Honeywell TN924W Weather Information Station, Black

I wanted to write my own review of the Honeywell TN924W after reading the reviews here. I agree with almost all of the statements here, both pro and con. But most of the complaints are subjective, and what kills the unit for some might be acceptable for others.

Although the unit can display lots of information, it can only display a few pieces of data at a time. The buttons to cycle through the different types of data are inconveniently located on the back of the unit. While not ideal, you will get used to the "touch and feel" system after awhile. However, this precludes mounting the unit on a wall using the included bracket. This is a rather bad oversight, in my opinion.

The station will drop the signal from the remote sensors, too. This is an annoyance, but an easy fix once you learn how to force the unit to search for signals (Just hold down the "down" button on the back for a few seconds). Unfortunately, the included manual is pretty bad and not much help in finding solutions for the quirks of the Honeywell. I downloaded an updated PDF version from the Honeywell website that is much better.

One reviewer stated that the backlight is too bright. The backlight can be turned on, off, or set on automatic. If you find it to be too bright, you can always turn it off.

The Honeywell TN924W is the only weather station I have ever owned or am familiar with, so I cannot compare it to anything else. While not perfect, I am very happy with mine. I recently received the Weather View 32 software for uploading my weather data to my personal website, Weather Underground, and CWOP. It took some figuring out, but everything is up and running wonderfully.

The Honeywell TN924W is an impressive little unit, with lots of features and tons of potential. But it is not without its quirks. Remember that it is a piece of technical scientific equipment. If you don't have the patience to learn the unit and work through a few minor issues, you could very well become frustrated. Don't expect it to work perfectly right out of the box. You need to go through a somewhat lengthy setup process, and you need to do some research (find your latitude, longitude, and elevation) to complete the setup.

This is the first complete weather station that offers the s.a.m.e noaa weather radio reports. This feature sounds fine and works once you set it up, but has some design flaws. You can not make the alarm part of the radio any softer although you can turn the alarm and voice off entirely if you wish to. However, they included a volume for the voice. The problem is that even the voice being set to the lowest level in my case is still too loud. The alarm also goes off whether you set it to voice mode or not so you either have to turn it off or keep them both on.

As far as th weather station goes it gives all the features of other weather stations minus the UV light. One other note is that they removed the remote that the previous version had and I am not sure what made them do this as all the buttons are in the back of the base unit so the remote would have made it easier to operate all the functions the weather station has to offer.

It took an hour or so to mount the outdoor instruments and they immeadiatly started communicating with the base unit and all seem accurate enough. I am however still wondering about the built in barometer as I have seen the barometer change too rapidly so I am not sure if this flaw exists in all the base units. Honeywell said that they are shipping another base unit so I will have to see if the same problem exists.

There are some other features like a sensor light that works well and the included simplistic software package for a USB connection to a computer so you can monitor the weather records.

It is still nice to see that the main selling point of this weather station being the weather radio in this case works if you can live with its flaws. Honeywell would have the perfect weather tool if they would redesign some things and fix other things with the weather station.

sorry to report that this product needs help...the buttons on the back are very inconvenient because they do not allow you to see the information on the front as you meander trying to reach the correct program...one mistake and you start all over and there are times you are attempting to receive information and before you realize it you have touched a button that has put you into a different setting. also the anometer range is only 100 feet at best while the site states 300 feet...regretfully it was returned...amazon is really great in this respect.

UPDATED REVIEW:

Unit stopped receiving signals from both the ANEMOMETER and outdoor TEMP/HUMIDITY; I would reset them and they would drop off again in a few days. As well weather radio stop functioning today. I no longer recommend this product to anyone. The unit worked OK for about 5 months then it just started flaking out. Sensors drop outs, screen glitches, and finally the weather radio just stopped working. It's obvious from all of the reviews this isn't a quality unit.

Don't waste your money on this piece of junk. The base station will not stay connected with the sensors even though the thermo-hygrometer sensor is less than 5 feet away. Technical support is worthless. Their support consists of asking if you have changed the batteries. They finally sent a new base unit which worked for about 5 days before losing contact. The back light on the display is too bright to have in a room where you might want to sleep. The buttons for programing and changing the display screen are on the back and very hard to use since you can't see them and the display at the same time.

For this review I expected a good small footprint sound bar for a bedroom.

I got this sound bar at work because I wanted something better than TV stereo but nothing too crazy. This sound bar has good audio quality and even has decent bass and treble settings

It looks nice with blue lit buttons and a blue lit front display that dims when not in use. The iPod drawer is automatic and you don't have to press to release like many others. It can wall mount using two hinges that you screw into the wall and attach to a rail on the back.

By now you probably know that this product has no IR code for universal remotes. You should also know that the remote it comes with isn't great either. It seems like it only works well when you are directly in front of the sound bar and not too far off to the side. Also, it would seem a higher than normal percentage of these are DOA and don't power on for very long before dying. Just be aware and have it exchanged if yours smells like burnt plastic when you turn it on.

