Intertalk Black FM246 Advanced 3-wire 4 Channel Home FM wireless Intercom Power line System 4-statio

Intertalk Black FM246 Advanced 3-wire 4 Channel Home FM wireless Intercom Power line System 4-station
  • Designed for 3-wire AC outlets
  • Made for Offices, Nursery and Homes fitted with 3-wire electrical wiring
  • No installation required --- just plug in and press to talk
  • SOFT TOUCH -- big LOCK, TALK, CALL buttons
  • Lockable TALK button let you talk continuously

Have these set up in 4 different rooms and all on same channel for broadcast announcements. Initially had problems with static and no response and was frustrated trying to find a working channel combination to get them all to work. Then I realized I had used an extension cord with only two prongs and these said "3-wire" in the name. I tried plugging it directly into the wall outlet -viola! [apply palm to forehead] Must use 3-prong extension cords or plug directly into normal 3-hole outlet. Happy with price and function. Blue light that always stays on is very bright.

This beats wiring the whole house. Once you find the clear channel it is a great system. We use it all of the time now rather then screaming to each other from the upper floor to the basement.

Lux TX9000RF Programmable Thermostat with Remote

Lux TX9000RF Programmable Thermostat with Remote
  • Programmable thermostat comes with remote
  • Remote controlled temperature from anywhere in the house
  • Easy programming with LUX speed dial
  • 7-day programming
  • Lighted display, vacation hold, keyboard lockout, 2 or 5-minute delay

I purchased a LUX TX9000RF programmable thermostat as I wanted to be able to remotely control my AC and Heat from my bedroom for those times when I want to make minor temperature changes. The installation was easy, instructions clear, and this item works PERFECTLY. I threw out my old Honeywell setback thermostat as the Lux has several good default programs for saving energy. I highly recommend this unit for anyone who wants better control of AC or heat at odd times. One button on the remote resets the original settings or you can HOLD a certain temp for any amount of time. A++ quality. Well done, Lux.

This was one of the best purchases I have made. I was so tired of waking up in the middle of the night and having to walk downstairs to adjust the temperatute. This thermostat and remote control work exactly as advertised. The only slight difference I notice is that the temperature reading for the house does not seem to be quite as sensitive as my old thermostat, so sometimes you have to set it a little cooler than you would think to get it to click on. But a small price to pay for the convenience of not walking downstairs in the middle of the night. You will not be disappointed.

This is a great unit--easy installation (about 30 minutes for a non-HVAC expert) and good directions. The remote has a great range--I operate it across a 3,000+ SF home with no problems. Multiple channels are available, so if you're like me, you can install multiple remotes to control multiple thermostats.

What heavily impresses me with this unit is how it conserves energy in a way that cuts my utility bill. When the air conditioning is activated (perhaps for the furnance, too--I don't know because it's September here in San Diego and I can wait to find out), the unit will spool up the compressor to cool the air and eventually turn off the compressor while still blowing.

In other words, you get the benefit of additional cool air while only paying for the fan and not the more energy-hungry air conditioner. I heard of this method of energy savings before but was highly skeptical on the actual benefits it would deliver. Suffice it to say that I'm now a believer.

Consumer Reports recommended the Lux TX9000RF Programmable Thermostat with Remote as a great value. We concur. Easy installation instructions provided and a video is also from Lux website.

Both my wife & I dreaded leaving our warm bed to turn up the thermostat on those cold winter mornings. This programmable thermostat solves this problem on a regular basis (pre-programmed times & temperature settings). On those mornings when we wake before the std. time, our remote control allows us to set the desired temperature without leaving the warmth of our bed. I wish that this product was available in Minnesota when I was a kid in the 1960's!

Happy & warm in North Carolina...........

This thermostat offers some pretty nice features. If you live in an environment that is prone to temperature and humidity extremes, as we do here in Arizona, then having a remote control is very handy for tweaking the thermostat's settings by a degree or two without having to drop your studies or get out of bed to do it. Since the remote is a radio frequency (RF) control, adjustments can be made from any room in the house. Walls do not interfere with signals that this remote control unit sends to the thermostat. When you adjust the thermostat using the remote control the unit automatically reverts to settings you have programmed as soon as the desired temperature has been attained. The remote also has a cancel button that allows you to revert to your programmed settings at any time.

