This radio is cheap. Bad investment on my part. we have four offices and i purchased one for each office. I think maybe one of them is still working. i thought it had some great features when i first ordered them however the buttons stick when pressed. antenna broke off early on three of them (this is an office no children).

Bought this thing yesterday, have had multiple weather warnings today and this thing has not gone off even once!!! I have everything set correctly, and have weather switch to ON. My $1.99 app on my phone worked great, this costly brick is just a waste of space... SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

I'm out in the sticks where there are no warning sirens, and I didn't like the idea of dangerous weather sneaking up on me. Particularly when sleeping at night. So, far it has worked well, the alarm goes off on watches and warnings, and I get the local weather channel. I took it on vacation with me also. I changed the SAME settings to the county I was in, but in that location the weather channel reception was poor. The unit does have a port for an external antenna, which may have helped.

The only negative so far with the radio is the display. You can't read it unless your looking straight at it. Off to the side, high or low and it's not visible.

After an extended power outage that left me with no internet, cable, telephone, limited cell phone service and no data connection, I made it a priority to get a weather alert radio. Despite having generator power, the storm appeared to have compromised the nearby cell tower, so we were virtually blind should additional hazzardous weather approach. Given all of the other outages, I wasn't even sure the tornado sirens would work. Even if they did work, I was concerned that the noise from all of the generators in use might prevent more distant sirens from being heard.

I like to exhaust every possiblitly before returning a product and usually dismiss most one star ratings for not being objective. However, I am compelled to offer only one star and after a week of usage, decided to return the poroduct. I also considered the MIDLAND WR300 Weather Radio but thought this unit had a better display.

I planned to keep this radio by my bedside to provide warnings should a storm approach in the middle of the night but also had aspirations to use this as a clock radio. None of this worked out:

The alarm for this radio is the same used for weather alerts, which I believe could wake the dead. Such an alarm is not appropriate for every day use as my goal is to wake myself up, but not everyone else in the house, who get up two hours later than I. In addition, the alarm setting function is buried within the menu used to program the radio, making the alarm impractical to use on on a daily basis (minus one star).

An annoying tone/beep ensues whenever ANY button is pressed on this radio. Those tones are loud enough to wake up someone in the next room and cannot be turned off. Not sure why every button press warrants such a loud audible tone that cannot be shut off, but this is how this radio works (minus one star).

This radio is relatively bulky for its light weight, which raises questions about its build quality. I would not automatically be concerned about build quality if ever other aspect of the raido was well-designed, but it is not the case here (minus one star).

I had decided to live with these shortcomings, but unfortunately, the most important feature, ALERT did not work when a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for my area. I set the alert feature to work in the event of a severe thunderstorm as these are often precursors to tornados. The particular warning only applied to a quaudrant of my county (the quadrant where I happen to live) and no alarm was sounded. The following day, I reached out to the National Weather Service and they confirmed that they DID issue an alert that should have been picked up on a S.A.M.E. radio. I double checked all of my settings and the radio WAS properly set (minus one star)

I'll give the radio one star for its display. It is clear and legible and the warning lights to indicate the nature of the warning had potential (plus one star).

I returned this raido and decided to kick in an extra $20 for the Sangean CL-100, which has good reviews and should suit my needs better. If you are buying a radio that has to work to protect life and property, this is NOT the answer.

Yes, all the complaints are real. Not intuitive. Many buttons. But I took the time to figure out how to program it for several reasons. I like the dimmer, I like the white LCD (most clocks are red green or blue) and I am too lazy to return it just yet.

Here is what I figured out. To set the next radio station (Station #2), have it on station #1, and tune it to the desired station. When you are satisfied, hit the "mem/time" button twice in a row.

To set the alarm mode, cycle through the options by hitting either AL1 or AL2 repeatedly until the visual display picture shows what you want. A bell for the the buzzer, a music symbol for radio, and this other symbol for auxillary (I think). Or no picture symbol for alarm off.

To set the alarm hit the appropriate alarm button (1 or 2) and while it is flashing hit the hour or minutes to set.

I think this covers most of the basic stuff. I hope it doesn't die in a few months like a few people said.

Comments:

The dimmer allows you to adjust the brightness setting to three levels: extremely dim, moderately dim, and beacon of hope bright. You are supposed to set the dimmer at night to the dim levels and readjust it in the morning to the bright level, which is a little cumbersome. Who remembers to set the dimmer?

** I sleep with the beacon of hope shining next to me. I slept with the lights on until I was 19, so it really doesn't bother me. The other problem: Sometimes I can't see the time if I'm not directly looking at it--the display is not friendly to the peripheral view.

