Was so excited to get the photo frame it was very pretty. I put my camera card in a up came all my pictures. Beautiful, I thought. Unfortunately the remote didn't work. Took it to Radio Shack and they put a new battery in for me. Got it home and it worked for about a day. I found it impossible to operate without the remote so I sent it back. Thanks to Amazon and the distributor I got a full refund. Think I'll wait until they get the bugs out of this product before I get another one. I should have read some reviews before ordering.

I got this for my husband for his birthday. I think it was a good purchase for the $. Most docks I found (especially when looking in stores) only had one outlet but we have 2 iPhones and a iPad and I wanted to be able to charge them all at once. The dock is mostly square in shape and takes up a little more room that I hoped, but was comparable to the other speaker/dock stations I saw. The clock face is a great size and visible from across the room. The speaker works well. I thought the phones would plug directly into the "docks", but they acutally plug into the apple cords (you provide) and then sit in cradles. You can see the white cord in the photo. Then the back of the dock has space for four plugs and to wrap the cords. Same with the speaker, it plugs to a cord not directly to the dock. Definitely solves the fight over the charger or discovering the your phone didn't charge last night because the hubby swapped it out for his.

I'll mention that I checked various on-line stores for this product and amazon's vendors offered the best price. I waited until it was available through amazon directly because I wanted a better return policy (since it was a gift).

Perhaps I did not read the online description very well. I'm not sure. Either way, I would avoid this contraption unless you are looking for a large clock that can also hold your electronics in a less messy way. Basically, the device is a clock that has four USB connections (cords not supplied) for you to plug in electronics. I would suggest saving the money and just buy a multi-USB charger for a fraction of the price.

The unit is great...EXCEPT when the radio alarm goes off, it is on loud and I keep turning it down but when the alarm goes off, it is too loud music. I have great hearing but don't like to be startled awake. It appears this is a problem with the unit as others have same issue. The directions were not helpful. May have to return it if problem is not fixed. I had such high expectations for this. Can anyone help me??!!

I bought this clock as a birthday gift for my husband. He really wanted a dual-alarm clock that had separate settings for weekdays and weekends. He also wanted one he could read at night without putting on his glasses. This clock does both and does them beautifully! It's a very intuitive design I didn't even need to read the directions in order to set it up. I literally plugged it into the wall and the clock set itself to the correct time. The clockface is easy to read at night. The radio works well and the whole unit takes up only about 4 square inches of space on the nightstand. It's a great unit and we are both very pleased!

I didn't buy this for the alarm, though I do use it in a pinch. I bought this to replace an AM/FM radio, and I was amazed at the sound that this puts out. It sounds like stereo, and it's preset "equalizer" is just the right mix of bass and treble. FM sounds great!

And the auto time set is great. When that feature first came out, you were look at $75 minimum just for a clock. Now we use this one as the standard by which to set all the other clocks in the house.

And, again, it's only $30.

I have had this clock for years and it is the best alarm clock I have ever had. A few great features are: the radio sound is great, it automatically sets the time, duel alarms are perfect for my husband and me, weekday/weekend option is great, and it has a back-up system if the power goes out. We have the clock on our boat so the back-up system is wonderful for when we go out sailing for an extended period of time. It goes into a power saving mode and the batteries seem to last forever.

My one problem with the clock is a feature that used to be great and has become a problem. The clock is designed to reset for daylight savings time. When they changed the date for daylight saving it caused the problem. The clock now resets on the wrong date. So this morning my husband got into the car and found out that he is an hour late for work. Today is not daylight savings day; it is the day that used to be daylight savings time (that excuse is a little more difficult to explain). I am currently online to find a way to fix the problem because it is a perfect clock for me otherwise.

I bought this for my kids' bedroom to replace a boombox and add an alarm clock at the same time. We have played a thunderstorm/white noise CD when they are in bed for quite a while now to help them sleep, so when the boombox stopped working I wanted to buy a single product to be an alarm clock and CD player. This product was nice and cheap, so I thought it would work. It seems to work okay, but lacks one feature that I wanted and just assumed that it would have repeat all. When we play the CD for the kids to sleep we have it repeat over and over through the night (it helps them stay asleep, not just get to sleep). This CD player will not do that, however. It will play the CD all the way through and then just stop. Every other device I've owned with a CD player had the option to keep playing it over and over so I just assumed this one would, too. Several of the other reviews mention using this product with sleep-aid CDs, so I was encouraged to buy it. The others who use it for said purpose must only fall asleep to it and let it turn off, I suppose.

So not a bad product (although it's really light and feels kind of cheap), just not good enough for me.

CD player works well, clock brightness is just right. Music can sound tinny when volume is up high, but we use it to play lullabies.

Lid for CD player feels a little cheap (thin plastic), but I wasn't going for high-end here.

Exactly what I expected and needed. Would buy again.

