The new Tripp Lite units seemed to be better built than the APCs they were replacing (similar ratings)and I think Tripp Lite is a better brand name with the benefit of equipment replacement warranties should they fail.
Buying these from Amazon was a great deal as well. Got free shipping and that made a real big difference.
Having 12 separate outlets on these units made for easier use as we didn't have to use an additional power strip for some of the little items (Phone, external hard disks, etc.).
We won't know for some time if the battery life is comparable or not. The APCs were failing after 16-20 months. The initial impression is that it is a high quality unit and we expect better longevity from these.I got this model to replace an older APC unit that started acting up, even with a new replacement battery.
I've had good luck with Tripp Lite products in the past (better than APC); after only two weeks with this particular model, I have no complaints.
Two caveats, though:
1) The PowerAlert UPS-monitoring software (available as a download from the Tripp Lite web site: ) installed without any problem; however, in order to get the "PowerAlert Console" to run (at all) I had to upgrade my "Java Runtime" (another download at ). I discovered this fix only by Googling "PowerAlert Console Java error" -it was *not* documented anywhere (that I could find) on Tripp Lite's site, or in the PowerAlert documentation. Once I upgraded my Java, though, the Console loaded and ran like a champ.
2) As far as I can tell, there is no way to replace the battery in this unit, short of taking it to some service center or returning it to Tripp Lite. (I'd be happy to be wrong about this, but I don't think I am.) The "ECO750 UPS" is sealed up tight, so it looks like when the battery finally goes kaput, you need to replace the whole thing (or shell out money to have a pro do the job -which probably wouldn't be cost-efficient).
This "can't fix it yourself" limitation is somewhat disappointing to me. Moreover, it seems to defeat the idea of having an "ecologically responsible" product if you're looking at (probably) throwing the whole thing out when the battery dies.Purchased the Tripp Lite ECO750UPS ECO Energy Efficient 750VA Compact UPS (12 Outlets) and started using it the end of April 2010. I verified the operation of the UPS battery twice in that time with a desktop PC and 18" monitor by unpluging it from the household power, worked as advertised. Had a real power failure and the battery backup FAILED to work, computer crashed ! I purchased this brand as the last Tripp Lite internet 675 worked flawlessly for nearly 10 years. Now I will have to deal with warranty issure after 2 months use.Bought 3, 2 for use with pc, 1 for use with router, modem, and external network hard drive. Have not tried all the options for green use/energy conservation. 1 of 3 units failed with in 1 month, only outlets that work are the surge, battery outlets do not work at all. disapointed with quick failure going to try and get it replaced. This UPS is protecting my cable modem, ooma Telo VOIP box, wireless router, laptop and peripherals. It has done a nice job. The power has gone out momentarily once our twice since I installed the Tripp Lite and everything has stayed on and available. I really appreciate that the box has 12 outlets. There are some widely spaced gaps between some of the outlets, although I have had to be a little creative to fit in five power bricks among other plugs. I gave the device four stars instead of five because it emits a series of loud beeps when the power cuts out and the beeping cannot be turned off. I would rather not have my UPS disturbing me when the power goes out. If you do not want to turn off the alarm, this device may be perfect for you.
