First off please note that this unit DOES NOT HAVE A DETACHABLE FACEPLATE as stated in the Amazon description. As for the unit itself, its not that bad actually. It drives 160 Watts and sounds good to me compared to the previous reviewer. The unit is very light as it doesn't have a cd player. And if you are going off the illustration of the unit used here, there are a few asthetic points you should note: The display is closer to a yellow/green than the green shown. And the illustration shows glossy operation buttons with a silver/chrome metallic looking ring surrounding it, both of there are missing on the actual product. The entire face is a semi-matte black. I do like that the unit looks more OEM than aftermarket, and blends well with the dash and green illumination of my truck. The display relies on a LCD scrolling system for displaying MP3 tag info, which is typical of these type of units.

As for the SD/USB operation. I'm not one to use subfolders or playlists, so I can't comment on navigating the system. One important thing to note though, is if you sync your music using Windows Media or Itunes, which creates folders with album art, etc. for each song, it may cause a misread if you have too many folders on the drive. I tried a 4gb SD card with approx 360 songs and it wouldn't read it, and then tried again with only the mp3s on the card and it worked fine.

Overall the performance is good, I think if you have good speakers, you'll be happy. Big dissapointment that the faceplate isn't detachable. But for $48 it looks and performs well, and looks stock enough that thieves will probably mistake it as such.

Update: I've used the unit for a few days now and have noticed a few things: The AM on the tuner has poor sound, very tinny, even for AM. Reception on the AM band isn't great either, but passable with strong signals. The random feature for the USB/SD slots is truely random, so you may get duplicates of the same song. Not a big deal, but worth note. The remote works well, no real limit in range from what I've seen. I do like that the major control buttons are closer to the drive. The EQ settings aren't bad, but I recommend turning it off and manually ajusting bass and treble to your liking.

The unit is louder than my previous Sony and the materials used to make it will hopefully last longer in the harsh marine environment. The buttons on the front are not the most user friendly, but it does come with a remote which works great. I would recommend this unit for anyone who will be using the radio in a marine environment.

A great radio that fit in my price range!

Options for expansions is a bonus.

Decent sound for 160 watts.

Got it so I could pop in my Iphone on the boat, so the auxiliary input was a good feature; one my last radio did not have

Worth the price i paid here oon Amazon for good sounding tunes out on the water.

so, for the cost, i'd say it has decent sound and the stereo unit itself feels like it's made good. i installed it just like any other stereoget extra wire of course, but it went in fine, the screen is bright and looks much nicer than i thought it looked in the picture, i was happy about that.

I wanted a cheap clock radio that would work with my iPod Nano G4. The sound quality is not that great and neither is the FM antenna, but I guess you get what you pay for. If I could do it again, I'd probably spend a little more money for a better product.

The Ipod portion of this product works fine. Yes the quality is not great. I recieved this as a gift from a friend almost a year ago. It has played my ipod loyally and hs been sitting on my dresser. Well I bought batteries for it to use incase of emergency and it dosen't work with them. I plug it in and it works. if I take if off the wall plug then I lose all power and it wont power up with the batteries in it. Guess I will have to get a new radio b/c this isn't going to work. (yest I checked the batteries in another product and they worked.)

Gave this to my son for Christmas because he was also getting an ipod from Grandparents. Nice size and said it did all that we needed it to do, plays the ipod well but the radio part is a piece of junk. Static drowns out the sound when you have it on low volume and it does not matter if its on AM or FM. No matter what you do to the antenna it does not make a difference. This item is basically just for playing your ipod on, not for listening to the radio with. There is also an AUX connection but I as of yet have not been able to find anything that works in it.

I understand when something is cheap, you are probably losing quality. But this junk is an embarrassment to have given as a gift to a kid. The static is louder than the music. It shows an ipod shuffle playing on the box but you need to buy an additional cord for that you discover Christmas morning. And the sound, no matter what the source is, stinks. Flat out, this isn't worth getting for free. I could have used the cardboard box to recycle wrapping paper along with the eventual 'Thanks for this piece of crud' letter and it would be worth more than the junk inside. I wish I would have read a review like this before I wasted my money. Next time I will give the kid a check and tell him it is for his Bose savings account.

I bought this for my teenaged daughter. It is a great value for the price. My kids love their ipods and this is a great way to charge it while listening to it through speakers. I"m thinking of buying another one for myself.

