I read the other reviews and the clock backlight seems to be an issue, so if you want it as a bedside unit it may not be ideal but there is a workaround: if you press the 'dimmer' button after you put the unit in Standby the light stays on. I used to have the Teac SR-L100, a wonderful clock radio! I bought this one thinking it was a true upgrade to that model. Big dissappointment! The sound is great! The FM reception is great! The size, look, and music options are great! But, in standby mode, the display goes off! WTF??? Whoever designed that, I hope they were fired! The previous model didn't do that, nor does the Bose Wave Radio. That small feature made me send the item right back, quickly. I need to see the time when the unit is off, otherwise, it is useless to me. I need a clock first, then music, CD, Ipod, etc. Due to that reason, I was very dissappointed when I received this item. If you need a clock that you can see when the unit is off or on standby, this ain't the one for you! Smaller than it looks in pics. acceptable sound but poor bass. clock turns off when unit is turned off. Due to it low price, I suppose overall is ok.

Extremely nice, easily configured potable radio. AM broadcast band and FM performance is exceptionally good. SSB (Single Side Band) although BFO tuned, is very good. Shortwave performance is on par with radios in the $300.00 price class. Display back lighting is great and the display is easily read. The Grundig G5 is a fine performing world band radio. It just isn't worth the price IMO. I also own the Kaito KA1102, and Sony ICF-SW7600GR. The Kaito costs 1/2 the price and performs equally as well. IMO, the KA1102 is the best deal in world band receivers. It's not quite as easy to use as the G5, and the sound isn't quite as good, but it is a much better value. The Sony costs slightly less than the Grundig, but performs equally as well on AM, and beats the Grundig on SSB. Mainly due to its synchronous detection circuitry. The one thing I like about the Grundig over the Sony is the fact you can charge the batteries in the radio. You can also do this with the Kaito. You can't do that with the Sony, and it also doesn't include the AC adapter. All in all, you can go wrong with any of these 3 radios. This radio is good it has the continous 150 to 29999 kHz with no boundries. The AM and FM reception is superb, but LW and SW bands are medrocre. The LW band is fair to poor you would need a tunable loop antenna that covers 150 kHz to 520 kHz to pull in distant LW stations. The AM band is real good and the selectivity and sensitvity is good and well performing. The shortwave bands are fair to poor unless you use a external wire antenna with the G5. I could not pick weak signals, I hope I can get mine fixed. Please be careful not to use the radio in areas with high static electricity. When used with a Active Antenna or long wire antenna use an attenuator or preselector with this radio. There is a good line out jack on the right side so you can connect your radio to a stereo system or minidisc recorder to record your favorite shortwave radio programs. The radio requires 4 AA batteries, and sometimes it needs reset, the good thing is that the "reset" feature does not erase your preset memories even when the batteries are taken out. The SSB reception is very good if the reception was better.

I love the possibilities an electronic dictionary offers but the mechanics of this one has a lot of problems. The screen does not have enought contrast no matter how you adjust it. If you use the backlight it shuts off, in fact it shuts off on its own all the time. Very frustrating. Whenever it shuts off unexpectedly you also loose all of your preferences (like large type). The voice part is really not worth the extra money. The pronunciations are so digitized it does not help much. It is extremely convenient to have an electronic translator in your pocket, just not this one.

While this speaker has good versatility for different styles, it's specialty is a big warm clean tone with great note separation. It has deep bass, warm smooth mids, and very responsive to your EQ in treble region. You can dial in strong highs that aren't nasty or dial back for smooth jazz tone. The cone is pretty controlled which makes this a fine speaker for jazz. If you're playing chord melodies or jazz leads and need to hear each note, you're in for a treat. Very full, rich sound. It has plenty of mids, just not the growling type like a Vintage 30. If you're buying this for that cutting hi-mid crunch, it won't have enough juice for you. However, if distorted rock is more the exception than rule in your playing, then it will do a respectable job with pedals just don't expect the speaker to "break up" for you. Clean playing is more the rule these days for me, so this speaker is special. The real test is hitting a low E note while playing some chord work over the top. Installed this in my custom build cabinet. Clean and dirty tube amps sound great! The tone is warm and the mids come through.
This item, sold as an outdoor device, can't be left outdoors if temperadture falls to 41 degrees or lower because, as the manual explains, it will not work below that tempoerature. Itis not water tight, either. Perhaps okay for a covered porch in the tropics but not useless in N. America.

