Sharp SD-AT1000 600 Watt Home Theater Audio System

Sharp SD-AT1000 600 Watt Home Theater Audio System
  • Unified, 6-speaker system for seamless, full-bodied sound, all the way around; color-coded speaker terminals simplify setup
  • Digital amplifier with ultra-high-speed 2.8 MHz (64 fs) sampling brings audiophile accuracy to the home-theater experience
  • 40 watts per channel x 6 (from 20 to 20,000 Hz, with 2 percent THD)
  • Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II multichannel sound processing for immersive surround sound
  • Surround receiver: 17 x 3 x 12 inches; satellites: 4 x 8 x 5 inches; subwoofer: 7 x 14 x 15 inches (all W x H x D)

the sharp sd-at1000 is by far one of the best home theater out there for its price(i got mine for 199). it has 600 watts or total power and can decode everything, dts, dolby digital, pro logic and pro logic 2. its also utilizes sharp's 1 bit technology which converts analog signals into digital, while its ultra-high speed sampling rate captures detailed, high frequency sounds that could never before be experienced. it also has 2 digital and 3 line inputs and a nice design. this system also doubbles as a am/fm radio with magnetically shielded front speakers. my only complaint is it does not have a dvd play but for the price i really wasn't expecting one. later models such as the sd-at 3000 and 4000 dv do contain dvd players but for a much higher price. i'd recommend this system to anyone, just buy a good dvd player and you're good to go.

I simply do not believe to my ears! This sound quality should be on triple price. Or more. :-) This Sharp system is crazily out of category. All the others I tried before on this price level are far far not up to this experiment.

May be I look too enthusiastic. But that's the reason of writing here. (Normally I don't.)

I bought it in Europe. Don't ask me the price, but I let you know that the European price level for these things are MUCH higher than the USA one. But it doesn't matter from the aspect of price ratios.

I love this world: With the technological advance things get parallel better and cheaper.

All of the advertised features work but I'm disappointed in a few things;

1) It's been in my car for about a month now and I have had to reset (there is a reset button to re-initailize the radio which removes all settings) it 3 times now. I'm hopeful I wouldn't have to keep doing this. If I do, I will be returning it.

2) The tuning knob is very shallow and hard to operate.

3) It struggles to play CD's that are recorded in MP3.... takes a very long time to read and somethings it just gets lost and you have to switch modes and try again.

Juice Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries, Size AAA, 4-Count Packages (Pack of 3)

Juice Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries, Size AAA, 4-Count PackagesFirst of all, those Juice Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries cannot be recharged using ordinary NiMH chargers. You need to get a charger specially designed for rechargeable alkaline cells, or one that can handle multiple battery chemistries (such as the Juice Multi-Battery Charger or Rayovac Universal Battery Charger).

The Juice Rechargeable Alkaline Manganese (RAM) cells are reincarnations of the Rayovac 'Renewal' rechargeable alkaline cells. Rayovac marketed the Renewal batteries and charger system about 10-15 years ago. But due to various limitations (as explained later) it turned out a big failure, and Rayovac consequentially discontinued the whole Renewal product line.

On first glance, the concept of rechargeable alkaline cell sounds great, since it combines advantages from both ordinary alkaline cell (long shelf life, 1.5V terminal voltage) and rechargeable cell (multi-use). Unfortunately, it also inherited the biggest limitation of alkaline cell: high internal resistance. This makes it very inefficient when used in high-drain appliances such as digital camera or flash light. So it is only suitable for low-drain appliances such as wireless mouse, remote control, or smoke detector.

Another serious limitation is energy density. The manufacturer claims that a new Juice AAA RAM cell has capacity of 800mAh (tested with discharge current of 50mA down to 0.8V at 22 degree C). This is 33% lower than the capacity of Duracell alkaline AAA cell (1200mAh under identical test conditions). Worse yet, capacity of Juice RAM cell drops further with each deep-discharge cycle. After just 5-6 charge/discharge cycles, its remaining capacity drops by another 30%. A typical NiMH cell can go through about 500 deep-discharge cycles before it capacity drops to 80% of original value. (This is under controlled test conditions, so in real life your mileage may vary)

The product description claims that Juice RAM cell can be recharged 'up to 100 times'. But this is completely misleading, because it can only be achieved if you shallow-discharge (discharge no more than 25% of capacity) the cell every time. That means you have to remove the cell and recharge it very frequently, before the low-battery indicator ever comes up.

In my opinion, it is just not worth the trouble to 'baby-sit' those rechargeable alkaline cells, especially since you can easily buy low-self-discharge NiMH cells (such as Sanyo Eneloop or Rayovac Hybrid) instead.

[Update on Oct 24, 2010]

I have eight of those Juice Rechargeable alkaline AA cells stored in a box after testing. After about one year of storage, three of those cells leaked electrolyte badly through the negative terminals. Luckily they were not being used in appliances.

These batteries were great for the first year, but started leaking there after. I got about 30 uses before they started leaking, ruining both the charger and my receiver remote. Go with something else, rechargeable alkaline seem like a great concept, these are just poor quality. Not much out there on amazon on rechargeable alkaline, go with NIMH from Sanyo or Rayovac. These alkaline didn't hold charge any longer than either of these, and both have gotten more uses (50+) with no issues.

I got the AA Juice rechargeable alkaline batteries for the reciever and transmitter of my remote control buggy.. So far they've been great!! I've only put them through 4 or 5 recharge cycles, so I cant comment on how many charge cycles they'll take, but I can say that Im very pleased with them so far!

PHILIPS CD PLAYER ALARM CLOCK AND RADIO AJ3935

PHILIPS CD PLAYER ALARM CLOCK AND RADIO AJ3935This alarm-clock is so good that this is the 2nd time I am going to buy it. First one cracked during our last moving and, after searching carefully for latest models, no one have all the great functionalities and quality of sound that this one does: extremely good surround sound, ability to select the track of your preference for being waked up, progressive volume until you get waked up (gentle wake-up), and, specially, a different weekends alarm set-up, because you definitely don't want to be waked up on the best day of the week, or wanna be at a different time of the day... among many other great features. I am afraid this piece of gold is discontinued without a true worthy substitute, improving its actual capabilities. The only thing that's really lacking is mp3 player and ipod connection, that's all, but has all-in-one all capabilities that other alarm-clock have but no one offers in a single model. It's design is fashionable and it's so simple to use that you don't even need to read the manual.