Oregon Scientific RM313PNA Self-Setting Projection Clock

Oregon Scientific RM313PNA Self-Setting Projection Clock, SilverThis clock is great! I bought it for my 11 year old son for a Christmas gift. He loves it. It supposedly takes 2 to 10 minutes to automatically set itself. Ours took twelve (our kids were in a small panick) but was worth the extra wait. The time shines in red on your ceiling in nice, large numbers... probably 6 inches by 15 inches and is very clear and easy to see, even when it is not completely dark in the room. I only wish that the blue back-light would stay lit. When you press the the button, it only stays lit for 5 seconds. I have to say that the red numbers on the ceiling scare our 5 year old son, but he doesn't mind it when we position the clock to shine on the wall. All in all, I wish I had thought to buy a second one for my room. It is a real bargain and definitely worth buying.

Besides the projection clock, Atomic setting, it shows the indoor temperature. It also displays the date + weekday (Mon~Sun) with 3 languages settings (English, French and Spanish). Another feature I love, even it includes the 3V adapter, it works fine with only battery operated so that it becomes portable. The alarm has the special beeping which it beeps in the first 20 seconds, then 2 beeps between 20~50seconds,3 beeps between 50~1 minute, then it continues beeps after 1 minute. It's good since simetimes you don't want the clock interrupt your wife's sleep. I think it's a good buy with $19.99 (but I saw somewhere selling it at $18.50 :-

This clock is not the most perfect alarm clock ever made but it fits the bill for what I was looking for. I'm not a morning person and an alarm clock is a serious purchase for me. Twenty two years ago, I bought a tiny battery operated clock in a garage sale for 15 cents. No, I'm not kidding. I loved it the beep was just right, it was small and portable and I only had to change the battery every 5 years or so. It was impossible to read at night, but for 15 cents, it served me well until I dropped it one too many times and made the snooze function unusable.

I'm old and cranky I need a good snooze button! I like to sleep in near complete darkness, so at first, the red glow of the numbers on my ceiling made me aware of an ominous glow above me but just like the moon and stars, you kinda adapt to the subtle ambient lighting. In the dead of night, as I roll over in bed, I can look up at my ceiling to see the time without waking all the way or assaulting my eyes.

When the alarm goes off, it a simple beep not beeps one single beep that is loud enough to wake you, but not so loud it startles you. It will be followed by other single solitary beeps about 3-4 seconds apart. I can always slap the snooze button before the second beep comes along. The snooze is just the right time interval for me 8 minutes. I can actually get another few minutes of true sleep before waking fully.

If the alarm goes off when it is still dark outside and it's dark in your room, the glowing blue of the clock might startle you as it is bright. Plugged in, the red numbers are available at all times. When running solely on the 9v battery, the red light is only available when pressing the snooze bar to illuminate the time on the face. You get both when you hit the snooze you can't have just the red numbers. When set to alarm mode, however, I see the red numbers, but the eye-assaulting blue screen is off.

It is very easy to set the alarm. There are not 50 menus to jump through. A single button press on the center button either enables the alarm or disables it. The atomic clock feature means that I'm always on time when it's time to rise. The rubber coated 'feet' of the clock keeps it from sliding across my night stand as I fumble for it when it goes off.

Less than perfect rating is for a few things:

1.) you can't disable the bright blue backlighting or even dim it if you press the snooze bar for a status in the middle of the night (why isn't this also red?!)

2.) I would have liked to have seen this in a metal case something more hearty and sturdy

3.) I can find no way to turn off the 'confirmation beeps' as I reset the alarm and there is no 'fast forward' so if I wake up at 5:30 and decide I'd rather wake up at 6:45, I'm having to hit the 'up' button 15 times to go from 30 to 45 each time with a corresponding beep which is not soft ... meaning if your husband or wife is trying to sleep good luck in trying to reset the alarm without being sent to divorce court.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and I appreciate the thought that went into its design.

Overall I am happy with this purchase. For the price this clock is a great buy, and it serves my needs well.

*** When I was looking for an alarm clock, I knew that two features were must-haves on my list:

1. Auto synchronization via the atomic cock signal.

2. Ceiling projection.

---Auto synchronization via the atomic cock signal.

I already have a watch that synchs to the atomic clock, and I love this feature. Eventually all clocks in my house (and on my person) will be auto synch (either via atomic clock or cell phone carrier). In my opinion it is the only way to go if you want to be assured of accurate time keeping.