I bought this phone to replace my old Siemens 2420 Gigaset which was just horrible. The only reason I kept it was because it would forward distinctive ring calls out the second port (which I use as my fax). The Uniden does not do this but I purchased a device to take care of that. Here is the quick and dirty:

Pros:

-It works great with my Wireless G network no outages and no interference.

The size of the number keys on the base set are larger than the model with two wireless handsets. Very easy to dial. This is a big plus as the TRU-8885 model has TINY buttons.

-The handsets and base station have their own phonebooks but you can send stored entries to one another (base to handset, handset to handset, handset to base). You can send one at a time or the entire phonebook at once.

-Display is large and easy to read.

-Speakerphone is loud and clear on both handset and base. People I've called hardly noticed I was on speakerphone.

Cons:

-The sound quality of the corded handset sounds a bit "hollow". Uniden claims to use some kind of sound technology to enhance sound quality but I don't like it. There is no way to turn it off!! Speakerphone sounds great though.

-Caller ID is saved on every handset and base. You have to delete them individually from each handset and base. At least there is a delete all option.

-You can't dial directly from the Caller ID menu because It doesn't add the "1" in front of the area code. All you have to do is hit the "*" key and it will add the "1".

-Can't adjust the ring volume on the base and it is LOUD.

Overall, I can't give this phone five stars because of the cons listed above, but don't let that stop you from picking this up. It is great if you can live with the loud ringer on the base and the "hollow" sound from the corded handset. The cordless handsets sound great. Weird.

I just received my phone last night and I LOVE it. I never really write reviews until its super great or super bad.. this phone is just awesome.

I wanted to counter some of the "CONS" that some of the previous reviewers stated.

1. "Can't adjust the ring volume on the base and it is LOUD."

That's NOT true. You simply hit the volume on the base when its not in use, and it gives you three options: OFF, LOW, and HIGH.

2. "You can't dial directly from the Caller ID menu because It doesn't add the "1" in front of the area code. All you have to do is hit the "*" key and it will add the "1".

This makes sense because not all states require a "1" when dialing another intrastate area code, like Texas.

3. "The sound quality of the corded handset sounds a bit 'hollow'".

Thats not the same in my case. The corded and the cordless both have great clarity and sound.

Here are some extra perks that I just love-

The cordless handset emulates a lot of newer cell phone technology, such as speakerphone ON THE HANDSET and BASE. If you want to call someone and have a group of people listen, you don't all have to gather around the base on the table..you can just hold up the handset since it also has an external speaker.

Also, there's a DO NOT DISTURB button..which silences all the handsets and base with one push. So if you just want a little free time, you dont need to disconnect, just hit DND and the caller ID will still log of your calls.

All in all, I just HIGHLY recommend this phone. It will last you a long time (my bf's uniden still has great sound and its 4+ years old..my toshiba lasted only 2 years)

I think I'm going to return this phone. I absolutely love it, and it works great, and I ranked it five stars. However, it's not working well with my Plantronics CS50 wireless headset. The sound distorts on the headset and will sound sort of like "alien voices" in a bad sci-fi flick, and sometimes I get loud feedback. Also, the Plantronics handset lifter barely works with the handset of the Uniden--there is not enough space to wedge it between the handset and the base. It is working, but it is a bit precarious in that respect.

Now, if you're a normal human being and aren't planning on using this phone with fancy wireless headset and such, it is an excellent device. I had returned a 2.4 GHz phone which had so much static and noise and also caused the wireless connection on my laptop to disconnect. This phone doesn't seem to interfere with wireless networking equipment at all--or suffer ill effects from all of the other wireless devices in other buildings (I live in a crowded city).

Also, the clarity on both the corded handset and the cordless phone are excellent. I think it must be the fact that it's not only in the 5.8 GHz band, but it's also digital. My best friend called me, and I asked "who's this?" and I realized that I was thrown off because on this phone, she sounds exactly like she does in person, which I was not expecting.

Also, after having reviewed the manual, all of the features were easy to use. The setup and the preferences were easy to configure. Overall, I would highly recommend this product. The only non-intuitive thing was that you have to adjust the volume of the phone itself while your greeting is playing back or something...otherwise the volume control applies to the volume when you're on the handset. It was twice as much money as the 2.4 GHz AT&T model that I tried at first, and I think it is worth it because it was perfect out of the box.

I also love the fact that you have mute buttons on both the corded base and on the cordless handset. Also--if the line is already in use, it tells you so via a message on the cordless handset or a light on the base. You can change settings on the base remotely from the cordless handset. And the phonebook feature allows you to send the phonebook from base to cordless handset (I've seem some reviewers of other phones requesting this feature).

Overall, a really great device.

I am quite satisfied with this telephone.

Best points:

1. Excellent reception/voice quality using the cordless handset.

2. Despite some of the other reviewers' comments, I do not think that the corded handset has a "hollow" sound.

3. The speakerphone is excellent, although people I am speaking to are aware of the fact that I am using the speakerphone.