Not many electronic products made these days will still be working in 2022, but I bet this alarm will. I bought this alarm clock in 1999!! It has survived eight moves, multiple girlfriends and a flood. I still use it to this day. It has never failed once. I only use it as a an alarm, so I can't really comment on the "sound" of it playing music or radio. The only complaint from the perspective of today would be it's size. It takes up like half of my nightstand. You can adjust the green glow from the screen (high, medium, low), and even set any track on a CD to wake you up (starts at low volume and slowly increases in volume). Just a great, well made product.

The favorite part for me is that I have every single button memorized, with muscle memory, so I can set or change any function by memorization after just waking up, eyes closed and fully groggy. Of course, if you want that aspect, you'll need to spend the next 11 years with it.

iLive iS809B 30-Pin iPod Speaker Dock

iLive iS809B 30-Pin iPod Speaker Dock
  • Compatibility: iPod mini; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G; iPod classic 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod touch 1G, 2G
  • Complete wireless system for iPod features two speakers with 20-foot line-of-sight (90-foot indoor) range
  • Weather resistant speakers feature independent volume, stereo/mono settings; pair up to 20 speakers
  • Auxiliary input for external audio devices such as MP3 or CD players
  • Full-featured, long-range remote control included

The speaker set as a whole works very well once you get it up and running. The set I purchased comes with 4 speakers and one dock. I found that 2 of my speakers have white LED indicator lights while the other 2 speakers have blue LED indicator lights, which is a bit odd. In any case, I found the speakers difficult to pair, for those with trouble try these steps:

1. Have all speakers and dock near each other within arms reach.

2. Plug all speakers and dock into an outlet and turn them on, dock and speakers will blink slowly.

3. Turn the speaker volumes to medium-low, when they come out of the box they are at max volume and will make a very loud beep when it tries pairing.

Alright, this is when coordination is key:

Each speaker has a pairing button, when you hold the pairing button down for 3 seconds, the speaker will make a beeping tone once every half-second while it searches for the dock, it will attempt to pair for about 10 seconds. The dock has a pairing button on it's left side. When you hold the pairing button down for 3 seconds, the status light will blink rapidly as it searches for the speakers for 10 seconds. You can see how this requires some coordination...

4. Using one hand on a pair of speakers, press and hold the pairing button on the speakers to initiate pairing (beeping sounds start).

5. Repeat step 4 on another pair of speakers.

6. Quickly press and hold the pairing button on the dock.

7. If you are able to do this fast enough, all 4 speakers will make a long sustained tone indicating that they have been paired.

8. Dock your ipod and give it a whirl, if you find that one or more speaker(s) is not outputting sound, you did not go through the steps fast enough... Repeat steps 4-7 again but FASTER!

I found that the speakers and docks, once paired, will not lose pairing (THANK GOODNESS!) even if you unplug them for an extended period of time, although the clock on the dock will reset unless you install 2 AAA's in the dock (not included).

Sound quality wise, I tried moving the speakers around my 1 story house and found that I got clear reception everywhere I went. The speakers do not produce the best sound in the world, they definitely do not measure up to my Klipsch speakers, but they sound decent once I up the treble to 5 and the bass to 3. Also, you can leave the speakers on and turn off the dock, they will not make any static sounds like many 900Hz wireless speakers do, they go into standby instead. Turning on the dock causes the speakers to spring into action.

The remote also appears to not use IR but will work wirelessly. You do not need to point the remote at the dock for it to work. In fact, I found that I could walk clear to the other side of my house and still be able to control the dock.

I'm overall very happy with this set of speakers. Pairing was a pain, but once I got it up and running they work decently, the range and ability for the remote to work anywhere was a definite plus.

Update: Discovered that when you play soft sounding music, the speakers will go into standby within 10 seconds. When the music gets louder, the speakers re-engage. This behavior is rather annoying, I wished that they would stay engaged while the base station is on.

Update 2-10-11: Speakers are still going strong. To resolve the issue of the speakers going into standby with soft music, I turned up the volume on the base station and turned down the volume on the individual speakers (end result of keeping the same output volume). It seems the speakers need a certain threshold of input sound or else they will go into standby.

Also, I discovered that the docking station will interfere with wireless networks, which makes sense as most wireless networks and these speakers operate on the 2.4Ghz frequency. When I place the dock near a computer that is using the wireless network, the computer will completely lose its connection until the dock is turned off.

I am still happy with these speakers, they have been on for the last 2 years, never turned off. I have since moved to a larger two story home, still works like a charm.

I purchased the set and pairing was really easy. It worked for 30 minutes and the dock died (no power, no nothing). I returned it and purchased another set. The second set worked for 45 minutes and the dock died. The sound was pretty decent and had a good coverage for the wireless speakers only if they got the dock to work it would be useful. This product is horrible! What I waste of time to pair the speakers and have something working for a few minutes.

This system is a great idea that is very poorly executed.

The instructions for pairing the base station with the speakers do not work. Both the instruction in the box and posted on are wrong (thank you ichinban for posting usable instructions). Once the base station was paired with the speakers the system worked well for 5 hours. The speaker had decent sound and good range from the base station. Then the base station display stopped working and soon there after it would not transmit to the speakers. I tried several times to contact ilive customer service by phone (which was a dead end game of selecting different numbers) and received no response from several emails.

I will never buy another ilive product and continue to advise others against doing so because they either don't know their own system well enough to write usable instructions or they just don't care, their products are poorly manufactured and they have zero customer service/support.

This system is horrendous. It played beautifully for 3 hours, every speaker working. Then, suddenly, the base unit died and was unresponsive. DPI (the maker of the system) sent me a replacement base. I paired the speakers to the new base, and now, two speakers sounded horrible and scratchy and one would no longer link with the base unit. Again, I called DPI and told them two speakers were scratchy. They said they'd send two more, but only sent one. The one replacement was also scratchy and horrible sounding, so I am giving up and will be returning this system to where I purchased it. Also, the idea that this could be indoor/ outdoor is laughable, as the speakers appeared sensitive to TOUCH, and WALKING IN FRONT OF THEM!! DPI needs to go back to the drawing board.

Bought this unit with 2 speakers about 3 months ago and I loved it. The system has great sound and even though it's tough sometimes to "pair" the speakers to the base station, I didn't mind.

A few weeks ago the base station crapped out and the power was flickering on and off. I called iLive and they would not repair the basestation because it had been more than 90 days since I purchased it.

Furthermore, the representative told me, "WE HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF THESE PRODUCTS"!!!

So steer clear of this item.