Note that some alarm clocks are advertised as "Automatic Time Set" (for example Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (Black)), but these do not automatically synchronize their time setting. They call themselves "Automatic Time Set" but all this means is that they come pre-set from the factory with the correct time and have a daylight saving auto-adjustment.

--Ceiling projection.

I had never had a ceiling projection clock before. I was concerned that the projections would be too bright and would interfere with my sleep. This fear was unfounded. The projection of this clock is easily read in a darkened room, yet does not give off appreciable light itself. The projection is red, and looks much like an LED display.

Unfortunately and predictably, in a fully lit room you will not see the projections.

*** Other features of this clock that I like:

--Progressive Alarm

The alarm starts out as a single beep, and then progresses into multiple and more frequent beeps. The volume also seems to increase (but I am not sure of this). I find that I usually wake up in the early single-beep stages, but I am secure that if I am in an especially heavy sleep that the progression of the alarm will serve its purpose and wake me up.

--Position of the snooze button

It is big and on top of the clock.

--Small form factor

It does not take up too much space.

--Temperature display

A nice bonus.

*** Features of this clock I do not like, or are missing:

--No alarm volume control, and no choice of alarm.

The alarm sound is what it is (see above) and there is no changing it

--Position of the alarm button

The button used to cancel the alarm in the morning is on the front of the unit. The good news is it is raised higher than the other buttons making it easier to find. The bad news is that located on the front of the unit it is awkward to hit (especially in a groggy state). Since the clock itself is so light, you have to grab the clock and hold it in order to hit the cancel-alarm button. This button really belongs somewhere on the top of the unit.

--Clock face display only illuminates on request

You cannot read the clock face in the dark without first hitting the backlight button. Much better would have been an always-on LED display.

--No aiming feature on the projector

The projector is fixed relative to the clock. To move the orientation of the projected time, one must move the clock. Said fixed orientation of the projection relative to the clock seems odd to me: If you have the clock on a nightstand with the display facing you, then the projection on the ceiling will be sideways relative to your point of view. Similarly, if the projection is moved so you can read it, then the clock display is no longer facing you.

I got this clock to replace the last one, which was almost identical.

Some great things:

1. It projects on the cieling I can't live without this anymore.

2. It's atomic, but you can set everything manually.

3. Battery operated, so it doesn't go off if power goes out, but plugs in so you never have to change the batteries.

4. It's very compact and the housing is very durable.

Less good -

1. Sometimes the radio signal takes a while to catch on, with the blinds shut and everything may just be my area though

2. Last one died (after 3 years use) it would reset it self every time you hit snooze. It had problems after a while.

Jensen AM/FM Shower Radio with Digital PLL Tuning - JWM 160

Jensen AM/FM Shower Radio with Digital PLL Tuning - JWM 160I bought this shower radio to replace my waterbug that was absolutely terrible. This radio gives me excellent reception in my bathroom, especially since my bathroom does not have any windows. I'm able to get all the radio stations in my area (I'm in a metro area) without any static. The presets and digital tuner are a great feature. The sounds quality is excellent. I'm able to have the volume loud enough to hear it in my bedroom without having the speaker resonate and distort the sound. Excellent for the price!!

The only negative thing is that I've been going through batteries kind of often. The volume on the radio starts to go pretty low, regardless of me turning it up, which is an indication to me to change the batteries, but one the batteries are changed, it works awesome again. I would still recommend/buy this item regardless of the battery situation.

This radio looks nice, and sounds good inside the shower, but it's kind of tinny-sounding for use as a whole-room radio. It seems much more complicated to use than necessary. To turn up the volume you have to press the volume button first then press the up or down button. To change bands from AM to FM while you are listening, you have to press the on/off button again then the band button. To change to another preset station, you press the memory button first then the up or down button. If you press up or down without pressing anything else it just goes to the next station number (not a signal scan). To turn it off you press the on/off button twice. All this is to say, they've made something that should be fairly simple into something you might want to keep your instructions handy for, unless you keep your radio at one setting all the time. I guess you get what you pay for, as we also have a Sony bathroom radio that was about $70 and is well worth the cost difference.

This shower radio is rather complicated to program and went through batteries very quickly.

It broke after about 6 months of my using it, before then, it worked fine but it wasn't anything special.

