I bought this radio for my 1973 F-250 Highboy. The dash had not been cut, thankfully, and so I decided to go with a vintage style radio. After much searching and price checking, I found this deal to be the best! (The same exact radio through one of the magazines was almost $100 more!) Upon ordering it, I received a phone call from the seller, asking for the specific make and model info. I received the radio quicker than expected, and its absolutely beautiful! The only thing I dislike is that on the screen it has the lines for the old dial types, but since this is digital you dont need them (just for looks), and it makes the screen a little harder to see. I wouldnt by any means hold that against it though! I would reccomend this product to anyone looking for that vintage look, but wanting AUX plugs that new stereos have... without cutting your dash!

I am very pleased with this unit for the price, but that is because I am not using the speakers that came with it. I was looking for an inexpensive compact receiver, but it was less expensive to buy one that included speakers than to buy a stand-alone receiver. I am using this system in my kitchen and have the receiver tucked away in a cupboard, which works well.

The speakers that are included are not very good, even considering the price. But I did not need them because I have some spare speakers that are pretty good. The FX-3001 receiver drives them just fine (entry level B&W bookshelf speakers).

In terms of features, it has what I was looking for--CD/FM/ipod doc. The remote works the iPod Nano 5G pretty well. My only complaint is that it does not have the ability to "finger scroll" so it still requires manual fiddling with the Nano to access those functions.

The FM reception is adequate with the unipole antennae (as long as it is stretched out straight (about 3 feet). I haven't used the CD because the primary sources will be FM and the iPod.

I did choose this for its sound quality it is small and gives a small hometheater effect. Could have been more smaller ..

I bought this as I also wanted/needed the radio component. The iPod functions and sound are OK, but the radio settings and controls are a total misery. They are complex and easily lose their settings. I'm frustrated every time I try to use this for anything other than a dock for my iPod.

I bought this to replace an old Sony boombox. Its sound is better, not up to higher quality setups, but it didn't cost as much, either. Better speakers may have helped, these are small. At times the unit has a tinny sound to me, even when playing around with the equilizer, which is controlled on the remote, by the way. The FM wire doesn't seem to pick up stations very well even stretched out, I'll need to get a better wire or play around with it more. I like it, but do feel it's a bit overpriced compared with what one could get for $100 a few years back. Programming the FM pre-sets took a while as well. Have your magnifying glass when you do to read the sheet. Or maybe it's just me.

Pros:

Has great big LED display that is easy to read from across the room. To make it better, it has a LED projection so the time is projected on the ceiling and can be seen while laying down on my bed. Fm/Am radio function is great for listening to music before bed when combined with the sleep function. Aux input is great option for people that prefer there own music over the radio. Is much better then any clock i would be able to pick up from my local store for the same price.

Cons:

The antenna doesn't seem to get great signal however, but that could just be due to its location in my house. On the unit that i was given the Fm/Am tuner digital display is off by .1 so if you want to listen to 93.3 Fm, you would set the radio to 93.4 Fm. Also while listening to Am/Fm radio the current station is displayed instead of the time, if you want to see the time you push down the time button and it is only displayed while the button is being held down. This gets very annoying very fast. When a Aux device is plugged into the input the time is displayed constantly however. When a device is plugged into the input you cannot use the Fm/Am function, it can get annoying having to reach over and unplug or plug in the Aux device when you want to switch between Am/Fm and Aux. I would rate the sound quality of the speakers a 3/5, you can listen to your music and understand everything but the quality overall is not the best in the world. The Led projection, while physically connected, is a separate clock and must be set separately set from the unit. The time on the unit cannot be set while a Aux device is plugged in. Both the unit and the Projection are only 12 hour format, so those wanting military (24 hour) format are out of luck.

This is a great clock to purchase. I love the ceiling projection option. It has a large main display for easy viewing from multiple angles. The projection option is easy to use and read. The blue LED light is a great color and the main reason I purchased this clock. The only con I have is the brightness of the main display. It is a little too bright. If I could add a option to make this the perfect clock and a great price would be a variable brightness setting for night display. Other than that is is the perfect alarm clock.

This is actually two clock products in one -they share only a power supply -and you have to program each with its own time setting. The result has been that the dial clock and the projection clock are out of phase by a minute most of the time. So there is that continuous annoyance...

The projection clock is not very flexible with regards to the direction of projection -it will only swing through an arc perpendicular to the long top of the main clock. This means a serious limitation on placement of the main clock.

The cheap plastic focus wheel on the projection clock [at least in the unit received] is inadequate -when the left side [hour] is clear, the right side [minutes] are quite blurry or vice versa. The compromise is having the whole image blurry and unreadable without glasses by one of us.

Customer support, by e-mail, was unresponsive to the focus issue.

This was a waste of money for me.

I replaced it with the Magnasonic MAG-MM176K AM/FM Projection Clock Radio -a much more useful and easy to use product!

The features of this product are great...the problem is the clock constantly freezes and/or locks up. Twice the alarm did not go off because the clock had frozen. I returned the product for a replacement thinking maybe I got a dud. Well the replacement does the same thing. So I emailed the company to see what could be done. Three suggestions were given:

1. Make sure you are using the iPhone dock adapter (well duh)

2. Turn the power off before inserting the phone (well ok but not sure how this would help the clock freezing in the future...it wasn't freezing when I was putting the phone in).

3. Power cycle the clock to reset...(ok I do this EVERY time it freezes).

So bottom line works great to listen to music...but if you need a clock or an alarm (which is probably why you are looking at an ALARM CLOCK) then this is unreliable and completely useless...just like the company's support.

I was afraid that the iLuv Dual Dock would be too large for my end-table but it is the perfect size. I was also relieved to confirm that both docks will play and charge the 3G iPhone and newest iPods. The build quality is very high and the glossy plastic looks great but it is also a fingerprint magnet and hard to keep clean.

The reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because I disagree with the other two reviews before mine that state that the sound quality was great. I think it sounds rather poor. I would rate the sound a 3 out of 5 at best. If I was using this for listening to music I'd send it back. It sound nothing even close to the Bose and Altec-Lansing iPod speakers i've listened to. Luckily I'm only using it as a clock, alarm and for listening to podcasts.

Note: It also comes with a nice remote that attaches to the back with a built in magnet.