La Crosse Technology WS-8115U-S Digital Wall Clock with Indoor and Outdoor Temperature

La Crosse Technology WS-8115U-S Digital Wall Clock with Indoor and Outdoor TemperatureI've had a lot of Digital clocks from LaCrosse Technology and have always been happy with them. This model like the others did what it is supposed to do for 3 months when the interior temp stopped working. First time I have ever needed customer support from LaCrosse Technology prior to this problem. It turns out that they have NO customer service. I used their website and wrote them. It took them over a week to reply with a list of trouble shooting items. I went through the list and wrote bak to them. That was 2 weeks ago and still no reply. What good is a warranty if the company does not stand behind their product????

I will never buy another product from LaCrosse Technology

Pros: Attractive display, very large numbers on clock, shows the info I wanted and nothing else.

Cons: Remote sensor doesn't work reliably even from short distances through frame construction (less than 15 feet), reset process is much more cumbersome than other brands I have used.

Don't buy this if you want a remote sensor that works reliably.

Ordered this because I wanted to be able to monitor outdoor temps where I live. I often check things through online weather servers but those do not tell me what the temperature is at my home. Setting it is easy as long as you read the instructions. Other reviewers on other models of this type of product remark on that, but as long as you follow the directions you're fine. Mounting the outdoor receiver was a little tricky, but only because I live in a place with no wood or masonry on the outside. I finally found a space on my porch out of the weather to mount it. I used some industrial strength velcro I purchased from a third party so I can take it down easily. We'll see how it holds up to 50 below weather.

Took a night to adjust to the radio time. Once I figured out how to set the time zone, its accurate. (You have to set the date yourself. No big deal.)

Temperature reads within three degrees of what my computer tells me. I'm ok with that. Probably the heat of the house making the difference. The only thing is it takes a little while for it to read changes in the temp. When I first put it outside it took about an hr for it to adjust to the actual temperature. I thought that a little odd.

Cosmetically, this is attractive. You know that you're getting something thats going to be modern looking. I just wish that the face could be seen from more angles, but again, its what I expected. Right now I am actually using it on a counter instead of mounted to a wall. It has little flip out tabs for doing so (they are pretty flimsy though.) Also there are settings on the back for snooze and an alarm but i think these are like a vestigial tail, poorly located and near inaccesible if you were actually going to use this for an alarm clock.

I purchased this clock because I have 2 other clocks (one is with all the weather sensors / information) from La Crosse Technology and they worked great. In this purchase of WS-8115U-T, I received a defective unit and my experience trying to get it fixed differed greatly between Amazon.com and La Crosse. Amazon.com got an A+ and La Crosse got a D.

This clock broke within 1.5 month of the purchase where the top line / segment of the digit display disappeared "O" displayed like a "U". I changed batteries and tried to reset it without success in fixing the problem. Because it exceeded Amazon's return period, I contacted La Crosse. First, I had to send them a USPS mail because I could not find an email address in their website (very difficult to navigate). Then, the La Crosse customer service sent me a letter told me the obvious about changing the batteries. Lastly, they gave me a 2 pages of instructions on returning the clock a real complicate and hassle process with a lot of disclaimers from them protecting themselves.

A bit discourage about following these instructions like "put a protective cover on the screen" and what they don't responsible for, I contacted Amazon.com via email... almost within 24 hours, Amazon.com responded with an "exception" ruling (extended the return period) and automatically sent me a replacement unit and a label for return. My replacement clock arrived within few days and the replacement worked fine. Talking about exceeding my expectation, Amazon.com did just that. I know that Amazon will charge me again if I don't return the old one but they made the whole replacement process SO SIMPLE and EFFORTLESS.

I always think that a seller is best judged how they respond to you when you need them... In this case, Amazon.com is a keeper and La Crosse showed its lack of understanding on customer servicing and a loser. Buy from Amazon and don't buy La Crosse.

I purchased two of these clocks to replace existing units which were old and had a good lifespan but finally failed. One of the new clocks works perfectly. It's still running on its original batteries and keeps time perfectly. The temperature sensors are also very accurate. The other clock has had issues since day one. It's eaten through multiple brands of batteries (Duracell, Energizer, Kirkland, etc.) and multiple types. I have been extremely frustrated and disappointed with LaCrosse Technologies customer support. Despite giving them these details, they continue to insist on receiving more and more information and will not issue an RMA number without elaborate steps of taking multiple battery voltage meter readings, etc. despite being well within the warranty period. This appears to be a blatant attempt to absolve them from having to handle the warranty claim. If the company stood behind it's products, I would fully recommend their products since I have been a satisfied customer for many years and many models of their products. In fact, I truly like their products and have always been a big fan of the quality they produce. I can not however recommend purchasing their products at this time knowing that they will not stand behind what they sell when it doesn't work as intended.

What a great little unit this has turned out to be. It is not a small or as light weight as I was hoping but what it lacks there it makes up for in function. This radio cab be used with the hand crank, alkaline batteries, rechargeable batteries (included), built in solar charger, or plugged in via USB. Lots and lots of power options. I have tried the radio in all power modes and it works great. Takes about 2 hours to charge the built in batteries on the USB and a little less than 10 hours in the direct fall sunlight here in Salt Lake City, Utah. About a minute on the hand crank gave me about 7 or 8 minutes of radio life. To top it all off there is a nifty little LED flashlight built in as well. Digital tuner works well and I can pick up AM and FM signals easily inside a concrete building with few windows and the sound quality is better than I hoped for out of little speakers. The unit can be used to charge a phone or other device via USB. I haven't tried this yet but I would guess it takes a bit of cranking to charge a phone! There is also an aux input and a headphone jack. It has turned out to be a solid unit that has taken a month's worth of jostling in my 72 hour kit that rides in the trunk of my car every day. It feel substantial and like it will take some abuse. The only things I can fault this unit on is that it is not completely waterproof (not a big deal to me, but to some), it is a bit larger and heavier than I had hoped and I would have liked to have seen some sort of protective cover over the solar cells rather than just the clear plastic. So other than taking up a bit more room than I would have liked this is a great unit!

Radios = great.

Crank = OK.

Solar charge = nifty but not efficient.

Flashlight = better than nothing but relatively useless.

iPhone/iPad charger = can't.

I cranked for almost 10 min at the recommended 2+ revolutions per second (which will give you blisters fairly easily. I'd recommend wearing a glove when cranking). The DYN rechargeable battery filled to "full" (3-bars full) and plugged in my iPhone 5. Nothing. I tried iPad and I get a "not charging" message. Now the DYN battery shows 1 of 3 bars charged. So, I doubt after 10 min of serious cranking you can get enough charge to do more than get the display to unhibernate and the familiar plugged into USB audio chirp. But charging an Apple device. DOES NOT work! At least not after 10 sweat inducing minutes of frantic cranking. I'll try 10 hrs of solar charging but I have very little optimism.