The dual alarm system works well. It's not that much different than other clock radios. There's no side toggle switch--everything is on top of the device.

**If I forget to hit the correct "off" button, the alarm sounds again and increases to "car horn" level. So it's important to run to turn off the alarm before the "car horn" sounds. I haven't had any problems with the alarm not going off.

Setting the time is reviewed in the user's manual, but it is incomplete. You are supposed to set the time using "Intelli Set" according to the time zone where you live. However, the manual warns, "If the time is incorrect, follow the instructions for setting the clock manually."

**I've never seen a user's manual admit that a device may not work according to the instructions. If they had included the reason why it wouldn't work, then I wouldn't still be wondering why it doesn't work. I live in EST, but I have to set my clock to AST (I don't even know what that stands for, but it must be Canada time.) If I don't my time will be an hour off the mark (and yes I know about the DST button). Currently DST is off (for winter) and EST is an hour earlier than it should be. And I checked and rechecked DST (and even wikipedia'd it) to make sure that I wasn't making the mistake. But no, the device is incorrect. Setting the clock manually is not a problem though it's as easy as any other clock. The other problem that I'm wondering about is the time that I tried to set the time, but pressed the buttons in the incorrect order. Instead of the time zones appearing, numbers from 45-60 appeared on the display. I thought that maybe the time zones would be one of the numbers, but no, the time zones appear as letters. So what did I do? Will it have lasting effects? These numbers are nowhere in the user's manual. It seems I found a glitch.

The radio itself plays a little better than my old clock radio, but not much better. It's not stereo sound or anything like that.

The backup battery is an obscure 3V, so buy it in advance.

After a power outage the clock may need to be reset using the reset button on the bottom. It will not turn back on until you stick a paper clip or pin into the reset button. The clock will look as though it died, but it just needs to be reset.

Overall, I give this clock a 75%. It's not an impressive masterpiece, but for $15 it's a good, cheap imitation clock.

Last comment: I realize that not all countries may be familiar with DST or the US time zones, but it seems like a major blunder to produce a product with an error--with knowledge that an error was made, apparently. Strange times we live in, eh?

I like this clock now, but the early days of using it were just as frustrating as the other reviewers state. The instructions are a pathetic, stingy mistranslation that don't tell you nearly enough... It has 13 damned buttons!... The buttons resist too much (loud clicks)... There's an ugly, ugly ill-considered power attachment... It has chintzy fake 'steel' legs (plastic)! Why anyone needs to see the radio staion displayed instead of the time as they're waking up, is a question best answered in Sweden or wherever the hell this thing was designed.

But once you figure it out, it's pretty easy to use and dependable. The behavior built into it is very useful. (i.e. When you finally shut off the alarm in the morning with the Off button, the clock is already set up to go off the next morning) You can fall asleep to the radio and wake up to nature sounds. It also has nicer looks than most alarm clocks.

I was trying to figure out how to change the time zone as this is set on default at AST. I live in EST. I just started pressing buttons until I got it. You have to hold the "zone" button on the back of the clock and press the "aux" button on the top to change time zones. Keep in mind, this will ERASE your alarm settings so be sure to go back and fix the times for your alarm. :) I have had this "clok" for 3+ yrs now and love it. Always use the water sound to wake me up...it can get pretty loud though to get you up (I get up almost right away so no worries for me). A good feature is that it will shut itself off after a bit just in case you forget to turn off the alarm setting on a night you might stay away from home. I can honestly say I have never used the radio feature as I use the radio on my computer...in fact, the antenna is still wrapped in it's plastic!

Successfully navigated all the buttons for 6 months but the clock has now taken on a life of its own, changing time zones in the middle of the night, turning numbers into what can only be described as a railroad track running across the clock, and now mysteriously going into military time. I called the company, dpi-global, and was told that the clock's warranty is only good for 3 months but they would replace it at a cost of $16 plus my cost of returning the broken clock to them..... no thank you.

I will never buy another Seiko product again!!

First of all, the display was very dim, even when the backlight was on. Second, when lying in bed at night, I couldn't read the display with the backlight on unless I lifted the back of the clock and tilted it toward me. Finally, I found that the alarm was starting to go off an hour early. I thought I was going crazy because the clock and the alarm times were set properly. The clock then went off again at the correct time.

So, during the daytime on weekend day I set the clock alarm for a time in the near future and waited to see what happened. Lo and behold, the hour number displayed flickered from time to time to next hour. I set the alarm accordingly and sure enough the clock went off an hour early!! (The clock was only 3 months old at the time.)

