La Crosse Technology 810-106 NOAA/AM/FM Severe Weather Alert Radio with solar panel or hand crank re

La Crosse Technology 810-106 NOAA/AM/FM Severe Weather Alert Radio with solar panel or hand crank recharging power, USA-made IC chip for High Quality Digital reception, mobile device charging port, rugged design with non-slip rubberized black finish and high intensity LED flashlightThis is a pretty decent radio, charges by USB cable to your computer or solar panel. The description says it can charge your cell phone, but it doesn't tell you that you have to order a special adapter kit in order to do so.

The alarm also has no settings, so if the radio is turned off it won't alert you when there is a watch or warning. You have to have it on, then hold down a button to silence the weather radio. Also you can't set it to ignore watch alerts, so this thing goes off all night when there isn't a warning. It also doesn't silence it self so you have to get up and disable it.

......and there is no way to return it to the seller. Battery is fine, flash light comes on, but display says no batrery. You crank it and it doesn't work.

We took the battery out, put it back again. It worked for 5 minutes and stopped working again. We cranked it for one minute, but that didn't make it work either.

It has a usb connection. But does not come with a usb charger. We had one at home. We charged it with that and that made it work.

Everything I wanted in a weather radio. Cranked it up for a little over a minute and the radio lasted about an hour. Awesome for when the power goes out.

Read Best Reviews of La Crosse Technology 810-106 NOAA/AM/FM Severe Weather Alert Radio with solar panel or hand crank re Here

This item is small, compact, lightweight, attractive and puts out a soild sound...IF IT WOULD ONLY HOLD A CHARGE IT WOULD BE A KEEPER BUT IT IS NOT. Find another radio with better reviews I should have read them first. Here's what I experienced;

Directions: 1 minute cranking lasts 30 mins of radio play exposed to bright sun can last all day doubt it.

time 4:12 pm 4:42 pm 1st 60 sec crank lasted exactly 1 half hour ( 30 mins)

time 4:42 pm 4:51 pm 2nd 60 sec crank lasted ONLY: 9 mins

time 4:52 pm 4:58 pm 3rd crank lasts ONLY 6 mins

time 4:59 pm 5:11 pm 4th crank lasts ONLY 12 mins

time 5:12 pm 5:15 pm 5th crank lasts ONLY 3 mins

time 5:16 pm 5:19 pm 6th crank lasts ONLY 3 mins

During this period from 4:12 pm to 5:19 pm the LED light still worked but each time the radio instantly shuts down, just stops working. NOT AT ALL RELIABLE NOR CAPABLE OF HOLDING A SUFFICIENT CHARGE. Now as you may know rechargeable batteries have memory and you must let them charge & completely discharge before recharging in order to ensure a full charge each time so either the lithium batteries are defective or the mechanics of the radio are inferior.

Want La Crosse Technology 810-106 NOAA/AM/FM Severe Weather Alert Radio with solar panel or hand crank re Discount?

The radio itself is great and I have no issues with the flashlight or charging of the radio.

After buying the accessory kit, I was told that the phone was designed before many smartphones and is unable to generate enough power to charge an iPhone 4s. I think it is irresponsible to advertise that the device charges a cell phone when it is too underpowered to charge a phone that makes up a significant portion of today's marketshare. There is an iPhone adapter in the kit, but only when the device is being cranked or in the sun does the phone recognize it is charging. The battery on the phone receives no significant charge in over an hour's time in the sun with a fully charged (via usb) radio battery.