We bought this because our Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV has terrible sound (we knew this when we bought it). But it was worse than we thought it would be we had to turn the tv way up to make out what people were saying. This is a big improvement. The glaring omission with this product is that there is no way to integrate this with our At&t uverse remote. I called their customer service (be prepared to reach India) and they verified this. Of course, this is a sound bar designed to be used with a television why wouldn't you include this capability? Every other television accessory has this simple feature and has had it for years. If we used a separate remote for every accessory, we would be using 4 different remotes! Big miss on that feature.

I wish I paid more attention to the negative reviews on this before buying it. The sound is Ok for the price. The fact that it won't work with any universal remotes is a big draw back. But the worst thing about it is that it constantly randomly turns on to the FM mode with the volume very high. It does this whether it is turned off or on and regardless what source it was on. It will do it every couple of days and is VERY loud! Sometimes in the middle of the night even. I can't return it and dislike it so much that I am [probably going to go give it to charity. I think this might be the first or second product review I have ever written, I only write them if I am really happy or really disappointed with a product. DO NOT BUY!

I've had my Sony Clock Radio for quite a while now. It's durable (I've dropped it several times down several flights of stairs, but it's still here and working) and performs as advertised. One minor complaint though. The radio doesn't go very loud without distortion. But who would want to crank an alarm clock radio up anyways??? Overall, this is a great product.

I bought an Airplay2 from am Apple store for around $60. Other than the fact that "blank" FM stations are hard to find in the New York Metropolitan area, and that you need to keep changing to different "blank" stations as you drive, the product itself is simply terrible. Even if you are in a parking lot, and find a "blank" FM station, the quality of the music the Airplay broadcasts is very bad. The bass is almost non-existent, and there is a constant hiss in the background that you cannot get rid of. This product is not worth buying, especially for $60.

I didn't have any trouble with this whatsoever. I live in the UK and we have many fewer radio channels, but you can't blame the manufacturers for not being able to find a frequency to use.

I managed to set it up in two seconds and it amazes everyone I show it to. The sound quality is the same as if I were playing CDs over the stereo.

Try it, and if you don't like it, take it back. It's worth it, 'cos if it works, you'll be using it every day.

I picked one of these up from the Apple store and used it that day. Not only does the product not broadcast well (I had to hold it two feet from my radio, it didn't even get a signal in the car on any frequency) but it dosent stay in the dock connector. The transmitter actually will not lock into the bottom of the iPod. The transmitter also appears to turn off after 5 seconds of not touching the buttons. The LCD screen turns off so you cannot see the frequency it is transmitting on. Because it worked so poorly I couldn't tell if it was broadcasting or if it was simply broken. An indicator saying whether the transmitter was on or off would be helpful and not a huge battery drain.

If you want a knockoff transmitter that works only when placed perfectly next to your radio than get this. If you want something that works consider the iTrip by Griffin.

Pros:

*Gorgeous contemporary design with mirror and stainless steel look. The LED display magically floats in the mirror.

*Very low level brightness yet perfectly legible and without glare. Many alarm clocks are way too bright even on dim settings. If the brightness of alarm clocks bothers you, this clock should work well for you.

*Easy to figure out without instructions which makes it a viable option for guest bedrooms.

Cons:

*When adjusting the alarms, there is no indication on the LED display which alarm you are adjusting. Compounding this problem is when you turn on an alarm, there is no way to see what time the alarm is set for. It's far too easy to adjust one alarm and turn on the other by mistake. This is a MAJOR negative. The display also doesn't tell you if the alarm is set for buzzer or radio. The lack of information on the display makes it impossible to adjust in the dark.

*No fast reverse. To adjust times, there is a fast forward button and a slow reverse button. I like clocks that also have fast reverse which makes changing alarm times easier and quicker.

*Slide controls are small and difficult to use. The distance between settings is very small so it can be frustrating.

*Buzzer volumes are not adjustable. Alarm 1 is set at a low volume which is very quiet and might not work for sound sleepers. Alarm 2 is slightly louder but it's still quieter than any other alarm clock I've used. With both alarms, you do have the option of waking up with radio which is volume adjustable and gets very loud.

*No gradually increasing alarm volume.

*Radio is not digital. Not a major issue but the dial is small so it's hard to know what station you're on.

*No nap function.

*The audio cable in the back doesn't stay in the holder and flops around annoyingly. I have since cut it off.

*Snooze not adjustable (set at 7 minutes).

Overall, this alarm clock would work well in a guest bedroom where style is of paramount importance. For your main alarm clock, you should consider something with better functionality.

I have been looking for "the perfect" clock radio for quite a while and I think I found it!

A marvel of engineering and design -it's light, airy, amazing looking yet sturdy and substantial at the same time. This is so well designed! I find that the buttons are in the right places, easy to get to and intuitive, they feel very substantial and not flimsy and cheap like so many other electronics today. I don't know how they were able to make a piece that is so substantial and solid feeling yet airy and light and unobtrusive looking. A really great job done though! I am quite impressed and very pleasantly surprised, this feels like a product that will last, which sometimes seems like a thing of teh pasttoay everything is made to toss...

I love the non digital radio station dial-I live in a mountainous area where it's very hard to get any reception, and the manual tuner is a must. And this one is well made and sensitive -I actually get several stations with this, which I have never been able to get with others I have tried.

