the 2310 where a Stevenson screen was needed to reduce solar radiation heating, this unit has adequate shielding already built in. Plus, the anemometer employs a cup design instead of the turbine which usually missed those light wind gusts. While the WMR is completely wireless, its refresh interval is 14 seconds; perhaps not as good as LaCrosse's 8-second cycle (in *wired* mode only) but still entirely adequate condidering it's superior design. There are a few minor drawbacks to the WMR 100. Both the rain gauge and barometer sport lower resolutions than what is offered in LaCrosse models. The tipping bucket measures rain in .04" increments, compared to .02" for a LaCrosse station. Barometer readings are at a resolution of 1 MB (or .03 inHg) while LaCrosse sports a .01 inHg resolution. I consider both of these issues to be relatively minor with respect to the big picture. The WMR base unit is very nice, featuring a crisp LCD display and vivid backlighting. For those who will be connecting their PC to the station, a basic trial version of VWS is included. Oregon Scientific made a wise decision when they designed the base station to connect via USB. LaCrosse employed the serial port interface which is considerably outdated for most computer users. I have been an amateur weather observer for a couple of years now, and I can say that the Oregon Scientific WMR 100 is undoubtedly the best choice for anyone considering this hobby.

I have an older OS unit that only has remote temperature sensors. It mounted on the wall and is battery operated.

I upgraded to this unit to have other indications of the weather. It does all this very well, but...

It only shows one temperature at a time. So you can see the indoor or an outdoor temp but not both unless you spin the knob. Then there is the knob. It is a bit tricky to control.

This unit is also a table top unit with no option to wall mount. It also requires an AC plug in. The batteries don't last long without the AC adapter.

On the good side, the outdoor units are truly wireless. There are no cords connecting the rain gauge and the wind gauges as some other units do which almost precludes mouting the wind gauge on your roof unless you can figure out a way to mount the rain gauge there too.

Also the outdoor units seem to have a long battery life. I have had mine in operation more than 4 months without changing batteries.

I bought this based off the 2 other reviews listed. So far I haven't been disappointed with this station. It was at first a little difficult to set up. The base station worked after plugging it in but I couldn't seem to get it to pick up the wireless sensors. I was convinced that I had a broken unit. I pressed reset a few times on the sensors and then it finally started working. I'm definitely pleased, especially since with the price. Oh, I have a wireless G network set up in my house, wireless phones, and a wireless baby monitor and it has not interfered with any of them.

I decided on this weather station after reading reviews on Amazon of just about every station offered. I have not been disappointed! I've wanted a weather station for years, but just as an amateur, so I didn't want to spend $500+ . I was already leaning toward Oregon Scientific after getting just the rain gauge for my Dad. This station has everything you can think of except UV, which you can add for about $40 (the base is pre-programed to sense it). You can also add up to 9 more temp/humidity sensors. Includes forecast, temp (inside and out), humidity (in and out), real feel temp, dew point, wind speed and gust, wind direction, barometer, rain amounts (incl 24 hour history), moon phase, date/time.

I considered the more expensive version of this product which is solar powered instead of battery, but it had some negative reviews about losing connection (maybe if there hasn't been enough sun?). From what I could tell, it also doesn't track any more than this station, and you still have to add the UV sensor extra.

The batteries on the wind sensor are SUPER easy to get to, but the rain gauge requires a screw driver to get into the battery compartment. I set this up in about half an hour (and that includes with 3 toddlers crawling all over me). At first I couldn't get the base to pick up the sensors, then I pressed reset on the BASE (rather than on each sensor as the directions say) and it suddenly read them all. HTH.

There is a computer program included, but you have to buy an deluxe version of it (or some other program) if you want to be able to upload data to a website like wunderground. The one included in the box has some bugs but there is a free download of a newer version available on the software website.

My old late 80's Sony Dream Machine cube-shaped analog clock radio died after 14 years of use and I was convinced I'd never again find a battery-operated, analog clock radio that was as small or cute. I was so thrilled to come across this Aiwa model!

Its small enough to not dominate your nightstand, but large enough to tell the time. The controls are super easy to use (no reading the manual) and the alarm on/off switch is easy to flip off even when you're bleary eyed. The big snooze button is also easy to hit and will allow you 5 more minutes of sleep. The AM/FM radio works well, although the FM sound is good but not great, but what do you expect from a single speaker? You have a choice to wake up to the alarm buzz (loud!) or the radio. I love how the alarm is set by the blue ring around the face of the clock--just turn it to point to the desired time....no more fumbling around for that little knob on the back of the clock. This unit takes four AA batteries--two for the clock, two for the radio. A set of batteries lasts me almost a year (I use the alarm 5x a week).

I've had this clock for 4 years now, no problems--and still going strong!

This clock radio is so low-tech, it's laughable. And that it's strength: it works flawlessly, including in pitch-black dark and without a manual, or both.

If you do not want a programmable ipod-dock to wake you, nor an electrical item on standby on your nightstand, nor the glow of LED lights illuminating your bedroom, the Aiwa (one of two clocks like these still in production, as far as I know) is the ticket.

How it works: you set the wake-up time by rotating the blue bezel around the dial, you set alarm to "on", you select radio or buzzer, you're done. And in the middle of night, when you want to check the time, you hit the big "light & snooze" button on the top, very simple. No programming, no wifi, no glow, no usb-connection. I love it; I have enough routers, screens and cables in my life already.

Based on the reviews of others I bought this for my wife who needs a battery operated radio for where she likes it placed in the bathroom. Great reception, nice shape and clock size. Good dials, making tuning and volume adjustment easy. This has a 90 minute auto cut-off for regular play and 60 minute cut-off after the alarm goes off. Our first clock radio was defective, cutting off after about 90 seconds during normal play. Amazon was great taking this back and refunding our full purchase price (return shipping was free and the refund fast). The new one works great and we're very happy. A bit pricey, but it's really hard to find a battery operated clock radio that isn't junk. This is no Bose, but it's a pretty good value for the money.

Love this little clock radio. It is the greatest! It is greener, quiet and very easy to use. It is a great size for a nightstand, and I like that it is dark until you press the easy to find button for the lighted dial. The button also serves as the sleep button which works great. The alarm is simple and the sound is fine.

Low tech wonder! Love it.
