The unit is very easy to use. Most of the navigation of the unit is done via the master control/volume knob via pressing it and then turning to the desired folder and pressing again to select, etc. Anytime you want to get back to the Home screen, you can press the Esc. button-you don't have to wait 30 seconds or so for it to return on its own.
If you want to preset stations, press and hold one of the preset channels for about 3-5 seconds.
Regarding the radio ,you can set this unit to pick up just HD stations, just analog, or both via the Blend option-this will automatically pick up whatever the strongest signal is, whether analog or digital.
If you want to play your IPod via the USB, just plug it in and select USB via the MC [master control]. You can also set the unit to control the IPOD exclusively via the unit itself or via the IPod, or both.
If you want to plug and play through the auxillary cable, select Auxillary via the MC, etc.
The color of the lighted buttons are red. The screen is a simple LCD type, no fancy quality lettering. You can set it to display the clock, station, song names, artist name, track number etc.
Finally, you have a variety of other options in the control of this unit such as song shuffle, pre-programmed equalizer settings, loudness control, sound quality enhancers, etc.
For the price, this unit meets my needs and is very comparable to more expensive units. I think it is a good buy.
Buy Pioneer DEH-33HD CD Receiver with HD Tuner Built-In and iPod/iPhone Control Now
So I purchased Pioneer DEH-33HD b/c of its features and reputation that Pioneer has in a electronics world.My experience happened to be very disappointing.
I had it professionally installed at a nearby Best Buy. The next day I noticed weird rattling noise coming from stereo unit. At first I thought that that was installation issue. Week later I went beck to Best Buy and had them redo the installation. This time I personally made sure that the job was done right and that is no wires or parts that can make noise when a car is running. After reinstallation I was very upset to find that the noise was still there. Then to test where the noise is coming from I took the stereo out and found that the noise was gone. I shook the stereo unit itself and found that there is something loose inside that rattles.
I contacted Pioneer customer support and they send me to local authorized dealer for free repair. It took dealer 2 weeks of working on it to tell me that there is nothing wrong with the unit and that the rattling that I can hear it normal for the stereo. As an example they showed me different pioneer model and demonstrated it rattling noises.
The OUTCOME... it was too late to return it to Amazon. Pioneer's dealer said that everything was fine. I could not live with noisy stereo unit and took it apart myself. I removed CD deck out and installed stereo beck in my car. So now I still can play music via USB, AUX and Radio, but unit is no longer CD capable ;( It is not a big deal for me, but might be for some people. When I took closer look on to the CD deck mechanism I found that Pioneer has loose top ring that accepts CD by design and it was the part that was making the noise.
PROS: great features, sound, price point, ergonomics of the buttons
CONS: faulty CD deck design that will make rattling noise when driving (read the story above)I installed this one quickly and easily. The mounting bracket fit easily in my dashboard. I was replacing an Alpine stereo that was 8 years old but cost $700 when it was new and the sound quality is much much better is the new Pioneer. I like the HD display and the remote is easy to use as well while you are driving. I also bought the iPod cable Pioneer CD-IU50 Usb IpodInterface Cable and use it to play my music and it works great! I also got a cable to hook up my Kindle Monster iCable 800 MP3 Player to Auxiliary Input Cord (3 Feet) and using the text to speech option on the Kindle it will play over my car stereo. You could also hook up a mp3 player in the same jack. I like the fact that I can leave both cables plugged into the front of the stereo and it will automatically play the correct device when I plug it in and I don't have to unplug the other cable. Aux1 is my iPod and Aux2 is my Kindle. I haven't used the CD player because I don't carry CDs anymore but I'm sure it works just fine. I bought this radio with the iPod and Kindle in mind and I am very happy with my purchase.

I installed this radio in my 09 Nissan Titan a few days ago, and I am more than satisfied. Still learning all the features, because there are so many. This is my first Pioneer, and probably not my last. I am a big Sony fan, but I couldn't find the equivalent (CDX-GT700HD) in the same discounted price range. The amount of detailed sound adjustments surprised me. From the preamp gain, and the sub gain, to the low pass hz cut off options, I am really impressed. The USB functioning is awesome as well; I made some genre folders (rock, rap, pop, etc.) on a generic thumb drive, and populated them with MP3's and WMA's. The head unit quickly read them, then let me use the up and down arrows to move from folder to folder, while the left and right arrows let me move from song to song within each folder. And if the song has that digital sound to it, you can press the ASR button and it filters it out. Considering I bought this for $89, and any other radio that is HD ready will cost you an addditional $90-100 for the HD receiver, how could you ever go wrong? YOU CAN'T! ***GREAT PRODUCT***