The clock had a 1-year warrantee so I contacted Amazon and they washed their hands of the deal referring me to Princeton Watches who actually sold the clock. Princeton of course passed the buck to Seiko. I contacted Seiko and they told me that they would fix or repair it. However, I would have to find box to ship it in. They wouldn't pay for the box or the shipping. They told me that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to return it to me. I asked if they could send me a replacement first if I gave them a charge account number which they could debit. When they got my broken one, they would credit it. Seiko wouldn't do that.

It just wasn't worth the further bother to fix. So, I threw the clock in the garbage, a $45+ mistake. I bought a nice Timex clock locally for less than two thirds the price.

I am surprised about how much trouble other people had with this item. I chose to receive it from my credit card company since I had to redeem some "points". So I did not pay anything.Now it's been about 4 years since I have this alarm clock and never had a problem. I don't have to worry if electricity gets cut of for even a few seconds, since this model does not need to be plugged in.I like the fact that I cannot see the screen in the dark, since that would be a distraction. I like that it shows me the day and the month and they are always correct since it's synchronizing with the atomic clock. Basically, I had a great experience with this alarm clock.

There have been a few rough reviews. I guess a couple people got defective models.

We've been using ours for several years and it works perfectly. We don't want a clock that lights up all night. The great thing about this clock is that it's very easy to hit the display button... just press the top of the clock on the cover, which is very large and "can't miss". If it's very dark and you're fumbling for the clock, you can't knock it over by accident. It's very stable.

We also use it as a travel clock, especially when going on cruises. We often have an inside cabin which we like to keep very dark, and the clock is perfect.

One thing to be aware of is that the display is designed to be viewed at a slight downward viewing angle, not upward. If your bedside table is higher than your bed, it's not as easy to read the display.

I can't get the alarm to turn on. In addition the tiny controls are fiddly, it ony comes on sporadically when tapping for a light. I recommend you avoid this.

Bought this several years ago from Amazon. I couldn't use it as a bedside alarm clock. It only allowed two snooze alarm hits and then it would shut off the alarm for 24 hours. That just won't work for me. I need a clock that will keep the alarm active through at least one hour of snooze hits. I need that. I really love that "hour of power" on my days off. I hit the snooze and sink back into the pillow. It's good! Can't do that with this Seiko.

I did keep the clock to use when setting other clocks in my bedroom and in my house. It picks up the radio signal from the cesium clock coordination signal broadcast from Colorado so it is the most accurate portable clock in our house. When the time changes twice a year from savings to standard, I carry this little clock around the house to reset all the others. This little Seiko also sits in my bedroom so I can set my "real" alarm clocks to the time displayed on this Seiko. It's accurate because it synchronizes itself at least daily. This clock also seems to pick up that frequency well. Other "atomic" clocks in the house can only get that signal deep in the middle of the night (like between 1 and 4 a.m.). This little Seiko can sometimes get the signal even during the day--not always but often.

That's a good thing, too, because every time you set a new alarm time, it forces the clock into a search for that radio signal. Why? I don't know. Pretty dumb if you ask me. It means that if you set a new alarm time, the little radio tower icon on the Seiko clock face starts blinking and won't stop until it synchronizes with the signal. Oh well. Whatever.

The alarm is moderately loud. Unfortunately, it shuts off in less than a minute if you do nothing or shuts off after two snooze alarm presses. I think it is only good for those people who awaken easily. That's not me. It's useless as an alarm clock for me.

So, it has a place in my bedroom but only as a time reference for setting other clocks and watches. I don't sleep. I hibernate. I need something that allows me to awaken slowly with repeated snooze button activations. Two hits on this Seiko and I'm late for work again. No good!

I was looking for a high quality portable that I could use at work and that was light enough that I could carry around with me while walking.

I have had the E10 for about two weeks and am very pleased with it thus far. FM reception is very good -it matches my Sangean ATS 818 easily. AM reception is also good (altough reception is compromised at workbut this is true of any radio). Shortwave is not quite to the same level as my Sangean but it still very good especially for the price and size. Sound is surprisingly good for the size of the speaker.

My biggest complaint with the radio is the small size of the buttons and controls. Even as small as the radio is, it is clear that they could have designed it with larger and more well spaced buttons.

The E10 comes with rechargeable NIMH batteries, the only drawback is that they only charge when the radio is OFF. The radio will work with standard AA batteries as well. An AC adaptor/charger is included. It also comes with ear buds (For FM Stereo) and a windup shortwave antenna. A carrying case is included (I use mine everyday).

