This radio works great for what I bought it for which was to charge my iphone while working to some tunes. For charging, it works great. If you like cranking it up, this isnt the radio for you. I dont usually listen to my music too loud on my jobsites, so this isnt a big problem for me, but it is worth mentioning. a large 18volt battery lasts about a day which for me is fine to keep my phone charged all day. I'm taking the star simply due to the lackluster speakers.

Pros:

Nice small footprint

Nice design

Good radio reception

Works on batteries

Cons:

Cannot use it with protective case on Ipod touch (unless you don't use the attachment and risk damaging unit and ipod)

When alarm turns on to radio you only see radio station and not time

LCD is a bit too bright to have it facing your bed at night

Although good for its small size, the audio is a bit weak.

This product was great! It was exactly what I needed (something to wake me up to my music and to play my iPod without draining the battery). Less than two years after I bought it, the snooze button quit working. I can push it all morning, but it never snoozes. So if you are looking for something to just listen/wake up to without a choice to snooze, I would purchase this dock.

I recently received this item from Amazon , service was exceptional as always ......... product was not !

Sound quality is pathetic . I didn't expect concert hall performance , but thought it should sound better than the transistor radios I had as a kid .

Very disappointed in this i pod dock. I bought this for my daughter and after a couple weeks it just stopped working. Luckily we were still within the 30 days for a return and Amazon was wonderful and we had a new one the next day. Hopefully it was a fluke and the new one will continue to work fine.

  • Wake to the radio, your alarm or your iPhone or iPod
  • Features traditional snooze and sleep functions
  • Wide-spaced speakers for crisp and clear audio
  • Simple and functional floating design matches well with any home or office décor

DO NOT BUY. This is the worst alarm clock that I have ever owned. It worked with my Iphone for about a month. After that, it wouldn't connect to my Iphone and caused it to not work on any docking station.

Also, the volume for the alarm will not go lower than a level of 10. 10 is blaring! I do not need to be startled awake, very annoying.

Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this piece of junk.

This is an OK product, a bit complicated to learn to set but my real complaint is the "Gradual Wake Up" feature. No matter how softly you set it, it will start low and blast you out of bed on radio or iPod setting. No more lying there and listening to music or news for a couple of minutes in the morning. As such, I have ditched the clock radio aspect and now only have an alarm clock. If you need to be loudly rousted from sleep, this one's for you. Heck, you can have mine, I'm sorry I got it.

I was quite surprised with the quality of this product. I was looking for a portable TV but had difficulty with finding one with regular replaceable batteries. This one takes 8 size C batteries so I get long battery use. The picture quality is excellent with the antenna it comes with and the Ipod feature is terrific. If you have a long term power outage, this is a great buy!

When the all-digital TV came to town I had to give up my under-counter kitchen SONY radio with AM as well as FM signal and TV signal. Thought this Chinon would be an improvement because of the iPod dock. How wrong I was. The sound is inferior in all applications. The radio signals are fussy. The TV sound (which is all I care about) is equally mediocre. The picture is distorted but maybe you can adjust it for widescreen mode -I didn't try. Anyhow, this is another crummy made-in-China piece of electronic junk.

The TV is almost useless since you can't even hook up a portable dvd player either. With the hook ups in the back I thought this would be the perfect item for a weekend away scrapbooking, but the ipod and radio was all I could have so the TV was useless since I couldn't play my dvds and the antenna didn't so anything for me. My 2 cents.

Sony CFDS05 CD Radio Cassette Recorder Boombox

Sony CFDS05 CD Radio Cassette Recorder Boombox
  • Cassette/Radio/CD Features: Cassette Player, CD Player, Digital Volume Control, Built-In Speakers, AM/FM Radio, Digital Display
  • Electronic Functions: CD Player, Built-in Speakers, Digital Tuner, AM/FM Radio, Cassette Player, Cassette Recorder
  • CD, DVD, Cassette Compatibility: CD, CD-R/RW
  • Includes: Power Cord.
  • Dimensions: Length: 9.38 "; Width: 14.25 "; Depth: 5.38 "

Yes, it's a corny title, I know; what's not corny is this sweet little boombox from Sony. It was little difficult to find a unit like this with all of the features I was in the market for, since boomboxes seem to be on the way out -at least in their old configurations.