Still, it's a very handy self powered radio and that alone is worth the price. Just don't for it to charge your phone or other USB devices. I will only update my rating if I find *any* success charging Apple products as they advertised.

I'm still happy I bought one for the radio but as a device charger YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

Want Eton FRX3 Hand Turbine NOAA AM/FM Weather Alert Radio with Smartphone Charger - Red (NFRX3WXR) Discount?

I received the FRX3 as a 2012 Christmas gift. Mine is the American Red Cross edition in red and black, which other than a small Red Cross logo is apparently the same as the other versions of the radio.

The radio works as advertised: it picks up AM/FM/WX band broadcasts, the hand-crank dynamo does indeed power the radio, the blinking red light does indeed blink, and it has an emergency alert capability. For most people, I suspect, that completely fulfills their initial desires in an emergency-band radio.

The downside, however, is a significant one, and you may only realize the unit has this downside if you've owned an emergency alert WX radio in the past: the alert function is not well designed.

First of all, the emergency alert capability is not covered in the small manual that ships with the radio. I had to email customer service for help, which resulted in a reasonably prompt response from a knowledgeable individual. Can't fault them there. But for something that is sold as an emergency alert radio, I was really surprised to see there was no coverage in the manual of this functionality whatsoever.

You see, it's supposed to work like this: if the local NOAA weather office detects severe weather moving into your area, they broadcast a special alert tone (really, a series of computer-modulated tones) designed to "wake up" any alert-capable radio receivers running within their broadcast area. Typically, such receivers, upon receipt of this signal, sound a loud siren, after which the radio automatically switches on. Anyone in the room with the radio can then hear the specifics of the emergency, such as a severe storm warning, flood warning, civil emergency (think terrorism), etc., and take the appropriate action.

Design Problem #1: The Eton FRX3 will only monitor the airwaves for emergency alerts if you set it to do so, which is usually something done by default by other emergency alert radios. If you remember to leave the radio powered on and in Alert mode, which is signified on the display by a flashing "Alert" icon, it will indeed turn on when an alert is sent out, BUT only if you remember to set it to do so. With NO explanation for how this works in the accompanying manual, I suspect many purchasers will wonder why a tornado just blew through their neighborhood and their emergency radio never warned them.

Design Problem #2: The Eton FRX3 does not have the warning siren. On other radios, this warning siren is approximately at least as loud as a smoke detector's siren. It gets your attention, even if the radio is on the top floor and you happen to be in the basement. The volume level of the FRX3 is not sufficient to warn someone from another room in the house. So you may have to have more than one FRX3 if you plan to use it to alert your family when you are sleeping (located in the bedroom) or during the daytime (in the living area of your home.)

Design Problem #3: The Eton FRX3 isn't designed with another feature called S.A.M.E. functionality that NOAA made available years ago.

S.A.M.E. functionality is a technical way to address one of the limitations of NOAA radio broadcasts: the coverage area of the broadcast is frequently larger than the area that any one particular alert might apply to. For example, NOAA's local station here in SE Michigan covers approximately 5 counties -a huge geographical area. But a thunderstorm warning might only apply to one of those counties. So when the special alert tone I mentioned earlier is broadcast, it not only contains a wake-up message for receivers in the broadcast area; it also includes a special code, called a FIPS code, assigned by the U.S. Federal Government, that indicates what specific area in the greater broadcast area is affected by the warning.

If your emergency alert radio is S.A.M.E. enabled, which the FRX3 is not, it will only "alert" -turn on -if the FIPS code embedded in the broadcast matches the FIPS code you program into your receiver when it is new. Otherwise, the default mode of operation is to alert on ALL emergency broadcasts. The lack of this capability means that my FRX3 radio will alert on every emergency broadcast in a five-county area, instead of ones targeted to my specific area. This is a serious issue, because the user will quickly learn that a lot of the time the radio "alerts", it is not for a warning that affects his area. When the alert eventually IS effective for his area, he may inadvertently disregard a potentially life-threatening emergency warning. Even worse, sometimes these warnings go out in the middle of the night. In my area, we are warned frequently in the springtime about impending floods. There are a LOT of rivers in any five county area of Michigan that can flood in the springtime. Being awakened at 3AM for a potential flood that's happening 50 miles away is worse than not useful, it will cause you to turn off the emergency alert monitoring, which of course, is counter-productive to the goal of being alerted when the emergency actually does come to your specific area. Like I said, NOAA has had this discretionary alert capability for years now -maybe even more than a decade. Emergency Alert radios without this functionality are obsolete.

Design Problem #4: Another problem with this radio is related to the alert functionality: being that the radio receiver must be powered up to receive the broadcasts (although the radio speaker is silent when in Alert monitoring mode), there is a continuous battery drain associated with being in the alert monitoring mode unless you have the radio connected to external power. Unfortunately, the radio does not ship with a 120V AC adapter, just a USB charging cord. So in order to keep your radio powered up for alert mode, you must either a.) purchase an external USB power supply for about $10, b.) keep your radio connected via the (very short!) supplied USB cord to a computer that remains powered on at all times, c.) keep a supply of AAA alkaline batteries on hand and change them every 15-18 hours, or d.) recharge the built-in NiMH batteries roughly once a day using either the USB cord, the dynamo, or the solar panel.

I was pretty surprised when my new FRX3 ate a set of brand new Duracells within a day of leaving it in Alert mode. Fortunately, the display includes a battery strength indicator, but the current drain on AAA batteries is unacceptable unless you're in a temporary power outage (i.e. less than one day.)

So to conclude: this is a decent radio for receiving AM/FM/WX band broadcasts. If you need a radio which will work for you in a power outage, the price is right, and the twin recharging capabilities (dynamo or solar cell) will come in very handy. The L.E.D. flashing red beacon lamp is useless, and the white L.E.D. flashlight capability is not particularly strong, but may be useful. Being able to charge a cellphone using the radio is an attractive bonus. But if you're looking for a true Emergency Alert radio, this should not be your primary radio. It should be a back-up unit, and you should select another radio better designed for the emergency alert function.

We bought this unit hoping to be able to charge an iphone 4 and a droid 4 during a power outage. Our tests showed that after completely charging the unit's rechargeable battery via usb connection to a computer, dump charging the droid 4 recharged the phone only 10%. That's better than a dead phone. As the droid 4 shows charge in 10% increments it may have been more. We'll try it with the iphone and report back. The dump charge depleted the radio's battery in under 5 minutes.