4. The other reviewers are incorrect the ringer volume on the base unit IS adjustable. One simply presses the up arrow or down arrow key just to the right of the display. There are three choices: ringer off, low ringer, loud ringer.

4. Set-up is easy

Worst points:

1. The remote access code is only 2 digits of your choice not very good security.

2. The cordless phone provides a choice of ringer tones/tunes. However, the base unit has no choice at all. The result in my apartment is that I hear a combination of the base unit ringer and the cordless unit tune when someone calls.

3. The base unit is not especially attractive. It is black with a cheap-appearing silver shell around the keys.

4. The corded handset is too small not comfortable to hold.

Overall, I recommend it strongly for anyone who wants a corded base with cordless extensions and needs 5.8 GHz (important for apartment living where interference levels are high).

I bought this phone to replace a Panasonic 900 mhz cordless with answering machine (which has been a good phone, but message playback was loosing quality and the handset battery was dying) that was 8 or more years old.

A trip to the giant electronics/appliance store proved to be dissapointing. If we can put people on the moon, why can't they make a decent cordless phone/answering machine I was thinking, until I saw the Uniden. I liked it right away because it has a ton of useable features, is expandable to 10 cordless handsets, and the cordless handsets are a manageable size (slightly larger than a cell phone).

After bringing it home (with one extra cordless handset purchased seperately), I found a lot more features that I thought were great. In addition, the range is fantastic, farther than the 900 mhz phone it replaced and further than the 2.4 GE that I have in my home office. Sound quality at distance is crystal clear, a feature I liked as I stretched out in my hammock in the backyard with a cigar and a scotch while making some calls that used to be done by cell phone.

Other features I found very useful:

global programming features (set the time on one phone and all the others match it).

check and listen to messages from any handset.

distinctive ring tones that can be assigned to frequent callers.

pre-recorded greeting that sounded professional and had great quality (not a robotic voice).

room monitoring like a baby monitor, but it rings the phone before it kicks in.

intercom dialing between handsets.

all handsets blink a red light if a new message was received by the base unit.

easy to see readouts on handsets and base (nice dark black lettering on a pleasant orange LCD background).

The cordless handsets also have a walkie-talkie function (you take a couple with you someplace away from home and you can make calls between them).

No external antennaes.

Easy to adjust volume of ringer and conversations.

Do not disturb feature (phone and answering machine still work, but in a silent mode).

So far I have only found one thing that is missing when listening to messages the phone does not display the caller ID info for the caller that left the message. My old Panasonic did that and it was a feature that I used often. You can still read the caller ID info, but it doesn't automatically display when playing the message. I am still learning the features, but I think that you have to exit the messages, remember what time the message was left, and the scroll through the CID info to find the information. Not a deal breaker for me, but something that I really liked on the old phone.

My technophobe wife loves this phone and said I did well in picking it out. My teenage son (who thinks computers should rule the world) loves it and said "these are too cool." I'm somewhere between the two of them and I love the phones as well.

I'm extremely pleased with this purchase. Also, Amazon's prices are slightly cheaper than the big box stores, and after writing this review I am going to order a couple of more expansion handsets.

I bought this to replace my old alarm clock. It has a sleek design that takes up very little space. It has two alarms and can be set to radio, beeps or songs and has an adjustable snooze setting. The built in radio works well and there's a sleep setting so that if you like to fall asleep to the radio you can have it automatically shut off after a certain amount of time.

It has an adjustable brightness level, but I found its default/highest level to be suitable. At that level it's bright enough to see in the dark, but not bright enough to keep me up. The alarm is easy to wake up to and gradually gets louder on the beep setting. It automatically set itself to the correct time and date as soon as I plugged it in, all I had to do is set the time zone. It has a DST feature that can be turned off or on.

The only feature lacking is the ability to customize the alarm for either weekdays, weekends or both. It's not a big deal, especially with two alarms but it would have been nice. Overall I'm very pleased with this alarm clock.

Decent alarm clock for the price.

Pros: inexpensive, preset time, dst auto adjust, battery backup for power failure, easy to tune radio stations, easy to read display, brightness of display is adjustable.

Cons: Alarm "A" can be set to chime or radio, Alarm "B" can only be set to chime or an electronic tune. Both alarms cannot be set to the radio. Cannot adjust or view the alarm setpoint unless the alarm is turned on, so when you pass the current time the alarm activates. Radio sound is poor but in line with the price of the alarm clock. The snooze can increased from 10 min to 20 min to 30 min etc, but if you hit the snooze button twice while initially silencing the alarm, you go straight to the 20 min snooze.

Overall: a good alarm clock for the price but I would have paid more for a full featured clock radio had I know its limitations up front.

The item description is very accurate. If you want a dual alarm clock radio similar to those from 10 years ago, that is exactly what you will get and that is why I ordered it. Nothing fancy, just basic but with the Sony dependability. There are a few nice things though the time is preset, options for the dual alarms sound, adjustable brightness, battery backup, very easy to operate and the AM radio actually works well, unlike other clock radios. This clock radio has no frills but for the price, it is good and dependable.