Since posting the review I've had the iLuv "crash", "lock up", "freeze" a few times. I need to be able to rely on my alarm and this is a real problem. The clock stays showing the time of the crash and all buttons stop functinoing. I have to power cycle the clock to get it going again. I'm going to call iLuv and see what they can do for me.

I, like others that have mentioned so here, had a lot of problems with my original unit. It constantly froze when I connected my iPhone3G, or I would get the dreaded "Accessory not compatible" message on my iPhone screen. I put up with this for about a week before I contacted iLuv about the problem(s).

To their credit, they handled the issue very professionally. iLuv/jWin utilizes an online-only support system, which I was a little sceptical about at first. When it comes to product support and returns, I would usually rather speak with a live person. However, the iLuv system is more like a blog where you can log in and see the status/comments associated with your trouble ticket, and any questions or comments I had were always answered within an hour. Not bad at all.

What ended up happening is that iLuv sent me a brand new updated unit that was labeled as "Version 1.1" (and even had a new "Time Sync" feature that keeps the time between your phone and clock synced at all times very handy. I didn't even have to set the clock initially it just took the time from the phone). The end result is that I have had the new unit for a week now and not one issue. The bottom line if you are having problems, contact iLuv. If you have version 1.0 of the product and are having problems with the iPhone3G, they will make it right.

This thing sounds great. Works with Pandora streaming thru your 3G or home network to produce great sound. AUX jack out and in is nice too. Charges my iphone perfectly and I really like the radio alarm clock as the sound starts low and then goes higher. PROBLEM is the light. Even at the lowest level it puts off more light than I want. You can however turn the light totally off but then you have to touch the radio to see the time at 3 AM. Easy fix with some window tinting from Lowe's. The light probably won't bother most b/c there are 10 light settings so it's basically a flashlight at the highest level. But if you like cave darkness you'll have to make some adjustments. Other than the light this thing is a great little radio to have in any room and the speakers fill the room enough to listen to morning podcasts or radio/ipod/pandora. You won't be dissappointed!

I too, like many of the previous reviewers, was unlucky enough to get stuck with the very buggy, freeze-prone, Ver. 1.0 unit. You must contact customer support through their web-site, trying to reach them by phone is futile. Instead of being able to speak to a live person and get the exchange process handled quickly, you are forced to endure endless blog-type messages back and forth with customer "service." As I write, I have now spent over two hours trying to simply arrange an exchange of the unit. Perhaps I will get a replacement someday and that will be nice but this was definitely NOT worth the hassle. There are better units out there.

I am pretty tech-savvy but I find the controls on this unit very un-intuitive. I am constantly reviewing the very-hard-to-read instruction booklet just to remember how to select presets or set the alarm.

Really the only good thing I can say about this clock is that it can dock two ipods and it has a big, easy to read display.

Update Feb. 6: Received the new replacement unit today. Unfortunately they mistakenly sent me the old version 1.0 in a new version 1.1 box. So now I get to return two units.

Update Feb. 11: Finally got version 1.1. Now the unit works as it should, no freezing up, time syncs when you put iPhone in the dock. I still wouldn't go through this hassle again. Hard to get in touch with customer service.

Creative Zen Stone Plus 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)

I bought the first Stone and loved it. The folder skip switch was one of the coolest things about the ipod shuffle killer. But then Creative decided to try and one up themselves. So starting from my favorite feature I'll outline the changes.

That folder switch had to be dropped for the Plus. Instead Play and a Shortcut button (for switching to a favorite mode quickly) is put in it's place. Now the center button on the face of the player acts as a context sensitive select/menu button.

The added FM radio, Voice Recorder, and Stop Watch are pretty basic and get the job done. Nothing to write home about and as far as extras go, they may have their use here and there (a lot more useful than the iPod Shuffle).

The music player portion is where Creative got lazy and lose a star. Hot off the intuitive heels of the Stone, Creative manages to drop the ball an d produce one crappy interface. Getting through the main menus is easy enough on the player, clicking the center button once brings you to the menu where you go through the functions and holding it down brings you to the menu for the current function you are using.

That's not so bad. Just takes a little getting used to. What is bad however, is that you can't browse your folders. Huh? Yeah that's right. You just pick folders, not songs within folders. What hurts even more is that the only folders that are shown are the ones with audio files in them! So kiss your file tree goodbye. Creative just prunes it. Another oddity to note is that the MP3 player has it's own weird auto-hold function after the screen fades out. You'll have to tap a button to wake it up, then tap whatever you wanted to actually tap. This can be even more nerve wrecking than going through the music.

Outside of how music organization is handled (and the lack of play lists), the new Stone Plus isn't so bad for the price. The added screen is clear and easy to read and a definite must for the added gigabyte of space on this tiny MP3 player. And the audio quality is just fine. Not perfect but pretty good for something this size.

The first Stone (and Sansa Express) already gave ample reasons to not buy an iPod Shuffle. This is just another nail in the Shuffle's coffin (I consider the iRiver S10 to be the dirt that goes on top of the coffin). So go get one already.

When searching for an MP3 player I was going to use primarily for books on tape the pause feature was important to me. I did not however find the product descriptions or very many reviews that answered my questions regarding this feature. I bought this Stone Plus and hopped it would do what I wanted. It does.

I can pause mid story and let it power down on its own then when I power back up later it starts up where it left off. I can pause and change to the radio feature and when I swich back it starts where it left off again. If I hit pause and change to a different saved song it does not come back and play where it left off and I have to search for the chapter I was in and start that chapter from the beginning.

I hope this helps anyone else researching these features.

Creative's Zen Stone line was meant to be the upgrade to the Zen nano, aka Muvo mini. Unfortunately, the 1GB Zen Stone had some quality issues. With the new 2GB Zen Stone Plus, Creative has tried to improve on previous models and compete with the Sandisk Sansas.

I love the new Sandisk Sansa's. The Sansa Express has the advantage that you can plug it directly into your USB port without a cable. SanDisk Sansa Express 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) Still, the Creative Zen Stone feels nicer in the hand. It's not as sleek as the Sansa Express and doesn't have all the cool cache' of an iPod shuffle or iPod nano. But it is priced very attractively and has some NICE features. It's good for a starter, workout unit, or gift for a kid.