I would recommend against buying this radio unless you find its inexpensive price very attractive.

This is by far the worst thing I have ever purchased. The buttons are very confusing and have to be pressed in a certain order just to change between preset stations. You have to press two buttons just to change the volume. I bought this 6 months ago and after changing the batteries twice it still has poor reception and will completely quit working if you leave it on too long (20 minutes max.) Not to mention the clock constantly loses time.

Want Jensen AM/FM Shower Radio with Digital PLL Tuning - JWM 160 Discount?

The radio worked for just six months before it inexplicably died. In that time, it went through a ton of batteries, which was particularly annoying, because a screwdriver is required to open the battery casing. And the memory buttons are a joke you have to press multiple buttons to change the channel, then the on/off button twice to turn the thing off when done...after the first month, and after changing the batteries, I gave up on that feature altogether.

Amazon should pull this product.

I bought this phone in November of last yr. It has limited uses with at&t in the UNITED STATES... it is made by a manufacturer in CANADA so if you live in Canada and are purchasing this phone, it may be a wonderful product. Amazon wanted me to pay a restocking fee and would only refund me 15% of the cost of the phone if I returned it. SONY asked me to send it in, I had to pay postage (rather expensive because they wanted it boxed and packed with bubble wrap) and when they sent it back, it was in an unprotected plastic bag. SONY said that it was my fault because I didn't know the phone had limited access in the US (which I did not know because this description does not tell you that). Sony ICF-CD831 CD Clock Radio with FM/AM Radio and Extendable Snooze (White)

Sony ICF-CD831 CD Clock Radio with FM/AM Radio and Extendable Snooze
  • Compact and modern clock radio with FM/AM radio and CD player
  • CD player supports CD-R/RW discs
  • Snoozinator gives you up to an extra 60 minutes of sleep
  • .9" green LED numerals are easy to see
  • Dual alarm for different wake-up times

This is the best alarm clock I've ever had, except for one thing. No battery backup. I suppose I could plug it into one of my UPSs to alleviate that problem, but I was surprised at how quickly it lost its memory after power loss. It would also be nice if it had a digital tuner, but that isn't a big deal to me since I don't use it for readio much. If I did use it for radio a lot, it would drive me nuts manually tuning to stations.

I love the snooze feature where you can keep tapping it to change when the next alarm will be. The ideal alarm clock would be similar to this one, with a battery backup, and a digital tuner. Oh yeah, it sounds pretty good too. I have it set play a nature sounds CD when I wake up. When it plays the morning birds I sometimes confuse the recording for the real birds outside my window, and vice versa. I'm not saying these are excellent speakers, but they definitely sound good for an alarm clock. Oh, and it looks pretty stylish to most of the other boxy CD alarm clocks out there.

In short, a very good alarm clock, but plug it into a UPS if you want to be sure you won't be late for work because of a power outtage in the middle of the night.

Buy Sony ICF-CD831 CD Clock Radio with FM/AM Radio and Extendable Snooze (White) Now

I love this clock radio/CD player! It's a great clock radio for someone who's trying to get back to better sleeping habits. I was originally looking for a clock radio with soothing "nature sounds" built in, but this clock radio really does the job. I can play a CD with nature sounds or soothing music when I go to bed. I just set a timer, and the CD turns itself off. I can set the alarm to wake up to music, the radio, or a buzzer. By the way, the buzzer isn't an obnoxious loud buzz; it's more like a pulsing chirp. Much more pleasant to wake up to! The LCD has two brightness settings, so the light doesn't wake me up in the middle of the night. The only down side is that it takes up a little more room on the bedside table than I had planned, but that's minor compared to this clock radio's strengths.

It's hard to find information on the power consumption of many products, even though the cost of energy can sometimes add up to be more than the purchase price. Since parts of this unit are powered up all the time, I was concerned about that before I bought it. But it is pretty good: I measure about 1.3 to 1.6 W with the display on dim; 1.7 to 2.0 W with the display bright. On dim, that's no higher than some plain alarm clocks without a radio or CD player. And it's much lower than some of the "high-end" competitors: about 6 W for the Bose Wave radio or the Cambridge Soundworks equivalents, or 3.3 W for the Panasonic RC-CD600. Still, if Sony cared to, they could cut it down to about half a watt.

