- 32 inch wall-mountable bar speaker with dock for iPhone/iPod (iPhone/iPod sold separately)
- CD/DVD player
- 10 FM radio presets with digital volume control
- Full function remote control (batteries included)
- AC adaptor included
After mounting the unit I ran it through it's paces. DVD's both store bought and burned at home played without issue. I really couldn't see any difference between 480P and upconversion to 1080P (my TV is a 1080P LCD). The DVD menu system is rudimentary at best but it gets the job done. The FM radio worked fine. The iPod dock is only iPhone 3GS and backwards compatible. My iPhone 4 complained when docked but it still played and output video and sound OK and was controllable by the iLive remote. The manual is well done and reasonably complete though it is completely lacking any coverage of the video system setup menus.
The most important feature I was looking for was to wall mount the unit. It comes with a plastic bracket to attach to the wall and the unit has two sturdy metal bracket hooks that hang the unit on the bracket. The hooks slide into two slots on the bracket that allow for horizontal movement within a limited range to perfectly center the unit as needed. That's the good news. The bad news is that there is NO provision for cables to route from behind the unit up to a TV. When wall mounted the unit is flush with the wall and the only way to run cables to a TV above is to route them along the bottom of the unit and up the side at the very end. Obviously this is not aesthetically pleasing. I did find a workaround that while not optimal did get the job done. I removed the metal bracket hooks from the back of the unit (four screws each) and bent them outward slightly in order to create a narrow gap between the unit and the wall bracket. I was then able to route the various cables (power, etc) through the gap and up to the TV. I then tidied them up with some cable tubing. I purchased a flat HDMI cable for this purpose. Standard round HDMI cables will NOT work.
Amazon lists this item as being added in 10/2010. The owner's manual shows a date of July 2010 and the manufacture date on the unit also shows July 2010. The unit was drop shipped from the manufacturer and given it's age I wouldn't be surprised if this item isn't available much longer.
Pros:
1. Upconverting DVD player
2. iPod Dock
3. Speaker Bar
4. Can be wall mounted
5. FM Radio/Alarm
6. HDMI output
Cons:
1. Source of DVD mechanism and upconversion processor is unknown.
2. Sound quality of the speakers is not the greatest but it can get pretty loud. Keep your expectations realistic.
3. iPod dock is compatible with iPhone 3GS and older.
4. Wall mount has a significant design flaw.
Quality and longevity for this brand appears to be mixed and I can't speak to that since I just purchased the unit. Hopefully it will last a while given that it won't be used that often. For the price, I think this was a reasonably good purchase. At this point I would rate it four stars but the wall bracket flaw drops it to three. The sound quality is pathetic, not even good enough for a bedroom. the controls are very unintuitive, not worth spending money regardless of the priceI was so happy to find an electronic device that had all the features that I wanted and when I set it up to play, I was so disapointed. The clock was very faint you need to be up close to read it. The DVD player would play one DVD and not the next. The sound system looked impresssive but the actual sound was more like a childs toy. The remote control was hard to use, you have to point it directly at product and hope it sticks. I did not even attempt to try the Ipod and just repackaged the unit for a refund. I say DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT, but if you need to still try this unit, make sure you buy it thru Amazon because they are the best at refunding your purchase with no questions asked.
I really wanted this product to work. I need a player that has a DVD/CD player, Ipod/Iphone docking station, a sleep/wake timer that controls all with one remote,
This was the only thing I could find that came close and man was I disapointed.I needed to find a docking station with decent sound for my home. Also, I did not have adequate sound from my LED TV. This product provided sound in that room without running wires from a surround sound system, and without an expensive receiver/wireless speaker system. Additionally, it provided a docking station for my nano, and iPod touch. The bonus was that I also have a DVD player for this room without another set of wires, another remote, and another piece of equipment.
This product provided everything that it had advertised. The apple products work well with the remote, and the boost in sound is significant.just add a subwoofer and it sounds great it has a subwoofer connection input for easy hookup .easy to attach to wall. took all but ten minute