Pretty much gone are days of tape, but I guess that there are some folks out there who still like cassettes; these are the people who will be happy with the CFDS05's built-in tape deck I will probably never use it. The other features, such as digital AM/FM tuner with numerous presets, CD-R/RW capable compact-disc player, and AUX-in jack for portable music players, are just what I was looking for!

+ The sound, while not audiophile quality, is pleasantly full and crisp; the longstanding Sony Mega Bass feature helps the lower end a little, but don't expect miracles. All in all, it's a very nice sound from a not-too-huge footprint.

+ The digital tuner works well, picking up the new somewhat-hard-to-lock-onto local public music radio station with no difficulties at all. The presets take a little practice -I actually had to break down and look at the instructions.

+ The CD player seems to have no problems reading my CD-R discs (I always play copies, never original discs); my previous RCA stereo clock radio would conk out in the middle of a CD-R playback.

+ The aux-in feature also works very well with my MP3 player, though it's necessary to crank the volume up a bit in relation to the radio or CD player don't forget to turn it back down before switching sources!

About the only minus I can come up with, and it's a minor one, is a lack of some "snazzy" features; there's no remote, no "sleep" feature, and the CD doesn't play back mp3 discs. I'm sure Sony could have included some of these features, but likely not at this price point.

The CFDS05's construction is pretty solid, though perhaps not quite as heavy-duty as the three other Sony boomboxes we own (that are all 3-6 years old, and we haven't had a lick of trouble from any of them). I am hopeful this one will be just as reliable as its predecessors.

Overall, I would say that if you're in the market for what I think is becoming a scarce product offering, pick one of these up while you can! I am very pleased that I found yet another quality Sony boombox to meet my listening needs I've tried many, many others, and I always end up coming back to Sony.

Buy Sony CFDS05 CD Radio Cassette Recorder Boombox Now

PROS:

1. buttons (except cassette) are located right on the front in one place, and are clearly labeled and easy to use

2. sound can be turned up WAY WAY louder than I would probably use it with no distortion

3. CD player features these modes: program, shuffle, repeat disc, repeat track

4. plays both cd-R AND cd-RW (copies you made and professionally made ones)

5. very light weight

6. big handle for carrying

7. audio line in for iPod or other device is located right on the front

8. headphone jack

9. GOOD RELIABLE BRAND

10. cassette recorder and DIGITAL radio too, with memory presets for radio

CONS:

1. SHORT power cord (about 5 feet long at the most) which cannot be replaced with my generic longer ones because of the shape of the opening for it

2. so-called "BASS BOOST" makes so little difference that you can't tell it's on except by looking at the display!!!! NEEDS EQUALIZER!!!

3. can't see through cassette door so have to open it to see how much tape you have left to play

4. doesn't play MP3 discs, but I don't have those anyway

5. NO REMOTE CONTROL when Sony's website says it has one

It does what I need it to do. The sound is not that great compared to my computer's or car stereo's sound, but it's ok for the size of the unit, and sounds way way way better than the cd clock radio that I WAS using as my cd player! I haven't used the radio or cassette yet and likely won't. I just got it to put by my bed, for playing my iPod through the audio in jack and playing cd's. For me, the cassette deck is just a bonus and nice to have if I need it sometime, since I already threw away or gave away most of my cassettes.

I purchased one of these for my 10x6 kitchenette. It's great for listening to the news, or popping in a cd/cassette, or even feeding in my mp3 player. Don't expect super high quality sound from speakers this size (in general). The speakers are brignt with lots of treble, which sounds better listening to classical or jazz music because the strings/horns are very clear. Plus older recordings from the 1950's/60's/70's (such as the classic jazz of the Miles Davis Quintet) were made with small transistor radios in mind. The Mega-Bass feature mainly helps you shore up the low end when you have headphones on, but can't overcome the small, low-wattage speaker system.

This unit is full of great features, with perfect dimensions for a kitchen counter-top, office desktop, workbench or dresser. The sound is appropriate for a small room-but sounds better with headphones on. The audio-in feature means that this unit can be used with any number of mp3 players, rather than just the Apple iPod. Many audio books at the library are still (and always will be) on cassette, so having the cassette option is nice. I'm buying a 2nd unit for my 8-year-old daughter who has a small bedroom, a limited budget and reasonable sound expectations.