The Creative Zen Stone Plus is lighter than the competition, but is still larger than the new iPod Shuffle 2nd and 3rd generations. Unlike the shuffle, you can actually see your track names! The OLED screen is perfect for a player this size but does suck more power and shorten the battery life.

The controls are an improvement from the Zen nano days. While I didn't mind the toggle wheel, it has been replaced by intuitive buttons for the standard functions (select, up, down, play, pause, forward or reverse). There's a headphone jack, microphone hole, and a USB port.

Another change from the Zen nano days is the Lithium Ion battery, which gives you about 10 hours if your lucky. This is less versatile than the old battery operated unit, but more convenient.

What about sound? The sound is great, and it comes through in pure stereo. As usual, you will hear complaints about the earbuds. Most people replace their standard earbuds so I won't hold that against Creative.

The Zen Stone doesn't have larger storage options. For those needing more space, you will have to explore the Creative Zen, Sandisk Sansa or new iPod Nano. All of those units have higher price tags.

I have a 30 gb ipod, and have had several mp3 players before. This 2 gb device was purchased for my jogs. It performs wonderfully. There is a short learning curve to organizing songs into folders, but I love the sound and the tiny featherweight package is easy to carry about. The radio is not as good as the one on my old iaudio, but still it picks up the local stations well enough. If the radio were a bit stronger, it would get 5 stars. Highly recommended for joggers.

After using a bargain bin MP3 player for nearly a year, and upgrading earbuds to something that plays bass frequencies, I decided that I needed a player that can put out better sound.

Since I didn't need to watch movies or view pictures, but still liked the idea of seeing what song is playing, the creative zen stone PLUS with an OLED screen seemed perfect.

I used to own an iPod 2G Shuffle, but I didn't like how I could always hear a some distortion/nastiness on loud drum hits, etc and "hissing" through the headphones made by the player itself which ruined the quiet parts of some songs for me, I was disappointed with the sound.

After using the Zen Stone Plus a few months I think its a great player that does it's job decently.

PROS:

*Greatest sounding MP3 player I've used to date, I think my current earbuds are the only thing holding back better sound now

*Charges fast, if its charging really slow the USB slot you're using probably isn't putting out very much voltage for some reason

*No "hissing" or noises made by the player (fits in with sound quality)

*Decent volume for something so small

*Great OLED screen, very clear, perfect for viewing a song. On a side note the blue backlight makes a cool effect when you shake it.

*You can browse through menus and change options while your music plays

*No software required...functions as a 2gb flash drive

*Loads the next song very fast, no delay like on some players.

*Lots of features like microphone, FM radio (with stereo), timer, clock that the iPod shuffle doesn't have.

Its a nice player, but of course there are some things that make it a little bit less than 100% perfect:

CONS:

*Battery goes dead/almost dead after about a week without being used, even after being charged to 100% and with the "clock" option turned off which would probably make this problem even worse. If Li-On batteries are at 0% for too long it will have a very bad effect and they will never again hold charge as well as they did new, and if the battery goes bad you have to buy a whole new player.

*Mine lost alot of it's shinyness after only 4 days where it spent most of it's time in my pocket.

*A clip like on the iPod shuffle 2G would be nice and would probably give people more reason to choose creative instead of the apple which has a big advantage thru popularity.

*Menu-navigation speed can be somewhat laggy

*Stock earbuds look nice but just don't sound that good, then again I am someone who needs perfect sound. Alrite for average listner/backups.

*Gets a bit warm when charging (hot temperatures aren't good for lithium ion batteries...especially when you can't replace them), probably not hot enough to cause any damage though.

*USB 2.0 compatible but USB 1.1 transfer speeds...about 1.5 megabytes of data a second for putting new songs/files. But once the music/file is on there, read speeds are perfectly fine.

***Recently after not having used the player for awhile, I tried to turn it on only for it to get stuck on the Creative logo. It wouldn't respond so I hit the reset button a few times, without success. I thought maybe it didn't have enough juice to load, so I plugged it into my PC to charge and upload new songs. When I tried to access the device the window froze

F:/ The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

...my first thoughts were the flash chip had magically corrupted/broken itself? It was fine the last time I used it. I tried to format the player only to have the window freeze again just from right-clicking on the player's icon. I eventually resorted to plugging it into a computer with OS X and all my files were gone from the memory.

Finally after using "erase" with disk utility.app (same thing as format) the device was revived. I don't know what could have caused this, and if someone clueless would have had this problem, the player might have ended up in the trash or sent in for repairs. The creative support website has good help walkthroughs and instructs on how to format when you choose "transfer problem", but the window kept freezing before I could proceed. I just hope it doesn't do this again and refuse to be revived... only defective flash chips corrupt themselves, I hope it was just a fluke. Looking back, formatting from the command line on PC might have fixed it.

In conclusion I think its an attractive player with many more features and louder volume output than apple's 2G shuffle (it's competitor) if you don't mind the cons.

This is small, but very attractive and sleek. I like that. However, it doesn't come with a power cord (you must use batteries; not included) and it isn't set up for an actual iPod, but rather has the headphone like jack for universal mp3 players. Therefore, my iPod doesn't sit up very well in the top opening. Also, the blue light on the clock face is super bright, so plan to be using the on/off switch on the back constantly as the dial will not completely turn the unit off. This is okay for the price and has acceptable sound, but you get what you pay for!

A good product for the price. A little smaller than I expected but still good. Sound quality is good, and (to my surprise) the alarm is great. The light can get a bit annoying but is pretty easy to turn off. It should be know this is NOT a dock, it just has a headphone output, so it works with anything with a headphone input. Again a great product for a good price.

I have a 35 year old Zenith clock radio. I told myself that someday, if this clock radio ever died, I will spoil myself and buy a Bose wave radio to replace it. Alas, that day has arrived. I went online to order my Bose wave, and learned that some IDIOT at Bose had decided it would be a good idea to eliminate all the control buttons from the unit, and control everything from a tiny little remote! This does not make the wave a good choice for use as a bedside alarm clock. Imagine trying to find which microscopic button to push to silence the alarm while you are half asleep! Nice going Bose you just lost a sale!