On top of it the light display is brilliantly done! The mirror finish is really cool it's a smoky color so not like a shiny standard mirror. And the time is displayed in a golden color that makes it really easy at a quick glance see what time it is whether it's light or dark in the room, yet at night it's very unobtrusive. Living in the mountains we have no ambient light (except the moon when it's full) coming into the bedroom. So, any light source really pops out and I have a hard time sleeping with that in the room. So I have been looking for one that didn't keep me awake. I have tried several ones with adjustable displays but ended up having to toss a piece of clothing over each one I have tried, which makes it a useless time keeper. This one was just perfect.

I really, really like this clock radio and can highly recommend it.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) The last thing I want to do when I wake up is look in the mirror. However, even thought this Philips Alarm Clock's face is mostly one large mirror, it still looks sleek. The time is shown through the mirrored surface in bright yellow with adjustable brightness. It looks great, stands vertically about six inches and has all the basic features of a typical alarm clock. However, don't get too excited.

My previous alarm clock was easy to just reach over and slam the snooze button until I was ready to wake up. The snooze here is not so easy to find being a small tab on the top. There are two alarms (typical) that you can set to the radio, a buzz (one second beep tones) or off. They are difficult to set as the front display does not show you which setting is which. The font is very hard to read, being a tiny gray typeset on a black background. The other side contains the volume wheel, a radio tuner for AM/FM and a small dial to find radio stations (Look at the photo I included for size comparison). There is also an AUX setting as you can hook up your iPod/MP3 in the back. The cord for the iPod/MP3 is supposed to fit snugly around the back, but the slot it was designed for is too short, so the cord hangs loose. The top has the small linear tabs for `On/Off', `alarm reset' and `sleep'. The largest tab is the `Repeat Alarm/Sleep Off' on top. Its very compact, but not the easiest to set up. Do note that you need bright light to work any of the setup functions; not a dark room.

Aside from the small settings and type, this Philips Clock does look nice with the mirror finish and yellow clock shining through. That is it's sales quality. The materials are all plastic and I wonder if it could survive a drop to the floor. The 1.5" speaker is not Hi-Fidelity. Other than the appearance, there isn't much else going on here, so you might think about keeping your current alarm clock. It just looks good. Think about that with the price.

The fit and finish was very nice. The mirror is stylish but I really don't want to see my ugly mug early in morning.

The orange LED was a nice touch. Not as bright as the 'regular' green LED's on most alarm. On dim mode it doesn't light up a dark room.

The MP3 mode leaves something to be desired. If you're in the room with your MP3 player hooked up your OK listening to tunes, but I like waking up to certain music in the morning. I don't know about your MP3 player but I cannot leave it on all night without the battery dying by morning.

It's a cool alarm clock but only adequate for an MP3 Player.

This clock has a nice, modern look with large amber colored numbers. The alarm buttons are horribly designed, however. You can snooze, but cannot turn off/change the alarm without picking up the whole clock. The buttons are flush with the body and don't slide easily so you more or less have to pick up the whole thing to do anything to it. Not fun when you're half asleep. The body tips forward easily too.

I have had this player for about 1 month now. Have only used it for music so far. Had issue getting one computer to recognize the player while a different computer had no issues. Level I tech support was not very helpful (wanted the player sent back for repair even though it was a Windows problem), and level II support quite knowledgeable (make sure you have the .net updates installed they ask you to install all optional Windows updates). It was nice to actually have a real person answer the tech support phone # with very short wait.

I had wanted to get a Sansa, but could not understand why players purchased in the USA have no Asian language support, but if you buy a Sansa in say Hong Kong then you can buy it with Asian language support. They also refuse to provide that option through firmware upgrade. The T10 automatically displayed correctly the song names in my music library that were in Chinese.

Pros:

Great music quality great, and even better battery life (3 day car trip without recharging). The player is stylish, small, and very lightweight.

Many ways to sync using included software, Windows Media Player, or drag and drop from Explorer.

Cons:

No easy way to manage playlists. If you create playlists in the included software, all songs in the playlist are transferred to the same folder. Say you created 3 folders in the T10 to manage music, and a song happens to be in 2 playlists -> this song would be copied twice to the 2 folders. Of course, this eats up memory fast. Why use folders? Because I like to organize my music, and also to avoid filename conflicts from older CD's which have ripped songs with filenames like 'track 1', etc.

Another feature that would be nice is to be able to play all songs in a genre or master folder, instead of having to drill down to the album and only playing that album. For a long car trip, I would prefer that the T10 plays multiple albums without need of user intervention.

Miss the feature in iTunes where I could set up sync profiles to sync different set of songs to the iPOD depending on what portion of my library I wanted to take.

Recommendation:

Definitely a good player worth buying.

Other reviews (including a great review by Mariofrancis1 on youtube.com) have provided very useful information on this player. The elements on which I found it more difficult to find information were the voice audio elements of players. So, after testing the T10, here's how it performs on that score:

(i) fm radio T10 finds stations automatically or manually with ease, but the autosearch is not as quick as that of the Zune. Many stations are crystal clear, but others are a little scratchy. Another player with fm radio is Sony, whose player also works well.