I have been using this alarm clock for 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. After years of searching for the right alarm clock I finally found it.

Positives:

1) I can see the display! I have moderately poor vision (glasses prescription is -3.75) and if I wake up in the middle of the night I can clearly see the time with this clock at my bedside. The green light plus the large numbers are very clear.

2) The progressive alarm wakes up even my heavy-sleeping husband. The first few beeps are slow and they gradually speed up to grab the attention of the heaviest sleepers.

3) You don't have to set the time! What more can I say? You set the timezone, plug it in, and it sets the time. It even catches daylight savings.

4) If the power goes out the small battery saves your alarm settings so when the power comes back on, the clock resets itself and you still have your alarms ready to go. This has saved me from being late to work more than once after a late night power outage.

5) The display light is adjustable. I've had green/blue alarm clocks before and the display was so bright it practically light up the whole room. The dim setting is fine at night, I can see it but it's not acting like a flood light, and I can still see the display just fine during the day too on the dim setting. Though during daylight hours I do have to get a little closer to the clock to see it.

6) I love the full 10 minute snooze. I don't understand why other clocks have a 7 or 9 minute one.

7) You can turn off the alarm when it's in snooze-mode, you don't have to wait for the alarm to go off again.

Neutrals:

1) The radio isn't great, lots of static and the speakers don't sound perfect. But I wasn't buying a radio, I was buying an alarm clock so that doesn't really matter to me. If you want a radio go buy a radio. *shrug*

2) The alarm isn't terribly loud. This is counter-acted by the progressive alarm beeping.

3) It's a little bit large, but for the big display numbers I assume that's kind of necessary.

Cons:

I really don't have anything bad to say about this clock.

One other note:

Some people have mentioned in their reviews that you cannot set the snooze back to 10 minutes if you go too far. If this happens wait until the snooze display clears off (takes a few seconds) then re-hit the snooze button, this will reset it to 10 minutes.

I feel like a complete goof for reviewing an alarm clock, but I love this one. I have had 4-5 alarm clocks in the past few years that I have either gotten rid of or just tolerated. The old alarm clock that I have been using for the longest time wasn't working properly so I bought this. I couldn't be happier. You can intuitively figure out how to program it w/o a manual. The plastic is a slightly shiny and nice looking; the face is very clear. The two alarm options were a requirement for me. The 1st allows a tone or radio and the second allows a tone or a weird melody tune.... thing. I like the buzzer because it is a little higher pitched than I have heard on so many alarms and SIGNIFICANTLY less jarring in the morning. It's not a ENNNNHHH ENHHH ENHHHHH!!!!; it's more of a beep beep... beep beep, similar to a watch. It doesn't jar me out of bed and immediately stress me out in the mornings like most other alarms. The time auto set to DST and is powered by some kind of cell battery that is included (no 9 Volts). Several brightness options are there. I would have preferred another slightly dimmer brightness setting because sometimes I am very sensitive to light, but that is a nit picky detail. Regardless, the lowest setting is lower than most other alarm clocks I have seen / used. The price was below twenty five, which was a bargain. The radio is clear and free of static, the tuning is adjusted vial dial (vs. buttons). The alarm programming can also be done both ways and fast forwarded in EITHER direction (vs. just fast forward and slow backward).

I would recommend this to a friend solely due to the more friendly buzzer, let alone the pleasant look and the ease of programming.

It may seem like this is just another boombox in a never ending list of products whose faces change each year. On the surface this unit has cheap plastic parts, a big ugly 'X', and a silly little display that is about as exciting as a clock radio from 1982. The parts such as the CD door could easily be destroyed by a one-year-old (meaning, the child would not find it very difficult at all).

So, why would anyone want this $100 hunk of plastic? And why was the unit I purchased the very last one on the shelf? And why in the world is it missing features like "MP3 playback", and includes archaic features like "cassette deck"? You've got me! Fortunately, none of this matters.

For the purpose I bought it for--plugging in a portable music player--this is the box that puts all the others to shame. For such a low price I doubt there is any product in the world that delivers this kind of power and bass response. Featuring 2 4" speakers AND a 4" subwoofer this unit is ready to churn out a wide range of hip-hop, dance music, and much more.

To put it bluntly this 20 watt system (4W + 4W @ 3.2 ohms, 12 W @ 4 ohms) sounds huge and is a perfect companion for a device such as an iPod. I consider this product fierce competition to some of the weak sounding speaker systems alluringly sold along side iPods. With a simple cable (1/8" stereo to 1/8" stereo, NOT INCLUDED) you can plug any portable audio device into this boombox.