Thus began my search for a replacement. I did not find anything at the local big box stores that did not look and sound cheap. Another big factor for me was the brightness of the display. Most are too bright for me even with a dimmer function. I found this Yamaha on Amazon, and seemed a viable alternative to the Bose, so I decided to take a chance and order it. The only hesitation I had was that I could not determine if this unit had a battery back-up for the clock. I even went to Yamaha's website for this info, but could not find it there either. Apparently, there is some kind of backup system, as the instructions state the time information will be lost if unplugged for more than one week. It must have an internal capacitor of some sort I'm guessing.

The sound is impressive! I do not own an Ipod, but I would imagine the sound quality would be even better from that source than that of the radio. It is hard to imagine the sound quality that comes out of such a small package. My wife made the comment that it sounds better than the stereo we also have in the bedroom! This unit is much smaller than I imagined, but this is a good thing. It does not take up a lot of space on my nightstand. The display brightness is adjustable, and is perfect for me on the lowest setting. It has an automatic setting that self adjusts to ambient room light, and is very legible at all settings.

Overall, I am very pleased and impressed with this system. I hope it serves me as well as my old Zenith did.

Sounds GREAT for something this size. Adjustable base and treble, deep base, easy to use, excellent build and quality, the snooze bottom is not too terribly close to any button that would turn off the alarm, nice features on the remote unit and it looks awesome. The "alarm" button is fairly close to the snooze and will disarm the alarm if pushed by mistake, but the snooze is right in the middle and fair size, so I think the placement is acceptable.

It is also much smaller than I expected and takes up less space on my nightstand than I thought it would.

FYI-I have an iPhone 4 and this charges and plays perfectly. There is no message that comes up when it is docked stating that this device was not made for iPhone............Also, there is zero GSM interface. You do not need to put your iPhone 4 into airplane mode. This unit works perfect for the iPhone!

The dimmer goes pretty dim, but I think many would like just one step dimmer.

My major complaint would be the lack of a backup battery and not being able to sleep to selected iPhone music and wake to a different track. If you use the sleep timer to go to sleep at night, that same track will be used as the alarm track, as the unit will only use the last song listened to as the wake up track. I listen to quiet relaxing music to fall asleep and need a different song to wake to. So, I need to select the buzzer and miss out on being able to wake to a select track on my iPhone.

The critical thing missing is a backup battery. There is a built-in battery that will save the time setting if you unplug it, but it will only save the time setting and the alarm will NOT sound if the unit loses power. I think this is a major mistake. I need the peace of mind of a full backup battery so I know the alarm will sound in the event of a power failure.

I also searched and searched for iPhone and iPod adapters in the box and then realized that the unit does not come with any. This is fine, but there is a large gap behind my iPhone which allows the iPhone or iPod to be pushed backwards when you push on the screen.

Overall, this is a great unit, but I will be returning it for the negatives that I pointed out. These missing features may not be important to you. If you do not care about the lack of a backup battery or being able to pick different tracks for sleep and wake, then I would highly recommend this unit.

I ordered this to replace a Tivoli Model One that I enjoyed for over 10 years. Over time the radios reception deteriorated, and having to plug and unplug the aux cable over and over became a drag. The Yamaha sounds as good, maybe better then the Tivoli which is saying a lot. It fills the room (kitchen and dining area) with music.The tuner's very strong. Having a remote is nice. The tone control on the back is to adjust the amount of bass boost. For instance, when I'm listening to a podcast of people talking, I turn it all the way down to eliminate any boominess. All the control knobs have a very nice, quality feel to them. Most of the top buttons are lighted. I couldn't ask more from such a compact radio. Finding great sound in a small package with AM-FM and a ipod dock was a tough combination. I've been shopping for over a year so you can imagine how many I've looked at and listened to. As a bonus I really like the semi-retro look. The more I use it the better I like it. A bit pricey, but money well spent !!!

The pros: Beautiful retro design and cool case, amber display is just perfect, great sound at low to mid volumes, dimmable lights, works seamlessly with ipod/iphone and charges them (I used iPhone 4) and is high quality. Far better sound than most alarm clock iphone docks.

Cons: Alarm sound is pretty annoying. Sure, alarms are always annoying but this sound really grated my nerves. I found the snooze difficult to locate and press in my morning stupor. It does have the option to wake to music, but only to whatever you were listening to last. Sound quality fades fast at higher volume levels.

As for sound quality, I think it really does sound great at modest volume levels. It has a 2.1 speaker system, meaning 2 speakers plus a little subwoofer on the bottom. Now, it's not going to shake the floor but the the 2.1 system is actually quite good. I think there is a crossover system so the 2 (also tiny) main speakers only get mid and high frequencies so they sound crisp and clear. The lows all come from the little sub which fills out the music nicely. You can feel air moving from the sub. Again, not great bass but really clean, clear sound. I liked the sound quality a lot for an alarm clock/desktop system. This system pushes relatively little power (I think 5 watts per channel?) so when you turn it up loud sound quality drops off quickly, but generally that doesn't happen until you turn it up to volumes that adults wouldn't "normally" listen at anyway.

In full disclosure My old sony alarm clock died and I wanted a Yamaha to replace it. I had bought the Yamaha 120 for a really reasonable $180 at a local store the same day my wife ordered this one for me. I spent a few days comparing them and was honestly really liking both of them. This one looks much better, smaller size fits better on the nightstand, the display is much nicer, and the sound is good, but the 120 ended up the winner. The 120 is more customizable, several alarms sounds to choose from plus you can control the volume of the alarm. The 120 also allows you to make a playlist to wake to. The 120's time display is much smaller and hard to read at night but it does contain much more information. The 120 also sounds significantly better at higher volumes because it has more power and bigger speakers but they both sounded great at lower volume. It was a really tough decision. I'm sure if I would have been very happy with either.

This is perhaps the best purchase I've made for a while, it has truly impressed me. I've alway been a fan of Yamaha products, and I'm not disappointed. This little unit produces very full sound for something it's size. The QBass is really just a small woofer and passive radiator on the bottom of the unit, but it works. You can even get it up to pretty good volumes and it still plays clean. I'm not going to say the sound compares to my Paradigm Reference/Anthem system, but that cost 5 digits. For the price this is selling at it's a steal. Build quality of the unit is great, alarm functions work perfectly and the soft wake up is great.I dock my iPhone 4 on it at night to charge which works great too. One of the biggest problems I've had with bedside radios in the past is the display being too bright. Even ones that dimmed were too bright, but the Yamaha orange display is great, doesn't bother me when I'm trying to sleep, and the auto dimming is even better. For a bedside radio it might seem expensive for some, but the functionality of the unit, the quality of the build, and the quality of the sound totally justify the price. Highly recommended.