(ii) podcasts No problems here. These can be set up via subscription so that the latest podcasts are downloaded automatically as soon as the player is connected to the laptop at lightning speed deleting the earlier casts, but not other files. The number of downloads per podcast can be individualized for each podcast for the last 2, 5, 10 (etc) feeds.

(iii) Playback of secure/protected WMA I considered this element essential so that I could borrow free eAudiobooks from my local library (via Netlibrary) rather than pay to download them from commercial websites. Here the T10 performed well, although you do have to route your downloaded eAudiobook through Windows Media Player before transferring it to the T10. If you don't, the files remain locked and cannot be transferred to the player. The T10 also has a bookmarking function (not available on all WMA-compatible players), which means you can bookmark your Audiobook, go off to play some music and come back to the exact place on your Audiobook where you left off.

(iv) Long battery life at 30-35 hours playback time, it should survive most intercontinental plane trips.

I have owned almost 10 iPods, and afterall, they are iPods; you really can't beat them in terms of their user-interface, design and ease of use. On top of that, I barely have any complaint over the iPhone, it's the Jesus phone, for Christ's sake! (pun intended)

But then on my recent trip to HK, I picked up a Samsung T10 to hold some new music that I have ripped from my old CD collection. Because if you sync your iPhone with another computer, all the songs residing on the iPhone will be erased, so basically I just couldn't add new music to my iPhone and I wanted to get a budget MP3 player.

Anyway, I was overwhelmed by the features and qualities of the T10, besides the so so UI (Apple is better on this). First of all, the sound quality blows, really blows. The clarity is so much better than all the iPods I have ever owned. That said, I am using the same crappy Apple headphones. The bass is deep and vibrant. The T10 has an FM radio with auto presets, voice recording, Bluetooth connection to my BT stereo headphones which enables me to listen to music wirelessly. The best of all, is that you can record FM radio broadcast and the T10 instantly turns it into an MP3.

I am so giving up listening to my music on the iPods/iPhone for this little wonder.

Unlike the Sansa piece of junk we bought in October, this Samsung mp3 player is a solid item, with many more capabilities, and built-in durability.

The unit also has the added advantage of being Linux compatible, as it recognizes all unix-based sound codecs.

For a 4 gigabyte unit, with a one-year manufacturer warranty (not only 90 days), turn to this fine Samsung unit.

We did, and I only wish we'd saved ourselves the aggravation, and bought the Samsung model the first time.

I've just had "Sammy" a couple of days but I'm hooked. I purchased it solely for music but may play with some of the other features eventually.

It's not quite perfect:

* I haven't yet found a case for it (but a small $10 Case Logic case for a digital camera works fine for now);

* FM radio is a bit scratchy but I can live with it;

* There's a lanyard strap hole but no lanyard (what would it cost them? 4 cents?);

* It will only charge via the proprietary USB cable (but I'm not likely to spend 30 hours in the woods with it so it's no problem to recharge it).

But darn close:

* Great design, seemingly sturdy, fun to just poke and discover all the features;

* Intuitive I'm no gear head and this is my first mp3 player but I managed to organize and load songs without consulting the online manual;

* Easy navigation folks complained that the screen on the T9 was too sensitive but I haven't had any problems with the T10 and find it easy to move around the menus;

* Great sound, includes both preset and custom EQ settings. I don't care for ear buds but several different headphones sound sweet;

* The sample videos that it came with look great;

* Nice price.

It's exactly what I wanted and more. Very much recommended.

I read some negative reviews and was quite skeptical... however I bought this for my girls nursery, wanted a pink cd player that also had glowing time for late night feeding tracking and its really cute and compact for my small table. The CD Player is easy, just hit play and i keep baby music in there, I like that it shuts off after the cd plays so I can just leave it to soothe her to sleep. All in all it works fine. The radio doesnt work great but I just wanted time and cd function and the pop pink makes it real cute.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) iHome has so many versions of this "Home System" that I've lost track. Most of them are within this price range and under one-hundred dollars. I have to say, this is probably the best, most basic, `all you need' model yet. It will take your iPod, iPhone or iPad. Sure, the clock works great with two alarms and the capacity to set to weekdays or weekends or a combo. The clock sets itself, as well as the time and calendar with a simple click of the `clock' button. You also are suggested to `update your iD45 firmware'; meaning your iHome settings are upgraded to the latest devices, meaning your clock is readily updatable without waiting for those early bugs to be fixed. You can listen to your "device", the radio (AM/FM) and other portable devices through the auxiliary input in the back. The sound? It is the best so far, as now there is an equalizer allowing you to set the treble, bass and balance. PLUS, 3D Sound. This feature is new, but the difference is remarkable, as you really get a fuller sound compared to all other iHome docks I have heard. It will fill a small room without any distortion.

The top of the unit is `flush' with the buttons, making it look sleek and the Flexible 30-pin connector is long enough that you can leave your iPhone/iPod case on and it still works. An Otterbox would be too large. All these units have that proprietary power plug that hangs so you have to place it on the bottom of the two wall sockets. It also has a silly wafer-thin remote that you can lose the first day, but...