As for recharging a phone using the crank, with the iphone 4, 3 minutes of cranking produced a 1% charge, so realistically you're not going to completely recharge your iphone 4 using the crank but you can generate enough power to make essential calls. Again the droid 4 shows its charge in 10% increments so we assume we would have to crank for 30 minutes to show an increase of 10%, if we can assume charging time is the same for the two phones. If you're on your own it may be a challenge to make calls during recharging using the crank put it on speaker maybe after you've generated enough power to initiate a call?

Unlike most other reviews here we weren't too concerned about the radio though brief testing seemed to show it works well.

For the price then we are satisfied that we will be able to make emergency calls though we won't be cranking this thing for 5 hours trying to reach a 100% charge. If you were under the impression that this device would do that easily then sorry to dash your hopes. There are battery packs made expressly for this purpose that will give you 2-3 100% recharges, such as the New Trent IMP70DNew Trent iCurve IMP70D 7000mAh External Battery Pack and Charger for "The new iPad" the 3rd Gen ipad, iPad2, iPhone 5 4S 4 3Gs 3G, iPod Touch (1G to 5G), Android (Samsung Galaxy Note S S2, HTC Sensation EVO Thunderbolt, LG Optimus V), Blackberry (Bold ....

Update: I didn't want to mislead anyone so must report after further trials with charging the droid 4: with droid at only 5% battery, dumped charge and didn't even make a dent no difference! So for now I'd have to say that it doesn't charge the D4 at all by any method. Previously I thought it produced a 10% charge, but I must have been mistaken. Will try again. If anyone knows how to make it work let me know.

H Mini Boombox for Ipod Black

H Mini Boombox for Ipod BlackThe "H Mini Boombox for Ipod," for its size and cost, offers a decent sound and volume. However, I will not buy it again.

Pro

* It is light, easy to carry, and small enough to tuck away when not in use.

* Mine is used primarily on my deck, and at my treadmill, where more volume would not be helpful.

* East to adjust volume, choose songs, change modes.

* Sleek design looks great.

Con

* The device does not have a stable bottom, and can roll. The bottom is flat, but sits only on two short, thin strips of plastic. This instability means that the slightest bump can knock it down off a shelf or table.

* The iPod dock does not lock in well, leaving the iPod wobbly. Added to the device's instability, this can result in the iPod falling out of the socket and damaging the connecting pins.

I was looking for a cheap way to charge my older iPod and amplify it at the same time so I could dock it and use it as a daily alarm clock to wake up for class and a radio to listen to while I study. The Homedics HMDX-SBOXBK mini boombox is the cheapest solution I could find at the time. In retrospect, I don't know why I didn't just plug the iPod into the wall and run it through a couple mini speakers... At any rate,

PROS:

Plenty loud for my tiny studio apartment.

Has a wall plug and can run on batteries, so it has a battery backup for my alarm clock.

Remote control (for better or worse) lets me silence my alarm clock from my bed.

Not that expensive.

CONS:

(and these almost make it more trouble that its worth)

Not really that cheap.

Has a basically rounded bottom, so any kind of jarring makes it roll off whatever it is sitting on and land on the floor, potentially destroying your iPod (and without the iPod, the boombox is useless). There are ways to prevent this, but it is a major design flaw of the item.

My biggest problem with it is that when I undock my iPod and then redock it, it automatically begins playing from my Music folder, no matter what, at whatever volume. The auto-play and constant need to readjust the volume made me stop using it as a radio and makes me dread using it as an alarm clock.

Have had this stereo for a couple weeks now & am fairly happy with it. Though I'm no prof. audiofile, I think the sound quality is great. I love the USB option & it seems to work perfectly so far, as does the radio & CD player(no skips so far). There don't seem to be very many stereos out there that boast this USB port feature & I don't know why not. I think it's a lot handier than having to burn MP3 cd's(which this model will play also). The only drawbacks that I can see are not being able to remove the face plate when the car key isn't in the on or ACC position(since the display is motorized), the preset buttons aren't marked very visibly & the silver buttons around the volume knob aren't lighted at all which makes it a little hard to navigate a CD or the USB drive or change radio stations @ night. For under $100 I think this stereo is a great value & would recommend it.

I've only had this player for a week now, so forgive me if I have yet to detect any problems.

First of all, unlike other folks out there, I've not experience any cd skipping while driving or parked. I've also been able to get my U3 memory stick to play music with it. Interestingly enough I plugged my Ipod nano into it(was curious) and was able to play BBC podcast 'Digital Planet' and some other tech shows on it. I was pleasantly surprised about that one. I did not check deep into navigating the Ipod via the radio to see how easy that was.

As for the other 'features' I haven't really messed with them much either, because I was just looking for a basic radio cd player but the usb feature caught my attention. Figured I could hold more music on a 2gig stick than carrying aroung multiple cds in the car or having to bother buying any cd changer.

So I'm happy with it and I hope this review was helpful to somebody......or yeah make sure your stick is in a FAT32 format. Both usb memory sticks I tried were configured that way.

Ok six months later review is as follows: USB no longer works and had to open the set to retrieve a cd. Apparently one of the spindles broke and it was not allowing me to eject, while at the same time forcing me to reset the radio to have it work. Highly annoyed at that (broken CD spindle)since I rearly used the cd. I definatelty wouldn't recommend this product again. Well, unless it was for your mother inlaw or something.LOL

Got this unit because this was the one of the few with an USB port. I figured with the convenience of USB flash memory it might just be the best way to store, transport and play music than any other digital media out there. The USB port works as specified provided it is formatted as FAT and not as NTFS. However the type of formatting is not specified in the manual.

Secondly, the AM/FM tuner does not resolve frequencies toward the start of the FM frequency band(~87-90MHz) in both Local/DX modes.

Pros:

USB port(for USB flash drives formatted as FAT).

Has dual channel line in/line out and S-audio ports though it is seldom used.

Easy install.

Cons:

Mediocre sound quality.

Dim display hardly visible in daylight.

Gave the unit 1 star because zero is not an option, wish I would have read the reviews before buying. Looks pretty but it is junk. Will not read all MP3 formats, but you don't know that until you read the owner's manual and it TELLS you it won't. My sandisc 4gb unit plugs and plays in everything but this unit. The motorized face is cool, but it's so stupid because it automatically retracts when you remove the faceplate, meaning you have to "clip" (cram) the face on every time you want to use it again (that's in the owner's manual too). My unit immediately gave me CD player problems even after resetting the system numerous times, using numerous discs that played in numerous computers around my house. Save your money and don't buy this, seems like in less than 6 months every single person has had problems with this. The only effective thing it will do is AM/FM.