A buddy of mine helped me install it but to be honest it wasn't brain surgery. Once we mounted it in, all the wiring ran I could start testing it all out.

Like any stereo, I think there is a teething period of getting to know the settings, buttons, dials or knobs. I'm impatient so this is the hard part for me. Following the instructions, I got my time set, stations programmed (which it has a station programmer like and elephant's brain) and sound balanced. The sound is ample enough for being out on the water. I can have it up where I'm yelling over it but, I'm more about clear, quality sound then loud, which it can do both, I simply prefer music a little on the quieter side.

The controller takes a little of precise aim but otherwise it's fine. The whole unit looks and sounds clean and more expensive than it actually is. I'm very happy to have this installed on my boat.

I bought my Sansa View 16GB two weeks ago and I am mostly satisfied. After downloading the latest firmware (.06A) I found most of the initial quirks have been addressed.

First, you will notice the construction which is very solid and, despite those who think the Sansa View is ugly, I find it elegant. The size is very appropriate, fitting easily in the palm, without feeling huge and not so small you will fumble and drop it (i.e. Zen V!)

Other reviewers have complained about the menu icons......This is really foolish since I did not purchase the View for it's "flashy" icons. Look it...the icons are obvious and glide smoothly along the screen in conjunction with the rotation of the data wheel.

The video functionality is very good. I use a Neuros MPEG Recorder II and it works flawlessly. I have had a bit of trouble with syncing videos with WMP 10, but I would sooner blame Microsoft not the Sansa View.

The downloaded Sansa Media Converter utility is not the best software, taking a long time to transcode files and lacking a lot of file support but I have many applications for this so it's not a problem.

Music files transfer easily with WMP with fast transfer speeds. (USB 2)

It's important, however, to make sure that "one off" downloaded songs and such are properly tagged, otherwise they will end up difficult to find.

The sound quality of the Sansa View is exceptional with no clicking, pops, or distortion. Volume levels are easily able to get above noisy environments, even without isolation type ear buds. The equalizer functions very well and your settings are held in memory.

Building playlists can be done with WMP or simply on the View. Browse your tunes and just press and hold the center function button and the song gets added to the playlist. Unfortunately, only one list can be assembled on the unit, although multiple lists can be imported with WMP.

You can also drag and drop audio and jpeg files right into the Sansa View Explorer pane. Non jpeg photos can be quickly transcoded with the Sansa Media Converter.

The Cons: Presently, there is no audio bookmarking function for long podcast files or audiobooks. (Bookmarking is available for videos)

Some video files within the advertised specs will not play.

Uses a proprietary usb cable

Virtually no cases available as of yet except one DLO case (which I bought) that is "hodge-podgy" and obscures the beauty of the Sansa View.

Although battery life is quite good, it is not as good as advertised.

The battery is not accessible and would require a factory replacement.

Other than these few cons, the Sansa View is a truly exceptional player. I am banking on future Firmware upgrades that allow Audio Bookmarking and better Video File Support, as well as address a few other quirks and stability issues. The hardware is excellent and obviously capable.

Considering prices for the 16GB around $200. (the price of the 8GB Nano) you really cannot go wrong with this device.....and, yes it does support non-DRM AAC files from your present itunes collection.

I'd say....."Buy it!"

I've read some pretty negative reviews about this thing, but now that I own one, I don't know why these people are knockin it. I don't think it is cheaply made, it feels pretty sturdy and it is indeed gorgeous. I didn't really have to read the manual to get this thing to work. I just plugged it into the USB port on my laptop and dragged and dropped my music folders and movies into the device. You don't have to install any drivers to get this thing to work either. I love how it displays the album art. The earbuds it comes with are pretty crappy. I replaced the stock earbuds with a pair of gunmetal black V-MODA Vibe ear canal headphones ($75.00 from Amazon) and this MP3 players sounds pretty damn amazing. People have knocked this thing for poor audio quality. You can't buy a 200 dollar mp3 player and use a pair of cheapo headphones. Buy a decent set and I guarantee you will be impressed with the sound. I am also impressed with the FM Tuner, I'm in Kuwait and it picks up the U.S. military AFN radio network with awesome clarity, my alarm clock radio hardly picks up the signal but my View picks it up perfectly and it sounds great. The voice recorder works and I have fun recording myself saying absolutely ridiculous things. Video looks great as well! I have watched Bruce Almighty on this thing. While the screen size is small, the picture is damn fine! I can't comment on using a music service because I don't use one at all. Inside the package comes with a mini CD that has some Best Buy Music Service on the disk. This is the only thing on the disk, no drivers or anything, junk IMPO. Another thing this player gets knocked for is that it is supposed to have gapless music playback, I really can't tell the difference so this isn't important to me, maybe to some it is, but I haven't really noticed if there is a gap or not. If you have a bunch of DRM protected songs that won't work, I recommend purchasing DRM removal software such as soundtaxi or tunebite which will turn DRM protected music to non protected files. I have used soundtaxi in the past and it works wonderful. To convert DVD's into MP4, I use a program called CuCusoft Ultimate DVD + Video Converter and I make my own MP4 movies which I can then drag and drop into the View itself, again, the videos look amazing. A couple of things worth mentioning. The package does include a quick start guide, but no user manual. Not even on the CD, the user manual must be downloaded from the sandisk website.

I have also spoken with techsupport and they recommend that the optimal video size to use while recording video should be 480x272. I have been using 320x240 so I will start using what they recommend. There is also an unofficial firmware update going around but according to the techsupport person I talked to, they don't recommend using it. I spoke with them on NOV 7, 2007 so if you flash to the new firmware, you do so at your own risk. I will be waiting untill the firmware is officially released on Sandisk's website. Sorry for the rambling, but this is an amazing MP3 player and is worth your consideration. I love mine, and I use it the gym every morning. I had originally purchased one from Amazon but it was backordered untill DEC 1, 2007. Best Buy has them in stock and they are shipping.