This unit can save you quite a bit of money if it is installed in an appropriate place and programmed properly. The ideal place to locate a thermostat is 5 feet above the floor on a wall that is in an open area such as a living or dining room, which is not exposed to drafts. The thermostat needs to sense the ambient temperature of the room. If it is placed in a drafty location, the thermostat will not be able to properly control the temperature, because it will send false readings to your air handling unit.

The problem I was experiencing prior to installing this thermostat stemmed from the fact that the thermostat was mounted in a hallway, immediately beneath the return air duct for the a/c unit. Subsequently, the thermostat would sense a perpetual flow of heat in the air streaming past it and would send false signals to the A/C unit telling it operate much more than it needed to. On a 110+ degree day the A/C unit would run almost perpetually. Thus, coolant in the unit was not able to rest and adequately recover from the heat it was absorbing during protracted cycles.

The solution was 15 feet of 4-conductor #20 AWG (Solid Copper) cable from a hardware store, which I butt spliced to the cable that was originally installed in the wall. This allowed me to locate the Lux thermostat on a living room wall about 8 feet from the location of the old thermostat. This has cut the time my air conditioner runs by about 20 percent, and the nice thing about this thermostat is that it monitors the time that the air handling unit runs, by providing read-outs for hours and minutes utilized on a daily basis -i.e. yesterday, today, and the total for the month.

Lux has great customer service, so if you need help installing this thermostat you may well be able to do it yourself. Even if you need to pay an electrician for an hour, 20 percent off of a few $400+ electricity bills adds up pretty fast.

CC CWF WiFi Internet Radio

CC CWF WiFi Internet Radio
  • Search by location and genre at the same time
  • Ethernet input jack for direct connection to a router or line out jack
  • 99 presets, clock with 5 alarm settings
  • Sleep timer, remote control
  • Wirelessly streams music or audio from your pc or mac.

I bought this radio despite reviews complaining of its reliability. It worked right out of the box and offers, for the price, far more presettable stations than its nearest competitor, a remote and an ethernet connection in addition to its wireless feature. It is also one of the smallest of the table top sets and will sit neatly in a little corner without drawing attention to itself an appealing feature to those listeners for whom appearance places a far second to content. I found its setup well thought out and mostly intuitive. The front panel offers only three pre-sets so do not lose the remote which replicates all radio controls and has a 100 pre-set capacity. The loudspeaker offers better than average fidelity of table top models.

This radio operates using the reciva internet radio website, which the Grace radio also uses. Registering the radio with that site allows the listener to select using reciva those stations of particular and recurrent interest and save their locations in the actual radio. These stations can then be accessed from a menu labelled MY STATIONS on the radio a very nice convenience. Of course wifi radio is only as good as your wireless connection and the streaming rate of the actual service providing the signal. In addition, if your wireless network is in use by several computers or other devices while you are using this radio you may experience bits of silence at times especially noted with broadcasts from foreign stations that are otherwise flawless. Most, but not all, American radio stations use servers providing reliable output to the internet, as do the government supported stations of Europe, Russia, China and Japan. However, if your cup of tea is Upper Volta or the Falkland Islands for example, well, the sometimes large gaps in the sound are not the fault of this radio. Having more than a casual interest in world news and having listened to shortwave broadcasts for many years, I have found that wifi radio offers far, far more foreign stations than shortwave these days without requiring a subscription fee (except, of course, the cost of your internet connection) and seems to be largely replacing shortwave broadcasts to the very well developed world. I found this radio an affordable and, so far, easy to use, trouble-free way of listening to what inhabitants of other parts of earth have to say about themselves and us, without a fade any time of day.

I had this up and running in about 5 minutes, very nice to set up, the sound quality through external speakers is very good, the built in speaker is just OK. Having access to all the stations is great and physically, it is very small which is good for a night stand.

However, it seems to have some firmware issues with staying connected. About every 2 days it looses all its connections and cannot reconnect without being unplugged and plugged back in. Apparently, it's not able to reset itself once the connection is lost. I'm not sure if it's the WiFi or Receiva site that's the issue, it always looses all the connections at once and new ones cannot be made. Power cycling always resets it immediately though.