Almost all of the outlets in my kitchen are used and yet, when I use the RCA Charging Dock I can charge my iPhone, my ipad, and it has an outlet on it which allows me plug in a device if I need to. Just plug it into the wall and set it on your desk, and you've got yourself a nifty little iPhone charging dock. Works well, but I wish the additional USB port was on the front instead of the back, so I didn't have to pick it up and flip it around to plug something into it. Also, the connector seems to be a little tough to plug my iPhone in to, it takes a little bit of force. My iPhone is more than just a phone. It is an alarm clock, music device, workout log and so much more. The RCA charging dock is a great accessory for the phone. I keep mine on the nightstand and use it not only for charging the phone overnight but also to use as an alarm clock and the dock has extra space to plug in my lamp and charge my Kindle as well.
This alarm clock has several features that I really like, but unfortunately it's also got one big drawback that drags its overall value down considerably: it doesn't always go off. This has only happened three times in the year that I've been using it, but that's three times that I've been late for, or entirely missed, important appointments. The alarm will be properly set (each time I've checked afterward to make sure I hadn't made an AM/PM mistake or anything), but then not make a sound at the appointed time. And it will STILL be set and turned on when I finally awake, so I know it isn't a matter of me accidentally turning it off in my sleep. It's also not just an issue with this one particular clock, as I own two of the exact same model, and the other has done the same thing.

I had 3 alarm clocks that I couldn't hear without my hearing aids. This one screams louder than Jamie Curtis :-) and I get up when I need to. Not late to work anymore. By the way, It arrived quickly and I am pleased with the good service.
I thought I received a defective Tecsun 660 unit, because even plugged in, the unit was behaving erratically (hence I didn't expect it was the batteries). It had been plugged overnight, but the unit was turning itself off after 20 seconds or so, and a few icons were flickering. Resetting the unit, using a pin, didn't work. I requested a refund and went out to buy a Grundig G3 at a local HAM radio shop and to pick up some alkaline batteries. When I got home and inserted the alkaline batteries, the Tecsun appeared to operate normally. I then compared the reception and sound quality of both units across the Air / SW / AM / FM bands. The Tecsun has noticeably better reception, superior sound quality and depth (with a tone control for either bass or treble), less static buzz, and the volume seems 2 3 times as loud as the G3. The Gundig has a nice RDS (Radio Data System) feature that displays the station, song and artist. It also has a rubberized body that some may prefer to the Tecsun's plastic finish. Both units have a quality feel about them. Unfortunately, both units can hardly pick up any SW stations during the day here in San Jose from my 3rd floor porch, even with the external Sangean ANT-60 antenna plugged in. I understand that ionospheric conditions favor the night due to higher bounce, but I expected more stations during the day nonetheless (disappointment for both radios). The Sangean antenna would work better if I could string it optimally. I was encouraged by the alkaline batteries, and remembered that I had a battery charger stashed away. I loaded the rechargeable batteries from the Tecsun (the recharger indicated that they were dead even though I had them plugged into the Tecsun the prior night), and after a few hours they were fully recharged. Once re-inserted into the Tesun, the unit is working fine as with the alkaline batteries. I would recommend the Tecsun 660 (four star review) over the Gundig G3 but caution buyers not to expect the Tecsun unit to work right, even plugged in, until the rechargeable batteries are fully charged (use an external charger if necessary the first time). I'll monitor this radio and report back if the unit isn't properly charging so far though so good.

Got this clock for my husband, who collects M&Ms thingies. He really likes it. It's bright and colorful and does actually talk on the hour, even if the voices are a bit loud and a little mechanical sounding but then again, these are M&Ms we're talking about, not humans. The clock is very cute, and the swinging M&M works well. However, the hands do not stand out very well against the background, making it difficult to tell the time. I'm considering taking it apart to outline the hands, or painting the hands black.