Initially I ordered another CD Player that was somewhat smaller and lighter than the Sony. Unfortunately, that player was defective (not created during shipping) as it was unable to play the last track of any CD! Also, the other unit had volume issues. I returned that initial purchase and went with the Sony.....great choice too.

The Sony, while a bit larger and heavier, is still pretty compact. Best of all the sound quality (at least to my ear) is that of a much more expensive player! Really sounds top notch.

Finally, there is the various kind of media it can play from.

I have a vast collection of CDs, but my sons are always trying to interest me in using MP3 technology, and with my new Sony, I may just branch-out and explore these "new music frontiers".

Great buy!

I bought this because I didn't have good all-around (radio and CD) sound source while working in the garden. I was surprised to find I could set it inside my patio door and clearly hear music and commentary about 50 feet away at three quarters volume. The sound does not suffer much when you crank it up all the way. The sound is strong on battery power too.

My wife is already planning to use it inside the house and on trips when she exercises, to provide audible, good quality workout music.

The front controls are logical and easy to use, and look like they would hold up to outdoor/casual use. This boombox is a very handy size and weight, considering the features and good sound. The antenna is effective, sturdy, and tucks away under the flush handle for some protection. (The handle does have a squared off edge, and might not be comfortable for carrying for miles.) A very well thought out design overall.

I chose the Sony brand because other manufacturer's boomboxes and undercabinet systems we tried earlier had poor reception or reliability. One of those even ruined any disk you put in it. No problems with our Sony kitchen unit, and we are hoping for the same with this boombox.

I shop by price, and paid $50, about $20 more than some other brands. Those had poor reviews for sound or reliability, or lacked features like audio input. Mostly, I was put off by the bulky designs and strange protruberances. I would have liked this Sony better if it came in a more attractive color than matte gray for the case (the front is more attractive, but still basic). It's already showing fingerprints on top (the cassette and CD compartment covers). I also don't care for the markings on the cassette buttons, which are mono-color stampings, nearly impossible to see in dim light. My final gripe is the lack of storage for the power cord, which must be removed to run on battery power. I found a small drawstring mesh bag around the house, and looped the cord over the boombox handle. Otherwise someone in this household would lose that cord in a heartbeat. It would have been nice if the audio-in cable was supplied, instead of just a jack, but I suppose they had to economize somewhere.

I'm hoping for many years of clear music and radio entertainment from this player.

I bought this stereo tower because I have a small studio apartment and thought it would work great with the space that I have to use. I love it! It sounds great, and my neighbors say it has plenty of bass. It looks good and fits right in the corner that I had planned for it. Really it is very easy to use and set up. I love the remote. I can adjust everything I need to from the kitchen while I'm cooking. I mostly use it for my iPhone and iPod, but I have also started using it for the sound while I watch movies on my computer. All in all, I am very happy with it and recommend it to everyone. Thank you PYLE for a great speaker system at a wonderful price!

Really like the ipad dock, and the ability to control the whole system with the remote control. Has an incredible sound, especially the 8" sub, has a lot of bass response for a speaker this size. This entertainment station is a sweet deal all around, I would recommend it.

I just got this Pyle Home PHST96IPCW out of the box and got it set up and it sounds great. After reading some of the negative reviews I was a bit hesitant to spend $200 for something without first hearing and seeing it but I am very pleasantly surprised by the big sound from this unit. I read some reviews about there not being enough bass but it is only an 8" sub. It doesn't thump but that's not what I wanted in the first place. The instructions are a bit vague but all you have to do is get a 14 year old and they can figure it all out if you can't ha-ha. Over all it is a great sound system for an iPad/iPhone and way better than the little shelf units that often are in the same price range. I elevated mine and set it on a table and it sounds truly amazing!

Like other reviewers I loved this product until it just stopped working. After it quit I set it aside and ignored it for a couple weeks before deciding to try and get some support from iHome on the product. I looked for a serial number on the bottom and failed to find more than a six character alpha-numeric by the battery door for the backup batteries. The odd thing is that I opened the battery door, removed and then replaced the batteries...only to find the time readout came back on! I then plugged the device in and it worked! Woohoo!

A few hours later it had died again. Hmm...maybe it's tripping some kind of internal fuse? Either way, this is obviously a defective product that is still being sold by iHome. Unfortunate as it has a lot of great features. NOT recommended.