If you like memory presets, you will love this radio. It has 500! (so far I have used only about 25 of them!).

Hi , I'm Vince the radioman I've have a large collection of radios and I love to do compares and share my thoughts. The Eton E 10 ( along with the E1 and E100) is a vast improvement over to old Grundig line of radios. You can immediatly see and feel the difference in the quality of how the radio is made. It has a robust memory (500 presets) and complete functionality including wide/narrow band selection and an interference filter which seems to work well. The tuner sensativity and dynamic range are very good considering the price . It has an antenna trim feature which is a pleasure and not usually available on a radio of this price range.I enjoy AM DXing and have had good results, not quite as good as the SONY 7600 or the Sangean ATS909. The Sangean is priced way above the E 10 but the SONY 7600 is just a bit more but has SSB which the E 10 does not . The E 10s cosmetic design /sleekness is wonderful and as I've said earlier ...a well made radio!! The control buttons are a bit small and cause issues for those of us with large hands, but not a show stopper. My actual rating here is 4 and a half stars , I do really like this radio but its not a SONY , it does have some hiss and selectivity issues, but none the less a very good buy for the money .

I've toted several radios to my work office, which thanks to thick concrete walls and all sorts of electronic gadgets, is a high-interference nightmare for all my AM/FM reception needs.

The Eton E10 is strong on all bands at home but in my office it gets weak FM. However, its saving grace is its strong AM, which performs even better than my big Grundig S350 and my Kaito 1103.

So I'm using my E10 as my sole AM receiver radio and my Grundig S350 for my FM needs.

For home use, the best PLL dual-conversion radio with presets is hands down the Kaito 1103, which has jaw-dropping FM sensitivity and beats the Eton E10 easily in the FM department. But for AM my E10 has been my strongest performer.

Update: I've just compared the E10 to the less modern looking Grundig G4000 and I must say the G4000 is a better perfomer and has a better speaker and is thirty dollars less retail, so go for the G4000.

I have both the Sony SW7600GR and the Eton E10. The Sony has less noise through the headphone out compared to the Eton. You can verify this by turning the volume knob all the way down. There is considerably less background hiss with the Sony.

But once you turn the volume up, you can't really hear that much of a difference.

This is a bummer. And I also tested the Eton E100 as well. The same level of background hiss on both the E10 and the E100. Eton should really have used a cleaner headphone amp.

This Eton radio is the U.S. domestic version of the Chinese Tecsun PL-550 all-band pocket sized radio. The Chinese version is legended in the native language and utilitarian in appearance and less expensive. The Eton is, well, in English with slight curves. I have used and tested other Tecsun produced radios, including the PL-200 (Eton 10) and the Grundig eTraveller VII. This radio, like the other Tecsun models, has excellent frequency discrimination, as well as the ability to directly enter the frequency desired (if you know it), or scan through the AM, FM and many shortwave bands, find the stations you like and store their frequencies. Closely allied, for example, FM stations within 200 kHz (only the strongest will be heard on most commercial FM receivers) of each other, can be picked up with clarity, positioning the manuverable whip antenna. Very, very few radios, excepting expensive car radios, can boast such performance in the Unites States. Now on the market are other comparable radios, all made by Tecsun in China using the very same sophisicated reception circuitry regelated previously to expensive shortwave receivers. This model has other features as well: two preset wake-up times for programs from preselected stations, scanning of all bands for stations and an antenna trimmer which permits optimizing reception on weakly received broadcasts, some 500 station memories and special reception selectivity for shortwave stations whose frequencies are almost overlapping. For the price, this radio is simply an excellent value, but people wishing to receive shortwave broadcasts are warned: shortwave reception from this radio, and every other shortwave radio for that matter, of stations other than the powerful broadcasters, benefits enormously from the use of an external long wire antenna. Tecsun does provide a retractable wire antenna with the radio. Alas, as with almost all radios this size, there is no single side band (SSB) reception, an enhancement that, defying digital technology, actually requires listener intervention to optimize and has great potential, but has, for the present at least, been consigned to the province of the technical listener more interested in ascertaining distant reception than actual broadcast information. The Dalai Lama for all his 5,000 watts SSB from Tibet can not be heard on this radio. China Radio shortwave, at 150,000 watts conventiona AM shortwave, with Canadian relay stations, does just fine. Australian radio, at the same power, Radio Havana, Radio Serbia, Croatia, Russia, Netherlands, Sweden, India, Israel, etc., at lesser power, and some with and most without relay stations, are also heard clearly on the Eastern seaboard during their times of broadcast usually in the early evening EST.