At the outset, let me say I am not a tech expert. I am pretty well versed in computers, iPads, iPods and iPhones. The iHome App-Enhanced Dual Alarm Stero Clock Radio Docking Station was quite easy to set up.

The iHome came very well packaged, double environmental packing on both sides of the iHome. Tape held everything together snugly. The iHome set slid out of the package easily once both taped sides were cut. Covered in plastic and directions visible on the top of the plastic. The iHome is quite attractive, black with silver sides that enclose the audio. The top of the system has a secure dock for the iPad or iPhone. Explicit warnings are attached to Never pull or push the iPad forward when docked, and to lift the rear and tilt the iHome forward when the iPad is docked. Must have had a problem with ths area in the past.

Instructions are explicit and very easy to set up the iHome. You may have the free iHome app available from iTunes. If you don't have it, a pop up gives you instructions on how to obtain the app. I plugged in the iHome, attached my iPad to the dock, and the time was synced from the iPad to the iHome. I set the FM radio stations I wanted by pressing the Radio Preset button. All done. You can easily listen to your iPad or iPod music by pressing the mode button to change settings. A word about the soundit is the best I have heard on an iHome product, equal to my Bose. Really, outstanding!

Once the clock and radio are set-up, you are free to set the time and calendar manually. Set the alarm, snooze and reviewing the On and Off functions of the alarm.

The remote control is small, so place it in an area you will remember. Simple and easy instructions for the remote control, self explanatory, really. Directions are given on how to change the remote button.

The iA91 is a dual alarm clock radio for iPhone and iPod that lets you charge your iPhone or iPod and lets you wake and sleep to either one, to a custom playlist, or to AM/FM radio. A time sync button syncs the clock to your iPhone to set the time quickly. This is all very simple to set up, and mine was ready for use in 10 minutes.

My wife got an iPad this Christmas and until now was unable to charge it in one of our other chargers. So, we constantly had to plug it into a wall outlet which doesn't sound difficult, but we live in an older house with limited outlets and we have 2 iPhones and 3 iPods as well as other gadgets that need power. This dock helps greatly with that since it doubles as an alarm clock as well. Another great feature of this is the sound. It actually sounds much crisper than our older docks and also works with a remote which is good and bad (bad for remembering where you put it down). Overall, this docking station is awesome. First off, the shipping came safe and sound. Well packaged and protected.

The set up is a breeze pop in your 30-pin iPod,iPad, or iPhone, and it auto syncs with all the necessary information. No pushing buttons and adjusting the time and date, which saves a bit of time.

The sound volume and quality is OK. I have owned other iHome alarm clocks, and it is comparable to those. Not Bose quality, but good enough for a bedroom alarm clock.

i like the bullet type retro look a good look on a vintage bike. i have a '82 FLH with screaming eagle pipes loud as hell on the road i can still hear them. A radio was never intended on my bike so i use this with an mp3. My bikes not the smoothest ride either and the brackets are holding. The systems dam good at the price.

These things are extremely shinny bright and sometimes have to be tilted to avoid glare. If you look real close at the image you can see some dude chillin in the reflection....lol...like a freakin mirror.

Since there bike mount bluetooth distance is only important if your taking a break. i crank it up sometimes in the garage when tinkering, its two bay about 500 sq. and sound fills it up.

I was shocked when i received that item. It looks very cheap, and made out of plastic easy to break and scratch. Sound has acceptable quality only at about 30% of volume, which is comparable to a volume of a good mobile phone's loudspeaker. If you make volume higher it sounds absolutely ugly, so it is not usable on a motorcycle. However i gave it a try and mounted it to test. On maximum volume i could hardly hear words from any song while moving. And after all it broke after 30 minutes of use. When i disassemble it i've found that the amplifier chip itself was torn apart from the board and some wires on it were broken. So what i have now is just a dump of cheap plastic and wiring... Would never buy this again!!

I have ordered two different sets of these new and both came in boxes that appeared to have been opened with parts just thrown in the boxes and neither unit has worked. I returned the first set thinking there was a screw up somewhere but when the second set came in today I was not so sure.

The first thing is... after you have connected to power(directly to battery as per instructions) a red light turns on and wont go off, which means constant battery draw....ok you could incorporate a switch if you want. Secondly, neither unit would even let me do blue tooth, one of the main reasons why I purchased the units, so I had to hard wire the units with supplied audio cord. Third neither unit would let me turn the units volume down except via the phone. None of the function buttons worked on either unit. Very disappointed with purchase.... guess thats what you get when you try to buy cheap...save the headache and by a better unit.

I purchased both the Philips Fidelio DS7550 Rechargeable Portable Docking Speaker for iPod/iPhone (Aluminum/Black) and the Logitech S715i Rechargeable Speaker for iPod and iPhoneto choose one as a travel speaker when I want something more substantial than my ALTEC LANSING iM207 Orbit-MP3. Here is a quick comparison.

-Build quality. Both are very solid and seem like they will hold up well. The Logitech seemed slightly more substantial, but I see no problem with tossing either in a suitcase for traveling. One thing to note, the Philips will accommodate an iPhone 4 in a bumper case while you have to take the phone out of the case for the Logitech.