If you're looking for a media player (music, video, or other) and don't want to pay out the wazoo for some iThing, then this is you're BEST bet! Not only does it do everything that the Apple Pods do, but it also has FM radio and voice recorder. Also, ya get more GB for your buck. Compared to 8 GB in the Nano, you get double that for the same space, PLUS there's an SD Micro card slot to take that even further! The audio sounds EXCELENT, and you can change the EQ to your preference, not just presets. The video is crystal clear and fluid on a screen larger than the Nano. No squinting on this screen. I don't think I could've asked for anything better that this little player right here. So, if you're wanting to get a Nano or other media player, you need to give this a serious thought.

Let me preface this review by saying that all the necessary legwork needed in order to maximize the use of the Sansa View or any other player that I would have decided to purchase Windows XP updated, WMP 11 updated, all music properly archived, named, categorized, and tagged with album art, and ditto for photos had already been done.

That said, the View gets five stars from me on work ethic alone. All I did was plug it into one of my front USB ports with WMP open and running, and before I even realized what it was doing and stopped it, it had already found ALL my music & pictures without me giving it any direction whatsoever and had synched over 6 gig (more than the entire capacity of my previous player) worth of data...in less than two minutes!

Now, I stopped it because like most people I'm sure, I didn't want to sync everything, nor do I believe everything would have fit on it anyway. But since it was such an eager beaver, I decided to toy around for an evening with what it had already loaded onto the player, and I'm basing much of this review on a comparison to my previous player (Philips GoGear HDD1630, which I still own and still works well...battery power is only half of it's original life though).

The View is the same width as the GoGear, but almost an inch longer and about 1/4" thinner. The screen is more than twice the size of the GoGear, and takes up half of the front of the entire unit. It shows pictures and album art with as much resolution and clarity as any high-end digital camera on the market. Sound quality is superb for both audio files and the FM radio much more volume than the GoGear but without losing any clarity but I actually like the GoGear's earbuds a little better than the ones included with the View. Scroll wheel, menu and enter buttons are all on the face of the device (where they should be), easily accessible from many angles and finger sizes, and properly tuned for sensitivity. Speed of data transfer has already been covered. :-) And after an entire evening of intense scrolling, pressing, skipping, entering and holding, I barely knocked a dent into the battery life.

Menu navigation is a bit clunky and will take some getting used to. I was accustomed to the GoGear's style of menu navigation, and so far I still like it better. If you're accustomed to iPod menu navigation, you'd probably like the View's better. The biggest annoyance so far is that the 'Now Playing' screen will sometimes freeze after returning from the Menu screen, and you can't do anything with the player until it catches up to itself (15-60 sec.). But that may have been entirely due to my trying to do too much too fast.

You'll have to rely on someone else's expertise for the video features. I don't believe I'll ever warm up to the idea of sitting and watching something on a screen this small.

At the time of my writing this review, the 16g View was 30 bucks cheaper than the 6g GoGear when I purchased it in Jan. of '06. But even more impressive is that it's 15 bucks cheaper than an 8g Zune and 10 bucks cheaper than an iPod Nano. You do the math.

A high-quality set of eardbuds, a protective cover of some sort and a car charger (or maybe even just ONE of those three), And the View would run circles around the aforementioned players. I know nothing is ever perfect, but I think people would be willing to pay a bit more for some included accessories rather than hunting and paying for them separately, especially when you condiser how much bang for the buck this is.

I think the View has all the potential to snatch a significant share of the digital audio market. If you're like me, on your second or third digital audio player purchase (which many people are by now), I'd give the View a serious look. If this is your first DAP purchase, same advice...but do both the homework and legwork first.

I bought this 16GB Sansa View for my wife as a Christmas present. To make it an even better Christmas present I loaded all of her music, some choice pictures, and a few memorable videos. At first I was very satisfied with the View. It initializes fast and picks-up at the same screen that I shut it off at. Media transfer is super fast! The scroll wheel works great, in fact, I approve more of the View's physical wheel than the iPod's tactile wheel. The screen has amazing clarity and resolution isn't a problem. However, in opposition to these features that I liked, I did encounter a few disappointing glitches with the View that has me wanting to return it and try another brand. Perhaps I just got the one bad egg out of a hundred; but I'll inform anyone who wants to read on of my experience.

The music loaded just fine with one exception; I had to use a rear USB port to do it. For whatever reason my front USB port wouldn't identify the device. I have only one complaint as far as the View's capibility of to handle music. It doesn't have a method (as far as I know) to allow you to quickly scroll thru the Play/Song/Artist/Album List. Your only option is to scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll until you get to the bottom. A minor inconvenience.

The pictures appeared to load just fine. After loading the pictures I could go to the Thumbnail gallary and view all the pictures. Choosing a picture would display it in landscape view. You turn the player sideways to view the pictures and the controls even rotate to make navigation in landscape mode easy! Sweet feature. I had no problems until after running the first slideshow. All of a sudden two of the pictures became an unsupported media type and no longer showed up as a Thumbnail; they showed up as a generic Icon of a camera?!?! Another major problem will be mentioned below with the Video section.

The videos loaded fine as well. With the screens excellent resolution I was extremly satisfied with video quality. I watched all of the videos several times and I knew that my wife would really get excited once she saw how clear they were displayed. However, she never got to see them. I got everything loaded about two weeks before Christmas. I made sure that the battery was fully charged, then I boxed it up, and I wrapped it. Come Christmas morning my wife fired up the View and I just sat back in eager anticipation of her to stumbling upon the preloaded music, pictures, and videos. When she went into the pictures menu she asked me, "Why can't I see the pictures?" During the two weeks that the View spent under the Christmas tree it somehow lost the ability to display pictures and videos!!! Instead of the picture/video it displays the title of the file. With videos it'll play sound but no picture. I downloaded the latest firmware and that didn't fix the problem. It does the same thing with any new pictures/videos that I load also. However, a simple "Reset to Factory Default" feature fixed this problem

In the end there are just too many unacceptable aggravations for me to want to keep this MP3 player. Barring any firmware miracles, I'm going to return this and try the 16GB Zen.