Sony has successfully filled this corner for years, offering cheap boomboxes with good bass, and the very important "line-in"! Oh, and it comes with a remote control, plays CD's and CDR's, and has an AM/FM radio. It's fairly heavy and has a deep footprint: 20 13/15 x 12 7/8 x 9 1/2" (530 x 327 x 241mm). Despite any oddness, for this price I can't imagine being happier.

I tried it out in a local Best Buy, tuned to the local FM station and I was blown away by the deep bass and seperation. When you can notice that in a crowded store thats a good sign. I also wanted a line in for my portable dVD player and my roady2 from XM and I am very pleased.

I wlways loved the "virtual surround" on some of these but I couldn t find any unit with this kind of sound, virtual surround and a line in, but this sure comes close.

Only complaint is the lack of a lighted display,but I can live with that. With four different sound settings, the super woofer and a line in jack this is as closeto perfection I ve found in a boombox.

I agree with the review that is written underneath this one~ when you recieve it, it is not attractive and you wonder "Where in the world will I put this thing so it doesn't look like a space ship just landed from Venus?" But when you turn it on.... It just dosen't matter. It has the best sound I have ever heard from a portable and you will have no need to own any other type of stero. I'm 47 and I have owned alot of sound equipment in my day. This is a good sounding boombox with A CASSETTE PLAYER! When you are my age, at some point in life you must have owned vinyl records, 8-tracks, and compact cassettes. So if you're like me, you don't want to be bothered throwing away all of your tapes and replacing them with CD's. But what to play them on? Good luck finding something that sounds great and that you don't have to search used vintage stereo equipment stores or pawn shops to buy. Now this thing looks stupid, and I feel really old when I look at it (because this product was obviously meant for the younger crowd), but I can get past that because of how good it sounds. Not to mention that I don't have to replace all of my cassettes now. I cannot vouch for it's quality as I know things are made much more cheaply these days, but I plan on being very careful with it so I can KEEP MY TAPES and have a great sounding box on which to play them.

I bought this boombox to use mainly as a car stereo so I could hopefully eliminate spending $700-$800 on a complete car system, since my car stereo doesn't work at all. I knew I needed something loud and with a big bass sound to overpower road noise. Sony's Xplode boombox does not dissapoint! Fantastic booming bass when and if you want it, as it is adjustable and can be cranked up as loud as I would ever need. I read the reviews here and am quite happy with my purchase although I wound up buying it online and picking it up through a local retailer, since Ace Digital claimed the unit was out of stock and perhaps discontinued. If you want a great boombox with with incredible sound, move quickly and get this unit before it does dissappear from production. I do however wish the unit came with a bigger display that was backlit. It's really small and hard to read. The remote control is great but you can't tell what function you are accessing unless your standing inches away from the display. Kind of defeats the purpose of having the remote control. I would have given the unit 5 starts if it wasn't for this. In any case, I like the unit so much, I may be purchasing a second one for the house. If you are a stickler about full rich sound, no matter what your style of music, this is your boombox.

I have this product before and it has done it job. I use it on midland brand weather radios in a tough terrain environment. Unless the antenna is positioned perfectly in tough terrain will it pick up the signal. In a high apartment it works well. But in little to no signal environment the antenna increases the gain some what.

Conclusion: if you are in an area where the signal is noisy or hard to hear this antenna will improve that signal. If you live in an area with poor to no signal, this product is not for you. Buy a large antenna to mount outside, and run the cable inside for your weather radio.

Wired it into the system and am using it to provide notification along with our weather radio system. Works well.

I ordered two Midland WR-300s and two Reecom RA-1601 external antennas. A set for my upstairs bedroom, and a set for the living room. When I plug in the external antenna in EITHER unit, it does -nothing-. No change. SO, I removed the built in telescoping antenna. Terrible reception, so THEN I plugged the Reecom antenna back in and no change. None. Both antennas switched to both units, nothing. If it is a bad external jack, then the jack is bad on two units that are brand new. Not returning, as its not worth the hassle. I'll throw both antennas in the electronics box and who knows if I can find a use down the road where I can test them again. I even used the batterys to take the radio/antenna outside and still NO reception with only the external antenna plugged in. When I screw the telescoping antenna back in (using the tiny screw to hold it back on), I get reception. I live in Dallas.

I just purchased one of these for the 1) Sound Quality excellent with great bass 2) Look it is elegant and beautiful to look at, 3) Design I could dock my iPhone 3GS with a case on it (if you have a case on your phone trust me, you don't want a dock that requires you to remove your case) and it does come with three different dock adaptors for various phones but leaving them off lets you use you phone without a case, and 4) the Bluetooth capable.