The display is not very useful as a nighttime clock unfortunately. It always shows 2 lines, so the clock display is quite small, and once you set the backlight down to sleeping levels, it is very hard to read. They should have a single line all clock display with reversed lighted numbers on dark background, but don't.

The C Crane tech support is pretty much worthless as well.

=================================================================================================

Update a year later Only deserves 2 stars after firmware update:

The latest firmware update has made it a very unreliable alarm clock.

Same issues with connectivity dropping out, but now with the latest firmware update by going to the Network menu and telling it to rescan, it reconnects without power cycling. It still can't do this operation itself, you have to do it manually each time.

The real killer though is that whereas before, if it couldn't get a WiFi connection for the alarm function it would go to the beep alarm, now it just does nothing, so the alarm doesn't work. This is VERY BAD.

Bottom line is that it's not a bad WiFi radio, but because of the useless clock display and unreliable alarm functions it's not usable as an alarm clock.

It looks like we are supposed to believe that C.Crane has designed this for the American Market.

On their website it states:

"Well, we couldn't let the Europeans and Brits have all the glory, so we've built a WiFi radio of our own."

The problem is, it doesn't look like they designed this radio or built it. It seems they are taking a radio they are buying from someone else and sticking their name (and a $100 premium) on it.

If you go to Amazon's German site and search for IPdio mini Internetradio, you will find the exact same radio for 85 euros (about $100).

So what are American's paying twice as much for, the brand name C.Crane stuck on the radio?

BTW, in Germany the same company sells the C.Crane radio and the Grace radio. They sell the Grace radio for more money and position the C.Crane one as their cheaper "Mini" radio.

I have had a trio of wi-fi radios, and this is by far, the flimsiest device of the three. I don't mind plastic radios, but I never knew that plastic could be produced this thin. To say that the tuning knob has the feel of a Fisher-Price toy radio, is to besmirch a perfectly good toy maker. The sound from the speaker is equally thin, and the software doesn't allow for use with Pandora nor with MP3 tunes music locker. For the same price, the Grace wifi radio blows this away in both build quality and sound reproduction. On the plus side, I DO like the look of the radio, and set-up and implementation couldn't have been easier. I have used many a fine CCrane product over the years, really like the and support the company, and was hoping to be able to recommend this device, but unfortunately, cannot.

I've had the CC Wifi Internet Radio for two weeks now. I had no problems setting it up with my Wireless network and it works quite well although it lacks an external Wifi antenna.

It uses the Reciva database of radio stations (over 14,000 radio stations claimed)(). Although using the single knob to scroll through lots of radio stations. They are organized by location or genre and its fun to search the world for interesting stations.

Using your reciva.com account you can set up your favorite stations which show up on your radio (after you have registered it) under "My Stations". You can also add other streams under "My Streams".

This radio is nice and compact and light (constructed of plastic). The display is only two lines which means you have to do a lot of scrolling through menus sometimes.

It comes with a remote which is handy if you want to access more than 3 stations (up to 99 with the remote) you can store on 3 buttons on the front. These stations are stored locally rather than under your reciva account under "My Stations".

It also will stream audio in various formats (MP3, Windows Media, Real, iTunes (non-protected), Ogg Vorbis and also with the new firmware FLAC files) from your PC or PnP device such as many Networked Attached Storage devices. In fact it works great with my Netgear ReadyNAS where I have all my music stored.

I looked at the number of Internet/Wifi Radios and chose this one over the others because of two things: its small size and fact that it also has a wired Ethernet port as well as Wifi connectivity.

Only issues are that it sometimes loses the Wifi connection (not an issue with a wired Ethernet connection) and some stations take more than a few seconds to buffer before you can listen to them.

UPDATE June 5, 2012

I had to have this radio repaired by CCrane last year because the network connection died. They replaced the networking board cost $59 + shipping. I was hesitant but decided to do it. It seemed pretty expensive given the original price. Fast forward to June 2012 and the radio dies again. Of course it is "out of warranty" and so it's either pay to have it repaired or they would be willing to give be $40 credit toward a replacement. I have to say that I am disappointed in the quality of this device. It should have lasted way longer. I have plenty of other electronics that are more reliable. So buyer beware! This is not a high quality piece of equipment. I'm going to replace with another brand.