This arrived really fast, within less than a week. The price was decent, a little cheaper than Walmart. So far the product seems perfectly good. I got it activated and working within hours the day it arrived. Be aware, it has the same coverage as AT&T, so if you don't have that in your area, don't get this phone. For me on the other hand, it's great, because we don't get Sprint service out here in the country, but we do get AT&T. Just be forewarned.

Tecsun am.fm.short wave radio. This product is _absolutely awesome! For it's small compact size, the sound is surprisingly good. Now, granted, it's not going to have a "booming base like a big subwoofer, but the F.M. reception is wonderful, and you can bump up your base and trebble seetings, and, if you decide to get the radio that is blue tooth capable, you can even play your iphone, ipod, or any other device that that allows that feature. It does have some good volume, and the sound is quite clear that is produced by this radio. The buttons all have audible beeps, which, by the way, can be enabled or disabled. It does have jacks on the left hand side for headphones, A USB port for the optional ac charger _sold separately, and a jack for connecting it upto an external speaker such as the bose or a Jam box by Jawbone, or any other type of external speaker. To protect your radio, there is also a nice carrying case as well, where you can store the _provided headphones, and speaker cable. This unit is outstanding. Here's why:

SEPERATE DISPLAYS FOR THE TWO ALARMS! This is an awesome feature which on its own sold me. I don't have to fumble with buttons to see what the alarm times are. The radio alarm is on the left, the buzzer alarm is on the right. No confusion. When you can see the times, it's set. When the panels are dark, it's off.

Easy to set using tactile feedback alone. Only three buttons: up, down, and set. The buttons are nestled on little shelves below each of the alarm panels.

The alarm is plenty loud enough for me and just at the right pitch to make me get up and turn it off!

The display is clear enough for me and not too bright. I can read it in bed and across the room. I can also tell if the alarms are set even if I can't read the numbers. The alarm panels are orange when lit.

You don't think that the design of something as simple as an alarm clock make a big difference, until you use a product like this. Sony has what I consider a huge innovation here: each of the two independent alarms has a display that is separate from the main clock. This means that, with one glance, and without having to push any buttons, you can tell: 1) which alarms are on and off, and 2) what times they are set for.

Another valuable feature is that each of the alarms has separate buttons for setting the alarm time. On clocks where the same buttons change both the main time and the alarm setting, and you have to hold down another button or flick a switch while you adjust the time setting buttons to change the alarm, I always have this nagging feeling that I am by mistake changing the actual time instead of the alarm setting. The independent alarm-setting buttons solve this.

Everything else on this clock radio works fine, and in a pretty normal way. But Sony's commitment to thoughtfully designed products shines through in the independent displays and controls for the alarms. It is the recognition that a good clock radio does two separate things--tell you the time and wake you up--that makes this product a real standout in my opinion. In fact, I like it so much I am buying a second one to keep at my girlfriend's apartment.

As a previous reviewer says, the big feature of this unit is the independent displays of the alarm settings. This is the only clock radio that I've ever seen that has this amazing feature.

BUT... I have a major and minor problem with the display.

The minor problem is that it's too bright, even on the dim setting of the dimmer switch.

The major problem is that the display "disappears" when you look at it from below. Unless you're looking at the unit from above, the time and other display elements fade almost to nothing, leaving just a big, backlit rectangle.

I have tall end tables next to the bed, so the clock is basically useless to me, unless I'm sitting or standing up.

Too bad... because the unit is otherwise excellent.

I first saw this clock radio at the Hotel Palomar in SF. I liked it so much I bought one for home. Like other reviewers, I think it has awesome functionality (alarms, presets, etc.), however, the display is poor. As others said, it is overly bright and difficult to view from an angle.

I definitely recommend this, but only wish that Sony would have a release 2.0 that addresses display issues.

We have had this clock radio for several years and I cannot say enough about how great it is. It is extremely user-friendly. There is no fumbling with the buttons when you are trying to set the alarm, even in the dark. It has a toggle button to change between standard time and daylight savings. Such a simple idea! Why don't all clocks have that? It keeps time during power outages without any batteries. They seemed to think of everything for this clock. My only complaint is the background light in the display is much brighter than it needs to be. I taped red cellophane over the screen to take care of that problem.

Unfortunately, this product was a great disappointment. This is why I don't like it:

1. You can not read the display unless it is 2 feet below eye level. Thats right! You can not simple look at the display head on or when it is above eye level and read it. Who ever designed the LCD and light display deserves a Darwin award. What good is clock that you can barely read?!?!?!