This unit gets A's in the first three categories but may completely fail for you as it did me, in the Bluetooth area. The ability to stream music from an iPhone or iPad, and even your laptop (which has a more limited bluetooth range than a iPhone or iPad) without docking is wonderfully useful feature as this lets you use your device while listening to your iTunes, and apps like AccuRadio, TuneIn Radio, Pandora... Here's the problem, the Bluetooth feature just didn't work with my iPhone 3GS. I read the manual and tried everything on both my iPhone and MacBook Pro at close range but neither would recognize the dock. After an hour of trying I went online to Sony's support chat. I spend another hour online with a tech trying everything but nothing worked. It just would not see the device at all. I asked if there are any known problems and was told, No. The Sony tech concluded that 'we tried everything so it must be broken you can send in your (new) dock for repair'. I simply returned it. Now, it is easy to conclude that either I got a bad one or my phone is at fault the BT on my phone works as I have two other BT devices I use with it and my laptop could not see it it either.

Anyway, I returned the unit and decided not to get a replacement because I then went out to not one, but two, Best Buy stores to test their demo units. At my local store the same thing, my iPhone 3GS could not see/discover the dock but it did pick up five other bluetooth devices in range. I found one of the sales reps and asked him to try it with his iphone and his would not see it either (I think but I am not 100% sure his was a iPhone 4). I then went to another Best Buy store the next day to try it again and as I was taking out my iPhone a sales rep walked by and said, "Oh, it won't work with that phone". I tried it anyway and my phone noticed a bunch of other BT devices in range but couldn't see the Sony.

Bottom line, this is a wonderful speaker dock but it may or may not work with your phone/ipad/laptop. I strongly recommend that before purchasing that you go to a local store that has one to play with, like a Best Buy, and try it out first. If it works with BT then play a few tunes to test our the sound make sure you press the Mega Boost button for a deeper bass. Sound is great and aside from the potential BT problem my only other nit is the same as the first reviewer there is no way to see the volume setting just a On/Off light and the Bluetooth Light.

Okay, you've been warned so try before you buy. Sony claims there are no known issues and the instructions state compatible with my phone but it wasn't, and I tried three units. If you own or have tried one and it works please add a comment to this review to help out others. In the meantime I has a LG LSB316 Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer (see my review) which has BT streaming so I am simply using that in my living room to stream music a very cost effective solution.

Edited to add In the end I decided to purchase the Altec Lansing M650 Speaker System. This system does not include bluetooth but it does include a dedicated subwoofer and a remote with plenty of options. The sound is exceptionally full, partly due to the subwoofer (instead of a Mega Boost setting to amplify bass) plus the twin 3" drivers. I think this model sounds better than the Sony but the Sony is no slouch and offers the convenience of bluetooth. I have used it for two months with no regrets

I'm a former DJ and something of a minor audiophile. I received a small catalog from which I could select an Holiday/Christmas gift from my place of employment; the choices were nice but I didn't really need anything offered. I finally decided on these speakers because I knew I'd at least use them and I've had really good luck with just about everything Sony I have ever purchased. Most of my music is called Florida/Funky Breaks and Electro-Bass, which grew out of a genre called Miami Bass. As the names hint, these types of dance music carry an incredibly heavy load of low end spectrum waves. Any of the aforementioned genres can VERY easily overload or completely fall below the frequency ranges of low or mid grade speakers. I had a very small/modest pair of portable speakers I used for my ipod that never did my bass rich music any justice. I was fine with that because I mostly listened to podcasts on the speakers while cleaning, opting instead to invest in super-high end headphones for my computer and running.

This turned out to totally be a wonderful gift. I thought I was getting something superfluous but I'm totally in love with these speakers. Unlike other reviewers, I've had zero problems connecting bluetooth from my Macbook, my phone, or my iPod to them. As long as I stay in the same room I don't get audio drop-outs. The bass is all there with a decent amount of power behind it. It's not a club system but it would be fine cranked up, even at a noisy house party. The highs are quite crisp and clear. At least with Electronic Dance Music, the processors equalize the sound pretty close to how I would adjust it if I were spinning the tracks live.

I had a Bose Sounddock a few years ago, I can't remember which model, but it was several hundred dollars when I bought it. Is the sound on the as good on these speakers? No, but it's damn close. The biggest difference is the Bose had a tiny bit more power behind the bass and richer reverb on the high-end frequencies. These speakers have a some of that effect, but it doesn't feel quite as deep. In simpler terms, Bose really made the sound expansive, as if you were listening to it in a large concert hall designed from the ground up with nothing but acoustics in mind.

However, if most of your music is in MP3 or from the iTunes store, that effect would be noticeably less dramatic anyways. Given the massive price difference, I would actually recommend these speakers over the Bose (though if money really isn't an object, I'd probably go for Bose). Compared to other sound docks I've heard at a similar price point, these blow all of them away.

For daily, run of the mill, bedroom dancing or head-banging while mopping, this will far surpass your needs and expectations. They would easily fill a garage/rec room or pool patio area when turned up. I really wish it came with a rechargeable battery though. That's my 1 biggest gripe. I am way more in-love with the bluetooth thing than I ever imagined. I have about 8 male-to-male cords around my apartment so it's not like I ever had any trouble hooking in my various devices before. However, once you have the bluetooth up and running you may want to run around screaming "OMG IT'S PLAYING MUSIC BY VOODOO AND IT'S AWESOME!!!!!!" I'm fully aware of how bluetooth protocol works, but that doesn't lessen the fact that MAGICAL DEMONS ARE TRANSPORTING MY MUSIC ON INVISIBLE PIXIES TO THE SPEAKERS!

