Although it doesn't say it in the listing or the radio / alarm clock's manual you cannot charge a newer version of the iphone or ipod. Apparently they use 5 volt usb charging power and this radio is set up for the old ipod's 12v firewire connection charging. You can buy a Firewire charge converter which will cost you more money and render the docking ability useless, due to the connection being too long to just be supported by the connector. This radio equal a waste of money for me.

Purchased for my daughter to use with an older ipod touch, it does not charge and we are having some problems getting the alarm feature to work. However, if you have a newer ipod I'm sure this product would work great.