Ok, Here's the Problem. First of all the Radio Tuner is not digital and it's manual... so you have turn the thing to find a station. Second, the quality of the speakers are not really good... they're bad! I've seen much better ones on these kind of devices! It's not pretty at all! It's old looking! BUT WORST OF ALL , is THE GOD D*MN Antenna!! It's a stupid wire that looks like a Very thin rope! YES! You heard me right! That makes the quality of the radio much worse! For the 3.5mm Jack in , you have to have a Wire , that has both 3.5mm Ends! So if you have that u can use it , if u don't u gotta buy one! I think You can get a Much better one if you pay a couple more dollars. I Paid $8.99 for this but now it's $6.00 ! so that's something to think about as well!

The size, sound quality, and ease of use of this radio are great. It's clearly of a higher quality than the similar Sony dock I looked at. However, as a bedside radio, the back-lit clock is just way too bright. It's bright enough to cast shadows in a dark room. Many of the iPod docks seem to suffer from this problem. I'm going to try putting some tinting film over it to see if it helps. Other than that problem, I am very happy with the unit. It would be ideal for an office or another room of the house.

The concept of this unit is great; good sound for a compact unit, and the ability to use my iPod on the alarm is great. Daylight Savings Time mode is very nice.

However:

1. The backlight display is way too bright; can't set brighness for "off" mode.

2. Alarm Clock workflow is terrible. When the radio alarm goes off, the radio gets progressively louder (which in and of itself is OK). However, you can't set the maximum radio volume for the alarm ahead of time; it just goes to level 24 on its own. BUT the big problem is that once it gets loud, you CANNOT TURN IT DOWN (spinning the volume does nothing)! You have to turn off the alarm itself, then turn it back on again; then you can turn it back down. However, this turns off the alarm itself... so you have to reset it for the next morning. Very easy to miss this step and have no alarm the next morning. It does a good job of making you angry when you wake up.

I bought this at Costco and was quite surprised with the results. At first, I was kind of distraught that the LED screen was so bright, but figured out that you have to press the "Standby/On/Off button" which does not actually shut the unit off, but puts the screen into sleep mode, and you can easily make it brighter by pressing the snooze button.

The gradual awake alarm thing is a bit annoying, but can get around it once again by pressing the same standby button.

The nap function (can have the alarm come on in 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes) is cool and you can go to sleep with the radio or ipod by setting the sleep timer.

The remote is a great idea especially when you preset the stations. Sometimes I hate the morning shows, so this way I can just grab the remote and skip to another pre-programed station.

All in all, the sound quality is really good for the price, and of course, the ipod doc is a great bonus, so if you don't mind the incremental loudness of the alarm (I have only tried in it radio mode), this is a good little machine (and takes up less space than many of the longer ipod clock radios out there...)

Great radio--have to remove outside cover of ipod to get it to work, even though it felt like it was sitting solidly on the dock, but once I figured that out,it is just fine.

Remote is very sturdy & instructions are easy to use. The fm reception is very good & not full of static like many smaller radios.

Liked the first one so much, I purchased another one for the spare room. Only thing that could be better is the clock display at night when it is at its lowest setting, but easily something I can "live with".

I upgraded from a Nokia N95 and couldn't be happier. Feature-wise, the two phones are almost the same, but the performance of the X6 is vastly improved. Sure it's not hard to beat an old phone, but this one leaves me wanting for nothing.

Like all top-end Nokia phones, it has great built-in features: GPS, camera/video, music player, FM radio, wifi, 3g.

Apps load very fast, and the native browser loads really quick too. Wifi reception is great, and the GPS locks on within seconds.

The glass touchscreen is very accurate and easy to use; the display is beautiful. The haptic feedback is a little inconsistent or delayed, but it doesn't distract.

Menu layout is improved too, and once you figure it out, everything is within a tap or two. The Contacts layout on the home screen is hugely useful.

My one complaint is headphone volume is too loud or soft; the controls are not fine enough. That was true on the N95 too.

ya we know the symbain system is old, the hardware is outdated. But this phone does its job! mass storage, good sound quality, good call quality, nice camera. It has almost every upgrade needed from 5800, not to mention the new and better screen. Also, the price is reasonable and you are still contract free! This phone will work several years for sure.

Yes, like somebody else already said the symbiam is old and outdated but still this phone can do things that my iPhone can't. It's small enough and the screen is pretty good, also battery life is great compared again to iPhone. You can use skype over 3G and do wireless tethering with Joikuspot app. I love my iPhone but I also love this X6.

The Nokia x6 would have been my third Nokia phone over the past several years. I say "would have" because I ended up returning the phone after about a week of use.

At first, the X6 seemed like a winner. 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss name (which indicates good quality), capacitive touch screen, tried-and-true Symbian UI, a decent video recorder (30fps), and a tremendous amount of storage space (16gb) built in. And really, the spec sheet is very good, but in reality the phone comes up short.

First, the camera was absolutely terrible. This was one of the primary reasons that I returned the phone. The phone that I used before ordering the X6 was the Sony Ericsson W995a which had an 8.1MP camera. It was very good. The phone before that one was a Nokia N82 which had a spectacular camera (5MP) that was even better than the W995a (it's not all about mega pixels I guess). My thought was that since this had the same MP rating as the N82, and that they were both "Carl Zeiss" lenses, and both were Nokias, that they would perform at least similar to one another. I was very wrong. I know that the N82 has a xenon flash, but I'm not even talking about night shots. The X6's pictures were grainy during the day, un-focused, and had lots of noise. This was the first thing that made me reconsider.

Second, and perhaps the worst thing about the X6, is that the phone is really, really slow. Transitioning between landscape and portrait takes a second or two. Opening a program can take as little as 2 seconds to as much as 5 (like when you're opening your music folder). This doesn't seem like a long time, but believe me it is. Perhaps this is because I had 10GB of music on the phone, but isn't this a music phone? That comes with 16GB storage?? But it wasn't just the music folder that took time to open. Any program that you clicked on simply took too long to just open and work. I don't remember the N82 being this slow...

Third, the build quality was quite poor. The plastic battery cover is pried off. It doesn't have a latch. You literally pull it up with a finger nail and keep pulling until it comes off. The quality of the plastic used (and the whole phone is plastic) is really bad. There is room between the screen and the edges of the phone. It was accumulating dust after just a day after being in my pocket. The buttons at the bottom are in reality just one big button, and you press on either side if you want to end a call, take a call, or in the middle if you want to go back to the main menu--the button drooped on the left side.