Another suggestion would be a small screen to manage multiple connected devices. It's not that lacking this detracts from the unit functionality, but adding it would make it that much cooler.

Most buyers will compare this Sony 20W + 20W output iPod docking station to competitors from BOSE or Altec; for overall quality-for-the-price the Sony is a star buy.

The BOSE system might have slightly richer sound in the higher frequencies for an obsessive audiophile. What you get with this Sony RDP-X60iP is a beautifully designed, quality unit at half the price (or less) with good sound through all frequencies, particularly strong in delivering deep bass with a `Mega Bass' function to accentuate low frequencies even more. The sound easily fills a large room and can be clearly heard throughout a medium-sized house, though won't be enough for a house party if you want it loud.

Set-up is easy: very intuitive, requires no instructions (though they are provided for technophobes) and only takes a few minutes. The iPod slots right into the mount; alternative inserts are supplied for different models and a simple lightweight remote control works perfectly, first time. It's compact and stylish and looks the business on any desk or shelf.

There is a Bluetooth function if you want to keep the speakers separate from the iPod, though I personally have not used this feature and some buyers report problems with it, especially with the iPhone.

In summary: fabulous sound with very strong bass delivery, easy set-up, compact, quality feel, nice design, very good value. The only minor gripe might be that there is no volume indicator; but you'll know when it's loud enough by listening. In short: a winner, highly recommended.

We've had this system, expanded to 10 handsets, for 6 months. When our old phones and baby monitor died I wanted to buy a new set that could double as an intercom system and baby monitor, both of which are features advertised with this system. I found to my regret that this is a decent expandable system, but does not live up to its promise regarding advanced features.

PROS:

Expands to 10 handsets fine. The extra regular handsets interchange with the original chargers fine. Only the 2 waterproof handsets have to use their different base.

Voice mail indicator light on the top of each handset works with the phone company's indicator tone (i.e. stutter dial tone).

Dedicated voice mail button can be programmed to dial your retrieval phone number & code for one touch message retrieval.

Each handset has a number (based on the order in which you register them with the base) and a nickname. When you turn on room monitoring or intercom, it gives you the list in numeric order to scroll through, but also shows you the nicknames ("Kitchen", "Johns Room", etc.).

Redial has the last 3 numbers dialed, not just the last 1.

Good backlighting shows up in the dark.

CONS:

None of the bases are wall mountable.

Each handset must be configured individually. The phone book can be entered on one then told to copy to each of the others (one at a time). All other features including speed dial settings, voice mail key, ring tones, etc. have to be set on each handset.

Ring tone choices are poor, and grating. There are no remotely "normal" ring tones that are not either gratingly high pitched and metallic, or too soft to be heard. We resorted to the musical tunes but the handsets don't ring at the same time, so it's still a cacaphony.

The intercom feature has it's own painful ringtone that can't be changed.

The "intercom" is more accurately termed "in house calling". The receiving handset rings, and a person must pick it up and answer it. There's no way to make it automatically go to speakerphone. So if the kids choose not to answer the phone, you can't just tell them to come downstairs to dinner anyway. So much for our plan to quit shouting up the stairs! There is one brand that works the "correct" way. Unfortunately, I forgot which it was, since I ran out of time and motivation to package up 10 Unidens and send them back in order to by the other system.

Speakerphone won't turn on until after a few rings when calling out. You can't turn on speakerphone then dial. Our old AT&T 2 handset system allowed us to hit the speaker button to get a dialtone, then dial the #.

Speakerphone volume max is low; it's borderline if you're using the room monitoring feature for listening to a sleeping baby.

When room monitoring is on you cannot make or receive calls. When there is an incoming call you'll get one odd tone, then you have to quickly turn of monitoring and then answer the call.

Handsets cannot be used as monitoring receivers (the listening end) while on the base. So they have to be well charged ahead of time, and may not make it through the night.

Recommendation: All of the manufacturers have their user manuals online. Before buying a system, download the manual and read through the details of how the features work. If I had done that, I would not have purchased this phone.

I had a pair of GE phones and after two years, the LCD display started to disappear. So inititially I replaced them with Motorola's. HUGE mistake!

They were complicated to use, sound wasn't very good, and my family hated them. So, I returned them and bought these Uniden's. They are fantastic!

Easy to use, great feel, many features, reasonable. The only knock on them, is that for a 5.8 Ghz phone, the range is not impressive AT ALL! I had better range with my GE 2.4Ghz phones! I have my "home base" in the kitchen, and when I am a short distance away, in our family room in the lower level, there is QUITE a bit of static that is heard on BOTH ends.