-Size. While the dimensions don't look that much different between the two, the Logitech is substantially bigger and somewhat heavier. I can't picture carrying the Logitech in a daypack, but it would be doable with the Philips.

-Sound quality. At low volume levels, the Logitech had a slightly fuller sound. At high volume levels operating on battery power the Logitech again had a slight edge. At high volume levels while plugged in, there was no comparison. The Logitech rocked louder and with a much deeper bass. It seemed as though when you unplugged the Logitech that the bass boost was shut off.

In the end I chose the Philips. Since both will be plenty loud for a hotel room where most of my listening would be done, I chose the Philips for it's much smaller size and portability. For poolside where they'll be running off battery, the sound difference wasn't substantial enough to choose the larger Logitech. However, if you're going to be using mainly AC and want the best sound, choose the Logitech. While it's larger than the Philips, it's certainly not too large to bring to a party at a friend's house or similar usage and offers a fuller sound. For air travel and packing in your luggage though, the Philips is a much less bulky package.

I was skeptical when I ordered this product: after all, how could something so slim-line and small compare to my full-sized stereo? I was floored. This product not only gives a clear, sharp sound it also holds its own in the bass. My iphone easily pops on and off for easy access, but doesn't slip off (preventing damage to the phone). When there's an incoming call I can answer it and use the speaker feature to leave the phone on the dock or pick it up. My family loves music and bass is a very important part of it. We tested the Philips Fidelio DS7550 Rechargeable Portable Docking Speaker for iPod/iPhone (Aluminum/Black) against our Bose Wave using Michael Jackson's Thriller. We found that the DS7550 had a touch more bass than the Bose Wave, but we could hear more instruments with the Wave. Even though my hubby doesn't think the DS7550 has the best bass he's heard, he says it's good for the size of the unit. As he walked by while I was writing my review, he asked me if he could use the Philips docking speaker with his 4th generation IPod Nano while he paid the bills. Did it matter to him that I had the speaker hooked up to my ASUS laptop listening to my favorite worship music on youtube? I guess not. Two hours later, he returned the speaker. He said it sounded even bassier (is that a word?) when he listened with his Bose mini earbuds.

It has a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery that will last up to 8 hours (we've tested it for 5 hours so far). Included in the box are two, very nice, padded carrying cases...one for the speaker & a smaller one for the AC adapter and the 3.5-mm auxiliary cable. There are three buttons on top of the speaker: On/Off; Volume; Bass (with dbb). You can turn the DBB (dynamic bass boost) on or off. On the back is the stand (pull out on the smaller dk. gray, rubbery piece to open stand), an AUX input, and a 9v connection for the AC adapter. The AUX in allows other electronic devices to be hooked up to the speaker. Right now, I'm listening to my hubby's old IRiver MP3 player. I hooked it up to the speaker's AUX in, using the included auxiliary cable. The other end is hooked into the MP3 player. And, I want to tell you that the sound is absolutely incredible!!!! I love it!!!! Earlier, I had the speaker hooked up to my laptop and listened to music on youtube.

My daughter downloaded the free Fidelio app for her IPod Touch & tried most of the available functions. The check battery function didn't seem to work properly. It showed the battery life at 100% power, but the battery had been in use for 3 hours. The next time she tried to check the battery life, the function was missing. We didn't have time to check it out any further. The alarm worked & has 4 sound settings, birds, church bells, ocean waves and rain forest. The sleep timer also worked. I think it's a useful/fun app; hopefully the battery life check will be updated. We forgot to check the sound settings using the Fidelio app. I'll update my review with our findings when we test the sound setting feature/function.

UPDATE (1/12/12): I recently received an IPod 4G. I protected my IPod with the OtterBox Defender Series Hybrid Case for iPod touch 4G (Black/Red). Because the DS7550's dock is spring loaded, I am able to dock my IPod 4G with the case on it. I pull the the dock on the Phillips DS7550 forward. (It's a bit frustrating to dock it with the Otterbox case on, but it can be done).

Also the Fidelio app doesn't seem to be as functional as it was with my daughter's IPod 2G. I can't seem to find any reference to the battery life or the sound setting feature mentioned in the product review.

UPDATE (3/5/12): I'M USING THIS WITH OUR KINDLE FIRE. When I stream Amazon movies to our Fire, I hook this speaker to the Fire. It's great!

Overall, a nice sounding unit but if you have an ear for quality sound, this is a bit underwhelming. I'll explain in the Cons section below.

Fidelio PROS:

+ First thing that struck was how 'tiny' this unit is compared to the sound it gives out. You wonder where is this bass coming from (although the bass itself is a bit on the lower side)

+ Sleek looking

+ Tight construction, metal grille cool looking device

+ Nice sound, not great, not audiophile, but not bad.

+ Used it outside and inside the house.

+ Plays same sound plugged in or not. Other units tend to not when running on battery.

+ Portable has a rechargeable battery.