On other aspects, it is very good. The display is easy to read even when dim--much better than backlit LCD displays. There's no mistaking the sound for a full size stereo, but the sound is decent and solid, and is loud enough for me to follow the news broadcast while I'm in the shower in the next room. The controls are easy to use.

One thing to look out for--the "PSYC" version looks different from the plain white one: it has silver trim and fluorescent pink lettering. This Amazon listing says PSYC but pictures the plain white one, so I don't know which you'd get if you ordered it. If you care about the looks make sure you are getting the one you prefer.

I Had this radio for a few days, but had to return it. 1. No back-up battery and 2. the dots between the hour and minutes constantly blink, there is no way of stoping it. Sounds crazy, but it drove me nuts. Other then these two exceptions the radio play well.

This worked great up until a little less than a year after purchase, then the CD player started going haywire. It still plays CD's, yet when I set the alarm to play a song on the CD, it will spin and spin, but not play. Tried to get it replaced under warranty so I called Sony helpline and they talked me through it until it eventually worked on one song on a different CD, of course when I hung up, it stopped working again. Not worth the $50 I spent.

Eton FRX2 Hand Turbine AM/FM Weather Radio with Smartphone Charger - Black (NFRX2WXB)

Eton FRX2 Hand Turbine AM/FM Weather Radio with Smartphone Charger - Black
  • Receives AM/FM/Weather band
  • USB smart phone charger
  • Hand turbine and solar powered
  • LED flashlight
  • Glow in the dark locater

I bought the Eton FRX2 for my bug out bag, but with so many blackouts from storms I use this radio a lot. This radio has already proved its worth. The light lasts for hours without much cranking. Being able to charge the radio on laptop or in sun helps me be prepared before rain storms or for trips to the beach. I have used it a few times to charge my smartphone, and it charges pretty quickly.

My favorite thing about the radio is the reception. I accidentally broke the top of the antennae one night. I was afraid the radio wouldn't work as well, but I was surprised to find that it still worked. I can get the weather band radio very easily. I can get almost any local station were I am, broken antennae and all.

The only thing I wish this radio had was a way to know how much battery was left. I would go a day without charging the radio and it would lose power. I would have to crank away. The radio body is kinda clunky, but how it preforms over shadows how it looks. That's a good thing.

It's sturdy enough for frequent use. I've dropped it without much problem too. Great radio for your needs.

We have the American Red Cross FRX2 Hand Turbine AM/FM Weather Radio with Smartphone Charger Red (ARCFRX2WXR) version of this radio (just branded different) and it is a very good choice for an emergency AM/FM Weather Radio that is suitable for home use, camping, car emergency kit, or as part of a "bug out bag". Here are my observations:

Pros -

+ Many Charging Options; can be charged by placing it in sunlight via the built in solar panel, by using the integrated hand crank, or via a mini-USB cable (not included)

+ Acts As Charger; can charge cell phones via a standard USB cable (not included)

+ Bright Flashlight; the 3-LED flashlight is very powerful and lasts a very long time

+ Weather Radio; includes 7 NOAA weather channel presets

Cons -

Plastic Construction; unit looks and feels "plasticky"

Radio Sound Quality; while not really detrimental to getting information, the internal speaker leaves a lot to be desired but using the earphone jack makes a big difference

This is a decent emergency radio that is also useful for camping and hiking.

Highly Recommended!

So far so good. I wish battery life was better but it does live up to the adds of 3 hrs on a full charge with low volume.

I wish it did let u know when it is fully charged insted of timing it at three hrs on the computer.

It has good sound for a little radio.

I bought this primarily for backpacking and only just received it today, but am impressed with it so far. It is compact, lightweight and has very good reception. I am able to get noaa weather and radio stations that have poor reception. The speaker is very good for its small size. I can clearly hear it from the other room. I am not sure if it will charge my cell phone but it does charge my kindle (with a different cable that I had). I have it sitting on a windowsill in direct sunlight and it has been playing for several hours. There are 3 ways to charge it, with the solar panel, the hand crank or it has a usb port so you can charge off your computer. You can't listen to the radio when you are charging a cell phone (or kindle) off it, which is the only thing I didn't like, but not really a big deal. Overall a very nice compact radio that can be used without relying on an outside power source.

