I would recommend personally installing the unit yourself if you have some mechanical aptitude and technical skills. You're basically just putting in a metal mounting sleeve and splicing 12 wires together. Doing the installation yourself definitely added some personal satisfaction to the whole purchase. However, if you're still uncomfortable, it's a simple enough job for any neighborhood handyman that should only require a six pack or dinner as compensation.
First thing that you may want to do after installation is to go into the setup menu and adjust the illumination dimmer and set it to "low". My unit came set in the "hi" level and it may be quite bright for some. A bonus feature that wasn't in the item description is a red LED bulb that flashes when the face plate is off and your car key is out of the ignition. It makes it look like your car has an anti-theft security system. The only thing that puzzles me is the remote control...Really!! I guess it's for those who have a chauffeur and ride in the backseat.
Well, hope this review helps anyone still waiting on the fence trying to decide. Taking a chance was the best decision for me! :)I bought this unit, given its decent reviews, great price, and a previous positive experience with similar products. As I am not a handyman by any means, had it professionally installed at a local car audio shop. It worked fine on the way home, and I was happy with its sound. However, upon restarting my car a few hours later, the radio flickered, and turned off after about 2 minutes. It then restarted itself, only to eventually die again. I tried resetting the unit, and was able to get it to work again for the duration of my drive. Hoping this was just the new radio "settling in," decided to try it for another day before bringing it back to the shop. Unfortunately, the next day, it stopped working altogether. Brought it to the shop, who confirmed that the leads were working and powered correctly. Turning on the radio, he was able to elicit a garbled jumble of letters on the screen and no power. Sadly, not even anticipating this as a possibility, I threw out the packaging the moment I got home after installation, not anticipating a defective product. Sadly, upon returning to the shop to have it removed, the owner mentioned that he stopped selling Dual models because people kept coming back with problems. In any case, bottom line may still be worth the money, but SAVE YOUR PACKAGING AND RECEIPT until you are sure you don't need to return it. wish I had known. This is a very good Stereo with a lot of features, and is a bargain. I highly recommend this product.looks good, works good, sounds good, for the price i would recomend this over alot of the high dollar stereos good job guysGreat price, easy install and diverse playback features made this radio upgrade a good choice for an older vehicle. Radio reception, even out in the boonies, is quite good. Not made with the sturdiest control components but adequate. Remember to use the internet for wiring and installation details. Overall, a good buy!