2. You can't have the display light on and change the alarm time at the same time. The display light must be off. If you want to change the alarm time in the dark, forget it.

3. The knob that changes the alarm time is flimsy. It feels like it will break off after a month or two of use.

Amazing, a company that calls itself "Timex" makes a clock that is barely readable. Buying this product was a waste of time. Hopefully, by reading this you will not waste your time!

This is a great idea for a travel alarm. It is too bad it only got the "once over" at Timex R&D before the started churning them out.

Here are a few items that should be addressed in a new & improved model:

1) The LED display needs to be viewable wider angles. It should be easy to read when sitting on a nightstand, as it is now, that is about the WORST angle to try to view it.

2) The flashlight needs to be brighter. A selectable beam with low and high brightness and/or narrow/wide beam would be ideal. Is it is now, it is almost useless.

3) A simple switch for time zones would be really nice.

4) The alarm cannot be set in the dark. You cannot change the alarm time while the Indiglo is activated. This is a major flaw.

5) The adjustment knob is flimsy and would be the weakest link in the structure. It needs to be sturdier.

I hope someone tries to remake this product because it would be awesome if it was done right!

So far, this item has done just what I want it to do. It's silent, easy to snooze, and provides a convenient, but not TOO bright, light when the early (or midnight) riser needs to get around the room.

The female of the species gets up later than me, so SHE gets the clock radio, and I get the flashlight alarm! I use it as a portable alarm, not a clock; I've never had the dial-reading problem the other reviewers spoke of, but I don't really try to read it at night. It goes off, I hit snooze, switch on the flashlight, and I'm off to get dressed. Perfect!

THAT being said, design-wise it has a LOT of irritating aspects. Not only do you have to open the battery compartment to switch OFF (as opposed to snooze) the alarm, but setting it is a HUGE pain! You have to set it from 12 AM!?! One click at a time!!! And snooze and indiglo are the same... switch or whatever you'd call it. Also, I hate having to screw around with AAA batteries! Well, at least they're not C.

All in all, though, I recommend it as long as it keeps working (and I'll update this review if it does!!!)

In my opinion, you get what you pay for. For 2o bucks, you might get little annoyances, but overall you get an alarm clock that keeps time accurately and alarms you when you want it to. Upon reading other reviews for different alarm clocks, keeping time accurately or not having the alarm go off is a big issue in many alarm clocks. So, even though this one might not have 180 degree viewing angles, or the knob might have a weird feel to it, overall for bucks I'm not expecting the Rolex of alarm clocks, just something to keep time accurately and wake me up in the morning. Overall, I can say that I am 100 percent satisfied with my purchase!

January 9 2010: I amended the review to add some details about a couple problems I've had with the phone, slowdowns which lead to lockups and twice it suffered a system crash that leads to wiping out the phone's memory. I devoted a lot of the amended review to a hassle I had with Nokia's customer service. I realize that's unfair and irrelevant to the review of the phone, so I removed it.

Although it says I bought the phone from Amazon I actually bought it direct from Nokia. I canceled the Amazon order when I thought they had the wrong color. I'm sorry that happened because buying it from Amazon would have been a better experience. (another edit: since installing the new firmware, any stability issues the phone had seem to have been solved)

My original review:

The quality of the materials and the fit/finish & construction is the first thing I noticed, taking this out of the box. It has nice surfaces everywhere, a shiny steel bezel on the front and highlights around the bottom section, a matte black (brownish) metal finish on the bottom with a steel battery door and camera lens bezel. The battery door latches securely (and easily) unlike any phone I've ever owned. The phone feels heavy in a high quality way. It fits in your hand in a way that makes it feel much thinner than you would expect from the measurements. The flare at the bottom makes it feel more secure in your hand. The raised lens bezel makes it easy to avoid inadvertently using the camera lens as a finger grip.

so many pros...

-Touchscreen is very responsive and has kinetic scrolling and it's easy to stop the screen without accidentally launching something.

-Browser is full screen and looks great. (embedded con I'm not sure I like the controls that pop up for some basic stuff like "back" or bookmarks. I can't find an easy way to backtrack in sites without bringing up the clunky set of controls.)

-The 3-row back-lit keyboard is easy to see in dim light, and it looks awesome with the gray and orange illumination. The layout works great for me, I'm already comfortable with how it works and find it much nicer than keyboards with 5 rows of keys.

-16 x 9 screen has excellent color and brightness, even outside. Perfect format for watching movies full screen.

-Has native support for Flash and java so Youtubes and flash based websites look like they should. (does not support Flash 10 hopping for an update)

-When you open the keyboard the screen tilts into a good viewing angle, either for typing with your thumbs or setting it on a table. Works great for watching videos, you don't have to prop it up on something.