There are several companies making alarm clock/speaker docks for the Apple iPod/iPhone lines. I have two, the XtremeMac Luna Voyager and this iHome iP16GXC. Both provide a docking port for the iPod/iPhone on the top panel. Both then sync with the device so as to display the time. The XtremeMac, which is just a few dollars less expensive than the iHome model, has a blue florescent digit display for the clock while the iHome has a backlit LCD display. While the XtremeMac looks cooler, the iHome is actually more legible from a distance and easier to read at a glance.

Both, at the touch of a button, start playing music from the content of the iDevice. The iDevice is then accessed to change songs. Volume is adjusted from the iHome. Both units have an alarm clock capability, with the iPod/iPhone utilized for the musical accompaniment.

The big difference in the two units, beyond their appearance, is in sound quality. Both units are small, with similarly small speakers. The iHome, however, has markedly better stereo separation as well as bass level. When I first listened to the XtremeMac, I thought there was only a single speaker. The iHome's stereo reproduction is clearly superior. Vocals have greater clarity with the iHome as well. The speakers of the XtremeMac are built into the unit, out of harm's way, and this is advantageous in a dusty environment or one in which small children might poke and prod at the unit. On the iHome, the speaker domes are out in the open at the end of the unit. They can be easily damaged if poked. Obviously, one of the advantages of this design is the improvement in sound quality, but there is the disadvantage as well of potential damage.

The iHome has a watch-type battery to hold time if the power goes out. It takes four AA batteries if portability is desired away from an AC line while still using the built in speakers and amplifier.

My vote goes to the iHome for producing a highly portable, easy to read, and clear sounding stereo amplifier for the iThings. I tested it with the original iPhone, the iPhone3GS, and the iPhone4 (ATT) and had no problems with any of these sources.

I liked this product except for the fact that you have to take your case off to get it to fit into the notch at the top. I tried the thinnest case I have and it was still too thick. Apparently they sized it so it fits a naked iphone only. I have a 3gs, so I don't know ahout the iphone 4, but I'd be hesitant if you're a lover of cases.

This is a dock for the the ipod, ipod touch, and iphone. I use it with my 2nd genreation touch and it works well. It doesn't work as an alarm clock without an ipod/iphone product. You place the iphone/ipod in the dock, there are adapters provided with it. Once the ipod/iphone is in the dock you can set the alarm on the dock or the phone. It will awaken you to a buzzer or to your music. There is a snooze. You can also use it as speakers and just listen. I use it at night to listen to the white noise application I have on my ipod touch. It has a timer and will turn off at the interval you set. The sound isn't stero quality but it is ok to listen to for general purposes.

Pros:

Adapters are provided for ipone/ipod products

Clock stays accurate, is easy to set

Alarm is easy to set and easy to turn off in mornig

The product works as stated. It is great to travel with. If you do not have mini speakers for your Ipod or Iphone, then this works well. It doubles as an alarm clock, but it does not have a radio. Not does it advertise as having one. The sound is good especially listening to audio books, but is weak as a stereo. The Bose Portable Sound Dock fits that bill, but much more expensive.

Since the Ipod stands in it, it is somewhat protected by the Ihome's body. This makes it somewhat better than other speakers or alarm clocks where they just have a wire to plug into the Ipod, and it rests on a table or something else external to the speakers.

We love music and like to have the ability to play it in every room of the house. The living/dining/kitchen area was the one room without a reliable solution. We needed something that would carry the music clearly throughout the room (a space of just over 400 square feet) and would work with iPods of various sizes. This iHome system has been a perfect solution.

Pros:

The sound easily and clearly carries through the room without forcing us to maximize the volume. In fact, the volume can even be turned low for a great background music option, while still providing sufficient clarity for our purposes. While I might not necessarily call the sound "astounding" as mentioned in the technical details, I would definitely rate it as good quality for a speaker system in this price range.

We have run this system all day nearly every day since receiving it a little over two weeks ago. Whichever iPod we have used in it has been nicely charged and has maintained full charge whenever it has been placed in the dock.

The size allows a great deal of flexibility in placement, which has proven exceedingly useful.

The alarm works wonderfully, with the ascending volume option and a reliable snooze.

Cons:

Every now and then, the music skips. It's never more than a second, if that long, and it doesn't happen very often at all. It is simply something worth mentioning, even though it is a practically negligible issue.

I wish the system had a protective case for portability, since it does claim to be portable. I would be uncomfortable packing it in a bag with other items.

Neither of these things, however, lead me to drop the system from a five-star rating. We've been very pleased.

This is a great gadget. But... Unfortunately the 3.5mm Plugin does not plug into my LG Revolution. But it works fine with the Iphone or I assume most other phones... It may just be my phones design. That is a major setback for myself. I had to buy an "extension chord" so that it could plug into my phone without falling out every time the phone is nudged minutely. IF it fit my phone I would rate this product at the 5 star... But unfortunately it is not compatible with my LG Revolution.