That being said, the phone wasn't all bad. First, the music player was excellent. The sound, with the 3.5mm jack, was truly very good. Even the headphones that came with it were excellent. The software to put your music (and pictures and videos) on the phone is excellent and very user friendly. The capacitive screen was responsive, and the call quality was excellent. It has a proximity sensor that locks the phone when its near your cheek so you don't inadvertently end a call. Also, the screen was bright and really nice, it came with a few fun games, and it wasn't too heavy or too light. Just perfect in terms of weight and form factor.

So, to sum it up

THE GOOD

1. Excellent call quality

2. Excellent music quality

3. Bright and beautiful screen; capacitive tech is very responsive.

4. Software bundled with the phone is user friendly.

THE BAD

1. The camera is awful.

2. The build quality is worse.

3. The UI is very slow. The phone drags when you do just about anything.

Sadly, a very slow phone with a very bad camera is not what I was looking for. I wanted a great camera, a fast phone, and an excellent mp3 player. I only got the excellent mp3 player!! I returned this phone and ended up going with a Sony Ericsson Aino. The difference is really unbelievable (but it costs much more too). Hope this helps!!!

I'm gonna start my review telling you I bought this phone 2 months ago, so I have experienced most of the features the phone has on it, and also have unfortunately had the consequences of a couple of 1mt downfalls and other common issues of a 2 month phone. I'm going directly with the Pros and the Cons:

PROS:

The capacitive touchscreen is simply fantastic. The response to any little contact is stunning, but at the same time, by being capacitive it prevents the virtual buttons to be accidentally activated. (Try using your nails, a pen or something different than a finger and you won't get any result)

The camera is pretty good, 5MP, Carl Zeiss lens and double led flash allows you to take very good pictures even at night!

The accelerometer, though it's too sensitive for me some times, works great and allows you for example to switch quickly between alphanumeric keyboard with predictive text to qwerty keyboard when sending sms or writing something on the internet (One of my favorite features by the way)

Very good and free GPS from Nokia (Ok it's not Garmin but works very well)

Internet browsing is nice, can open the webpages in full mode and not mobile modes. You can also set it to ask you what connection you wanna use (Wifi or your service provider), which is good for me cause I'm always looking for free conecctions to save some money!

Great sound, even listening to the radio.

Almost all features work in portrait and landscape mode (one exception is the phone call screen)

Tons of apps can be downloaded, you can find almost everything you want.

So much other Pros...good bluetooth, adequate size and shape, 16GB of internal memory, etc., etc., etc.

CONS

The material of the case is plastic, looks a very nice opaque black, but it feels too fragile in the hands (and it effectivly is, a 30cm downfall and it left a huge scratch in one of the corners)

The Symbian operating system works good, but sometimes is a little slow and it shows some limitations when using few programs at the same time (but I have to point that is sooooo much better than any blackberry device or even the Iphone, it just doesn't make it as good as the Nokia N900)

The lock screen button is located in one side of the phone, is some kind of switch that you have to move down to lock or unlock. It makes you use a different finger than your thumb to move it, which can be bothering when you're typing (though after 2 months you get used to it). I'd prefer a slide unlock as in the iPhone (you can download an app to do that).

The contact bar (where you can put the pictures of your favorite contacts in the homescreen) doesn't respond to the touching as good as the rest of the screen. It lasts a lot to load and makes the start up longer, which can be very bothering. Fortunately you can deactivate it.

For some actions you only have to press the buttons once, but other options need you to press the buttons twice. There's no logical sequence to learn when to press once or twice, you simply have to remember it (you also get used to it after two months)

That's what I remember now...but in general, it's a great phone, high usability, it's a stunning experience, I highly recommend it

This is a wonderful surprise, I had been looking for a boombox that had a function to play radio and usb. To my surprise I found this one. Not only can it do radio, but it's a world radio, has a usb slot, and if you load music straight to the usb drive it'll play it directly, and quite clearly. The speakers are wonderfully powerful and crystal clear. But not only those, it also has an SD card slot for the same option. My only complaint is that it's much smaller than the picture portrays it to be. I expected it to be the size of a regular boombox, instead it's quite small, maybe only a foot wide by only a few inches tall, 4 or 5 inches max. Other than that, I'm quite pleased, and it was packed quite well. All in all five stars is what I give this product.

There are two speakers on this one, but there's no mention on here about it having stereo sound. I thought it would be mono, but it's not...not entirely anyway. The SD and USB slots play back in stereo (including though the headphone jack), but the FM isn't mpx compatible (it's mono).

The radio tuner about average (it has the same exact tuner as another radio I got from here:SUPERSONIC 11 BAND AM/FM/SW RADIO WITH USB & SD CARD SLOT (SC-1089). It's no DX receiver, but both FM and MW/AM are reasonably sensitive and selective (for the price). The MW/AM on this particular example tunes up to 1700 KHz (this being the second radio it's a safe bet they all do), so it does include the new "X band". The SW bands are about what you would expect for something in this price range: it's not going to win any contests, but it works reasonably well for what it is.

The FM dial is a bit out of calibration, but it's not difficult to navigate. Also the tuning dial is the old backwards European style for some reason..right to left.

The SD and USB slots work as they should and again in stereo (though it's a very basic player, and of course there is no readout) and it is SDHC (more than 2GB) compatible. My only complaint is that it does not scan through tracks. Holding down the "REW" or "FF" button raises and lowers the volume. This is a bit of a pain when playing back podcasts should you decide to stop playback. I use an easy to find and free program to split podcasts into 2 minute tracks, so the issue is not that big of a deal.

Overall the sound quality is alright (not shrill or harsh at all), and it puts of a reasonable amount of volume. You'll have no problem hearing it outside at all. It also sound quite good though a pair of headphones and puts out enough power to seriously rock even the most inefficient 'phones...a nice touch.

I felt a bit silly at first for picking up two radios that are so very much alike, but I'm glad I did. For the price it's hard to beat, and I love the idea of at long last having a real radio (not just FM) that will play back MP3 files as well, especially though speakers.

AM band is more sensitive then I thought it would be for a radio this size . FM band is very sensitive also . Now the shortwave band has FM images all over them , inside the house is a different story the shortwave plays o.k . Inside the house seems to sheild the radio from FM and I can receive shortwave ok . I would rate this radio 4 stars , because of the shortwave problem .