Geneva Sound System Model M All-in-One Stereo (Walnut)

Geneva Sound System Model M All-in-One Stereo
  • A robust yet compact complete stereo with four speakers (4" woofers, 1" tweeters) individually powered by 100 (4x25) Watt Class D Digital amplifier and Embracing Sound DSP.
  • iPod/iPhone dock for all iPod models and Embracing Sound DSP microchip to greatly enhance compressed iPod and MP3 files. This dock works with iPhone 4S and earlier and dock has a 30 pin connection
  • Touch Light controls full menu of iPod.
  • Digital radio with alarm; easy to program and control.
  • Piano lacquer wood cabinet, available in three finishes.

In my experience with speakers Geneva has been the best; they're strong, aesthetic, and long lasting. I don't know what is going on with the other reviewer's CD drive on his speaker, but then again, who the hell uses CDs anymore. I can't say anything about Geneva's prowess in playing CDs, but for ipods geneva is king.

I researched sound systems for at least one month before purchasing the Geneva Sound System Model M in Walnut. When the item arrived I was extremely excited only to open it to find out it was not at all what I expected. From my research and some pictures on the Amazon page of this item, I was expecting this sound system to include a CD player. When I saw that it didn't include a cd player I contacted Amazon to let them know my expectations of the item were not met and explained the picture on the amazon page I ordered form showed a cd player. The sent the customer service rep a link to the page that I saw that showed a cd player on this item and they agreed that was there but refused to do anything but give me a refund. I found this item very misleading on the amazon page and would expect more from a reputable company like amazon.

Disappointed!

Insignia Clock Radio Model NS-C2111

Insignia Clock Radio Model NS-C2111

  • COMPACT SIZE FOR PORTABILITY

Gained about 30-40 minutes for every hour it ran. Didn't notice at first because I was only around it for short periods. When I was next to it for about 90 minutes I noticed it was way fast. I thought maybe I had set it wrong, but about an hour later I had the same issue.

I bought mine as "Like New, Open Box." Your mileage may vary. It's cheap enough that I didn't want to put in the effort of returning it. But I definitely wouldn't try it again when there are so many OTHER inexpensive products that do exactly the same thing.

The NS-C2111 continues Insignia's tradition of clock radios that represent the pinnacle of fine craftsmanship. Its handsome design and ergonomics pick up where the excellent NS-C2110 left off, and the state-of-the-art electronics make using it a delight.

But Insignia is best known for their audio fidelity, and the NS-C2111's is no exception. Pour yourself a glass of Chardonnay and invite a few friends over for rosbif and canapes and marvel at the richness of tone and the tightness of spectrum. Luxuriate in the audio's "presence" and let the chromatics take you away. Really treat yourself! Here Insignia have produced not a clock radio but a work of art.

Yamaha TSX-130BL Desktop Audio System (Black)

Yamaha TSX-130BL Desktop Audio System
  • iPod Dock on top panel
  • Connect USB player/devices via port on top panel to play MP3 and WMA tracks
  • CD Player, Clock with dual alarm modes
  • Handy card-type remote unit

I decided to abandon separate components in my new (small) apartment. Having made the leap into the Ipod world, I figured a good-quality docking system would be fine. I've trusted the Yamaha brand many times, and liked the look of this piece.

That being said, this system doesn't really cut the mustard. Yeah, it's real convenient Ipod, CD, USB, receiver (I couldn't care less about the alarm clock), but the sound is disappointing. The DSP settings what the #*$&% ever happened to tone controls? simply do not give enough treble. It's either massive bass with no high end, or tinny high end with no definition.

I wasn't expecting audiophile quality, but for $400, I think Yamaha blew it with this piece. The $30 speakers I hooked up to my MacBook sound significantly better, frankly.....