Did I tell you you not only have to pay the return shipping, included with your unit you must send PYLE a 15 dollar check for return freight to fix/replace your 60 dollar player?

Save 62% Off

The unit never worked out of the box... MP3 files played from CD or USB flash drives skipped continually. Pyle replaced the unit with another identical unit with the same identical problem. Pile then replaced the unit with another similar model. This unit also skips MP3s when played from CD. The USB works marginally better, but still encounters issues.

Do yourself a favor, be kind to your ears and your wallet... DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM PYLE AUDIO!!!

I own three Grace Internet Radios, this Innovator X the latest addition to my family. I'm generally very pleased overall with the Innovator X. For a mono speaker table radio it produces a satisfying sound and plays moderately loud. Is it audiophile quality? Well no, but what is at this price point? It sounds quite nice and has a reasonably solid low end that produces enough bass to give a nicely balanced sound. Compared to other table radios I've heard over the years, internet radio or not, I'd say it compares rather favorably with anything else I've heard. It does have bass and treble controls in the settings menu which allows some tweaking of the sound profile to better meet your taste.

For me, setup was without issue. I have the Innovator X in my living room. The router in my home is upstairs in an office about 25 feet away as the Cockatiel flies. There is actually a "WiFi Strength" indicator in the Settings of the radio and as I write my review it is indicating 73% but is actually bouncing all over the place ranging from 60% to 100%. Nobody is in the house except for me and I"m not moving... well my fingers are moving on the keyboard but that's about it. I do not know why there is such fluctuation in the signal. It is not dropping or continually buffering the connection though and that's what counts.

Once I plugged in the radio for the first time it locacted several WiFi signals. I chose my SSID and then entered my passphrase for my network. The method used to enter the passphrase as well as any other input such as search phrases, is to twist the rotary dial to the letter or number you need, then push the same dial to select and "enter" it. It's tedious but easy to do. In a minute or so, the Innovator X connected to my network and I was taken to the main menu.

I won't go into excruciating detail about every menu choice and option but will address a few things of importance.

The Innovator X has a chunky, old school LED display. When text, such as Song Title, is scrolling across the display it is somewhat difficult to read since the letters sort of flash on and off as they change position. I would prefer a display more current with the state of the art. On the plus side, it is possible to independently set the display backlight brightness for each of it's three modes; active, inactive and standby. Active mode is when you are actually doing something with the radio involving the dials or buttons. Inactive is when you are listening to the radio but not actively doing anything with the controls. Standby is when the radio is "off". It's really nice to be able to adjust the backlight levels especially if you are using this in a bedroom and would prefer little or no light coming from the display during sleep.

The radio has alarms and a sleep timer. Regarding alarms, there is the option to set up to 5 alarms. Each alarm can be one time only or repeating. You have the option to set a buzzer as the alarm, a station or even something hooked up to the auxiliary jack. You also have the ability to set a unique volume level for each alarm. Having an indication on the display during radio listening, that an alarm is set, would be helpful, unfortunately the display does not have such an indication during radio listening. Only when the radio is in standby mode does the radio indicate that an alarm has been set.

If you have a Pandora account the radio can access your stations on Pandora once you register your radio with an account on the Grace Radio website. There is a "Register" setting in the radio menu that provides you with a key that you enter on the Grace website to connect your Pandora account to the radio. It works well and you can then use the remote to give thumbs up and thumbs down ratings to songs just as are accustomed to doing.

The sound of the Innovator X is quite nice. The "wood" cabinet lends a warmth to the sound that is lacking in plastic cases. The case is actually a particle board rather than a solid wood but in any case, it does add a reassuring heft to the radio and lends to the nice sound produced by the mono speaker.

You have the ability to set 10 presets for stations. Setting a preset is as simple as holding the appropriate preset button a few seconds while the station you want to set is playing.

I've very pleased with this radio. I have experienced some "initializing network" connection issues as others have reported. Some of those issues may have been due to the problem that Grace Digital has acknowledged and presumably fixed. But apparently there remain some issues. In my home network with a multitude of other connected devices of various types, the Grace radio seems to be the only one that has these issues.

The radio sounds great and looks quite nice. There is some room for improvement though... I would like to see a better quality display such as what the Grace Mondo has. The remote is not the most reassuring thing I've ever used either. It gets the job done but does not feel very durable. Of course there is a GraceRemote iPhone app that also lets you control Grace radios on a local network, but it would not identify my Innovator X and I attempted for over an hour to get it working. I'll update my review should I learn anything further about why GraceRemote app won't "see" the radio. UPDATE: Nov 1, 2012 I'm happy to report that based on my comments about the iPhone app not working properly, Grace discovered a problem with the app not recognizing the Innovator X and has subsuquently fixed the app. It works now and is fantastic. Makes operation of the radio by using the iPhone possible. Love the convenience.

I think all but the most technically dis-advantaged would be able to easily set this up and begin enjoying all that Internet Radio has to offer.

I got my first internet radio about 5 or 6 years ago; primarily because I could get no AM reception in my aluminum sided suburban home. This newer Innovator X is a real advancement in ease of use and features. Connection to your wi-fi is a straight forward process.

Things I like about the new radio:

AUX input for my XM receiver

Headphone jack for wife's nighttime privacy

Pandora

Internet corrected time

Media player connection to your computer music files

Solid construction and excellent sound

Podcast .xml streams

Great integration with Reciva website for finding and storing content

Good alarms and sleep timers

Amazon has a better price than the Grace website, but I had a $30 coupon so I bought it from Grace.

Internet radios are a strange niche, since all the content can already be accessed from your computer, but I like having it bed-side in an easy to use traditional form.

Once you get used to utilizing it, having instant access to any radio station across the globe is a great feature. This is particularly true for time shifting news talk radio and listening to non local pro and college sports broadcasts.

This Grace Digital Innovator X Internet Radio has earned a spot on my desk within easy reach. I have never had an internet radio before but it took less than an hour to read through the manual, set it up, and connect to the internet through my router wirelessly; register online for advanced services; set the time, date, and alarm; and sample, select, and preset channels.

I have really enjoyed being able to choose from thousands of channels, opera from Russia and Bollywood from India, news from NPR and local weather. It's not clear to me how there can be so many free stations without advertisements but there they are and they don't seem to be asking listeners to send rupees or rubles to support their broadcasts. It will stream my own music from the computer and there is an audio input plug in the back to connect an MP3 player or other device but it's nice to have the variety that radio offers and especially nice to not have to worry about deciding exactly which music to listen to. There are five preset buttons with a shift button to instantly access a total of ten favorite stations.