-Stereo speakers sound great for speaker phone. (edited to add: the speaker quality continues to impress me. They also work good for listening to the FM radio.) Music sounds outstanding through headphones, it sounds like a high-end MP3 player. Music Player has the best sorting, album art, searching, Playlist creating and ID3Tag editing I've ever seen on a phone wow.

-Accelerometer is pretty fast and all menus and screens and all but a few third-party apps have a landscape mode. You have to turn it on, it's off by default. The keyboard forces a landscape mode.

-This is the most customizable phone I've ever had. Nothing is locked in place, put it wherever it works best for you. I've already downloaded about a dozen themes and love how much you can personalize the appearance of the menus and screens, even the icons.

-The widgitized home screen is of course just as customizable but has another feature I wasn't expecting. You can swipe your finger across it and hide all the widgets so your phone display is just the wallpaper you chose and the clock at the top. Another swipe brings them back.

- Call quality and signal strength is very good what you would expect from Nokia. I'm replacing a Samsung Eternity and this phone is a dramatic contrast, it's so much better.

-All the phone stuff, voice dial, speed dial, endless contact list with all the fields you could ever need, excellent contact list access/search, full MP3 ringtones, etc. It's all there and implemented very well.

-It comes loaded with apps, all of which can be removed if you want. Email is available in a couple different ways, a pay push system or free mail client in the messaging bundle. POP3 or IMAP.

-App stores for Symbian S60 are plentiful and there are loads of free apps and themes as well as ones you pay for.

-GPS is fast to fix on a location and stays locked on very well. Works much better outside than it does indoors.

-WiFi was easy to set up with MAC address and WPA security on my home system. It seems a bit flakey about staying connected or the phone deciding which network to use for certain apps, GSM or WiFi. I haven't found the way to configure this yet but I'm sure it's in there somewhere. (edited: a call to nokia support took care of this. There is a way to make it ask which connection to use when launching)

-Headphone jack has video out and hands-free mic & music controller inside the single 3.5mm plug. A nice set of headphones with mic and music controls is included but no video cable.

-Camera is excellent from what I can tell, haven't tried the video recorder yet.

you get the idea... I really like this phone. It does everything and does it in a mature way, the OS feels like it's no-nonsense, something made for adults.

Now the cons (including a big one oops nokia!)

-limited video codec support. No DiVX. Player is from Real Player. I'm looking for a video player app to replace it any suggestions would be appreciated.

-photo viewer doesn't recognize folders. This means all your contacts, album art, phone photos and collections of photos are all in one list, not necessarily sorted in the order you would expect. It's a pain to do anything with photos (my old phone worked the same way). ***I see there are third--party apps that seem to address all the issues.***

I have an older model of this alarm clock and it is the best alarm clock I've ever owned. In fact, I like it so much I'm buying one for my boyfriend.

There are two alarms, I like to keep one for my usual wake time and use the other for other purposes, a nap AND a sleep feature, as well as a snooze button, AM/FM radio, and an auxiliary jack for an mp3 player. The numbers are bright and large and no problem to read. The time is easy to set. All you do is select daylight savings, or not, and push the time zone button until it cycles to your time zone. The only thing that was difficult to get the hang of was using the nap feature. You push the button once, select the desired time, and push it again to set the alarm. To turn it off you have to push and hold the nap button until the "nap" blinks three times and the display returns to the time.

This has some really nice features, and the display is easy to read. The auto time feature worked great. The only thing it needs is a better speaker. The one we bought ten years ago has a much better sound. This one has a very tinny and cheap sound quality.

I am a huge iHome fan and have been buying their products for years. In fact, whenever it comes time for me to replace or buy an iPod dock in my home, I look for an iHome.

On my nightstand I currently have/had the iHome iH80 Speaker System for iPod (Black) . I bought it on February 28, 2008 when it was a Deal of the Day. To this day it looks and works like it is brand new! In my bathroom I currently have the iHome iH22SV Alarm Clock Speaker System for iPod . I wanted both docks to charge. I loved that the one in my bedroom had a remote and not necessarily a lighted clock. Sometimes lights are too bright. The bathroom iHome I have only had for a few months and wanted it to be small and with a lighted clock. I need to know what time it is as I get ready. The one in the bathroom even though it is small, the sound is tinny and the time is always off a few minutes. I have reset the time but somehow it always ends a few minutes behind again.