Apple iPod nano 16 GB Blue (6th Generation) OLD MODEL

Apple iPod nano 16 GB Blue OLD MODEL
  • 16 GB capacity for about 4,000 songs
  • Up to 24 hours of audio playback on a single charge
  • 1.54-inch (diagonal) color TFT display with 240-by-240-pixel resolution (220 pixels per inch)
  • Support for AAC, Protected AAC (iTunes Store), MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV audio formats
  • One-year limited warranty

The iPod Nano update on September 1, 2010 is arguably the most dramatic since the iPod Nano moniker was introduced by Apple five years ago.

Several colors are being offered in both 8 GB & 16 GB capacities.

More than an update, this is a new product that simply retains the iPod Nano name. It gains a significant feature, but loses several others.

The big deal is the touch interface on the newest iPod Nano. iPod Nano users will now be "touching," their music as iPod Touch and iPhone users have before them. The click wheel is gone. To find your music, you select a category from the Nano's menu such as "Playlists," or "Artists," and select from there. Less convenient or more convenient than a click wheel? Honestly, about equal. The screen is indeed small, but not unusable.

FM Radio has been retained as well as the Fitness aspects with the ability to use Nike + or simply the built in pedometer. However, the form factor will be a major benefit for those working out with the Nano. The previous Nano required an armband to keep it on you while working out, jogging, or the like. Not always comfortable, an additional expense, etc. However, with this new small, square form factor that need is gone. Now, we can simply "clip," the Nano onto us, with the built in clip, and run to our listening content. A bigger deal than you might think.

The downside? Features have been removed from Nano. The screen is much smaller than the previous generation. Therefore, playback of video content from iTunes is gone. Nano no longer plays video, which was a feature added three years ago. Secondly, last year, Nano added a small video camera to record low quality video, which could be played back on the Nano's screen or synced with iTunes and viewed on your computer. That feature is gone too. The device is too small now for a camera or to watch video. This new generation iPod Nano has many exciting new features, but buyers must be aware that it is no longer a video player. It is something new. Those wishing to play video on an iPod must choose an iPod Touch.

My opinion on this change? Honestly, did I ever watch video on the iPod Nano's screen? No. For me, while they kept trying to make the screen larger, it was simply too small to enjoy more than a once a year video. Likewise, the camera was simply not high enough quality to keep yourself entertained by using on a regular basis. It became a feature unused by many.

The iPod Nano has changed and gone back to being an exceptional music player. There is nothing here you do not need to enjoy music. However, the display and touch interface brings the 21st century "touch," that Apple has made so popular to a more affordable device. The touch function will be limited here to simply selecting songs or bringing up the clock, but nevertheless, touch has made its way to the Nano.

I'm most thankful that the Nano has indeed retained the DOCK CONNECTOR. The dock connector is key to use with iPod accessories such as docks, speaker docks, and built in car iPod connectors. The nano is so diminutive that if you plug it into the factory iPod kit of an automobile, the cable's dock connector will look nearly bigger than the Nano itself. Not a negative, just amusing. Nevertheless, the dock connector is there, and you will be able to use the device in such applications, and that was a significant decision by Apple. Users want and need the dock connector. It is there on this iPod Nano, but still missing from the Shuffle due to its even more diminutive size.

This 16 GB version is the largest size Apple offers in the Nano. It offers no additional functionality over the 8GB, but features twice the storage. Choose the one best for you. 16 GB is great if you have a large music collection. We should all remember though that with Nano no longer doing Video or Storing Pictures, the storage is exclusively for music. This makes 8 GB and 16 GB more appropriate size offerings as music takes up much less storage than video.

Overall, Apple has removed video (both playback and recording) from this iPod Nano. However, it's an equalling good music player. Navigation of music is now completed via touch, which works effectively despite the small screen. It's really hard to believe so much can fit into such a small device and I believe everyone will be a bit shocked when they open up the Nano the first time and see it's size yet primary function as an effective music player retained. The newest Nano brings a nearly Shuffle like size, but yet retains the functionality (touch, clip, dock connector) that serious music lovers and those who use the Nano while working out, demand.

Buy Apple iPod nano 16 GB Blue (6th Generation) OLD MODEL Now

I mainly got this to replace the 2nd generation 4GB nano that I leave connected to my car stereo because the 4GB is completely full. Unfortunately for me, the charging scheme has changed since that generation so my car interface doesn't completely work the same way as it did for the 2nd generation nano. I have to open the glove compartment where it lives and press the wake button if the car has been off for a while, but more annoying than that is the fact that my car interface won't charge this while it's in the car. Since my primary use is to keep in my car, I decided to give it to a friend and just keep my list of available songs in the car to 4GB.