It has a very attractive appearance that is instantly identifiable as a classic table-top single-speaker radio yet it is very modern at the same time. There is excellent attention to detail in the design and the quality of manufacture is very sturdy and precise. The buttons and knobs and even the menus are very intuitive.

I was skeptical about the single speaker at first but the monophonic output truly captures that feeling of listening to a high-quality radio, something that I hadn't realize I missed. Sometimes I use headphones through the plug on front but for background music, the single speaker is very expressive and pleasant to listen to. The speaker is open in the back and I think that keeping it a few inches from the wall makes the sound richer.

The alarm clock can have separate setting for the weekdays and the weekends which is very handy. There is also a sleep timer but I prefer to use the little remote control to turn it off when I'm finished reading and ready to go to sleep. The different settings for the brightness of the display when in active use and at rest address one of my pet peeves, lights on electronics that are too bright at night.

The Grace Digital Innovator X actually actually has many, many more features than I use, like remote control apps for cell phones, WeatherBug on the LCD display, music queue, on-demand stations, and My Stations for 99 favorite channels. It is fun to play around with them but mostly I keep it simple and just listen to music plus news in the morning.

The only thing I don't like is that scrolling through the menus and alphabet is a bit quirky as the knob is very sensitive. Until I got used to it, I would turn it and would get stuck at the end of the current selections on display and reverse and start scrolling in the other direction. It takes just the right touch and a certain amount of pressure to make it do exactly what you want it to do.

A few tips:

* Set the wireless connection to be maintained even when the radio is turned off so that music will start playing faster when you turn it on by choosing: Settings > Network Config[uration] >Wireless Stand[by] > Yes. This is especially important if you want to use a broadcast as an alarm rather than the buzzer because it will default to the buzzer after a few seconds.

* Once, after using it for several days, it lost the wireless connection for no apparent reason and couldn't get it back. Everything seemed to be fine with the router. Turning it off and on didn't fix that but unplugging the electricity and then plugging it back in took care of it.

* Choose the the higher-quality transmission rates for radio stations that offer them and if you plan to use a headset or external speakers, don't forget to set stereo output by choosing Settings > Stereo Mode > Headset/Speake[r Stereo].

I was hoping this would prove a good tabletop Internet Radio for standalone (no computer required) use. Although it's a monaural unit, the sound quality was surprisingly good for its modest size. The radio connected easily to the house wi-fi network, but even with a 20Mbps Internet connection, it would stall and buffer on nearly every station tried. This was a real disappointment, since I had good Internet radio reception with any computer in the house. So I returned this item but did subsequently purchase the Grace MatchStick, which uses Amazon's Kindle Fire as a receiver and does play in stereo! The Kindle has never had a problem with streaming music, and the MatchStick, although with not quite as good low-end response as the item reviewed, sounds good for a bedroom music source.

Imagine listening to Reggae music while drinking a Jamaican Rum Punch out on the deck. Or, what about the sound of Bollywood while feasting on Tandoori Chicken? With this WiFi internet radio you can listen to thousands of music, podcasts and talk radio stations from all over the world. I listen to a classic rock station from Australia, an easy jazz station from Brazil and I practice my French listening skills with a news station from France. You can even listen to your Pandora station on it. It has kind of a retro look, but with a clean modern face. The combination of knobs, buttons and remote make it easy to navigate, after I looked up in the manual exactly what combinations to use the first time. It took less than 10 minutes to be up and running. It has 5 preset buttons and a shift key that can be pressed to access channels 6 to 10. It comes with a remote control but if you own and IOS or Android device, you can download an app that allows you to use your device as a remote control. It has a lot more options than the little remote that comes with the radio.

Set up was simple and the manual was easy to follow. After starting up it found my home network right away and I was able to put in my password and it connected. I've had the radio for a couple weeks and it only lost the connection once, in the beginning, I'm not sure why. I was able to reconnect by turning off the radio, unplugging it from the wall, replugging it and restarting again. When the radio started it connected right away without me having to do anything further. Since that time it's been turned on and off hundreds of times and it has worked perfectly ever since. I'm using it with a Linksys E3200 router, on a different floor and opposite end of the house.

Connecting to our Pandora station was as easy as getting the registration code from the radio by going into "setup" and pushing some buttons, registering the radio at grace.reciva.com and entering the email I used to open my Pandora account and Pandora password. Following the instructions I then unplugged my radio for one minute and fired it up again and was able to listen to music from Pandora on my radio. It even has "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" buttons on the remote. I find that we listen to Pandora a lot on this radio. It's like having your own private radio station.

The sound on this radio is very good given its small size. I can turn it up loud enough to hear it in a sometimes noisy household without any problem. You can tweak the sound profile in the settings menu as far as the bass and treble controls. The sound is crisp and clear with a good amount of bass.

The radio has alarms and a sleep timer where you can set up to 5 alarms. Each alarm can be one time only or repeating. You can wake up to a buzzer or the radio. (Be sure to set the wireless connection to be maintained even when the radio is turned off in the "Settings" menu.) There is an auxiliary input jack in the rear of the radio that you can use to connect the Innovator X and use its speaker for your smart phone, mp3 player or other device.

Grace Digital has a very good reputation with audio devices and this one is no exception. It feels solid and well put together. It comes with a good manual with easy to follow instructions and it has lots of great features. It would be a fun gift for anyone who likes music and I feel good about recommending to friends. Seth Thomas Silver Tone Metal and Black Rubber Case Grey with Digital LCD Dial Round Multifunction D

Seth Thomas Silver Tone Metal and Black Rubber Case Grey with Digital LCD Dial Round Multifunction Desk Clockgood overall clock, not currently using it's alarm feature (but it did work when I tested it out). It is at a comfortable angle for time viewing wether sitting at, or standing near the desk or table it sits on, crisp readout can be seen across a small room easily.

Battery operated, so highly portable can place about anywhere on the desk or table.

Agree with another reviewer the silver face (top only, not sides of the metal) has an unusual crackle-pattern white film across the entire surface (manufacturing process?) which did not buff off with a clean cloth but I will probably eventually try metal polish on it.

Odd because the sides of the metal ring are perfectly clean, just the top has the intermittent film and it's all a single metal piece.

Does not affect the operation of the clock.