In comes the iHome iD37. I decided to replace my nightstand iHome with the new unit. The iD37 has a small footprint and leaves a lot more space on my nightstand. Comparing it to the iH80, I love that the unit is smaller and easier to reach. I took pictures and added them to the gallery so you could see the unit with both other iHomes I own. I placed my newest generation iPod touch on the unit and just hit the `time synch' button and boom, it displayed the time that the iPod has! No more hitting buttons for endless minutes if the power goes out. Plus, it comes with a back up battery in case the battery does go out. The equalizer is a nice touch but I use the one built into the iPod. I love that I can turn the bass, treble, or balance, up/down or left/right. The unit also comes with a remote which my iH80 had and has a similar layout. I owned my other remote for over 3 years and it never died on me and I used it every night. I also read in another review the remote comes with an extra battery. Mine came with only one, it is in a separate bag though so you can place it into the remote once you open the box, no corrosion then. I was fearful that the dimmer/lighted clock might be too bright. My iH22 has only 3 light settings and at it highest I use it as a night light in my bathroom. This one has 8 settings, 7 going from high to low and the 8th is off completely. I love that! I do not have to be blinded with a light on my night stand.

Sound wise I don't know how they got so much sound in such a small unit. I expected since it was about the same size of my iH22 the sound might be similar. However, the sound is INCREDIBLE!! It is rich and fills the room! It amazes me that it is coming from such a small device. Another thing that fit the bill for me is the USB port on the side. I charge my phone on a bookcase across the bedroom and like to sleep with my cell phone on my night stand. This solves that! I used a USB cable with a micro USB and it can stay on my night stand now and I can charge it if need be. That is a wonderful feature to have! I have tested this unit on the first generation iPod and the latest and both play flawlessly.

I could not be happier with the dock. If I were to tell iHome all the features I wanted in a unit, they just built it! Please look at the photo gallery to get an idea on the size of the unit compare to other iHome models. I would not pass this one up if it has all the features you are looking for.

I've been trying different alarm clocks to try and find one that fit all my criteria and it looks like I've accomplished my goal. Here are the reasons I like this clock.

Pros:

1. Display is big enough to read when I make up in the middle of the night. Numerals are about an inch tall LCD, black on a white background.

2. Display has 7 settings. Just click through the settings until you find the brightness that's right for you to sleep with. The final setting turns the display off completely (it re-lights when the alarm goes off).

3. Alarm is easy to set and can be setup for 7, 5, or 2 day. Can set 2 alarms.

4. Time auto synchs. DST is set with a switch in the back.

5. Can use buzzer, playlist (requires a specific playlist name through iTunes to work),iPod/iTouch/iPhone, or radio.

6. Can preset up to 6 radio stations.

7. Controls are easy to access and use. Setup instructions are clear and easy to follow.

8. Comes with 2 AA battery backup. Will warn you when these batteries need to be changed.

9. Charges iPod/iTouch/iPhone while attached. Also has a USB port to charge a separate device (may not work on specific devices).

10. Can play an older device through the 3.5mm Aux connection (e.g. iPod Shuffle).

11. Has a remote control that actually comes with an extra battery. I've never seen that before.

12. Small footprint on my nightstand.

Cons:

1. Can't set a custom alarm (e.g. Tuesdays and Thursdays only). Minor nit but worth mentioning.

2. Has a brick type power cord.

Overall this clock is highly recommended. The speakers sound surprisingly good for such a small device. Has an equalizer so you can tweak the sound to your liking. Fairly basic changes but it's really kind of an icing on the cake type feature. No more clock hunting for me!

The sound quality of the machine is awesome! It holds the ipod and iphone perfectly on the, the ipad when connected must be kept away from anything that can knock into it as it will cause the docking station to flip. The only other issue we had was that it doesnt have am radio which we listened to in the morning before work. It also has usb ports to charge other media like my kindle. Other than that it was a great purchase and I am happy with it.

First the bad: if you are using an iPad, make sure you add the extra dock padding. The connector is slightly raised, and if you don't use the dock pad, you will find that your iPad will be unstable. If the unit is suddenly moved or something hits the unit awkwardly, your connector and iPad jack is at risk for damage.

Otherwise, I'm quite pleased with this unit. There are quite a few buttons to learn how to use, and the unit has a rechargeable battery system that is very useful for when you lose power or the (unwieldy) power supply unit is not plugged into an outlet. The supplementary USB jack is very useful. I can use/charge my Apple products and my Android phone, or another USB gadget at the same time.

The radio does have a separate, thin wired antenna. I simply wrapped it around the power cord so that it wouldn't get accidentally eaten by a cat.