I did, however, use it a few times at work when I was spending all day doing some repetitive tasks that didn't require a lot of brainpower, and I noticed that the battery would be nearly completely discharged after the end of 8 hours. My 2nd generation nano had significantly longer battery life than that. (Of course, it also didn't have a fancy touchscreen and was twice as big.)

I bought this knowing it was significantly worse than the older model (no video recording, no video playing, smaller screen, annoying touch screen, etc...) what I didn't realize was how low quality the manufacturing on these is. Immediately upon receiving the headphone jack didn't work correctly and the headphones would have to be moved around in order for both ears to receive signal. Then within a week the ipod started to cut out unexpectedly and repeatedly. All this on top of the fact that you can't lock the screen so it will randomly change on you in the middle of songs when things brush it. Really a complete waste, I loved my old ipod nano (5th generation) this is useless and I'm returning it.

Returned after less than 12 hours using it. Device kept stopping after 30 seconds of each song, could not find a setting to correct this. Additionally, with the Apple provided headphones attached to the device, I attempted to use the radio and the device said I needed to attach headphones to use the radio? Really? With the headphones Apple provided I can't use the radio? Nice.

Apple really laid an egg with this product line.

I read lots of reviews here on Amazon before buying. Overall, I like it. The most critical reviews said this was a fancied up Shuffle, and I agree that's just what I've been wanting. I've had both 2G and 3G Nanos. As far as the loss of video no big deal. With the 3G, I put a movie on for the novelty, but as others here have noted, that screen is really too small to sit and watch a movie. So for me, the loss was really no loss. The gain (reduced size, but still being able to browse and select music) is totally what this Nano is all about.

What I like:

1. Size & weight: It's tiny! I take it jogging, or carry it in my pocket around the house, or anywhere. I love, love, love how small it is. The Shuffle was never any good for me, since I always like to see and select my music as I'm going.

2. Built-in clip. I usually carry it in my pocket, but the clip does come in handy once in a while. Hey, it's cool.

3. Volume buttons. Along the top, easily accessible. Nice.

4. 16GB. Yay! I have a ton of audiobooks, plus an insanely huge music collection, so the more space, the better.

5. Radio. That was a surprise to me. I wouldn't have thought of having a radio in my iPod, and I don't know how much I'll use it, but hey, it's a nice idea.

What I don't like:

1. Loss of how I used to browse for music. On the click-wheel iPods, there is a tiered or tree-type menu for browsing through the music on it. I have a "gi-normous" music collection, so being able to narrow things down by genre, then artist, then album was a great way for me to navigate through my collection. I only use playlists once in a great while. For the most part, I listen to albums, and the new Nano's "album" view shows all of them at once not handy at all, when looking for one album out of 16 GB worth of them. This isn't a deal-breaker, but it is a pain in the back-side.

2. Okay, this is may seem really silly, but the wallpaper selection is extremely limited. I can put my own photos on this (which I love), but I can't set any of those as the background/wallpaper. I really don't get that. If I can put my own photos on, why on earth can't I select one as the background? Instead, there is a very small selection of backgrounds to pick from, all of which are pretty generic and boring. I was really hoping to be able to jazz up the screen a little. What the heck? Would it really consume very much computing power to be able to do that? I'm hoping for an OS update that will allow for personalized backgrounds. Still waiting... I may end up waiting a long time. Oh well.

3. Loss of quick pause by feel when it's in my pocket. I purchased a separate accessory to do this (an in-line remote), but I'd rather have it on the unit next to the volume buttons, maybe? IMO, quickly pausing by feel is 100% necessary, so maybe on the next generation there will be a play/pause button next to the volume buttons? Please? Hey, I can dream.

Overall, I give this a solid 4 stars. It could be better, but I've been wishing for a shuffle-sized iPod with a screen, and here it is!

Just received this today in the mail. Bought it to replace an old CD player my daughter had in her room. This has yet to play one song on one CD without skipping. VERY FRUSTRATING!!! Paid a lot for this CD player and really disheartening when first open out of the box and it doesn't even play an entire song.

Bought this for my step daughter to play music in her room. For a kid CD/Radio, it actually has very good sound. It looks great and is easy to use. I highly recommend it.