I have been looking for this type of desk clock to put on my reception desk for a while. The clock has interesting features I was unaware of; like being able to set the time to two separate time zones at the same time (the smaller 10:00 time you see in the picture can be set so you can view a different time zone than the time above it), this is done by turning the silver rim around the face of the clock. The product itself is not large, so it fits on my desk well with enough room for the sign in book, but the numbers are large enough that they are easy to read. The only thing 'bad' I would say about it is, the silver face looks like a cheaper material than the pictures shows. I was thinking it was going to be more shiny, but other then that I love the product.

Bought this for the bedroom, the steel casing outer ring which gives it the look has got dirt all over it which I couldn't clean with water. Will be trying chemicals now.

I have got this to India (and there is no Indian city as World Time). So I am basically stuck with London and London.

It looks decent, but definitely not worth the money I bought it for, better clocks are available for same price.

I purchased this from a well-known electronics chain for $119 on sale to upgrade my factory CD/cassette/radio in my 2001 Camry w/ a JBL speaker system. I let the store do the install and watched the tech while he was doing it. He had no difficulty w/ any part of the install. He stated wiring was simple-just a straight switch out.

The unit is very easy to use. Most of the navigation of the unit is done via the master control/volume knob via pressing it and then turning to the desired folder and pressing again to select, etc. Anytime you want to get back to the Home screen, you can press the Esc. button-you don't have to wait 30 seconds or so for it to return on its own.

If you want to preset stations, press and hold one of the preset channels for about 3-5 seconds.

Regarding the radio ,you can set this unit to pick up just HD stations, just analog, or both via the Blend option-this will automatically pick up whatever the strongest signal is, whether analog or digital.

If you want to play your IPod via the USB, just plug it in and select USB via the MC [master control]. You can also set the unit to control the IPOD exclusively via the unit itself or via the IPod, or both.

If you want to plug and play through the auxillary cable, select Auxillary via the MC, etc.

The color of the lighted buttons are red. The screen is a simple LCD type, no fancy quality lettering. You can set it to display the clock, station, song names, artist name, track number etc.

Finally, you have a variety of other options in the control of this unit such as song shuffle, pre-programmed equalizer settings, loudness control, sound quality enhancers, etc.

For the price, this unit meets my needs and is very comparable to more expensive units. I think it is a good buy.

So I purchased Pioneer DEH-33HD b/c of its features and reputation that Pioneer has in a electronics world.

My experience happened to be very disappointing.

I had it professionally installed at a nearby Best Buy. The next day I noticed weird rattling noise coming from stereo unit. At first I thought that that was installation issue. Week later I went beck to Best Buy and had them redo the installation. This time I personally made sure that the job was done right and that is no wires or parts that can make noise when a car is running. After reinstallation I was very upset to find that the noise was still there. Then to test where the noise is coming from I took the stereo out and found that the noise was gone. I shook the stereo unit itself and found that there is something loose inside that rattles.

I contacted Pioneer customer support and they send me to local authorized dealer for free repair. It took dealer 2 weeks of working on it to tell me that there is nothing wrong with the unit and that the rattling that I can hear it normal for the stereo. As an example they showed me different pioneer model and demonstrated it rattling noises.

The OUTCOME... it was too late to return it to Amazon. Pioneer's dealer said that everything was fine. I could not live with noisy stereo unit and took it apart myself. I removed CD deck out and installed stereo beck in my car. So now I still can play music via USB, AUX and Radio, but unit is no longer CD capable ;( It is not a big deal for me, but might be for some people. When I took closer look on to the CD deck mechanism I found that Pioneer has loose top ring that accepts CD by design and it was the part that was making the noise.

PROS: great features, sound, price point, ergonomics of the buttons

CONS: faulty CD deck design that will make rattling noise when driving (read the story above)

I installed this one quickly and easily. The mounting bracket fit easily in my dashboard. I was replacing an Alpine stereo that was 8 years old but cost $700 when it was new and the sound quality is much much better is the new Pioneer. I like the HD display and the remote is easy to use as well while you are driving. I also bought the iPod cable Pioneer CD-IU50 Usb IpodInterface Cable and use it to play my music and it works great! I also got a cable to hook up my Kindle Monster iCable 800 MP3 Player to Auxiliary Input Cord (3 Feet) and using the text to speech option on the Kindle it will play over my car stereo. You could also hook up a mp3 player in the same jack. I like the fact that I can leave both cables plugged into the front of the stereo and it will automatically play the correct device when I plug it in and I don't have to unplug the other cable. Aux1 is my iPod and Aux2 is my Kindle. I haven't used the CD player because I don't carry CDs anymore but I'm sure it works just fine. I bought this radio with the iPod and Kindle in mind and I am very happy with my purchase.

I installed this radio in my 09 Nissan Titan a few days ago, and I am more than satisfied. Still learning all the features, because there are so many. This is my first Pioneer, and probably not my last. I am a big Sony fan, but I couldn't find the equivalent (CDX-GT700HD) in the same discounted price range. The amount of detailed sound adjustments surprised me. From the preamp gain, and the sub gain, to the low pass hz cut off options, I am really impressed. The USB functioning is awesome as well; I made some genre folders (rock, rap, pop, etc.) on a generic thumb drive, and populated them with MP3's and WMA's. The head unit quickly read them, then let me use the up and down arrows to move from folder to folder, while the left and right arrows let me move from song to song within each folder. And if the song has that digital sound to it, you can press the ASR button and it filters it out. Considering I bought this for $89, and any other radio that is HD ready will cost you an addditional $90-100 for the HD receiver, how could you ever go wrong? YOU CAN'T! ***GREAT PRODUCT***

this receiver does everything well. my only problem with it is that it only has 2 sets of pre outs and for 30 more dollars you can get 3 sets of preouts to hook up 3 amps easily. otherwise, the receiver sounds great and is easy to use, I would reccomend this to anyone

  • 10 Preset Station Memory - Battery Charging after iPhone/iPod Unit Docked-in - 2-way Speaker Box

This works fine for a clock radio but you better have a piece of dark cloth handy to cover the very bright blue light that emits from the CD player! The box claims it has a 100 watt output. (a-hem) I'm thinking more like 25 or 30 because the speakers vibrate way too much at upper levels and the bass is pretty much a no show. You better have a fairly large night stand because this will eat up lots of space. The speakers and main unit feels really light that they almost feel hollow. The small remote should have had a back light for dark room use or at least have buttons that let your finger know what's being pressed.

It is slightly bigger than I had expected, but I like the unit as a whole. I set mine on a chest of drawers in my bedroom, which forces me to get out of bed. No sleeping through this alarm, the speakers are loud and clear. I like the cd player and ipod docking station. There are many features included with this system at the price, great bargain, good quality system.