+ The kickstand is nice and made the unit stand upright well

Fidelio CONS:

The sound is ok, just ok. I wish I could hear a little more treble (high side) and a little tighter bass but given the size of the unit, I can see why it struggles to produce more bass

Battery ran out quite quickly when I was playing for some time without being plugged in didn't run the advertised 8 hours for me

No remote control

No Bluetooth

No AirPlay

The unit along with the hot weather ended up heating up the iPhone 4 pretty quickly and shut the iPhone down with a Temperature warning

All in all, returning it because of the underwhelming sound, the time it took the battery to run out, the lack of a remote, the lack of bluetooth.

The Itouch is a great MP3 player, but has some awful speakers. This product is perfect for a person on the go. It's lightweight, and the sound it produces is fantastic. I couldn't believe the amount of bass that was being produced. It was very impressive.

The only downside I saw was there was no indication how low the batteries or how long they would last on a charge. It would be nice if they added an LED that would flash when the batteries were low so we would know we need to charge the device.

Other then that small complaint, it's completely worth a buy!

This goodie is small in size but performs with big box quality minus the brain blasting power. My goal was an alarm radio with good reception to my favorite stations and easy set alarm for those (dreadful) early wake-ups. It wins a double thumbs up for each count. I was worried about the small size and how the reciever would work, but one night with this radio put me to sleep in short order.

The tuner was capable from bottom to top in both AM & FM.

My only hesitation was the $40 for what looks like a pocket radio. It sounds better than my Nano.

I previously owned an Experia X10 which I was content with as my first smart phone venture but after purchasing the Experia Arc, I can clearly see how flawed the X10 is. I won't go into the X10's problems since this is a review for the Arc. So that being said, will break down the review in categories. Looks, Software and Performance.

LooksOne sexy sleek phone hands down and one of the best looking phones on the market. The phone is super slim and the arc in the back actually adds to the sleekness. The back of the phone looks black but looking closely at it you can see it goes from a dark blue to a dark grey silver tone. But you have to look very close. The screen is beautiful at 4.2 inches and the sides of the phone are a chrome color which makes this phone look very classy and heavy, yet it's not heavy at all and pretty light.

SoftwareA huge flaw of the x10 was the lack of updates and an ancient android operating system. I am happy to say this phone comes with the latest 2.3 gingerbread operating system which includes flash for pc like web surfing, more stability, pinch zoom and the ability to download the latest apps requiring the latest operating system. Sony Ericsson has also perfected their skins and proprietary merged os. The system is much more responsive as well.

PerformanceAs stated before, this phone is stable, smooth and pretty quick. Sony is touting it's display as a display infused with their bravia engine technology which in short is just a gimick in terms of the home screen but does improve the picture in the camera and video departments. I compared the x10 with this and found very little difference in the home screen but the camera function is clearly better on this set and better than other phones I have compared. Still the samsung oled and iphone retina displays are still the best in the business. Even so the camera display comes pretty close to those phones.

On a side note, the recharging on this phone is super fast! about half an hour to an hour and it's fully recharged. 15 minutes and it's and it's 30 percent recharged. The standby time is also really good and impressed with the life of the batter during constant internet use.

I bought this phone unlocked and it only works on AT&T's network but definitely worth the price and piece of mind knowing i'm not held on contract anymore. Wonderful phone and kind of like that this phone isn't offered widely in the US as it's very unique and gets lots of looks. It seems like the whole world has an iphone these days and I feel like I have something most people don't, and I do. :)

Quick Update: As of 11/7/11 my phone still working like a champ. I just wanted to update everyone on a recent update for the phone. The update provides slight improvements such as advanced face book integration, screen capture, Zoom in HD camera 3D capability, new themes, icon pics in created files, better recording sound and speaker volume. The only updates I found any interest in was the screen capture which is a great feature to have and the zoom on HD camera. Otherwise all other updates just okay. The 3D capability sucks, All it does is allow you to take 3D pics in panorama view but in order to view it in 3d you need a 3D capable tv along with the 100 dollar glasses! Either way, it's nice to get some updates as giving it's unlocked status I thought I would'nt get any updates.

The LT15A Xperia Arc (Anzu) is simply amazing, this 1GHz single core processor holds its own against many of the current dual cores out there, even beating the SG SII in some areas. Its construction feels rock solid, and there are plenty of after market cases, accessories and mods on the internet for very cheap.

There is however some bad news, the stock Sony apps and Sony bloatware weigh the handset down immensely. Your apps, the ones you actually want to run, are constantly competing for system resources with the stock Sony apps which are constantly running in the background, needlessly hogging resources and gobbling up precious battery life. The Sony apps for the most part are not removable, and insist on residing in the tiny phone memory as opposed to the massive SD card, making life a constant battle to keep enough room free for daily operations.

Luckily there is also some good news, there is a replacement Android firmware called Cyanogenmod that is offered for free. Cyanogenmod replaces the stock Sony Android system, allowing you total control over the apps and many other previously restricted customization features. The catch is that you must unlock the handset's bootloader, thus voiding the warranty from the manufacturer. If you plan to do this, it is a good idea to wait a few months at least until you're reasonable satisfied you didn't receive a lemon. It is also recommended that you have a moderate level of technical expertise to perform this operation, as if not you may end up rendering your handset inoperable while in the process of voiding your warranty.