UPDATE: I contacted iHome on their web site and received a quick return email asking for my address. They state I will receive a UPS return label and a replacement product after I return the defective one. I'll update again when this process is complete.

FINAL UPDATE: iHome sent the UPS return label to my email account. I printed the email with the label, packed the defective unit in a box and attached the label. I then dropped it off at a UPS drop off location (Staples). About a week or so later I received a new iHome replacement for the unit that stopped working at no cost to me. The new unit works beautifully and came in new retail packaging with all accessories. Although the product certainly should have lasted longer than it did, iHome was very easy to deal with and provided a no hassle replacement for their defective product. I'm re-rating this item 4-Stars and will continue to purchase iHome products with the added confidence of quality support for their products. To iHome: BRAVO!

I liked this product while it was working, but in my opinion, any product that quits on you after only 6 months does not deserve even a mildly favorable review. To make matters worse, iHome's customer service has been completely unresponsive to my inquiries regarding product warranty.

This was not a cheap item, and I am thoroughly disappointed. Save your money.

My mom got this for me and for Christmas. I loved this thing! The sound was great, the features were great (seven different brightness settings for the clock how cool is that?), you can reset the clock to the exact time on your cell phone, there's a remote control, etc. But then one day I realized it was turned off even though it's plugged in. I can't get it to turn on anymore :(

Therefore, i'm in the middle on the number of stars. If I had written this review before it broke i easily would have given it 5 stars. My sister and her husband got one for Christmas as well and theirs is still going strong.

Replaced the stock radio in my Ford Ranger because the volume would randomly turn up and down every time I would go over a speed bump or make a sharp turn (lol). Caught my eye at best buy because it matches the lighting scheme in my car and looks really sleek to begin with. Then I realized that it was under $100! I only hesitated for a split second, and now I don't regret buying it at all!

I had to buy the accessory kit and wiring harness separately (you will absolutely need these for any almost all stock radio replacements) to get the proper fit. Decided to install it myself just for the heck of it, was rather easy, just followed the instructions using both the kit's and pioneer's instruction booklets (although pioneer manuals are somewhat vague sometimes), and used a little soldering skill to wire maybe about 4 wires together (most wires weren't even used) and ground a few to my car's inside chassis.

Turned it on to the tuner; sounds great, even cleared some static I had before, no complaints at all. My ipod sound great through the AUX input, CDs sound clear and excellent as well. I can really hear a difference in the sound; bass is much tighter, mids are mellow and relaxed, highs are crisp and detailed. It sounds quite high end; I don't know why people spend so much money on head units when these cheaper ones sound just as good?! Nice solid feel to the unit too, although the control scheme (or software) could have been programmed a bit better, there aren't really too many buttons on there to really make a difference. For instance, the manual is wrong when it says how to set the clock, you have to power-off all other functions and leave it in clock mode, then turn off by pressing the clock button, then to set the clock, you have to turn it on again using the main middle button and you finally get the display blinking to change the clock's time.

Amps and other channels (up to four) are compatible with this unit, plus a remote is included (but only for use with the amp). All in all, I got exactly the results I was looking for. Quite a bargain to a decent leap in sound! I wholly recommend this unit, especially one this cheap!

Buy Pioneer DEH-2000MP In-Dash CD/MP3/WMA/WAV Receiver Now

Really excellent upgrade for those needing/wanting an MP3 input. I replaced an older Pioneer model, and as such, the installation was a breeze, as everything fit perfectly, and it was just a matter of slipping the old unit out, attaching the connections, and slipping the new one in. It has a nice little screw for securing the faceplate if you don't care about detaching it (I figure if someone is going to steal it, they are going to steal it, and I frequently detached my old one by accident...), and the MP3 input is great. There are even special EQ settings for maximizing the sound quality with MP3/WMA files which work beautifully.

The CD player also reads MP3/WMA, and even displays song titles (albeit only the first few characters), and the tuner is clear, crisp, and accurate.

For what I paid ($80) it was a flat-out steal!

I am not too fan in getting fancy car radios with DVD players, screens and stuff. For me, a simple radio is more than enough.

Specially this one, has everything I need. Has a WMA/MP3 CD player and an AUX-IN so you can plug your own mp3 player. FYI, the AUX-IN port uses a 1/8 jack, so you can plug any MP3 player with a standard headphone jack, just get a 3.5mm stereo cable and you are good to go!