Buy Yamaha TSX-130BL Desktop Audio System (Black) Now

This Yamaha unit is pricey, but well worth it for us. It has outstanding sound that greatly exceeded expectations. The alarm functions are great and have several options to choose from. The alarm is also easy to use, which is a relief after some complex systems we have tried in the past (and considering all its options and functions)...we found it extremely easy to use for set up and to snooze/cancel each morning. My iPod Classic works great with the unit and keeps charging too. Unsure about whether newer iPod Touch gen2+ or iPhones will get a charge, but there are lots of adapters included to choose from.

My only minor complaint is the remote could be glow in the dark or lit a bit. The remote is easy to use and useful in a lit room, but when the lights go out, I have to turn a light on if I want to use the remote (unless I just keep my finger on a button).

I recommend this unit without reservation. Even the wood finish on top looks good.

First off, this is not my primary listening portal nothing comes close to the auditory bliss of separates. That said it is definitely used on a regular basis. The TSX-130 is a fine little piece of audio and fully commands the price for the sound it delivers. Since Yamaha is known for making trustworthy digital portals and even better receivers, it's no surprise that even at a measly 30 watts amplification, the sound here is bright and clean enveloping the room (large, wooden floored living area) and creating a respectable soundstage even casual listeners have come to expect. And like many skeptics who fear quality of bass oozing out of a small system, simply channel Brian Bromberg's double bass masterpiece Wood. Within seconds of the opening plucks, I was completely blown away as one hears the low range of the TSX-130 being put to test. The resonating strings are crystal clear as they reverb along the wooden neck. No rumbling, just straight clean bass. To take it even further by discounting the modern state-of-the-art studio recording of Wood, I put the TSX-130 through a `tougher' test by slipping in James Moody's mid 50s Verve recordings Moody's Mood for Bluesonce again Eldee Young's acoustic bass was crisp and had a full bodied tone. In fact, album after album I found that all the frequencies are well defined be it the mid-range of Dylan's pipes Together Through Life or Macca's alter ego as The Fireman on Electric Argumentsto the higher ends typical of the late 70s proto-disco/soul heard on Philadelphia Classics....and as a good sound system should be, deserve no tone adjustments (as absent here). The only downside to this system is the absence of a rear input jack to for a video connection. Overall an excellent product that goes beyond casual listening.

Want Yamaha TSX-130BL Desktop Audio System (Black) Discount?

Wanted to have a clock radio that would also work as an iPod dock, could not believe how poor the sound quality was on the iHome and a few Sony products so decided to move up in price a little. Very happy that I did. The sound quality is infinitely better and the look is much nicer. I am actually more impressed with little things that I didn't know that it did when I purchased it, like the gradual increase in volume when the alarm goes off so that it is not jarring and the gradual dimming of the display when the room lights go down making it less bright for sleeping. A very nice product, only 4 stars because it is a little expensive for what it is.

I am really impressed with this unit. I bought it because I wanted something that is very light and compact, plays both CDs and my ipod, but still sounds excellent. This is the only unit out there that really fits the bill. The sound quality is incredible for such a small unit, it is warm and broad, filling my 700 square foot apartment with ease you will be amazed. I tried Bose units in the store, even some really pricey ones ($500+) and they just cannot compare to this. I recommend using just the "normal" DSP setting, or switch to "mild" if you have music with sharp treble. The other settings have too much bass or treble. I think it was a mistake for Yamaha to have the unit start in the "heavy" DSP setting when you first plug it in.

The look and style of the black unit is aesthetically the best you can find for such a unit. It looks very much like a fine piece of audio equipment, rather than the junky, plasticy look of most other comparable units (even Bose pales in this regard). It looks rather sophisticated on my bookshelf.

It has various alarm clock functions, but I have this in my apartment's living room, so I don't foresee trying those out any time soon.

The only downside is the lack of an AUX input. I'd really like to be able to connect a vinyl record player, as the speakers have great bass output, and the richness of vinyl would shine through. Too bad. It's particularly disappointing since the cheaper model without the CD player DOES have an AUX input. This tempted me to give the unit 4 stars, but every other aspect of the unit is so superb, and so beyond the competition, I would be silly to do so.

Overall, a pricey unit, but a fantastic one. You get what you pay for, as they say.