I literally hated this handset until I removed the Sony software, the Sony apps were so intrusive, obnoxious and persistent, it made me want to chuck it out the window on more than one occasion. After installing Cyanogenmod, the Arc went from being a mediocre and mildly frustrating smartphone to full fledged superphone. Apps that used to take thirty seconds to open now take ten. There is so much space on the internal handset memory I can load it up with all my most frequently used programs for faster access. The battery lasts many hours longer on standby, and can now sustain heavy internet use all day instead of just half a day as it did before.

To sum it all up, if you're someone who isn't interested in heavy customization and just wants a smartphone that works smoothly out of the box, buy an iPhone or a BB. However if you are someone who is interested in a pocket sized supercomputer and doesn't mind a bit of hassle to get it up and running properly, the Xperia Arc is an excellent choice.

I bought this because I've always been a fan of Ericsson phone. I previously had the Xperia X10a and when it broke (to no fault of the phone) I decided to upgrade to the Arc. This phone is slick and gorgeous to look at and the high-definition screen is crisp and clear. The display is far more responsive than most of the phones I've used, too. As usual, Sony Ericsson's efforts show in their heavily modified version of Gingerbread (and the available Honeycomb update). The music player, video player and camera are greatly improved over the default Android programs stylistically and functionally. The high resolution camera makes this phone better than the stand-alone camera I already had. This phone also includes programs that noticeably boost the sound and image capabilities. Everything else has been aesthetically improved and additional Ericsson created apps turn the phone into a wholly integrated social device. Yet, all of the modifications do not interfere with the capabilities of the phone. You are still free to modify and fiddle with it to your hearts content. Receiving it unlocked ensured I'd be getting the complete functionality of the device (e.g. tethering and compatibility with my provider).

Casio Men's AQF100W-7BV Forester Sports Thermometer Watch

After reading the reviews on here, I was a bit hesitant about buying this watch. I have had other Casio thermometer watches in the past, and was able to calibrate them to the accurate temperature while on my wrist. Despite all the reviews complaining about the inaccuracy of the temp, THIS WATCH IS NO DIFFERENT. All that needs to be done is to get a temp reading with another thermometer, and then program this watch according to the instruction booklet. That's it. It's reading temperature very accurately as I type. Yes, the instruction booklet is complicated (the PDF version from Casio.com is MUCH easier to follow), but it is worth it!

I've had Casios before, and this one is a step down. It is very difficult to set up, especially the analog time. Here's my biggest complaint and biggest warning: If you are looking to buy this watch as an accurate displaying of the temperature, then look for another product. What they only tell you in the fine print after you buy the watch is that the temperature reading is affected by your body temperature. So...if you're planning on actually WEARING the watch (hello??) you won't get an accurate temperature. I'm sitting in a 75 degree room typing this, and the watch says the temperature is 92.4 degrees farenheit. Like I said, a tad disappointing.

I have returned to Casio after using a Timex Expedition electronic compass watch for the last 6 1/2 years. The Timex Expedition's batteries kept dying after only a year even though they were supposed to last three to four years, plus the Expedition kept resetting itself.

If you spend a lot of time outdoors and want to know the temperature, tides, and moon phases, this is the perfect watch. Be warned, though: The instruction booklet is wrong in detailing how to calibrate the temperature sensor. Calibrate the sensor while wearing the watch. Otherwise, your body heat will add almost 20 degrees to the sensor's reading. Right now my watch says it's 70.2 degrees inside. A nearby thermometer says it's 70.9 degrees.

To get the most accurate tidal data, don't rely on using the nearest major city's longitude or lunitidal value. Use Google Earth or another mapping application to get your exact longitude. Then use data provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to determine your locale's precise lunitidal value (http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/faq2.html#22).

Aside from the specific features this watch has, positives include the luminescent analog hands, the Daylight Saving time toggle switch, and the World Time function that enables you to see the current time in major cities around the world. Also, the analog display enables you to see the time when you're using the stopwatch, timer, or tidal calendar.

Negatives include the fact that you have to set the analog hands separately from the digital setting. This means that toggling Daylight Saving time on and off for the digital display has no effect on the analog display. Another negative is the tiny date display and the relatively small digital time display. The time should be larger than the temperature. This is, after all, a watch first and foremost.

I love this watch but it has one major flaw. The bezel is not protected by the case at all. It actually is a dome shape instead of being set into the case like most sport type watches. I got 2 big scratches in it within 2 weeks. As above....the temp does not read correctly unless you take the watch off but I expected that.

Theres a handy function where the back light turns on when you tilt your wrist. Only problem is the backlight only stays on for a second and you cant hold the button in to keep it on longer

The clock feature works well and is easy to read at night. The radio also works well for a little clock radio. I bought this for the memo feature that allows you to record your own message (or surreptitiously alter your wife's message) to serve as your alarm, and that feature is somewhat disappointing. The audio quality is poor, and you might have 10 seconds to record your message. If you only wanted to record something like "get milk", it's fine, but that strikes me as a decidedly lame message and a rather costly way to circumvent the use of not even 2 cents worth of pencil and paper.