Very user-friendly configuration for its settings also. You dont have to struggle to get your EQ the way you want, as well as clock for example.

I strongly recommend this Car Stereo!

Just bought this unit, and so far I'm impressed with both the sound and the functionality for such a low price. I dock it one star for two reasons: 1. the ergonomics could be better--the buttons are very tiny and the main control buttons are too few for a quick intuitive grasp of their function, and 2. the manual is completely in error about how to set the clock, a basic mistake that does not inspire confidence in the product! A previous commenter outlined the process, but I found the explanation unclear. Here's a link to the Pioneer answer, which is very clear but buried underneath a pile of support pages.

I purchased this radio for my desk at work. I wanted a digital tuner so I could easily get the station I wanted. This radio is such a joke. The tuner will just change on its own, just a few decimals but making the station unclear all on its own. There are many times when I try to change it back and the tuner won't work at all. It only stays in the 80s and I have to turn it off and on several times to get the tuner working again. Its very hard to get the radio station to come in clear and I sit next to a window and am trying to listen to one of the main stations in the city. A radio just shouldn't be this difficult. Tune to the station and you should be done, unfortunately not with this one. I plan to just put up with it, I don't want to spend the funds on another one, but its a daily frustration.

i bought this just to play my 3 month olds pure white noise hair dryer cd.. the volume oes way down low whwn it is on high and skip.. ive only had it 2 weeks i want a refund!!

We bought this CD player for my mother-in-law for Christmas and she absolutely loves it!! She is not very good with electronics, (even has trouble with the DVD player) but she has figured this out without a problem. I know most of you are saying what is there to figure out, but when you have a family member who needs help with just about everything electronic it is sure nice to find an item they can do on their own. She has been listening to her collection of cds since Christmas morning and the smile still has not faded from her face!! We are very happy and so is she!

SkyScan Atomic Clock with Temperature Sensor (88905)

SkyScan Atomic Clock with Temperature Sensor
  • Atomic clock never needs setting
  • Wireless indoor/outdoor temperature sensor with 200 ft. range
  • Humidity sensor
  • Phases of the moon

The instructions with the clock weren't so straight forward and it took about an hour to set up and find a signal, but its been working like a dream ever since. I chose this clock because it has humidity, temperature, AND outdoor temperature readings. Im not sure what is up with the moon phase part, it doesn't seem to work properly, but I don't really care, if i need to know what phase the moon is in i can look outside. My only criticism is it is rather plain looking, but if you just want something that functions, you can't go wrong.

I have been very pleased with the products from Skyscan. This is actually my third clock I still have my first one it is twelve years old and works fine. I purchased this one because it has the outdoor temperature sensor. I find that the outdoor sensor works rather well. Why people have trouble using these clocks is beyond me you just set it up and let it catch the signal. I like the fact it is just a clock I do not want it to be decorative. The first one I got will last five years on the batteries. You put the batteries in and do not have to touch it for five years it keeps the time and works great. These clocks have been absolutely some of the best things for the money I have ever purchased.

Great Clock and Love being able to read the temperature indoor/outdoor and it is accurate !

Not really sure why some people had problems with this clock ? I have had mine for 5 years now and have only replaced the batteries one time !

I LOVE knowing the outdoor temp ! Last night it was -18 degrees at my house here in Idaho and I didn't have any problems with the transmitter ! The people that have had problems with the outdoor temperature reading could have bought a new transmitter off of SkyScans website for $13.00 instead of buying a whole new clock and would have seen that if they would have gone to SkyScan's website for troubleshooting suggestions ! So I wonder if they even read the instruction manual and if it was really a faulty clock or a faulty customer/clock user ?

I know of at least 6 friends and or family members that have not had any problems with this little clock !

For the money, I feel it's a neat clock ! I highly recommend this clock !

I was very excited to get it. It reads the outdoor temperature reliably. But It doesn't have a second time. It is in the kitchen and I often looked at my old one to "add a minute" when cooking. They don't seem to make them with second "hands" anymore

I ordered this clock because the Amazon listing shows a clock with a second function. However, this model does not actually have a second function. The image in the Amazon listing must be a different model. And I could not get the temperature sensor to work, even after carefully following the instructions in the owners manual (face it towards Colorado, wait overnight, etc.) I do not recommend this clock.
